What is PMS?

Premenstrual syndrome is a collection of symptoms that occur in a predictable pattern in relation to a woman's menstrual cycle during the luteal phase, usually 10 days prior to menstruation. The exact cause is unknown, but the contributing factors are hormone fluctuations, stress, insufficient serotonin, depression, and poor eating habits such as high salt diets and low levels of vitamins and minerals. Some 40 million women are reported to suffer from PMS, with more than 5 million women requiring some form of medical treatment for mood changes. Studies have shown that PMS stems from neurochemical changes within the brain. If you want to ease your PMS, you must address your brain chemistry!

Symptoms of PMS can be both physical and behavioral: anxiety, mood swings, irritability, food cravings, insomnia, poor focus, muscle pain, headaches, bloating, breast tenderness, acne, constipation or diarrhea. Usually only a few symptoms are present at a time, few women experience them all concurrently, but PMS symptoms can be severe enough to interfere with daily routines.

My mother has been using dandelion root capsules to control swelling in her legs, so last week I decided to test it for the bloating/severe water retention I get a few days before my period. I have been taking 2 or 3 capsules of dandelion root with my breakfast. Incredibly, not only did it cure the bloating within a day, but it also completely eliminated my horribly painful breasts (fibrocystic). The dandelion root also eliminated the sensation of sluggish/swollen lymph nodes in my armpits. All within the first 24 hours of taking it. I can't believe it!

Two "side effects" I've noticed on Dandelion root:

I feel myself getting dehydrated so I have doubled my water intake.
It makes me urinate frequently, so I will continue to take it in the morning so as not to disrupt my sleep. Dandelion is a powerful diuretic!!

I hope others will try this simple remedy. Dandelion root is very inexpensive.
