[YEA] 06/26/2008: Donna from Garnerville, NY writes: "I tried this last night and I'm shocked at how well it works!! When you hold the match head on the sore, it HURTS like you want to SCREAM, but when you're done, the pain practically disappears. The next day, the sore is significantly less painful and it has started to heal."
I had a swollen zit near my chin. I know, gross. It is/was the kind with a center that won't come out until IT is ready to. So I found a pack of matches and I applied the tip of one to the zit (yes, it was kind of open because I can't leave them alone!) I could feel a little burning, nothing major. Checked it out the next day and it had shrunk and was not painful to the TOUCH anymore. Thank you for this suggestion!! Now, does anyone know of any acne medicine that contains sulfer so I don't have to walk around with matches stuck to my face? LOL"
Replies10/12/2010: Imadaffydill from Folsom, Ca replies: "I found at Rite Aid drug store "Adult Acnomel" made by Numark Labs 1.800.331.0221, 8% sulfur and 2% resorcinol, I use this beige tinted cream and I stopped eating dairy from cows (big difference)goat is fine for me. Hope this helps."
10/18/2011: Serioushealth from Vancouver, Bc replies: "Hi there!!You have to try Mario Badescu's drying lotion. It has colloidal silver ( I think is how you spell it) calamine, and salicylic acid in it. This product has really helped to dry out my acne, especially cystic acne or the hard ones under the skin that really hurt. You can buy it on Ebay or I think Sephora may carry it as well.
Also, try steaming your face once a week for 15 minutes. When your pores have expanded, put on a sulfur mask. Wash it off when the mask is done with COLD water. Lots and lots of cold water! Your skin will look amazing!
I really hope this helps."

[YEA] 02/25/2007: Anon from Perth, Australia: "I have tried several things to attempt to aid my pimples since the age of 13 (I am now 16). Over the counter products, home remedies and even Proactive. But just recently i have started washing my face morning and night with Palmolive anti-bacterial handwash, which was about 3-4 australian dollars, and can be found at any grocery store. I started to see small improvements the following morning, and within that same week almost all of my pimples had vanished. I was also using Bio-Oil, which I think is around 20 australian dollars for a 60mL bottle and can be found at any chemist or pharmacy, as a moisteriser because it reduces the appearance of acne scars. It has been about a week that i have been using this regemine, my skin is a lot better, my scars are less visable though I have just a few pimples left. I am also thinking of using an anti-bacterial facial cleanser instead of the handwash, but I'll keep you updated about everything. I don't recommend that you use the handwash more than twice a day, once in the morning and once at night, because it could dry your skin out and don't use the Bio-Oil on broken skin. I also recommend that you use a moisteriser in conjunction with the handwash. A couple more things to add: try to avoid touching your face when not necessary, if you pick or pop a pimple(which I don't recommend) immediately wash the area with the handwash and wash your hands with the handwash before and after washing your face, to avoid spreading bacteria. If you have any questions don't hesitate to email me and don't forget to leave me feedback!"

Antibiotic Ointment

[YEA] 05/08/2008: Lindsey from Detroit, Michigan: "I sort of figured this one out on my own awhile ago, but it's nice to know I wasn't being weird by using it. I've used Neosporin (or some other such product) to treat my break-outs for the past few months and it's worked wonders. I never really suffered from acne as a teen, nor are my break-outs widespread, but the few that I do get at a time still make me stress out and feel a little insecure. My skin is also prone to scarring, so every time I got one, I would have a double stressor, "Oh great, even if it goes away I may still have a scar!" Since acne is pretty much a bacterial infection, I figured "Why not try some Neosporin!" It worked the first time, and it's worked every time. The ointment kills the bacteria, reduces the swelling and redness, prevents them from hurting (mine are usually around where my glasses rub), and also helps reduce scarring. Why not try it! People that say the bacteria will develope a resistence to it are only half-right. Yes, if you use it everyday over your entire face, it will eventually stop working. But if you only get a few sports every so often, why not use something quick and easy that most everyone has in the house?! If you are still worried about making super-bacterias on your face, just do what I do: apply it twice a day (morning and night) until the spot is COMPLETELY gone (should take about 2-3 days tops). Again, I wouldn't recommend this treatment for people that have severe acne, but for "on the spot" cures, it work wonders."
