Thank you to all the posts about Milk of Magnesia for Bursitis. It works, and works quickly. Thank you to everyone who said this may be from a calcium/magnesium imbalance, ie., magnesium deficiency. In my case it definitely was.

I took one teaspoon of MOM every 8 hours, and it worked so well. I also tried taking magnesium supplements, (chelated form) but the MOM worked far better.

Try using DMSO with other topical remedies. DMSO helps penetrate and take whatever you are using deeper into the tissue.

6-8 drops of oregano essential oil mixed with a carrier oil such as or coconut, rub directly into effected area. This remedy worked so quickly, within 15-20 minutes. I was amazed. I later found many testimonies of oregano oil for arthritis, bursitis, fibromyalgia.

I used manganese to heal my bursitis. I took a mega dose every morning for two weeks and I no longer have any pain in my elbows or my knees. I'm going to continue to take it until the bottle is gone but I don't think I'll renew the bottle unless the bursitis comes back.

Hi, when I had a Bursitis in my shoulder to the point I couldn't lift my arm up and it stuck out to the side and the pain made me feel sick too. I spent mega buck's at the Chiropractor's and it still wasn't getting any better.

So I bought an Inversion table and hung upside down and gently stretched using my body weight without pulling or putting anymore pressure or damaging the shoulder. I just hung upside down and let gravity push it while allowing my arm to work its own way downward.

I did this after having a warm shower to relax the muscles first, then went to the Chiropractor an hour or two late. Success!! The first time I went after doing it once as she was able to manipulate my shoulder much easier and my neck which was locked with the muscle spasm.

I only went twice after I started doing the Inversion therapy and the inversion table sorted it out by itself completely. Before this, for months I was going twice a week, paying LOTS of money and getting nowhere.

The next time it started, I just used the table for a couple of times a day over a few days and job done!! Love Andrea xxxx

Hi Robert Henry,

Glad to hear you're out of the brace and on the road to recovery. Your back is bound to be sore with what you were put through with the chiropractor. Maybe give the Atlanta guys a call and see what they say, or give them time to think about it before you make the trip. What would knit those vertebrae back together solidly? Oxygen in the area seems like it could be a good choice. Boron? Best wishes!

HI U DEVA, , , , , , , , , , Experts tell you to use only 50 % DMSO above your waist. If I had your problem, I'd investigate Ozone. Spent 5 years messing with Allopathic doctors on my knee. One shot of Ozone and all has been good for the last 2 years. Out of my back brace after 2 months, but still have pain. Meditating on having my Atlanta Integrative folks see if Ozone with help in this case. A little nervous because a knee and a back are two different things.

Guess folks should not get old. That's not allowed at the VA. Their situation should not be too hard to understand. Doctors are like teachers. The " C " students just get a job where they can. Most times it's a "Govment" job.

I've read that it's not advisable to drink castor oil. It used to be recommended for internal use, but no longer. Just as a pack (as describe above). Also is helpful for eyes.

Dear Michele,

You are most welcome. I hope it helps a lot. Turmeric is also a great anti-inflammatory. I am amazed at how much it helps. 1 teaspoon twice a day, in milk. Or 4 capsules.

Let us know how it goes--I hope you can get back into your recliner soon!

Thankyou so much for the reply! I will give that a try for I have bursitis in my shoulder. The doctor gave me a infammatory and it has helped some, though still hurts. I can't sit in my lazy boy recliner..It hurts my arm to much. Appreciate again!

I had used for bursitis milk of magnesium. Take a teaspoon in the morning and one at night with a glass of water you will be fine in 24 hours. I had migratory bursitis and that's all I use.

Dear Michele,

The person who wrote the original post has not been around for a while. Here is a recipe for cayenne salve that you can try.

Cayenne Salve

½ cup oil (olive, coconut or a combination)

1 Tablespoon cayenne pepper powder

½ ounce beeswax

Mix the cayenne into the oil. To make an infusion of the oil, heat this in a double boiler for an hour or two. You can also just let the cayenne sit in the oil for a week, but that takes longer, obviously. Strain out the cayenne through a couple of layers of cheese cloth and discard the cayenne. Melt the beeswax into the oil. You can use your double boiler again. When the beeswax is melted, pour into jars or tins. If it ends up too hard, melt in a little bit more oil. If it is too soft, add a little more beeswax. You can add the contents of a few vitamin E capsules (Just cut them open and squeeze out the vitamin E) to help preserve it. It should stay good for about 6 months.

