BOILED MILK

YEA

[YEA]  09/05/2009: Amanda from Osburn, Idaho, USA writes: "I was once told by my great grandmother this, I tried it and it worked---I couldn't believe it, I couldn't tell you why it works, it just does.

To stop diarrhea boil two cups of whole milk (IT HAS TO BE WHOLE MILK).
Let it cool to a drink able stage.
It forms a skim of "skin" on top as it cools on the surface---peel it off.
Drink it.
I have had it work every time for me."

[YEA]  12/19/2008: Carole from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia writes: "This quick, safe and easy "cure" for diarrhea is ideal for adults, children and even babies. It is a remedy passed down through generations and never fails. I've used it myself, for my son, my husband and just about everyone I've ever known has found relief. What is it? Boiled milk. Simply measure out a cup of regular milk on the stove (not in the microwave) and bring just to a boil. Allow to cool and remove the skin off the top. You can drink it while it's still a bit warm. Ideally you would use 2% milk or even homo (skim milk might be too 'thin'). If you have diarrhea with gas, nausea and/or lots of gut noises, add a few pinches of ginger powder to the milk while heating it. For babies, they should be at an age where they can drink cow's milk. A cup of boiled milk should be enough for anyone at any age and you can drink as much as you want. Why the milk works only when boiled is a mystery to me - but it's easy enough for anyone to try and tastes good too. Results should be within an hour or less."

BREAD PUDDING

[YEA]  06/27/2006: Nicole from Jacksonville Florida writes: "My mom told me to try bread pudding for my daughter who was 5 at the time for diarrhea. I had no idea how to make so I just winged it. My mom told me the milk had to be scorched so I boiled enough milk to cover the bottom of the pot until it seemed to be over cooked and cubed a piece or two of bread, crust and all, put some cinnamon and brown sugar in, mixed it until it was thick and gooey and not only did she love it, her diarrhea was gone. Even my mom was shocked when I told her it worked. Any time my daughter has any signs of diarrhea, I make it for her and it's worked every time. I hope this helps!"

C. DIFF DIAGNOSIS

03/08/2009: C.S.M from Vero Beach, FL writes: "Another thing--

C diff colonizes in the bowel and should not be treated unless she is having symptoms (abdominal symptoms, fever or diarrhea).

C. diff is a bacteria--it couldn't hurt to use turmeric per the advice here on Earth Clinic.

According to The Peoples Pharmacy --
http://www.peoplespharmacy.com/archives/herb_home_remedy_qa/coconut_saves_patients_life.php

"Shredded Coconut and coconut macaroons can be lifesaving for relief of diarrhea from several conditions. The response can be immediate or can take several weeks"

From the same source--consider adding pineapple for inflammatory properties.

In my experience, C diff can cause lactose intolerance at least for a while after the infection. Try a lactose free diet.

Earth Clinic-- Would you please add my response to any diarrhea treatment forums you have? C diff should be suspected in any case of diarrhea now (because of the use of antibiotics in man and animals) and, according to MSNBC, a superstrain of C diff may be in 40% of grocery store meats.

Thank you. And thanks for offering this wonderful resource for people! CSM"

CALCIUM

[YEA]  11/24/2010: Janet from Cincinnati, Ohio writes: "I started getting diarrhea during menopause. It would only be after lunch but it happened nearly everyday for a couple of years. I tried eliminating dairy, wheat, fructose, splenda and anything else I thought might be the problem but nothing changed. I tried every home remedy too. Finally I came across a book that said calcium stops chronic diarrhea. I had already been taking calcium but apparently if your calcium has a high dose of magnesium in it, it will only make the problem worse.

When I started taking pills with 600mg of calcium and only 50mg of magnesium it was an answer to my prayers. After the first full day of taking this I have not been bothered with this ailment since. I just make sure that I have one tablet with breakfast and one with lunch and that seems to be sufficient for my situation. I know you're not allowed to say brand names but to make it easy for people what I took was Caltrate 600-D Plus."

