Natural Remedies for Dark Circles Under the Eyes

Dark Eyelids Remedies

Posted by Bostonewbie (Somerville, Ma) on 02/21/2013

Hello there, I've read about a few posts for remedies of dark circles, but does anyone else suffer from extremely dark eyelids? Mine are getting worse - and I'm sure they are hereditary and linked to allergies and exzema - if anyone has any suggestions out there - I'm desperate, thanks community!

Hi Bostonewbie, Oil pulling has lightened my darkened eyelids, along with applying Vitamin K cream to the lids. You can read about oil pulling here at Earth Clinic and can find a good Vitamin K cream at a health store. My darkened lids were due to years of itchy eyes and the subsequent rubbing to try to quell the itch. Upon inspection with a lighted magnified mirror, I saw tiny broken blood vessels all along the eyelids--the culprits of the darkening.

Another skin brightener is plain yogurt. After washing my face, I pat it dry and apply a thin layer of plain yogurt, letting it set as a mask for twenty minutes each night before rinsing. One can use non-fat, low fat, or regular plain yogurt. I've tried each and prefer low fat. The skin feels moisterized and dewy afterward, and is brightened considerably. I recommend organic yogurt for this.

I hope this helps.

Dark circles are caused by lack of minerals. If you drink R/O or distilled water you need to put back in the minerals. That's why some people on this forum say ACV helps, APC has minerals. But if you need more, take fulvic minerals. I use a brand of fulvic minerals that is clear. It doesn't stain teeth like other fulvic/humic can. So add more minerals.

If you have bags under your eyes, you need to make dietary changes.

1) When I stopped eating salt and salty foods, I still had bags under my eyes.

2) When I stopped eating processed foods, I still had bags under my eyes.

3) When I stopped eating grains and gluten, I still had bags under my eyes.

4) When, for energy, I started relying more and more on fats, as opposed to carbs, I still had bags under my eyes. However,

5) Ever since I have been on a ZERO-CARB DIET, the bags under my eyes are barely visible.

6) The bottom line is, mainstream sources push salty foods, processed foods, grains, fruits and vegetables, They also claim, "Whole grains are the most wonderfully healthy food", "Fruit is the most awesome food on earth", "Carbohydrates are healthy and needed for energy", "Fiber is healthy and needed in the diet", "Dietary fat should be no more than 30% of calories", "Saturated animal fats are the cause of heart disease", "Hard cheeses are unhealthy", "Chicken fat is poison that instantly plugs your arteries", and "Eggs cause bad cholesterol". However, ever since I've been doing the exact opposite of everything they're telling me to do, I no longer have bags under my eyes.

I've had dark circles since forever. When I put on makeup, the most important thing I'd use was concealer. In my late 40s, I started to see a raccoon in the mirror.

I totally cleaned up my diet and my dark circles are much, much lighter - I don't bother with concealer any more. I can't say what did the trick since I made lots of dietary changes at once. Here's what I did:

Gave up all processed foods - make everything from scratch.

Gave up gluten.

Replaced soybean/corn/canola with olive oil/butter/coconut oil.

Try to get grassfed meat, raw dairy, organic fruit and veggies when possible.

Added fermented foods to diet.

I never thought my dark circles would improve. Thought it was genetic. Many other health issues improved as well. It's a sign of good health.

Good luck

My gluten intolerance was causing dark spots under my eyes. Just an idea to check.

For dark marks on the inner eyes, have Ferrum Phos 6x (Schuessler Biochemic Salts) daily till they disappear. This particular cell salt is also good for bleeding.

How many pellets you take and how many times a day? Which brands do you think are better quality? Thank you!

I have inadvertently discovered an incredibly simple treatment for dark circles under the eyes..

I have always had dark circles under my eyes, and they are especially noticeable in the fall and winter. If I eat something with a lot of sugar, my dark circles are twice as dark the next morning, so my best remedy to date was simply to cut back on sugar and wheat. Helpful but not a cure. I have tried a lot of remedies and products over the years to see what could help this issue!

I have now tested this remedy on and off for a year and can confirm, it really works for dark circles.

