As someone who works in the health care field and who is a type 1 diabetic since '76 I have to agree with the comments about mainstream medical advice. Personally, mainstream healthcare has only been helpful for me about half of the time. I have been misdiagnosed so many times that when I get the sense that they are making it up as they go, I usually fire those doctors. I see the medical field from the inside and it is mostly about making money, not curing you. If medicine cured you of all your problems then who would financially support all those doctors, nurses, administrators, expensive clinics and hospitals?
When a diabetic walks in the doctors office, it is my experience that that's what they focus on. They will advise the diabetic to maintain tight glycemic control as if that will fix everything. They ignore or forget that people with perfect HA1C also have health problems. Long ago I started researching things myself and using logic and information, I have cured myself of several disturbing health problems.
For those who may be interested, I suffered a strange oversensitivity of my nervous system. When I touched even the slightest of textures, it would set my teeth on edge and I lived with that for years. Neurologists diagnosed me with neuropathy and prescribed neurontin which didn't help but made me more tired. (diabetic and new mother) This diagnosis didn't make sense as neuropathy symptoms include numbness and phantom pains. When I was in nursing school, the hospital put a woman on a glucose and insulin IV drip to reduce her potassium which was dangerously high. I was also learning about nerve function in anatomy class: it requires potassium. Since I am on insulin and was having nerve problems I figured it could be the answer to supplement minerals especially potassium. Cured.
In this day and age, you have to take responsibility for your own health.
Another example is on topic: I finally decided to ask the doctor about my athletes feet and very thick toenails. She said diabetics are not able to be cured of the fungus. But she set me up with a podiatrist. $$$$$
The podiatrist likewise held up no hope for a cure. However, I could come back every few months and he could use the electric sander on my thick nails. $$$$$
The first time he sanded my nails he burned the skin of my diabetic feet! That's not a good idea as we are prone to problems related to healing foot injuries. I decided he didn't have the answer.
I went to a great site called bulk herb store. Got the advice to soak my feet in apple cider vinegar twice a day changing the cider once a week. There were other recommended ingredients but I could get the cider that same day and started the treatment. Within one week the thick toenails on my 5th toes peeled right off leaving a normal nail underneath. the other 2 problem toenails are looking better but require further soaks. I came to this site today because of fungal problems elsewhere and it has confirmed my suspicion that some apple cider vinegar or white vinegar will be my next step. I plan to get off the computer, take a shower, spray the vinegar on the problem spots and let dry and am optimistic that I will once again have solved my complaint.
When and if I return to the podiatrist, I will show him my healed feet and toes and expect he will ask what I did. I will tell him he can make an appointment to drive out to my house at my convenience, (I have an appointment available a week from next friday), pay 160$ (I don't accept his insurance and then I can tell him about my 4 dollar cure. I doubt this info will be passed on to his other patients as there is no money in it for him.
I was on a military base in Italy going to junior high school. I went to the camp doctor to get my immunization before starting school. After those shots everything changed. Stay feeling dehydrated, tired, peeing a lot. Found out I was a juvenile dependant diabetic. I Know It Was The immunization. Nobody in my family is a diabetic.
My blood sugar was going haywire. The ambulance was called once or twice a week for low blood sugar. I started taking chromium and I haven't had anymore problems. It stabilized my sugars and lowered my blood pressure.
My daughter was diagnosed when she was 6 with type 1 diabetes, she is now 16. She has NEVER been vaccinated, so people can rule that out. That's not it. I believe in my daughters case and maybe all cases, that it is all environmental. I have studied into this for 10 years straight. I fed my daughter grains when she was just 4 months old, and I'm tearing up as I write this, I was a new mom and my health book said I could start solids at 4 months. I wanted to get started right away to be able to spoon feed my new baby and watch lovingly as she takes this new step. I fed her rice, quinoa, barley, oats etc. I even gave her rice milk in a bottle many times at this age. With this her intestines inflamed and tore leaving open tears where this grain that she didn't have the ability too digest so young went undigested into her blood stream and in turn caused her immune system to freak out, and autoimmunity began. I also to add to mess....hardly ever going outside in the sun. So she got very little Vitamin D3. I noticed a rash around her mouth for months and didn't connect the dots, that it meant her intestines were in trouble. She then would get a very itchy behind, that drove her crazy just before diagnoses. I hate thinking about this, and every time I read not to fed your baby grains until their over a year old or even better until their 2...or it can cuae your child to develop type 1 diabetes...just makes me so sad :( I did this to her, and I can't go back. If I could only go back : ( I have 5 other children who are very healthy and I never fed any of them this young. In fact my last few babies I have been scared to death to let grains anywhere near them until their 2. I just feel so bad, and so far even after 10 years of searching I can't find a way to help her. I have though given her 2 tsp Black Cumin Seed Oil a day, and her blood sugar has never been better and her A1c has went from 9.0 to 6.2...which is amazing. I have been told that people have been cured of type 1, but that it can't be published for fear of DEATH threats. Isn't that sick? The cure is out there, but we're not allowed to know what it is. Diabetes is a multi-million dollar business now. No cures allowed. Maybe some day I'll find it on my own. God knows how hard I'm trying.
Diabetes Type 1:
Everyone should try to find a copy of the October 2011 issue of the magazine, (maybe at the library) "Life Extension." The article on page 81 is "Wheat: The Unhealthy Whole Grain." Obesity was rare 40 or 50 years ago and now we're getting fatter and fatter. It's because of the farmers pouring Roundup on their wheat crops to kill the wheat to make it seed more to produce more crops. It's all about money. So the wheat we are eating is very deadly. I've stopped eating it. That article devastated me. It actually destroys your organs. I've seen pictures on the internet of rats who have huge tumors from eating wheat whose organs have shrunk and they are dying. The only way you can really eat breads is to bake them from almond flour or something that isn't a grain. Even rice and corn is not healthy. I actually was looking through my magazines when I found the old copy and after finding that article, no more grains for me, ever. No sugar, no high fructose corn syrup. It isn't the gluten, it's the Roundup that are making people sick. It causes diabetes, (insulin resistance) which leads to heart disease, kidney disease, neurological disorders, arthritis and paralyzing delusions of schizophrenia. I don't know about you, but I sure don't want schizophrenia!
When I was a young girl, everything was healthy and I was skinny. I ate all I wanted. Now I have prediabetes. Some countries have outlawed Roundup. PBS had a special about how our bees are dying and it was concluded it was the roundup in the crops. Where will we all be without bees???It's a very sad time in history. Even corn and many other foods are genetically engineered. They actually put Roundup in the seeds so that insects can't destroy the crops, but it is destroying the bees and the human race slowly and gradually. Here is a good report too:
Good luck and love to everyone.
Re Type 1 diabetes, and being treated as a Type 2 and nearly 'croaking' as a result. Same here for me also. I'm guessing you were prescribed something like ONGLYZA (saxagliptin) to control Blood Glucose Levels.
My history in brief: 'Undiagnosed' diabetic (Type 1, originally misdiagnosed as Type 2) for about 10 years - Stage 3-4 Chronic Kidney Disease (pending dialysis) - Liver failure - 80% loss of eyesight - numbness in hands and feet - plus undiagnosed Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), which I battled every day for about 4 years.
Solution: I've been treating myself WITHOUT prescription meds of any kind since March 2012, and I went intothis with my eyes wide open. (I'm also being monitored by Doctor, Endocronologist, & Diabetes Nurse... None of them have seen this done before).
1st step: get blood glucose levels (BGL) under control. I use Gymnema Sylvestre - and it's quite safe to take at more than recommended dose which is usually about 6 per day... I take around 15-20 depending on how my levels are throughout the day. I also back this up with bitter melon (about 4-6 per day) just to make sure. I've found when I control BGL my liver starts to pump out more glycogen - meaning ketone levels rise. Too many ketone and DKA sets in - I also become quite 'acid'.
