Treatment for Parvo - Activated Charcoal and Pedialyter

You can find AC at your local drug store; aquariums stores have some in a pinch, but its granulated and you would need to use a coffee grinder or food processor to pulverize it into fine powder.

Activated Charcoal works especially well when used with electrolytes to combat the dehydration that occurs with the diarrhea. You can make this recipe at home:

Homemade Pedialyte

  • 4 cups of water (boiled or bottled drinking water)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Morton lite salt (because it has potassium in it as well as sodium chloride) Can use regular table salt if you have to.
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon flavored jello or sodium free broth to add some flavor

Start with 1 cup of electrolyte solution in a small jar with a lid; add 2 heaping tablespoons of AC and then put the lid on and shke to blend. This goes into a syringe well and then can be placed into your dog's mouth; tip the head back and gently depress the plunger to allow him to drink it slowly.

If your dog has an appetite, you can mix the AC into canned dog food and make that a bit wetter and sloppier by adding the electrolyte solution to the wet food. The virus generally does not kill the dog - its the resulting dehydration that does the damage - so make sure you get those electrolytes down.

To start, dose the plain electrolyte solution every 20 minutes or so - however much he will take - to combat the dehydration. Every 2 hours or so dose the AC and electrolyte mixture - however much you can get down. You don't state the breed of your pup, so a Chihuahua might get 2 cc's while a pitbull might get four times that. Now, a 4 week old puppy would normally have 4-6 solid food meals or more since he should still be nursing on his mom. So offer your pup the wet AC and electrolyte loaded food at least 4 times a day for 5 days and up to 7 days. In the early stages it is critical to get the electrolytes and AC down, so if he won't eat canned food don't force him, just focus on getting the electrolytes and AC down for the first 24-48 hours.

Please report back on the progress of your sick pup!

For Parvo give a few drops of MMS for about three days. See the info online.

I know dogs have been cured with this . Look up MMS website, Jim Humble. They have a section on pets. I use MMS myself. Quite affordable.

Also two of my old cats went off food, lost a lot of weight and I knew from experience this was it. However I tried MMS on them and they, being twenty years old , are doing fine three months later. I never give antibiotics as they cause fungal disease and low immune system where the gut never recovers from the depletion of good bacteria. Om

My neighbors dog had her litter of puppies and the puppies contracted the parvo-virus, one puppy had died. He was desperate to find a natural cure due to the fact that the vet bill would have been staggering for 7 puppies. He searched the web to find a natural cure and kept finding that colloidal silver helps cure parvo. He called me, knowing that I make colloidal silver. I treated all the puppies and the next morning they were up and playing and eating again.. My neighbor and I were both quite shocked at the sudden turn around. I continued to treat the puppies for a week.

The silver was 70 to 100 PPM
Given twice a day for a week
Feed canned wet food, since parvo dehydrates

Hey Hennie!

Thanks for the info!

Like food grade hydrogen peroxide, sodium chlorite may not be everone's cup of tea, but in a life or death situation it's an option that merits consideration.

Perhaps rescue groups and shelters that see a high volume of sick critters might do well to have this remedy on hand.

Thanks again!

Hi Theresa

The vet did a fecal float test and the symptom of Joey was exactly the same as Max which made me to doctor Joey myself.

Thanks for your interest.

Hey Hennie!

I am so happy to hear of your dogs recovery!

I want to ask how your vet confirmed Parvo in Max, and how you confirmed Parvo in Joey. What tests were used, if any? It looks like you caught this right away, so important with this disease.

Thank you!

I want to follow up on my first posted letter regarding MMS and Activated Charcoal Helped Dog with Parvo .

I had read on the Net while Joey was sick with Parvo, that adult dog will not get Parvo. That is not true, because while Joey was getting better, our Chow - Shusi, eight years old - started to vomit on Saturday morning. Immediately I gave Shusi her first dose of MMS and two hours later activated charcoal. At 16H00 I gave shusi her second dose of MMS and then at 20H00 again. Shusi had eat well sofar and didn't vomit again. Meantime I decided that I will continue gave Joey MMS to ensure that she stay well.

