CLOGGED TEAR DUCT
03/05/2010: Phil from Dearing, Ga writes: "I have just found out today, that a 6 MOUNTH OLD BABY GIRL will have to have surgery for a CLOGGED TEAR DUCT in April. Doctor said infection could spread or blindness could occur if surgery was not preformed. I believe the baby's weight to 12 to 15 pounds. There is no other name that has been given by the doctor. ( He just says clogged tear duct )
So I am believing this to be some kind of infections, since the doctor said it can spread...
Ted or anyone have any natural remedies for this???
I believe the mother has massaged the eye and put warm cloths on it. None of this has helped."
03/07/2010: Cb from Blaricum, Netherlands replies: "Hi, You can try to put Castor oil on the eyes, another remedy is green teabags on the eye (probably green tea on a cloth will be ok). Regards, CB"
03/07/2010: Janice from Coloma, Mi replies: "My son had clogged tear ducts when he was a baby. I had to massage the side of his nose by his eyes and mucus would come out. Then I would have to put an ointment in them. The Dr. said he would wait until he was five months old but if it hadn't opened up by then he would have to open them up (lance them open somehow). I found an herbal recipe, mixed it up and put it in one eye. The following day I was so worried because his eye (underneath) was all red and it was even red down into his cheek. The following day, it was as clear as a bell and so I did the other eye and the same thing happened. After that, they were fine. The next trip to the Dr.s office, he was happy that they had finally cleared up. I didn't tell him what I did. I will look up the recipe and post it as soon as I find it."
03/07/2010: Rosie from La, Ca replies: "I know someone who had to get a this surgery a couple of times, and the third time it happened someone told her to massage her tear ducts. Her tear ducts no longer get clogged. Simply put your thumb and index finder on either side of your nose and gently massage the tear ducts (press/release, circles). You will easily feel them. Try it on yourself before deciding to try it on the baby."
03/08/2010: Tricia from Ireland replies: "It's always worrying when a small child has anything wrong. I had this done as an adult many years ago. I don't mean to be dismissive but the GP probobly shouldn't have called it surgery. That makes the procedure sound much worse than it actually is. The Doc will put eyedrops in to deaden and and dilate the tear vessels. A baby may need more anaesthesia to stop them from wriggling and moving. Then a saline solutuion is washed through using a syringe. Took less than 5 min. Afterwards I drove home (Bout a 100 mile) without any problems.I had the clogged tear duct for close on a year after having an operation near my eye without any infection setting in. My doc kept saying that infection shouldn't be a problem as the eye is self cleaning. My main problem was that because the natural liquid in the eye couldn't flow the the tear duct, one eye kept "crying".
However if there is mucous building up that can become infected and if massage doesn't work - this is not a procedure that anyone should be afraid of. I didn't even have a bandage."
03/08/2010: Piper from Toronto, On Canada replies: "My daughter had this several times. A woman suggested breast milk, which I had and I did put in her eyes and she never had the problem again. She claimed breast milk cured just about everything."
03/08/2010: Lisa from Thousand Oaks, Ca, Usa replies: "When my first son was a newborn (he's now 25) he had a clogged tear duct and my midwife told me to squirt some breast milk in his eye and gently massage. Worked like a charm. Breast milk is magical!"
03/18/2010: Olga from Miami, Florida replies: "My lil one had the same problem, some day would get better, some day he couldn't even open his eyes from the night until I can clean it up with tea. Doctor said if by 1 birthday it wouldn't clear up, than surgery would be needed and that it is very common. We used prescribed antibiotic baby eye drops (prevent infection)Second time around don't think would use them. And as was mentioned before massaging the very corner of the eye (where the duct) but still about every hour eyes needed to be cleaned with chamomile or black tea. About week after his first birthdays everything disappeared. So listen to your gut and Good Luck!"
05/01/2010: Rebecca from Clayton, Il replies: "My infant son had a clogged tear duct and his eye was constantly irritated. The pediatrician gave me some drops. I used them, but they didn't clear his eye up. I talked to my grandmother (a mother of 9 children) and she told me to put breast milk in his eye and massage the tear duct. Within a couple of days it was cleared up! The day after I talked to my grandmother, I was discussing my son with my friend from Russia, and she suggested the same thing my grandmother had. It really works!"
11/05/2010: Erin from Sandy, Ut replies: "Ditto on the use of breastmilk to clear up the clogged tear ducts or conjunctivitis. I've used it on 3 of my babies and it's worked within a couple days on all three. Just squeeze some into the clogged eye each time you breastfeed. If you don't breastfeed, you can either try to get your hands on some breastmilk and use it, or you can try putting a drop of black tea in each eye, which doesn't sting. My sister-in-law didn't try this and just did the drops the doctor prescribed and her child had the clogged ducts until she was over a year old, and then ended up getting surgery to correct it. It was miserable. You can also try ACV diluted in water, but that stings. Good luck."
12/27/2010: Plexguard from Brooklyn, Ny replies: "Janice from Coloma, Mi, My father is going to have surgery soon for his clogged tear duct. Can you please tell me the recipes so I can give it to him before he has surgery."
12/28/2010: Janice from Coloma, Mi replies: "I am happy to give you the recipe for the eye wash. I used it myself about a month ago. I thought I had something in my eye. The eye doc said it was a mild bacterial infection and gave me some anti-biotic eye drops. Instead of using the anti-biotics I mixed up some of the eye wash. The recipe calls for a teaspoon of Goldenseal. I used one tea bag of Goldenseal instead. Other than that, I followed the directions and it did the trick. I hope it works for your Dad.Here is the recipe.
EYE WASH
BACK TO EDEN/JETHRO KLOSS
GOLDEN SEAL IS EXCELLENT FOR THE EYES. THE FOLLOWING IS THE WAY THE WRITER USES IT FOR HIS EYES: STEEP A SMALL TEASPOONFUL OF GOLDEN SEAL AND ONE OF BORIC ACID IN A PINT OF BOILING WATER, STIR THOROUGHLY, LET COOL, AND POUR LIQUID OFF. PUT A TABLESPOONFUL OF THIS LIQUID IN A HALF CUP OF WATER. BATHE THE EYES WITH THIS, USING AN EYE CUP, OR DROP IT IN WITH AN EYE DROPPER. IF THE EYELIDS ARE GRANULATED OR THERE IS FILM OVER THE EYES, ADD ONE TEASPOONFUL BURNT ALUM POWDER. IF YOU USE IT A LITTLE TOO STRONG, THERE IS NO HARM DONE; IT WILL ONLY SMART A LITTLE. COLDS AND FLU

