BETTER BUT NOT CURED

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  04/16/2009: Elaine from Columbia, South Carolina writes: "I had my first episode of heartburn and chest pain about 5 days ago. My stomach has not been the same. I feel bloated immediately after I eat and the last two days I have had some dyrhea. Eating apples and taking two teaspoons of acv stopped my heart burn and chest pain but why do I still feel bloated after I eat and why is my urine very yellow?"

Replies
04/16/2009: Katherine from New York, NY replies: "I have the same symptoms when I eat more than 1 piece of bread - severe heartburn and bloating. Are you tender anywhere in your stomach? If so, it might be an obstruction in your colon caused by food. You can lay on your stomach and dig your fist into your stomach to help move the food along the colon. Licorice DGL has helped with the pain whenever I have this issue as does drinking distilled water."
04/17/2009: Lynn G from Columbia, Maryland, USA replies: "To Katherine from New York. Have you considered eliminating ALL gluten-containing foods (wheat, oatmeal, barley are the worst offenders) from your diet for at least six weeks as an experiment to see whether your condition improves? You can have gluten sensitivity that is "subclinical" in nature, that is, not full-blown celiac disease, which is an extremely debilitating condition that can cause substantial damage to your gastrointestinal tract. I found out that I have this sensitivity when I eliminated gluten from my diet about 20 months ago. I no longer have GERD (acid reflux) for which I took proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) drugs for about 8 years.

To Elaine from Columbia, SC. Since your gastrointestinal upset is very recent (and sudden), you should investigate whether you have suffered some form of food poisoning or other insult to your diet. If your bloating symptoms don't resolve in two more weeks, you could consult a naturopathic doctor (ND) or another type of alternative medicine doctor who is well versed in issues of diet and knowledgeable about nutritional supplementation. Regarding urine color, be sure to drink enough water for your daily needs, but don't overdo it. Never drink a lot of fluid during or right after a meal--that dilutes your stomach acid and digestive enzymes too much, and you need these at peak concentration in order to digest your food properly."

CORAL CALCIUM

YEA

[YEA]  03/19/2009: Eva from Kitchener, Canada writes: "I have this question. Coral calcium works like a magic to relieve my heartburn. Sometimes I have to take quater of teaspoon diluted with some water 3 - 4x daily. Is this O.K.? Thank you very much, Eva"

Replies
03/23/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Some people have intolerance of calcium by just 1/4 of a teaspoon one single dose. Some people who take even a small amounts coral calcium it made their conditions worse, although initially it did give them relief.

Apparently too much calcium causes some clumping of blood cells as calcium is one of the minerals, in excess helps the blood clots that may lead to some circulation problems of the heart, especially if the person has weakness. Most heartburn remedies I used tend to avoid this such as 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/4 teaspoon of potassium citrate, in 1/2 glass (if a person can't drink too much water) to 1 glass of water. That's taken twice a day. Sometimes a sharp pain can be possible whenever a blood clots and caused heart problems from consuming coral calcium, as in a sharp pains to the left upper arm, which is one sign of heart attack or possibility of a circulatory problems.

A magnesium on occasion also helps. In general, calcium alkalizes the blood, but it's often too slow for many people as calcium carbonate are converted to calcium bicarbonate, too slow and has poor bioavailability. Minerals if that's to be desired in a coral calcium, I believe I can get better minerals source from a dead sea salt, or and sea salt that's unprocessed. A deep sea salt, which has a better mineral comes from sea salt told to fish aquarium are also better as they have clearly labeled minerals in back of their packages. It takes about a week to get the heartburn to be reduced significantly, but I believe it's a fungal like organism and tends to worsen with more calcium. It's possible to actually extract most of the salt from a sea salt by adding some sodium carbonate to the sea salt solution of 20% by adding 1 tablespoon per 500 cc of 20% sea salt solution and precipitates the minerals to the bottom, for example, by waiting for a couple of hours, then decant the liquids, and wash this by not removing the precipitate about 4 times, and then take them directly. A simpler way is one cup of sea salt and added 4 cups of water, then add sodium carbonate until the pH becomes 9 or 10, or until no more additional precipitate forms. What you have here is calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate, plus a minerals in the precipitate. If a carbonated water or soda water is added after the resultant precipitate that's wash, what you get is calcium bicarbonate and magnesium bicarbonate, plus many minerals also. This is an alternative form of coral calcium without too much calcium as sea salt have a tendency to have more magnesium than a coral calcium. In any event, a magensium chloride or magnesium citrate might be more convenient of sea salt method of extraction is inconvenient. Or I can prepare a water with added sodium thiosulfate to dechlorinate the water, and then add a small pinch of fulvic acid, or in a one liter of water (dechlorinate) i might add 1/8 teaspoon of fulvic acid and then may consume 1/4 or 1/2 glass, one dose to get some minerals also. Certain minerals, as in chromium, vanadium, molybdenum for example is helpful in reducing the blood sugar and generally starve the fungal like organisms that causes heartburn as they are generally resistant to acid, and hence a mineral from sea salt or just sea salt plus some baking soda and potassium and some magnesium is a preferred method of ridding of heartburn. I don't get heartburn since I am practically been alkalizing all my life, most from baking soda, but I have modified the alkalizing remedies of the years.