[NAY] 10/02/2007: Max from Richmond, VA: "NAY for Antibiotic ointment to treat acne; While this does initially get rid of any blemishes present on your face, the bacteria in the pimples gradually develops a resistance to the antibiotic, and the acne becomes harder to treat with anything, and you break out more."
[YEA] 05/09/2007: Bea from Holyoke, MA: "Hi, my daughter is 12 and has had acne for about 2 years now. i tried several products including pro-active, dermatoligist rx, over the counter, etc. They have only worked for a week or so. Then i started reading up about acne and found that it is caused by a bacteria that forms inside the pores/hair follicles (whatever you wanna call it) and applied some antibiotic ointment to the face and back. and it has worked in only 2/3 days. even lightening the dark spots a bit."

08/01/2012: Clare from London, England: "I have started taking Aplle Cyder vinegar for acne on my back, is this the right kind to take? I went to Holland and Barret and I couldn't see any with 'mother' in it. I mix 4 cap full with a glass of water twice a day.
Also it is only my second day and I have a headache, which I never normally suffer from. Do you think this is a sign that my body is detoxing?"
Replies08/10/2012: Gena from Pasadena, Ca, Usa replies: "Yes, a headache is often a sign of detoxing. Make sure to drink plenty of water. Also, you can cut back on the amount of ACV you take. Sounds like you started off with quite a high dosage. Any apple cider vinegar will work, but try to find an organic one that is unpasteurized. Good luck!"
[NAY] 05/03/2012: Nat from Bridgewater, Va: "NAY - my wife tried ACV both topically and internally for acne, with no result. In fact, her breakouts are worse then ever before at this moment.
She will be trying peroxide next, but if that fails, it looks like a trip to the doctor."
[YEA] 03/04/2012: Eva from San Diego, California, United States: "I have been desperate for a relatively cheap, effective, holistic cure for acne. I have had acne since high school -- I'm almost 30 now -- and tried almost everything (I refused the most extreme) and spent tons of money on different products to get rid of it. No one knows the psychological effects of bad skin until they've had it. After a particularly bad and long-lasting breakout I came across this page looking for anything that might help. Last weekend, I read the different comments about ACV and decided a $5 product was at least worth the try. I was frankly not optimistic.
One week later, I am here to advise anyone and everyone to try it or at least consider it. I am shocked at the amazing results I have seen so far. My face has cleared up CONSIDERABLY, my giant cystic acne (the biggest - about 1. 5 cm across - had been hanging out for about 2 weeks and looked like a blood blister) along my chin line is nearly gone, and I am receiving lots of comments about how great my skin is looking! SEVEN days later!
Here's what I've done:
I went to a local store that carries organic food and bought an organic, filtered, unpasteurized raw Apple Cider Vinegar with "the mother" in it.
The first day I used a toner of straight ACV on a cotton round, and doused a q-tip with ACV to hold on the largest acne for around 20 seconds each (this will sting just a bit but not like some other products I've used)
Since then: I use a very popular acne face wash, a toner of half filtered water/half ACV, and finish with a repairing lotion from the same line as the face wash. Morning and night. I have used oil-control moisturizer a few times when it felt necessary. I've also continued to put straight ACV on a q-tip and held it to the largest acne every few days.
I drink 2 tbsp. Of straight ACV morning and night. This is the hardest part. I don't drink juice, but did have some soda water that I drank immediately afterward that seemed to cut the horribleness. I also put a drop of honey in my mouth afterward a few times to deal with the aftertaste. I take it just like a shot to get it done with because sipping it in water almost made me vomit. Don't take it on an empty stomach because it made me feel queasy (I DO have a sensitive stomach, no vitamins or supplements without food in there). The 2 or 3 minutes of this awfulness has definitely been worth it in the long run.
