Turmeric Cure for MRSA
Holistic Treatment Ingredients:
- Turmeric - 1 Teaspoon
- Water or Milk (Rice, Soy etc.) - 8 Oz
Turmeric is a natural spice and powerful health aid from India. Each day, drink one teaspoon of turmeric in water or milk 2-3 times a day until the boil has healed. Also make sure to drink plenty of water while taking turmeric.
[YEA] 06/01/2011: Ellie from Santee, Sc: "Thank you so much for this unbelievably simple and wholesome miracle of a treatment! It WORKS with such incredible healing speed that I could actually notice a difference in my MRSA sores within hours, just like was claimed. I've only had MRSA, as far as I know for a few weeks without any idea how I was infected--but I do work with money! The first sore I had, I thought was a pimple and I made the huge error of trying to break and drain it--never do this! It was a horrid, seeping thing and I was in tears... It was just above my collar bone and highly visible. Not only do I work with the public, but I have a wedding to attend this weekend and I was mortified to think I'd be seen by so many people with such an ugly wound on me. Within days of the first one appearing which i'd only been washing with cetaphil and treating with neosporin, a second one appeared on my forehead and I was again in emotional agony. I did not want to be treated by conventional methods--I understand that the treatment can be even more devastating than the infection in many cases--it tears up your immune system, basically.
I was very hopeful when I found your site and read so many encouraging testimonials about the fast results when taking tumeric three times daily for this monster of an infection. I bought ground turmeric right off the grocer's shelf and began taking it the minute I got home. Literally within hours the weeping sore on my collar bone was dry and the sore which hadn't broken the skin on my forehead was practically GONE; just THAT fast!!! I kept up a vigil of cleaning them with the cetaphil and tumeric three times a day disolved in warm water--ten days later, I cannot see where either of the MRSA sores were any longer. And not only did the tumeric work for those sores but it also annihilated a small outbreak of tenacious cystic acne that i'd been trying everything on the drug store shelves to rid myself of for months!!!!
I can't thank Earth Clinic and its contributors enough!!! I can attend my Nephew's wedding this weekend without a worry at all and I'm so grateful for your advice! I reccommend this treatment with the highest praise for Mother Nature herself!"
[YEA] 05/29/2011: Jeff from Kutztown, Pa: "I have been diagnosed as having mrsa and was having a serious problem w/ boils. regular medical help did nothing to alleviate the problem. in looking online, I found sites that suggested using turmeric as a remedy. I didn't have the instantaneous results that some people claim, but it did help. I started by taking a teaspoon in warm water 3 times a day, and as long as I continue to take a teaspoon in warm water each day, my boil problem has ended. thank god for turmeric!!!"Replies
05/30/2011: Sara` from The Beach, Canada replies: "tumeric is oil soluable it may improve your results to take it with milk or almond milk if you have dairy issues."
05/30/2011: Carly from Seattle, Wa Usa replies: "... I agree, add oil like coconut or some milk (for the fat) to the turmeric... But it is also important to add pepper - it helps you absorb it in the gut! :-)"
03/16/2011: Heather from New Castle, Indiana: "I have been getting mrsa spots for awhile... I've had a couple drained and been on antibiotics. I had a small one appear and started researching because I'm so sick of being on antibiotics. Well, I found this site and went out and bought some of the powder spice turmeric, I have tried to take it with everything... Mixing it in anything I can think of.. And it still makes me gag every time. I just can't stomach it. So, I was considering getting the capsules.
I read your warnings on them, I actually found some at walmart.. And they don't have any of the extra ingredients in them you mentioned. So, I was wondering if these are ok to use instead? I was going to start by taking one 500mg three times a day with meals. I'm fine with the extra cost, because I'd rather pay a few more dollars than gag everytime I try to drink or eat the stuff. So like I said, I'm just curious if this will be as effective as long as it doesn't have those extra ingredients? Also I'm using the actual powder I bought to make the paste to apply to the spots.
One more question, how long should it typically take for it to work? Especially on a smaller one?
Thanks so much!! "Replies
03/16/2011: Granny Laura from Waco, Tx Usa replies: "I had an ex-fiance that I foolishly gave some curcumin (extract of tumeric) capsules to. He'd been having boils on, in, and around his ears for a year, and he kept asking me for a cure as he knows I am a real fan of alternative medicine.