[QUESTION] 10/18/2009: Atlantis from Spokane, Wa, USA writes: "My son is 13 months old. His mother was diagnosed 4 weeks ago with a sinus infection. She then developed a pretty nasty cough. 3 weeks later, still the same. Then I get sick. I have the same cough, headaches and sinus pain and fever. Mom gets all these symptoms as well, plus sore throat and red spots on the throat, swollen glands. The doctor tells us he thinks we have the flu. The next day our son gets a cough and then a fever.
We are first time parents and I have never been too hip to American medicine. I just found this site today and I am super excited!! I am excited to do the H2O2 remedies and Apple cider vinegar...and prob a bunch of others.
Bottom line is my son has been sleeping and running a high fever.... Doctors pretty much tell us we have to wait it out... I think mom is going to have an anxiety attack worrying about our little boy.
There is a lot of good information on here for flu symptoms but nothing is specific for babies.........
I am in need of some specific things to do for a 13 month old.
Thank you so very much!!!!"
10/19/2009: Lisa from Thousand Oaks, Ca, usa replies: "I know being a first time parent can be an anxious time. You mention that you have never been too hip on American medicine so I'm not sure if you are perhaps, European. If so, you are maybe familiar with Rudolf Steiner who founded anthroposophy. He has many wonderful and gentle treatments for young children (adults, too but you specifically asked for a young child) that I used when my kids were very young. One of the companies is called Weleda so you may even be familiar with it since it is in all health food/natural stores. If you google Steiner medicine or anthroposophical medicine, you will find lots of help. I know it helped ease my anxiety as a young mom.
Speaking of anxiety, you may also want to consider Bach flower remedies. Rescue remedy is a powerful remedy and we always keep it on hand in our home. If you are not familiar with them then google them and learn about them because they are gentle but effective.
Also, if you do like alternative ways you can have a look at Mothering magazine which was started back in the mid 70's. I found it very comforting and helpful throughout my older kids baby/ toddler/ youth years. I learned so much from that magazine and often it was a jumping point to learn more on a subject. It helped me make some big decisions as well that didn't necessarily fit into mainstream American mindset i.e., family bed, vaccinations, homeschool, etc. Of course, back in the early 80's a lot of these ideas were just being pioneered here in the US. Now, at least there are more people open to these ideas. Anyway, I hope this info can help ease the two of you. Lisa"
10/19/2009: Atlantis from Spokane, Wa, USA replies: "Hey! Thanks for the response. The info looks great. Steiner looks interesting. I googled him along with anthroposophical medicine. A lot of information but I could not find any remedies for babies.
I do use Bach products and yes, they are incredible! My mom gave me a Bach bottle 7 years ago for anxiety. Its great!
If you know of a site or some actual remedies to do for my son that would be great!
Thank you very much!"

