[YEA] 07/01/2008: Donna from Janesville, WI writes: "Facial Acne: I have no idea why Turmeric isn't #1 on here! It is amazing! You can buy it at your nearest Tree Hugger Store. Like Basics, or Whole Foods. My daughters face was red, purple and bumpy. Just after 1 cap. a day for the past 4 days, she is almost completely clear already!!! I am to excited and tell everyone I know~every chance I get! The pill is a little big for my daughter, so I give it to her with a little yogurt to help it go down. I love you Earth Clinic and all its members! God Bless!"

[YEA] 07/16/2009: Tony from London, UK writes: "Hi there, read the comments on Urine Therapy and thought, 'why the hell not?'. I've been using it on my face for the last 2 weeks, one to two times a day and it has really cleared up my skin and made it glow. People have been commenting, not least my girlfriend who was very amused when i told her what I had been up to.
It's not horrible, it doesn't smell when it drys and if you are worried just rinse with water. i do it in the shower first thing wash the rest of my body and then rinse it off last thing. I've stopped using soap on my face as well and my chronic mild acne (20 years and counting!) and bumpy forehead has cleared right up.
thanks for all the posters, great site."
09/06/2011: Chris from Coudersport, Pa replies: "I am more than willing to try it.. Just was shocked at first.. Just have a quick question that really worked, your own urine ? At first did you just think oh well... Is this after you had the zit, or when was coming and you could feel it ? I feel stupid asking this do you use that in other places for zits?"

[YEA] 05/24/2009: Jerry from Belen, NM writes: "I have a medication induced acne on sensitive skin. After suffering for many, many, years I ran across "urine therapy" and tried it out of desperation. After researching the use of 'urine' I decided to try it instead of more medicated shampoos, salves, and antibiotics. It did what my many doctors and Rx's over the years couldn't do in just under two months! For the last two years I gloated to the doctor and skin specialists shaming them for prescribing antibiotics for more than twenty years when antibiotics are only good for ten days. Then one doctor examined me and asked if I wanted him to prescribe some urea for me! No thanks doc I have my own pharmacy and laughed my way out of his office. Okay, I was bad!
Then a couple of weeks ago I treated myself to a pedicure and enjoyed the experience so much that I subjected myself to a facial not realizing that I was fixing to destroy all the good efforts I had achieved. The scrub felt good; the message felt better; the mechanical scrubber and steamer did its job as I relaxed in the chair. Then the facial mask was applied and finally a scented oil rubbed in. The next day pimples were erupting all over again! Back to the urine therapy which is slowly undoing the damage done by that great facial! Okay, I should have known better, but since I solved the problem, and two years had passed, I thought it might make my skin cleaner.
Back to the urine therapy and no more facials. As I looked in the mirror and felt my beard I could feel what the facial had done. Immediately I recalled lessons learned in curing my skin just two years ago:
First, you must have a balanced diet and exclude ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS from your diet.
Second, you must not use SOAP, any kind of soap on the face. Why, because sensitive skin only requires the solvent WATER to clean. Straight from the faucet use water that is neither real cold or warm. Soap changes your skins pH balance!
Third, the warmer the water the more your pores open up--the colder the more they tighten up. Once we get our natural skin pH back with urine therapy eruptions will cease to become a problem then apply cooler water, but NEVER SCRUB OR WASH in circles for this opens and spreads subterranean vessels where infections are being fought off.
Fourth, do not use oils or alcohol on your skin. The skin is the largest organ of your body. It continues to regenerate itself ever so many days. If you do take baths make sure you use Nature's solvent, clean good pH water to bath with. The more alkaline or acidic soaps you apply to the skin the more difficult it is for the skin to adjust its pH balance. Sensitive skins cannot adjust to these sudden changes. By the way, a soak in a clean bath tub full of good water is equivalent to drinking eight glasses of water a day, but ask any nutritionist and they cannot tell you where that guideline comes from for it has not been established.
Fifth, all of your body organs are pH Alkaline in nature. It only stands to reason that the more acidic your water the harder it is for your body to repair itself. Your blood is 7.4 alkaline and doctors say that if that blood changes just 4 tenths of one percent you will die in either direction! A good dose of pineapple is pH 10 and so is watermelon. This is where drinking water should range. Investigate your water pH content along with looking at your diet. Researchers have known for years that ANY TYPE OF VIRUSES WILL NOT GROW IN AN ALKALINE SOLUTION! Cancers, viruses, and other diet related problems usually boil down to bad water supply! Check it out please.
Don't you just wish there was a mask you could put on and take off without disturbing your face? Hahahahahaha"
RepliesEC: Just to clarify, did you drink your urine (one method) or apply it topically? Thanks...
05/25/2009: Jerry from Belen, NM replies: "To EC:
No, I did not have to drink it EC, although that was my next step. Pat fresh urine on your face with two cotton pads the size of silver dollars. In my case I use warm water directly hitting the face, or a hot towel soak first. This opens the pores! Quickly apply the fresh urine liberally while the pores or open by patting the face. This can be done easily in a morning shower. The rest of the urine can be applied to the hair. I stopped using shampoos except maybe once a week and hair-skin acne cleared up. Your grey hair will become stronger and healthier, what do you think about that? My hair actually looks better now un-shampooed! Air dry your face or infected area. After you feel the face is dry go back to the bathroom and pat cold water on your face. This will close the pores tight and allow your white cells to fight the infection just under the skin.
Jerry, Belen"
EC: Thank you for the update!
07/28/2010: Elise from Perth, Wa Australia replies: "I was just wondering if wearing makeup during the day after applying the urine to my face would undo my good work. Thanks"

