CARROT JUICE

3 YEA

[YEA]  01/08/2009: Sarah from LA, CA writes: "I had tried everything as a teenager to get rid of acne and finally took accutane for a couple months and it totally worked and changed my life. I have since been trying to find a natural alternative to recommend to friends. Recently my facialist told me that her great grandmother in Finland or something had a cure that worked (probably for the same reason that accutane- a very strong form of vitamin A- worked). The remedy is this: Eat and drink nothing but fresh carrot juice for 3 straight days... acne will be GONE. wondering if anyone has heard of this before?

Also- this is just cosmetic... but have always used hydrocortisone and Visine to dab on a freshly-picked zit. the Visine constricts blood vessels to take away redness and the hydrocortisone cream dramatically decreases swelling almost immediately."

CASTOR AND OLIVE OILS

1 YEA

[YEA]  06/30/2010: Lisa from Marathon, Fl writes: "I have been using 20% Castor oil with 80% All Natural Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil for acne. That is the mixture for normal skin. Oily skin: use 30% Castor and 70% Olive oil. Dry skin: 10% Castor and 90% Olive oil. Before I take a shower, (no soap at all and a dry face) I put less than a .25 cent size on the palm of my hand rub together to warm and massage into face (or even on an incoming pimple anywhere on the body). Warm a facecloth with very warm water and place over (opens pores) do this a couple of times. Use hot (don't burn yourself, silly) water on the same cloth and wipe away. My skin has never looked so clear and clean. I have been doing this for about a month. Pimples/blemishes disappear quickly. Your skin will lose it's dryness/oiliness naturally and return to normal. The oils DO NOT clog pores, they clean naturally and will remove makeup also. ENJOY!"

CASTOR OIL

1 NAY

[YEA]  06/23/2009: glegs1992 from Weatherford, Texas writes: "I have struggled with acne for years and finally (at 42 year old) found a solution - castor oil! I found the cure on this website. I put about a quarter sized dollop in my palm then rub into my face. Let sit for 2 or 3 minutes, then take a hot wash cloth and lay it on my face for about 30 seconds. I repeat that 2 times and after the final time "steaming" with the washcloth, I scrub my face with the washclooth. I follow up with a cotton ball soaked in ACV or hydrogen peroxide then finally an oil free moisturizer. Hope it works for ya'll!"

[NAY]  06/23/2009: Tussy from Clinton, Iowa replies: "Hi glegs I wanted to know how long befor you saw results because I tried this before with no results. Also did it work for blackheads and whiteheads?"

06/24/2009: glegs1992 from Weatherford, Texas replies: "Hi Tussy! It took a week or 2 to get results because initially it pulls everything out. Once I got past that point, I saw improvement. I mainly get the cystic acne and it works great on it. Also, I started taking Turmeric and that seems to help! Good luck!"

[YEA]  11/08/2008: Carolyn from Northwest, OH writes: "My husband has been plagued with blackheads. I just looked past them, of course but he couldn't. Pore strips were painful and didn't get all the pores clean cause the gunk was in too deep. I did a little research and found that blackheads are oxidized (rancid) oil in the pore and will not be washed out no matter how much scrubbing with soap you do. You must dissolve the oil in the pore with oil! Castor oil works best. Here's what you do:

Smear a thin layer of castor oil onto the nose/blackhead plagued area right before you take a shower. Use nice hot water to steam the pores. Exfoliate as much as you can with a washcloth or body poof towards the end of the shower.

It will take several applications to dissolve the blackheads. After they are gone, it is easy to keep pores clean by repeating the castor oil treatment regularly to dissolve any oil before it turns rancid. My husband's nose looks clean and healthy now!"

CAYENNE PEPPER AND ALOE VERA

1 YEA

[YEA]  05/16/2008: Vinny from Atlanta, GA writes: "Not only does Cayenne Pepper & Aloe Vera prevent hair loss and help in it's growth, it also SUBSTANTIALLY diminishes and/or gets rid of acne where ever it is applied. I would suggest not to use the household cooking spice (if you can help it) only because I believe the Cayenne Pepper tablets are much stronger. I mix Cayenne with Aloe Vera and put it on my face and after application, I get more Cayenne Pepper to mix it in just to make sure there is enough C.P Be cautious that it does not go in your eyes as it will burn! In fact, after application, it will burn but you have to be strong! I usually keep it on my face for about 20mins so I try to leave it on there. It will burn but after you rinse your face with COLD water (carefully making sure it does not go in your eyes), you will be glad you did. After an hour or so, you should see a huge difference, if not right after your rinse."

