The first time I thought was just a fluke but now I am think that there is something in that water. If you are able to please help, Thanks"

10/02/2008: Amy from Cincinnati, Ohio writes: "I have been giving my kids 1/4-1/8 tsp Tumeric in honey, once daily, heated for chronic allergies for about a week. Is this an appropriate dosage? I opted to put it in honey instead of milk because that is how they like it best. Does this make a difference? When do most people start seeing an improvement in their allergies?"

1 QUESTION
[QUESTION] 02/18/2009: Lori from Orlando, FL writes: "Recently my 2 year old daughter has started developing small boils/abscess that resemble insect bites with a purulent center on her lower abdomen. They dont bust or drain, but they get red and painful to touch. Our diet has changed recently due to moving, unable to cook healthy meals. We drink alkalized water, level 3. I cant seem to get her to drink ACV for obvious reasons. I've been increasing the probiotics in her milk/juice and she takes fish oil gel capsules daily. I don't want to start her on antibiotics. I'm going to start cleaning the bumbs with ACV, maybe a ACV soaked cotton ball and band aid. I know turmeric works well for MRSA/boils but that is impossible to get into a 2 year old. How else can I get her alkaline and fight these boils?"
02/18/2009: Ian from Franklin, TN replies: "I also have a 2 year old daughter. To get her to drink ACV, I measure a 1/2 teaspoon into her 8 ounce milk cup at the start of the day (more than that amount is noticed by her). Once all of the milk with ACV is drunk, then I serve her regular whole milk for the rest of the day. This was the only way I could get her to ingest it for her breathing and sinus ailments. When needed, I use the mixture 5 days on and 2 days off."
02/19/2009: Ruma from Calcutta, India replies: "Turmeric is a hard one to like. It is sometimes mixed with liberal amounts of honey just to get kids to swallow the stuff. But, then again, the turmeric we use in India for medicinal purposes is always fresh, never powder, so I am not sure how the powder would mix with the honey. I have seen fresh turmeric in some shops in the US, but I am sure it will be difficult to track down."
02/19/2009: Sandra from Taylor, MI replies: "Hi, you could perhaps try adding a little bit of vinegar to some apple juice to disguise the taste ( I would try adding a little bit of baking soda to some ACV, allowing it to react for about 5 minutes and then adding it to some good quality apple juice, with no high-fructose syrup, etc), also you can add turmeric to your child's diet by using it in the foods you cook, for instance, you can add a little bit of turmeric to sauteed onions and then use the seasoned onions to make a soup or any other dish. Another thing would be adding a little bit of coconut oil to make fruit smoothies (just blend some milk with a banana and the oil), etc."
02/19/2009: Lori from Orlando, FL replies: "Sandra- Thank you for the tip. I can definately sneak the ACV into some apple juice. I completely forgot about VCO, I can mix that into her yogurt. I started applying ACV to the boils last night. They seemed a bit smaller this morning. Last night I encouraged (more like enforced) her to drink about 2 oz of ACV/baking soda in alkalized water. We shared the glass. I also use turmeric in my cooking, I just dont believe a teaspoon of turmeric in my meals will make a difference. I will remain hopeful and appreciate everyone's input."
02/19/2009: Lori from Orlando, FL replies: "Ruma- Thank you for your response. I give my daughter a babyspoonful of raw honey about two times a day (breakfast and bedtime). I could try mixing a little turmeric into it, however I'm afraid it might discourage her from taking it the next time. It's already somewhat of a struggle to get her to swallow it as is, she is getting better at it because it is our routine. I will definately give it a try."
[YEA] 01/09/2010: Paa from Fremont, Ca replies: "My daughter had a staph infection as well. 2 rounds of antibiotics did not help. We used a cosmetic cream with 90% turmeric in sandalwood oil base (found in the Indian grocery store, or online) applied topically helped a lot, especially if caught early on the life of the boil. I also give turmeric in warm milk, masked with a tsp of molasses."

