Cure Acne

[YEA] 01/03/2008: Kelly from Denton, Texas writes: "Having had moderate to slightly severe acne since puberty , I have tried it all short of Accutane. I became COMPLETELY acne free at age 40 when I started DMPS chelation for mercury poisoning. The treatments were a week apart and each time would worsen the acne right after the treatment but would then look great until my next treatment. Each treatment would make it worse then better until about the 5th or 6th treatment completely cleared it. That was 9 years ago. The doctor had no idea the Dmps would do this and I have not seen where it is mentioned to cure acne anywhere. Not sure if it is the sulphur in the medicine that did the job or the clearing of mercury from the gut. Either way this was a complete cure and the answer to many prayers."

I stopped using regular soap and started using Dove Sensative Skin. It is soap free, fragrance free, hypoallergenic, ph balanced, etc. My acne cleared up within a week or two. On top of the acne, I was also getting very ichy, dry, and slight burning sensation of my skin after showering with regular soap, and this has also stopped since using the soap free Dove. I still get break out every now and then, but they are absolutely nothing compared to what I was getting when I was using regular soap."

After just one week without any, my face has not "caught on fire" even once, and no significant breaking out. ELIMINATE DAIRY and FAST FOODS
[YEA] 08/23/2006: Alex from Nampa, Idaho writes: "I completely cut Dairy from my diet. My acne was clearing up dramatically just after a few weeks. My breakouts were minimized by over half. But i was still breaking out at times. I cut all fast food from my diet, or anything that has lots of oils and non natural fats in them. i stopped my intake of soda pop, candy etc.
I now eat a lot of fruits, vegetables (salad is great) and i drink at least one glass of green tea a day. My breakouts have gone down so dramatically and it's so amazing, it's all in diet. Not everyone has a strong body to fight off toxins, so you MUST take care of your body. The average diet of today is so horrible. I'm only 20 and i know this, everyone should know this. Actually i think everyone does know it. They just don't care anymore and enjoy fast food cause of the easiness, and taste. But i tell you what, once you cut it out, you soon learn to love the taste of these great foods that god put here for us. To the point where fast food just sounds like poison, cause that is all that it really is!!"

1 YEA[YEA] 04/03/2007: Mila from Sacramento, California writes: "I tried essential oils, more specifically, rosemary and coriander oils, for my blackheads and active acne, and a miracle happened with my face. Here is how I do it: at night I wash my face first if i have makeup on with my regular camphor based cleanser, then about an hour later i heat up a huge pot of water, and hold my face above the steam for about 10-15 minutes, i also cover my head with a big towel, so the heat does not escape. The steam helps open up the pores and let the toxins out. Then I take a shower and rinse my face off oil and toxins. After i get out i pat my face dry and apply coriander and rosemary oil mixed together. It's been a couple of weeks, and my face has cleared up so much, I am amazed. There are other things I do too, like drinking less caffeine and eating less sugar ,taking flax and omega 3,6,9 oils, also praying to God( I'm a christian), and my skin has been great. It doesn't get congested anymore, it's color is more healthy and even, I am absolutely amazed. I am 22, so I know acne at my age is an internal problem, so I recommend to anybody the essential oils(coriander and rosemary), but also checking your diet, some foods cause your skin to congest and breakout. Hope this helps)) I think I'll be using essential oils now,for me they've been more effective and a lot less expensive than facials and pretty much all brand name products i've tried in my life, and trust me i've wasted thousands of dollars on lotians, facials, cremes, etc. God bless you, and hope you find this comment helpful."