[YEA] 03/26/2009: Dina from Toronto, Ontario writes: "Hi, Cradle cap and even baby acne for my son was cured in about a week. I used Colloidal Silver to cure the acne, it's gentle enough to even put in a babies eyes, so this is fine. I even gave him a few drops in his mouth usually every day, he was not sick until 7 months old when a doc told me to stop using it. Anyway, I used a cotton ball to apply the silver (or clean fingers), then put Pure Extra Virgin Coconut Oil on his dry/acne skin. Within a week or so it was gone! My baby had acne even on his earlobes..."

CONGESTION/COUGH REMEDIES
01/12/2011: Hb from Hampton Roads, Va, Usa writes: "Congestion/Cough remedy for Infant
Our 9 month old daughter is congested and has a cough that sounds like she is trying to expel mucous. She gets this every so often thanks to daycare and it seems like antibiotics her doctor prescribes don't really fix the problem. Are there any natural remedies I can use with her? I hate pumping her full of medicine. Many thanks!"
Replies01/12/2011: Aurora from Mason City, Iowa replies: "Hi Hb, when my daugther was five months old she got the congestion and what seemed like a very bad cough for such a young baby, so I took her to the doctor (in Mexico) thanfuly the Dr. was an old school Dr.He adviced me to make a strong mint tea, which I could only find dry and set a pot of the very hot steaming te on the floor, Put the baby on my lap face down above the pot (please be very careful)and let her breath the steam I did this at night and nothing happen, but the next morning she sneesed and a whole glob of mucus came out. I think I did it one more time just to be sure everything was going to be out.
Hope this is a help and don't give babies antiboiotics if you can help it. Sincerly Aurora"
01/13/2011: George from Melbourne, Vic replies: "I would try ACV. It has worked for me. 2 teaspoons in a glass of water with one teaspoon of honey. Do this 3 times a day."
01/13/2011: Lita209 from Sanford, Fl, Usa replies: "I would not give honey to an infant."
01/13/2011: Bailey from Denver, Co replies: "Never give honey to infants younger than 1 year. Honey is a known source of bacterial spores that produce the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. This bacterium makes a toxin that can cause infant botulism. This rare but serious form of food poisoning affects a baby's nervous system and can result in death. Unlike adults, infants haven't developed beneficial bacteria in their digestive tracts that can control botulism spores and prevent growth of the bacterium and production of its toxin.