09/20/2008: Jacquie from Tacoma, WA writes: "Tumeric for eczema. My little 6 month old granddaughter was born with a red spot between her eyebrows and when she laughs or cries it puffs up. A couple of months ago, the area started to look raised and crusty. Then she started scratching it and it would bleed and this became a cycle. The doctor put her on internal and external antibiotics which cleared up the area. But a week later it started to come back. Then she started to get breakouts around the mouth, noes and one side of the face. When the spots start to clear up, it leaves the area around it white. My daughter is concerned. She took her to the doctor yesterday and was given another antibiotic ointment to use on her face. My daughter has taken her to the doctor several times and has been told the baby could have MERSA (she did not), impetigo, strep, or eczema. I am believing that this child is going to be healed and whole. I want to know whether the turmeric could be used on her face and specifically on the area between her eyebrows. Thank you."
09/21/2008: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "To Jacquie from Tacoma: Sounds like your little granddaughter might have MRSA (methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus) which she would have probably picked up in the nursery at the hospital. Whether she has it or not, anything that will kill MRSA will probably kill a lot of other things also. My line of thought is that external application of turmeric is safer than one round of antibiotics after another, and all their unwanted side effects. You might try mixing 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. of turmeric in a couple ounces of distilled water and swabbing the areas involved 3 to 4 times a day to see if it improves. Using it this way should prevent getting any in her eyes, which is one place you don't want it. Another way of using it on a baby, might be to mix it with a little A & D ointment and applying it sparingly to the affected areas. Hang in there, Grandmother, because I also believe this little one is going to be cured."
11/24/2008: Tammany from Elkridge, MD replies: "Have you also looked at the baby wash and lotion products you are using? Unfortunately the FDA does not regulate our cosmetics and they are loaded with mineral oil and animal by products that our skin can not break down.
Mineral oil or petrolatum in products acts like plastic wrap and prevents our largest organ- our skin- from breathing. It then traps the bacteria and then you see the eczema and other skin conditions.
Look at the Arbonne baby products or other natural products - and google the ingedients - you will be amazed at the level of carcinogenic ingredients in our skin care."

[YEA] 09/06/2008: Paa from Fremont, CA writes: "Hi,
I wanted to share a remedy that worked really well on my baby's excema. When it oozes, vicco turmeric (found in any Indian store, it's a turmeric paste in a sandalwood oil base - no other ingredients) works wonders. I just tried it by chance one day and now everytime her excema flares up that's all I use. It's doesn't moisturize well but cures the oozing & flare up really fast so I use it in combination with Burts Bees baby moisturizer.

USE GLASS BOTTLES FOR ACID REFLUX
[YEA] 09/10/2009: Lori from Dallas, Tx writes: "Using glass bottles to cure infants' acid reflux.
Through personal experience that was followed up with educating other new moms and having them try the same remedy, we think that acid reflux in many infants is being caused by plastic baby bottles.
There has been controversy regarding BPA of course. But even with BPA-free bottles, chemicals are still leaching into the milk, even when the bottle is new and even when the bottle has not been heated (one of the bullet points of what not to do with plastic).
Instead of repeating the details here, here is the link for the entire story regarding my granddaughter's horrible spitting up problem: http://bottleswottles.com/babyacidreflux.html and the link to a followup: http://bottleswottles.com/Story-AJ.html.
Since that time, we have been trying to accomplish a couple of things. Primarily, we would like to determine if indeed this could be true. That acid reflux in many infants could be cured by using glass instead of plastic. To do that, we need to get the word out and get testimonials back to show that we aren't unique... that this is indeed a problem.
Might you have any data on this already? If not, do you have recommendations on how we might go about accomplishing this goal?
Now, you can see from the link above that my daughter, as a result of her quest, started a business. If people use glass bottles, they will need to protect them and that is what Bottle Swottles are. But that is not my point here. I know your site will not promote or sell any products. That's not what I'm trying to accomplish.
I'm trying to figure out how to determine if we are on the right track. We think we are. We've seen it several times. Although we hear from moms that it works, we often don't get a written story from them about it. And that's what we think we need -- many testimonials before anyone will take an interest in this idea. Even my granddaughter's own pediatrician (who we normally are in agreement with) thinks we are unique, that this solution is not common. Therefore, she continues to prescribe acid reflux medicine to her patients instead of providing them with this simple alternative. If we had 30 stories from mom who remedied their baby's acid reflux just by discontinuing plastic bottles, doctors, the media, Oprah would be more likely to take an interest. This could be an amazingly simple and cheap and healthy solution. All we need to do is get the word out. But we're just a couple of moms and have no way to do that. We need help.
Please contact me if you have any suggestions or recommendations or data or research or links to other sites that could help us further this cause.
Thank you very much!!!
Lori"