I make MMS which was five drops of Sodium Chlorite and 25 drops of Citric Acid and gave Shusi three shots of 2. 5 ml syringe on her first dose. Second and third dose was four drops of s/c and 20 drops of c/a and two shot of 2. 5 ml to Shusi and one shot to Joey. This morning, Sunday, I gave the both the same dose as the last one. Both dogs look really good and Joey is running all over our place, which is a good sign for me.

The message here is that adult dogs get Parvo and do not forget them while you are busy to doctor your puppies. Many great thanks to your website and also the contributions of the readers. Keep up the good work.

For many years we had Chow Chow's and only seriously problems we had with them was hotspot. Then my wife decided that we should get smaller dogs and after some research we decided on the Chinese Crested. Both was about five months old when Max started getting sick and somewhere I had read there was parvo in the air. So, I get on the Net and looking for symtoms of parvo. Yes, Max had parvo and we decided to take him to the vet and two day later Max died. This was Thuesday morning. The family was broken and in meantime Joey show the same symtoms - PARVO. What was bad for me, was how Max had suffer and I decided Joey will not follow the same path as Max.

After been on the Net and specific Earth Clinic we deciced to keep Joey at home and doctored her ourself. Although I had MMS and Hydrogen Peroxide foodgrade, I decided to go for Colliodal Silver and we started to treathed Joey. She was not getting sicker but also not better. We also make sure she get all the time enough liquid. My wife and son had taken leave, to be at home to keep an eye on Joey.

Then Thursday afternoon after seeing the suffering in Joey eyes, I prayed to God and asked him why. She is not part of the man who must suffered for their sins. The word I then get from God was - MMS. I told my wife that we will use MMS and gave Joey the first dose. Friday morning I could see Joey had improved a lot. What I had learned was that the eyes tell you if your dog is getting better or not. Where Joey eyes was glassy and some brown in the white of her eyes Thursday night, it was clear and livingly Friday morning. We gave her her second dose. At 14H00 I came home and could she she looks much better, but something bother me is that she hadn't eat for five days. After talking with my wife , we decided to get some activated charcoal. We gave Joey one tablet at 16H00 and sometime at 17H00 for the first time she eat something, very little. Not long after that she vomit a little and something tell me that it is a good sign. We gave her, her third dose of MMS at 18H00 and at 20H00 we gave her an another activated charcoal tablet with some Pro- nutro.

Now, today Saturday morning she ate her food completly and walked and sniffing all around in our yard to see what she had missed out. She even chewed her bone, which she hadn't do it for the past five days and she loves her bones. I can only thanks God and my family.

The doses of MMS was made in a 50 ml glass - first was three drops sodium chlorite and 15 drops citric acid and then use a 2,5 ml syring twice. Second dose was four drops s/c and twenty drops c/a, 2.5 ml syring twice. Third dose, 5 drops s/c and 25 drops c/a, 2.5 ml syring once - fourth dose same as third. Make sure to follow the correct methods of making the MMS. Also ensure, when giving the activated charcoal, there is a time of two hours after last intake of what ever your dog had and again two hours your dog can get some food after taking the a/c.

Hope this will help you guys and most important trust God and stay possitive. Thursday afternoon was my and Joey turning point. I was at that point where I want take Joey to the vet and hope for the best, then I listened to the voice of our wonderfull God and use MMS, therefor thanks to Jim Humble who discover MMS, really a miracle supplement.

In two different occasions we have used dried arnica herb (usually in supermarkets near hispanic herbs) to treat for parvo, dogs are usually well in days. Boil a few pinches of arnica in couple quarts of water, strain let cool replace dogs water with this.

Also great for bursitis, bumps, bruises & swelling, use as hot compress.

This really works!! Over the past week or so, our 4 month old puppy's appetite had been finicky. Monday evening he started to vomit - clear and a bit foamy. He wouldnt eat or drink. My daughter researched the symptoms and suspected parvo. We got a bottle of Pepto the same night and gave him some. He didn't keep it down and vomitted through the night. First thing Tuesday morning we got a bottle of Oil of Oregano from a health food store for $10 and gave him about 5 drops every 4 hours. By the end of the day, he was drinking a little water with Gatorade and last night he ate some yogurt. This morning (Tuesday) he ate some dog treats and drank a little milk. We found out yesterday it really was parvo because our next door neighbor's dog died Sunday with the same thing. We are grateful for this website because it saved our puppy's life. Thank you all for your comments.

