GERD REMEDIES

1 BETTER BUT NOT CURED

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  02/19/2009: Amy from Highland Park, IL writes: "My son has had GERD since birth, along with it came asthma, seasonal allergies, indoor allergies and food allergies. Our son takes quercitin--natural bioflavonoid, it has been a God send! however, it never stopped his GERD.. He drinks 4 oz of water every day 3 times a day as well. He also takes prevacid adult dose of 15 mg and it is not right to do this to a child with an adult dosage.. Please respond"

HEADACHES IN CHILDREN

1 QUESTION

[QUESTION]  07/20/2009: Sangeetha from Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands writes: "My 6 1/2 year old daughter has started getting headaches from the past 2 months. I took her to the GP who couldn't find the cause. She wears glasses and I have recently got it checkes and her power hasn't changed. I am not able to figure what could be the cause of it. I or my husband never got headaches when we were young (we don't get it even now). I only get headaches very rarely when I have skipped a meal or when I have been too much in the sun. I thought these could be the reasons for my daughter to get it too. But from the past 2 days, I have avoided that for her and she still got the headache. Sometimes shortly after she wakes up, she has a slight headache. When it is slight, she is able to do her normal routine, play with her friends, etc. The headache is not accompanied with any nausea, vomitting, etc. A couple times she has got fever after the headache, but it goes off with 1 or 2 doses of over the counter fever/pain medication.

She is a little bit heavier than she should be, so I have been taking her for running on a field. Sometimes I have noticed that as soon as I mention that we have to go to the field, she gets a headache. And I know she is not lying. Could it be tension headache? I have told her this week I will not take her for running, instead just short walks on the street around the house (which she loves as we get to talk about all she likes to talk). I am going to check out this week by not taking her for running and if it continues, take her to padetrician next week.

What else could be the cause of her headache? And what are possible remedies. I don't think she would drink ACV or Cayenne pepper."

07/21/2009: Bharti from Doha, Qatar replies: "you can use safely 2 drops of lavender aromatherapy oil mix in 2 drops of almond oil mix it properly and put in on forehead temples and rest for 5-10 minutes, it works like magic and also safe for children .its good for migraine pain also.try and reply me if it works for you."

12/07/2009: Tracy from San Augustine, Texas, Usa replies: "An often-missed cause of headaches can be chocolate, including chocolate milk. When I was younger, I worked at a bank with a young lady who would often drink a small carton of chocolate milk for her breakfast before we opened. She would get severe migraines & have to sit or lie down for awhile. I had read about chocolate being a possible cause & as soon as she stopped drinking chocolate milk, she quit getting migraines.

Caffeine withdrawal can also cause severe migraines. I've quit drinking sodas a few times in the last few years when I've found myself drinking too many & I have suffered migraines so severe that I can barely stay on my feet. Some of them lasted for days on end. They eventually stopped.

Within the last few years, I've found myself occasionally suffering from sinus problems, including congestion & infection, usually a result of being out in adverse weather (cold, drizzly, bone-chilling). I don't always get congested, but I do get severe migraines that hurt so bad my eyes hurt as well. Using some of the remedies for sinus problems on this website have helped me."

HONEY

2 YEA

[YEA]  08/15/2008: Joyce from Joelton, Tn writes: "To THeath from LA:

08/14/2008: THealth from Los Angeles, CA replies: "Hi, Even my daughter who is 21 months has food allergies. I am not sure whether I can give ACV or black strap molasses. I would really really appreciate if Ted can answer this. She is allergic to tree nuts, peanuts, wheat and soy. Is there any natural way in which i can eliminate her allergies. She had her entire face swollen when she ate some noodles. After reading the content i realized that it was made in a facility where they process peanuts and shell fish. I am really worried about her and am looking for some natural cure. She has mild eczema on her hands too. Ted, please help. Your reply will be much appreciated. Thanks."

At 2l months old you can give her l tsp. of honey once or twice a day, but be sure that the honey is produced within a 50 mile radius of where you live, so it will contain pollens in your local area. If this doesn't do the trick, Benadryl or its generic (diphenhydramine Hcl) is a usually safe antihistamine, available without prescription and found in most places that also sell vitamins, minerals and supplements. The generic is cheaper than brand name."

[YEA]  08/15/2008: THealth from Los Angeles, CA replies: "Hi Joyce,

I really appreciate your reply. Thanks a lot. Should I give honey to my daughter (21 months) everyday once or twice or whenever she has food allergy attack. Will honey cure my daughter's food allergies permanently . Should we give Benadrly everyday ? If we give benadrly everyday and her body gets used to it then what will happen when she gets food allergy attack (Swollen face ). Will her body respond in this case ?

She is allergic to all tree nuts, peanuts, wheat and soy. I am really worried about when she starts going to school or accidentally eats something from her friends in school which has any of the following things.

I would be really happy if honey can cure her food allergies. I will try to find anything produced within a 50 mile radius and am not sure if anything will be available in Los Angeles. How about some pure honey from wholefoods or some other organic stores?
Thanks again."