[QUESTION] 12/13/2009: Jae from Baltimore, Md writes: "urinary tract infection in toddler
I am in need of advice asap. My 1.5 yr old daughter has had a runny nose for a couple of days two days ago i noticed her urine smells awful when i change her. Today she woke up with fever and is very uncomfortable,it appears as though it hurts when she urinates. i have had a uti so i know that is a symptom, i have been giving her echinachae and kefir. any other suggestions i dont want her in pain but i know the drs will just put her on antibiotic. pls help."
12/13/2009: Dott from Fort Lauderdale,, Florida, Usa replies: "For a toddler, I would go with cranberry juice cocktail. She will love the taste and the cranberry will start alevating her pain quickly. She can drink a 1/2 cup or more, 3 times a day and I would keep it up for a minimum of 3 days, probably up to a week."
12/15/2009: Bea from La, Ca replies: "You can help a lot by having her sitting in a bowl of water with couples drops of Lugol's solution and baking soda (4 Tb spoons per gallon of water) as long as she can stand, 15 minutes would be ideal. It is very safe and does the work. You can read a book for her while she is sitting and no sugars in the diet until it goes into remission."

09/06/2009: Susan from Maricopa, Az , USA writes: "I'm sorry if I'm doing this incorrectly. But I'm looking for some advice. I have a 3 year old daughter with multiple health issues. She is 100% G-tube fed and has GERD, neuropathic motility disorder, metabolic disorder which is believed to be mitochondrial disease. She was just recently in the hospital yet again because of vomiting, weeks of vomiting. She is on multiple meds for reflux and motility, yet she was pretty packed up on view of a KUB, though she was having BM's daily. She hasn't thrown up now in three days but the last two days she has been complaining and crying and then drinking water. she says it's her throat and I believe it's her reflux and acid coming back up. Now again, she doesn't eat by mouth and her diet consists of an elemental formula with Rice Cerealto thicken. She does receive a lot of meds. Everything is given through her tube.
I was searching for something else that we could try to give her for what I am guessing is the acid travelling back up to her throat and why she cries, drinks some water (which is thickened too - and she can't drink anything else or she will vomit) and I see information on ACV.. Any help on how to give her that? Would I do straight ACV, how much would I put down her tube? How often would one suggest? Anyone foresee it being a problem? I have her on a pribiotic every day already and then she is on two different reflux meds as well as mito "cocktails" and motility meds. I'm afraid she is getting backed up again? And why we are having more reflux issues? They have reduced her bolus feeds to a lower volume and more times during the day, but I'm seeing the beginnings of where we were a few weeks ago... she also has many bouts of hiccup episodes. Anyway, I just thought I would ask, I didn't see anything in the other questions like our situation, I may have missed however so again I apologize. Thank you. Susan"

08/30/2009: Kathy from Punxsutawney, Pa replies: "Gastric and esophogeal irritation can be caused by fluoride in "cavity preventing" toothpastes, so if your child uses fluoride toothpaste, make sure that he/she is not swallowing any, or better yet, get fluoride toothpaste out of the child's life altogether.
p.s. Fluoride is also present in food or drink products made in processing plants located in cities that fluoridate their water. Gastric and epigastric (esophogeal) pain and irritation is one of the early signs of fluoride toxicity."

08/24/2009: Alyson from Plano, Tx, Usa writes: "I have a question: My now 5 year old daughter has had a whitehead-like rash on her arms and legs only is she was very small, with a few patches on her cheeksthat developed over the last year. It has never been itchy or inflammed, although it can get dry if Im not using a natural lotion on her. I took her to a pediatric dermatologist a few years ago and she was diagnosed with pediatric dermatitis. The doctor said it would probably go away when she reached puberty. But she has now started kindergarten and is starting to get a little self-conscious about it. Any suggestions on what I could do?"
08/24/2009: T from Baltimore, Md, USA replies: "Hi Alyson,
Could it possibly be keratosis pilaris? Google for some images of that. It's quite common. If you do suspect it could actually be KP, this looks to be a pretty comprehensive site:
http://www.keratosispilaris.orgI suspect my son had KP as he always had bumps on the backs of his upper arms. He's pretty clear now after dietary changes and adding some supplements, including fish oil (we weren't actually trying to treat the bumps; the clearing was really a "side effect" of the healthy changes we were making). I noticed the same benefit for the bumps on my legs, which I now also suspect are/were KP. The only thing that had helped my bumps at all before the dietary changes was a lactic acid lotion, but it was pricey and didn't entirely eliminate them. I've read that products with urea can also help. At the risk of offending the squeamish, I believe you can get the same benefit by applying her fresh urine to the affected spots. I guess you'd leave it on for awhile and then rinse.
Check if KP fits your daughter's symptoms and see what those folks say about helping children with it. Good luck, and please do update us!"
08/25/2009: Kyra from Cortlandt Manor, Ny, Usa replies: "It could possibly be Molluscum Contagiosum."

