"Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a bacterium responsible for difficult-to-treat infections in humans. It may also be referred to as multiple-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or oxacillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (ORSA). The organism is often sub-categorized as Community-Associated MRSA (CA-MRSA) or Hospital-Associated MRSA (HA-MRSA) depending upon the circumstances of acquiring disease, based on current data that these are distinct strains of the bacterial species.

MRSA is a resistant variation of the common bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. It has evolved an ability to survive treatment with beta-lactam antibiotics, including penicillin, methicillin, and cephalosporins. MRSA is especially troublesome in hospital-associated (nosocomial) infections. In hospitals, patients with open wounds, invasive devices, and weakened immune systems are at greater risk for infection than the general public. Hospital staff who do not follow proper sanitary procedures may transfer bacteria from patient to patient." (Wikipedia)

TED'S REMEDIES

11/19/2006: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "MRSA outbreaks in Thailand? Possibly it comes from the pollutants and birds (excellent carriers for many diseases, bugs, etc) here in my home. However, boils outbreak I think is difficult but they tend to occur during the "vegetarian festivities" here in Thailand.

The reason why is really simple, most white flour which is used in cooking during the festivities is used in the food, so people consume more.

They are very acid forming food, next to soda pop that is banned in schools in U.S. at least, but not here. Some milk actually added fluoride, so that doesn't help either. These acid forming food, especially flour, do get easily contaminated quite easily with fungus, etc. The body's immune system simply stops for about 2 hours in presence of sugar, the fact that some cola adds phosphoric acid simply make things worse.

The outbreak, therefore is more tied to the diets which lowers your immune system, such as sugar, and white flour found in bread being the worse offender of these MRSA and an outbreak as well as weight gain often occur or coincide during and after the vegetarian festivities.

I am not a pro meat or a pro vegetarian either. What I am saying is white flour is one of the worse offenders of acid forming food (next to soda pop) and the rise in use of sugar often rises to coincide with the vegetarian festivities. I once got a terrible boils in the buttocks similar to Kathryn, but the source of it i knew to be ice cream, but chocolate or cocoa strangely enough causes pimples but not boils.

So the way to stop boils at least for me was taking plenty of zinc, chromium, vanadium and baking soda to alkalize my body. Drain whatever pus that occurs in the boils to dry them.

Being especially careful to avoid both sugar AND acid forming food is the best way to remove these antibiotic resistant out of the body. You don't have to buy an elaborate lists of kinds of acid forming list, just remember to simply stay away from sugar and flour. They are easier to remember, getting too particular can confuse you. Certain supplements, you need to be wary if you take too much as they too are acid forming, whose supplements name have the words "hydrochloride", such as pyridoxine hydrochloride, a vitamin B6. A better substitute is pyridoxal 5 phosphate.

Antibiotics no longer works with me, actually it had not work for at least 10 years now, regardless of the kinds of antibiotics I use. And this is why I have remedies to get around this issue for at least 10 years now. Ted"

ACAI BERRY, ALOE, PROBIOTICS FOR MRSA

1 YEA

[YEA]  07/21/2008: Jennifer (LJ6981@hotmail.com) from east haven, CT writes: "I gave birth to my son in 1/2007 and contracted mrsa in my blood and almost died. My son also contracted mrsa a few days after his birth on his skin. My son and I were in the hospital for a month after his birth. I ended up getting 5 additional surgeries to the c-section. I was on a wound vac and vanco and batriband, minocyclin, batrim...I tried so many drugs and never felt right and the mrsa would always come back, I was on antibiotics and IV's for 7 months and nothing worked. I was getting so frustrated!

Then, I started looking at natural cures and tried many. Finally, I found something that worked. Acai berry juice, Aloe vera juice and Udo's Choice probiotics. Take 2 oz Acai berry juice with 1oz aloe juice in the am and then again in the pm. I started out taking 12 probiotics a day 3 in the am, pm, after dinner and before bed. The first few days my body flushed out - try to start doing this on a weekend or when you are not to busy bc you will be in the bathroom for at least a day. Do this regimen for 2 weeks, then lower the juices to 1 oz of each in the am and pm and slowly reduce the probiotics (12 to 11...). If the mrsa comes back add an extra probiotic (11 to 12). After everything I tried this was the only thing that worked for me! It has been a year that I have been doing this regimen, I still drink the juices and I am taking 6 probiotics a day.
Please let me know if this works for you, if you have any questions you can e-mail me at LJ6981@hotmail.com."

