Sea Kelp Iodine

Hi All!

I was diagnosed by with a keloid cyst earlier this year and advised by the doctor that the only solution was surgery and/or steroid injections neither of which I was interested in. I had tried all kinds of home remedies including castor oil, hot and cold compresses, apple cider vinegar, various homeopathic creams, and many other recommendations, none of which were of any benefit in my situation. In short, I did my own research and came across Sea Kelp Iodine supplement after realizing that I (like many others) am likely iodine deficient. Within about 3 days of taking the supplement, the cyst was almost completely flat!

Fast-forward approximately two months after, and unfortunately, the bump has become inflamed again. I believe this is due to a significant increase in sugar intake which I normally do not consume which resulted in a loss of effectiveness of the iodine. I have continued to take the iodine supplement daily and am hopeful it will flatten once again.

Despite my cyst having returned, I am confident this supplement is not only great for cysts, but is also imperative for ones overall health. I hope this post helps someone else and perhaps someone can share their experience with curing a cyst such as mine that returned under similar circumstances.

CASTOR OIL + TEA TREE OIL + HEAT PACK 2X DAILY

I used 100% organic, hexane free castor oil (in a brown glass bottle) along with 100% pure tea tree oil and covered the keloid with a heat pack (white rice in a tube sock - heated in the microwave) twice daily. It took nearly a month of this consistent regimen for the small keloid on my thigh to disappear. It is possible, friends! :)

From my notes:

Put Apple Cider Vinegar solution on keloid for about 5 days where I soaked a cotton with ACV and keep it on my Keloid from the time.

A great home remedy for treating keloids is apple cider vinegar because it helps minimize the size and redness of the scar.

  1. Apply diluted apple cider vinegar to water ratio 1~10 directly on a gauze the affected area so the vinegar is well absorbed into the skin.

  2. Bandage it in place in order to expedite healing.

  3. I've seen this treatment resolve keloids in under one week.

If the apple cider vinegar causes any skin irritation, you can dilute it with water even more.

If overnight what do I do with the dabbed cotton wool with band aid in the morning? When it starts eating the keloid what do I do leave it open or dab another cotton wool and put on the open wound pls help I have one I operated a year ago and it came back 3 times the previous size behind my ears that was pierced

My son is 13. 7 months now since dog bite to face and scar is raised. We've been doing scar massage and a pressure treatment but only half good. Some red areas and he's now become more self conscious especially since April 11th when masks were optional at school. I literally just bought the clear iodine at a health food vitamin shop.

For anyone who might know the answer since this post is from 2012: How much do you apply and how often and any other details you may want to share. Thank you.

The soy probably worked because it has nattokinase in it which might break down scar tissue. They also sell it in capsule form. It's mostly used as a natural blood thinner and to dissolve blood clots.

Sea Salt

Try sea salt for keloid scars. I had a huge scar tissue on my finger. Two days and it was gone. No harm is trying it. Grind the sea salt to a fine paste, add little water and put it on the scar or keloid over night. You can use gauze to hold it in place. Few nights and you will see the difference. Hope it works but as I said, no harm in trying.

I have struggled with keloids for years. They started when I was 14 and I am 28 now. I have them on my shoulders and small ones on my chest. I recently started to use a topical garlic ointment for the past week and noticed they are getting flatter. They are also less itchy. I am going to continue using this process and hopefully they will continue to go down. It's such a struggle dealing with these, it burdens my heart.

In reply to Mkm (India),

Please look into vitamin D as it relates to keloids. Studies are scant at best, but they do seem to suggest that vitamin D may be beneficial. Vitamin D has a very good safety profile and may have other health benefits. Most people are low on serum 25 OH d, so this would be worth discussing with your doctor. In general keloids are known to have relatively low levels of the vitamin D receptor.

Hi,

I have severe keloids on my chest and right and left shoulders. I had one single keloid on my chest around 13 years back and then they have grown over time. Few of them have split, few have horizontal lines over them and they are just spreading. I have tried cortisone injections, aloe vera, baking soda and none of them have worked.

I am having keloids on my right and left shoulders and upper chest and they are slowly spreading over my back and on the upper arms. They start as acne and keep on growing. I had only one keloid on my upper chest around 13 years back and they kept spreading. Few of them have split into two and few have horizontal lines over them. I had taken few cortisone injectons, and few of them reduces, but I have got a lot of new ones and they are just spreading. I have tried aloe vera, baking soda and none of them have worked.

Kindly help me identify the cause for these spreading keloids and remedies. I keep applying crushed garlic which dries them and peels off the upper layer, but the process is very slow. Kindly help on how to prevent them from spreading and clear the existing ones.

I have read in a previous thread that it could be because of fungus and some energy path.

Vitamin D

Keloids are a fairly common problem that are often discussed on this forum and have generated quite a few potential treatments.