[YEA] 03/11/2010: Caroline from Alexandria, Va writes: "Sunlight, Cleaning, Drying, Zinc Oxide against yeast
My five-yr old son had a yeast infection on the tip of his penis. The doctor wanted me to use Nyastatin, an anti-fungal. Instead, we bathed him. Used perfume-free soap. Dried the area well. Put some calendula gel on--don't know if that was necessary but I thought it would reduce the irritation--he stopped complaining that it hurt. Kept him in the sun (yeast gets killed by sun light.) The redness halved by the afternoon. That night, we cleaned the area again. Used a blow drier to really dry the area (yeast needs moisture)--tip from our fabulous pediatrician. Then used some zinc oxide (I used the expensive organic stuff.) The infection disappeared overnight. About 2 days later, he has developed a sore throat. So, his infection was a signal that his immune system was down. Wish that my attempts to put the children to bed earlier were successful. Will redouble my efforts."

[QUESTION] 05/19/2009: Helena from Nashville, TN writes: "Please help! I'm reading everything I can find on how to cure my baby's yeast rash. I've tried ACV baths and coconut oil so far with no results. Am taking baking soda and citric acid mixture, plus ACV, plus coconut oil internally to try to get a hold on the yeast in case I'm passing it to him, but I've got to deal with his external problem. He's scratching like crazy. Can I put a H202 solution on him? Won't it burn his skin? Should I use baking soda? If so, how much? The rash is over 70% of his body. Thank you!"
05/20/2009: DJ from Pdx, Or replies: "Perhaps try liquid acidophilus. Slather him up like you would calamine lotion. Maybe even put some in a bottle with the formula. Or the meleluka website has a baby product I believe. Good luck"
05/20/2009: Anon from Anonymous, USA replies: "From Wonderful Earth Clinic some readers have had a good response to healing rashes with coconut oil. Also, would MSM lotion work for your sweet baby?
"Candida is yeast that normally lives in the colon. If body pH is in check, Candida cannot live outside the colon. Women sometimes get Candida yeast infections. When the doctor prescribes an antibiotic, taking the antibiotic causes an imbalance in the body's pH and greatly reduces Lactobacillus acidophilus. This promotes spreading of Candida, resulting in an infection. Upon return to the doctor, more antibiotics are prescribed resulting in an ongoing cycle of infection. The infection spreads to the mouth evidenced by the white coating typically seen on the tongue - this is called thrush. It can even get into the brain. When this happens, the term for this infection is changed to epilepsy. In the blood, Candida will rob the nutrition and energy from the body, causing a so-called 'incurable disease', commonly called chronic fatigue. When the body burns energy it produces toxins. If toxins are not properly removed, the result is the 'incurable disease'. MSM can facilitate in the body's ability to combat this infection."

[YEA] 06/05/2008: Alisa from Dublin, Ireland writes: "My 3 week old baby has suffered terribly with nappy rash and most things I've tried have only irritated it as they are too harsh for his sensitive skin. However I tried, only as of last night, Coconut Oil, and after only 3 applications his rash has all but disappeared! This is great stuff and I am delighted. I presume then that my little boy had thrush (Candida) perhaps on his poor tush?! Anyway, I will continue to use this as it works so well, smells gorgeous and is also a fabulous body moisturiser! I hope this helps someone out there. Good luck."

OR THE SAME MIXTURE WITH A COTTON SWAB. WHEN YOU APPLY, DO SO ON A 1/2" SECTION TO SEE WHAT REACTION. I JUST GOT OVER A YEAST INFECTION, I HAVE CANDIDA AND THE MIXTURE WAS A GODSEND.