ACTIVATED OXYGEN GEL

1 YEA

[YEA]  08/22/2008: Robert from Fife, Scotland writes: "after suffering for 7 years, with an abcess, below the groin, and having tried everything, it would always come back leaving me in agony,
i searched the internet for all sorts of treatments, rather than take anti biotics which turn my skin yellow. i stumbled upon a site called activated oxygen i phoned them up here in the uk, and bought a pot of activated oxygen gel. i can only describe this as a miracle, i am currently on my third pot of activated oxygen, my abcess which had 5 holes, is about 97% cleared up to date, and this is only applying it topically. I am not sure if you can post links but google it and you have all the info there, it's amazing stuff."

BAKING SODA, SALT, HONEY

1 YEA    1 WORKED TEMPORARILY

[YEA]  03/01/2008: Elyne S writes: "Just wanted to let you know that I have been having steady relief using honey, baking soda & a pinch of salt on my boils and tiny, pimply, bump-rash (associated with MRSA) by daily application with bandaids. Growing up we used baking soda-salt to extract poison from stings and bites. Hearing of the water-extraction capabilities of honey led me to add it to the formula with good success. This isn't an isolated remedy however because I've also been eating garlic sandwiches with herbs!"

[YEA]07/22/2008: Nicole from San Francisco, CA replies: "thank you for this website....my 1 1/2 year old has been treated by doctors in the past for mrsa, this time when she got a boil (size of a golf ball) on her belly, i didnt take her to the doctors, instead i give her two 30-40 min warm baths a day, and then i waited until it came to a head, after it started to drain i put a tablespoon of baking soda and mixed it with a little water at a time until a got a nice paste, (baby didn't mind) covered it with gaze and tape. the baking soda helped drain it a lot. once the boil was down about three days later and turned into a big big crater, i stopped the baking soda and started using honey, overnight, it looked so much better its almost gone, baking soda/honey help my baby girl fight off that nasty bug ..it works!!! and its not painful for baby."

[WORKED TEMPORARILY]10/10/2008: Bonnie from Laurel, MD replies: "I have been battling with MRSA for almost a year now and am really frustrated. I have tried the baking soda and vinegar which help expedite the healing of the boil but didn't prevent me from getting them. I notice that you mention the use of honey. Is this regular honey from the grocery store or is this raw honey from the healthfood store?"

BATHS WITH BLEACH

2 YEA    1 WARNING!

[YEA]  01/25/2007: Joshua from Waverly, OH writes: "I have been having outbreaks for about 3 years now. I've found that when the sores are at their worst a HOT(as tolerable!)bath in a tub full of clear water and 1/2 cup of Clorox for 20-30 minutes speeds up the healing process. Afterwards invest in Lysol-and lots of it! Wash and change bedding daily and spray everything you touch with Lysol. In about 10 days you can rid all surfaces in your' home, negating the spread of MRSA infection!"

[WARNING!]09/19/2008: Dr. Health from Vancouver, Washington replies: "Bleach? That's the craziest advice I have ever heard. I hope nobody takes this advice!"

10/21/2008: JLynn from Arlington, Tx replies: "I don't know about bathing with bleach but I do know that whenever I have had problems with re occurring boils adding bleach to my laundry, all delicates, it seems to help with the boils not coming back."

[YEA]10/28/2008: Jamila from Springfield, Va replies: "My daughter was diagnosed with recurring MRSA and one of the remedies both her doctor and her nurse recommended was adding bleach to her baths twice a week. They did not say anything about treating the boils, but it is supposed to prevent future colonization of MRSA when used in conjunction with an antibiotic regimine, daily disinfection of household surfaces, and daily laundering of bed clothes with bleach. I have read that bleach baths are also a great treatment for eczema, which my daughter also has."

CAYENNE

1 YEA

[YEA]  02/25/2008: Jake from Chicago, IL writes: "For Amanda from Terre Haute, Indiana. I had something festering on my leg and think it may have been MRSA - from a workout room where my shins touched a piece of equipment.  I immediately put cayenne powder on it and stopped the bleeding and it healed up over the next week with that one application.  I think it might be worth a try to rub cayenne powder on it to see if that might not do it."