2nd step: control ketones (to offset DKA), and reduce acidity - because excess acid damages kidneys and liver, and just exacerbates the whole situation. Get some 'pee-on' Ph paper strips. They're about a dollar or two on Ebay. You need these to check on what amount of Bicarb Soda (Baking Powder) you need each day to remain Ph neutral. For me, I generally take 3 glasses a day of filtered water to which I've added 1/2 teaspoon bicarb soda & 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid to each one. I take these from midday through to bedtime. Don't take before midday unless you eat first. The Ph paper will let you know if you're too acid still - so you adjust how many glasses accordingly (you should be Ph neutral when you rise in the morning and stay that way until you begin drinking your bicarb water around midday)
Bonus: The Bicarb/Citric Acid soothes both the kidneys and liver. I was able to reverse Chronic Kidney Disease within 4-6 weeks and kidneys are now (and have been) functioning well for over 18 months. Liver started to show sign of improvement about 8 weeks in. Chronological blood tests show the history. A warning sign that I haven't had enough bicarb/citric acid is I get pain in my liver when I'm starting to produce too much glycogen. Needless to say Liver seems to take a little longer. DKA (ketone) levels can rise quite quickly - Bicarb/Citric Acid water will see them drop at around 20 minutes after being taken (I use ketone blood tests to confirm in heading in the right direction.
Also, Diabetics are also prone to 'electrolyte imbalances'... So I address these as well. I found that some of the 'sports'-type drinks help a little... BUT they're loaded with sugar (which is basically what helps people 'recover' quickly from sports). If I drink these... I have to mop-up the sugar by taking extra Gymnema. Adding the 'extra' sugar when trying to control it... Just seemed counter-productive to me. Of course there's artifically sweetened sports drinks, BUT they're made with Aspartame... which is the equaivalent of drinking the toxic waste from the tailings ponds of a nuclear reactor! For me, neither the Aspartame or the Tailings Ponds were an option.
Problem: There is nothing on the market for diabetics to assist with electrolyes... unless you want to add a lot of sugar, OR drink the equivalent of nuclear waste.
Solution: Kidnap a Compounding Pharmacist, and create an electrolyte replacement suitable for diabetics. Seriously, I didn't kidnap him... But I convinced him to help work out a formula with me. It doesn't have the same 'buzz' as a sugared-up drinks... But it DOES get the electrolye balance under control. Once again.. I just add to water and 'down the hatch'.
I also take a variety of things to assist with the whole process - so the above is just the 'basics' that will actually work.
My goal in all of this is to take a non-functioning pancreas... And turn it into a functioning one I. E. To grow some wretched beta cells. My next lot of tests (so I can check my progress) includes a test of C-peptide levels. Hopefully this will reveal how much insulin my body is now making.
Essentially, I'm a work 'in progress'. But I have to admit I'm feeling quite hopeful. To keep track of what I'm doing, I'm working on a journal-type website. It only has an image saying it's on it's way, but not for too much longer: www.diabetes-without-drugs.com. I just wanted to make sure I'd covered as many bases as possible, because there's nothing worse than false hope (been there, done that).
Hope this helps.
Dear SB, concerning help for your son's type 1 diabetes, we hope our family's experience over the past 25 years may be beneficial. You see, my wife was diagnosed with and prescribed medication for diabetes over 25 years ago. Within six months of her diagnosis, she had changed her lifestyle to the point that she was off all the diabetic medications. Since that time until today, she has never had to take medication for diabetes again. She reversed her diabetes by taking action each day to improve her health through lifestyle changes that she never stopped practicing - these actions became her daily routines and repaired her auto immune disease and her pancreatic beta cells function.
The first action she took was to add 30 minutes a day each morning of moderate exercise. Over the years, she slowly built up her exercise time to around three hours a day (one hour when she wakes up, one hour during the daytime and one hour before going to bed). While she exercises, she watches videos on her tablet, (she only watches videos when she exercises since we have no TV in the house), it is her instant reward to herself for exercising. Second, she began to drink more water and better quality water (Iceland high pH water), now my wife drinks at least one liter of water in the first hour and half after she wakes up. Third, she stopped drinking alcohol and cow's milk. Fourth, she stopped eating all processed food, hydrogenated oils, food additives, GMO corn, wheat, rice, soy, white bread, white rice, sugar, soda and candy (except little secrets chocolate/peanut pieces and dark chocolate). Fifth, she stopped taking all synthetic substances including vaccines, medications and foods to avoid further auto-immune damage. Sixth, she began eating whole, non-processed, made from scratch, low-glycemic meals of wild salmon, free-range, hormone-free, grass-fed beef, lamb, goat, chicken, duck, turkey, eggs, bone broth soups, organic raw vegetables, fresh fruits and herbs. Seventh, she started drinking green tea, herbal tea and berry smoothies. Lastly, my wife began taking supplements (vitamins, natural non-synthetic extracts and compounds)
identified in research studies and by our personal experience to lower blood sugar, lower inflammation and to regenerate, restore and regrow pancreatic beta cells to normal function. This in turn meant that her insulin levels and metabolism also returned back to normal.
The natural cures we found ourselves through experience or read about in research papers with the greatest benefit and best outcomes include (in no particular order): 1-Ginseng, 200 mg a day to help stablize insulin and glucagon; 2-Nopal (the pod of the prickly pear cactus) on par with effectiveness of diabetic medication at a 250 mg daily dose (used by some instead of medication); 3-Gymnema, 400 mg a day, a traditional Indian remedy used to lower blood sugar that can work synergetically with diabetes medication (if you use it make sure to check your blood sugar to avoid hypoglycemia); 4-Barberine from goldenseal and barberry or taken as a supplement targets AMPK, a chemical that regulates your metabolism. (AMPK causes your body to absorb more glucose), improves your sensitivity to insulin, and helps your liver not to produce too much blood sugar; 5-Linun Uisitassimum or LU6 from flaxseed and chia seed 600 mg of extract a day manages blood sugar levels and and also provides a good source of Omega 3 and Omega 6 oils; 6-L-Arginine from defatted flour made from sesame seeds, cottonseed, sunflower seed, safflower, and peanut, watercrest, mustard greens, spirulina, and pumpkin leaves restores insulin sensitivity, modulates glocose and activates cell activity through the nitric-oxide pathway; 7-Genistein from red clover stimulates insulin secretion in Pancreatic B-cells through cAMP-dependent protein kinase pathways, take 1, 500 mg a day; 8-Nigella Sativa or black cumin seed taken with wild raw honey for synergetic effect 2 grams black seed a day (we've had great success with this) for reduction in A1c on par with the best diabetes medications, reduces fasting blood sugar by 56 mg/dl and reduces insulin resistance, improves beta cell function and is non toxic, you can eat the seeds on salad or add to teas, take pills of black seed oil or add the oil to tea (a tablespoon each black seed oil or seeds and Honey three times per day); 9-Vitamin B6, B7 (Biotin) and B12 from brewer's yeast, goat milk, goat cheese and goat yogurt, wild salmon, wild yellowfin or albacore tuna, eggs, chicken liver, beef, spinach, sweet potato, green peas, chickpeas, and avocado; 10-Chromium from broccoli, green beens, brewer's yeast and grass fed beef, or 200 micro grams tablet taken twice a day, Chromium is a trace element that can help your body to regulate blood sugar more effectively by working with insulin to fill the cells with glucose, helping your body know when it needs to stop producing blood sugar; 11-Barley and raw vegetable to slow down metabolism of carbohydrates and add fiber; 12-Vitamin C from amla (green gooseberry), camu camu, barberry, citrus fruits, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, 1, 000 mg Vitamin C tablet daily and 50 gram Vitamin C IV twice a month; 13-Vitamin D from early morning sunbathing, 7, 000 to 14, 000 IU's Vitamin D3 daily and 50, 000 IU's D3 shot 2-3 times a year in winter, get more Vitamin D to reduce your risk of bacterial and viral infections, which tend to be more common among diabetics; 14-Vitamin E from sunflower seeds, almonds, hazelnuts, pine nuts and kiwi or 1 gram liquid gel tab