Unfortunately, it cleared them right up! I let my good nature get the better of me. He really deserved them. Lol"
03/17/2011: Heather from New Castle, In replies: "Thanks.. I'm glad to know it worked at least! I've been wondering.. I've been taking 4 500mg capsules.. Through out the day.. I can't take more than 1 at a time or it upsets my stomach too much. Not as bad as the powder mixed in water through. I take 1 with each meal and then 1 with a snack before bed. It still causes a bit of a stomach ache. But not as bad. And I drink a whole bottle of water after each one. So I'm wondering, how long should it take or does it normally take to notice a difference?
The spot that had some stuff coming out of it, seems to be flat and painless.. But still every morning I see a tiny bit come out of it.. Is this normal? It itches though.. Does this mean it's healing?
I have another spot that is just a small hard knot under the skin.. It hasn't broken the skin or anything. It doesn't really seem smaller either though. It's not really painful, I just want to keep it from getting to that point. Yesterday was my first full day of taking it.
I'm nervous, because we leave for our anniversary vacation next Saturday.. and I don't want to be dealing with this."
12/28/2011: Healthymomglennvil from Glennville, Ga replies: "Although taking turmeric internally is great for, not only the infection, but your immune system, you can also apply it topically. Also, another option is to buy to powder from an ethnic store, very cheap, and put it in capsules yourself! Much cheaper!!"
01/05/2012: John from Sandton / Gauteng, South Africa replies: "Keep a shaker of Turmeric on the table, Sprinkle on bread or toast, butter over the turmeric and, as turmeric was / used to be, the yellow colouring in butter, there isn't much taste. A sprinkle of sulfer, does no harm either. John"
12/27/2012: Cindy from Robbinsville, Nj replies: "If you sprinkle Turmeric on chicken while cooking it it is really good.... You are still consuming it, just not drinking it."
[YEA] 02/09/2011: Beau from Norman, Ok, Usa: "Hi everyone I am a 29yr old 6'3" 225lb male who is healthy other than my 8yr battle with cultured and confirmed MRSA. I am in utter amazement at the effectiveness of Turmeric at clearing up my most recent outbreak of MRSA on my chin. I have had these outbreaks on and off since 2002. They began on the back of my head in the beggining, always treated with bactrim or ciphro.
Recently I have been getting them on my face and the antibiotics are taking up to 3 ten day rounds to get rid of them. I have been reluctant to move to vanco or anything stronger because of research I have done on this problem. I am afraid of getting immune to every antibiotic and having nowhere to turn if I ever got a possible fatal infection.
Anyway, I am not one to normally turn to herbs as a means of treating illness I guess because normally I have always been healthy and got over things. This battle however has really affected me mentally and phisically as you all know. I poured over these posts on MRSA for about a weekend after being refered by my mother in law. The first and most popular I found was Turmeric. The recent outbreak was a small one on my chin that came up fast from a spot it had previously been, that same night I could feel one starting in between my eyes as well as a sore spot on the side of my head. I knew exactly what was happening and was so sick of this. They are getting more and more networked at this point but not as huge, I guess because I run to the doc and treat them immeadiately now that I know what they are capable of. For me they seem to happen about four times a year mostly when I get worn down.
I began by mixing a tblsp of turmeric in a glass of warm water on Fri morning doing this three times a day. I didnt notice much until Sat afternoon. By Sun night it was apparent that they all were in retreat. Mon morning they were all drying up and going away. I really could not beleive this was working. Like I said eight years of mupriocin in the nose during and after outbreaks with antib's hot showers and compresses all the western med tricks. They would get rid of them but never as fast and they never obviously cured me. So as I set here tonight I am a firm believer in turmeric and will continue to take everyday prob in capsules (check warnings about capsules) for maintenance for the rest of my life. I will continue to update. There is no reason not to try it. I have no noticeable side effects from it. You do want to drink lots of water with it."Replies
02/14/2012: Gina from Troy, Ny replies: "Hi all! My dog(and best friend) was diagnosed with MRSA about a year ago. The vet has given him numerous drugs to no avail. After reading your posts, I think I may try Turmeric on him. Any advise about dosage? He's about 70 pounds."
