My observation is baking soda changes brain chemistry. I have been regularly drinking half a teaspoon of baking soda upon awakening, usually at 4-5am because I have many health issues of unknown origin. Every single time after I drunk the baking soda, I experience lucid dreams in that 1.5-2 HR sleep before morning. This made me think that it does change brain chemistry which in turn creates vivid dreams.
I can't switch off the breaker (neighbors on the same breaker), but started sleeping with my head at the "foot" of the bed - i.e. away from the wall and therefore away from the electrical field running through the wires in the wall - and I've been sleeping much more peacefully since then. I also unplug everything (except the fridge) from the wall sockets before I go to sleep. Blissful peace that I remember from childhood when I used to sleep in the back yard.
5 HTP and L-Tyrosine
Yes effective but so pricey... I have used L tyrosine more for mood elevation and constructive thinking. But one day I discovered the web page "rapid recovery from depression using magnesium" and on that page are the rays of hope that made me try magnesium (and I use the cheapest form of it Magenesium sulphate-epsom salts) 3 weeks later I walked around for days saying what is up? what is different? Then I realised the grey cloud that had been with me for 30 years was gone... About a teaspoon a day in divided dose... Cheap cheap cheap!!! I am FREE... I have not been swept away in a depressive state since... 5 years now =-) sure bad days come but not the feeling of losing yourself not knowing when you will be back... If you have salt issues there are other forms of magnesium...
It could also be a sign that you are dehydrated and need to drink extra glasses of water whenever you take your baking soda. If you are speaking of heighten and very bright colors in dreams, as a young woman during my three days fast of no water and no food, in the summer months I would get these heighten colored dreams.
Cayenne pepper worked almost immediately at increasing the amount, duration, and intensity of my dreams. I've been taking a couple capsules with each meal and the first night I had the most vivid dreams. Recall has also improved dramatically. My dreams are incredibly real and I'm much more interactive with the people also; it's like life in another dimension or something. Cayenne is amazing! :)
This isn't a "remedy" so much as a crystal gemstone, an Amethyst actually. I have a 5 pound, 5 inch tall amethyst crystal that sits right by my head as I sleep. (There's a small ledge on my headboard that's really low). I didn't realize how much the crystal affect me until I moved it away in a different room for a bit. Suddenly my dreams were getting harder to remember and it was sad! So I put it back and within a few nights, I was able to have greatly enhanced dream recall.
Chamomille tea helps me relax, and induces dreams. If want to remember them, make it a point to ask to do so.
I have just started taking MSM (literally 2 days) and I had the most amazingly vivid dreams last night. I wondered if anyone else has experienced this using MSM?
I dont mind the dreams if I can finally fade these hideous brown patches on my face!
I can't tell you what a relief it is to have found this site where I can finally talk about this with others who understand what I'm going through..
thanks and good luck everyone with being rid of melasma
I can see someone wanting to induce dreams for the fun of it and on a day off the next day but if you need a good nights rest, you certainly don't need to be dreaming or remembering your dreams (we all dream all the time). If you remember your dreams and the more clearer they are that means you are semi-conscious and not resting. A deep non-dream state is what you are shooting for if a good nights rest are your goals.
You shouldn't be tired from dreaming. On the contrary, I receive some interesting concepts on living from my dreams.
Remedies to Induce Dreaming: I usually don't dream, but I have found out that whenever I take Melatonin to sleep, I have the most vividly realistic dreams I could ever imagine.
I have suffered from insomnia since childhood (I am now in my 30s), and it has been crippling to my life, to say the least. About a month ago, my husband and I decided to try turning off all breakers in our house at night, except for the one attached to the refrigerator. Since doing so, I have slept very well, even experiencing deep REM sleep. I have vivid dreams every night. My husband has experienced the same thing -- deep sleep, many dreams. It's worth a try if you have trouble sleeping. As I understand it, the EMFs interfere with hormones in the body. Some people are very sensitive to EMFs. I believe somebody else on this site suggested not using the computer or cell phone before bed, but my suggestion takes the idea a bit further.