EC: Hi, THealth. Try one of the weekend farmer's markets in either Santa Monica, Venice, Beverly Hills or West Hollywood. I have bought locally-made honey at these markets many times before - yummy! Deirdre

08/16/2008: Joyce from Joelton, TN replies: "Hi, THealth:

I think the l tsp. of honey works by desensitizing to allergens, so give it daily, not just when you think she needs it.

To answer the question about the benadryl or diphenhydramine, food allergies are year round, not seasonal. So I'll answer with statements from the head of a pediatric department at a work shop I attended in l979. In his lecture, he said to never give benadryl during an acute asthma attack, but after you break the asthma attack, start them on benadryl and keep them on it. At the time of the lecture he stated that had children who had been on it continuously for 4 years (at that time) without problems."

09/30/2008: Angela from Tonasket, WA. replies: "I've heard about the honey comb being really good for temporary and possibly permenant curing of an allergen, but I know from experience that another way is a lot quicker, cheaper, and effective; It is called allergy elimination. It is a technique done by many different practitioners around. Refered to as NAET also. Look for a practitioner in your area by searching for NAET practitioners. My family had bad allergies, leading to "incurable" eating disorders. They were healed by this technique in only one treatment per allergy. . .and if you find a good practitioner, he'll do them all in one pop. Just a suggestion."

08/22/2008: Ritu from Wilmington, Delaware writes: "My 15 months old son was diagnosed with Imeptiago. He had 10days of sulfate antibiotic course . So now they gave clandymycin antibiotic..I wnat to try home remedies. i have applied turmeric powder on the infection and planning to give him turmeric in milk from tomorrow. I saw this on ur site.. Any other suggestions. Please help. URGENT"

12/29/2008: Sarah from Monrovia, CA USA replies: "to Ritu from Wilmington, Delaware: I tried coconut oil for my daughter's impetigo. it worked wonders. you can check this site for impetigo cure."

EC: http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/impetigo.html

03/26/2009: Dina from Toronto, Ontario replies: "Colloidal Silver is the answer! It is an amazing NATURAL antibiotic. There are many websites that speak of it's amazing properties. Don't believe the lies, they FDA doesn't want you to get it - it's CHEAP! They want you to spend money on their drugs. Anyway, remember that old saying "born with a silver spoon in his mouth" - silver was and is an amazing health promoting miracle."

IODINE FOR ECZEMA

1 YEA

[YEA]  11/27/2008: Lisa from Coto de Caza, Ca writes: "Paint on povidone iodine twice daily on eczema patches. Worked on my 3 year and it's cheaper than the prescription drugs. Don't use iodine tincture since it has alcohol and will sting...especially for young child who scratches the eczema until it bleeds. Since the iodine stains clothes, I put large bandaids over the areas on his legs and arms."

JOYCE'S REMEDIES FOR INFANTS

1 YEA

[YEA]  08/15/2008: Joyce from Joelton, Tn writes: "Response to AKR's post:

08/13/2008: AKR (akr@rungta.us) from Jersey City, New Jersey writes: "I am an avid fan of EarthClinic! I have a suggestion for a new Infant/kids health page.

Here's my motivation. I recenlty became a dad. Son is almost six months now. I have made a pledge to myself to keep myself as healthy as possible using all the knowledge from EarthClinic (and other sources). So, hopefully, I will never have to fall prey to a doctor and the traditional medical system again. I would like to do the same for my son. But I don't have much idea as to what you can do, or what you can feed an infant/child (aside from the obvious of course)to keep them super healthy, and build inpenetrable immunity.
For eg, is it a good idea to give them a few drops of black strap molasses or bee pollen starting at a certain age? Omega 3 oils? My son has some allergies, which I suspect is due to HiB vaccination he got right at birth. I was not knowledgeable enough at that time to refuse that vaccine, but have postponed his schedule for the rest after much research. So, again, I am wondering, if I can give my son a few drops of ACV starting at say nine months of age to help clear his allergies?