[YEA] 03/03/2013: Kelli from Mooresville, Nc replies: "I had the same issue with my dog, but I had just been through it with my daughter. So I immediately knew what to do. I put turmeric in a tablespoon of peanut butter and within 20 minutes the sores would start draining. I continued until they were completely healed. It probably took a couple of weeks. I tried putting turneric on the sores, but that was a mess with a little white dog."
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 12/26/2010: Tlm from Kannapolis, Nc: "My husband and I were tested about 2 years ago, they did the nasal test and he actually tested positive for MRSA and I test negative but I had at that time already had one boil but I didn't know what it was. I have continued having these boils coming up on my body for about 2 years now and just like you all I have suffered through the pain and discomfort for weeks at the time. During which I am still trying to have a normal life, well go through the daily process anyway. The DOCTORS are little to no help with this, I don't think they know what to do for MRSA at all. They just want to give antibiotics and an ointment and send you on your way, or lance the damn thing and pack it with gauze which in and of it self is painful but I really don't know if they know how painful these boils actually are to begin with. So with this said I was willing to try anything especially when I woke up this past Monday with my left eye swollen almost shut. It was 5 days before Christmas I needed to work 3 of those days but I just wasn't comfortable going to work like this and with the economy the way it is, it's just not a good time for me to be missing work either.
My husband researched MRSA HOME REMEDY and found all the good things you all were saying about TURMERIC, so he went to the grocery store and got me some in powder form and I started drinking it. The best way I have found for me to take is to mix with Lipton green tea: I put 1 teaspoon in a shot glass with the green tea, I have been doing this 3 times a day since Monday. My eye was swollen bad Monday and Tuesday, not so bad Wednesday, then Thursday not real noticeably at all, Friday just a little swollen where the bump is, and Saturday if there wasn't a small sore you would not even know it was there. Don't want anyone whom is just now reading about this stuff to think it will instantly get rid of these boils but it really does help BIG TIME. All of the other MRSA boils I have had in the last 2 years, for the most part I have popped because that is what I thought needed to be done and they last for at least 2 or more weeks, and when I say they last I mean I am in pain for the better part of 2 weeks, so for the one on my eye to be better in 3 to 4 days it was truly wonderful to me. I will continue drinking TURMERIC, everything I have read says it is good for you, and the benefits of helping with the boils, there is no reason not to. I would Sincerely like to THANK everyone whom posted there comments about TURMERIC, this has helped me and let me know that there are people in this world whom really want to help others."Replies
11/02/2012: B from Raleigh, North Carolina replies: "I have been suffering from staph boils for just under a year now. Like many (I'm sure.... ), I too thought my initial boil was a spider bite. The wound got progressively worse before I finally went to a doctor who swabbed it and confirmed staph- not MRSA, thankfully. I have yet to try drinking turmeric, but I have used grated fresh rhizome mixed in coconut oil and pepper on toast every day for two weeks with no noticable effects. However, I now use TURMERIC ESSENTIAL OIL directly on boils with great results! At the first notice of one, I'll put a few drops on a band aid and keep the boil covered 24/7 until it's gone. For me, depending on what stage I've discovered the boil, it will take about 2-3 days. I change the bandage about every 12 hours and wash the wound with a mixture of Dr. Bronner's soap, apple cider vinegar, and tea tree oil. I highly recommend this, as the oil is quite inexpensive and takes away the pain/pressure of the boil within hours. Quick and cheap fix- but not a cure for recurrent outbreaks. I will update after having experimented with drinking powdered turmeric in milk/water with pepper. Good luck!"
[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 01/07/2013: B from Raleigh, Nc replies: "Update: I started take 3 "00" sized capsules of turmeric and pepper with a spoonful of olive oil a day for about one week. Had to stop, because it brought on menstrual bleeding! Sure enough, turmeric is a natural emmenagogue used in Ayurvedic medicine. I made these pills myself, so they were not packed very tightly, but I would guess I was taking about 2400mg/day. I started taking one pill per day (800mg) because it absolutely worked for staph! I would definitely warn women to be careful. Especially if you're taking turmeric/pepper/olive oil because you will most likely be absorbing all of that."