My remedy is 5 drops of 12% food-grade hydrogen peroxide in a large glass of distilled water, taken twice a day. Within a few hours of taking it for the first time, I noticed the darkness under my eyes reduced by 50%. By the second day, about 80%.

Along with dark circles, I've noticed an immediate improvement in digestion and tons of energy.

If I stop drinking h2o2, the dark circles come back.

Iron, Vitamin C

iron supplement + vitamin c

I suffered with dark circles since my early twenties. I thought they were hereditary. They got worse after pregnancy. I started taking iron supplements because I found out I was severely anaemic. I would become breathless very quickly Within two weeks of taking the supplement, the dark circles and dark eyelids were gone. My skin was brighter. My dry skin was less severe. The palms of my hands became more softer as did the soles of my feet. My cracked heels healed very quickly without any other intervention from me.

Warning: Do not take high doses of iron. It can be very poisonous. High doses can also cause systemic candida which is very difficult to get rid of.

If you are anaemic then that may be the reason for your dark circles. My doctor prescibed 265mg ferrous sulphate to be taken three times a day. This was too much and made me ill and gave me systemic candida. My doctor poisoned me. It caused me terrible fluid retention.

Now I break the ferrous sulphate tablet into 4. Then I have 1/4 every five days or so. This is sufficient. I can't believe I suffered with dark circles for so long and would have to wear makeup everyday to hide them. Now I don't bother with makeup at all because my skin is so much clearer.

I have to agree with below posts about juicing, for about a month or two my wife and I were juicing apple, carrot, celery, ginger, parsley, and beets. Our parents commented it was the best we have ever looked. We felt great too. Makes sense because you are eating living food which feeds and detoxifies the body like nothing else. Your skin literally begins to glow with life. I need to get back to it.

Believe it or not I have had practically face lift results from juicing 1 to 3 times a day.! Can I get an amen?! I am 39 I have had bags under my eyes literally since I was 12. My husband and I have gone mainly vegan and we have begun juicing daily. I cannot believe the miraculous results with my eye bags. If I can find some before and after pictures. I will try to post some or send them to you. It absolutely was unintentional. I didn't realize it would be so dramatic in fact I've had to actually believe it or not get used to my face without bags. We have been typically juicing cabbage, celery, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers and ginger root. I would definitely try. I also was having a major problem with a red face that is now gone as well. I actually thought I had foundation on one day when it started clearing. I was trying to rub it off my face, lol. Also if you have any type of stomach problems which I was developing kiss them goodbye as long as you keep using cabbage! Good luck

At the age of 60, l have "young eyes and face" by drinking green drink every day. You can purchase any good greens powder and mix it or you can do what l do inexpensively. Take 1 cup real pineapple or orange juice in the blender. Add a handful of parsley. Puree and drink. It tastes like the juice. Amazing what it does in 30 min. Takes 5 years off your face. Feel free to add any edible greens to the mix when you have it. Radish tops, carrot tops, lambs quarters, sprouts, and if you need it, any healthy oils, 1 tblspoon. Do not use strong flavored greens like mustard or kale or turnip.

Anybody have a nutritional or topical remedy for those sunken hollowed under eyes that come around the age of 40?!

A week of veggie juicing to include items like dandelion greens, radishes, cucs, celery and parsley (as well as lemon juice) help clean out the liver which eliminate the dark circles.

Juice first thing in the AM and drink immediately on empty stomach.

I have been taking Black Strap Molasses now for three weeks. 2 tbsp a day In that short time frame, I have noticed an increase in energy, my monthly cycle wasn't the horrid painful nightmare it usually is, it was pain free, clot free, and psychosis free for the first time in my life. And the nasty dark circles under my eyes have all but vanished! And they were bad, I looked like I had two black eyes. I tried everything you can think of to get rid of those dark circles and NOTHING worked before now. I look five years younger! I'm amazed at the results I've seen so far and I've been telling everyone I know about this site.

Hi, I have bad circles around my eyes, and believe it or not I am a man. so I would like to know how you managed to diminish your dark circles.. p.s did the black strap molasses cure your dark circles???

In response to Melissa, in some cases dark circles can be caused by an iron deficiency. That would explain why the iron-rich BSM worked for you and nothing else did. I have been trying lots of other cures for my dark circles, Oil Pulling, Apple Cider Vinegar, and Virgin Coconut Oil among them. I also have RLS and cold hands and feet, so I started taking the BSM today and I hope it will work for me, too!