02/23/2008: Amanda from Terre Haute, Indiana replies: "Thank you so very much for providing such a helpful website. I am a 20 year old girl, I feel like MRSA has taken my life and shattered it to pieces. I am against taking harsh, expensive drugs from the Doctor because of the side effects and price. I have been taking Turmeric tablets, and magnesium chloride tablets for a while now. I have one boil on a sensitive part of my body for months now, almost a year, and it's both painful and big. I have taken natural vinegar with honey and put it on the effected area. It seems to clear it up, but it shortly refesters and swells. I have no energy, I sleep a lot and am in a serious depression because of what this has done to me. Is there any way I could take a supplement to regain my strength? I would love to live again. Thank you again for such a great website and tips."

CLINDOXYL HELPS CLEAR UP STAPH PROBLEM

1 YEA

[YEA]  11/15/2006: Boris writes: "My staph problem is clearing up with a topical application of clindoxyl, however I did want to comment on Ted's suggestion of zinc and manganese supplements for oily skin. Oily skin can help create conditions for stubborn bacterial infections for the bacteria feeds off all that excess sebum. Prior to Ted's suggestion I had been supplementing with 75mg of zinc gluconate with 10mg of tin oxide for about a month with perhaps the result of clearing up seborrheic dermatitis around my nose, eyebrows and ear folds. I still had very oily skin on my face and scalp though. As was recommended, I've been supplementing with a cup of soy milk along with 50mg of chelated manganese for six days now and my face is noticeably less oily. I've also been taking in 150mg of flax lignan, which I've read also helps. At any rate, something here is working. I'll continue to supplement with the manganese for another week, as per Ted's suggestion. Perhaps this info could be cross-posted to the acne page as well. Thank you!"

EC: Thanks for the feedback, Boris. We will put it on the acne page, as you suggested.

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Yes, my common treatment for oily skin - zinc and manganese. Too much of it will cause dry skin, which means it is time to discontinue. For acne, some chromium supplements will complement the treatment as well as zinc. People who take too much sugar do have acne, which is why sometimes chromium is helpful."

COLLOIDAL SILVER

2 YEA

[YEA]  07/12/2007: Amy from Austin, Texas writes: "When my gynecologist told me that my lesion was possibly MRSA since I had only a month before had a boil on my face, she said that after taking Bactrim for 10 days I should start putting Neosporin in my nose, if the MRSA infection was confirmed. I wanted to do something sooner, while still taking the Bactrim, and so researched and got some colloidal silver and put either drops or swabs of it in my nose 1-2 times a day for a week, as well as applying it to the wound with a swab. I read that it would not interfere with the antibiotics. The lesion had been lanced, and when I had my follow-up, I was healing very well. I have had no more boils yet. I can't say for sure that the colloidal silver did the trick, but from what I've read, it can be very effective with short term use (10 days or so) and if I get another boil, I will apply some directly right away."

[YEA]  07/14/2008: Christy (sanders_christy@hotmail.com) from Springfield, OR writes: "I did it! I cured my son's MRSA that he was fighting for quite sometime. The boils were hurting him so bad it broke my heart. I just about came to the end of my rope when the physicians wanted to try him on another dose of antibiotics. I did my research on Allicin figured I had nothing else to loose. It took sometime to find the mg of Allicin that I was looking for (450 mg). I found some that was 490 mg and cost 1/4th as much as I was quoted at other nutritional stores. 7 pills for 5 weeks and he is cured! The doctors can't believe it. This Garlic Onion complex that I found is a LIFESAVER!! If you have trouble finding it locally please ask me and I will let you know of the company that I use. Good luck to everyone. [YEA]  03/08/2008: Cathy (Cathy@optimalhealthusa.com) from Marin County, CA writes: "Hello everyone, Our family survived a vicious attack of flesh eating MRSA. I know this will be hard to believe, however we dealt with MRSA ourselves. My two sons were viciously attacked by flesh eating boils. I had a more mild attack. The boils my sons had grew to the size of small grapefruits.

My oldest son came home one day with a bad "spider bite" -- it slowly healed. A week later 6 more boils came back and they were literally eating away at his legs within a few hours. We took him to our family doctor of 20 yrs plus, and his nurse practitioner threw Septra, Doxycicline, and Murpirocin ointment at the infection. Our doctor called us and told us not to worry. He said that they have never had the antibiotics fail to kill the infection and that it would not come back.