12/22/2010: Irisheyes from Des Moines, Iowa: "I am attempting the use of Tumeric for my MRSA boils and am finding it very hard to swallow, pun intended. I have a very sensitive stomach and this stuff is just plain gross. Are there any suggestions as to making it a bit easier to take?"Replies
12/22/2010: Donna from Drexel Hill, Pa replies: "Hi Irisheyes, I make a turmeric tea using 1 teaspoon turmeric, a teaspoon of honey, 1/8th teaspoon of cayenne pepper and either some half and half or coconut milk. I then add hot water and stir. I love drinking this tea. Not only is it healthy but also delicious."
12/23/2010: Elizabeth from Nashville, Tn replies: "You can buy empty capsules and take turmeric that way. That's the only way I can take it."
12/23/2010: Diane from Berkeley, Ca replies: "Heck - just eat a lot of curries. I think that's the best way to take turmeric. I eat turmeric probably 2x a day at least, averaging around 1 tsp a day. Besan chillas make a great breakfast for example, and it can easily be added to those. Aside from taking it in warm milk when I have a cold, I cannot imagine swallowing it plain."
12/23/2010: Gg from Somewhere, Usa replies: "I buy the empty capsules and fill them with tumeric. No taste."
[WORKED TEMPORARILY] 11/02/2010: Braden from Chattanooga, Tn: "Tumeric is very good. The first time I used it (orally)the results were immediate and successful. Also oregano oil is very effective (used topically). Unfortunately after using these for over a year they are no longer very helpful."
10/20/2010: Nitehawk from Camp Verde, Arizona, America: "I recently used Turmeric mixed with Aloe Vera Gel to cure myself of MRSA. I noticed all of the Gel and about half of the 1/8th teaspoon of Turmeric I applied topically was absorbed into my flesh. I read that Turmeric dissolves more readily in warm fats than any other substance. I would like to try mixing Pressed Virgin Coconut oil with Turmeric for a nice topical skin treat, as opposed to ingesting these wonderful remedies. (Yes, I know Turmeric stains brown, but that's what color I am any way).
My Question is: What is the difference in absorption via ingestion verses topical absorption via skin? I. E. : If I ingest 1/2 teaspoon of Coconut Oil mixed with 1/8 teaspoon Turmeric, am I absorbing the same amount of nutrients & benefits as I do when rubbing 1/2 teaspoonful of coconut oil mixed with 1/8 teaspoon Turmeric into my skin? If not, what is a reasonable ballpark ratio of benefits for ingestion versus topical absorption? Please can anyone help me to understand this? I am so jazzed about finding Earth Clinic. Many Thanks to all who make this website happen!"
[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 08/20/2010: Jdawg from Fredericton, Nb, Canada: "Turmeric for MRSA: Well, I tried 1 tsp in milk 3x daily with meals and then switched to a standardized capsule with meals but within a day my gut was killing me (belching, bloating, flatulence). It may have made the boil on my arm better but I'm still sick and won't be taking the turmeric internally anymore unless I'm really sick. Hope my immune system takes over now."Replies
12/28/2011: Healthymom from Glennville, Ga replies: "This gas may have been your body detoxing and breaking down mucousy deposits and or killing candida in you intestines. Turmeric taken internally is a GREAT immunity booster, it would be a shame if others gave up on it because of your experience!"
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 07/31/2010: Thankful from Las Vegas, Nv: "Thank you so much for sharing the cure for MRSA. I used Turmeric and right away I started to feel better. I also changed my diet to one that consists of only organic meats and vegetables and no sugar. You really made a bleak situation much brighter for me. God Bless! Thankful"
[YEA] 02/16/2010: Kwanger from Tampa, Fl: "Turmeric anti-MRSA boil remedy!
About 18 months ago, I was hit with a nasty MRSA infection which saw me with a huge boil and widespread cellulitis on my leg. This was cured with Sufa anitbiotics from the doctors....but over the course of the next 9 months or so, I had 5 more reinfections, with more antibiotics....I was hating life and paranoid of every little skin blemish.