per day to slow down the degenerative diseases brought on by diabetes (hardening of arteries, plaques due to PKC enzyme, formation of blood clots inside arteries, kidney failure, cararacts, and neuropathy); 15-Zinc from black cumin seed, beef, chicken, yogurt, chickpeas, pumpkin seeds, oatmeal and 50 grams a day tablet taken for three weeks with one week off; 16-Aloe Vera taken daily through skin and 1 tablespoon eaten each day for two weeks with one week off, (we grow our own aloe vera plants and give away extra to friends); 17-Cinnamon 1, 500 mg per day in food and tea lowers blood sugar (American Society of Nutrition 2007), enhances the effects of gastrointesinal hormones responsible for satiation (American Society of Nutrition 2009) and reduces oxidative stress; 18-Fenugreek 100 grams per day soaked overnight and roasted eaten as snack or in soups and salads lowers blood sugar and slows down the absorbtion of charbohydrate, can also chew fenugreek leaves or use seed powder that has been defatted; 19-Stevia a natural sweetener with anti-diabetic properties comparable to diabetic medication called Glibendhamide; 20-Ginger found to significantly improve hemoglobin A1c and and reduce nerve damage; 21-Bitter Mellon Gourd found to contain three anti-diabetic substances charanti, vicine and an insulin-like compound called polypeptide-p plus a lectin that reduces blood glucose concentrations, use 1, 000 mg a day; 22-Young Coconut water and pulp is a low glycemic, low glycemic load carbohydrate with many health benefits; 23-Clove lowers blood sugar, promotes a healthy pancreas, may imitate the function of insulin, act as an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant (we like young clove bud oil best); 24-Jamun extract, leaves and juice slows down conversion of statch to sugar, use 10 grams a day; 25-Magnesium from almond, black beens, chard, and spinach to keep magnesium level normal as it is generally low in people with diabetes and its deficency may contribute to the severity of diabetes; 26-Corn silk milk the threads on corn stalks has been shown to have anti-diabetic properties by slowing food absorbtion and ani-glycation properties that protect insulin secreting cells; 27-Curcumin from turmeric found to have antioxidant, anti-neolastic, hepato-protective immunomodulatory, hypoglycemic and anti-rheumatic effects able to improve B-cell function and decrease insulin resistance; 28-Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) as an alternate treatment for pain from nerve damage sources are animal heart, liver and kidney, brussel sprouts, brocolli and rice bran or supplement of 300 mg three times a day for up to 12 weeks at a time, Alpha-lipoic acid is a potent antioxidant that can help your bodyâs cells absorb glucose more efficiently, as well as stop sugar molecules from binding with protein molecules (hindering proper function). ALA will also boost eye health; 29-CoQ10 (Coenzyme Q10) is a potent antioxidant that is recommended to boost your heart health, and taking it can help to reduce, cardiac complications that may arise from diabetes; 30-Sage blocks the release of glucose stored in the liver similar in function to diabetes medication Metformin; 31-Garlic helps to reduce blood sugar and risk for atherosclerosis; 32-Avocado helps control blood sugar and insulin levels; 33-Bone Broth vegetable soups provides fiber, supports detox, boosts immune system, provides vital minerals, and aids digestion; 34-Nuts walnuts, almonds, peanuts are high calorie, good fat and good for regulating blood sugar levels; 35- non-pasturized, cold-pressed, coconut and olive oils aid digestion, heart healthy oils with positive effect on blood sugar levels; 36-Coconut and apple cider vinegars found to reduce blood sugar levels, reduce inflammation and to treat hypoglycemia after meals; 37-Sprouted ancient grains produce less of a sugar spike when digested than modern and Monsanto GMO grain seeds; 38-Curry leaves are a good source of calcium, phosphorous, iron, magnesium, copper and an anti-diabetic substance that slows glucose digestion; 39-Citrus fruit, juice, skin and pulp adds anti-oxidant and helpful flavinoids to diet; 40-Vanadium a chemical found in dill, eggs, radishes, and pepper that mimics the effects of insulin and helps to keep blood glucose levels normal (considered one of the best supplements for diabetes); 41-Purslane a popular food in Asia and Europe that helps your bodyâs cells absorb glucose more efficiently while slowing the transportation of glucose from your intestines into your bloodstream; 42-Gymnema Sylvestre an extracted supplement from leaves rich in special acids that slow the rate of glucose transportation (from intestines to bloodstream).

Please note that you should carefully try to use these treatments one at a time due to the possible added effect they can have when used together to make blood sugar drop too low. This is especially true for supplements and extracts. Once you have the experience, you can add together for a greater positive effect.
Viral Link to Diabetes
I am 64 and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes around 2014., after being misdiagnosed as a type 2 in 2011, I have been seen by the head of the Department of Endocrinology at University of Florida. The current theory is it's a virus that causes type 1. The reason they believe that is organ donors who had been type one for decades, who died unexpectedly had their pancreas donated to University of Florida. When they examined the pancreas they were surprised to find at least half the normal amount of insulin. That goes against their original theory that the type one person's pancreas does not produce sufficient insulin.
Also, there are case studies of a patient who was not diabetic undergoing surgery and an accident during injured the pancreas during surgery leaving them with only half of the normal amount of insulin production afterwards but they never develop diabetes.
Therefore the scientists understand that a person can live successfully with half of the normal insulin production and not become diabetic. They believe that this virus in the pancreas produces by products that interfere with a chemical reaction that is supposed to occur when there is sugar in the bloodstream that triggers the insulin to go into the bloodstream.
They believe that chemical reaction is not occurring. They are going to do studies to try to develop a drug to immobilize the byproduct of the virus. I asked why not just eradicate the virus in the pancreas. doctor explained there are no drugs capable of killing this virus.
However I know of a company that sells liquid minerals that has successfully treated otherwise incurable conditions like West Nile disease in horses. I believe they can come up with a protocol with their liquid minerals to eradicate the virus.
One I suspect would be to take a couple tablespoons of platinum produced by this company followed by a couple tablespoons five minutes later of their silver and do that two to three times a day for at least a couple months. I hope this helps
I just saw a doctor from MIT explain how glysophate (which is residual left from when they kill wheat with round up) is the biggest cause of all inflammation in our bodies. India is done with GMO'S and going all organic -I wish they would here. But big Pharm and doctors would go broke. They also don't want people to know how bad aspartame really is and many aspartame using companies will pull commercial money if even mentioned in a show airing with their commercials.
I am wondering about the cause of Type 1 Diabetes. When my daughter was diagnosed in 2012, we were told by the doctors that the cause of Diabetes is unknown. This has left me to search on my own (mostly online) and to form a few hypotheses. I feel that a contributing factor was an Epstein-barr infection that my daughter and I contracted in 2008. I know I have never felt quite the same energy wise ever since. (I was recently diagnosed with Hasimoto's thyroid, another autoimmune disease.) I had a shingles outbreak right before her diagnosis. I have read about the possibility of a connection to childhood vaccinations and have chosen not to have my other child vaccinated for this reason. We also dealt with mold in our home at the time of her diagnosis. I have read that allergies to food (especially milk and wheat) and a vitamin D deficiency can lead to Type 1 Diabetes. So my questions to all of you out there reading this are: What do you think led to yourself or your loved one being diagnosed? Was there any illness prior to your diagnosis that you feel contributed? Are you vaccinated? Are there any unvaccinated people out there with Type 1 Diabetes? Thank you to Earth Clinic. Wishing you all love, light, and healing.
What an encouraging story! Thank you for sharing it. Good for you for taking responsibility for your health and beating the system. I am sure your experience will be helpful to others!

Apple Cider Vinegar
I will share with you Ted's recommendations which helped me a few years ago when I first began to shift my diet radically.