Well, it did come back within 10 days after using the drugs correctly. The drugs did cause the infection to retreat which was a part of what save his life because it bought us time to research. We also consulted with an Infectious Disease Doctor and he confirmed my thinking, the doctors are experimenting to see which antibiotic might kill MRSA. At that point I lost confidence in doctors and antibiotics and decided to research and pray.

Our lives depended on finding something that would cause the boils to go away. We did find something and it was pure and concentrated Allicin. We used it as suggested and got the results we needed. Since we used physicians strength pure and stable Allicin, we have not had any signs or symptoms of MRSA for over 2 yrs.

My youngest son who also had flesh eating boils, did not need any antibiotics or medical care at all since we used pure Allicin. We did keep in close contact with our doctors through our recovery process. We used Allicin (research links below) topically and internally.  Physicians strength Allicin needs to be used properly to achieve the desired results.

Because of our recovery and the recovery of many others using pure Allicin, I want to help others. I am not a doctor or health practitioner and I do not give medical advice.  I have been able to help many to get the same desired results that our family had. I am blessed and honored to do so.  I have provided research links for all of you below.  Feel free to email us if you would like our help with where to purchase
physicians strength pure and stable Allicin and how to use it properly. God bless, Cathy

GRATED RAW POTATOES

1 YEA

[YEA]  08/11/2007: Christine Greehy from Melbourne, Florida writes: "My son experienced MRSA and I successfully used Earthclinic's recommendation for Tumeric, baking soda, and sea salt. However, though his wound was getting much better, we still had to drain the puss from the wound 2x a day which was very painful for him and opened his wound even more.

A friend told me to put grated raw potato on the open wound and let it sit until the gratings turned black. We did one application and never was able to get out any puss after that! It sped the healing of MRSA used in conjunction with the tumeric, baking soda, sea salt paste. I was told to apply it to any infection as drawling salve. Amazing!!!"

HERBS, DIET, ACV AND BAKING SODA

1 YEA

[YEA]  06/05/2008: Phylene Gaffney (phyeneg@hotmail.com) from Barrow, Alaska writes: "Staph Remedies: Living in the Northern most region has caused my body to go through various changes. I have found the lack of sunlight, long dark cold winters and heavy polluted winds over the ocean from China are definitely part of the problem. Originally I only had a small bump on the side of my nose. Other problems, such as blood pressure increase caused my to go to the hospital and get checked. Unfortunately, doctors here are not familiar with many strains of staph and did not get a diagnosis, but wanted me on blood pressure pills. This went on until I finally went to Colorado and saw a Chinese Herbalist who tested me and found the staph. Since that time I have had herbal tonic, clean diet, vinegar/baking soda/honey and water mix and LIMU cleanse. Natural cures seem to take along time but it is slowly healing. It is been about a year. I believe if I was in a different area with green plants and sunshine it would probably heal faster."

HOLY GRAIL FOR BOIL CARE

1 YEA

[YEA]  08/05/2006: Sean from Milwaukee, WI writes: "I am going to try to give a good synopsis of what I have learned from infectious disease doctors (several), and many naturalists. At the FIRST sign of a boil (yes even a painful pimple), I would start with the following:

Wash thoroughly twice a day for at least 10 days (or longer if you still have the boil) with either:

a) enough good quality(dr bronners baby unscented is great) liquid soap to wash you entire body to which you add approx 5 drops of good quality 100% pure Tea Tree Oil, for each washing. or

b) A chlorhexidine solution available over the counter under the brand name Hibiclens (this is the western medicine option)

Ok, this is the most important step! Don't skip it, you will regret it when you have a relapse.

Take a small clean glass jar and mix about 2-3ml (think thimble full or less) of KY jelly or equivalent with 1-2 drops of 100% pure Tea tree oil. Cap jar and shake to mix completely. Take a cotton swab (q-tip) and dip it in the solution and apply it to the inside of your nostrils, one clean swab full per nostril (it will sting a bit at first but you'll get used to it fast). Once you have it in both nostrils pinch your nose closed and squish your nose around to spread it out inside your nose. Do this twice a day religiously until 10 days after you are boil free. Then do it 2-3 times per week for a month. This step is super important because MRSA will usually hang on in your nose even after all infection appears gone just to rear its ugly head again when conditions are right. (an antibiotic like mupriocin would be used by a western doctor worth his salt)

Supplements:
Zinc 50mg-90mg daily (never more than 100mg)
Vitamin A (one softgel) daily,
Turmeric 1tsp (or two 00 caps) 3 times daily (thanks Earth Clinic!),
Neem (1 capsule) twice daily.