My husband has 2 very mild mannered Pit Bulls. It is two sisters. The youngest some how got Parvo or at least we think that is what is was. My husband took her to the Vet but the doctor was out. He had cleaned up blood 3 times. It was coming out of both ends. She wouldnt eat, drink or get up. I had been reading about natural anti-botics so I went to the health food store and brought a bottle of Oil of Oreganol put 2 drops on her tongue and in 3 hours she had gotten up. I feed her some apple sauce (blueberry) and she finally drank some water, we also feed her a can of fish steaks and a can of tuna. The next day we repeated the same process but we added pedialyte. It has been 5 days and she is back to her old self playing and eating up everything.

Saline Solution

Charcoal has saved my puppy from parvo, but I had another dog recently come down with parvo. He was much more sick than the first and would not even TAKE the charcoal chicken broth. He wouldn't eat wet food, wouldn't drink broth, and I couldn't force fluids down his throat. He seemed to be near death. What really kills dogs with parvo is dehydration. Knowing this, I went to a feed store and bought a large (10ml) syringe and needle. I then bought pure saline wound wash from Walgreens (MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO OTHER INGREDIENTS OTHER THAN SALINE). I then sucked the saline from a very clean bowl into the syringe and pumped it into his little neck 3- 4 times in the first 3 hours. In total, I put about 30ml of liquid into his scruff, not his muscle. More for a larger dog would be necessary. He was so near death that he didn't even fuss. The next day, he was so much better and ALIVE!! I knew he would have died if I hadn't pumped him full of saline. I continued with the saline inections, about 30-50 mls for the next two days until he started to complain. I also gave him charcoal as soon as he started eating and drinking. I also gave him some antibiotics in his food, the kind you get for fish at the feed store. I gave the antibiotics because I had them, but he was markedly better BEFORE I even started them due to the saline.

The whole thing cost about $30 including the gas to get around. It would have cost $300-$500 at the vet and the most effective thing the vet does is give your dog an IV of SALINE.

I had a 4 month old pitbull that got diagnosed with parvo the vet gave her an anti-viral shot and sent her home because we couldn't afford to admit her and told us be prepared for her not to make it just make her comfortable. Then some one told us to try mixing a egg and goats milk together and givng via needless syringe very couple hour and pedialite every 15 minutes that way she was getting some protien and calcium along with hydration even though she vomited it up most of the time after 3 days of round the clock care. On christmas eve she started drinking and eating on her own and eventually made a full recovery.

Arsenicum Album, Diatomaceous Earth

Ok so Just spoke with my friend to get another update on the dog, and guess what?! Ok well let me update ya first ; ) So after 6 pm yesterday she continued to dose the dog with the homeopathics every 15 minutes during the times the dog was up, she was resting and getting in some good naps so she left her be while sleeping but dosed every 15 minutes while awake and when her belly felt like it wasn't hot anymore and then spaced it to every half hour which is perfect, she was following the dogs body and adjusting the dose based on the recovery. She also dosed the dog two more times with DE before bed, the dog was up and drinking again and in the night threw up one last time but it was clear with some DE chunked up in it.

This morning she woke up her owner with lots of kisses, she's been wagging her tail, going potty and feeling great already eating and drinking here and there! AMAZING, 24 hours after the first dosing and she's practically cured, I'm shocked, I thought it would take longer with her case getting so severe so quickly! Since I've forgotten to mention this previously, these dogs are small chihuahuas, this virus is so horrible it needs large frequent doses of DE to extinguish it, the frequent dosing of the homeopathics is to stop vomiting, diarrhea, give comfort and alleviate any pain the dog experiences, it's amazing the quick recovery with these two marvelous God given medicines!

SWEET! Got some more good news on treatment for parvo, the puppy has been doing just great and amazing, her mother however, was not so lucky and came down with the parvo and quickly progressed to vomiting blood, this began last night. This morning she was given an anti-nausea pill (not sure what kind) and I was called about her condition, they came over quickly to get some phosphorous that we added two pills to the original arsenicum spritz bottle, she was given this every 15 minutes for an hour and a half and I recommended that it be given again for every hour for four more hours then reassess. At this time she was not throwing up from the anti-nausea pill and was then given a dose of pepto with a tablespoon of DE mixed in with a bit of water so it wasnt pasty. Shortly after she had a bout of diarrhea and began shivering, this was at 11:20 AM.