Clove essential oil, 1 drop in a quart of water drank over several hours is one cure recommended by Ted I personally used to correct my blood sugar swings and sugar addiction.
I used Vanadium (sodium vanadate) supplements, usually paired with chromium were of great use. Vanadium is available in many medicinal mushrooms.
Next are my own findings:
Red reishi mushrooms are a pancreas remedy.
So is the herbal mix: "Triphala" from india.
I also used Gymnema with great success
And as well; psyllium seed/ husk fiber. mixing this in my yogurt and cereals helped me not pass out from blood sugar spikes due to high carb meals. a rule of thumb is: for every gram of fiber, you can subtract 1 gram of carbs and thus 1 gram of sugar from your meal. Fiber helps pass sugar through the system in a balanced way.
I never had diabetes, but my family is predisposed to it.
My biggest remedies in order of efficacy were clove oil, then gymnema, and to this day I still take the psyllium, as well as try to eat as much fiber as possible - like from carrots. The vanadium was important too. once I got it built up in my system for a few months, I no longer needed it, though. max daily dose of vanadium is 10 milligrams. I didn't usually go above 1 milligram a day. but I wasnt diabetic. perhaps they would need more.
If I had a pancreas deficiency, I would take all of the above daily, for life, except for the vanadium which I would stop after a few months, then only as needed. my body became itchy and lethargic after so long taking it, so I knew it was time to halt.
Also; the pancreas breaks down fatty acids and protein amino acids. so it needs bicarbonates to function right.
I do still take baking soda food grade with Apple Cider Vinegar daily, 1/4 tsp BSO in a cup of water then mix in a tbsp of ACV. BSO by itself can cause stones in kidney, galbladder, if taking too long by itself. ACV has magnesium and potassium and acid the help the body properly make use of the BSO. The pancreas needs bicarbonate to break down acids in our diet. Help it do it's work and it probably regulates blood sugar / insulin better.
If we drank ground water / ate of the earth like centuries ago, we'd naturally get more bicarbonates that we need, and not need to take things like baking soda to replenish them, and probably have a lower overall rate of pancreatic dysfunction as a society.
BSO/ ACV mix is best taken 30 min before or 2 hr after meals. otherwise expect GI upset and poor digestion.
I hope you find things that work for your son.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Melatonin is good for both BMS and T2DM. Unfortunately it requires a prescription in Ireland. Here in the US it is available over the counter in most stores with no prescription required. I am attaching a link to a recent study that you can show to your doctor so he can write you a script for melatonin, preferably in a dissolvable lozenge that you let slowly dissolve in your mouth to help optimize the effect in the mouth for BMS.
It may also be helpful to chew gum that contains xylitol such as these available on Amazon UK :
If you are interested in natural alternatives for diabetes, let me know.
I know a child who developed Type I diabetes after immunizations.
So happy to hear that chromium is helping you.

Our family went on a clean diet and we eliminated sugars. We were eating whole foods, and raw foods. Our bodies were getting a steady protein supply and great nourishment, thereby taking away that awful food cravings that never stopped. Had I known it was this simple to enjoy life, I would have started years ago. Eat good nourishment, and you do not crave foods.
Butyrate, Pre and Probiotics
Vitamin D deficiency is a symptom of the cause. The cause is twofold, the one being gut flora, and the other being industrial (exhaust fumes, chemical waste, etc, primarily metal residues), environmental (mold toxins), or by ill-placed allopathic advice (repeated antibiotic treatments, amalgams in teeth), activities that interfere with the base of the type 1 diabetic's immune system, the gut wall lining and the interplay between it and it's inhabitants.
Seek information on butyric acid (butyrate).
Butyrate is a product of gut flora feeding off of resistant starches present in very fresh fruits and vegetables. It is a short-chain fatty acid, and is used in epithelial tissues, the production of neurotransmitters, reduction of inflammatory responses, raising insulin sensitivity, skin health, and the development of beta islet cells.
Also, Segmented Filamentous Bacteria in the jejunum (2nd part, small intestine) prevent the development of type 1 Diabetes by helping the Th17 immune system cells to develop and mature. These are vital in the immune system's responce to inflammation and microbial attack beyond the gut lining.
The lining of the gut is an epithelial tissue. Progenitor cells for alpha, beta and gamma cells in the islet of lagerhans originate in the gut wall, migrate through the bloodstream to the pancreas, and are matured into their different types in a process also mediated by butyrate (at the mitochondrial level).
Gut flora are also vital for the synthesis of all vitamins, especially the ones lacking to varying degrees in diabetics, A, D, E and K(1 and 2).
The battle begins at the body tissue level for diabetics both type 1 & 2, as systematic biofilm infections live together with whatever toxic agent has allowed their growth to accelerate. (Youtube search biofilms/mycoplasma and type 1 diabetes for confirmation. Don't stop at just knowing the name. Get to know what they are).
'Silver' fillings are the secondary culprit beside stress and secondhand smoke in my case. Biofilm colonies thrive in the presence of metallic compounds, and amalgams are designed to kill colonising bacteria in the mouth - they also do so in the gut. There are /other/ gut flora components that thrive despite the metallic contaminants.
Once the epithelial lining of the gut wall is compromised by a reduction in the production of butyric acid in the colon, food particles and gut flora can spread easily into the surrounding tissues via the bloodstream.
The pancreas is just one of those organs first struck by those ingredients for disaster.
I suggest research on gut diversity, prebiotic and probiotic foods (fermented foods), the gut biome changes in type 1 diabetic children in mexico, techniques for combatting systematic candidiasis, and gentle detoxification therapies.
Karen, don't beat yourself up over this. G-d doesn't give babies to old ladies with lots of life experience, He gives them to young women who are just starting out! You did the best you could with the tools you had.
What you are doing now is great! She sounds healthy and happy. But relax on it because, it may, just may, NOT have been from what you fed her. And take heart, a friend of mine with type 1 got married, has many children and is living a wonderful life!
I just wanted to make a comment about diabetes in children or anyone for that fact. HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) has been linked to obesity and diabetes. It is in products you would never think of like condiments and bread, not just cookies and ice cream. Not to mention when you go out to eat you have no control over what they use. There is also an addictive component to HFCS which makes a person have a need to keep consuming. I saw this first hand when we switched out these products with organic versions, of these products. My children no longer were eating as much.
I'm sure it's not just HFCS but also GMO foods. Not only is most wheat in the states GMO wheat, but the standard procedure in harvesting this wheat is to douse it with roundup once, supposedly it seeds one more time after doing this, I'm not sure what the motive is however we consume this wheat laden with roundup. There are people that thought they had gluten issues however when using such products as Einkhorn (organic wheat flour) they realized it wasn't a gluten issue. I believe all these chemical laden and GMO foods are the culprit and the fact that our children's immune systems are damaged through vaccines in contributing to the issue. I can say this because our son had vaccine poisoning. we were able to undo most of the damage through cleansing and supplements, boosting immune system. Many of his health issues disappeared. After doing years of research on vaccinations because Doctors told us we would have to live with his health issues, I realize now the damage they cause and the science behind it is a farce in my opinion.

Be sure to look at some of the causes of burning mouth Syndrome listed on the Dr Axe page closely.
If you have one of the known underlying medical causes of secondary BMS, symptoms may arise at any time during illness and treatment. Some common medical conditions that can cause burning mouth symptoms include:
- Sjogren's Syndrome
- Radiation therapy
- Low blood pressure medications
- Vitamin B deficiency
- Iron deficiency
- Acid reflux
- Thyroid problems
- Fungal infection in the mouth
- Dentures that don't fit properly
- Allergic reactions to dyes, foods, toothpaste, fragrances or environmental elements
Risk factors for primary BMS include:
- Being female
- Over the age of 50
- Dry mouth
- A recent illness
- A recent traumatic life event
- Elevated stress levels
- Undiagnosed anxiety and depression
One of them is Iron deficiency. There is a post from EC by Mrs. Smith of Central Va, US. Her condition improved by adding Iron foods to her diet. Therefore, do a little detective work and find out if any of the above risks is cause the condition.