Many thx!
AKR"
Welcome to the world of being on call for that fine son 24/7/52 from his birth onward. Aren't babies wonderful. Such perfect little ones, although you can get awful tired of not getting enough sleep.
My name is Joyce & I'll try to answer some of your questions. First off, if he is having allergy problems, the most likely offender is milk. If he is still on milk, do an on-line search for "excitotoxins" and print out that long list of names they hide monosodium glutamate (MSG) under and when you go looking for a good substitute formula make sure it doesn't contain any MSG or aspartame, especially any hydrolyzed plant (corn, soy or other)protein as Blaylock says this is the most deadly form of MSG because it also contains aspartame (Nutri-sweet). These are two excitotoxins found in most every processed foods and are ones you want to protect your son from. If you can't find baby foods without them, table foods will probably be better (just throw some of what gets cooked in a blender & puree it for him.
You are going to find it isn't easy to avoid these two excitotoxins unless you cook from scratch, and even then you have to read labels carefully. For instance, Tyson chicken (raw) that you have to take home and cook, ingredients list says: "chicken and may contain up to l5% chicken broth. They didn't mention MSG, but the chicken broth is loaded with MSG. If you read the ingredients list on Perdue beef or chicken (raw) which advertises no artificial ingredients, you find chicken or beef: followed by natural flavors or natural flavoring (which are names MSG is hidden under in our foods.
I think you will find small amounts of black strap molasses won't harm your little one, but don't give him any honey until after he is one year old. His little system isn't built to handle that just yet. I would also hold off on the apple cider vinegar until he is a little older. When you do start apple cider vinegar, remember the adult dosage is usually l tsp. to l Tbsp. and he is much smaller and would take much less of it. After he is one year old, you will probably find that a teaspoon of honey per day will also help with those allergies. When I first heard this, I tried to figure out the rationale behind this. I finally concluded that the honey is doing the same thing that expensive shots for allergies do. That is why you also are told to be sure the honey is produced within a fifty mile radius of where you live: the bees collect the pollen within a fifty mile radius from the hives, which means you are desensitizing your little one to all the pollens within a 50 mile radius, which is the same thing those shots are given for: desensitization to pollens. I would also hold off on other bee products until he is at least l year old since honey presents a problem. I've never heard or read that they do, but it's a chance I wouldn't want to take. Please do not do what I see a lot of parents doing - letting their children have carbonated beverages instead of drinking water. None of them have any nutrition in them - just colored water, sugar and chemicals. You may never see it in print but all carbonated beverages are harmful to the kidneys. If I had known this when my children were little, I would never have let them have the first sip of any soda pop or carbonated beverages. Believe me when I tell you they are harmful, because I saw 4 children 4 to l0 years old, who were spilling protein (proteinuria) in their urine.
Remembering something I had read several years earlier in a medical journal, I asked about their carbonated beverage intake. All 4 of them drank them instead of water. Changing nothig except not letting them have anything to drink except milk, water, and fruit juice and checking them one week later, 3 or them were negative for proteinuria and the l0 yr. old who had the maximum level (4+ proteinuria) on first examination was down to a trace of proteinuria. Her mother said she had done without them until she got one on the way to the clinic that morning.
Oh, in case your little fellow lucked up and is being breast fed by his mother, tell Mom to stop drinking milk and see if his allergy problems decrease. It may sound silly but I was being sure to drink at least a quart of sweet milk per day when breast feeding my third child, and he is the one who had the worst problems, especially to milk. When I got him onto a soy formula, it was like having a totally different baby. For the first time ever, I woke a sleeping baby up to make sure he was alright, because he cried an awful lot and seldom slept longer than l hour. After that first bottle of Sobee, he slept for 13 hours which caused me to wake him up to make sure he was alright. He was- I guess he was just exhausted from all the misery while on the milk formula. Also what Mom eats or drinks gets into her milk that the baby gets.
Another thing to try to avoid is food coloring in any vitamins or minerals that you give your little ones. These can also cause problems. Kids love the Flintstone vitamins/minerals but all that food coloring, sugar and flavoring are totally unnecessary and may trigger allergies. One of my nurse co-workers little granddaughter (at the age of 5 yrs) was having one urinary tract infection after another. I told her that they should watch everything the child ate or drank, because something was triggering those infections. A few months later she greeted me with "We found it, we found it". My reply was I didn't know it was lost - what did you find? She then told me that getting rid of the Flintstones also got rid of her urinary tract infections.
Hope these answers are helpful. If not, just post your reply back and if I don't have the answer, I'll see if I can find the answers for you. I think you are already giving this little fellow the most important thing which is love.
"

LOW MUSCLE TONE

07/15/2009: Sandra from Toronto, Ontario Canada writes: "my daughter is 3 with low muscle tone. I was wondering if there is a good supplement that would help the low tone. She can sit well and stand with support but is not walking or talking."

07/20/2009: Kathy from Calgary, Alberta replies: "Dear Sandra, your baby might have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, an inherited disorder. Collagen in the body is more flexible than normal-not sick, just bendy! I have it and so do my 3 kids. Find a genetic clinic such as Medigen or Sick Kids, she will walk and talk and dance soon! Meanwhile good nutrition, gentle regular exercise and happy outlook help a lot! is anybody else bendy in your family?-also known as "loose-jointed""

08/02/2009: Vcanfield from San Antonio, Tx replies: "My daughter has a genetic disorder and in my research I found low muscle tone is very common in genetic disorders. Don't let it scare you though, genetic disorders are a lot more common than people think, many of them have few symptoms and do not affect a persons life very much. It is just something you might want to look into if it becomes a concern."

NAET

2 YEA

[YEA]  08/14/2008: Angela from Tonasket, WA writes: "With more and more children being effected with an inherited defective gene causing allergies, one would be led to think that their case is hopeless. Oh contrair. . .there is great hope. In my family there have been huge struggles with allergies as on one side is EE a food intolerance disorder like celiac disease, and the other side is celiac disease. Both are intolerances, which are no different than an exaggerated allergy. well, we've found a new alternative therapy called NAET that many chiropractors and accupuncturists are doing. It eliminates allergies! Permenantly! It's basically saved my daughter from malnutrition and even death. Please give it a try. They use a very effective allergy testing technique using your own or a suragate's muscles. So it is possible to test for offending foods even before the baby has tasted them! That's what I did, knowing allergies run in our families. Then we treated them shortly after that. I believe the immunity being strong will keep our kids healthy, and if we treat allergies that are bringing us down (whether known or unknown) that will go a long way in making healthy kids."

