"Gout (also called metabolic arthritis) is a disease created by a build up of uric acid. In this condition, monosodium urate or uric acid crystals are deposited on the articular cartilage of joints, tendons and surrounding tissues due to elevated concentrations of uric acid in the blood stream. This provokes an inflammatory reaction of these tissues.

Gout is characterized by excruciating, sudden, unexpected, burning pain, as well as swelling, redness, warmness, and stiffness in the affected joint. This occurs commonly in men in their toes but can appear in other parts of the body and affects women too. Low-grade fever may also be present. The patient usually suffers from two sources of pain. The crystals inside the joint cause intense pain whenever the affected area is moved. The inflammation of the tissues around the joint also causes the skin to be swollen, tender and sore if it is even slightly touched. For example, a blanket or even the lightest sheet draping over the affected area could cause extreme pain." (Wikipedia)

[YEA]  05/10/2009: Dave from Riverton, UT writes: "Thank you for this web site and for the posts. I had severe gout pain every day for 2 months, so I gave in and tried the medicines the doctor prescribed. They made me so sick I could not take them. I tried ACV (1 TSP ACV, 1 TSP Honey, 4-6 oz of hot water- makes a decent tasting hot tea) a couple times a day, cherry juice, and ibuprofen cream. The pain went away within 2 days. I know the ACV is working as I had never tried it before; I had been eating a lot of cherries and that helped for a while, but not enough when it got severe. I wanted to share the ibuprofen cream idea as I did not see it on this web site. My wife uses it on her jaw for TMJ, so I thought I'd try it. I just rub some into the joint before bed and/ or in the morning and it seems to reduce swelling and increase mobility and decrease pain. It's called homeopathic ibuprofen cream for muscles and joints and it works well."

ALFALFA TABLETS

[YEA]  05/13/2010: Ed from Irving Township, Minnesota writes: "I suffered with gout for 9 years. 12 years ago I began taking cranberry capsules. It helped, however, the gout would return, just not as often or severe. I researced more on the internet and learned that Alfalfa tablets cause the uric acid to be removed through the other end and I have not had a gout attack for 11 1/2 years. I drink, eat red meats, seafood, spinach, venison and other foods not recommended. I take cranberry, garlic, alfalfa, milk thistle a multivitamin once a day in the morning for maintenance. I have been able to resume use of my treadmill and I lost 50 lbs, and no more worries about walking, yard work or hunting. I have told many others about this system and every single person said it worked for them. Your doctor won't tell you, there is no profit in this for them. So much for the hippocratic oath."

05/13/2010: Pat from Athens, Al, Usa replies: "Gout is a strong runner in our family and for years an almost instant sure we all use is cherries. The kind you can buy packed in water in any grocery store. Make sure they are the water packed ones. Also dried cherries work but the canned ones seem to work better and faster. Usually one can is all it takes to cure an attack."

[YEA]  06/28/2010: Rosa from San Antonio, Texas replies: "ACV/"the Mother", Raw Organic Honey (ROH) and Alfalfa juice tablets relieved my 1st gout attack..Thank you!! I'm 54 yrs old. I had my 1st and (pretty sure) my last gout attack all within the past 4 days. I didn't realize the repercussions of leaving some form of gout untreated for years. My big left toe has ached on and off over the past 10 years, and wow this attack almost crippled me. I was in pain and hobbling. It took me a couple of hours to realize what was happening and I googled the internet for home remedies for gout...and I am extremely grateful I picked this website which posted exactly what I needed. Luckily, I had the ACV with "The Mother" and ROH, but didn't use your recipe until 2nd day: 1 tblspn of ACV & 1 tblspn of ROH in 4 ozs of hot water, stirred; I then added 4 oz of tepid water (I came back to reread your post because of the Alfalfa tablets). Like you said, it makes a great tea. I saw even greater relief using your recipe, while taking ibuprofen during the day and at night elevating my left foot with icepacks. The third day was when I started alfalfa juice tablets, stopped the ibuprofen. I was in the gym again within 36 hours on 3 different low impact machines for about 2 hours. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! (BTW, your post should be the 1st post on this page.)"

