That was really interesting Steve. I had read some on the subject a few years ago, but this has renewed my interest.
I think I will attempt to get rid of the electromagnetic fields in the bedroom first, as so much time is spent there. It certainly can't hurt, and might be of great benefit.
It seems like being conected to the earth would be a very good thing as well. Really interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing it! ~Carly

I have to say that using an earthing or grounding mat in bed at night and at the computer and tv has really helped me. I have been chronically ill for many years and I am making improvements now where before I was either staying the same or getting worse no matter how hard I tried to get well. Buy the sheet -it's worth the money. To start out my husband helped me make up a mat to sleep on. I could see the first night it had made a difference, but I waited about two weeks before I ordered the bed sheet. I LOVE it. I also bought some mocassins with no plastic or rubber for outside, as we live in the desert and you can't walk barefoot outside here.
I still use the homemade mat at the computer and tv.
My emotions are steadier, calmer, my mind is clearer and I can read again. My muscle strength is coming back slowly. I sleep like a ROCK. I fall asleep suddenly and wake up at 5 or 6 am, where before I wanted to stay in bed all day. I awake lying on my right side, which was always a no-no due to reflux, but that is GONE now. Whether its helped my snoring, I'll have to ask, but my sleep is so sound now I can't be doing too much snoring.
I will never stop earthing as long as I live. They will have to tear my earthing sheet out of my cold dead hands, because I'll be trying to take it with me!
Hey everybody! Get in touch with the EARTH! It feels GOOD! And it's FREE!

Radiation
If it does help, for how long should one ground after an aiport scan? How does one know when was all the radiation detoxed and damage repaired?
Earthing on a mat is as beneficial as earthing on the soil/sand/earth/grass? Some claim that man made earthing products are not effective or even harmful...

I don't know if earthing removes radiation, but the typical treatment is iodine.