[YEA]  08/15/2008: THealth from Los Angeles, CA replies: "Hi Angela,

Thank you for your wonderful reply. I am glad that there is something which can cure food allergies. I am very very happy to know that NAET can cure food allergies permanently. I am so happy and am sure even other parents reading this reply from you that there is cure to food allergies. I want my daughter to eat everything and that too worry free. I am happy to know that it cured your daughter's allergy permanently. Hurray and that too naturally. I have few questions regarding this: Is this NAET ok to give it to my daughter who is 21 months old.
Can you please suggest any chiropractor who knows NAET (I know we don't mention any products and doctors on earthclinic.com).
I stay in Los Angeles, CA and am sure there will be some good chiropractor who knows NAET. You don't know how happy I am right now after you mentioned that there is cure to food allergies and that too permanently. I thank you for replying to my email and on behalf of all those parents who desperately are seeking some cure to food allergies.

Thanks a lot...."

08/16/2008: Grant from PV, Mexico replies: "Hi THealth,

I think the NAET Angela is referring to is in regards to a therapy, not a product. There are several muscle response techniques... Try googling Body Talk therapy for more information.

Good luck!"

08/16/2008: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "To Thealth from LA: Just researched NAET on line. It is not something you give, but accupressure applied at accupuncture points along the spine. Knowing it is based on accupressure, and having a healthy respect for accupressure), I think it just might work. To find the one in LA (may be Nambudripad, herself, who developed this technique looking to cure her own allergies) just google "NAET Practitioners" where you will asked to type in your zip code. There will also be a map you click on. I clicked on Tennessee and found 2 clinics in Knoxville, l in Whitehouse and l in Nashville. Good luck and keep us posted."

PACIFIERS AND RUINED TEETH

1 WARNING!

[WARNING!]  10/21/2009: D. from NY, NY, USA writes: "Dear Ted,

How are you? I hope very well. I am writing just to let you know a bad thing that happened to my son. He will be 2 on November 7th. I was so fool to give him a pacifier since birth. I was trusting what everybody else was doing and industries and doctors. How foolish of me! I don't trust them in anything! How could I trust them on this one! So I gave him the pacifier up to 4 days ago when I checked on the internet to see up to what age it is considered safe for the children's teeth to use the pacifier. Many websites were saying it is safe until 2 years of age, some say between 2 and 3 or 4. The site of Colgate, very honest people, says that it is safe until 6 years of age (safe for them and for the dentists not for the children). Then I found a few sites warning about the use of that dibolical object beyond 1 year of age. A site of an independent Japanese dentist said that if you keep using it up to 1 1/2 year chances of getting dental maloclusions is 30 %; if you keep it up to 2 years it is 60% , up to 3 years it is 100%. His was the only honest site I think. So I rushed to check my son's bite and it is completely spoiled. I hadn't noticed before but there is a huge gap between the upper and inferor teeth. When he closes his bite completely he can still stick most of the tongue out of the teeth! His mouth looks exactly as the picture of the pacifier damages shown in the Japanse site. I am horrified. And I have let this happen. Now it is too late. He will have a lot of trouble eating (which can potentially make the problem even worse as the face muscles try to adapt) and when his permanent teeth will come out he will have to wear braces for years. Thank you Avent, Gerber and so on. I couldn't find a warning abut this on Earthclinic and I think it would be a good idea to post my message to help mothers take wise decision. By the way I didn't give a pacifier to my older daughter and she has a perfect bite.

Got to run! Thank you!

D."

10/22/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Daniela:

I thought they did away with pacifiers since the late 1950s or early 1960s from a findings by dentists that it caused displaced teeth. I didn't know there is a comeback! I left U.S. in 1981 and thought the pacifier is no longer in use. In any case taking plenty of vitamin C and some magnesium will correct some of that damage. It must be noted that some of those may cause permanent damage. As to the experts, they get paid by the companies to say what the companies will like them to say. Check the documentary A Century of Self, which is a documentary of a Edward Bernays, a nephew of Sigmund Freud, who hires teams of scientist to say what the company want them to say to get people to believe. It's been done for about a hundred years now. It's called Public Relations, which according to Edward Bernay's himself, the guy who coined the word Public Relation, is actually propaganda.

