Natural Remedies to Deep Vein Thrombosis (Blood Clots)

Alkalizing Remedies
Posted by Vicki (Wofford Heights, Ca) on 07/22/2013

My husband had a massive pulmonary embolism on 10-30-12. When the radiologist broke up the clots he inserted a vena cava filter to keep clots from his legs from going to his lungs. By 1-7-13 the filter had completely clogged with clots, and my husband's legs were swollen twice normal size and in terrible pain. He was told to go home, take his coumadin and keep his legs elevated. He is now swollen from his waist to his toes. The large veins that transfer blood from the legs to the body are completely occluded and destroyed. The smaller veins are starting to take up the flow, but not very effectively. Could he get any relief from the pain and swelling from the lemon/soda/water remedy?

A quick google search on vena cava filters shows issues with complications and questionable benefit, especially long term. Can you discuss the possibility of removing it with his doctor? Definitely talk to the doctor about your concerns with the swelling.

Hi Vicki, I am aware that what I am going to say sounds counter productive to blood clots in legs.... But please, do a web search on "inclined bed therapy" re circulation. There is also a YouTube video demonstrating the effect on veins and circulation by Andrew Fletcher. It is very simple.... You raise the head of your bed by 6" to 7" and it improves circulation. I can't explain it as well as some of the info on the web does, but it does work!

Also look into the supplements IP-6 and Serrapeptase.

Additionally, I would web search the terms "natural blood thinning" and see what comes up.

It is probably for the best that your husband had that filter put in, or those clots might have really damaged him... But if you can figure out why he is prone to them, and stop them.... You will be golden! Best wishes!

My partner has deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in both legs and restricted flow in the aorta below the the renal artery. Doctors want to do an invasive procedure of graphing in a new aorta with branches to be attache in both legs below the blockages. We are not wanting this proceedure. The left leg DVT has been there for more than 10 years with 2 pulmonary embolisms and since then only an occasional flair up. 2 years ago due to a physical injury a blood clot formed in the right leg. Emergency surgery was on the table, but the thrombosis specialist stopped in as it was discovered there was a clot just outside the vena cava and not being stabilized it could move during surgery. He has been on daily self-injections of Fragmin for the last 40 months. Couple of questions. Should he stop the Fragmin if he starts any of the remedies I have read... Cayenne & Garlic... Nattokinase... Honey Cayenne Vinegar... Lemon & Baking soda water. Also, has anyone heard of a STRONG tea of Sassafras - 1time - should be dark orange in colour strong.... And whether it has any effect. Supposed to clean out the pipes of plaque and clots. Haven't tried it yet. Told to stop Fragmin for that day because too much thiner. That is why I am asking if Fragmin should be stopped when trying these others.

Hello. Last year, I was informed that I had DVT in my leg. At the time of initial diagnosis, I was given a shot and told to take shots of Arixtra for a few weeks. Thereafter, I was told to take coumadin as well until a 3 or 6 month time period to ensure that the clot is no longer a troublesome issue as far as the danger of traveling to my lungs. Hopefully, this helps you understand that it is normal treatment. Hope all is well with your family.

My husband has been on Coumadin a very long time due to 4 blood clots from Factor 5 Lieden propensity for clotting.

Help! My husband has a blood clot in his jugular vein at the base of his brain. he has been suffering with severe headaches for 4 months now. He was on Heperin and now warfarin to 'thin" his blood but the clot is not dissolving. The medical doctors are not offering any solution except more pain medication! He is tired of living like this. We are very afraid of any invasive procedure that might force the clot elsewhere.

Would Cayenne or garlic help this clot dissolve?

Thanks so much!

Hi Bibi - Dud from WV mentioned that taking serrapeptase may help dissolve clots (along with other suggestions in his September 23/11 post).

Here's an excerpt about this enzyme: Serrapeptase is a proteolytic enzyme - it breaks down protein. This means it is able to act on pathogenic (disease causing) tissue, such as blood clots, cysts, arterial plaque and the substances produced naturally by the body as part of its inflammatory response.

Do an Internet search (blood clots serrapeptase) for more information. It sounds promising. Good luck to you and your husband! Bess

If the lemon/soda remedy doesn't work try the herb horse chestnut. I suppose that it can be called an herb. I've seen it work many times on deep vein problems. Start with two tablets daily and increase to four if needed. My mother had very serious leg problems, possibly from her MS condition and if the flare up was pain in the vein area, like inflamation, the horse chestnut worked every time... Without exception. I mentioned this to an attendant at my health food store and she responded that many of her customers have great success using it.

For general pain in the legs that might be related to MS causes, I found Calcium AEP was very effective. Dr Adkins used that in his protocol for his MS patients fed into them by an IV. Reading all the amazing things that Cal AEP (not just calcium... it must be the AEP) does, I take two capsules daily.

Ted Remedies, perhaps natural cures would be more accepted if they didn't say things like half to whole lemon/lime, baking soda until fizzing stops, and add water to half a glass. Ted, how big is this glass 300ml, 8oz, 950ml, 32oz.? Then you start talking about millivolts? I guess I am supposed to be a psychic and a scientist.