I agree. Last year we started shutting the breaker off at night to save money on our electric bill. Not only did it decrease our bill by almost half, we found that we were sleeping much better at night. Try it for a week and see if you feel better. I bet you will.
Hi! I have been reading this website since last few days and I am hooked to it! I really am grateful to all the contributors who are giving their tips and helpful posts. Pardon my ignorance, but I have difficulty in understanding some abbreviations used here, EMF for eg.
What does EMF mean?
EC: See this page:
I'm sensitive to EMF's and I noticed that in certain areas where there's a lot of noise pollution there is a constant ringing sound. I don't sleep well with lights, noise, or tv on. Melatonin may help with the Insomnia too, it balances the body's reaction and you can handle all the artificial light from computers, tv, etc. And have a more natural sleep.
I have to agree with you on the EMF's. I found out the hard way. I worked at a Casino for 2 years, before we figured out why I was sick so much while on the casino floor. I still have Minor issues with EMF's. Limits my work options. After doing much research, I have discovered that EMF's don't effect you if you are able to convert to 12 volt system. I am currently designing a house I plan to build with 12 volts throughout the Living area. My Kitchen and Bath will be a sepearate building attached by a breezeway used for outdoor dining. I know there is at least one case of EMF sensitivity, where you can not even approach with a cell phone in your pocket or the man will pass out. I have slept better with limiting my exposure to 110 volt currents and giving up the cell phone. Hopefully my symptoms will not progress to the point I have to move to a remote mountain in solitude. ALSO, if you want to remember the dreams, write down everything you remember as soon as you wake up. This will allow you to remember more dreams over time. Good luck.
Dream Inducer: I stumbled upon this years ago when I was taking as much as possible to battle a nasty cold bug, but chewable vitamin C tablets (500mg) right before bed produce vivid dreams. I occasionally have some just before bed for fun, and it never fails.
I started taking L-Carnitine (among other supplements) recently and around the same time started to recollect my dreams, about 3-4 a night instead of 1 every once in a while. I didn't make the connection until I stopped the L-Carn last week and almost immediately stopped being able to recall any dreams. I started up again last night and was able to remember 3 dreams this morning. I take 1 TBL on an empty stomach 3x a day.
How many mg of L-Carnitine are you taking for dreaming?
Lobelia and Valerian Root
Valerian is amazing. You have epic dreams. Long drawn out, involved dreams. You wake up feeling like you've been asleep for years. Very relaxed and refreshed. It's great :)
5 HTP and L-Tyrosine
Hi I found 5 htp a couple years ago on the internet , looking for some thing to help my saddness and depression, so i heard about 5 htp , well i was desprite and i took 2 100 every day , it helped me so so much , i go off it some times because the side effects for me are, it makes me get my period more ofton , mind you i think that is when i was taking 300 mg . and also it has caused me to get itchy palms of my hand ,and the back of my head . but now that iv gone down on them and taken a break for a few months , im good . but i have to go on them because it helps me so much for depression . i have just discovered the 5 htp with 200 mg L- Ter , wow as far as im concerned its a bloody mirical . it changes my hole mood . makes me very happy .but for sure one other side effect im not as hungry when im on it . and i dream more vividly . but as fare as im concerned its a wonder drug , sorry for the spelling.lets just hope the drug companys don't take them away .
EC: L-Ter = L-Tyrosine (??)
The drug companies can't take 5-htp and l-tyrosine away, mainly because our body naturally produces these anyway (namely seratonin and dopamine). And besides, they dont' have some sort of agenda to take natural cures away. But they certainly try to diminish their effectiveness by promoting harmful drugs over natural cures.
Lobelia and Valerian Root
Half a dropper of valerian root and half a dropper of lobelia in a little water 15 minutes before bed does wonders for my sleep. It also induces intense dreaming!