[YEA]  10/05/2006: Shannon from Kansas City, MO writes: "I have suffered from chronic diarrhea for sixteen years due to having Crohn's disease. I read on your site about using cayenne pepper for this. I went to GNC and bought cayenne pepper capsules and it is working great. I am concerned though that this may cause ulcers? Also, I have a colonoscopy scheduled soon and the bottle says to stop taking two weeks before surgery. I am wondering if that would apply to my procedure as well. I also wonder why I should stop taking it before surgery."

I made two slices before bed on the fifth night and went to bed. The next morning I didn't feel gas in my abdomen anymore. Then I put approximately one teaspoon of cinnamon in my oatmeal. By that night I was feeling 100% better."
07/09/2010: Matthew from N. Las Vegas, Nevada replies: "I have had steady diarrhea for two weeks now. I became concerned when I woke up with a mess in my bed! I take alot of vitamins and herbs and thought that might be it. I stopped them all two days ago and no better. I found this site and was looking for something around the house I could use. I tried a tsp of cinnamon on two pieces of toast each with some sugar. That was over an hour ago and the pressure in my lower stomach is gone and I don't currently feel a "pressing need" to run to the toilet! Thanks! I'll keep doing this and see how it goes!"

He was throwing up and using the bathroom around every 5-10 minutes. It was to the point where he had nothing left to expell but water and bile. I finally convinced him to drink a tea mix I made. I used- 1 cinnamon stick, broken up with a scissor a big pinch of ground ginger pinch of ground mustard a pinch of ground cloves (or 2 whole) I let it steep from boiling to drinkable temperature. He started getting better almost instantaneously. It stopped not only the diarrhea, but also the throwing up and the incredible pain. I never saw anything work so fast!"

CLAY

YEA

[YEA]  12/01/2008: Kjell from Los Angeles, CA writes: "Diarrhea Remedies: Use of calcium montmorillonite clay, especially with silver nitrate can be a very good way to resolve the bacteria, and bowel irritation and help absorb extra fluids to form a more consistent stool. Use a premium, food-grade product that is made in the USA."

Replies
[YEA]  10/19/2009: Siafulinux from Savannah, Georgia replies: "Just wanted to agree with using clay for diarrhea. After getting a severe case of gastroenteritis one year that kept me on a couch for a week, I vowed never to get it again. After doing some research clay, activated charcoal and olive leaf extract became my line of defense.

I always keep Bentonite Clay on hand, along with some pills containing a mix of clay and charcoal from our local health food store."
10/19/2009: Robert Henry from Ten Mile, Tn Usa replies: "I agree, and have found that a once a day shake containing 2 teaspoons of Psyllium, 1 teaspoon of flax meal, 1/2 teaspoon of Bentonite Clay,1 teaspoon of Inulin and 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper is enough fiber to keep my stool firm and my bowels regular. Two things we need to take care of is our bowels and our liver. Those are priority # 1.

The inulin feeds your good bowel flora. The cayenne make it all work more better. The clay is an electrolyte which cause it all to flock as it passes through, giving you bulk. It you are a wine maker, you know this is the way you clarify your wine.

I am also in the process of making a green walnut tincture and a poke berry tincture here in East Tn. This is my first attempt at this chore. Naturally, I'm using white lightening from a moonshine friend of mine. That's the way we are here in the ridges. Just glad the auto was invented before my time least I would have had to marry a cousin up the hollar."
12/24/2010: Siafulinux from Savannah, Georgia, Usa replies: "Just wanted to give a quick update to using clay for diarrhea. I am still using it, but found a simple way of drinking clay in it's powdered form as apposed to using the pills. I mix a half a cup to a full cup of milk, a half a teaspoon of blackstrap molasses, two or three level teaspoons of sugar (just to sweeten) and 3 or 4 teaspoons of clay or more. I put all this into one of those metallic "water bottles" and shake! Normally clay sticks a lot and is hard to get mixed well; you end up with clumps that's not a lot of fun. Doing it the way above mixes it evenly and it's just like drinking a milk shake; a dark, cloudy, evil looking milk shake, but a milk shake none the less. The taste is pretty good too. Works well for me! :-)"

Then I remembered that my mother use to give my brother diarrhea whenever he got it. I started to eat it at night before bed time, and it works. No more diarrhea in the morning. Cream of Wheat takes up water, and that is no doubt why it works. If you have it all day, eat it as often as necessary."