1 YEA[YEA] 01/20/2008: Robert from Naples, Florida writes: "Robert's Fungus Saga: Part Two: Adult “Acne”
This is where the “saga” starts to get interesting. After my adolescent acne should have cleared up 35 years ago, it got slowly worse. All over the bearded part of my face, what appeared to be sacs of hardened oil under the surface of the skin had been forming nodules. These didn’t get infected, each just grew larger. Over the years I’ve seen dermatologists who said, because of my otherwise great health, “you’re just a middle aged adolescent,” blaming it on high testosterone, etc. The apparent acne problem continued and worsened.
I’ve seen doctors, dermatologists, pharmacists, herbalists, laser specialists, and spiritual healers. I’ve bought every acne ointment known to man. I took pills, vitamins, and herbs. I changed diet. I get plenty of exercise. Nothing worked. I had extensive surgery to correct the problem three years ago, and within 18 months it looked just as bad as before. As a public speaker and author in my profession, the skin condition was emotionally upsetting and stressful.
Having conquered toe nails, I started researching down the path that maybe the acne was caused by a fungus (although the symptoms didn’t look like my feet). Was I surprised when I found:
“ Tinea barbae is a superficial dermatophyte infection that is limited to the bearded areas of the face and neck and occurs almost exclusively in older adolescent and adult males. Symptoms include inflammatory, deep, kerion-like plaques and noninflammatory superficial patches and lumps resembling bacterial folliculitis. The hair breaks off below the skin surface. It is caused by several dermatophytes. Trichophyton species are most common. Infection of bearded skin may be the result of autoinoculation from tinea pedis or onychomycosis.”
In other words, the mess on my face that had caused me so much grief and been misdiagnosed for decades was caused by the same fungus that gave my feet a problem. Apparently the dermatophytes enter the hair follicle (nails and hair are similar biological structures), then attack the sebaceous gland, feeding off the body oil; then the body’s immune system reacts with scaring and hardening the facial oil, leaving an oil nodule. The dermatophytes then migrate to the next follicle, and eventually dozens of affected follicles link as a nodule the size of a pea.
Now it became obvious what had happened: The athlete’s foot I got as a teenager went to my toe nails, and, because I was ignorant of the relationship of using a towel on my face that might have been used on my feet or crotch, the fungus got transferred.
Not a single dermatologist who examined my face ever bothered to ask the question: “Do you have toe nail fungus or athlete’s foot!”
Using the same solution on my facial outbreaks as on my toe nails (the revised formula with coconut oil), the facial condition is clearing up. Just like with my feet, skin is sloughing off and the nodules are beginning to eject. This is the best result I’ve seen in years. I expect it will take a few months for the problem to be cured, as the fungus is down below the level of the base of the hair follicle in the sebaceous gland."

[YEA]04/17/2008: FT (gobba55 /@/yahoo.com) from Ridgewood, NJ replies: "Comment to Robert: THANK YOU for posting about your "adult acne!" Beginning at 11 years old I got pilonidal cysts at the base of my spine (tailbone) which I suffered with all through my school years. The inflammation, swelling and pain was excruciating. I rode a schoolbus to school and it was pure torture. I didn't want to tell anyone I was suffering with this condition as I was embarrassed as a child. When I went off to college I finally was seen by a doctor who operated and removed the cyst. I haven't had another since in that location but beginning shortly thereafter, I started getting cysts in my armpits. These cysts, which I still get, sound exactly like your "adult acne" condition. One doctor wanted to remove all of my sweat glands under my arms. Another just used to cut them open and let them drain, only to return again after healing. In the past 10 years I have developed Lichen Simplex Chronicus in my groin area which also "flares up" frequently and is accompanied by a painful cyst in the area. And last year I developed athlete's foot accompanied by toenail fungus of my right big toe. I AM FALLING APART! I have never, ever had athlete's foot until last year. At the same time I developed a weird scale on the side of my head that I at first thought was dandruff, but is something much worse than normal dandruff. It's oily and crusty and builds up very quickly! I tell you all of this to show you how I believe all of these conditions are connected/related to fungus. Oh, I also suffer with severe sinusitis during allergy season (now) and through the summer and fall. I really think this is all related. I am otherwise a healthy person (ha!) or at least I thought I was! Now I see that this is all the doing of one culprit - FUNGUS! I am going to try your formula and will let you know how it works. I'm very glad I found this site!"

Apparently, used green tea tea-bags work wonders! I'd make a cup of green tea, wash and dry my face while the tea steeps itself, then I take the tea bag out (let it cool a little first, but warm enough so it opens those pores) and wipe it across my face like a cotton pad with astringent. Let it air-dry. I sit on the couch and drink the tea while i wait for the 'astringent' to dry off. I heard this stains your skin green, but it works like foundation on me because i have an olive complexion.

