03/17/2013: Alex from Albuquerque, New Mexico Usa: "Now that I have a bout with diarrhea sort of under control, what do I eat? When and how much etc, I am starved but concerned of a relapse. I am trying to understand gut flora, and such. I am 78 and this is the first encounter with diarrhea that has lasted now more than a month. All my life I've claimed a 'cast iron stomach' and could eat and drink any thing, no problem. Thanks Alex"Replies
03/18/2013: Mmsg from Somewhere, Europe replies: "Alex, you might start with white rice, banana and/or grated apple (let it turn brown). These are some of the staples for firming up things. Remember to chew well."
03/18/2013: Anon from Anon replies: "Hi, you will need to bath in mineral salts like Epsom salts or Himalayan salt- or use footbaths ( or feet in washing up bowl). I would recommend a teaspoon of blackstrap molasses which contains vital minerals. Did you find out why you had diarrhea? This needs checking if you've not done so. Eat bland foods which are easily digestible like rice/ potatoes, maybe eggs."
03/18/2013: Kelly from Cinti, Ohio replies: "Hi Alex from New Mexico: forgive me if this post duplicates but I'm having some computer problems. Here goes. Don't fear diarrhea just go to your local health food store and get activated charcoal (AC). It works much better than otc remedies. Take only one at a time as it is a very powerful remedy. God created our bodies to subsist on veggies and fruit, so enjoy those. Even if there is a recurrence, the AC will stop it in its tracks. Actually, the AC can be a little constipating so you will need the fruits and veggie to balance out your system. Don't panic if your stool is black as that is just the AC. God Bless!"
[YEA] 01/26/2012: Cecilia from Bournmouth, Uk: "I frequently get diarrhea, which has so far been put down to IBS. I often resorted to taking diarrhea pills, but felt I was taking them much too often, and was worried about long-term effects.
Then by chance, I found that whenever I ate boiled potatoes it cleared up quickly. If I make sure that I eat them with a meal every day then I suffer a lot less regularly."Replies
01/27/2012: Francisca from Zug, Switzerland replies: "1 tbspoon of white clay in a liter of water, you let it rest for a few hours and then drink a bit once in a while. Helps me big time!"
[YEA] 09/21/2007: Kris from Omaha, Nebraska: "I suffered from chronic diarrhea and painful gas for two months after taking a 10-week course of Prevacid (a ppi). Stopping the medication didn't help and eating a simpler diet didn't help. I started taking a teaspoon of psyllium husk in a glass of water every day. Within 48 hours the diarrhea and most of the gas were gone. I plan to continue with the psyllium for a while. Thank goodness for small miracles!"

12/07/2012: Lisa from Thousand Oaks, Ca, Usa replies: "Hi Barb, I'm sorry to hear of your having to deal with this with no relief. I am going to tell you what my mom would make me when I had this problem growing up. She never gave it a name but it is called Jook or Congee in the Chinese culture. It's a rice soup and very comforting. It would always calm my stomach and then the diarrhea would cease. I still love jook but usually only get it in Chinatown when we go for our dim sum. I am going to give you a link for a recipe since my mom would just "put it together". This will make it easier for you to know the amounts of the ingredients.
Here's another recipe with photos and you can also see the variations that are in these recipes as they are usually "family recipes" passed down:
Hope this helps! Take care, Lisa"
12/08/2012: Ed2010 from Oakville, Canada replies: "Hi Barb, Should be some infection. To stop the diarrhea:
Take 1 tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar in a glass of cold water morning and evening. May be couple of days or till the diarrhea stops. (would take 1 to 3 days).
And to strengthen the stomach and intestines take Home Made Milk Kefir 2 cups a day or at least 1 cup a day. Even if you can't make Milk Kefir, buy some milk kefir some store.
If you are in any type of antacid , it is time to stop it and take the natural way.
Good Health, thanks"
10/11/2012: Maggie from Kl, Malaysia: "Dear doc, I'm 30 years old female. I have 2 sons. Last year I had laproscopic to remove my gallbladder with stones. After the surgery I had loose motion every times I eat. Then after three months it was ok. Now for the past six months I have severe diarrhea. I have to go to the washroom 3-5 times a day. I have tried a lot of medication but it doesn't help me. I can't go out of the house. It makes me lose hope. Since I have two small children to look on. I feel that I need to get help. If I take lopramide then it makes my stomach to cramp, bloat, severe needle poking pain. Pls help me.... Tq"
[YEA] 08/14/2006: Barbara from Houston, TX: "2 1/2 cups water, 1 cup rice. Prepare rice using above measurements, do not add salt to rice while cooking. After 15 minutes the rice will be soupy. Drain off the excess water from rice and drink Rice Water warm. If diarrhea persist after 4 hours, drink more rice water."