I would really encourage you to try this if you have been struggling to find anything that actually WORKS. I have sensitive, combination skin and was very concerned that this would play out like some of the products I've used and just burn my skin and make it red and chapped. My skin looks brighter, more translucent, and the redness from older scarring has gone way down. My littler pimples and blackheads seem to be nearly gone, and I just seem to have a few different areas where the acne was deep under the skin and is working its way out. I am totally impressed with this remedy and want to say THANK YOU to all the people who have shared their stories here and to EarthClinic.com for hosting these stories. Thank you so much everyone, and I hope this story can help others like me!"
Replies03/04/2012: Nan from Illinois replies: "Hi Eva--Congrats on your success! Wonderful. I know how you feel--I had cystic acne for 25 years. (Gone now as I'm 47, although I still can't use regular moisturizers or creams. ) But good that you are getting a handle on it now. I'm writing to share possible tips for you. I recently started oil-pulling with coconut oil and noticed that after 7 days, any blackheads are almost completely gone. Since oil-pulling is great for anti-viral properties, this could be a nice easy addition to your anti-acne routine. Also, for older acne scars, I've found that straight Goldenseal (liquid tincture for about $6-12) has really faded old scars on my face. I used it on a q-tip. It will be gold-colored on your face, so you'll want to use it at night, probably! Let it dry or it will stain your pillow..... All the best to you Eva!"
06/28/2012: Grateful from Southfield, Michigan, Usa replies: "Hi Eva, congratulations on your success! You mentioned, however, that you are drinking apple cider vinegar straight twice a day. I wanted to mention to you that I have read in numerous places on EarthClinic that drinking it straight will damage the enamel on your teeth (and for that same reason you should not brush your teeth immediately after consuming apple cider vinegar). I wanted to suggest that you dilute the apple cider vinegar in 8 oz of water and drink it that way (or even 16 oz of water if you're taking two tablespoons of ACV). I know it will take longer to consume that way than just a quick swallow, but your teeth will thank you -- your teeth will be as pretty as your skin! Best of luck to you!"
[YEA] 10/07/2011: Jobomb from Mill Creek, Wa: "I have tried it last night my 8-9 pimples are already gone! I cannot believe how wonderful this works! I have done accutane and it worked but it came back! Also nothing has worked faster! Miracle from god!"
09/03/2011: Miram from Calistoga, Ca: "Hello I have just started the ACV for acne. I have had acne on my back as long as I can remember and it has diminished my self-esteem terribly. I have been looking for a cure for some time and I have high hopes for ACV I have only been using it for 3 days now both drinking it once a day and rubbing it on at night before bed (topically) I really hope this helps. (Although no improvement yet) I can't even wear tank tops because of my acne, I don't know if anyone else has this type of acne but it is mostly apparent when the sun shines on my skin and then there are hundreds of little bumps, but they never really come to a head, so I'm not sure what kind of acne it is but is awful. Yes I have been to a dermatologist and after $400.00 and no answers or help other than red rashy dry cracking skin, here I am. So I'm really hoping for some kind of improvement. I will let you know. I keep thinking Accutane may help but I am 29 years old and have 3 small children so the side effects may be too much for me."
Replies09/04/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Miram I am reading a good book at present from Ann Wigmore "Be Your Own Doctor". In it she suggests that acne is caused by a "sluggish colon". The toxins are getting out of the body though the skin as acne. She says all skin conditions are caused by a bad digestive situation. Excema, rashes, etc. Etc. It makes sense to me.I would say that if you start taking liquid chlorophyl with sprilulina and chlorella (or something else natural your body will naturally detox and the acne will go. Worth a try."