CONSTIPATION

[YEA] 08/12/2010: Tina from Flint, Mi, United States writes: "Constipation in babies 1 month and over
I just wanted to let you all with infants and babies to know that if your child is constipated to give him or her a warm bath ~ in the sink is good so that you can have the child in it from the midsection down in the warm water. You need to add nothing to the water, just have it warm and keep the child happy and comfortable for oh a minimal of like 15 mins to like 25mins. And the warm water will loosen their bowels naturally.. Then watch out because you will have a sink or bath tub to clean... But a very content child afterwords. I have found this to work every time my daughters and now our grandchild has this issue. Alot of the time it's due to too much iron in their formula and not enough water through the day.. Hope this will help even one distressed parent dealing with these kind of issues.. Because when baby's not happy ~ no one in the house is happy. PEACE!"

10/02/2009: Rachel from Anna, Tx, USA writes: "Help with baby constipation
Please help- I have a nine month old girl at home with a chronic constipation problem for the last 6 months. If I let her go on her own she may have a BM once or twice a week and they are very painful for her to pass and very large. The doctors are not much help and I've done everything they have suggested with little change and even that only temporary.
I have tried the following: baby laxative consisting of magnesium citrate, changing formulas (from Enfamil lipil to Enfamil gentle ease-helped for about 3 weeks, earths best organic, and a couple of others), raw milk from Jersey cows, omega 3 supplement, probiotic, fresh fruit including peaches, pears, apples, apple juice, pears juice at least 4-5 oz a day which worked for 2 days then stopped working I stopped giving it to her because I feel that is too much juice, fresh blended spinach, Epsom salt baths, massage with almond oil and lavender essential oil, q-tip with Vaseline,
thermometer with Vaseline both inserted to stimulate a movement, steamed broccoli, raw garlic, dark corn syrup, concord grape juice diluted, aloe vera juice and now against what I believe to be nutritious soy formula. I give her liquid suppositories to make her go but she is now holding her BM in because it is so painful for her. I am trying enemas to help but she tenses up before I can insert them and I don't want to hurt her. Please if anyone knows of something I have missed please tell me.
I don't know what else to do for her. She's had an X-Ray which came back normal- nothing keeping her from having a BM. Also she only began having this problem when I began supplementing her with formula when I wasn't producing enough milk. While she was on breast milk she had no issues. But when I went back to work I slowly lost my supply and since then she has had this problem.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated."
Replies10/03/2009: Merryanne from Orange City, Florida, USA replies: "To Rachel with the constpated baby: Read the material in EC about magnesium, and you will have to get the baby to drink more fluids, and fruit for fiber, or make your on nutrious smothie and use the flavors the baby likes...I hope this helps. Merryanne"
10/03/2009: Tricia from Ireland replies: "I first noticed my newborns poop problems in hospital but the nurse told me that she was having a reaction to the baby wipes we were using and to use cotton wool and water. Oh, foolish me. I went home thinking she would be fine. Anyway the problems got worse (is every new mother REALLY that apprehensive as they kept telling us?). All we got was a prescription for permanent laxatives. Eventually a very kind doctor rightly guessed that her back passage was slightly too small for her body. There is no way of testing to prove if he is actually right. This may not be the reason for your child's constipation but his advice at the time was to give her prune juice. Now she was only 10/12 weeks old at this stage so we had to water it down to 1 oz prune juice to 3 oz water and she had to take this in 1 oz lots in between her bottles (my milk didn't kick in). Her feed also has to be changed to a softer formula with pre-biotics added. We learned the hard way that we should have started this early in the morning rather than at night. We walked the floors with her for 12 hours. It took 3 days to work and the first day of pooping was pure liquid and projectile. Oh, and also foul smelling.By the time she was your baby's age, we administered the prunejuice in 4 oz lots 2 times per day still watered down so that it is only 2 oz of prune juice and there was a BM every day. If we missed one it didn't matter. If we were away and missed 2 it did. When solids were introduced we had to wait longer to introduce proteins and starches. Her diet was mainly fruit and vegetable, no potatoes or rice or meat till much later thn the norm.