Linda: The trace mineral Chromium is critical for sugar metabolism in humans, plus other nutrients, so take a high quality multivitamin/mineral supplement 2x daily with meals and take extra 200 mcgms Chromium Picolinate. In between meals take 100mg (ALA) Alpha Lipoic Acid 2x day, and slowly upregulate to 200mg and 300mg.

You don't give your son's age, if he is an adult, magnesium is a noninvasive approach that I wrote about previously here :
I wrote about it for type 2 diabetes (T2DM), but it would be beneficial for type 1 also.
I also wrote about the use of Berberine for T2DM, but it can also be helpful for type 1 as it is known to lower blood sugar level and insulin resistance while improving insulin sensitivity :
Another useful supplement for diabetes is Benfotiamine, a fat soluble form of vitamin B1. There are other supplements that can offer benefit such as vitamin D. These four supplements have studies to support their use for diabetes and other health issues and have good safety profiles in human studies.
Because of the seriousness of diabetes and the fact that these supplements can reduce glucose levels, and increase insulin sensitivity, increasing the potential for hypoglycemia(low blood sugar), which can be very dangerous, it is imperative that you and or your son use these supplements under the supervision of a doctor or medical healthcare professional.

Dmso also helps with fungus and thickened nails. You can get it on Amazon. I was taking 20 units of long acting Triesba and am now down to 9 units. I try my best to stay away from carbs yet Dr push them. Only reason I even go to dr is to get insulin. I have gone pretty much all natural and take a lot of vitamins for anything that bothers me. Been type 1 since diagnosed at the age of 7 and will be 65 this year
Hi Beberobozo from New York... RE So now I am doing the baking soda and lemons. Is that what you mean by citrate acid. ? Lemons or limes?? Ans: Lemons and Limes contain Citric Acid. But you can also purchase in a granular/powdered form. I alternate between adding fresh squeezed lemon juice and powdered citric acid. I buy Food Grade Citric Acid in bulk from a food/herb supplier on Ebay.
Hi Timh from Ky, Usa... Thanks heaps for recommendations for rebuilding the liver and pancreas. I do take Milk Thistle Seed and Organic Flaxseed oil for liver... And although I have Humic Acid... I've only been taking sporadically, so I will now make it a 'regular'. I also have green (Granny Smith) apples as the Malic Acid in them is good for liver. I will definitely look for pancreas formulas too.
RE: Chromium, I also take this on a regular basis, however I use 'chromium polynicotinate', not 'Chromium Picolinate', simply because 'Polynicotinate' is made up of chromium and niacin and the niacin helps the chromium absorption. There was also some research in the 1990s that suggested that higher doses of Chromium Picolinate could damage DNA. Anyways I use a product by Natures Way called 'GTF Chromium'.
Hi Debbie T. From Australia RE: many people who have diabetes have benefitted from lowering or eliminating grains, carbohydrates and sugar. Ans: I totally agree. Unfortunately, Diabetes Nutritionists (in Aus) prescribe to a certain amount of carbohydrate in the daily diet. Originally I tried to follow that protocol... But it just made life so difficult... Just a single slice of bread can send my BGL rocketing skywards (to around 12 mmol/l, or 216 mg/dl), then it takes forever to bring it down again. However, I've found recent research which suggests that perhaps the current eating recommendations for diabetics are incorrect and should be turned on their head... To very low carbohydrate consumption instead. But, I work on the principle that life has to have a few 'joys'. So I'm careful when it doesn't matter... So I don't have to be when it does matter. In other words I plan ahead. If I intend having an occasional coffee and cake with the girls... I'm very careful in the weeks leading up to it, and on the day I conteract possible effects beforehand. That way - no stress, no guilt... And the friends don't have to feel like they have to be cautious for my sake. I found that over the last 18 months I've changed my way of thinking about diabetes... I now rule diabetes... it doesn't rule me.
Hi Judy, there are people who greatly reversed their diabetes (or cured it) going grain free/low carbohydrate.
Myself, I don't have diabetes but I have lost about 6 pounds in last week and my eyesight is actually clearer (many people have reported this as well-some their eyesight improving as much as 3 points). I am jumping out of bed about 7am wide awake. Previously it was an effort at 9am. I don't feel like sleeping in the afternoon like I was previously. My appetitite is such that I can eat twice a day and not feel hungry in between at all. My migraines which I was getting regularly which were getting worse and worse have vanished. Cellulite in my legs is simply vanishing. My belly is not bloated anymore and gas is now non existant. By Christmas I will be down to my ideal weight I think. All this without exercise and any real effort on my part.
@jenna yes nutritionalists are saying one thing but research and anecdotal evidence from real people is another. They told us to eat low fat, which made people eat more carbohydrates because they were constantly hungry. They told us to eat margarine which is made from oils which are now known to be bad for heart disease. Too many carbohydrates ensure you will need more insulin. Lower carbohydrates and you will need less insulin. This has been demonstrated many times yet they still are telling people to eat more carbohydrates.
More and more kids are getting type 1 diabetes because of a cabohydrate overload.
@Jenna so glad you have got your diabetes under control.
Know that wheat contains a protein called "Gliadin" google it. It is an opiate that makes you want more wheat products. Once you break free you will feel better. Wheat and flours are also causing heart disease and inflammation in the body so every time you eat it you are effectively inflamming your body more.
There are many wonderful cookbooks that are full of yummy recipes that are actually healthy. You could carry your own cake along. How often have you bought a cake in a shop and it never lives up to waht it looks like? More likely it has been sitting there for weeks and is full of preservatives to make it last longer and look good.
Take a look at your friends eating all the cake they want. Do they look healthy?
Probiotics and Alkalization
CURE FOR DIABETES 1 – PROBIOTICS AND ALKALISATION.
The human body is home of trillions of bacteria, viruses, fungi and other tiny organisms. They are called microbes. An average healthy adult has about 15 % bad microbes and 85 % good (probiotic) microbes in the digestive system. This can be determined by stool testing. When the gut flora contains too many harmful (bad) microbes and not enough good microbes, an imbalance can occur. Metabolism is a term that is used to describe all chemical reactions in maintaining the living state of the cells and the organism. This includes:
1) The breakdown molecules to obtain energy and
2) Synthesis of all compounds needed by the cells (e.g., vitamins, enzymes, etc.).
A metabolic disorder occurs when the metabolism fails and causes the body to have either too much or too little of the essential substances needed to stay healthy. Metabolic disorder can be determined from stool testing by identifying list of probiotic strains below normal level and list of bad strains that are above normal levels in the stool.
According to Mayo clinic and Cleveland clinic, metabolic syndrome is defined as a collection of risk factors that increase the chance of developing:
1) Cardiovascular disease,
2) Stroke due to blockage and
Any disease associated with metabolic disorder can be cured only by following one or more of the following:
1) Consume probiotics with the required probiotic strains to fix the underlying metabolic disorders.
2) Consume fibre-rich foods (e.g. ground flax seed, cinnamon powder, etc.) so that it will help in the multiplication of probiotic microbes since fibres are food for good microbes.
3) Reduce the consumption of sugar since sugar is the food for bad microbes in the digestive system.
Recently, I met a person who was Diabetes 2 for a long time. He took 2 teaspoon of ground flax seed for about six months. He also reduced consumption of sugar drastically.
He is no longer Diabetes 2. Ground flax seed can be considered as one of the prebiotic foods since it is fibre-rich.
According to an article available in the net titled “Probiotics and Prebiotics for the Amelioration of Type 1 Diabetes”, Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease characterized by immune-mediated destruction of pancreatic beta cells. The interaction between gut microbiota and host immune cells plays a critical role in the development of Type 1 Diabetes.