What happened is that ideas started coming to me, and one of them is honey, I decided to try honey on my acne face, I had half a jar of manuka honey at home so I started using it along with baking soda and lemon juice, and imediately I could see a glow. I also had pain in my gum, and have been using OP with some results, but still had soreness with brushing, then todaY i DECIDED TO USE THE HONEY inplace of oil, put a tsp in mouth for about 5 to 10 minutes, then spit it out and brush, wow! no pain or soreness, I also had a bump on my face, i put a dab of honey and went to bed, this money bump gone. I tok the honey jar and spoke into it thanking all the bees that gave me this wonderful product, I thanked the farmers, the store keepers and last but not least this wonderful site, earthclinic. thank you for taking us back to earth, now i know everything works, at the right time with the right attitude. Since 2002 I have been to 3 Dermatologists, each one progressively hitting me with stronger and stronger treatments (I stopped short of Accutane), and have been through countless 'remedies' before attempting peroxide. After about 3 - 4 weeks of applying the peroxide topically 2-3 times a day, the bumps are gone -completely gone. The only downside is that I have brown hair that is now a burnt orange color and blonde in a few spots. But hair grows back.
When I say I've tried everything I mean it, from prescriptions to over the counter to changes in habits. The following is a list of some of the stuff I've tried without success:
Dr. prescribed medication: Monocyclene, Tetricyclene, Evoclin, Retin-A, Ketoconazole 2% shampoo.
Over the Counter stuff: Proactiv, facewash, facewash pads
Shampoo: Every strength and every brand of Medicated shampoo out there, t-sal, coal tar, 2% pyrithione znic, natural shampoos, tea tree oil shampoo, nioxin.
I've shaved my head, changed laundry detergents, I've changed my sheets every other day, I've used triple antibiotic ointment, tea tree oil (not diluted), organic athletes foot oil, hydrocortisone 1%, cranberry pills, showering 2-3 times a day, even diaper rash ointment - yes, that's right, diaper rash ointment.
Most of these attempts yielded mediocre temporary results. After about a week of use, any bumps that disappeared returned with a vengeance.
All along all I needed was a $1 bottle of peroxide. Amazing.
Good Luck!"

2 YEA[YEA] Donna from Aspen, CO writes: "I totally cured my PMS, as I used to have severe anxiety, temper flare ups and acne. I paint myself with 2% tincture of iodine every AM & PM. Noticed the change within 2 days! Also, my allergies went away, my teeth weren't sensitive anymore.
Recipe: Paint about a 2" X 2" area on your stomach area, always moving the spot around to different locations (or the skin gets dried out and itchy). Just two days ago I forgot to paint in the morning, by evening I had a acne starting to form on my chin, I quickly painted my tummy, and when I awoke the next day it was gone!
If your paintings don't absorb then you can put off painting, maybe every other day. It means your iodine level is okay, maybe you really don't need any. However, I read that 80% of Americans are iodine defficient. They used to put iodine in all of our flour products (before 1966), then they discovered bromide, it is easier, cheaper, less messy and makes ingredients mix well, so it's in all of our bread, flour products (except "sprouted grain" breads/products & 100% organic) cakes, even Gatorade and Mountain Dew (it was found in Dansani water too)!
Fluoride, chlorine, bromide & iodine are all halogens, their atomic weight determines which one deletes the other, fluoride being the winner (doesn't that make you happy). Iodine is the loser, so all three delete iodine. That's why we are all deficient, we cannot escape fluoride, chlorine and bromide! So, paint paint paint, you only absorb what you need!"

While acne can have many causes, I believe that most acne occurs when the body is too toxic from elimination problems. A healthy person should have 2-3 easy bowel movements each day. If not, the system backs up, and eventually waste products have to come out the only way they can--through the skin. This can cause acne. So if you want to attack acne at the source, start taking fiber! Get yourself regular. Every time I have gotten myself regular, my skin has cleared, and when I start feeling blocked up, my face breaks out. It makes sense!"