I currently consider this the holy grail of knowledge on natural MRSA treatment. I hope to post an update with more details soon. Good Luck!"

8/5/2006: Shawn adds more to his earlier post: "Apply 1 drop of 100% pure Tea Tree oil directly to the boil and cover with Band-Aid (or a telfa (nonstick) pad with tape for large boils) 2-3 times daily.

Avoid using plain gauze, it tends to make the boil dry out or scab over. You want to keep it moist.

I suggest using a moist compress as hot as you can stand it (i use a tea kettle), apply tea tree and/ lavender oil to maximize effect. Do this several times per day (inconvenient, but so are boils!)

And, of course, NEVER SQUEEZE A BOIL! it can spread the infection very quickly to the surrounding tissue.

If you see red spider web like lines around the boil, see a doctor immediately. This can be a sign of the infection spreading to the blood, which is very dangerous.

Once a boil has a white tip or has opened, it should be kept covered and treated liberally with tea tree directly into the wound if possible.

Notes on Tea Tree Oil : Has been shown very effective against MRSA, nearly as effective as the best antibiotics.

To test for sensitivity to tea tree oil: apply a drop on inner arm and cover with a Band-Aid. Wait 1-2hrs and remove Band-Aid if redness or swelling occurs you should not use tea tree."

HOT COMPRESSES, OATMEAL WITH BAKING SODA

1 YEA

[YEA]  10/08/2007: Shone from Grants Pass, Oregon writes: "I have had a horrible time! I first started out with MRSA on my leg.
I guess I get it harder then most. Because first it starts with a head ache and flu like symptoms and 100 to 103 fever. Last I got the boil on my left leg just up from my knee.
I tried heat, I tried tea tree oil and I tried baking soda and oatmeal.
The heat felt good.
The tea tree oil did nothing.
The baking soda hurt and did draw it out.
The oatmeal hurt and did draw it out.
Together baking soda and oatmeal did the best.
I still had to go to the doctor and they gave me antibiotics.
It never totally went away. It was still this little spot. But I thought ok. I am out of antibiotics but maybe my body will take care of it.
About 2 weeks later. I got a head ache and it felt like some one had kicked me in the tail bone also no energy and 103 fever. Next thing I know I have a huge boil on the inside of my left butt cheek just down from my tail bone.
Its the week end so I say to hell with it. I go the the ER. Wait for 2 hours. Then they get me in. Give me painkiller and cut the thing open and drain it.
They gave me different antibiotics this time.
I have been on them. The thing has been draining like mad.
It stopped draining after a few days.
Now I am out of the antibiotics and the boil is not totally gone.
I am afraid again and have no clue what to do.
Here is some advise I would like to give.
If you get a boil drained.
You must! Use hot compresses and maybe oatmeal mixed with baking soda in a paste on it. Also take hot soaks for 20 minutes 2 times a day. Do not let this thing close until it is totally MT!
I give this advice because I wish to god I had done all of this.
I feel if I had I would not be worried now.
Wondering what the heck should I do now!"

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE AND WITCH HAZEL WITH TEA TREE OIL

By the time I had let it go on I awoke to find this now open sore with my knee looking like a volcano. It was spitting like a snake and the 1st thing I did was start with Hydrogen Peroxide putting it on this sore 3 - 4 times per day. I awoke to relief the very next day and over all I have a little mark that was like the size of a dime that has faded since we are coming up on a year soon since this happened to me. It pulled the infection from this sore and is a total lifesaver."