The suggested probiotic strains to treat Diabetes 1 as given in the article are: 1) L. Brevis, 2) Streptococcus Thermophilus, 3) L. Reuteri, 4) lactococcus Lactis, 5) L. Rhamonous, 6) L. Plantarum, 7) B. Longum, 8) B. Lactis, 9) L. Johnsonii and 10) L. Fermentum. I searched the net to find multi strain probiotic brands that contain at least 8 probiotic strains from the suggested 10 probiotic strains. I spent more than 2 hours in the net to find 6 brands that satisfy this requirement. The brands are listed below in the alphabetical order:
1) CaptainBiotics Probiotic – 19 probiotic strains.
2) Garden of Life RAW Probiotics for Women – 32 probiotic strains.
3) INNATE Vitality women's Probiotic – 17 probiotic strains.
4) InnovixLabs Multi strain Probiotic – 31 probiotic strains.
5) NewRhythm Probiotic – 20 probiotic strains.
6) Terranics Probiotic – 19 probiotic strains.
One can do additional search in the net to find additional brands that satisfy the requirement. Then select the brand you like most and take one tablet / capsule per day. It may be a good idea to take 2 teaspoon of ground flax seed at night.
If a person is Diabetes 1 for a long time, the person may have a large number of damaged cells in the body due to high blood sugar level. When we eat food, our blood sugar level will go up. Normal cells will store sugar and release sugar when body needs it. But damaged cells will not store any sugar. Because of this, blood sugar level two hours after eating will be high. In order to solve this problem, there is a need to convert damaged cells in the body into normal cells. For this, one has to do the following:
1) Increase the supply of oxygen to damaged cells. This can be done by breathing exercise and consuming foods rich in chlorophyll and iron (e.g., spinach).
2) Alkalise the body. There are many different ways to alkalise the body. One simple way is to drink lemon water. Lemon water can be prepared as follows: If a person will consume about 8 cups of drinking water per day, then take 8 cups of drinking water and add about 3 slices of whole lemon (including outer skin). Then soak them for about 12 hours. In the morning, remove the lemon slices and drink the lemon water throughout the day.
People who are taking immunosuppressant drug cannot any probiotics. It may be better idea to talk to your doctor regarding this. It will take about 2 to 3 months to see improvements.
It is thought by some experts to be caused by a virus. The virus attacks the beta cells in the pancreas. I do believe that there usually is a genetic predisposition for this to happen, however.

Hi there... I suffer from severe neuropathy all over my body. I had type 2 diabetes now have type 1 I have to check sugar levels at least 10 times a day... I loath doing this It sends me into such pain. I cant wear any restricted clothing ie socks, underwear and anything form fitting. I also take gabapentin? I tried lyrica and made me worse! I am looking for holistic help a friend told me about apple cider and baking soda? Yuck but I will try anything. Thanks for your words! Be Blessed!

Hi young lady, it's been 8 yrs since you posted info on Type 1 Diabetes. Past 15 yrs I have gotten involved with medications, drugs and the healing process. Big PHARMA medications (AKA: Drugs) cure nothing, they treat Symptoms only and have Dangerous side effects including Death, suicides. I detest USA Drugs, I use alternative medicines because they treat root cause of problem(s) I recommend alternatives to earthclinic, and many online people suffering. I never charge a fee, nor am I wealthy but I do agree with you regarding that Big PHARMA places profits over human lives. I treat my son during past 15 yrs after seeing what medications/Drugs do. If you have any issues please send me a message here and I would be happy to give you info that is free. Presently some unknown person needs info on Type 1 Diabetes, therefore I am searching all over to send info. Thank you, Joseph A.

Nat Sulph 6X Cell Salt
Nat. Sulph (sodium sulphite) 6X is a homeopathic cell salt that is recommended for diabetes mellitus. I recently began giving it to my daughter who was diagnosed a year and a half ago. So far we have not seen dramatic improvement, but her blood glucose numbers do seem to have stabilized a bit. Another plus is that she actually enjoys the taste of this remedy over the herbs (gymnea sylvestre, bitter melon, bilberry) which I have tried to give her. It was also recommended that we remove gluten and dairy from her diet. I have had a hard time doing this completely to a young child who already feels she can't eat anything that "tastes good", without the cooperation of other well-meaning people in her life who feed her these foods, and the general prevalence of gluten and dairy in so many foods. I know that type 1 diabetes is linked to other auto immune disorders and cutting out gluten and dairy is listed as a recommendation for each one I have looked at on Earthclinic tonight. Maybe we should give it another shot.
Type 1 Diabetes Remedies
Thanks for the suggestions. I will try any and all to try to cure this. I have tried a fairly large number of remedies to date without success but will keep trying. Over the years there have been methods found that appeared to cure type 1 diabetes but they never come to market. There is too much money to be made on the testing strips, insulin and associated items. That is why I am asking for suggestions. I appreciate any and all. This is a wonderful site with wonderful people participating. I am so glad to have found it. Thanks one and all!!
Viral Link to Diabetes
Actually - the virus just attacks - which causes the immune system to go haywire and then the immune system starts attacking your cells - including your beta cells - this is how it was explained to me by an endocrinologist and NIH.
Karen, thank you for your reply. I've been regretting my daughter's vaccinations for years. I was always on the fence but convinced by family that it was the right thing to do. My son, who is unvaccinated, does seem to have a stronger constitution, but maybe he would have been healthier anyway. Thank you for the tip about the black cumin oil. Synchronicity is always an amazing thing: my friend mentioned it to me a few days ago and I had never heard of it before.( I hope it tastes good though, otherwise my daughter won't take it.)
I've been giving the kids 6,000 IU of vitamin D because a deficiency has been linked to diabetes as most cases are diagnosed in either the winter or spring when vitamin D levels are at their lowest. I've gone gluten free but the rest of the family still eats gluten. My hope is to convince my daughter at some point to try it as well. I recently read that dairy intolerance and diabetes share the same gene, so that is another area we could improve. I still give her butter and some cheese.
There are people who have reversed diabetes through raw green smoothies who have videos on YouTube. Someone told me that she used to have a book about curing diabetes with honey(?! ). I looked online but couldn't find any information. My partner met a woman who had both her pancreas and kidneys replaced and no longer has diabetes. Replacing just the pancreas doesn't work in the long term because the new pancreas will eventually be destroyed by the body. I wonder what the connection between the kidneys and diabetes is.
Violet Cerrilos, speaking of one's constitution, I have been watching and looking to see if minerals were mentioned or not. I believe a full complement of minerals will produce a strong constitution. Minerals are also naturally anti-fungal and anti-cancer in nature. Senate document 264 is a report about the mineral shortage of the land in the USA. Fulvic acid minerals are what I use to build up my mineral losses/reserves. I also use Bioplasma, a 12 cell salt item that is homeopathic in nature. I also had read that zinc supplementation was useful for diabetic type II folks. But I wanted to get it out there, that possibly, the mothers of these children were short in minerals and therefore produced deficient babies. And with the information about this never mentioned for mass consumption, folks just plain do not know til after the fact. I hope people find this info useful to them.
Karen....Vaccines also contain GMOs just like so many grain products.....you might want to do some research on it.....(A video called "The Truth About Vaccines can be found on Youtube.com )
I am responding to this quite late so I don't know if Karen will see this since she posted in 2014.
I was diagnosed at age 9 (35 years ago) with type 1. I became very ill after being vaccinated (I was in bed for over a week before my parent took me to the hospital) and there I was diagnosed with type 1. Not a shock - my mother died (at the age of 28) when I was 6 and she developed type 1 diabetes at the age of 3.
My grandmother (Mother's side) was diagnosed with type 1 at the age of 40. She had her leg amputated at the age of 70 and died shortly thereafter. My aunt (Mother's sister) was diagnosed at age 20 and died at 50. All the type 1 females on my mother's side only lived 30 years or less after being diagnosed - except for me.
