[YEA] 07/02/2012: David from Woodburn, Oregon, Usa: "To stop diarrhea in adults, pour 1 teaspoon (for kids use 1/4 teaspoon) of ground nutmeg in a spoon. Fill a glass with at least 2 cups of water. Put the spoon of ground nutmeg into your mouth. Drink the glass of water and eat the teaspoon of nutmeg at the same time.
Wait two hours while drinking plenty of water. If you still have diarrhea at this point, eat another 1 teaspoon and 2 cups of water. If diarrhea persists then stop use and try something else.
This worked wonders when I was in grade school!"

[YEA] 10/07/2008: Rae from Pearl City, Hawaii: "Pickle Juice (remedy) for Diarrhea:
My family has been using this remedy for years and years. It really works!!! This remedy is used when you have a bad case of diarrhea. Just take at least 3Tbsp. of pickle juice (from the regular plain Dill Pickles jar) and right away you'll start to feel better and you won't have to worry about running to the bathroom. It really works wonders!!! Good Luck!!!"
Replies[YEA] 07/03/2010: Picklejuicecuredchronicdiarrhea from Montana Usa replies: "I stumbled across this diarrhea remedy by accident. Dill pickle juice! I drank about 3/4 of a cup from the bottom of a jar of sliced dill pickle spears and whoa! I noticed that it had worked so well against post-prandial diarrhea that I became constipated for only the 5th or 6th time in my life! So use it in smaller amounts, but try it, it tastes great and garlicky and interesting too. It seemed miraculous because I'd almost daily or more often get diarrhea after eating so many foods for the last 5 years or so, and had even curtailed trips to the store or anywhere until I was sure I was "empty" and even then sometimes I'd have to dump my shopping cart and make a B line to the store bathroom, so anxiety-producing! But now the diarrhea is cured as far as I can tell. I mean I now have a totally normal bowel response with no running off within 5 minutes to 1/2 hr. of eating formerly diarrhea-causing foods. It has been about 2 weeks now and I seem to be normal, like other people who just eat and travel and so on without worrying about how far to a rest stop or how close ot a toilet they are. I can hardly believe it. Dill pickle juice (or dill pickle relish) work. I only found the remedy by craving pickles suddenly. I had both a little relish and a few spears plus the juice left in the jar sitting nice and cold in the fridge and man they seem to have done the trick within 10 mins or so, plus long-term. So cheap, so easy, so fast so open the jar and get some down yourself. I only wish I could drink more but I think it works too well because before I had figured out that was what had stopped diarrhea, I was enjoying them so much that I bought a new jar of pickles to eat and of course I overdid it and then got constipated, a new and unwelcome experience. I treated that finally after a few days of no-go with 2 capfuls of milk of magnesia because I was totally unaccustomed to constipation and found it very uncomfortable. Then I was perfect just like others. Only someone who's been under the misery of chronic diarrhea or sudden diarrhea can appreciate what a life-changing thing that cure can be. Travel! Go out! Stop fearing "what if" problems and go eat out or swim or anything. Dill juice rules!"
[YEA] 10/20/2011: Sindee from Carlsbad, California replies: "Worked for me too some while back. I took 1/2 teaspoon at 1/2 hour interval. Than prepared long grain rice leaving it a bit watery and adding a pinch of salt and pinch molasses. After any bout with diarrhea I always eat foods that are neutral that goes easy on the stomach, anything that has a bit of starch/carbs."
12/02/2012: Luluseven from Covington, La replies: "How often did you take the pickle juice & for how long? Hourly for 7 days? Once a day? 3x a week? I have the same symptoms as the lady in Montana & am dying-feel like I can hardly do anything ( especially in the am)... Anyway I love pickles so this will be easy! Please help me with dosage?"