I would use extra virgin coconut oil (6 Tablespoons) and 2 Tablespoons castor oil, since both of those have healing properties. If the beeswax is difficult to get, you can skip that step and just have cayenne oil.

Let us know if this helps!

Okay, been away since Friday but can confirm that the following day I had the same dosage - 3 x 10ml totalling 30ml a day for two days and the pain was gone by Friday morning - 48 hours after first dose.

What has aggravated the situation is my young son - bless him - who likes nothing more than to pullme around when he doesn't like the plan! That and having to walk everywhere. But the pain has gone and I believe it's in large part down to MOM, despite the side effects.

Nice one Earth Clinic!

Hi one and all, very new here and already very glad I came.

I'm 40 years old and a keen cyclist. I recently started up running and basically overcooked it too soon...and after seeing the physio, he told me that I had inflammation of a bursa, or bursitis as I have come to know it.

The damage was caused on a 17km run the monday before last and I tried everything, ice, ibuprofen, rest, turmeric for its anti-inflammatory properties. Now, I'm not saying these didn't have any effect - the ice was soothing, the Ibuprofen killed the pain (I needed full dosage) and I have every faith in turmeric but the Milk of Magnesia - I believe - has done the trick. I started taking MOM yesterday morning - 1 x10ml which I repeated twice more so I had 30ml. This morning I had 10ml and another 10ml this afternoon and the improvement is significant. The pain is bearable - I've had no painkillers since 4pm yesterday and the affected area no longers hurts as much to the touch as it did yesterday...I'd say by about 50% at least.

This could be down to a variety of factors but there was no progress being made before I had MOM and whilst I'm not out of the woods yet I have every faith that I'm getting there.

One other problem in England - MOM is very hard to get hold of due to EU legislation which says it contains too much sulphate! Old stocks are all that is available and most of those are found In Boots the Chemist.

There are side effects, - the laxative (and diuretic) properties have well, flushed me out and I am having intermittent headaches which I think is down to dehydration.

Either way, I'll report back when I get more of an idea...

Years ago my dad had hip pain. He was a diesel mechanic and stood on his feet all day. He worked with an older man who told him, "The next time your wife goes to the store, have her to get you the smallest sweet potato she can find. Then stick it in you hip pocket. " My mom had me to search out a small potato and put in the basket. My dad did the pocket thing and he said he did get relief from his pain. A few weeks later he walked in the door from work and said, "Here, catch. " He tossed something at me and said, "What is that?" I caught it and looked closley at it. It didn't look like anything I had really seen before. I said, "A rock?" He said, "No, guess again. " I looked at some more and saw there were wrinkles in it, so I said, "A nut?" He said "No, give up?" I couldn't guess what it was and then he told me it was the sweet potato after being in his pocket for at least a month. That thing looked and felt like a river rock! My dad kept a sweet potato in his pocker for some time after that and after a while the pain in his hip disappeared AND he no longer had to go to the doctor to have his shoulder scraped with bursitis. Ted, care to speculate as to why this worked?

Apple Cider Vinegar, Blackstrap Molasses, Baking Soda

Bursitis and Heel Spurs: I started trying Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) & Blackstrap Molasses (BSM) (warm water, 1TB ACV + 1 ts BSM) and it was less than a week before my limping started getting better & hip stopped hurting 24/7. As usual I wasn't consistent and then I was also diagnosed with 2 heel spurs and after 2 weeks of that I got a gout attack in the other foot (2nd one in two years). I'm back on the ACV and the BSM + 1 ts of Baking Soda. I read that somewhere too. I do the ACV in the BS and let the foam die down, then add the BSM and then the very warm water. I actually am going to start doing one before bed too. I get up in the morning and do oil pulling first for 20-30 min, then the ACV/BSM, then a bit later I do 24 oz of water with lemon and ginger. I hope these details help. I wish when people post they'd just put how much and when they take what ever they take. Thanks to everyone for their sharing ;-)

Luanne, the clumps are a problem, and smoothie is your best bet. There are various brands of citrus pectin and the most expensive one does dissolve quicker... Just drop a scoop in a couple of ounces of warm water and let it sit for awhile. Then add it to your juice.