I am now facing a host of ailments and every day is a struggle - I have severe neuropathy and PAD and was just diagnosed as having critical limb ischemia. I am not telling you this to scare you - I am telling you this because you are an awesome mother for even trying to find answers. I didn't see my first endocrinologist until I was 25 - when I had my first real job with insurance benefits. One of the things I agree with so far that I have read on this site is taking ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid) - start your child on it ASAP! When our sugars go high - it creates a byproduct that circulates in our bloodstream that causes free radicals - these are bad little dudes that destroy everything - veins, organs, etc.. ALA destroys these radicals. Start on a low dose - when I started with 250mg a day - I was super sick - but I think it was because my body was detoxing the free radicals. My neuropathy has gotten a little better. I came to this site in hopes to find answers for PAD and neuropathy - but the posts are sporadic at best and I can't find other posts I have submitted looking for answers. I will keep searching though. I did go down to NIH about 10 years ago for a T1D study. They concluded that I have "the gene" and I am not MODY - whatever that means... They have tested me twice in my 35 years to see if my pancreas is still making insulin and it is - just a tiny amount - barely traceable.
Most T1D's already know that it is our immune system attacking the beta cells on our pancreas and that is why we can't make insulin. With this disease, over time, your immune system will start to attack other organs such as your thyroid, kidney's, liver, etc. For instance - I cannot tolerate gluten at all now and dairy is the worst thing a T1D can consume. Ever wonder why chocolate milk stops a low-sugar reaction dead in its tracks - over orange juice, glucose tablets and other sugary stuff? It's the dairy! Once they can figure out how to stop the immune system from attacking the beta cells - they might be on to something. I did read a study on how type 1 diabetics were given high doses of Acyclovir and ganciclovir (Epstein-Barr associated drug therapies) and while they were on the meds their pancreas worked just fine. As soon as they were taken off - they had to be put back on insulin - But these were "honeymooners."
I have left the link below to the JDRF clinical trials site - all though I am not a huge fan - if T1D were cured - there would be no JDRF! All I can see is don't lose hope and keep on searching! Https://www.jdrf.org/impact/research/clinical-trials/
@Jenna: Thanks for your progress report on diabetes, and congrats to you.
I have never been diagnosed w/ diabetes or glucose problems, but I do have other serious metabolic/ detox/ and immune problems. Also a fungal infection simply loves the sugar, so I take some measures of prevention which I will disclose.
Chromium Picolinate 200mcs 2 or 3x daily. An herbal Gymnema/Cinnimon/Mullberry complex at least 1x daily. 2gms MSM fallowed by 300mg ALA helps w/ detox and metabolism; 1 125mg DMG daily seems very much helpful in the same regard.
Suggestions. For help in rebuilding the liver and pancreas take Raw Glandular supplements. Milk Thistle Seed will greatly help the liver. As for electrolyte deficiencies and imbalances it seems that 10 drops, at least 2x daily, of Liquid Ionic Trace Minerals from prehistoric sources would help, likewise w/ Fulvic or Humic Acid products. There are also some good herbal pancreas formulas on the market; Solaray has one w/ added homeopathic substances as well as the raw glandular, so it's a really complete one which would stand to really help regeneration of those beta cells.
Also anything you could do to improve or boost HGH would help; I've posted several ways here on E.C.
Good luck and post any more updates here for others.
I just read a good article that said cocoa dropped the need for insulin by an amount that was significant, unsweetened of course. It might be worth googling to check it out.
Type 1 Diabetes Remedies
Vitamin D may be helpful at the right dosage. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22751874
"Earthing" or grounding is also discussed by Dr Steven Sinatra who has a web site and more discussion on the benefits than even Dr Mercola. The idea sounded kooky when I first heard it but it has sound science behind it. Just look at the Sinatra and Mercola sites. The basic idea is simple; with shoes off let bare feet touch the earth for as long as one can on a daily basis if possible. The earth's electrical charge can actually alter blood flow by lessening the clumping of blood platlets. They refer to a book I'd heard of years ago: The Body Electric which advocates the importance of negative ions for the human body. You can get a lot of negative ions in a thunder storm, walking on a sandy ocean beach and just walking in the grass.
On the doctor who told you Vitamin causes cancer, so many Vitamin E sutudies use synthetic Vitamin E (dl-alpha tocopherol) instead of Vitamin E natural (d-alpha tocopherol) and the synthetic has given lots of negative results. The natural E is hugely helpful; a carrier of oxygen, critical for proper clotting but internal is a blood thinner, an anti oxydent... 20 plus benefits to the body. I've been taking 1, 000 iu of d-alpha tocopherol daily for 30 years.
Have you read "The pH Miracle for Diabetes" by Robert Young PhD ?? This recommends an holistic treatment through diet to reverse Type1 & 2.

I was diagnosed eight months ago with Burning Mouth Syndrome and have been T2 for 15yrs. Been to GP, Oral Surgery at Hosp and Dentist. No help given other than artificial saliva spray. Symptoms were mouth ulcers, swelling of face/lips and difficulty eating. I've lost 1 st in weight. Limited diet and no salt, sugar, gluten, spices etc. Losing hope. Can you offer any help please? Sorry for length of post.
One thing that many people who have diabetes have benefitted from is lowering or eliminating grains, carbohydrates and sugar.
Research "wheat free". Many people don't know that wheat (or white or wholewheat bread) for instance will raise your blood sugar up by as much as a can of soda or a candy bar. This has been documented in scientific literature. Add to that a few biscuits, a slice of cake or more during the day and you have multiple spikes of insulin occuring during the day.
Also carbohydrate foods like too much fruit or root vegetables will raise insulin levels.
Gluten free foods contain many starches which also will raise insulin levels way too high so are very bad for diabetics.
Many people who have cut out grains and only had less than 50 grams of carbohydrates per day are able to get their problem under control, many are reversing all diabetic symptoms (type II). Some type 1's have been able to get off insulin (some).
Wow, your story is very inspiring and good luck to you.. sounds great.. I am not a diabetic but I do have high blood pressure and I was scared into the medication but that is another story. So now I am doing the baking soda and lemons. Is that what you mean by citrate acid. ? Lemons or limes?? Thank you..
@Jenna: Looks like you are definitely moving forward in your battle w/ D.M. Yes, the form of chromium you are taking is the best. Also, you must look into Alpha Lipoic Acid as it is proven to help carbohydrate metabolism as well as improve liver function and more if used properly. The ALA seems to have very much potential in your case. R-ALA is said to be the best form.
Please beware they have had some Studies recently that say taking baking soda too much burns out the Kidneys. xo
Re Baking soda harming kidneys;
Could you please reference your source...I just googled "Baking soda kidney damage" and only came up with the good Baking soda can do for the kidney.
Type 1 Diabetes Remedies
Does Ted or anyone else have any remedies for type 1 diabetes. I was 60 years old when I got it. They treated me as a type 2 and nearly killed me. Thanks for any and all suggestions.
Two months ago I asked my dr to give me some oxygen because I live close to an oil refinery that recently had a spill and could smell benzene sometimes and would feel short of breath. Had a lung function test that showed I have the beginnings of emphysema and my blood oxygen was 88. She said when you're on oxygen you forget to breathe and refused. Three weeks later I went to ER because I was extremely short of breath and I had pneumonia. They took so many blood tests they had to take blood from both arms. I was in the hospital five days and besides antibiotics I got cortisone in the form of tablets. When I went in my ankles werent swollen. 2 1/2 days later they started to swell and my blood sugar went up terribly.