Soak a cotton ball (first morning pee is best)hold it on the pimple, repeat every time you urinate, the pimple will go away. Contrary to popular belief, human urine is sterile and contains your own wasted antibodies. Don't knock it until you try it, it really works!"

[YEA] 11/29/2009: Frances A from Jacksonville, Florida writes: "Recurring boils and similar large, painful pimples
After age 21 I had terrible huge pimples. When my pharmacist told me that some derms prescribed Vitamin A, I started on it immediately.. It was like a miracle, a moderate miracle. The huge deep pimples stopped and my skin improved in other ways.
I used to take 50,000 units a day but now I would limit myself to 25,000 units per day. Just be patient and don't stop the treatment."

VITAMIN C

[YEA] 01/10/2010: Azg from Toronto, On writes: "I'd been having troubles with my skin lately and for another reason (broken capillaries) I had been taking very large doses of Vitamin C internally (with Lysine)... it's still to early to tell if it's working. But I noticed a MARKED IMPROVEMENT in the condition of my skin in regards to breakouts... they were diminishing dramatically. So I decided to apply it topically. You can Ascorbic Acid powder in a variety of health food store, and if you go to your local large beauty store there is a famous brand that sells a topical vitamin C powder (it's very expensive - sourcing out ascorbic acid powder is definitely cheaper). Mix a tiny tiny scoop (maybe 1/16th of a teaspoon) into your moisturizer every morning and apply it. You may feel a tiny sting from the vitamin C but it shouldn't be uncomfortable and it should disappear almost instantly. If the sting lasts, you've used too much powder! You'll notice an immediate improvement in your skin and I bet you'll be acne free within a week... Do this only in the morning - no need to overload your skin at night. Plus Vitamin C is a very powerful anti-free-radical and anti-aging product."

VITAMIN E
09/12/2011: Christy from Collinsville, Tx writes: "I adopted the bad habit of picking scabs when I got acne in my early teens and have bad scars from it. Over the years (I'm 25 now) I've used Vitamin E oil; internally and externally. I think if I were to use it on a regular basis for 2 or 3 months at a time, it would have faded the scars but I was only able to apply the oil once a day for about a week at a time.
I still have trouble fading scars, but from what I've read on this website about fresh Aloe Vera Gel, I am eager to keep at it and see what it does for me."