[YEA]  08/14/2010: Ricohoc from Udon Thani, Issan, Thailand writes: "First I want to thank all of those who have contributed such useful information for all of the rest of us. Reading it all and using it have been very valuable. I received my first gout attack about 16 years ago. I thought I had torn ligaments in my left ankle, but had no idea how. I was prescribed the usual allopurinol and indocine. After about 3 or 4 months, I quit the "allo" and just used the indocine for pain if I felt an attack coming on. It worked for years. Over the course of the past 16 years, I have only had 2 or 3 attacks that I would consider to be "not caught in time", and none of them prevented me from going to work. I have been fortunate. All of the attacks were either in my left big toe or left ankle. Then, two weeks ago, I woke from a great night's sleep to find my left arm swollen from the elbow to the middle of the forearm. I thought that I had contracted some kind of infection or had been bitten or stung during the night by some insect. It was neither. By Day 2, I had been online and realized that it was gout. I never knew it could/would attack the elbow. Again, this wasn't a severe attack. It did not keep me from doing what I had to do that day, but my left arm looked like Popeye's left arm. It was uncomfortable and so hot I could have fried an egg on it. Not pretty. I'm not inclined to return to the "allo", so I started looking online and found this site. I started the ACV quickly. Once in the morning and once in the evening after dinner and before sleep. I take two tablespoons of ACV with a tablespoon of honey in a glass of water. It is working wonderfully well. I'm assuming that everyone just uses a dosage that works for them? I haven't seen any hard and fast rules regarding that. Also, for how long do you take it? Every day forever? I've seen one site that recommended a month on and month off. I have no qualms about taking it every day. It has even cut my appetite. Thanks again for a great site!"

[NAY]  02/09/2010: John from Sulphur Springs, Texas writes: "I have suffered from gout for about 9 years, it started in my toes, but about 4 years ago it moved to all my larger joints, ankles, knees, wrists, hands, elbows & shoulders. I was having attacks about every 6-8 weeks. Then I read about ACV & started trying that in hopes that something would work. I started the ACV on 11/29/09 & stopped it on 12/17/09 because I was having one attack after the other. The VA has me on Prednizone & allopurinol for maintenance & are starting me on Indomethacin for when I feel an attack coming on. I read about ACV with Mother & tried that for about 20 days, taking one tsp. with baking soda in 8oz. water twice per day. The gout attacks became more frequent ( 10 attacks in 90 days)they would last from 3 days to 14 days with the latest attack lasting a full 30 days. I would really like to be able to use the Organic ACV with Mother but I am now afraid to try it again. Any suggestions??"

02/09/2010: Alain from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada replies: "Answer to John from Sulphur Springs about ACV and Gout.

I read that 60%-70% of uric acid is eliminated by the kidneys. It would indicate that gout might be an indication of reduced kidney functionality.

Also, being an acid, uric acid may dissolve better if the urine pH is less acidic. It is said that uric acid dissolves 1,000 more times with urine pH of 7 (neutral) than compared to a urine pH of 5 (acidic).

Here are a few recommendations:
Read the following pages, they are related with alkalizing formulas -
http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/gout_questions.html#Question_1246

http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/alkalizing_formulas.html

As a quick fix I would try the baking soda or BS ACV formulas to see if it helps. Careful with BS if you have water retention. But a better formula would be the [ACV or Lemon Juice or Citric Acid] [Baking Soda] [Potassium Bicarbonate or Potassium Citrate] [with a pinch of Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulphate)]. For the correct amounts see Ted's formula.

Drink a lot of good water to cleanse the system and help dissolve uric acid crystals.

You can also try these and alternate to see what may work. Soak a paper towel with ACV or Epsom Salt concentrated sollution or Milk of Magnesia, and wrap the painful area (then wrap with saran wrap plastic).

Buy yourself some pH paper and measure the pH of your urine. You should see that the pain will decrease as the pH of your urine will increase (I assume that your urine pH will show it is acidic). I recall that after using alkalizing formulas and drinking a lot of water of lot of pain disappeared after 10 hours. During that time, the pH of my urine went from below 5 to above 7.

BS formulas are quick fixes, some say they should not be done foe an extended amount of time. There are formulas that are more complete mineral wise.