We also kept her on her bottles to guarantee her intake of liquids for longer than usual. We had no problems with toilet training.
At the ripe old age of four she has now started school and because the teachers don't check to see if they eating and drinking their lunches and breaks, we are having a few problems again but at least she is old enough to tell us what is happening her or when the pain is building up so that we can do somthing about it.
My main problems with the prune juice were personal. In a babies bottle it looks like coca cola. People would take the bottle away from me and throw it in the bin before I could explain. They were usually interfering busybodies who loved their own voices so much I couldn't get a word in edgeways. Having to get that extra liquid into her made her less hungry so getting enough solids into her to keep her asleep all night took extra time. And travelling abroad we would have to make up extra to drink in front of security at the airports and make sure that we could get the brand that worked for her wherever we were going or bring loads of it with us.
You have my sympathies. Yor post has brought back all my feelings of frustration and I am even shaking as I type this."
10/04/2009: Rachel from Anna, Tx, USA replies: "To Merryanne and Tricia- Thank you so much for such a quick response and support. I have tried the magnesium citrate and it didnt work. I cant imagine why it didnt. And giving her prune juice didnt either but prune baby food works occasionally if I give her a warm bath right afterward. Which is why I tried so many other things, I also give her water daily. I wondered if she had a milk allergy but the soy milk had no effect on her either. I recently started giving her flaxseed oil in with her milk and this seems to be working, at least for now. Most of what I have tried has come from this site so I thank you EC for having such a wonderful site with so much great information. I am always here looking for natural remedies for all of my family."
10/06/2009: Merryanne from Orange City, Fl replies: "To Rachel,,, Good luck with the constipation problem,,keep trying different things, different foods, juices, high fiber,,low fiber. But good hydration is essential, and exercise is important, or massage might help,, Merryanne"
01/21/2010: Susan from Ohio, Illinois replies: "My daughter experienced similar problems. We tried everything the doctors told us to. With no positive results. Several months and several biopseys they recommended surgical modification. I revolted at that idea. We refused to follow this path. My daughter was found later to have dairy allergies. At this time the leche insisted my daughter could not be allergic to breast milk. We switched to soy. Still stooping was painful and impossible. Around this time a complete stranger told me her daughter suffered this way until she put barley cereal into her bottle. Truth be told she started pooping freely. Once the concrete was passed. By this time we had to manually stimulate her movements bc her sphincters were not working properly. To this day we remember how horrible this episode was and thank the good fortune of the barley cereal"
[YEA] 04/24/2011: Hermes from Princeton, Nj replies: "Hello, dear worried mothers. Have you tried taking your babies to a chiropractor? I did take her when she was 6-month-old after I had tried everything - more liquids, prune juice, thermometer in the rectum, etc. - and just happened to mention of my desperation to the chiropractor I normally see. He did some gentle manipulation of her legs and upper body over a few sessions. The results came in a few days when her bowel movements started to normalize and became more regular. I know that there are plenty of options but if you have tried them all, you may consider this too. It may be a subluxation that is causing it all of a sudden."

[YEA] 01/05/2012: Spikey58 from Peterborough, Ontario, Canada writes: "Hi, My husband's grandmother was changing my daughter's diaper yrs ago and she had at that time a severe diaper rash. Told her how I have tried many things but it seem to be getting a lot worse. She took some white flour and browned it up slowly in a pan and told me to sprinkle in on her bottom everytime I changed her diaper and by morning it was damn near gone. I was shocked. Have used this many time for my grandchildren and it works like a charm. Hope someone can find this useful."