[YEA] 12/28/2010: Jamie from Chattanooga, Tn writes: "I have researched many cures for acne on line and have put together what works best for me.
Daily Plan:
Vitamin A 3 8000iu (24, 000IU) capsules 2x's daily
Vitamin E: 1 200IU 1 or 2x's daily. (i find 2 sometimes makes my face greasy)
Zinc: 1 caplet 1 time a day (can't remember the mg off top of head)
Niacin flush daily. You will have to experiment to find the appropriate amount of Niacin to cause the "flush" which I have found to be the MOST helpful part b/c if I miss it a day or two I have a breakout. My flush amount is 300mg on empty stomach. Wash 2x daily with ben Peroxide wash and use salicylic acid moisturizer."

WATER

[YEA] Liza writes: "I started drinking 10 glasses of water/day, for no reason other than I had started exercising regularly and I wanted to be healthy. About 3 weeks into this regime, I noticed my acne had completely disappeared, I had not been using anything topically for my acne at this time nor did I change my diet besides the drastic increase in water intake. Another bonus was, my regularly dry skin is now as soft as a baby's (even my hands!) and I don't have to use lotion at all--even after shaving my legs. When you first start drinking lots of water you are in the bathroom quite often--including in the middle of the night. This subsides after a week or two--your bladder becomes accustomed to the increase and adjusts. I learned the easiest way to drink 10 glasses of water/day is to drink out of two of the 1 liter water bottles or 4 of the smaller size (20 fl. oz.) bottles. For economy, I refill mine. I also try to drink 1 liter by noon and the second liter by 4 p.m. (So I'm not in the bathroom at 1 a.m.) I recently read an article by a doctor in Connecticut that said drinking that amount of water will reduce allergy symptoms, constipation and some other common ailments, (including acne and dry skin). Her article also mentioned that drinking juice takes away water from our bodies because the sugar level in the juice is higher than that of our blood so water is supplied from our body to our gut to dilute the juice. (In other words, it takes away water, rather than adds to it.) I regularly don't drink anything besides water --I'm never thirsty! Her article also said that you can count as one of your 10 glasses of water an herbal tea or a glass of 1/3 juice with 2/3 water."

[YEA] 10/07/2007: Courtney from McMinnville, Tennessee writes: "I heard about this website from my stepmom, and i decided to look at something for acne. I have suffered from acne for about 4 years now and I tried so many products to clear it such as: Neutrogena, Clean and Clear, Clearasil, Cetaphil, and St. Ives. None of them worked. I switched to Proactiv, which made a big difference but never fully made my face clear. I read on the website that acv worked wonders, so i put it on a cotton ball one night and applied it to my face. My face turned red, and I looked like a crab. It also burned my eyes. I didnt do that again, and so i tried witch hazel as a tonor, and it has done so much. It cleared up the redness around my nose, I have a glow to my face, and my face feels so smooth. I also am still using proactiv as a wash and lotion, but not the tonor."

My acne was cleared up 100% within three days. Hope it works for you if you try it!"