CHAMOMILE AND WITCH HAZEL

1 YEA

[YEA]  05/23/2009: Seven from Neosho, Missouri, USA writes: "I have adult acne (I'm 34f) due to hormonal imbalance and problems with my digestion. They tend to bother me a great deal causing me to pick at them and otherwise make them worse. I tried a lot of different expensive commercial products without success. The ingredients usually burned and inflamed my skin and didn't do anything for the acne.

Finally I came across an "acne cure" that people were paying up to sixty-dollars per ounce on the Internet. I found out that it was simply Chamomile lotion and witch hazel and I already had that in my medicine cabinet. I tried it out and it works great.

I wash my face good in the evening, use witch hazel as a toner then apply the Chamomile lotion. (I am going to see if ACV works better then Witch Hazel after reading about it here on this site.) The Chamomile dries up the acne usually overnight and has always made it better including really deep hard nodule type of acne.

Chamomile lotion doesn't prevent or otherwise cure acne but it does dry up outbreaks extremely rapidly, keeps the acne from itching and being irritated and doesn't burn, sting or otherwise have side effects that I have experienced. I wish I had known about this as a teen."

COCONUT OIL

10 YEA
1 SIDE EFFECT

[YEA]  05/11/2010: Jessica from Oshkosh, Wi Usa writes: "I have suffered from extreme acne for over four years. I am very anti-medication and always look for alternative medicine (ie. natural oils, silver water, ect). I finally was fed up enough that I made an appointment to see a dermatologist. My body was covered in huge, painful pimples. Mostly my back and some on my face. It was by word of mouth, from a friend equally as commited to alternative medicine, that I heard about Coconut Oil. I saw immediate results. Some go through a detox stage, as I did from taking internally, but saw clearing of my back acne within 24 hours of topical use. AMAZING!!! It also got rid of my candida (an over production of yeast in the digestive system that makes you extremely bloated after meals) - This stuff is a God-Sent!"

07/24/2010: Vanilla from New York, Ny replies: "Response to:Jessica from Oshkosh, Wi Usa: I have also been suffering from back acne for years. Currently, I have back acne plus blemishes/scars all over my back (mostly the top area near the shoulders)from previous acne that hasn't perhaps healed properly. I just wanted to know in detail how you apply the coconut oil (i.e. topically? internally?) and how often (only after shower? 2-3 times a day?), and how long you leave it on (i.e. Overnight? 15mins?) and in what quantity (1 teaspoon?). I have decided to give coconut oil a try with my back acne. Yesterday, I applied an ample amount (well, just enough to cover the area in a thin filament) of coconut oil on my top back area after a shower and left it on. Today, I haven't noticed much change except my shoulder area feels a bit bumpier (whiteheads?) and no signs of clearing of the blemishes(maybe too early to tell?). I don't know if the appearance of an increase in bumps is a good thing (pulling toxins out?) or a bad thing (bad reaction?)

I will continue to apply coconut oil on my back everyday after each shower for at least 2-3 weeks to give it a fair shot. Any suggestions or comments or helpful tips/techniques are always welcome! :)"

[YEA]  12/03/2008: Adele from New York, New York writes: "I had acne for over 15 years and tried everything from alcohol witch hazel, neutrogena, and even a doctor had prescribed glycolic acid, all of which worked slightly but then stopped. I had dermatologists suggest using dial soap to kill bacteria but what was I to moisturize with. I think within those 15 years I have spent about $1200-$3000 in skin/acne wash and moisturizers.

The simplest solution for me, only realized after hyperpigmentation and awful bumps in centralied areas:

1. daily jog/use trampoline and drink green smoothie (kale, apple, carrot) in the mornings
2. wash face with Dr Bronners peppermint soap
3. moisturize with COCONUT OIL.

That's it!! and this works regardless of stage in life (puberty, older age)...very simple and effective."

11/01/2008: Tumbleweed from Los Angeles, California writes: "For moisturising after acne treatment (H2peroxide) i have gone to using coconut oil, because vasaline is a petroleum byproduct. I keep a big pot available at all times and slather it on at night. You think your skin could never absorb this amount of oil,but it does and you dont smell like a coconut. It is amazing stuff and is part of my acne treatment, as its also antibacterial. Personally i think acne has more to do with overstressed liver organ, and working on that as well as skin is a good plan."