[YEA] 11/25/2011: Littlestnoon from Mcgregor, Western Cape, South Africa replies: "I've had similar problem! Always had great skin until this year, 37 yrs diagnosed with two ovarian tumours - goodbye hormone balance! I've read about androgens, but I can't take an oestrogen because of my cancer. So, I'm going to try spearmint tea, three times a day. Apparently acts as anti androgen. My back and shoulders are a mess and I get single large ones on my face. Very distressing. I really hope it works. Oh, I drink ACV everyday and am a complete believer in it."
08/06/2011: Acne-ridden Teen from Abc, Usa: "I was using an organic soap for face, chest and back cleansing and applying an "anti-fungus" oil that was a combination of tea tree, almond and garlic oils to my face 3-4 times a day and before I go to bed. I had tried every affordable acne cleanser, and my acne used to be a 5 on a scale of 1-10, but using the anti-fungus oil and the soap seemed to work and the acne and scars were vanishing... Until I broke out again. I'm not sure what to do now, but I've read a lot on here that apple cider vinegar (ACV) works like a charm. Any recommendations on how to use it? Is it better topically applied or ingested?"
[WORKED TEMPORARILY] 06/06/2011: Gigi from Los Angeles, Ca: "I was amazed how well ACV worked on my acne. I have facial acne backne for about 16 years. I began drinking diluted ACV and noticed results the very next day! 2 weeks later, my face and chest completely cleared up! Now 3 weeks into it, break outs began, glow is gone, and 2 cysts formed. Every time a remedy starts to work, soon enough, my skin learns to overcome the cure and breaks out again. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I will continue to drink the ACV and keep applying it because I like it, but my hope is gone."
Replies08/24/2011: Cselestyna from Alberta, Canada replies: "It could be the body detoxing itself."
09/15/2011: Pam from Pine Island, Mn replies: "Keep doing your normal routine that has been helping, but if you detox too much or too fast your body can't keep up, give it a break and don't use it for a week, and then try again."
09/15/2011: Ginger from Fairfax, Va replies: "I have never tried ACV but I have been on docxycline and keflex and my face also clears up and in about 4-5 weeks I begin to break out again. I am going to try ACV to see how that works for me. It really sucks because I am 46 and I never broke out like this when I was a teenager."
03/19/2012: Jack from Ny, 60115 replies: "Do you want to get rid of blackheads because you have an upcoming date, or else you have a party to take care of, or just simply want the face and nose appear and feel blemish free? Largest is, there are several remedies for blackheads. You'll find sophisticated ways of to get rid of blackheads fast which of course needs you to have a very trip to the skin doctor. Nevertheless, there are simple remedies available which can be done at home. Results vary with regards to the severity of your blackheads, but the good thing about these simple remedies is because are cheap nevertheless effective for a lot of people.
A good way to get rid of blackheads fast is by using a pore stripper. This can take out the blackheads which can be caused by trapped dirt and other oil on the skin's pores. Use a readymade one that can be bought at the drugstore. You may also use washable and non-toxic PVA glue to take out blackheads, especially for the nose, as an alternative. First is usually to open up your pores by using towel that has been drizzled with warm water for a minute or so. Get a small amount of glue, and apply it thinly on the blackheads' surface. Leave it for a few minutes to dry and peel it well afterwards.
Another way to do away with blackheads fast is always to mix a small amount of ordinary toothpaste with salt. This type of remedy targets blackheads on the nose. Use this mixture and put it to use on the nose, leave it on for about 5 minutes before massaging it gently. The next thing is to wash it off with lukewarm water, afterwards apply a piece of ice or wash it with cold water so your pores will close. Utilize a mild toner or moisturizer so that your nose will smoothen and help get rid of blackheads fast.
Another way to get rid of blackheads fast would be to mix an egg white with honey. Before you apply the mixture, make sure to open up your pores by washing the face with warm water. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and wash it well. The mixture removes excess oil that's the reason it is great in removing blackheads. Addititionally there is another way to get rid of blackheads fast which is ideal for people who have sensitive skin, and that is through green tea. Combine teas leaves and teas powder in equal amounts, and after that add a small amount of warm water for a thick mixture. Apply a combination on the surface where there are blackheads by scrubbing. Wash it well with lukewarm water, then cold water, and finally pat your skin dry. This mix is not only to get rid of blackheads fast, but is also healthy for the skin too.