I suggest you search the web for alkalizing diet. Seek food that are not detrimental to the liver and kidneys. Avoid alcohol (very acidic), processed food, sugar, synthetic sugar. Reduce red meat and shellfish ... Unfortunately it will probably mean a change in lifestyle, eating more natural. No soda pops, no coffee. When you will find alkalizing food charts you will know what is good and what is wrong.

Search my posts at earthclinic and see other web pages addresses I suggest for pH balance.

Finally good luck

Alain alainwiel[at]yahoo(dot)ca"

02/10/2010: John from Sulphur Springs, Texas replies: "Thanks for your quick responce, I look forward to trying your recommendations & I will keep you informed with my progress. I love the website, it's really nice to have a place that offers natural/alternative options for our health problems. All medications have such terrible side effects, I know the Good Lord gave us the herbs to heal ourselves with if we only would, but it all goes back to greed & money. Shame on the AMA & FDA!"

[YEA]  01/08/2010: Barry from Shawnigan Lake Bc, Canada writes: "Dear Earth Clinic, thank you so much for posting so many positive comments regarding Apple Cider Vinegar! I recently had my first bout with Gout, and ACV scored an impressive knockout! I had been taking a diuretic for high blood pressure and in my initial research I learned that my medication could be contributing to my gout. It was new years eve and I couldn't get out to see my doctor until the following monday (4 days later) I found your website and learned about ACV. I knew we had some as my wife had asked me to purchase some for home made salad dressings. It wasn't organic with "mother" but rather a typical commercial brand "pure" ACV. Beggars can't be choosers and with nothing to lose, I decided to give it a try. I followed the instructions on your website and began to take 2 tbsp with water, tomato juice, etc. Within 12 hours the swelling crested and within 36 hours I was about 80% better. I was completely cured within 5 days. My Doctor confirmed that my medication could contribute to gout and was very impressed with ACV as a remedy. I decided to read up a little more about the benefits of ACV for my high blood pressure. Well, it's been 9 days now and with my doctors blessing, I've weaned myself off my medication. I've purchased an organic brand with the "mother" (available at most specialty grocery and health food stores) and I'm happy to report that my blood pressure is steady in the 122/80 range and is lower now that when I was on the medication (135/88). Thanks again! Like the oldtimers, I've started to take it straight up (with an apple juice chaser) I have more energy and am continuing my daily routine of 1/2 shot glass 2-3 times a day as I attempt to shed 40 lbs over the next 6 months. It's the miracle I've been looking for and I'm telling the world! Cheers!"

03/14/2010: Michael from Kansas City, Ks replies: "I am curious as to how the ACV is working for you now. I am 43 years old and this is the second time I have been "hit" with gout. As many of you can easily attest the pain from gout is often quite unbearable! I have it in my right ankle this time. The first time was in my big toe on my left foot.

I will try the ACV and see what happens. I have been drinking cherry juice but have really not seen a benefit as of yet. However...I'll give it another shot. I can't be put in the position of NOT being able to work...

Thanks."

[YEA]  12/30/2009: Robm from N. Las Vegas, Nv, USA writes: "I came down with a bad case of gout in my right big toe. I searched on line and came across this site. I started by mixing 4 ounces of regular store bought apple cider vinegar with 20 ounces of cold water. I added a packet of sweetner to make it palitable. The next morning my pain had gone from an 8 to a 3 or 4. I continued with mixing 4 tablespoons of ACV with 8 ounces of water, 3x a day. It has now been 2 days and I am virtually pain free with full movement of my toe."