[YEA]  10/08/2008: Lavonne from Sydney, Australia writes: "I have had acne all my l life and have tried everything. AFter getting very frustrated I decided to do what my grandma always suggested. I started using coconut oil on my face, as a moisturiser, a couple of months ago and I am loving it. When using it you may get put off in the first week or so as the initial couple of weeks you will break out (some bad some very bad). Basically it's the coconut oil detoxoing your skin. That happened to me and I had to just keep up with it so as to see the long term results. Now my skin is clearer and scars are lighter. Remember that pure coconut oil is antibacterial, antiviral and best of all it's not bad fat.I have started taking the EVCO (3 tbsps per day) and am noticing the difference internally as well. I have a very low immune system and I am noticing that I don't catch colds easily, I am more active, clearer mentally and overall wonderful.I am glad I gave it a go and now am seeing the results. It is also great used in the oil cleansing method used by a lot of people (including me). I am so happy that I don't use chemicals any more.. It feels so much better. My grandma was right and I owe this to her.

PS: you have to have a healthy diet. I experiented with my foods as well and noticed what made me break out.... sweets (all kinds), fried foods, caffeine, alcohol and dairy products especially cheese. I now know if I have any of these foods i will break out."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  05/23/2010: Sheila from London, England replies: "Hi

I would like to know from any body if bad skin breakouts is normal when using coconut oil.I started using coconut oil & for the first week my skin was great. But the next week my skin just flared up so bad, spots everywhere even on places that I never had spots before. So for fear I stopped. If I continue will it get better? If so how long must I use it to see a result or how long does the flare ups last? I would like to continue if there is light at the end of my dark tunnel. Thanks"

06/23/2010: Cat from Austin, Tx replies: "I had the same experience and was not sure if it was ACV or CO. I quit both for about 2 months as the rash seemed to get worse. I still used the coconut oil (CO) on my body, but not my face. Finally the rash cleared up but my face was left a mess. Then, I went back to using it; just a dab to moisturize instead of a slather and it worked fine. As Now and finally, I use CO alone to cleanse my face and I tolerate it very well; which lets me know that I was going through a detox/cleanse. Now I put a small glob on a large cotton round and clean my face with it before I cold shower in the morning and the last thing at night before bed. I'll never wash my face with soap again. I don't use anything else except I exfoliate with cayenne pepper and a dab of CO once a week, careful not getting the cayenne pepper into my eyes. This does work for me. My skin has lost the darker spots, is softer and the lines are slowly disappearing. I'm also back to taking ACV but only 1 tablspoon in 32 oz mug I sip for about an hour in the morning. The ACV is slowly brightening up my face and mood, helping my vision, increasing my thinking process. My advice: go slowly with these remedies. Don't take in or put on too much at first or you will experience a detox. If you have to, break it off a bit until your body adjusts; then, slowly reintroduce and see its affect. Your body; your way. Peace out!"

[YEA]  06/26/2007: C.J. from Rossford, Ohio writes: "I developed adult acne at age 18 despite dry skin. Recently, I was told to take zinc for my acne, but was already taking 200% and didn't want to risk overdosing, so I thought I'd crush a tablet and make it into a mask with coconut oil. Coconut oil sounded really good to me as it would moisturize and fight acne at the same time. Using this mask daily has made my acne much less red and started the healing process on my lingering acne scars. The zinc promotes healing and the coconut oil is supposed to have antibiotic properties. I crush one zinc tablet and add the contents of one coconut oil capsule to make a mask. Leave it on for 20-60 minutes. The longer the better, in my experience. Rinse it off with water and a mild soap. Follow up with a balancing toner."

[YEA]  01/17/2007: Amy from Boise, Idaho writes: "I have been using topical prescription acne meds for 2 years and have done pretty well. This winter I have had a terrible time with dry skin and acne. I have tried exfoliators and lots of moisturizer to relieve the dry skin flakes and have seen no improvement. Just more pimples and flakes. One morning I woke up with a large rash on my neck where I had used an exfoliator. That night I started using coconut oil on my face and neck. (not virgin, Spectrum brand refined) My neck looked much better the next day and I did not wake up with any new pimples which I was very surprised. It was scary putting something so oily on my face! My large pimples under my neck went away in 3 days. My flaky skin was gone in one day. My skin looks great, soon I will try the virgin coconut oil for my face and to include in my diet. This is the first time I have ever been able to say that something natural and possibly a fad REALLY worked for me."