The formula is still working for me. Plus, I give it to my 12 1/2 year old dog and it has done wonders for her arthritis and hip dysplasia.

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

I have been down a rocky road recently, .. Spine issues and arthritis, .. Weeks before this I had a painful shoulder, .. In between appts I mentioned it to my doctor who advised me to do physical therapy. Bursitis, Tendinitis he told me and that I didnt want to get frozen shoulder. And I said no to physical therapy and he gave me exercises to do. Fine and well. But one day I woke up and felt like my arm was going to fall off. I think I actually did get frozen shoulder, .. I dont know. And I noticed my right upper side the affected shoulder area was in major pain and was starting to look deformed! I found this site and the MOM idea and I did 2 tblsp, .. At first when I went to the store I thought this was a heartburn medicine and then when I saw that it was a laxative!! I was like whoooooooooooooaaa because that is the least of my problems. And I took 2 tblsps. Was in the bathroom within a couple hours but I was moving my arm and shoulder around like crazy. It was like pain relief. Major. Next morning I felt a little weak and was also drinking gatorade.. But now I am waiting a day and will try maybe only 1 tblsp. tomorrow. I have to wonder what a person is depleting by useing Milk of Magnesia???? That stuff flushes you out major, . But I swear my arm feels atleast 50% or more better today. And what I couldnt move I can move today and now am hearing clicks in my shoulder. Which would have never been there if I couldnt move it at all lol. So I think it is good!

sounds like a good thing! Buttt, . As I told my friend about all this she mentioned her constipation issues and I told her from what I read magnese (magnesium?) in vitamin form at certain levels are laxative effect also and she said that explained her all of a sudden regularity. And she asked about my vitamins. And I had read that iron may effect that as that is what I found in my multi vitamin. so I wont take that anytime soon.

So all I am saying is for people like myself coming across this information, .. Please be careful. My unaffected arm was shaking this morning because it may have dehydrated me. So I dont know how people could take 2 tblsp of this stuff twice a day! I dont have that much stuff to evacuate to begin with lol. If anyone has any info on what to replenish besides gatorade, . Or what to eat while doing such a thing I would love to hear about it. When I looked up gatorade and MOM I got nothing but what one would do before having a colonoscopy! But I have to say thumbs up because I havent felt this good in months!!

I have no history of bursitis or anything like it, although I have a right shoulder ball and socket joint that has always been able to dislocate, so maybe some structural problems there.

Anyway, a couple months back I started practicing kung fu and qi gong more intensively than in the past (like 2 hours a day). Right shoulder started getting sore enough so I couldn't lie on it at night (turns out to be a standard sign of bursitis).

Finally one day it started getting really inflamed and the pain just getting worse. Worst pain I ever experienced for a solid week. Couldn't even move the arm. Excruciating. Aspirin helped the most among over-the-counter pills. Couldn't even wait the 4 hours between doses.

Anyway, accurately verified diagnosis as bursitis online and found this site. Got a bottle of apple cider vinegar and started taking a spoonful in water 3 times a day. Wasn't sure at first whether it was helping or my body was just following its natural course of healing.

After a few weeks, inflammation was down to maybe 25% of the original and I was doing light exercise again. Cut the vinegar treatment down to once a day and improvement seemed to stop. So, after a week I went back to 3 times again and improvement picked up again.

It's now 6 weeks since it all started and I'm able to sleep on the arm again, and am working out again, although much more carefully. I try to avoid exercises that rotate the arm in a 360 degree circle as this causes a "click" in the tendons that I think may be most responsible for irritating the area.

My bottom line is that I'm pretty sure the vinegar is doing something, so I'm going to continue it perhaps indefinitely.