[YEA]  10/26/2009: John from Glendale, California writes: "Wanting to cut back on my hard liquor consumption, I switched to red wine for about ten days. Just two glasses with my evening meal. Sure enough, it triggered my second gout attack. The first one required medication and took weeks to eliminate the agony. Thank God I found this site and thanks to all who wrote in about organic ACV. I went to the Whole Foods Market immediately and took about 3 ounces with 14 ounces of water. Whoeee that is stronger than straight 151 proof rum!! I did not add honey being diabetic. The pain in my right foot was reduced 80% by the next morning and completely eliminated within 48 hours. You have my complete and total gratitude."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  10/24/2009: Mel from New Harmony, Ut writes: "Wow, I spent several hours going through your site and others regarding gout and the causes and cures. I had already started to get hydrated by drinking a bunch of water. The pain that has be on and off for about two months and pretty bad the last couple days has subsided a bit. Well enough that I went to the Movies with my wife tonight. When we returned the pain was back to a higher level. BTW, I have not been diagnosed with Gout, but have all the symptoms. All the foods to avoid I love and have been trying to loose a little weight lately. We eat pretty healthy, mainly Bison and veggies. A couple days a week we eat vegan. So, finally after reading many comments on your site, I decided that since I had some ACV with "Mothers" in it on the shelf in the pantry, I would try 3 Tablespoons in a bit of water. I chugged it down about an hour and half ago. I sit here and can feel a tingle in my foot and the pain is going away as I sit here. I can wiggle my toe up and down with almost no pain, where before I could wiggle my toe, but there was pain. About a 7 on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most painful.

Wow, is all I have to say. I really didn't expect that. I expected to wake up and have no change and have to take more to feel anything. I will certainly continue this daily. I drive a tour bus and will make sure to take ACV with me on the road. I guess it is like an apple a day....thanks"

[NAY]  07/23/2009: Crystal from KY, USA writes: "My husband has been suffering for gout for around fifteen years. Whenever he had an attack the medicine the docter gave him would make him very sick and he would lose weight and become very weak. It was awful to see him in so much pain,he could not even stand for the bed sheet to rub his foot. I decided to try to find a natural cure for gout that might help him so i went searching on the internet and came upon this site. I read all the post about AVC greatly relieving and even curing peoples gout,I got very excited and since we had some on hand I got my husband to take the recomended dose that same night and the next day.I had great hopes that the ACV would help him but my hopes where dashed the next morning when he woke up with his big toe very swollen and in pain. I felt awful! He had not even been having an attack when I got him to try the ACV and now here he was in lots of pain after taking the ACV.....Not only did he have an attack but where he usually only got it in his feet for the next six months its spread from his big toe to his knees and on up into his hand and then into his elbow. All in all the attacks came one after the other for six months. Half of the year he was in almost constant pain! Now he has a HUGE knot on his elbow because the attack there was the worst one.

I have never felt worse in my life watching him in so much pain and feeling that I caused it because it was my idea for him to try ACV. I was desperate to help him and started asking local pharmacies what to do for him and it just so happened that one of the owners happened to have gout himself and told me to get my husband some cherry concentrate, he said it helped him better then anything. I found some black cherry concentrate at a local _____ for twenty dollars and even though I was now weary of home remedies I figured it really couldnt hurt so I had my husband start drinking the cherry concentrate and i am so glad i did because after about a week his attack in his elbow receded and now two months later he hasnt had anymore attacks. He walks better then he has in a long time.
From what I have read on here it seems as if ACV has worked for many people but my advice to anyone that is thinking of trying it for gout is, Please be very careful and weigh all your options before trying ACV or at least start out in a very small dose.

Thank You"

07/24/2009: Michael from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "As you can see from my email below, the ACV helped me 90% but not completely. However, while ACV was helping, it's interesting to note that INITIALLY, my big toe swelled more for about 3 hours with throbbing and some pain before it finally subsided and got it 90% cured quite quickly.

I suspect that the increased throbbing (with some pain) was the ACV sorta "dissolving" the "hardened" uric acid crystals in my toe and later eliminating it from my system. Maybe in your husband's case (15 years) there was just so much uric acid deposits that the dissolving/throbbing/pain process was more intense and takes longer than the 2-3 hours it took for me.

Just a guess; I'm no doctor.. but then again, doesn't seem like conventional doctors know about the true physical effects "earth medicines" either! lol"

09/06/2009: Lightfallonme from Brandon, MS replies: "Have been suffering from 1st onset of gout for months now, from knee down on both legs. Severe edema in both legs. Have not found a cure yet but will try some of the recipes found here. To the woman whose husband suffered from gout for 15 yrs, honey, you may have used the processed ACV. The vinegar you need to use is the organic apple cidar vinegar with the "stringy mother" in it. It's brown & gross looking but is the only one that works. It's loaded with potassium, vit c & nutrients you won't find in the processed junk. Doctors have been useless and I won't take the dangerous meds; however, the organic apple cidar vinegar provides relief & helps get rid of the fluid build-up that's so painful. Will try a combination of the treatments I see here & will let you know what works. ACV does provide enough relief for me to function but attack so severe, guess it's going to take a combination or longer length of time for cure & I'm not willing to wait longer."