I called to check in on her just now and she has not vomited again, has not had any more diarrhea, was given a second dose of the DE in plain water and has only received homeopathics and DE alone since then. She is acting like herself again, has been able to sleep for the first time since yesterday and even went out to pee. Sounds like we have another parvo recovery!!! Our Heavenly Father has been so amazing, that despite living in this fallen world he did not leave us without healing

Arsenicum Album, Diatomaceous Earth

The remedies used here are Diatomaceous Earth (food Grade) and the homeopathic Arsenicum Album...

*1-24-12* Got some great info I wanted to share, last night around 7 or so my friend called to tell me about her friend's puppy that they just found out from the vet she had Parvo, she was in the first stages of it which is lethargy and loss of appetite... So they came over to pick up some Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth (D.E.) (which kills viruses and bacteria quickly) and arsenicum album. Which is the homeopathic remedy of choice for Parvo... She gave 4 doses of the arsenicum album (2 pills placed in a 2 ounce amber spritzer bottle, hit on palm of hand 8 times before each dose) last night 1 dose per hour for 4 hours and I think two doses of the DE at 1/2 teaspoon per dose. I told her for today to give the arsenicum every 3 hours and the DE 2-3 times (she actually gave a dose of the Arsenicum and the DE both every 2-3 hours throughout the second day). So this morning at 10:30 I called to check in on the puppy and she had got up and gone downstairs TWICE to go potty already! Then I got a call a hour and a half later and the puppy was eating some chicken! She hadn't started drinking yet but already those two things are great improvements! Thank God for His perfect medicine!!! Will keep y'all updated as I hear them...

*Update at 7pm 1-24-12
So far she's been eating more, going outside on her own to potty and playing with her momma, not drinking but peeing so she's still improving greatly, woohoo!!!

* 1-26-12* Ok new update as of today, she began drinking today and is eating and acting normally again!!! WOW, 3 days from start of treatment to being back to a healthy state, I've recommended she continue at least one dose of DE everyday for the next 3 weeks just to make sure she doesn't catch it again, plus it has other health benefits. This treatment had fast results and if everything was purchased new for this specific instance would have run about $15 total, that's a HUGE difference between the other two options which is to let the dog die or hospitalize it which is extremely expensive as it runs for 5-7 days time with intensive care. I think I'd rather do the natural method that's much cheaper, much more effective, and much faster for healing. : D

My Remedy was MMS for Parvo in dogs.

Yesterday, my 7wk female pup, suddenly came down with symptoms of Parvo, loss of appetite, refusing even water, for an entire day, and then morning diarehha, was slimmy and bloody, pressure forcing out, litterly pushing pup's back end off the ground. Then vomiting frothy slime that appeared clear. Then extreme listlessness, tired, sleeping more than usual and deep sleep, weakness increased, by late afternoon, could not balance, and diarehha became more bloody and dark pudding like, very slimy near end finish. Followed by high fever. Dehydration set in, skin non elastic, drastic weight loss. Could not afford Vet bill, and as Parvo has 90 ath rate as incurable. But intended to get pup vaccinated as appt is in 1 wk. Been taking MMS myself for over a year, with good results. Immediately, started pup on only MMS 1/4 drop ratio, i.e., 1 quarter of 1 drop ratio. The ratio is 3 drops per 25 pounds. This pup was under 5 pounds, therefore I used a quarter of a drop ratio with 4 oz. of water, and alternating with Electrolytes, and then boiled concentrated Barley water. Fed alternating MMS low doses with small bent dropper and Electrolytes first, at side of mouth for pup to lick and swallow, every 10, 15minutes. Then cooled concentrated barley water(boiled down to thick consistency)alternating also with dropper.

Saw immediate change within an hr. Dog was playful, after barley water dog wanted actually to eat its kibble. Next day diarrhea not as liquid, no blood, and dog is drinking and eating on own, playful, actually wanted to run. Fever gone and nose feels cool and wet, gums are good pink return when pressed. I will still watch symptoms with caution and change to bland diet for next 2wks till healed, as there may be damage in the intestinal lining due to blood. I will also continue MMS low dosage in daily drinking water. Will update new data. Thks, Virginia