I want to try the lemon-bicarbonate remedy for blood clots in my feet. I also have varicose veins. But I didn't see the exact amount of bicarbinate to use with the juice of a whole lemon. I did try the juice of one lemon and about 3/4 tsp.baking soda then I filled the glass half full of water. I did not taste the lemon juice but it was the same as drinking soda water, salty. It was supposed to taste like water so I must have put too much soda. Could you please send me the exact measurements. My half glass of combined liquid was probably about 6 oz. Also my doctor advised me to stay away from salt as my blood pressure is too high. Will using soda that is high in sodium increase my blood pressure? I cannot take the blood thinners as I have a bad reaction to them. Thank you for your help. Sincerely, Charlene.

Baking soda should be mixed until it will not dissolve anymore. There is really not an exact recipe. You can say 1/2 teaspoon or or 1 even but depends on the size of lemon and if you dilute it, etc. So add it until the liquid will not dissolve anymore.

Posted by Lemarque (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) on 01/22/2011

Hi Jarret, I would strongly suggest that you go to your doctor and get this problem looked at ASAP. You describe the "clot" as "passing", but it is very unusual for this to occur. Circulating clots will almost always lodge in the lungs (PE) before they reach the heart. Clots in the coronary arteries means heart attack 100% of the time - no exceptions.

However from the symptoms you describe it is more likely going to be coronary artery sclerosis or angina. The extent of this condition needs to be assessed as it seems you are already getting warning signs. It is always better to get these things checked, if there is a serious underlying problem, get the issue addressed and then return to natural health approaches as a preventative measure for the future. If the tests show nothing is wrong with your heart, then that is the best outcome and you can then direct your attention to finding a way to treat the condition not just the symptoms. I truly hope you take heed of this advice.

Posted by John (Bridgeton, New Jersey) on 06/17/2011

Lemarque is absolutely correct. I am 43 and just got released from the hospital with my 4th MI (Heart attack) in 2 years. In that time I have suffered DVT's, PE's and ultimately the MI's. I have a severe lotting issue that to dat, has only been managed through a host of medications. If I miss 4 days (seems to be the magic number), I am destined for another MI. I have been given two additional medications to control the sickness the other ones cause, so as of today I am taking 9 pills a day. Clots are NOTHING to play around with. I must be the luckiest guy in the world to survive so many MI's in such a short period, but even I know how soon that could end.

Personally I would love to explore the possibility of organic treatment, but having gone through what I have gone through, I wouldn't dare do anything without the direct guidance of my doctors at this point. The consequences are far too extreme!

I would love to hear some thoughts on organic alternatives since I am now retired from my law enforcement career and have all the time in the world to do some research! :-)

A few years ago a study showed that WalMart's brand of supplements did not contain the ingredients listed.😡 So we stopped buying them! I also take ginger capsules. I started taking 2 Solaray Cool Cayenne capsules daily. I developed a blood clot in my left leg near the end of January, 2022 possibly from shedding from a vaxed male. I did not have this problem before nor did my family. My age seems the only possible factor. I take it after a meal. I am also taking Doctor's Best Nattokinase (from soybeans), Bromelain (from pineapple), Serrapetase (from silk worms), Lumbrokinase (from earth worms), and Swanson Turmeric capsules. (These latter taken together on an empty tummy.) A recent ultrasound shows that the clot is the same, not better or worse.???) The only pain I get is from the ankle area where skin is shed. Swanson Omega 3,6,9 (Flax, Borage, Fish) gels relieves it. Pfizer has promised blood clots from shedding from the vaxed victims. In light of this I believe that everyone should now take the Nattokinase to prevent blood clots. Also Swanson Vitamins' NAC (Cysteine, an amino acid) 600 mg. capsules that may have prevented me from getting flu and any Coronavirus since 2009 even though exposed. Child: 1/Day Adult: 2/Day I take one in a.m. one before sleep. It helps the whole body for about $10.00 a bottle! I post publicly and freely on MeWe.

I recently developed a blood clot after superficial vein surgery. I had not had blood clots prior. After two weeks of Lovenox shots, the MRI showed the blood clot had gone. I do not have DVT. However, I will be flying to Europe (7.1/2 to 8 hour trip late August/early September). I told my doctor and he has given me two shots of Lovenox to take, one prior to flight and one after. Therefore, this must indicate there is a risk.

In the meantime, I am anxious that I not have another blood clot. The natural remedies posted here for apple cider vinegar, cayenne pepper, and molasses should great. Do I select one of these, or take all three daily? I don't want to overdo it. Which one is the best? I still intend to take the two shots of Lovenox as prescribed later on. Also, does anyone have an idea of the risk involved in flying after vein surgery. Is it better to wait at least 3 months or later. I had the surgery on June 25 and plan to fly early Sept. I could leave it until a bit later but would that make any difference. I do have support hose to wear and know that I do need to walk around about every hour and do ankle exercises.