Ted"

10/27/2009: D. from New York, NY replies: "Dear Ted,

Thank you so much for your answer. It is always great hearing from you! There is always something new to learn from you! I didn't know this Edward Bernay. I hate Sigmund Freud with all my heart! I can't believe his "philosophy" passed off as"science". The pacifier is strongly in use in the all the West. You see children use it up to 3 and 4 years of age. Virtually everybody uses it. The only exceptions are the children who actually refuse it despite the parents insistence. A friend of mine tried to tape it to the baby face! 3 is the average age children stop using it, by that time the damage affects nearly 100% of kids. They hook the children up in the hospital were they are born, and the doctor suggest putting them to sleep with a pacifier to avoid SIDS. The PR belief artfully widespread among people is that, sure, it affects teeth, but they are just the temporary teeth, not the definitive one. They don't understand that it is the shape of the palate that gets permanently distorted! After the first months the children grow so attached to it that it is a nightmare to wean them from their blinky. I feel so dumb for letting this happen. I can't believe I did it. Really! I was in a dream-like state about this particular thing. I guess this is what happens to people on so many health related things (and in all their "opinions"). They follow what everybody else does with a disconnected brain and a reassuring feeling of "normality". This happens also for the spiritual "diseases" of "civilization". I feel very guilty! I am already giving him vit. C. I will give more, and I will try to add magnesium, even if it will be difficult to make him drink it.

Thank you again. I will try to find the documentary. . .

Do you have any news about the Codex Alimentarius. I am very worried about it, but everything looks "silent". With much gratitude,

D."

10/27/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear D:

A good link is http://www.healthfreedomusa.org/ She's currently also on youtube and you may find her talks on Nutricide, that relates to this on youtube.

RASHES: MULTIPLE REMEDIES

1 YEA
1 WORKED TEMPORARILY

[YEA]  10/15/2009: Choob from Johannesburg, South Africa writes: "Toddlers Body Rash Cured

I'd just like to extend a overdue but heartfelt thanks to Ted and all the other folks who have listed their cures and remedies. After spending many sleepless nights looking for a cure for my Vegan toddlers' aggressive growing rash - i stumbled accross very helpful info at Earth Clinic from Ted's Bicarb and ACV drink (which i still take cause i like it and it seemed to work for my candida), the tumeric paste, VCO, acidophilus to omega deficiency. The rash disappeared within a week from her entire body and hasn't returned. Truth is i now use this website as my first reference, and have passed on the word to the parents with other toddlers. Thanks Ted for taking your time and sharing your remedies - your extra long emails are EXTREMELY USEFUL AND HELPFUL."

EC: Hi Choob,

Can you please be more specific about the remedies you used to cure your child's rash, i.e., recipes, quantities, dosages, how often? Thank you!

Has anyone been through something similar? We are going back to the pediatrician next week. We have the first available dermatologist appointment at the end of July. We have also tried homeopathic sulpher."

05/27/2009: Catherine from Seattle, WA replies: "response to Jack: I would not recommend giving a 4 year old MMS! Not sure about the DMSO either, that sounds way to strong."

03/05/2010: Kate from Abilene, Tx replies: "used on both my kids with great success within hours or overnight:

wash bottom with cetaphil lotion (lipid free soap substitute) and rinse. product will say rinsing is not necessary, but found works best for this if you do.

then, blow dry the bottom with a blow dryer on cool/warm until dry--less irritating on sensitive skin.

follow with Dr. Smith's ointment (sold in most stores in baby ointment section) it has thymol which is an antifungal."

[QUESTION]  06/24/2009: Carrie writes: "I'm not sure as to who I need to address this letter to or the correct email. Please if this is not the right address can you let me know.

I have an 11 year old boy. He has had a very hard life just trying to live. he was born at 31 weeks. He has undergone 2 major surgeries the first at age 3 and the last at age 7. All for CP. He can walk now and had brain injury in the learning center which is rerouteing as they told me it would as he got older. Problem being now, He cant stay well long enough to enjoy a month of the year. He's always been a sick child but over the past 6 years its got totally out of hand. They say he has asthma, GERD, Migraines, chronic sinus infections and chronic constipation. He has had 2 sinus surgeries that have not helped at all. He takes allergy shots every week. He is on an antibiotic at least once a month but they don't seem to help, only long enough for the next month to roll around and for him to be sick again. He is so sick of taking pill and I'm sick of giving them to him. Oh yeah forgot to tell you, his immune system is way down. They say his really low but not low enough to give immunogobblin. His doctor did put him on a low dose long term antibiotic to try and straighten his immune system which seems ever bizarre to me. Antibiotic suppress the immune system i thought. I'd don't know. I'm sick of meds given by doctors and ready to try some thing that God actually put on the earth for us sick humans.

Can you give me guidance as to where i need to start? I know the constipation has got to probably be the first with the gerd but how do u have a diet for an 11 year old to cleanse the colon? Then respiratory"

06/26/2009: DJ from Pdx, Or replies: "Hi Carrie,

I recently got completely off my allergy medicine. It does mean a few more pills but at least they are safe and no side effects.

I started with Serrepeptase - up to 9 capsules a day when my head was really full. You need to drink a lot of water with this enzyme. I next discovered a tincture, northwest allersode (for pollons and grasses in the PNW). The other enzyme that has made a huge difference is Bromaline. Almost immediate relief with this one. I have recently read in an old folk healing book from way back that local honey is the way to get rid of local allergies. 1 tsp a day for three years. But make sure it is local honey not the store bought brand.

ACV helps also.