Foods to naturally detox radiation - With radioactive isotopes were detected in rainwater in Minnesota and other states from the Fukushima nuclear accident, some people are looking into iodine supplements and other ways to protect the long-term health of their families.
While there are a lot of drawbacks to using iodine, there are plenty of foods that naturally protect our bodies from radiation.
Food List:
- Brown rice
- Seaweed
- Kelp
- Miso “seaweed soup”
- Pumpkin
- Spirulina
- Bee pollen
- Wheat grass
- Rosemary
- Blue-green algae
- Beets
- Garlic
- Ginger
- Alfalfa sprouts
- Broccoli
- Onions
- Olive oil
- Leafy greens
- Apples and other sources of pectin
These foods protect the body from radiation in different ways. For instance, brown rice is high in fiber and phosphorous, which help remove harmful toxins from the body. Sea vegetables contain a polysaccharide that binds to radioactive strontium to help eliminate it from the body, as well as being high in natural iodine. Pectin has also been shown to bind to radioactive residues, and Cysteine (in onions) binds with and deactivates radioactive isotopes. Alfalfa sprouts and greens are high in chlorophyll, which has been shown to help protect against radiation damage, as well.
Keep in mind that you should aim for organic and be aware of the sources. For example, fresh sprouted alfalfa sprouts from your windowsill are preferable to those shipped from thousands of miles away (and possibly doused with those isotopes).
Other foods known to detoxify radiation include: bee pollen, beets, broccoli, brown rice, garlic, ginger, leafy greens, olive oil, onions, pumpkin, sea weed, and wheat grass.
Seaweed Soup “Miso” for Radiation Poisoning/Cancer – Traditionally, miso soup begins with a broth called “dashi, ” made by soaking seaweed such as kombu (high in iodine) in water and cooking with bonito flakes (flakes of dried fermented fish).
The late Dr. Akizuki, a medical doctor in Nagasaki, Japan at the time of the atomic bombing, survived and served to help the injured. He observed that these survivors had a common diet practice, which was a traditional Japanese diet enriched with Miso. Dr. Akizuki unfortunately passed away in 2005, but I (the author) was able to interview Mrs. Akizuki, as well as other atomic bomb survivors, a total of 30 people, in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, while I was in Japan in the summer of 2006. Utilizing the interview data, this study will examine atomic bomb survivors' dietary history for the purpose of qualitatively discussing the relationship between traditional Japanese food enriched with Miso and their health conditions after exposure to the atomic bomb. The atomic bombs were tragic events, but we can turn them into valuable lessons that can improve our health and eventually help us find ways to prevent and / or control cancer. My hope is that this study may shed light on the importance of diet to the human body's physical well-being, as well as applying it to today's medicine.
Dr. Akizuki was born in 1916 in Nagasaki and studied medicine at the Kyoto University medical school in order to understand and overcome his own illness and skin disease. Upon graduation, he returned to Nagasaki. He read the books written by George Osawa about the relationship between health and diet. The books made him want to conduct experiments on the effectiveness of the traditional Japanese diet on the human body. He began to work as Director of the Department of Internal Medicine at Urakami Daiihchi Hospital (later St. Francis Hospital) and instituted a strict diet of traditional Japanese food that was based on brown rice, miso and tamari soy soup, seaweed, and sea salt. He also prohibited the patients from consuming sugar and sweets. This diet was served to the patients and staff of the hospital twice everyday. It wasduring this time that the Nagasaki atomic bomb was dropped. The hospital was located approximately 1.4 km away from the hypocenter; therefore, most of the people in the hospital were exposed to the atomic bomb blast directly or indirectly. If they were inside the building, the radiation exposure was indirect, while those outside were most likely directly exposed to the blast and died immediately. Mrs. Akizuki stated that immediately after the bombing, she went outside of the hospital and saw a boy's dead body, whose brain had exploded. He must have been directly hit by the atomic bomb blast.
Fortunately, Dr. Akizuki survived even though he was only 1.4 km away from the epicenter of the explosion. However, many people within that same range suffered from serious health problems such as cataracts, leukemia and other cancers, and premature aging. Within a few months of the nuclear explosions, the number of incidences of leukemia skyrocketed among the survivors, as did cancer rates soon after.iv Dr. Akizuki wrote his memoir book, “The
Concentric of Death, ” and mentioned in it the names of 31 people including patients and staff who had eaten the hospital food. Out of the 31 people in the book, 9 people are still alive. In the
summer of 2006, I interviewed 7 of the survivors. The fact that about one third of the people who ate the hospital food are still alive after 60 years is in itself amazing, considering all of them
excepting one had been exposed closely to the atomic bomb.
Dr. Akizuki's claims regarding his beliefs about the traditional Japanese diet enriched with miso were published in his books (Akizuki 1981 & 1975). The following is a brief summary:
- Medicine should create a healthy body condition that is immune to sickness. Without creating this condition, we can never cure sickness. One of the ways to create this healthy condition is to make the body alkalized, since a weak body is often created with the mass consumption of sweets and animal products, resulting in an acidic condition in the human body.
- Diet determines our condition. The constitution of our body is hereditary, but our condition is constantly changing according to what we eat and the environment in which we live.
- We live and grow in our surrounding environment, so we should eat food that is grown locally and eat them in season since our body and the land we live in are inseparable.
- One cup of miso soup every morning will create a healthy condition that is immune to any sickness because miso is rich in enzymes, protein and unsaturated fat. We can intake 10 g of protein by drinking a cup of miso soup with tofu and seaweed. (Miso includes amino acid, peptide and so forth, which Tofu does not.)
- Miso is a traditional Japanese food, used in various dishes such as miso soup, all of which have been developed through the long history of the Japanese diet, and thus are effective and beneficial to the bodies of people who live in Japan.
In regards to current research on the effects of miso, Dr. Watanabe, one of the collaborators on this project, at Hiroshima University has been conducting research studies on the effect of miso (Watanabe 2005). He feeds rats various kinds of miso (as well as NaCl as a control variable) and examines the rate of their prevention of cancer and radiation damage. He has found that miso can control cancer growth. In addition, miso fermented for 180 days has stronger effects on cancer prevention and radiation control than shorter period fermented miso. In other words, longer fermentation can create an environment where beneficial bacteria can prosper, thus synthesizing miso that is more effective for the prevention of cancer and the control of radiation. Besides Watanabe's research studies, there have been various studies on the relationship between the intake of miso and disease control. The following is a summary chart regarding the scientific research on the effects of miso. The cart includes the year of the publication, the author's names, positive effect (X) or no effect (O), the name of disease that miso has positive effect and the title of the articles.
Seaweeds have been used to treat tumors in traditional Chinese and Japanese folk medicine. Populations that consume seaweed regularly, as in Japan, have dramatically lower rates of hormone- sensitive cancers, such as breast and prostate cancers [130].
Seaweed medical use dates to at least 5,000 years ago in ancient China, where the emperor ShenNung listed seaweed as a medicine in his classic pharmacopeia, the Pen Ts'ao [4]. Seaweeds have been used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat goiter, scrofula, swelling and pain of testes, and edema [5]. Additionally, some seaweed species have also been used in modern Chinese medicine to treat arteriosclerosis, skin diseases, high blood pressure, hepatosplenomegaly, neurosis, angina pectoris, acute esophagitis, and chronic bronchitis [6]. Marine algae belong to one of two groups: microalgae or macroalgae (seaweeds). Macroalgae are plant-like organisms. They are classified according to their pigmentation into green (chlorophytes), red (rhodophytes), and brown (phaeophytes) macroalgae.
Known for their richness in polysaccharides, minerals and certain vitamins, seaweeds also contain other bioactive substances, such as proteins, lipids, and polyphenols. These chemicals possess potential for use in treating cancer [7], oxidative stress [3,8], inflammation [9], allergy [10], diabetes [11], thrombosis [12], obesity [13], lipidemia [14], hypertensive [15,16], and other degenerative diseases. This review provides an overview of seaweed in vitro and in vivo investigations, and it summarizes our own research on seaweed components and their anticancer activity. Additionally, seaweed RCTs and quasi-experiments directed toward cancer therapy and prevention are discussed.
A significant reduction in the cancer development was observed in mice and rats after cancer cells had been implanted [41,49]. Similar effects were observed in several other cancer animal models, including leukemia and breast cancer [50]. The phenomenon was attributed to the stimulation of both innate and specific immunity. Isolated fucoidans from brown algae have also been shown to possess broad immunomodulating effects. In human studies, fucoidan has been shown to stimulate the enzyme granzyme A, which is believed to induce cytokine production in a variety of cells [51]. This observation may partially explain the mechanism of fucoidan immunomodulation [49,52]. In another human study involving fucoidan ingestion, low serum levels of fucoidans coincided with the presence of stromal cell-derived factor 1 and increased chemokine receptor CXCR4-expressing hematopoietic stem cells and chemokine IFN-γ [52].