07/21/2009: Sumeysh from Mumbai, India replies: "BRAT diet is ok... but if if its too severe .. perhaps your baby needs a different antibiotic like ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin ...pps ask your doc regarding this ...i personally used BRAT plus curd set at home using low fat milk (unsweetened)..it helps...you can also use mashed boiled potatoes (skinned)....with a pinch of salt"
07/25/2009: Dianne from Tampa, FL replies: "My toddler had a really bad recurring case of a stomach virus we had all picked up, but gotten over. I tried all the typical things that had ALWAYS worked in the past...colloidal silver, slippery elm, oil of oegano, with no results. My chiropractor told me to give him hydrated bentonite (you'll find it at the health food store). I gave him one tablespoon before bed and one in the morning and his diarrhea completely disappeared. This also worked for a friend who was going to admit her toddler into the hopital for diarrhea with the same results. When I researched it on the internet, I found that Bentonite as a cure for diarrhea has a 96% success rate."
12/24/2011: Julie from Toronto, Ontario, Canada replies: "Two thumbs up for BENTONITE! My 21 mos. old had diarrhea for 8 days, had lost over 1 kg, and nothing was helping (meds, doctors, etc. ). Finally I found this posting about bentonite. Within 8 hours of taking it, he had solid poops again! Unbelievable. I gave him 1 Tbsp of bentonite in about 10 oz of diluted apple juice; and I did this twice in one day. Thank you so much for this information."

EAR INFECTIONS
01/23/2010: Jam from Windsor, Wi writes: "Ice Chips for Ear Infection?
Recently went to the Dr. - my 3 YO complaining of ear pain. Dr. said that if a child has inner ear pain/ear infection, to take small ice chips and let them slide down the ear canal, and this alleviates pain. I think it sounds a bit "off" to me... has anyone ever heard of this?"
Replies09/27/2010: Ag from Toronto, On replies: "Oh my goodness, I would never recommend this! Water in the ear is what the bacteria grows in, and once the ice is melted, what is it? WATER! No way! That does not sound smart at all. My son had 2 ear infections. The first one was so bad that the swelling was in the bone and it was causing his ears to protrude. For the second one (he was just under 2 years old) I eliminated all sugar from his diet (no fruits, no juice, no honey) as well as glutens and dairy. I added a tiny bit of ACV to his sippy cup throughout the day, and put a tiny bit of Colloidal Silver into his sippy cup of water at night. I bought an organic ear oil (main ingredients: olive oil, garlic, and oregano) and swabbed his ear with it 2 or 3 times a day. 10 days later at the checkup, his pediatrician said "Ooh, looks like the antibiotics worked" and I told her we never took the antibiotics! That we were just vigilant with watching him and were under the supervision of a naturopath. She wasn't pleased about us not having taken the drugs, but she was happy the infection was gone."

12/22/2011: Pm from Vic, Aus writes: "Hi,
Our daughter was born with dry skin and we have always maintained a good diet with my wife occasionally having meat however our daughter had an outbreak of eczema and we have been trying everything to help alleviate the itching as well as attempting to overcome it. We have pretty much gone raw and although it hasn't completely disappeared it has certainly helped however it keeps recurring. We have cut out all fruits as we think it may be sugar related, take no wheat or any other form of flour, we bathe her in water with neem, baking soda and turmeric, ensure that the surroundings are as cool as possible and always make sure she is wearing clothes made out of cotton.
We also apply neem oil with a base of sesame seed oil and turmeric and this seems to be helping although we don't know what is causing the eczema to flare up. Both my wife and I take probiotics, magnesium, sacha inchi (for protein) and plenty of vitamin c from amla. We have the dehumidifier running round the clock as the property we are residing at has very high level of humidity. We also use detergent that has next to no chemicals and include baking soda as well when washing. Is there something we are missing as we are no closer to finding the root of the cause? Can someone please help as we are at our wits end?"
12/22/2011: Liz from Boston, Massachusetts replies: "My teenage daughter's eczema all but disappeared with the addition of yogurt to her diet, and fish oil supplements.I hope that the combination works as well for your daughter, should you decide to try it."