09/21/2009: Roey from Somers, Ny replies: "Thank you for the info on ORGANIC apple cider vinegar. I totally agree it MUST be organic. My husband has suffered for gout for years, he was 60 when his first attack came. He was always very active but this horrible ailment stopped him in his tracks..literally. Conventional doctors are no help..they just prescribe meds with all kind of side effects and who knows what kind of problems they will cause down the road. It's a quick easy fix..which most people want. The real cure is possible but most people do not have the fortitude or ability to deprive themselves of all the unhealthy eating habits and mind altering substances that cause all the problems in the long run.

My husband went to a medical Doctor who trained in alternative healing with a famous MD and authority on Alternative healing. His prescripion was very simple..but also complex in other ways. He claimed that Gout is a sympton of clogged internal filters which need to be cleansed by detoxing. Basically the kidneys and lover are not functioning to capacity. He gave my husband a protocol which I did with him for support and why not optimize my own health.

For the first 2 weeks cut out everything acidic. Alcohol, caffine, animal fat (all red meat). Basically become a vegetarian. No white flour, refined sugar or gluten or wheat products. 64 oz of water and or herbal tea..no caffine. The next 7 days consists of 16oz of Green Juice from organic greens 4X per day. 8am 11am 2pm and 5pm in addition to 64 oz water/herbal tea. Enzymes and probotics are also recommended as well as other dietary supplements like a quality multivitamin.

Last but not least..get ready for this one..Daily Tap Water Retention Enema 1x per day. 1qt. water in bag with 4 drops lemon juice. Hold water in roll to left side hold 3 minutes if possible, come up to all 4's head slightly lower than your butt..hold 3 min..roll to right side hold 3 minutes..finally position self against wall and raise legs up wall..hold 3 minutes..after this release into toilet. If cramp deep breaths help. and messaging lower abs...This routine helps to relieve toxic substances and toxic effects from fast such as headaches and edginess. Rigourous exercise not recommended. Important to slow down.

The juice fast ingredients are: 1/2 cucumber, handful of parsley, 5 stalks of kale, 3 stalks fennel, 3 stalks of celery and 5 stems of dandelion, all organic. Add a small piece of ginger root. Coming off the fast is very important. Just some brown rice and steamed green vegitable, salads..no vinegar very acidic use lemon juice and olive oil. You cannot jump back into old eating pattern. Vegetarian life style works well for gouts sufferers or limit your animal protein. Rice pasta is a good alternative with olive oil and garlic. Light fish such as sole, flounder, snapper, cod..no shellfish..highly acidic. Try to substitute green tea for coffee which is also very acidic.

My husband has been gout free for 3 years. If it comes back he will just go through the protocol again. A small price to pay for good health and no more pain! Check out the work of Gabriel Cousens and the Tree of Life Rejuvination center. They are very radical and proponants of eating only raw vegetarian food but they have good tips on detoxing and how to do it safely. You can find them on line. Also retreat centers like Kripalu in Lenox Mass. and Omega in Rhinebeck NY offer supervised week long fasts. Good Luck!!! Oh yes..yoga and meditation are great ways to heal the body and the mind and learn to slow down."

09/22/2009: Julie from Ellwood City, Pa, Usa replies: "Cherries are another very successful home remedy to prevent gout. If you can eat fresh while in season, do so; otherwise, buying a can of cherry pie filling and eating the cherries will work also. It is up to you as to whether or not you want to rinse them off. Cherries are more successful than the RX medication Cholchicine for gout. Eat a can of cherries over a weeks time or so; eating just a few a day is all that is required. Simple and effective way to prevent gout "attacks" and faster at getting rid of gout if currently suffering."