I am diabetic and they said the Blood Sugar rise was to be expected. They said the ankle and leg swelling was because I was sitting in the edge of the bed with my feet dangling so they put compression socks on. Because they are tubes they cut off the circulation above my instep and ankle was about three times normal size on right side. Took the things off and now swelling can go down at night. Have been home about three weeks. I can live with that, but now I have pain in my left hip and knee when I get up from sitting position. I have had this pain (slightly) for quite awhile but not to the extent it is now. Once I stand the pain on left side is very bad, but once I manage to take a step with right foot the pain goes away. This is not arthritis pain. Going up and down a step or two doesn't bother it. Trying to get situated in bed is an ordeal. I lie on my left side. Trying to lie on right side the pain on left makes that impossible. I first thought it was sciatica until it got so bad. Now I wonder if it's related to diabetes. Dr has never said anything. Only asks how I would rate it.
Four days ago I had very little pain and next day I was on my feet a lot and that night the knee and hip hurt so bad I had to sit up all night. The next day the pain was still bad. I had to take 2 tylenol rather than just one. Today the pain is a lot better and I may have found what helps it. I ate strawberries. A time before when it lessened, I ate strawberries. I also have decreased kidney function and cannot take magnesium or a lot of the other things suggested here. Any one diabetic ever had this and what was done for it?
Judy: It seems your body responds neg or pos to whatever it may encounter from the environment. In short, your defenses are very low.
To begin correcting these weaknesses start w/ a women's multivitimin/mineral supplement w/ super-foods and enzymes, really the best women's multi you can afford. Next, take Chromium Picolinate and Cinnamon to get the diabetes under control. Now, for the kidneys, any herbal "kidney formula" will help. D-Mannose and Cranberry Juice will help.
After doing these remedies you should be feeling much better but I would recommend doing some common detox https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/detoxification.html.
Also increase antioxidant nutrition. I would recommend beginning w/ Brazil Nuts for Selenium (2 per day for 1mo then one per day) plus Vit-E (full spectrum). Water soluble antioxidants like Pine Bark, and Grape Seed Extracts will help. A "Carotinoid Complex" plus Pumpkin Seeds (good source of Zinc) will also greatly help.
To Timh in Louisville KY. Thank you for your input. I have been taking Vit E, Astaxathin, Phynologol and black radish & parsley for the kidneys as well as L-Arginine, garlic, hawthorn, chromium and Vit D3. Kidney dr told me not to take vit C or a multiple vit. I do occasionaly anyway. The blood sugar I dont think is too much of a problem. The drs told me to cut glipizide pill in half because BS might go too low if I take 5 mg. As for cleansing I think I will start juicing -primarily carrots. Thats always done wonders for me. Strawberries apparantly didnt help. The pain on outside of my knee has gotten so bad I have to take 2 tylenol now, wait awhile and then I can put weight on left leg. Once I take first step with right the pain is usually gone.
After reading all I can about this I am pretty much convinced it's sciatica. I don't want to go to another specialist. Every time I follow drs advice, against my better judgement, I end up worse. I wouldn't pretend to know more than a dr, but I do question what they learn in college. One dr in the hospital told me taking herbs is akin to blood-letting. I've taken herbs since the 70s and didn't need a dr for 30 years-not til BS started going up 10 yrs ago. Then I got a drug for BP that raises BS (30pts) My diabetes was under control with diet only til I got that drug. Its been a problem since.
I wonder if anyone reading here has heard of Earthing? I got this info off Dr Mercolas site. I sent for a pad. Its guaranteed to show improvement in pain within 30 days (if not within a few hrs or days) when you use one of their pads in the house. I am ready to try anything. The testimonials look promising.
I need to be able to walk to build up strength in legs and cant do that because legs get tired. I gained 10 lbs in the hospital in 3 days. I blame that on cortizone but drs wont admit it. Kidney function is back to where it was months before I went in hospital.
One of the drs told me Vit E causes cancer. I wonder where they got that?
I know there are folks here that seem to be very knowledgeable and maybe someone can explain this.
Four years ago I took HCTZ (diaretic). Went two days without because could not get to drugstore. When I did take it again after approx 20 minutes I got up to get my dogs in and almost fell down. It took over half hour to manage to get outside and untie them and get in. Within 2 hrs my blood pressure shot up 20 pts. OK. That's a bad reaction.
Now I am on lasix and have been for over two years. I have been having this horrific pain in my hip joint and left knee for about two weeks. It had gotten to the point that even 2 tylenol tabs did not seem like enough. For the last two days I have skipped the lasix and gone to taking black radish and parsley as directed on the bottle and pain has decreased to the point that I take one tylenol about every 12 hrs. Swelling in right ankle and leg seems a little better and leg does not ache like it did before after being up on feet for more than ten minutes.
I do not know if my system cannot handle the lasix on consistant basis or if black radish and parsley is more natural and doing a better job. I tend to watch salt intake closely. My blood pressure is the same as it is on lasix. Also, I have decreased kidney function and am diabetic. BS under good control.
I think I will skip it one more day and take it again and see if pain comes back.
Regarding my hip and knee pain and" earthing".
I sent for earthing pad and also read book received with it. About page 21 the author writes about a Podiatrist that wrote many books and said the worst invention made by man was the shoe, or the soles on shoes. They throw off the gait so we don't walk mormally. I think there might be something to that.
When I got out of the hospital end of March my right foot and ankle were terribly swollen. I went into the hospital with pneumonia-no swelling. Was given cortizone, which I believe caused the swelling. I had a nurse and physical therapist coming to the house for 5 weeks. I couldn't wear shoes because of swelling of right foot, ankle and calf. The therapist brought me shoes she'd gotten from Goodwill that were 2 sizes bigger than what I wear. Thick leather, 3/4 inch soles and I was forced to walk flat-footed. Ive had some hip and leg pain on left side for a long time but not very bad.
Ever since I quit work about 10 years ago Ive worn indian moccasins almost exclusivly. While they have soles, they are very flexible. These new things were like wearing boards and the longer I wore them, the worse the pain became when I tried to get up. Once I managed to work through the pain and take a step with my right leg the hip and leg pain in left would go away.
The swelling in right foot and leg had gone down to the point I could get my regular shoes on and now the pain has subsided to the point that I can sometimes get up witth no pain at all and I'm rarely taking tylenol. I never had swelling in leg that gave me the pain.
Although I am using the earthing mat, I attribute the pain subsiding to wearing my regular shoes. I think the earthing pad has helped the swelling. According to the book its supposed to thin the blood as well as lots of other good things. I do notice that my blood pressure has gone down.
Dear! We have a 3 year old son who has type one diabetes. Can your treatment doses of insulin reduce and replace them with something else? Or, how can you help us? Please give us some information. Regards,
Helena from Slovenia
You might do some research on coconut and find some solutions... Maybe not all of them but some. I read a lot. Lots of information and some testimonials of sugar regulation and diabetes and alzheimers success stories.. Not sure if they were for type 1 diabetes. Hope this helps.
In reply to Helena from Celje, Slovenia: Please google vitamin d and type 1 diabetes in infants. This youtube video is also very good regarding the importance of vitamin D in type 1 or juvenile diabetes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTtmvMvgfl0. Art
Hello! I am 26 years old and have been a diabetic since I was 7. Unfortunately insulin cannot be replaced - its life saving medicine! BUT you can lower your doses of insulin if you have a healthy enough lifestyle.
Its a bit difficult for young kids to have diabetes, it especially puts stress on the parents. You want to make sure your child is always safe!
I would first recommend introducing your child to an Insulin Pump - particularly the Omni Pod. Its cordless and eliminates the need for long lasting insulin. It can be modified to exactly what your child needs based on activity and eating habits. Definitely ask your Childs endocrinologist about insulin pumps.
Secondly, VITAMINS. ESPECIALLY CINNAMON. Every doctor I have ever had has told me otherwise, BUT CINNAMON ACTUALLY LOWERS YOUR BLOOD SUGAR. Try it, you will see.
Unfortunately until there is a cure for Type 1 there is a limited number of things you can do to naturally control your diabetes. Make sure you instill healthy eating and lifestyle habits for your young child. Be their support system & perhaps find a diabetic support group, as diabetes can be very complicated & lead to depression.
Diabetes is very controllable and will not limit your child in anyway :)