Also since I have stopped my all meds I haven't had a migraine in 2 months. I am beginning to think that the allergy pills contributed an excessive amount to my migraine suffering.

For the Asthma try the H2O inhaling. I started this and have had really good results. I have read that a nebulizer works best for inhaling but I just use a nose sprayer. But you don't spray it up your nose to inhale it you actually inhale through your mouth. Just like with an asthma inhaler.

For the constipation stick to the old "apple a day" theory. Lots of fiber but at 11 yrs old he can think of it as a treat. It is possible all the medication is contributing or even the cause to this condition.

The most important thing to remember is that getting healthy takes time. Some times a lot of time but your son can get there. When you start a new regimen it is possible (probable really) that within a week he will feel like crap for a couple of days. Most likely his body is just getting rid of the bad stuff. Just keep an eye on him for those couple of days and communicate with him how he is feeling. I would say 3 months is a really good time period to judge what works and what doesn't and some things will take a shorter amount of time.

I hope something here is able to help you both to having a better life.

Good luck"

06/28/2009: Jane from Forth Worth, Texas replies: "I was looking through the recent posts on EC and one that stuck with me is about the 11 year old who has constipation and is on continuous antibiotics. His mother mentioned the constipation, which yes, must be alleviated. One thing that works for constipation in our home is to put castor oil on the body, topically. Sometimes we put it on the feet or hands or abdomen. It seems that within a few hours elimination is produced even if we were not using the castor oil for that purpose. So if this mom would put castor oil on her child, hopefully it will result in proper elimination for him.

I expect this has been mentioned on EC, but maybe the mom did not see it.

Jane"

07/01/2009: Pam from Huntsville, Alabama replies: "Hi, Carrie. I just saw your post and wanted to add my two cents. sounds like your son may have candida over growth and possibly leaky gut syndrome. This can be caused by too much antibiotic. with leaky gut, whole pieces of food can leak from the gut into the blood causing all kinds of allergies, amoung other problems. Please do some research on leaky gut and candida over growth. You asked how to get an 11 year old to follow a diet? You gotta trick them, same way I get my 5 and 8 year old boys to do it. The best things for him are nutrient dense foods, you can look up nutrient info on the whole foods website. Cutting out wheat products and processed foods is a good idea. Almost anything pre-packaged is full of gluten,to which I am highly sensitive. When I cut out gluten my Graves disease symptoms improved dramatically. Next no artifical colors or flavors,no sugar. We use stevia, recipes can be found on the web. Does he like lemonade? Try giving him the juice of one lemon in a cup of warm water with natural honey before breakfast . Its a good energy booster and aids digestion. Also trying a rotation diet is a good idea in case he is allergic to dairy, and some people are highly allergic to things like corn and oranges. A reverse osmosis water system is good and not expensive to buy or complicated to install. He needs pure water equal to about half his body weight in ounces every day. If you want to detox him start slowly with castor oil packs. Good rule is on the abdomine one day ,liver one day, kidney area next day, repeat and the stop for 3 days before starting again. Preassure point foot massage after soaking his feet in water and epsome salt for 20 minutes or so is a good way to get things flowing. If you are in a situation to do so, take him to a natureopath,at least for his bowels and allergy treatments. Last, follow your instincts. You are his Mom and know him better than anyone. Please also let us know how he is doing. Sorry the post is so long. if you need any info you cant find on line, or moral support, feel free to e-mail. Pam"

09/25/2009: Anna from Denham Springs, Louisiana replies: "Carrie what I have notice from a low immune system, asthma, and allergies (my son has suffered also and once school starts is home because he catches everything..We have just gone through swine flu and another viral infection...the best thing I have seen for the sinus, nasal passage, is saline. the saline solution you buy in the store I don't think is that good. this is a bit extreme but I have seen it work wonders. I had a salt water pool (inground). I used Morton salt tablets when needed to keep pool clean, etc. I didn't have problems with him getting sick all the time till we moved. but I do strongly believe saline does wonders, of course proper diet, etc.. I hope this helps..."

02/14/2010: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hello Carrie with the 11 year old with multiple problems,

Sounds like your young fellow has already had more than his share of sickness. First off, if his immune system hasn't improved, let's work on that. You didn't mention what kind of eater he is, but I hope you have taken him off all carbonated beverages, and from what I have been reading on some parents' experiences and their children's allergies to milk, maybe you should see if anyone in your area is selling raw milk -you know that stuff that someone with a cow is willing to sell you (however the powers that be want to keep it illegal, but when I see multiple parents (and some who survived childhood and found the same problems returned after adulthood & a return to store bought (processed milk), I have to believe that there is something to it. I also do not advocate juice drinks or punches, but suggest water, fruit juices, and local, unprocessed milk if you can find it.