10/31/2009: Charcoal from Hong Kong Sar, China replies: "I've got over 10 times of gout attack randomly around 7-8 years and now I'm having the 11th so I found this web site. I agree with Michael when the remedy works it dissolves the crystal so this happened to me is more painful to the joint(imagine the mountain of needles are breaking so you get more needles in the fluid), but after the overnight of deadly painful I will get better.

I didn't try the ACV but my handy remedy is mixing lemon juice with baking soda (half piece of lemon's juice mixing with baking soda until no more bubble developed, then dilute with glass full of water)

Also, I'm taking over the counter painful killer

However, I think any natural remedy is good for minor to moderate cases and I'm sure drinking water is the most natural one.

After first few attacks I never go to physician again because they don't understand your painful and they cannot monitor your situations at home."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  07/23/2009: Michael from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "Worse gout attack since first time and extremely painful (left big toe, or more like foot!), and cherries and medicines didn't cure it this time (worked before).

ACV 2 Tbsp 2x/day with juice worked very well, 90% improvement quite quickly (about 3-4 days) and removed the intense pain and swelling, and could walk 85% fine (kinda limp a bit) again...

However, it's been more than a week since that "big improvement" and I continue taking the ACV, yet there seems to be very little improvement since then, and it's still 5 to 10% painful/immobilized, and still cannot "fully" bend my toe (although before I couldn't bend it at all, couldn't even touch it).

Any comments? =0"

07/23/2009: alain from Ottawa, Canada replies: "Suggestions for gout.

You should get some pH paper and measure your urine pH. I read that 60%-80% of uric acid is eliminated with the urine. If the pH of the urine is for example 7 instead of 5 (very acidic) then 1000 times more uric acid is dissolved in the urine.

You can increase the pH (less acidic) if you take your ACV with baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). If you have water retention, half of the baking soda should be replaced with potassium bicarbonate or potassium citrate.

See http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/alkalizing_formulas.html

Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda Formula
Two tablespoon of ACV plus 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. Take this two to three times a day on an empty stomach. It is supposed to give you more energy. The pH of this formula is about 7.

For People with Sodium Issues and Want to Alkalize
1/8 teaspoon of baking soda 1/16 teaspoon of potassium bicarbonate 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid. Add water to 1/2 glass of water. Take this twice a day once in the morning and once in the evening on an empty stomach. This is done to avoid diarrhea problems, if taken along with food.

More formulas can be found.

Try to find more of my posts in EC for other alkalizing suggestions.

Also, search the internet for "Alkalizing foot baths".

Good Luck

Alain"

[YEA]  07/07/2009: Dave from Lancashire, England writes: "I last had gout 8 years ago. It was a very bad attack and the doc gave me Naprosyn but unfortunately the attack lasted for weeks. Last week after too much cheese and wine, I felt another attack coming on. My big toe started swelling and was inflamed and red. The pain was building up and I prayed it wasn't going to be another fully-fledged attack. I found this site and sent for some organic acv. I took a couple of tablespoons in a glass of water 3 times a day and adapted my diet to include lots of water, celery, cherries, strawberries, salad, radish and other healthy stuff. I also took some turmeric, vit C, chelated magnesium and milk thistle.

I bought some comfrey oil and put some on the toe. (I once cured a badly frozen shoulder with a poultice of comfrey leaves from my garden). Within about 3 days, the pain lessened, the swelling went down and I could walk again. Boy was I relieved. It was like winning the lottery. I have had several attacks of gout over the years and I do not want that pain again. I refused to see a doctor after the tablets he prescribed last time had little or no effect - except possibly side-effects.

I will take a maintenance dose of ACV and I sincerely hope that anyone who has gout can control it with ACV and the right diet. Keep off those drugs."

[YEA]  07/07/2009: Debi from Norfolk, VA writes: "I couldn't understand the last few weeks why my feet were getting so bad again, when they have seemed practically cured for over six months. Then it occurred to me. I had run out of my jug of apple cider vinegar (with the mother in it) and with so much going on having summer guests and whatnot, I had forgotten to replace it.

It made perfect sense why my feet were getting so bad again and I was in misery - so I got another bottle yesterday and did my usual 6 oz of water with a tablespoon of the vinegar mixed in (no honey or anything else) and sipped it all morning until it was gone, then had another glass (same mixture) in the late afternoon.