I therefore have reservations of coral calcium, especially for certain people with other conditions such as lupus, allergy, morgellon's often make the conditions worse with the coral calcium. A sea salt such as 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt dissolved in one liter of drinking water plus baking soda and potassium mentioned, twice a day is a preferred method and it helps to take some magnesium supplements as in 500 mg a day. If weakness is indicated from a heartburn, then a B complex if often taken to restore that. On the otherhand if a sharp pain from the condition then I might take baking soda with aspirin, where baking soda I have added is used to buffer the acidity of the aspirin to prevent blood clotting, but that's only if I have a sharp pain.

Therefore, the use of coral calcium is an individual decision and I can't say what is best but this is simply my experience from their use. I am sure everyone has different experience.

Ted"

GENERAL FEEDBACK

11/27/2010: Mikeyb33 from Concord, Ca writes: "I thought I was experiencing severe heartburn at 5am in the morning. It was unbearable and I could not sit, lie or stand still. The only thing that helped was to walk around outside, but that only lasted for a few moments. I decided to drive to the hospital ER with my wife. Once inside the ER admitting area, they asked me to sign a few forms, but before I could, I told the admissions person I was feeling lightheaded, and at that point passed out. I woke up in the ER room with several people attending me. It turns out that my heartburn was the prelude to a massive heart attack, where I had to be revived with CPR and the shock pads. They said I had left them for a few moments. Thank God I decided to go to the ER, something I was very reluctant to do. But now I know, that at the slightest signs of a heartburn, or any thing related to the heart, to call 911 immediately. I hope this helps many people who think they are experiencing what they feel is severe heartburn. Hopefully in everyone elses case it is only heartburn, and not the onset of a heart attack. I feel very blessed to be alive to be able to relay this message. Eat Healthy. Live Healthy. Stay Healthy."

07/21/2009: Fran from Philadelphia, PA writes: "I have recently been diagnosed with acid indigestion and am waiting for an endoscopy end of week. In the meantime, I'm on an OTC heartburn med and antacids. Until it kicked in a couple of days ago, I felt nausea, upset stomach and fullness after every meal. If I didn't eat, I felt OK. Then spent 2 days eating nothing but rice, rice toast, rice cereal, rice milk and poached chicken. That's about all my stomach could handle. Since the meds, I've been able to eat more good foods but I don't want to stay on the meds after reading all of the negative side effects. Am interested in ACV and aloe vera gell. There are many varying amounts suggested to use of both items but I haven't noticed a suggested timeline as to when to take these things. I'm determined not to have to take drugs for this problem. Thanks."

However, I see ACV works for a number of things mainly heartburn. I just thought that I should also comment on how Lemon juice is great for AR/Heartburn. I heard about this as an old folk storie from my Grandmother.

What you do is take a small glass, and just fill the bottom of the glass with Lemon Juice, then dilute it with about a half or a quarter full with water. Then gulp it down in one go. It works like a charm for me, and I must admit I have tried almost every other remedy out there, most of which only gave temporary relief."

