What Causes Dry Mouth?
Dry mouth, also known as xerostomia, is a common condition of subjective feeling of dryness in the mouth that sometimes is associated with underperformance of the salivary glands. Constant dry mouth can be symptomatic of something else or a side-effect of medication, but sometimes there is no discernible cause. When clinically diagnosed as a reduction of saliva, it is known as hyposalivation.

Since saliva flow is reduced while sleeping, it is common to wake up with dry mouth that will pass after eating or drinking. It is a common symptom associated with diabetes, but dry mouth symptoms may also be simply indicative of dehydration. Dry mouth can also be caused by stress, anxiety, or depression.

Hi, I was having a lot of trouble with dry mouth, dry nose, dry tongue, burning mouth. I had tried everything: hormones, B vitamins, iron, etc. It caused me to have a lot of anxiety and sleepless nights. The only thing that has helped me is potassium. I started taking a potassium supplement of around 600 - 1000 mg. a day. Also, high potassium foods: fruit juices, cantalope, V-8 juice, tomato juice. Once my potassium levels came up, the dry mouth started going away, also acid reflux, and stomach, digestion problems. Hope this helps someone.

Lately I have been waking up at night with a terribly dry mouth. My tongue and the roof of my mouth are even sore from sticking together. Last night I got up and rubbed some coconut oil on the roof of my mouth and that helped. Does anyone know what causes this? Actually I feel like my whole body is parched. My skin and hair are also very dry. I have been running the humidifier but that doesn't seem to help.

Dry Mouth Cured With Vit E Carotene

I couldn't sleep and I would cough because my mouth was so dry. I had to drink water all night. Vit. E and Vitamin A (carotene) has alleviated the symptoms almost completely. My eyes aren't as dry either. Vit E (400) in the dry form is more effective and it enhances the effectiveness of the Vit. A.(25,000) I tried Vit A (carotene) alone and it didn't work. It needs the help of vitamin E. I take it every day.