With all the antibiotics your little guy has had, you are lucky if he has any of the good guys left in his intestines, so you may want to think about Probiotics to replenish them. You are also lucky if he doesn't have some systemic candida albicans running rampant in his system. You can find many suggestions on alternative sites, but you can also pull up literature on SSKI (potassium iodide) or Lugol's solution which is pretty close to the SSKI formula. If you have trouble finding someone to write a prescription for it, when I was looking up Lugol's solution there was one aquarium supply house that offered the l5% Lugol's solution which is the original solution strength. For instructions on using it, if you can't find it anywhere else type potassium iodide in search window and look for reference mentioning Tahoma Clinic, this article is from Dr. Jonathan Wright and can be printed out for handy reference in the future. He not only tells you what it is used for but how much to use for what purpose. Of course if your little guy is allergic to shellfish, he might have a crossover allergy to iodine (this contraindicates use of iodine preparations). The only other thing likely to occur is it can suppress the thyroid gland (read one source that recommends checking temperature daily for drop in body temperature which would indicate suppression of the thyroid). If this occurs, you just stop the SSKI or Lugol's solution and the thyroid bounces back, especially if you give him some B complex vitamins to help it along. Sometimes you can develop a rash from the iodine, but this also disappears when you stop taking it.

I don't know where you live but if you aren't familiar with those lovely plants most people call weeds and work hard to get rid of, assuming that you live somewhere in the USA and that everybody knows what dandelion is, and if dandelion is growing in your area, most likely a few other good weeds like clover, sheep sorrel, dock, pepper grass, wild onions, or you can throw in a few thoroughy washed greens like spinach, turnip greens and such (even a few broccoli heads would be very nutritious) into a blender with some distilled water and puree them. When gathering from the weeds, stay away from the roadsides (exhaust fumes) and make sure the area hasn't been treated with pesticides or weed killers. Just a handfull or two of a mixture of these weeds in a pint of water should make all he'll need in 1 day & you want to make it fresh daily. You can also pitch in some mint leaves for flavor and add some local honey or stevia to sweeten for him if he rebels against drinking his green smoothies.

I hope most of his sweets are fruits (light syrup if canned) but hopefully fresh - especially apples and grapes, pear, etc. If constipation remains a problem, remember that plums when dehydrated are called prunes, and prune juice is much better than laxatives.

Fortunately another supplement he can probably use is magnesium. You can use transdermal methods of bringing this up (see Deirdre's recommendation on EC for this one - she even gives you a good source, but his price has gone up (from $l9/14 lbs. a few months ago to almost double that). ECers must have been ordering a lot of it so I guess supply and demand has gone into effect with him. If you have any Dollar Trees in your area (or their equivalents) a 2 lb. box of epsom salts costs $l there, but still reasonable at Walgreens and Walmart & such. When I am tired & achy after a day of yard work I put about 1 lb of epsom salts in my bath water & soak luxurously. You sure do come out of that bath feeling revitalized, probably because you have absorbed some of the magnesium transdermally. IMVA (Dr. Sircus) has some excellent articles on magnesium and sodium, and a few other things our bodies need to function properly.

If you haven't picked up on apple cider vinegar/honey for coughs and respiratory infections, it works better than just about everything else I've used except for the H202 inhalation. You will also find that Dr. Sircus at IMVA also has an excellent article on giving sodium, magnesium, H202 by nebulizer, which probably means it would be safe to put it in a bedside nebulizer at night if you use one with him.

The above should get your little guy looking and feeling better soon, probably sooner than you expect him too. If you have any specific questions its ok for EC to share my e mail with you, and if I don't have the answer, we'll try to find them for you."

04/21/2009: Rose from Sao-Paulo, Brasil writes: "I had the same problem when my daughter was 4 years old. The doctor told us to give her baths in a tub with water and 1 Table spoon of baking soda, at least twice a day. She should stay in the bath as long as possible to make the baking soda work. We did that. After 2 weeks the problem was solved! This kind of rash happens usually to girls, after spending time on the beach, in the sand. Hope the solution works for you."

04/10/2009: Flora from New Orleans, LA writes: "my four year old girl has off and on red inside her vagina and around the anus. she is off dairy. we eat organic, only a little wheat. i don't know what is causing it, or what to do about it. i can't seem to tell what makes it worse. so far, the only thing that has eased it some has been applying coconut oil. but there must me more i can do. any suggestions would be deeply appreciated."

04/10/2009: Catlin from Austin, tx replies: "My daughter had a terrible red rash covering her private parts when she was little. She was eating more meat and her urine sitting in her diapers was to strong for her sensitive skin. If you daughter is still in diapers, start potty training; introduce her to panties right away. She could also be allergic to the soap you are using on her underwear or in her bath. If she isn't, make sure you keep your toilets (or her potty) clean particularly if other children or adults use it. Earth clinic is loaded with natural cleanser advice that can be of use to you. I would certainly take her to her pediatrician first to rule out yeast, fungus, candida, herpes. If she were my daughter I would put her on a tsp of virgin coconut oil daily. But first, see her pediatrician right away and make sure no one outside of you is touching her and your hands are clean before you do. God bless her."

04/10/2009: Megan from Westport, Ct replies: "Have you taken your child to a doctor to diagnose this? If not, I hope you do. The first thing that comes to mind is possible sexual abuse, but there may be other conditions that can cause this."