[YEA] 01/15/2012: Dobby from Warnbro, W Australia: "My young baby daughter got really bad diarrhoea when I was in Europe. The doctor told me to boil rice and the gluggy water that was left after boiling the rice to add it to her milk bottle I added a quarter milk and filled the bottle with rice water. She was happy as she had her bottle, next day she was better two days she was fine."
[YEA] 06/05/2009: Maria J. from Colorado City, AZ: "This is the home remedy my mother always used for diarrhea: Boil one ounce of rice to one quart of water for twenty minutes, then strain and drink."
[YEA] 03/04/2008: Jacob from Bartlett, IL: "Hi One remedy I have used consistently since childhood is one I learnt from my mother. Its a simple South-Indian remedy.
Heat 1 teaspoon of sesame seeds in a pan till it starts popping. Once it starts popping nicely and starts giving out smoke, add half glass of water and let it boil for a few minutes. Cool and filter the liquid. Drinking this pale yellow liquid has been the most effective cure for diarhhea that I have seen. You can repeat it once more."
[YEA] 06/05/2009: Maria J. from Colorado City, AZ: "For diarrhea: Make a tea with sunflower leaves, then take it one teaspoon at a time, until you return to normal. Increase the amount gradually as needed. Use carefully, because the tea can cause constipation."
[YEA] 09/15/2007: Chandra from Hammond, USA: "Cure Diarrhea: Children and Adults -- The BRATT diet:
Obviously as plain as you can tolerate... I found the best meal (tolerable) was plain rice (obviously cooked), plain toast, and chamomile tee... bananas for "snacks"
Within 24 hours my daughter's (then 2yo) and mine had stopped. We were also nauseated and within 2 days, or 24 hours after the "runs" stopped, we were able to tolerate soup... then other things"
[YEA] 03/03/2008: John Sebastian from Chicago, IL: "Free (though bizarre) Remedy for Diarrhea. I have discovered that the best immediate cure for diarrhea is masturbation. I'd rather not go into detail about how I found this out, but it works. I think it has something to do with the contraction of the sphincter upon ejaculation. I can only imagine that no one else has discovered this, because it's probably the last thing anyone would think to do when they have indigestion. I have no proof that it works with females, as my wife has been reluctant to try it. But for guys like myself, you'll never need to drink Pepto again."
[YEA] 11/06/2013: Teecee from Pittsburgh, Pa: "I have had issues with soft stool for a couple of months, finally remember turmeric, and took it on Sunday November 3rd, in the afternoon. Had a decent firm movement that evening...felt great, had the turmeric before work the next day, another firm movement that day, same thing for tuesday a.m. wonderful feeling. Today, Wednesday, Nov 6th, I tested it by not taking any turmeric this a.m. before work, and had a small movement, a couple little ones is all that came out.
Later in the afternoon, I had some softstools although it seemed to try to firm up as I finished.
I'm going to get back to taking the warm water with a teaspoon of turmeric tonite, probably every day now...."Replies
03/14/2014: Phil from Philipines replies: "My friend's two children have diarrhea and their mother took them to a doctor who gave them medicine and wanted to have them admitted to the hospital. She didn't have have the money for that. Their taking the medicine. Would it be alright for them to take turmeric along with the medicine?"
03/14/2014: Mama To Many from Tennessee, Usa replies: "Hello Phil,
I have given my children turmeric for many things and found it to be quite safe and effective for them. For a 4 year old or so, I have mixed 1/4 teaspoon in some applesauce, yogurt, or honey 3 times a day. For a 10 year old I might give 1/2 teaspoon three times a day. For a teen, I would give 3/4-1 teaspoon, the same as an adult. Just sharing you that to give a starting place to dose children.
Since turmeric is a food, it should be compatible with medication. However, turmeric can be constipating if enough water is not taken. Just keep that in mind with whatever medication is being given. I once used Immodium about 25 years ago. I guess it stopped the diarrhea but caused such terrible stomach pain in my (and my husband) we never have used it again.
Hope that helps.
~Mama to Many~"
[YEA] 03/12/2013: Calil W. from Atlanta, Ga.: "Absolute YEA.
I was taking the dreaded antibiotic, Clindamycin, which is legendary in it's reputation for not only horrible diarrhea, but also C. Diff as well. Anyway, I was starving becuase I basically crapped everything out all night. And, I decided to instead add 2 tablespoons of turmeric to my meal. Meal being: fried fish, collard greens, and mac and cheese... yup soul food..lol.
Ok, so I eat my meal with the turmeric added and voila! Like magic no diarrhea. And, most of all, the food tasted even better with it!
Also, for people who are having trouble drinking water with turmeric due to taste, you can also try making a wonderfully smooth and tasty turmeric drink using Almond Milk. Warm up your almond mik a little bit in the microwave first, then add 1 tablespoon of turmeric after you warmed the milk and umm hmm good! Tasty and no more diarrhea!
God Bless Earth Clinic!"