Oil Pulling

Omg do not oil pull!!! ..worst decision of my life soon as I started doing it..which was for 20 minutes..quite vigorously swishing around I caused two massive veins to pop out under my eye....stupidly instead of stopping straight away I continued for a week morning an night..this was because online they say oil pulling is good for veins and under eye circles..complete opposite for me! .IMO eyes became sunken..dark..veins popped out everywhere..I aged considerably..wrinkles make it had spun me into a massive depression..will never oil pull again..granted it was definitely also tinternists it's and pressure that I switched it around. l even caused red vines in my eyes to pop and my eyes to swell and change shape..didn't reverse myself..very scary..would take it bk in a heart beat

Now I'm using prickley pear serum and full of vit k..purchased amino acids to strengthen and rebuild build collagen.lgrade seed capsuls for vein health and antioxidant. And protein and veggies in diet..I also take broccoli powder as full of vit k..and apple cider vinegar...

But yes can't stress enough the dangers of oil pulling..will bring out veins under eye circle..make you giant..wrinkles...horrid not me

I just hope I can go bk to normal after a while

After I sent that last post I thought it couldn't get any worse and it did! ..end up being veins under my eyes were the least of my problems...I had very strange and extreme side effects from oil heart started to beat rapidly and I also suffered severe insomnia where at the worst stage I didn't sleep one wink for 3 nights in a the 4th nite I had to go to a night doctor and get him to give me a sleeping tablet prescription..something I thought I would never do. As I'm all into natural approaches...but just couldn't go a 4th nite without not sleeping..and I'm talking not even 10 mins! looked at me like I was a druggie...even though I had never taken any before.

I also suffered massive anxiety..irritability..had swallow in eye lids changing shape...very weird..losing a lot of weight..felt like I was going crazy..when I went to the doctor and did a blood test found out I had subclinical hyperthyroidism...something I didn't have a few months ago as I had a blood test something. That was only recent..and all my symtoms only started happening right after oil pulling...

I have since learnt that oil pulling stimulates thyroid hormone....and I think also the fact I was swishing it up and down my throat so intently (thyroid gland is in the throat)...I really activated my thyroid and it responded by making too much hormone...hence why I had all the classic symptoms of hyperthyroidism....insomnia ..weight loss..rapid heart beat..anxiousness....etc ...and this was all from oil pulling! , ....I believe coconut oil may be good for people with hypothroidism...where ppl make to little thyroid hormone........but people beware! ...just because something is natural doesn't mean it will be good for you..and can have some serious side effects! ...

After seeing my trusting acupuncturist and telling well as applying specific acupuncture points to help calm my thyroid..she gave me. Calming herbs which have helped considerably....I also avoid iodine..not good for this condition, , take magenisum powder at night to relax which helps a lot....a little bit of broccoli sprout powder to lower the hormone..and of courSe stay well away from oil pulling! ....

Would never have thought it would make me spiral out of control like it did..

I now use almond under my eyes and face ..or prickley pear..both have vitamin e and k..apply sunscreen everyday to protect my skin build up my skin from within I take a proline and lysein supplement every day with vit c and bioflavonoids drink...which is all meant to stimulate collagen production...and have a carrot and spinach juice every day..swallowed down with a tablespoon of olive oil and zinc tablet for they also help skin..and my skin has improved dramatically

Very important to eat lots of whole foods...fruits and veggies to build up antioxidant content in skin and make it plumper and. Firmer

I'm 33 and have always had very good skin which people have remarked on..but I had a very unsteady year and believe a combination of stress and making poor health choices (this includes oil pulling)and experimenting with wrong skincare products definately caused my skin to change for the first now I am de stressing by being positive and having lots of calming teas and herbs....and simplifying my was always so much better before I experimented on expensive and pointless products

Now I just use

sukin facial sensitive cleanser

zinc sunscreen

almond or prickly pear serum

napeleon mineral foundation..

that's pretty much it, ... and will just continue working on skin through good diet and healthy lifestyle approaches..and trying to get back to the basics.