04/10/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Flora, I have several questions.. Has this child started having nightmares since the redness in her vagina & anal area started? Who has been watching or responsible for, or otherwise had access to this, child before you have noticed the redness? Has your daughter started acting scared of, or antagonistic toward someone that is close to her that she was fond of before the "off and on" redness started? This sounds like a nightmare that no parent wants to think about, but child molesting is more prevalent than we like to think it is and it usually is a family member or a very close friend of the family. Have you had her examined by a doctor when this redness appears? Ask your daughter if someone is hurting her? Please pull up information on symptoms of a child who is being sexually abused and see if it fits with your daughter. This information can be accessed on line. Just type "symptoms of child sexual abuse" in the search window. Since you only mention redness, not tearing or other tissue damage, is there a boy several years older than she is in the home, in a neighbors home, or a sitter's home?

P.S. Child sex abuse is more likely when the redness is only in vaginal/anal area. When the redness is pretty much all over the diaper area, try soda water wipes several times a day, but you might also think allergic reaction or contact dermatitis in this case. Baking soda cleansing should clear a candida infection and shouldn't hurt anything if it isn't. But I remember entering a small shop and the mother was changing her probably 6 months old daughter's diaper. Believe me when I say it looked "ouch raw". When I asked what she was doing for it, she told me that she had carried her to the doctor numemrous times but it kept coming back and at the present time she was using a diaper rash cream. After noticing that she was using commercial baby hygiene wipes, I inquired as to how long she had been using the wipes and if she had changed brands before the problem started. She had been using the same brand since birth. I suggested that she stop the wipes using only an all cotton wet wash cloth to clean her when changing diapers. Also suggested that she stop the diaper rash cream and use A&D ointment instead as it was more healing. After telling it might take a week or two to clear, it should start getting better quickly once she stopped the wipes if they were causing it. I then related a similar problem with my granddaughter and we used the same logical thinking & stopped the wipes, clearing the rash shortly. My daughter started trying a different wipe (don't remember for sure but think it was Walmart which was cheaper than the offending wipes were). Voila, no more problems!"

04/11/2009: Desiree from Chicago, IL replies: "I just wanted to share with you a remedy that was given to me from a herbalist when my daughter was still in diapers with the same problem. She told me to go to the store buy a garlic clove (can do organic one if preferred) cut into smaller pieces and boil it once cool get a cotton ball to clean the affected area. It may sting a little, but it will soon heal within a few days. That is what worked for us. Also try buying some organic vanilla yogurt (probiotic assistance) add 1/2 tsp of flaxseed oil along with her favorite cereal. It will help get rid of bad bacteria out of her system. Best Wishes to you both."

SALT WATER SOAKS

1 YEA

[YEA]  07/13/2009: Ness from San Antonio, Tx writes: "2 months ago, My 1 yr. old had gotten a yeast infection and it was sooo disgusting, with pus filled bubbles and everything. We did the athlete's foot creams, and only temporarily helped, soaked him in baking soda 3x a day and applying the cream after. Helped but doctor suggested a prescription cream, worked too, but a couple days later, it came back

We were headed to the coast that week and my father suggested to stick him in the salt water. My father said he would always get hurt with fishing hooks and stuff on deep sea fishing trips and such, but took a swim in the saltwater before coming home. I didn't want to, but while I was tanning, and daddy was swimming, neither of us noticed my father run off with him in the water. It didn't seem to hurt my son, so we pulled out a small pool for him and put a couple of buckets of salt water for him to play in. Later that night we took him a good bath and it seemed clearer and the next morning, the RASH WAS COMPLETELY GONE!! Hasn't comeback since.[this is like 3rd week]

I suggest taking a vakay, and sitting your child in a small pool of salt water, even with minor cuts and scrapes. I scraped my knee that day and it healed too after swimming. The salt water just cleans it all out, killing the infection, and cut, so it stays sterilized. Take a real good bath and check it out in the morning. I should have brought some home.. lol"

SKIN ALLERGIES

1 QUESTION

[QUESTION]  01/17/2010: Reeni from Jakarta, Indonesia writes: "My six year old daughter has had a problem since she was 2. She gets tiny red bumps all over her torso and even on her forehead and cheeks after she takes a bath. She gets very itchy for about 15 min. until her body is completely dry. We consulted a Dr. and he said It's because she is allergic to dust mites. in her case her body reacts to the allergy only when it comes in contact with water. I removed all the carpets, soft toys and washed her bed protector every now and then. Still every morning, after taking the bath she is frantically itching all over her body. I wonder what's wrong?"

01/18/2010: Sarah from San Diego, Ca replies: "Both of my kiddos have very sensitive skin and we had to eliminate all soaps and shampoos for a while. When they would "break out", I would use 1 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar in the bath and that started to clear it up.

What soap, if any, are you using??

We also found that Emu Oil (kind of pricey) works the best to clear up many skin conditions. My son suffers from excema, and Emu oil is the only thing that cleared it up. (And I tried Extra virgin coconut oil, Vitamin E oil, tea tree oil..)

Hope that helps. :)"