1 YEA[YEA] 03/28/2008: Christa from Mountlake Terrace, WA writes: "Milk of Magesia(Philips brand ex.) is an amazing mask to draw out the impurities and treat acne. You can use this mask once a week or daily for very oily skin. It has done wonders for my skin. It works much more effectively than any clay mask etc. You can use Philips Milk of Magnesia brand or any store brand works fine. Shake up well and apply. The consistancy is liquid, but will dry and harden quickly. Then rinse. The milk combined with the baking soda scrub that has been mentioned previously by others is an effective combination to treat acne. You simply mix the baking soda with either water or a gentle facial cleanser and scrub in lightly, not too abrasively to irritate your skin. Because I have sensitive skin, I do not use both treatments on the same day, but it is up to your disgretion. Also another great remedy to treating acne is wiping H2O2 or your skin. My final tip is not a holistic remedy, yet is very effective: benzol peroxide, you can purchase this at any drugstore. You only use a small amount and gradually work up the frequency of application, because benzoyl peroxide can be very drying. Also, do not use hydrogen peroxide the same time that you use the benzoyl peroxie for this would be too strong for your skin. Hope this info helps someone. Good luck, this has been the trick for me."

It is very inexpensive and I am confident you will be very pleased with the outcome."

I take two tablespoons when I wake up in the morning, and two before I go to bed at night. It eases digestive problems, so if your acne is related to constipation, it's a sure-fire bet. It also supplements you with minerals such as Chromium, which about 90% of Americans are deficient in."
EC: 2 teaspoons of black strap molasses with one teaspoon of sulphur (MSM) once or twice daily to cleanse the blood. Skin eruptions may increase initially -- an indication that the blood is being cleansed.

4 YEA[YEA] 04/25/2008: Molly from Berlin, Germany writes: "Hi everyone! first I wanted to say that I love this site and have found it very helpful for minor skin ailments. I am 24 and have always had fairly decent skin, al ittle on the dry side, easily scars, and prone to pimples and have tended to over due it in the product department. In the past couple of months I have developed mild acne probably due to hormonal changes..so i checked with this website and have put together my own skin regime I have found very successful and would love to share with all of you! First I use an all natural but basic bar of soap with as few additives as possible (I happen to use a brand handmade in california called Beesworks as I have found the products to be really gentle and effective, plus they smell great and are all natural and organic! but on that note im sure any natural organic soap would work) About every other day I mix in about one table spoon of baking soda into the soap lather and gentle massage into my face, especially focusing on the problematic areas. The key word here is GENTLY as i have found the if I over scrub or use the baking soda on my skin too often it can be harsh and drying, otherwise it works great in healing my acne. Then i rinse with cold water and after patting my skin dry I splash apple cider vinegar on my skin as a toner, then finish with pure vitamin E as a moisturizer and to heal my acne scars. the ACV is not the nicest smelling toner and the Vitamin E can be a little sticky so I usually save this regime for nighttime before bed and in the morning just stick to the bar of soap and a natural moisturizer. An alternative to the ACV is just plain lemon juice and i have found this more pleasant smelling, but not as effective as the ACV. A couple of times a week I do a homemade mask of yogurt and honey. This makes my skin so soft and dewey and also helps with the acne. The best part about this regime besides how effective it is, is its cost! It happens to be really affordable so stop buying those fancy expensive skin care products ESPECIALLY if they have ANY chemicals in it and experiment with natural ingredient instead until you find a regime that works for your particular skin type."

Wash face with water. Don't use soap b/c it changes the pH balance, making it easier for bacteria to thrive & cause acne.
Sanitize face with grain alcohol. I think you can use other sanitizers, as long as they are acidic & not basic.
Apply coconut oil to face morning & night.
Ingest either a tablespoon of coconut oil (tastes great in hot chocolate!) or flax seed oil each day.
Ingest a tablespoon of liquid multivitamins each day.
Eat one apple every day.
Acupuncture
The root cause of my acne was digestive & immune system problems, not the skin per se. Where you break out on your face is a clue as to where your health problem lies. For me, I was breaking out around my mouth, which indicates a stomach problem, & on my neck, which indicates an immune system problem.
Once you get your health back on track, your skin should clear up."