Then I found the Turmeric "cure" on Earth Clinic....and have not looked back - fantastic! I had a few other breakouts of what could have developed into a full on MRSA boil...but by taking turmeric either in water or using low cost capsules purchased online, none of them got to the stage they were getting to previously. I now take a daily dose in the morning, and the boils appear to have gone away and stayed away - for over six months.
Thanks so much for letting me know about this!"
[YEA] 12/20/2009: Shelby from Newburgh, In: "I have had a staph infection for the last month - my first ever. It was misdiagnosed until just a few weeks ago when I was finally given topical antibiotics. It seemed to have worked - the rash became a solid pimple like boil which then washed off in the shower. It left a mess though, the redness increased and there were many many bumps everywhere (this entire situation is occuring just next to my right eye) and seemed to be spreading. I put manuka honey on it, which relieved the heat issue, but I knew I had to get it off my face, in case it spread to my eye and caused serious issues. So back to the doctor I went. She gave me internal antibiotics and told me to quit eating Vitamin C, garlic, and the manuka honey and instead take a 500mg antibiotic 4x a day for 10 days. I took 2 the first day and got such a horrendous headache I couldn't see straight and all the aches and pains associated with this staph infection flared up. I took 2 antibiotics the next day but I felt so terrible on them I quit them. My legs were killing me again and I couldn't walk very well.
So I threw out the antibiotics and went back to my mega doses of vitamin C, garlic, manuka honey, and now - after reading this wonderful website - turmeric. I have been taking the 500mg of turmeric suppliments 2x a day and cooking with it for the last 3 days. I also began putting the tumeric on the skin infection by my eye because it was burning so badly. Mixing it with grape seed oil (what I found in the kitchen) has created the cure I needed! 3 days - 3 must be the magic number - and it is vastly improved. The boil doesn't itch, burn or bother me too much. The first night I didn't figure out the oil part, so it was a little dry and painful (much like the tea tree oil I had on before) but once the oil was mixed with it, the boil soaked it up. The second day the boil was very wet, and the change was beginning to bother me, was it getting bigger? Would I have a terrible scare or hole there? I jumped into the shower and washed everything off - getting out and expecting the worst. Lo and behold, the boil actually was smaller! I stayed awake last night, alternating heated rags to wash off the turmeric, then to reapply, and in the morning there was only a small opening, where before it had reached from under my eye to my eyebrow. Amazing! Tonight I will continue to clean it off and reapply whenever it starts to burn or itch again - hopefully by tomorrow it will be sealed with only the rash remaining.
Thank you so much for all of the information on here! It's amazing...$2.65 for a huge bag of turmeric spice...$8.00 for the suppliments - it should be a crime doctors do not tell people about natural remedies. Sometimes I think we have everything upside down and backwards when it comes to knowing all there is to know about medicine."Replies
12/22/2009: Shelby from Newburgh, Indiana Usa replies: "I just wanted to report back in. It has been 6 days since starting a personal turmeric treatment for my staph infection. Unfortunately I have a boil right near my right eye, a dangerous place to say the least. When I first started putting turmeric on the boil (which had spread from my eyebrow down my cheek and under my eye and from the corner of my eye to my ear even with antibiotic cream and tea tree oil) it is now day six, and all that is left are two small marks!!! They are not even the size of spider bites. Sure my folks are a little perplexed over my new orange stained complexion, but who cares?! This horror is almost gone!! Now though I've been focusing mostly on this particular area I have been working internally as well. Can't stop now! Almost there!!"
03/21/2010: Shelby from Newburgh, Indiana replies: "I have posted previously to this site about a staph infection I acquired back in November 2009 and how I was having such success with the allicin from garlic. I have recently contracted a virus and was in need of alternative medicines. A friend with the same problem recommended a zapper machine to kill the symptoms and the virus itself and so I purchased it, solely interested in retarding the progression of the virus. Along with success with that, came unexpected success with the zapper and the persistant staph infection. Though now no more than a shadow that I can feel, the staph has been there waiting. With the zapper and the allicin from garlic, however, it seems to be killing it even more rapidly. I purchased a zapper out of Canada and I love it. It's reducing achne, the virus, the staph, etc. It is actually amplifying the benefits of the allicin. I think perhaps this combination may be able to raise the dead, ha! Talk about a miracle cure for my apparent bad luck."