In the following study the potential usefullness of vitamin D3 and quercetin are discussed in relationship to keloids. Quercetin is a commonly available supplement and vitamin d even more so. Both have very good safety profiles at a minimum and are relatively inexpensive to buy. Both supplements also are known to have many other health benefits, while being vitamin d deficient is known to have bad effects on human health.

It is fairly well established now that the majority of people have insufficient levels of 25 OH d which is the serum test for vitamin d. The reference range for vitamin d or 25 OH d is 30~100 ng/ml. Winter time only tends to worsen the deficiency because of the lack of effective UVB exposure combined with the increased atmosphere distance that the sun's rays have to pass through during our winter's in the USA. All good reasons to check with your doctor to see if including or increasing vitamin d is something healthful for you to try. Remember that age also plays a factor in our bodies ability to convert uvb rays from the sun into vitamin d in our skin. As we age, this ability diminishes and is just one more reason to consider supplementing. If you are insufficient (below 30 ng/ml) or deficient (below 20 ng/ml) and have keloids, maybe your body is trying to tell you something!

If you have keloids that have not responded to other treatments or have not responded well or just keep coming back, then it might be worth discussing this study with your doctor to see if vitamin d might be worth trying with or without quercetin. At a minimum your doctor may recommend getting closer to the top of the reference range than the bottom, at least while actively trying to see if vitamin D can improve your keloids.

Here is an abstract from 2011 that also suggests that vitamin d may be useful when it comes to keloids:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21070203

Here is a full study from 2015 that also points to vitamin D as potentially being useful for keloids.

Borax for keloid - I have suffered with a keloid on my ear lobe for 20 years. I have had injections and three surgeries it always comes back. Had radiation.iI came back one year later.I tried Apple Cider Vinegar, would not shake it. Finally I tried a borax paste... borax and water mixed and applied it at night. I left it on.about a few days. It started hurting and shrinking. It shrunk from the inside lobe and is soft, not hard. Almost gone after six months.

My daughter had a peanut sized keloid on her ear lobe and it was removed by a surgery, but unfortunately it started growing back after an year. I applied apple cider vinegar organic daily night and could see drastic change. Here is what I did:

Drenched a cotton ball in the vinegar, wrapped the keloid with a plaster and left it overnight. The keloid reduced to half of its original size within a month. The skin healed itself and the color didn't change. Apple cider vinegar did work great!!

I ordered 5% loguls 5% iodine and after a week of use noticed my keloid start to shrink slightly. Then I ordered a dermaroller and used that with the iodine and massive quick difference. The keloid had lost 50% of its swelled height and getting closer and closer to flat after less than a week and a half. I can only speak for myself but this has been great.

Hi dear, ACV is now available in many big pharmacies. I even just got a bottle last night in Abuja for my mums lymphoma. if you have someone in Abuja too the person can check H-Medics in Wuse 2. I even saw some bottles in Spar, 1st floor(ceddi Plaza), central area. I have a keloid too. After an attempt to open up a new hole for my earing. It started growing after almost a year and is pea sized in front and at the back. It almost looked like I was wearing a second earing. lol. My dermatologist has given me 3 shots of cortisone injections( one month apart) and the whole keloid became dried and black after the last injection. Now it seems it wants to fall of. I came across this sight trying to read up on how I could make it fall off fast. I will update the results with time. I am so happy that people are sharing their experiences here. I can at least use ACV for sometime after it falls off so it doesn't grow again.

I have a keloid scar on my chest and I have been using ACV. I have noticed it getting smaller, but it is also getting raw and then scabbing over. I have read that this is normal because of the acidity of the ACV eating away the scar tissue. Did this happen to you as well? And how well did it work in the long run? Now in my 50's they are painful, itchy, and spreading across my chest. I need relief. I know nothing will make them go away and the Apple Cider treatment does not seem safe. I wanted to ask the contributer of the post about castor oil removing a large keloid-which is also the Editor's choice- of when did he start using the castor oil, how long after the keloid has developed., and whether the scar is entirely gone, I.e. Is it still in any way visible, or gas the skin regained its normal colour and texture. Thank you very much. My daughter has a keloid from a 3 yr old surgery on her stomach and I am considering to try the use of castor oil... When I heat it -do I put it in hot water or just warm water-wouldn't the heat damage the qualities of the castor oil? Once again, thank you very much!!!

I have had keloids since I was 5 (following a vaccination on my arm). At puberty, some of the pimples on my back/shoulder areas developed into small keloids. Then they grew together into large keloids. I had injections of kenalog for about 30 years with very poor results. I am now 53 and started using iodine orally about a year ago. I also started to paint lugol's iodine on my keloids after showering in the morning. The keloids are amazingly decreased and the redness is coming out of them. I have taken breaks (summertime especially because the iodine looks almost worse than the keloids). I think that the keloid scar tissue is trying to surround an infected area and keep the infection contained and unable to spread to the rest of the body. The iodine is an antibacterial that must be healing the infection so the keloid is no longer necessary. It has been a long process, but I am convinced that they will disappear completely over time as some already have.