Margarine, vegetable oils are the main culprits- rather start using coconut oil for cooking & hopefully the problem will be solved. Because her elimination system is overwhelmed, the junk is being eliminated via the skin."

Soy, all nuts, peas, cantalope and is basically allergic to every tree, grass and animal. She suffers from very bad eczema and the hives come and go and keep her up all night. We have tried every antihistime out there, she lives on benadryl and she has had several courses of predenisone. We are currently giving her 2 tsp of allegra twice a day and benadryl as needed.
Dermatologists have prescribed all kinds of topical steroids which have now become ineffective. She does not sleep well because she is so itchy and she scratches till she is bleeding all over. She goes to the chiropractor once a week and I am looking into acupunture as well. I just had a hair analysis done on her to figure what what her body may be deficient in. I am seeking anything that can help relieve her. Upon reading all the various posts, I am going to look into getting her tested for a histamine intolerance. I need help please.... Medical doctors just want to keep trying various drugs. They all make her sleepy and moody. None get rid of the eczema or the hives permanently. She is miserable and I am exhausted!"

[SIDE EFFECTS] 10/02/2011: Eastrawinata from Seattle, Wa, Usa writes: "My 7 months has been suffering eczema on her face and hands, and we are reluctant on putting steroids on her face. We stumbled upon VCO and applied it on her face 2 days ago, but it looks like it is making her eczema worse. Is this normal after applying vco? Some say that this is the VCO at work: worse then better, but is it? How long should I keep using VCO on my daughter? Anybody have this experience? Thanks much!"
Replies10/03/2011: Liz from Boston, Massachusetts replies: "Eczema heals from the inside, out. After much trial and error, I found a combination that totally cured my 18 year old daughter's eczema - yogurt and fish oil. While I know that getting fish oil into a seven month old is next to impossible, getting yogurt into them isn't. If you feed them a yogurt every day, you will notice a *huge* difference in less than a week.
My daughter suffered with eczema for her entire life and no doctor, specialist or medication ever made it go away. She was always loaded with inflamed and scabbed areas all over her arms, legs and occasionally, her face. Her skin is now as smooth as a baby's thanks to the yogurt and fish oil combination. (She has only one container of yogurt per day, and a fish oil capsule in the morning and before bed.)
We still can't believe the amazing results. Truly miraculous."