I just got out of the hospital having had a TAVR procedure (replacement of my aortic valve) The doctor has prescribed "Plavix" with a baby aspirin" for six whole months and the asperin for life! Would Natokkinase work in place of these two? Plavix is a blood thinner as well as the baby asperin.

Second, I also have been taking vit D-3, a quality fish oil capsule (this for 3 x perday) I eat a lot of Kale in my organic salad, take garlic capsules (one) at night before bed. I also take magnesium supplements daily. Is all this too much for blood thinning. If I take the Nattokinase would that be sufficient? However, I have been taking the vit D-3 vit a, vit c, querceitn and zinc for my Covid prevention.

Must I stop the vitamin D? I just want to be safe in what I am doing. Can you or someone advise me?

Please ask the doctor if your husband is a candidate for a trapeze vena cava filter to keep any and all future blood clots from traveling from the inferior vena cava, through the right side of the heart, and then possibly into one of the lungs. Please make sure you specify a trapeze filter, not one of the others which have been strenuously recalled over the last couple of years. This procedure at the hospital usually takes less than twenty minutes and is a good safety net for moving blood clots in the venous system from the legs to the inferior vena cava in the chest before interring the right side of the heart.

I have a 76 year old relative who developed a blood clot in her leg after she took a long airplane flight (13 hours) and within 3 months off cartilage repair surgery on her knee. She was treated w/shots and then given coumadin. She has her blood tested every 2 weeks. Three months later, the clot is no longer in her leg, yet she has been told that she must continue on the coumadin therapy until she has been on it for 6 months to a year. The rationale is that the clot could have broken up leaving smaller clots that are still traveling in her body. The longer therapy apparently guarantees the break down of the smaller clots. I don't trust western medicine so I'm checking in here to see if anyone has an opinion.

I have a friend, who had knee replacement surgery.

Right now the knee is getting better, but she has a severe complication. She developed blood clots and when her knee was accidentally dropped it pushed one of the blood clots to her left shoulder.

The doctors have told her that if the blood clot moves again, it will go directly to her brain and she would die instantly.

She is being medicated up the wazoo. One of the medications, I know she is taking is warfarin. The doctors say that it is a blood thinner, but will not affect the already formed clots.

Would Baking Soda and Lime/Lemon treatment affect the medicine she is taking?

I understand that Grapefruit can be a Deadly Poison when mixed with some drugs.

My 2nd question is, how long should she take the Baking Soda & Lime/Lemon treatment to make this deadly blood clot go away?

I have varicose veins. My veins on right foot under my inner ankle are kind of purple. A few months ago my right foot got swollen. At the beginning it was just around that inner ankle but then it went around my foot. That time even my blood pressure was higher around 140/80. I was started taking apple cider vinegar each morning and going for walks. This helped. But then I stopped taking care of myself (busy with office work and I'm a wife and mom of 4 kids). It did not get worse than were it started. Recently I had been taking baking soda and lemon juice in warm water every morning for about 2 weeks straight and doing some walking every day. I felt and saw the difference in my veins on my foot and varicose veins on the upper right leg. My blood pressure got lower 95-110/67-75. But I started feeling dizzy. When I turn in my bed it takes a while until my head adjust to different position. Or even when I'm up it happens. When I stopped taking the lemon juice & baking soda solution, my head spins a lot less. I have not experienced it for years. Can anyone explain to me why it happens? I would like to continue taking it. Is it safe for me? THANKS!

I would be interested in knowing how cayenne is used. Is it the pepper itself or is it used in the powder form that you can buy as a spice? Is it mixed with food or water. Is there a certain way to use it to address one ailment over another? I have pain on the inside of my leg that seems to be slowly moving upward that I suspect is a clot. I don't know but it has been moving up my left leg for a very long time and is now in the thigh area. I work from home and sit most of the time with my right ankle crossed over my left leg at the knee. Thank you!

Blackstrap Molassas is very high in iron. It is the iron that is very good for you. In fact, as to my knowledge, molassas has the highest content of iron in any food. It is in liquid form and therefore gets absorbed well into your system. Taking iron pills can be harmful since only a small amount of it gets absorbed into your system and therefore most of it is flushed out thru your intestinal tract where it can create problems. I have heard that fibroids tend to collect iron and can make you anemic. I was told this by a friend that had large fibroids and this was what she was told by her docter. The doctors gave her iron pills and since they did not work, she got so anemic they did a total hysterectomy on her to get rid of the fibroids. She told me all of this after the surgery. I wish she would have let me know before she had the surgery. I am not quite sure how the iron helps since the doctor said that the fibroids collect the iron. Although, I had a large fibroid several years ago that caused to stay bloated for months. I started taking molassas every day for several weeks and all of the symptoms dissappeared and never came back. I do not know if the fibroid still exists at all since I did not have another sonagram done to check. The only thing I would suggest is not to take more than a tablespoon a day, because the molasses contains a lot of iron and too much iron a day will cause consipation if your body is getting more than it can use at one time.