My feet this morning are so improved, I can't believe it. Of course I am not skipping this little daily drink again (also using it in salad dressing and in any recipes that call for vinegar). It truly does work!"

EC: Hi Debi. Are you referring to gout or an arthritic condition? We're posting this on the gout page in the meantime...

[YEA]  05/29/2009: John from Midland, Texas writes: "I have had gout for years and stumbled onto this website. The last year I have had some gout pain almost daily. I tried the 2 tbl in water 3 times a day for 2 days and have now been painfree for 5 days. I am waiting to see how long it takes any pain to return but so far I would agree this offers VERY quick relief."

[YEA]  05/13/2009: GEO from Hoyland Nether, South Yorkshire writes: "While doing some web research to help a friend find relief from gout, I discovered I was suffering with it after seeing photos and reading about the symptoms - swollen big toe, red spots, and of course, excruciating pain.

My sister is a vehement advocate of apple cider vinegar (ACV) and honey for anything that ails you; consequently, I checked it out on the Internet as a gout remedy, and the overwhelming response from people was that it worked wonders.

Being an ex-investigative environmental journalist, I wanted to find out why for my own satisfaction. From the preponderance of anecdotal testimonies alone, my research overwhelming indicated that ACV has helped people with a host of maladies, and has been used for thousands of years for everything from foot fungus to kidney ailments.

However, in spite all the positive personal testimonies as to ACV's effectiveness, I couldn't find any any substantive scientific research to back to back the glowing testimonials. In fact. When I finally found the analysis for trace minerals in ACV, the amount people take should have no impact whatsoever on any malady. Acetic acid is about the only active ingredient that would impact anything.

So eliminating myself from any placebo effect bias, I tried a few tablespoons of ACV in water. It alleviated the major symptoms shortly after the first dose. After two days, I only have some residual pain in the ball of my foot instead what felt like festering boil two days before."

[YEA]  05/01/2009: David from Midland, Tx writes: "I have had a swollen, painful big toe joint on my right foot for over two years. The left foot was becoming dotted with red spots as well as swelling in both ankles. Went to the Dr. in March, 2009 and he dignosed Gout and gave me 100mg of allopurinol daily. No improvement as of April 29. I looked up Gout cures on the internet that night and saw Apple Cider Vinegar being used with positive results. I remember family members who are all gone now, taking honey and apple cider vinegar for lots of ailments, so thought, what the heck. I took 3 tablespoons of cider yesterday a.m., last night and this morning I have no pain nor redness. This is unbelievable. I also stopped taking the meds which I know you aren't to do. These results in my case are amazing. My wife cannot believe all the redness disappeared overnight. I hope this keeps up."

[NAY]  04/15/2009: Chans from American Fork, UT writes: "I was very skeptical when trying ACV but then what do I have to lose? Well after 3 days I'm limping worse than when I started ACV. Before I can limp around but now it seems like it's spread to other joints in my foot that I'm not able to even move around at all. I was doing 2 tbs 1 cup of water for 3 times a day and taking Shark Cartlidge pills. I have a Disney World trip with my family the end of May. I hope to God it is gone then so I've not given up on ACV just yet."

01/01/2010: Erics from Elko, Nevada, Usa replies: "Hello Chans, my name is Eric and I live one state to the west of you. I have had gout on and off for 10 years. Have you been experiencing gout for a long time? I suspect the intensifying pain with your initial ACV treatment is due to the UA crystal build-up dissolving in your joints and becoming liberated. I took Allopurinol (wow, bad stuff) and the same thing happened to me for 3 months.. frequent attacks (although shorter) and in areas that I had never had gout before. The unfortunate nature of excess uric acid is that it leaves abundant deposits in your joints that you might not be aware of. It could be that continued ACV use will help rid you of those "hidden" deposits and your overall joint health will improve."

[YEA]  02/26/2009: Jay from Scottsdale, AZ writes: "Apple cider vinegar has helped with my latest gout attack. My first attack happened a year ago and I was clueless about a solution. It took a week to see a doctor and by then it was improving. I limped around for weeks.