IODINE

1 YEA

[YEA]  12/16/2006: Carolyn from Hollywood, FL writes: "Iodine straight onto the boils and doing it several times a day washing with antibiotic soap in between applications. This got rid of the satellite boils and reduced the mother boil down to a tiny bump so far. I know, you have to completely get rid of it or it regenerates itself. I am also doing the turmeric to try to clean the MRSA out of my system, which I know it must have been there for years. Iodine (put plenty on top of the boils), cured all the satellite baby boils and reduced the first boil (which was about 1 and 1/4 inch in diameter when it first appeared), to a tiny lump smaller than a pea. Yes, we had heavy rain before the first big boil appeared on my cheek. Also, I went out shopping the day before the first one appeared. Yes, there are a lot of jets here because we are near the Ft. Lauderdale airport. But I have no idea where MRSA comes from or why the boils appeared. About a year ago, I first had on my forehead something that looked like an infected insect bite and it refused to heal. It bled periodically and seemingly after it looked like it was healed over. The little lumps were still there. I could feel them under the skin. But after about 8 solid months of applying triple antibiotic cream, it finally went away. No more little lumps under my skin in that location. This is what I am trying to do now, get this mother boil to finally disappear. I will send more information when I have it. I am 64, retired, live a quiet life. Like to garden, maybe this MRSA is in the soil... If it is in the air, then it naturally would be in the soil and therefore on veggies we buy, etc. There were no changes in what I usually eat so I don't think it is diet related, not sure."

KEFIR

1 YEA

[YEA]  07/23/2007: Carolyn from Hollywood, Florida writes: "My very restricted vegetarian diet with sea salt and turmeric, has helped my MRSA boils condition tremendously, but I wanted to tell you I just began making and drinking kefir. After only one day, the wannabe boil which was trying to form on my bottom for over a month, receded and is extremely small now. I bought my kefir "grains" from Mike who is in Daytona Beach, Florida and who does NOT overcharge for the grains or postage as do many people on the net. His website is www.bacteriapimp.com and he also sells on eBay which is where I found him. He has Kombucha grains too, which I have not tried as yet because I am getting used to making kefir correctly. Kefir contains approx. 30 kinds of good bacteria and helps to jumpstart the good bacteria in the gut. Mike gives a lot of good information and he is a truly kind and wonderful caring human being. Anyone can please write to me anytime. My skin is clear now and my energy is back. Is my diet icky??? YES. Does it work to inhibit boils? YES."

MAGNESIUM

1 MAYBE

[MAYBE]  05/15/2008: Leah Huete (thiswhiterabbit@gmail.com) from Baltimore, MD writes: "I am writing about all of the people who have talked about tumeric or garlic as a potential cure for MRSA.

I've been doing some studying and there is a commonality I've found in these items:

Magnesium
Tumeric: http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/item/2043.html
Very high in manganese and high in magnesium.

Garlic:
http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/item/11215.html
Very high in manganese (both also very low in sugar and in fats)

French Green Clay has been touted as curing MRSA -HIGH IN MAGNESIUM

Antibiotics and poor digestive tract absorption will cause a magnesium deficiency.

Antibiotics kill off beneficial organisms in the gut, causing loose bowels, which decreases absorption.

"Antibiotics can also lower magnesium availability. Included on the antibiotic list are neomycin, tetracycline, erythromycin, ***sulfamethoxazole****, and sulfonamides.

Other medications that reduce the body's supply of magnesium include the anticoagulant drug warfarin; corticosteroids; oral contraceptives (birth control pills); and the immunosuppressant drug cyclosporine."

http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=75Magnesium deficiency

"Antibiotics (e.g. gentamicin and amphotericin) These drugs may increase the loss of magnesium in urine. Thus, taking these medications for long periods of time may contribute to magnesium depletion [9-10,12]."

http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/magnesium.asp

"Because magnesium plays such a wide variety of roles in the body, the symptoms of magnesium deficiency can also vary widely. Many symptoms involve changes in nerve and muscle function. These changes include muscle weakness, tremor, and spasm. In the heart muscle, magnesium deficiency can result in arrhythmia, irregular contraction, and increased heart rate. Because of its role in bone structure, the softening and weakening of bone can also be a symptom of magnesium deficiency. Other symptoms can include: imbalanced blood sugar levels; headaches; elevated blood pressure; elevated fats in the bloodstream; depression; seizures; nausea; vomiting; and lack of appetite. "

http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=75

"Deficiency symptoms have three categories:Early symptoms include irritability, anorexia, fatigue, insomnia, and muscle twitching. Other symptoms include poor memory, apathy, confusion, and reduced ability to lea. Moderate deficiency symptoms consist of rapid heartbeat and other cardiovascular changes. Severe deficiency of magnesium could lead to tingling, numbness, sustained contraction of the muscles, and hallucinations and delirium. "

What Magnesium does in your body:

"Magnesium: What is it?Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and is essential to good health. Approximately 50% of total body magnesium is found in bone. The other half is found predominantly inside cells of body tissues and organs. Only 1% of magnesium is found in blood, but the body works very hard to keep blood levels of magnesium constant [1].