[YEA] 03/16/2009: Katie from Seattle, WA, USA writes: "Yogurt cured my acne. I used plain yogurt (about 1/2 tbsp to 1 tbsp) with live cultures sometimes mixed with a few drops (2-3) of honey. Some people prefer to mix it with honey because it softens the skin, although it isn't necessary. When I applied the yogurt to my face, I just applied enough for there to be a layer about 1/4-1/2 inch thick. But, if the yogurt is spread on too thick, it will slide down the face and becomes a mess. I leave the yogurt on until it dries (about 45 minutes to an hour), but some people suggested to leave it on overnight. Then I simply washed it off with warm water.
After applying the yogurt mask, my face always feels smoother and has a more even complexion. Some suggest the uric acid in the yogurt is what helps with acne, although I cant confirm that to be true, I can say it has worked for me.
Thank you Earth Clinic, I love this website so much!"
[YEA] 12/30/2009: Vanessa from Portland, Or, Usa replies: "I use yogurt as well, usually when I start to break out, but it's gentle enough to use it everyday. I mix it with honey and lemon (a few drops of both then apply to my face and let it dry. Sometimes I leave it on overnight, but most of the time I dont because it isnt a pleasant feeling to have dried yogurt on your face for hours. Its not harsh and always does the trick. I find it helps all skin problems, its calms the skin and reduces swelling, reduces redness, shrinks pores, cures pimples and seems to do an amazing job at smoothing the face.
There are lots of other recipes for yogurt masks on the net, just do a google search!"

[YEA] 03/13/2010: Bill from Prescott Valley, Arizona writes: "Am an Alternative researcher. My 12 year old son was developing acne back in the 70's. Gave him some Zinc
tablets, 10 mg I. think, and it cleared up. It worked so well, he started selling them on the school bus and got in trouble. To stress the importance of Zinc in the body; he was told young boys deficient in zinc would have small sex organs and zinc was important for their growth. Needless to say, all of his friends took zinc religously."

ZINC OXIDE

[YEA] Anonymous from Missouri writes: "This is very inexpensive and it should be somewhere near the band aids and neosporin section at the store. Just dab on heads at night and in the morning they are dried up. If they're small then the zinc oxide will draw out more pus resulting in it being bigger than before you put it on. Just use the creme again and it will dry up the whitehead."
Replies[YEA] 11/13/2009: Kai from Randolph, Nj replies: "About a week ago, I noticed that my 14 year old son's prescription tazarotene acne face cream was no longer working. He was breaking out in large pimples everywhere on his face, neck, chest and back. He was running out of the prescription cream, which had worked pretty wel for a while, (but not great) and I had to decide if it was worth a trip to the doctor to get a new prescription. After I looked at the cost of the prescription meds without insurance, I began to research natural cures for acne. He was also using a sulpha wash and an 8% benzyol peroxide wash to try to keep the acne at bay with no success.
After doing some research here on Earth Clinic, I decided to try some of the methods others were having some luck with. First we tried diluted ACV and it seemed to smooth his skin, but since his skin is ultra sensitive, it burned quite a bit even though it was diluted far more than recommended by other posters. So while it could work well occasionally, I knew we would not be able to use this on an daily basis.
Topically applied zinc also sounded promising, but before we went out and bought zinc cream, I decided to make our own concoction out of what we had in the house. I used a Miconazole nitrate cream, (which I had read worked for some acne suffers), and zinc tablets which I ground with a mortar and pestle. We have applied the cream for two nights now and it is working so well it is hard for me to believe. He has no new pimples (some were getting large and cystic--one by the side of his nose kept coming back no matter what we treated it with) and the old ones are disappearing. I wish I had taken a picture of his face before the treatment to compare.
He says the cream tingles a little when it is applied, but that sensation goes away quickly. While it is too soon to tell if this is a viable long term solution, the immediate results are promising.
In the meantime, we have ordered some commercial zinc cream (around $8) and are looking forward to trying it to see if it will work as well as our homemade cream."
11/14/2009: Jp from Lake Park, Fl replies: "He's probably allergic to dairy with no symptoms other than the acne. Have a food allergen blood test done."
09/18/2010: Piper from Toronto, On replies: "Zinc ointment or commonly known as diaper rash cream is very healing. It is good for bringing up whitehead as well as for getting spots to heal faster. Apply at night as you don't want to walk around with white stuff on your face. As you sleep the zinc cream will help spots heal. Diaper rash cream or zinc ointment can vary in zinc content from 15-37%. I use the brand with the highest content I could find and it is worth the price difference."