Apple Fruit Pectin – Has a highly absorptive quality that draws numerous harmful substances out of your intestines, especially heavy metals like mercury and lead. It even draws carcinogenic radioactive materials like strontium 90 (it was used at Chernobyl to draw radioactive particles from the people there). Dietary pectin is also known as a radioprotective agent. Apple pectin effectively sweeps toxins and contaminants in the digestive tract. A report from Swiss Medical Weekly says that a study confirmed the reduction of 137Cs in kids exposed to the radiation (emitted by the Chernobyl incident). Apple pectin was administered orally in many cases and showed great performance in flushing out radiation.
Zeolites is a mineral and is really strong at capturing and adsorbing cesium, an element with several radioactive isotopes that often contaminate soils and water following nuclear disasters (Fukushima, Chernobyl). Cesium isotopes include 137 and 134, although 137 is by far the most worrisome and persistent in the environment (with a half-life of around 29 years, if memory serves me correctly).
Zeolite powder was mixed into cookies and given to children at the Chernobyl nuclear accident, and tons were air-dropped on the site itself to help clean up radiation in the area. The same Clinoptilolite zeolite has also been used with great success in removing radiation after the Three Mile Island radiation release caused by its reactor meltdown and during the Fukushima nuclear reactor meltdown to remove the toxic radioactive isotopes from people, animals, vegetation, and sea life. The Japanese Government dumped many tons of Clinoptilolite zeolite into the seawater to help absorb, remove, and lower the radiation in fishing areas.
Activated Charcoal, which has adsorption qualities, is a detoxifier that physicians in the Emergency Room use for ingested poisons. Through the process of adsorption, activated charcoal binds to the drugs or poisons so they don't get into your system and this helps your body to excrete them. According to MedScape.com, activated charcoal is a remedy for radiation exposure.

Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda) also counts as radioactive medicine. Like potassium iodate, it reduces some effects caused by radiation exposure. Sodium bicarbonate or baking soda prevents kidney failure and protects other sensitive tissues from damage. Sodium bicarbonate "qualifies as a survival medicine," according to Sodium Bicarbonate ~ Rich Man's Poor Man's Cancer Treatment Full Medical Review by Mark Sircus. "In case of nuclear attack you will want quite a bit of it on hand to protect your failing kidneys and other sensitive tissues." In short, baking soda is a nephroprotective for uranium.
Baking soda baths provide an excellent cleanse for removing radiation from body cells. Baking soda is highly alkaline and helps restore the body's pH, reducing the incidence of acidosis—a state that fosters weakness and disease. Drinking baking soda mixed with water may help reduce inflammation and heal mouth sores resulting from exposure to radiation.