My second attack happened two days ago and I immediately applied an aspirin cream to my toe. That was a huge mistake, the pain got worse. Later I started on apple cider vinegar with honey, grape juice, cherry juice, huge volumes of fluids and soaking my foot in epsom salts.

When the next night was also sleepless, I was despondant. I had suicidal thoughts. I could not imagine living with that kind of pain for the rest of my life. After reading all of the success stories I was ready to give up . . . but I didn't. I reduced the amount of meat and increased fruit and vegetables in my diet and continued the same therapy. By afternoon I was walking with significantly less pain.

Today, day three, there is a painful red spot on the side of my toe. I am able to bend the joint in both directions with little pain. I am walking with little discomfort. Next time I have a gout attack, I will get out of bed and begin the healing process immediately."

[YEA]  02/22/2009: Dan from Lakewood, OH writes: "Apple Cider Vinegar works for Gout. I long suffered from gout in my feet and ankles. I tried everything over past several years. I stumbled across the Earth Clinic website. They recommended ACV with the "mother". I took two tablespoons in 6 oz. of warm water three times a day (morning, noon and night). I have not had a flare-up in two weeks. ACV seems to work well for my gout. I will continue to take ACV at least once a day for the near future."

[YEA]  02/18/2009: Stu from Pleasanton, California writes: "I was diagnosed with gout 7 years ago after an excrutiating acute episode in my right toe. After several painful episodes, I went on allipurinol for years very successfully but wanted to get off not thinking that there were natural cures anywhere. After reading the ACV therapy I gave up the drugs cold turkey. I knew this was not wise as your body needs to ease off of it. Sure enough within five days I felt the right toe episode with which I had so long dealt with coming on. I immediatly tried the ACV approach. I did 1 - 3 tablespoons mixed with Cherry juice and after three doses in the same day I knew I would know by the next morning whether or not this would work. Sure enough it was subsiding during the day and gone by the morning. Definitly works so far! Thanks!!"

I could hardly walk at all and not walking just doesn't fit into my life as a restaurant owner I am on my feet 12-14 hours a day.The Dr. prescribed Celebrex but after she told me all the side effects I was too scared to take it. So Sunday nite I found this web site and thought Ill the apple cider vinegar approach. I had a near full bottle of a store brand. I mixed 3 tablespoons in a glass very cold water and a couple hours later mixed another 3 tablespoons in another glass of cold water. I thought it was hurting lesss and the swelling was going down after a couple hours but I could'nt be sure. When I woke the morning next it was way less swollen and did not hurt near as much. I took another dose before my am coffee and went to the medical supply store and purchased a velcro shoe. My foot was so swollen my shoe made it worse. 3 more doses and 24 hours later the swelling and pain is 90% gone! Thank you very much for this infomation!!!"

[YEA]  10/09/2008: Rebecca from Aberdeen, Washington writes: "Apple cider vinegar all but eliminated swelling and pain. I am 58 and have been in good shape most of my life but had a low back injury over 3 years ago and have had severe pain and stiffness which has sent me to doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, massage therapists and even a rolfer for 15 sessions! All of these helped but very temporarily. I have also been doing yoga and exercises from a book called Relaxercise (excellent by the way) which have also helped but only somewhat. I had been getting worse within the past few months and had develped knee, foot and hand pain along with swelling of these areas especially one ankle and foot which was twice the normal size. It hurt to walk or wear any type of shoe. My husband is an RN who looked at my swollen ankle and foot and told me it almost looked like gouty arthritis. This comment prompted me to research the subject and I found a blog of 100's of people all of who had been using ACV and all but 1 person rated the treatment 5 stars. I immediately went to a health food store and bought the organic, unfiltered ACV and started by taking 3 tablespoons in a large glass of water sweetened with organic raw honey. Following the first dose the night before, I woke to find the swelling reduced to about 1/4 of what it had been and the pain nearly gone. The stuff works like a miracle! I have continued to take it every day but have cut down the dose to 2 tablespoons 2-3 times per day in the same amount of water with honey. I have only a twinge of pain and 1 spot of swelling about the size of a quarter remaining on my ankle. Amazingly, my low back has less pain and more mobility than what I have ever had since the injury over 3 years ago. All this and I have only discovered this treatment less than 1 week ago! Amazing!!"