Magnesium is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. It helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, keeps heart rhythm steady, supports a healthy immune system, and keeps bones strong. Magnesium also helps regulate blood sugar levels, promotes normal blood pressure, and is known to be involved in energy metabolism and protein synthesis [2-3].

There is an increased interest in the role of magnesium in preventing and managing disorders such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Dietary magnesium is absorbed in the small intestines. Magnesium is excreted through the kidneys [1-3,4]."

Also

"Magnesium ions are essential to the basic nucleic acid chemistry of life, and thus are essential to all cells of all known living organisms. Plants have an additional use for magnesium in that chlorophylls are magnesium-centered porphyrins. Many enzymes require the presence of magnesium ions for their catalytic action, especially enzymes utilizing ATP, or those which use other nucleotides to synthesize DNA and A."

Magnesium is VERY important to support a healthy immune system http://grande.nal.usda.gov/ibids/index.php?mode2=detail&origin=ibids_references&therow=747350 http://web.mit.edu/london/www/magnesium.html

Now I will say I am drawing correlations which are not scientifically proven. They are loose correlations and drawn conclusions. I am not affiliated with any health products or sites or doctors, I am not advocating the use of any health food product (it's really best to go natural with regards to vitamin intake). I have been suffering from fatigue, CA-MRSA, sleeplessness, arrythmia and bloating. I'm going to try more magnesium!

Magnesium rich foods:

I challenge scientists to work with magnesium and MRSA. "

MANUKA HONEY

2 YEA

[YEA]  06/22/2008: Angie from Las Vegas, NV writes: "I started using Manuka Honey on my outbreaks after 10 horrible months of recurring MRSA boil outbreaks, unfriendly & unhelpful doctors, painful cutting and draining. Once I received the honey I started putting a poultice of it on the boils overnight. Not a lot of honey but enough to cover the boil completely then cover it with gauze. The boils now only last 2-3 days and do not get very large. Now I need to find a way to stop getting them! At least I haven't needed antibiotics since I started using the honey which is wonderful because I became allergic to the Bactrim after 6 months of almost constant use."

[YEA]  10/21/2006: Joanne from Victoria, BC Canada writes: "Manuka honey is being used in many places (UK, Australia, New Zealand) for treatment of MRSA. One teaspoon morning and night for prevention and up to 3 tsp. once or twice a day for an internal infection. It can also be used topically to stop skin infection, 50/50 with water in an atomizer for chest infections, along with many other uses. One potential reason for its effectiveness may be the existence of small amount of naturally occurring hydrogen peroxide in the honey, although researchers put it down to "Manuka factor," an unknown active ingredient."

MISC RECOMMENDATIONS

1 YEA

[YEA]  06/28/2008: Patrick (bklynred@gmail.com) from New Haven, CT writes: "So I've been battling with Staph for many years...I think I may have caught it in high school or college as I was a dancer. I've gone every route possible...expensive derm Dr.'s in NY...anything that I could find to kill germs...EVERYTHING! Last November I visited the most amazing naturopath in Santa Fe... Govinda McCrostey. Three things to do.

1. sugar and anything the body turns into sugar feeds the staph.
2. Natural anti-bacterials such as Olive Leaf Extract, Uva Ursi, Usnea, Melissa, Noni, Colloidal Silver will all work on ridding the body.
3. Stop any crazy body and household cleaners and go the natural route. Treat your body and the environment you live in gently and it will calm down. I have been using very gentle soaps and moisturizing (BWC Vitamin C Lotion)

It's summer in NY and usually I'm covered in red dots. Well...this summer one or two. I put a bit of colloidal silver on them, maybe a bit of Apple Cider Vinegar, and all is good. No boils, no crazy infections and no pain. So...feel free to contact me for my thoughts but keep the diet clean (honestly I'm so bad at that) and avoid the sugar."