Post-Diarrhea Diet
03/17/2013: Alex from Albuquerque, New Mexico Usa: "Now that I have a bout with diarrhea sort of under control, what do I eat? When and how much etc, I am starved but concerned of a relapse. I am trying to understand gut flora, and such. I am 78 and this is the first encounter with diarrhea that has lasted now more than a month. All my life I've claimed a 'cast iron stomach' and could eat and drink any thing, no problem. Thanks Alex"

I would recommend a teaspoon of blackstrap molasses which contains vital minerals. Did you find out why you had diarrhea? This needs checking if you've not done so. Eat bland foods which are easily digestible like rice/ potatoes, maybe eggs."
03/18/2013: Kelly from Cinti, Ohio replies: "Hi Alex from New Mexico: forgive me if this post duplicates but I'm having some computer problems. Here goes. Don't fear diarrhea just go to your local health food store and get activated charcoal (AC). It works much better than otc remedies. Take only one at a time as it is a very powerful remedy. God created our bodies to subsist on veggies and fruit, so enjoy those. Even if there is a recurrence, the AC will stop it in its tracks. Actually, the AC can be a little constipating so you will need the fruits and veggie to balance out your system. Don't panic if your stool is black as that is just the AC. God Bless!"

[YEA] 01/26/2012: Cecilia from Bournmouth, Uk: "I frequently get diarrhea, which has so far been put down to IBS. I often resorted to taking diarrhea pills, but felt I was taking them much too often, and was worried about long-term effects.
Then by chance, I found that whenever I ate boiled potatoes it cleared up quickly. If I make sure that I eat them with a meal every day then I suffer a lot less regularly."

[YEA] 09/21/2007: Kris from Omaha, Nebraska: "I suffered from chronic diarrhea and painful gas for two months after taking a 10-week course of Prevacid (a ppi). Stopping the medication didn't help and eating a simpler diet didn't help. I started taking a teaspoon of psyllium husk in a glass of water every day. Within 48 hours the diarrhea and most of the gas were gone. I plan to continue with the psyllium for a while. Thank goodness for small miracles!"

not sure if I bought the right coconut milk and I just downed it."
Replies12/07/2012: Lisa from Thousand Oaks, Ca, Usa replies: "Hi Barb, I'm sorry to hear of your having to deal with this with no relief. I am going to tell you what my mom would make me when I had this problem growing up. She never gave it a name but it is called Jook or Congee in the Chinese culture. It's a rice soup and very comforting. It would always calm my stomach and then the diarrhea would cease. I still love jook but usually only get it in Chinatown when we go for our dim sum. I am going to give you a link for a recipe since my mom would just "put it together". This will make it easier for you to know the amounts of the ingredients.https://sites.google.com/site/susanwongssoupcollection/chinese-rice-soup-jook
Here's another recipe with photos and you can also see the variations that are in these recipes as they are usually "family recipes" passed down:

Hope this helps! Take care, Lisa"
12/08/2012: Ed2010 from Oakville, Canada replies: "Hi Barb, Should be some infection. To stop the diarrhea:Take 1 tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar in a glass of cold water morning and evening. May be couple of days or till the diarrhea stops. (would take 1 to 3 days).
And to strengthen the stomach and intestines take Home Made Milk Kefir 2 cups a day or at least 1 cup a day. Even if you can't make Milk Kefir, buy some milk kefir some store.
If you are in any type of antacid , it is time to stop it and take the natural way.
Good Health, thanks"

[YEA] 03/04/2008: Jacob from Bartlett, IL: "Hi One remedy I have used consistently since childhood is one I learnt from my mother. Its a simple South-Indian remedy.
Heat 1 teaspoon of sesame seeds in a pan till it starts popping. Once it starts popping nicely and starts giving out smoke, add half glass of water and let it boil for a few minutes. Cool and filter the liquid. Drinking this pale yellow liquid has been the most effective cure for diarhhea that I have seen. You can repeat it once more."

[YEA] 06/05/2009: Maria J. from Colorado City, AZ: "For diarrhea: Make a tea with sunflower leaves, then take it one teaspoon at a time, until you return to normal. Increase the amount gradually as needed. Use carefully, because the tea can cause constipation."