08/19/2013: Gita from Va replies: "What the heck is a zapper? Please give details. Thanks."
08/19/2013: Steve from Las Vegas replies: "A zapper is a battery powered device (9v) that used dc microcurrent electricity to kill pathogens in the bloodstream and in the body. They are available on ebay from about $30 on up. I have had several different models and they do help by killing pathogens and giving the body which is bioelectric a mild boost of energy. Worth investigating."
[YEA] 12/14/2009: Pam from East Lansing, Mi: "Turmeric for MRSA! Halleluia! I have been getting folliculitis and cellulitis on and off for over two years. They tell me I have colonized MRSA and other than antibiotics they don't offer much in the way of help or hope.
My daughter was graduating from college on Saturday (I am 52) and on the Thursday before, I had two boils and the beginnings of a third. Sobbing, I was on the internet, once again, and I stumbled on this website. I use turmeric often in cooking and I know that it has anti-inflammatory properties.
I took a tsp with some coconut oil and water at 8pm, applied a poultice of baking soda and turmeric and went to bed. When I woke, the pain had gone from a constant 7 to maybe a 3 but the real surprise was how they had shrunk in size just overnight. Stunned, is all I can say. I followed up with three doses of a tsp with milk or oil and applied poultices again the second night. WOW. Wow. Wow. I pray this continues to work, I am amazed and eternally grateful. THANKS SO MUCH!"
[YEA] 11/19/2009: Boris from Vancouver, Bc, Canada: "I'll add another "yea" to the growing pile of positive feedbacks for turmeric treating staph.
Ailment: I have been suffering with chronic folliculitis (s.aureus was cultured) in my beard area. Usually 5-10 active boils are present at any one time, varying in size from a single hair follicule to deep, 2cm diameter nodules.
Prior Treatments: I have tried just about everything under the sun for this: antibiotics for three months; prescription antibiotic cream; medicated shampoos; chlorhexidine washing; tea tree oil; witch hazel; apple cider vinegar rinses; not shaving (I grew a beard three years ago when this started). All were ineffective. I seem to get reinfected over and over again, even though I take care to use clean towels, pillowcases, etc.
Turmeric: Now this is more like it. The turmeric really works. The effect was not immediate, like so many report, although it was quick. I started taking full-spectrum highly concentrated turmeric capsules (400mg, 3X per day) and it took about three days to notice the healing. At first the inflammation calmed down, and those nasty boils began to retreat. I've been on it for four days without any new outbreaks and the last of pre-turmeric boils fading away. No other treatment (doctor- or self-prescribed) has been nearly as effective.
Kudos to Earth Clinic and all those Earth Clinicians out there for pointing me in the right direction!"
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 11/04/2009: Dhildreth from Berkeley, Ca, United States: "MRSA and Tumeric
When i was first diagnosed with MRSA, i was beyond dismayed. As my symptoms became more intense and frequent i was horrified and disgusted with my own body and felt that i could confide in no one, not even my doctor. i was initially misdiagnosed, completed rounds of antibiotics that did had no affect (which did not seem to be a read flag to my doctor), and i went through a bureaucratic nightmare for nearly half a year before demanding to be referred to an infectious disease specialist who told me that all of the MRSA remedies i read on earth clinic were B.S.
i had just finished a round of septra for a particularly difficult boil when i started taking turmeric, about 2 tsps in water 3 times daily. the effect turmeric has had on my skin is unbelievable. i never could have foreseen such a dramatic recovery. although there is no cure for MRSA, i have been able to live boil free for nearly a three months by maintaining this regiment.
i have also committed to a vegetarian diet with dramatically less sugar and flour which cause an acidic imbalance that fuels MRSA.
on a personal note, earthclinic gave me a sense of community when i was most despondent. it gave me hope, encouragement and a remedy that has provided me with a new lease on life. i only wish i had discovered this site earlier, but feel so blessed to have come across it.
for everyone dealing with MRSA, i just want to say that you are not alone, you are loved and you can and will get through this. i care and many others do as well."