CREAM OF WHEAT CEREAL, CINNAMON

Ratings:

YEA

[YEA]  03/27/2009: Elaine Garcia from Chicago, IL USA writes: "Searching Earth Clinic for something to halt my diarrhea this guy said his mom recommended Cream of Wheat. It would absorb the extra moisture. Then I read about cinnamon as a cure and read about various ways to use it. I decided to combine the two remedies and I make a serving of cream of wheat and I covered it in cinnamon; I probably used 2-3 tsp. I love cream of wheat, so it was painless to scoff this down. It has been 25 minutes. Before I took the remedy I was in the bathroom every 15 minutes or so and my stomach was rumbling so loudly; I never heard it sound so awful!! Now, 25 minutes later there is an occasional low sounding rumble and so far I have not run to the bathroom...no urgency!!

This remedy makes sense; absorbing the excess water causing the diarrhea, and the cinnamon has amazing healing qualities. It was used in the "old days" as a diarrhea/upset stomach remedy, an anti viral/fungal and it helps to treat UTI. I can not contest to these as I have not proven the results. But as for the UTI, that is how I got the diarrhea in the first place. My doctor put on one antibiotic that I was allergic to and then changed the medicine. My stomach was all out of wack and UTI is not gone~! I will keep taking the cinnamon and report that back later. My stomach is calmed down, I do not have cramping and rumbling. No bathroom trips in more than an hour. I am going to bed to get some sleep. And bravo to earth clinic for being there ONCE AGAIN in a middle of the night emergency. I love this website; advice you can rely on (take what you want and leave the rest). Sweet Dreams...Elaine in Chicago."

[YEA]  08/25/2008: Suzanne from Abbotsford, BC writes: "Curing diarrhea is so simple! Just do a clear liquid diet for 24 hours and you'll be fine again. No weird ingredients, no doses to take, just drink clear juices or broths and NO FOOD for 24 hours. My mother used to recommend sipping a rehydration solution of 1 pint water to 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 teaspoon salt, stirred, but I can't say that I have noticed anything wonderful about that."

Replies
08/25/2008: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hi Suzanne, Agree with you on the treatment but suggest sticking with clear juices and water or tea. Can't recommend anyone to drink broths because most all the broths or bulloin used to make your own are laden with that neurotoxin or excitotoxin monosodium glutmate. Also advise staying away from any diet drinks because of another neurotoxin (aspartame) in them."
03/10/2010: Suzanne from Abbotsford, Bc replies: "Oh yes. PLEASE stay away from diet drinks of any kind! Homemade broth isn't hard to make. I have also discovered that I can eat rice, so I don't have to starve for 24 hours!"

IODINE FOR DIARRHEA -- BULGARIAN REMEDY

Ratings:

YEA

[YEA]  12/13/2007: Anna from Beijing, CN writes: "I am Bulgarian, living in China at present. As a child, whenever I had diarrhoea, my grandma would give me a few drops of iodine in half a glass of water to drink. It would halt the problem within hours. When my son was 10 months old, he had a severe diarrhoea and after trying a few medicines, the elderly doctor suggested the same remedy for him - 2 drops in some water. The next day he was healthy again. As a school administrator in Beijing I got almost sued by a Finnish mother for administering the remedy to her 8 year old daughter on a trip. There was a bus, full of kids, going to another city 5 hours away and, even though I knew in many countries it was forbidden to take iodine orally, I didn't have a choice. The bus didn't have to stop anywhere on the road and the girl was fine. I have talked with doctors about it and they said that if taken rarely, it's not doing harm. In Bulgaria generations have been treated in this way and I never travel (especially to another country) without my little black bottle. For chool children the dose is 4-5 drops in water and for adults - 5 to 8. Sometimes adults need to repeat on the next day, if the problem persists."

Thanks for sharing. EarthClinic is becoming my fav site for home remedies. Appreciate lots."
