Many patients report that they've had some kind of infectious episode immediately before the onset of GCA. There are several reports that Epstein Barr or Herpes can be a co-factor in Temporal Arteritis (Giant Cell Arteritis). On another site, one poster mentions a "2013 case study indicating a possible linkage between GCA/PMR and Epstein Barr virus."

Therefore, the poster suggests that it is possible that taking nutrients such as Quercetin, Bromelain, Wild Oregano, Olive Leaf Extract, Lysine, and/or Vitamin C, etc. - might useful in stemming inflammation as they are anti-inflammatory, immune modulators. The poster stated that s/he takes takes "up to six caps of Bromelain or Quercetin day for cardio-vascular health and allergies. Search PubMed for Quercetin and be amazed at everything they're studying it for."

However, if temporal headaches seem severe, continuous, or involve any eye sight disturbances including blurring, one should immediately check with one's doctor.

Giant Cell Arteritis Remedies

My husband, is 73, has polymyalgia rhumatica and his rheumatologist warned us about giant cell arteritis, which is directly related to pmr. I had hoped to find information on Earth Clinic but couldn't. It is a very dangerous condition, can cause blindness and can enlarge the aorta as well. Maybe someone who has dealt with the condition can chime in? Thanks so much!