OIL PULLING, TOMATO, MOLASSES, BROWN SUGAR SCRUB
[YEA] 02/20/2007: Deonnise (trinisrhott[at]yahoo.com) from Arima, Trinidad writes: "A COMBINATION OF REMEDIES, learnt from this site, is ridding acne from my face. A problem I have struggled with for years is finally saying Bye-Bye! I have introduced my body to OIL PULLING; I alternate days by eating either 1 TOMATO or 1 tbsp MOLASSES first thing in the morning. I do the BROWN-SUGAR SCRUB twice per week. I use HYDROGEN PEROXIDE after washing face; wash pillowcase regularly; apply VIT E before bed; apply a different FACE MASK once per week; apply CLEAR TAPE over troubled areas and peel away dead skin cells once per week. I also drink water regularly (spring/purified/tap). Thank you Earth Clinic for alternatives, and thank you fellow readers for sharing your tips."

1 YEA[YEA] 02/26/2007: Jess (Jrbardinelli@hotmail.com) from Johnson City, TN writes: "I have suffered from severe cystic acne, the most severe, painful, and deepest of acne for at least 13 years (since puberty). I've tried everything. Nothing topical worked because the acne was so deep. I finally found the cure! A form of vitamin B5, pantothenic acid, in extremely high doses cured my acne completely! I have been taking 10g of pantothenic acid a day for almost a month. Within a week I could see huge results and within two weeks I was completely clear. I'm so glad I decided to try this instead of trying Accutane like the rest of my family. If you decide to try this build up to 10g/day over the course of a week (if not, it can cause stomach upset) and continue the 10g/day regimen for 2 months. After that you can gradually decrease the dosage down to a maintenance dose of 1-2g/day. This information is supported by a study done by Dr.Leung in China. The initial 10g/day dosage is extreme-the pills mostly come in 500mg doses which ends up being 20 pills/day but if you're desperate like me then it's worth it. I split mine up into 2 doses/day and dissolve the pills in a drink. It doesn't taste good but its better than having to take so many pills. I've read that smaller doses work but it may take longer to see results."

1 YEA[YEA] 12/19/2007: Patricia from Laguna Niguel, CA writes: "I love this website! Lots of wonderful home remedies. I read about Iodine and went on ebay- I bought Povidone- Iodine first to try, and painted myself with it over every problem area of my skin- the colors were disappearing in 15 minutes or so. The bottle says for external use only and do not apply it over large areas of the skin. Well, I have not tried take it internally yet, but as I understand it, Povidone is used for prep surgeries, which means it is in contact with blood and internal organs. After my first application on small areas, I noticed that the morning after I could see significant improvement on my skin where there used to be acne-like pumps that I had for several years- some shrank and some went away. I then started using it on all scars and it seems to make them more smooth and heal better. Upon seeing that, I asked my husband to paint me all over my back- dry, flaky skin with red irritable spots- and over night, they became more smooth. So I started to use it more and more, sometimes it stains my clothes, but my skin seemed to be healing. Don't know if that is also indication of my iodine deficiency. I wonder if it works any differently from Lugol's. I do have signs of low thyroid function, like cold intolerance, poor circulation. Can you tell me if I can take the Povidone internally? How is it different from Lugol's?"

2 YEA[YEA] 07/08/2007: Emily from Pearland, TX writes: "I have been through so many acne treatments (including 2 rounds of accutane) yet I was still getting cysts and spots everyday. I was also having recurrent yeast infections every month. I got off birth control which helped for a while. THEN i started using apple cider vinegar 3x a day, and an antifungal with oregano oil, pau d'arco, caprylic oil etc. Those helped a lot , but I was still getting very hard and painful bumps. What I believed helped me to get rid of my acne was adding probiotics of very meal. I make my own kombucha, kefir and kimchi and they have done wonders for my whole body including the yeast problem. They are also very cheap!"