[WARNING!]  04/12/2008: Bradley from Corpus Christi, Texas writes: "STOP USING DEODORANT!

Why? I have no idea but I have tried every remedy in the book for acne and it would not cure it. From benzaclyn, proactiv, retina micro, hydrogen peroxide, acv, etc. You name it, I prolly tried it. So one day I decided to get away from regular deodorant and go to a natural deodorant because of the Aluminum in deodorant. Little did I know days later my face was clear and has been clear for 2 months now. It has been the clearest it has ever been since I was a kid. I went to my local supermarket and found this deodorant called Toms Natural Deodorant and it is Aluminum free. Maybe the ingredients in my deodorant I had always used was the cause for my acne. I wish I knew this in high school! Try it, It's amazing!"

DIETARY SUGGESTIONS

3 YEA

[YEA]  01/13/2010: Bob from London, U.K. writes: "Blood type diet cured my acne. Suffering from a bad case of adult acne for years, I tried many different conventional treatments (antibiotics, medicinal creams, facials etc.) as well as alternative ones (homeopathy, accupuncture, various diets etc.) but nothing worked. 8 years down the line, I bumped into the Blood Type Diet and decided to try it. Within a week my face cleared, I was amazed by the fast results! All that was left was the scarring, which got better with time. I recommended the diet to 2 friends (they were blood type A) and they had great results too. I hope this helps."

[YEA]  08/16/2009: Bluebirdofparadise from Billings, Mt writes: "Hi,

I just wanted to write tell about some things that seem to be curing my acne.

First of all, I used to get pimples on my butt and I found that it was from the lotion I used (or sometimes I'd use baby oil after a shower). Anything with mineral oil or petroleum jelly or or artificial stuff like that in it would give me pimples. It took me a little while to figure it out because I'm really into moisturizing my skin and it's something I'd been doing for a long time. When I switched to using virgin coconut oil or other virgin oils (olive, grapeseed, etc.) the problem disappeared.

However, I still got pimples on my face, back, and chest. It was really embarrassing to wear a swimsuit or a dress with a low back or anything, because they were all over (esp. my back). Well, a couple of months ago I decided to become a vegetarian (for reasons other than my acne). When I did this, I also became concerned about my nutrition and started taking a tablespoon or two of both unsulphured blackstrap molasses and brewer's yeast every day, in addition to eating a diet almost entirely of whole grains, legumes, nuts, fruits, vegetables, and cold-pressed (virgin) oils. I couldn't believe what was happening to me, but after a week or two the zits on my chest totally went away. Next they started disappearing on my back and now they are totally gone there, too (except for some little red scars where they used to be, but they are disappearing too). Now my face is clearing up as well - and I didn't even get any new ones when I got my period. I'm putting shea butter and lotions I make myself out of olive oil or almond oil and beeswax on my face. The shea butter really seems to help the scars disappear quickly. I tried using Pond's a couple of days ago but when I did I had a big zit under my eye by the evening.

I'm convinced that my acne was caused mostly by my diet. I realized this even more after I went to the fair a couple of weeks ago and ate a bunch of deep-fried food (still vegetarian but very high fat content!). The next couple of days my acne flared up again badly. A huge pimple on my cheek, one on my chin, lots of tiny ones on my forehead, and several on my back. It didn't matter what I was (or wasn't) putting on my skin. They just came, and benzol peroxide seemed to make the one on my cheek worse. Now that I've been back to "normal" (high-fiber, low fat vegetarian) about a week all the pimples are almost gone again (and no new ones have appeared).

I know a vegetarian diet sounds extreme but it is totally worth it to me. I feel so much better and healthier and more beautiful. I can look at myself in the mirror now and see smooth skin all the way up and down my body, front and back. I think I was just taking in more toxins to my body than it could handle. This wasn't easy for me to see as I am petite and thin for my size - so I wouldn't have guessed that too much fat/toxins in my diet were causing the problem. Now I am certain this is the case! Plus I feel better and more energetic and happier than I have in years. So in a nutshell - eating vegetarian/whole unprocessed foods, making sure my diet is nutritionally sound (blackstrap molasses and brewers yeast) and not putting chemicals or mineral oils on my skin is turning out to be a wonderful acne cure I wasn't expecting. If you can do it, I'm sure it will make you better too."