10/02/2011: Jackie from Pace, Fl writes: "Searching the great world wide web for answers. My grandson is 2 and has been to the ER 4 times this week. His eczema has been getting worse for the past 2 weeks and has caused skin infection on his body from head to toe. He started antibiotic last Sat which is just making him very ill and has changed antibiotics. His itching is now so severe- he can't get any rest much less sleep- he literally wants to rip his skin off (in fact did tonight). He now has ulcers in his mouth and is just a big scab red/raw skin everywhere from his itching.
After 9 hours in the ER last night- we were told they don't know what to do. He is back on steroids which are not doing anything yet. He also has used the strongest steroid cream, an adult does of benadry, zyrtec, and they other stuff (hydroxy - I think) and cream. Still nothing is working with the itch. After reading, I am thinking of doing a diluted ACV bath followed by coconut oil."
Replies10/03/2011: Mmsg from Somewhere, Europe replies: "Check what he is eating. You might get a clue there."
10/03/2011: Jen from Bozeman, Mt, Us replies: "I agree you should take a look at his food. Is he eating any gluten/dairy/nuts/eggs. Remove any or all of those from his diet immediately. See how he does without them. Take him off the hydrocortisone cream. It is not good for little ones let alone big people. I lived on the stuff when I was his age on up to about 10 years old. I have adrenal failure now and my skin is permanently destroyed from over using it and it doesn't even help the problem. It has been proven to thin the skin out permanantly. The steroids as well are the same thing. They are filling him full of cortisol and other hormones which are messing up the balance in his body. You need to start from the beginning and look at his enviroment and what he is ingesting. The four things I mentioned above are the usual culprits but it could be anything. I have an eczema break out on my face if I eat mango. It never fails either and it took me 32 years to figure it out. I also have psoriosis and I figured that one out as well. The skin breakouts are usally diet related though your doctor will tell you it is not likely. I am proof the doctors are not always right. The mango allergy does not show up on allergy tests but when I eat it no matter how much I will get the same breakout. It starts slowly on my chin and if I keep eating mango I will have it take over my lower face and neck. It happened every year around the same time of year and that's how I figured it out. I only buy mango's when they are cheap which is spring time-ish when they must be abundant. That is when the rash would come. I stopped eating mango's 4 years ago and have not had a break out since. I wish you and the little guy luck. It is a terrible disorder to deal with especially when you are so young."
10/03/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Jackie, if you look at the ailments sections on earthclinic under exzema you will see a lot of people have had great results with bathing in sea/salt water. If you can't get to the water try some unrefined sea salt in his bath.I also agree with others who have suggested probiotics and yoghurt. I would also try a digestive enzyme. The problem stems from a digestive issue. I would not use the steroid creams at all.
Keep him off processed baby foods, make them fresh as all baby foods have added MSG and other additives in them.
Is he being breast fed? If so your daughter needs to also take probiotics and clean up her diet."
10/03/2011: Jessica from Chicago, Il replies: "2 tablespoons of HEMP OIL every day! Also, cut out all whites (bread/starch/dairy/sugar) Apply Collodial Silver topical gel 6x a day. No steriod cream use or anything containing Propylene Glycol/parabens/ethanol...avoid S&S Johnson Products, cortisone creams, etc!!!!! )"

09/22/2011: Jacky from Dayton, Oh writes: "One may try a product from Utah called Tahitian noni juice. The one from the Utah based company is the only one I recomend because I witnessed the results with my suffering grandchild. Born with a severe case of eczema you will tear up at the site of him. After taking this Taihitian noni in some apple juice daily once a day in three weeks sores were healing! We were giving nothing that would help cure him or the itching. My grandson found a miracle in a bottle, he has beautiful healthy skin. We were told the scars would never heal on his body and today you can't find a scar."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] Cyndee from Newport News, Va writes: "I am in complete shock. My daughter is 5 years old, and has had eczema since birth - extremely severe eczema over 95% of her body. We have tried absolutely everything, from prescription creams, OTC lotions, oatmeal, antihistamines, ACV, Baking Soda, etc etc. Any parent that has a child with eczema has undoubtably tried all the same remedies. I stumbled on this website and read about Epsom Salts. We started giving her a bath every night in the salts - 1 cup for a half full tub. She soaks for about 10 minutes, then out of the tub and gets slathered with a heavy lotion. After 1 week I am flabbergasted - her eczema is so much better, her skin is absolutely clear in most places, and only the worst scabby parts remain. ( We also used Iodine on the really bad infected spots for a couple of days). I don't know why or how it works, but it does! I am one relieved and happy mommy...and she is a much happier child. She actually has an appointment with a specialist in 4 days, and I won't have anything to show the doctor!"

EGG WHITES FOR DIAPER RASH

[YEA] 10/05/2009: Kathryn from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia writes: "A few months ago my littlest (then under 1) burnt his hand on the oven glass door. The recommendation of applying egg white from this site worked wonders. The pain subsided immediately after application. Anyway, about a month ago, and again, just a couple of days ago, my littlest (now 18 months) suffered a very red, raised skin rash in the nappy region. It was clear it was painful, as he cried and whinced whilst holding him on my hip. I remembered the relief the egg white had on the pain of his hand burn, so I thought, "why not?" I assumed he was experiencing a painful, burning sensation; something in his urine. I painted egg white on his bum with a small brush, and the pain relief was instant. Within 24 hours, the redness had subsided significantly. Lovely!!"