For Bob from Olney MD. The ACV and molasses is no problem for me but how do you take the modified citrus pectin? I've had bursitis in both hips for well over a year now. I've had 3 injections in each side which provide good relief but only for a couple of weeks. I've been taking Naproxen daily just to take the edge off, but it doesn't take the pain away and I'm really sick of not sleeping because the pain wakes me up. I'm willing to try anything and I came upon this website when I was searching for home remedies for bursitis. I've already bought the citrus pectin but the texture is very off putting. I've tried mixing it in orange juice... That was disgusting because there lots of clumps of the pectin. I saw on another website that someone said to mix it into applesauce. That was a little better but it took so long to smash all of the clumps against the side of the bowl that I ended up still having quite a few of them when I ate the applesauce. Today I put the pectin into the blender with my smoothie and that works the best... It had a weird taste but no lumps and that was definitely the best option so far. I don't make smoothies every day though so I'm hoping to find another way to take it without the awful clumps. Any suggestions you might have would be appreciated!

Am in my 20s & had knee pain a few months back & had much trouble folding my knees, especially while taking the stairs or folding the joints.

After an X-ray & Ultrasound my doctor said it was bursitis, might be due to some shock or trauma from falling down or sports, although I couldnot recollect any. Could have been just due wrong position I slept that might have twisted the tissues causing inflammation which was internal but apparently not visible externally but caused much trouble in my daily life & I panicked a lot. Although 2 weeks of medication : VIMOVO seemed to have controlled it still, I felt the pain during walking & other activites. Also standing for sometime like cooking kind of aggravated it.

I didnt want to depend on medicine as I did a bit of research and found that the medicine is quiet strong & not good for intestine as well.

So I came to earthclinic & found people talking about it. Many suggested Apple Cider Vinegar as a cure. So I thought lets try it the natural way. I ordered ACV (Bragg or Filsinger both are equally good) and blackstrap molasses.

From then I mix 2 Tablespoon of ACV & 1 Tspoon of molass in a glass of lukewarm water & drink it first thing in the morning around half an hr before before having any breakfast. I noticed my pain gradually went away which had not completely disappeared even with strong dose of Vimovo.

Also it seems to have given me immunity to cold, coz Canadian Winter is chilly & temp is below -10 many a times, and I came to Canada recently on business for a year, not much used to winter.

Also mix honey with ACV if I run out of blackstrap molass, seems to be good.

So thanks to every one who is discussing their experiences in earth clinic, and I hope mine also helps some one too.

Castor Oil
Posted by Lisa (Thousand Oaks, Ca, Usa) on 11/05/2012

Hi Lance, Castor oil packs are easy to make. You need to get yourself some wool flannel which can be found at most health food stores. (They give you a substantial amount. ) And get some castor oil. This can be messy so you'll want to use a bowl or a glass container big enough to hold the flannel wool. Cut enough to cover the body part you are using it for and fold it into a square. Then you want to saturate it with the castor oil but it doesn't need to be dripping.

What I do is then put my pack on and cover it with plastic so it doesn't stain my clothes. Castor oil does stain so make sure you wear clothing that would be okay if that does happen. Then, I put a heating pad over it. You should have it on for at least 45 minutes for it to be effective. When you're done you can store it in a plastic bag and keep it in a cool place or in the refrigerator.

Hopefully, I've made these instructions clear enough for you. Wishing you the best, Lisa

Swiss Cheese, Beer
Posted by Dominick (Somers, New York) on 10/04/2012

Back in the early 70's when I was in my forties, I was recuperating from shoulder bursitis (had been given oral cortisone), but still had slight pain. One afternoon, I had a swiss cheese sandwich (on white bread) with a glass of beer, and suddenly noticed my pain was completely gone and never returned. A doctor friend said he had heard of this happening before. The cheese was probably domestic, and the beer was canned (maybe Piel's "Real Draft" brand). Don't know why this worked, but some chemist may find some good use in this experience.

Sound like I have the same exact thing! I went to a sport medicine clinic and their pre-diagnosis was bursitis, but still waiting for X-rays results. Anyway my description is identical to yours. I tried the massages, but like you've said, its temporary relief and the pain has spread. I'm going to start the ACV with molasses today & perhaps a pineapple, ginger, turmeric juice mix. Also, I'm going to take some liquid magnesium as well. All of these treatments have been list on this site. I'll let you know how it goes :)