After having heartburn for three days i tried lime tea, that is the skin of one lime, peeled off and brewed in hot water, drinking that with a little sugar or without throughout the day, at least three times has helped to relieve and even rid me of my heartburn. Also i found that i was not making enough bowel movements, this i believe can increase heartburn, because the stomach is not emptying fast enough so gases and acids are released upwards. So a good colon cleanse as also been of great help."

LOW CARB DIET

[YEA]  01/10/2009: Anthony from Weirton, WV, USA writes: "Heartburn cure: A low carb diet completely cured my heartburn/acid reflux. I tried everything from ezymes to raw apple cider vinegar and nothing worked. I quit coffee (which I love), but it still remained. When I went on a low carb diet, the heartburn went away. It took about a week to totally cured.

By low carb I mean 30-40g of carbs per day. I'm surprised no one else has mentioned this. If you feel you have tried everything to cure heartburn, this may be just what you needed."

02/07/2012: Cassady from Norman, Ok replies: "100% of my heartburn is due to gluten intolerance. I can eat whatever I like, as long as it doesn't have any damn gluten in it. As soon as I eat gluten, I get awful heartburn. My point here being, perhaps a low carb diet helps some people with heartburn because they are generally eating less breads and pastas? Maybe try eliminating gluten from your diet if you've tried everything else.

I'm here because sometimes... You just have to have a slice of pizza!! I ate a pear, per someone's suggestion cause I already had that and not an apple. Heartburn has not disappeared completely but is DEF much better!! Thanks!"

[YEA]  07/30/2009: Miranda from Passau, Bavaria, Germany writes: "Despite eating a healthy diet and getting regular exercise, I suffered from really bad heartburn for over 10 years. At first I just used antacids the doctor prescribed, but I realised that was just covering up the symptoms. Then my heartburn got so bad that I suffered from it almost all the time, especially during the night. The doctor diagnosed reflux and for 3 years I took pills daily to prevent an attack. He even advised me to have an operation. One Friday I ran out of pills. That afternoon I got a really bad cramp in my leg that lasted about a quarter of an hour and was so painful I nearly passed out. In agony, I took two 80 gr. magnesium pills at once and four more spread out over the next 12 hours. Then I took 3 pills a day for the next 2 days, after that one pill a day. When the weekend passed I realised I hadn't had any heartburn all weekend, despite not having taken any heartburn pills. Now I take a magnesium supplement every day and haven't had any heartburn or reflux for two years. It was like a miracle and it certainly gave me a new lease of life."

[YEA]  04/11/2011: Dadhwalz from Ludhiana, India writes: "1) Sleep sitting up, or with the head, neck, and shoulders raised at least above the stomach. This will keep excess stomach acid from traveling upwards into your esophagus.

2) Eat smaller meals more frequently, as larger meals tend to create excess stomach acid, which then leads to heartburn.

3) Although not totally proven, avoiding certain foods like coffee, fruit juice, onions, chocolate, spicy foods, pretzels, tea, fatty foods, etc. can help reduce heartburn.

4. natural Aloe vera juice is another great approach that can help reduce the effects of acid inside the stomach.

5.Teas can be quite effective in assisting with digestive problems."

Replies
07/17/2011: Catherine from Wellington, New Zealand replies: "About heartburn.. It may be caused by hiatal hernia OR lack of HCL (low stomach acid)

HCL is needed to breakdown and digest foods, when it is lacking, digestion is incomplete and results in heartburn. When ACV works it indicates that HCL is needed and thats why ACV works for some heartburn and not others.

In hiatil hernia sleeping with head elevated keeps stomach acid from moving up the eosophagus, prime culprit in night time heartburn. Low carbohydrate diets work really well for heartburn and charcoal tablets can be effective in controlling belching."

07/17/2011: Elly from Topeka, Kansas replies: "Hi Catherine, so true! I was born with a hiatal hernia and sometimes get reflux. Strangely I sometimes get reflux on an empty stomach in the morning and after I drink filtered water. Apple cider vinegar with a little baking soda has always helped and for some hours. I was a little timid to try the HCL and wondered if maybe using ACV instead would be fine since they both seem to do about the same thing. I also took some digestive enzymes after meals but felt a tiny bit of reflux on continued use but I can't say for sure if they were to cause. ACV is a Godsend! Thanks!"