There is no 100% guarantee that they may be effective to all users, but it's definitely worth the try. These remedies to get rid of blackheads fast are made from ingredients which are not harmful to the skin. Regular application or inclusion of these remedies in your beauty routine will help you achieve optimal results during a period of time."
[YEA] 04/24/2011: Meangreenapple from Brooklyn, Ny: "ACV is one the best gifts from nature!! I wish so many more people knew about this natural remedy for so many ailments like acne. For me I had to deal with Acne since my teenage years up until my adulthood and it was cystic acne, very painful and very embarassing and so many dermatologists and antibiotics and topical creams and birth control pills did not remove the problem but just lessened it by a litttle bit but it would come back with a vengeance! I was giving up hope and my self esteem was very low because of my face.
Then I came across apple cider vinegar and all the good comments about it and I started drinking it and using it as a toner on my skin (diluted of course) and my face and my back and my skin in general is so much better! And im not taking all those medications with horrible side effects anymore, apple cider vinegar is seriously a miracle I wish someone told me about it when I was younger. Your skin is a reflection of what is going on inside your body and apple cider vinegar cleanses it on the outside and also applying it on your skin helps kill all the bacteria and takes the oils out. People with persistent severe painful cystic acne dont give up hope!! Do detox cleanses and Apple Cider Vinegar is one of the best ways to cleanse yourself. 2 teaspoons in a cup of water 3x a day or adjust it however you like and keep it up. I'll be taking it the rest of my life."
Replies05/20/2011: Tracey from Glasgow, Uk replies: "Hi, my daughter is 19 & suffers from acne to her face, jawline & back - it's really starting to get her down. After reading the comments on this thread she started taking ACV (1tbl x 2 daily) and also 1tsp black molasses (for good measure) - to date, nothing has improved. She can't take her ACV in water as she hates the taste & so has it in OJ - do you think this is really making any difference? Any help/suggestions would be really appreciated!!"
07/06/2011: Mia from Milton, Ontario replies: "you can dilute it with water and apply to skin as a toner. The only way I can drink it if is I pour it over salad with olive oil and drink it what is left after I eat the salad."
12/01/2011: Carolyn from St. Catharines, Ontario replies: "You need to drink a good organic apple cider vinegar. I put 1-2 tsp in a mug of hot water with a touch of honey. The best brand I have found so far is Filsingers Organic. The taste is much better than other brands I have tried."
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 01/31/2011: Rhonda from Columbus, Ohio: "i read the Remedies on using raw apple cider vinegar for acne. I already had some of the acv in the fridge so I tried it as well as my daughter and within 24 hours they were 40% better, 48 hours 60% better.. Now they are flat with just a pink cast. I figured in about 1 or 2 days They will be gone. This really works. Do not waste your money on expensive things on tv or the drug store. For under 5.00 the ACV does the trick.. Yes you will go to bed smelling like a pickle, but its worth it!"
[SIDE EFFECTS] 01/18/2011: Dawn from Wildwood, Mo: "I am getting acne on my jawline, which I know is hormonal. I have noticed that I seem to have a bit of a sensitivity to the ACV and it seems like these come out when I do that. I know sometimes you break out worse at first and then it goes away, that is not the case here! I have tested it and I definitely can pinpoint it to the ACV. Is anyone else having an issue with this or is there anything I can do to get rid of them? They are the cyst like ones, they hurt and take a long time to go away!"
Replies04/03/2011: Abi from San Francisco, Ca replies: "I had this same problem (with the painful breakouts on the jawline). After some research, I realized it was a food allergy to wheat. Once I cut out food that contained unbleached wheat flour, I noticed a huge difference (no more jawline breakouts). I also used tinctures of burdock root, yellow dock root, dandelion and red clover as adjuncts to the new diet regimen. These tinctures are known for their blood cleansing properties. I hope this helps."
