Natural Cures for Bartholin Cyst

Goldenseal and Castor Oil

I apply a salve of powdered goldenseal from a capsule or two and castor oil to a swollen bartholin cyst. You can also use evening primrose oil as it is also anti-inflammatory or olive oil. You put it on some toilet tissue which has been folded over or some of those square or rounded cotton squares. I just use toilet paper now. It should be a little runny but not so it will run off of the tissue, meaning you do not want a dry salve, nor a runny one. Something in between. The oil carries it into the skin underneath. Apply it to the swollen gland and then put on a pair of old panties that you don't care about to hold it in place, since goldenseal stains. Then I apply a heated rice bag as the heat hurries the process along, but I have done this also without the heat when I have been away from home.

Overnight this will kill the infection and relieve your pain. I would always use two capsules on one that is inflamed and hurting. It has hurt on occasion, but not swollen and when I can feel it, I apply it at night.

A low grade infection can give one insomnia, which it does for me if I don't treat it when my gland is telling me that it isn't happy. After you kill the infection, it will eventually drain.

I heard about using Tea Tree oil and at this point I'm willing to try ANYTHING to keep me from getting cut (down there) again. I'm at my wit's end with this thing.

I had my cyst drained about 10 days ago and I wish I had just done it right away. The surgical drainage brought me instant relief and it turns out mine was very abscessed, which is nothing to mess around with.

Going back, my problem started on vacation. I had no idea what was wrong, but didn't want to see an island dr., so I toughed it out. The day after I got home I went in and was diagnosed. My Dr.offered to drain it at that time, but I wanted to try natural remedies first.

After almost a week of sitz baths, with and without Epsom salts, the swelling was going down a little. The area of swelling had gone down to the size of a largish cherry tomato. But I decided to up the ante with Serrapeptase and Cypress oil. I don't know for sure that they triggered anything, but the problem got much much worse--worse than it had been at the beginning. By the end of the 2nd week, I had swelling that extended all the way to the crease of my leg. The area of swelling was at least the size of an egg. It hurt to walk, sit, and lay down. So I called my doctor and had to wait another week to get in. I'm not exaggerating when I say it was excruciating.

I should mentioned that I talked to an OB-GYN of acquaintance and asked what SHE would do it if were her and her body. She said she'd get the procedure because the relief would be instantaneous. I also called another Dr.I see, who has more of an integrated / holistic approach to medical care. HE supported the surgical drainage. I was convinced--plus I couldn't take the pain anymore.

By the time I saw my dr., I was tired of being in pain and quite crabby. The procedure took 20 min. at most. She gathered the instruments, disinfected the area, numbed me up, and made a small incision. She did not put in the catheter; she holds that back for recurrence. The worst was that she had to push on it to try to get the yucky stuff out, because it turns out it was very abscessed. (That hurt like heck.) I hadn't run a fever and the area didn't feel hot, so I was surprised by the infection.

I was prescribed antibiotics, and she suggested continuing the sitz baths to encourage further drainage. It's too early to comment on recurrence, but my suggestion is that if you have insurance and a Dr.you trust, just get it drained. Save yourself a lot of time and discomfort. Plus, you could have an infection and not know it.

So no marsupialization or catheter? I had mine for 3 weeks, the last being excruciating. Was on vacation and finally desperately on the drive back, asked my boyfriend if we could stop at the ER. The pain was passout pain, and the only relief could be found lying down. I assume because it takes the pressure off. Anyhow, the doc finally set me up, applied lydocain (sp?) and started the procedure. I've never screamed so much in my life! The relief was totally worth it. I assume the duct must be so blocked (maybe with scar tissue) that there was no chance for it to drain. I'd been taking the baths for 8 days. It may be that I didn't start the baths until week 3, however.

Anyhow, he attempted to insert the catheter, but too much had drained, and he couldn't get it to drain. Thank goodness...it hurt so much. But NOW he wanted me to go to a gyno to get the marsupialuzation, which I really prefer not to do! I have a rather large incision (done on Sunday, it is now Tuesday). I'd just like a little advice prior to the doc recommending what the book tells them. I generally take no drugs or antibiotics. But in this case, am taking the antibiotics and Motrin.

So sorry for all enduring. This is such an unpleasant experience...

Epsom Salt
Posted by Carrie (Toronto) on 05/13/2017

Hey, I'm going to try the epson salt soak today but I was wondering how large are yours getting. When I saw the gynaecologist she that that are too small to even put a stent in because mine tend for develop deeper into the vaginal area and apparently don't get large enough to easily do that procedure.

The worst part is that they develop for every reason... after sex, even if I just get a little aroused, and they stay for over extended periods of time. I've had them for 3 weeks.

They never develop into an abscess but a part of the cyst is starting to get denser now that I've had it for an extended period of time. Usually massaging it under warm water helps it go away but not lately. I get them at least once a week. The pain in unbearable and I'm at my whits end.

I used a silica supplement which contained 5g horsetail, zinc, B6 and manganese to treat my recurring bartholin cysts. Dosage varied between 1-2 capsules per day and saw results within 5 days. It saved me from having the marsupilization procedure. Extremely happy to find a natural alternative :)

I had a Bartholins cyst at age 18. I could tell when it was going to burst because it would start throbbing and become very painful. The thing about those is that they will continue coming back unless you have it lanced. I had my lanced at 19 and I am now 39. Get it lanced, it will be the best thing for you. Its a very simple and quick procedure. You will feel much better afterwards. TRUST ME!

I had an upper respiratory infection and used antibiotics to treat, which caused a yeast infection. I noticed the cyst during my treatment of the yeast infection. The cyst itself isn't painful, but it has gotten larger and more uncomfortable. This is the first I've ever heard of Castor Oil packs? What materials do you need to make them? Can you buy them? How do you apply it? This is new to me, but I don't ever want to have to deal with it again...please HELP!

Vitamin D3, Colloidal Silver

That sounds awful! I would definitely sue that dr btw - totally not okay.

1. frequent epsom salt sitz baths 3-4 times a day for 15 min

2. witch hazel compress on gauze, can add tee tree

3. Iodine topically to keep clean and help keep from getting infected (if it's not already)

4. Take iodine daily along with Vit C, D and zinc

5. colloidal silver - 10 drops under tongue

best of luck!

Jessi,

Try using a mild soap with no additives or perfumes such as Dr. Bronner's Baby Mild Bar Soap. Also re-wash all towels, sheets, wash cloths and underwear in Seventh Generation Baby detergent with an extra rinse cycle. No fabric softener or dryer sheets. Also change your toilet paper to a chlorine-free variety like Seventh Generation. Avoid chlorine bleach in your wash and cleaning your toilets or chemical toilet cleaners. Use vinegar and Bon Ami cleanser or baking soda to clean the toilet. Irritants can cause the glands to swell shut, the cyst and infection to form.

Serrapeptase

I took serrapeptase and silica, along with applying PRID all day after urinating and doing 1-2 forty five minute sitz baths with 2 cups Epsom salts. The cyst started as a sore grape and I began the above listed treatment schedule. It kept growing for DAYS and blew up to a swollen golf ball blocking my vaginal canal completely by day 7. The pain peaked on day 10 and I was taking ibuprofen and acetaminophen together to knock the pain down to manageable. After dinner on day 10 I noticed blood after urinating, I hopped into a third sitz bath for the day and gently massaged the lump while holding a small hand mirror to see where the leak was coming from. I was surprised to see the gland opening was on the inner side of the lump and had been pressed closed against the opposite side of my vaginal canal. I fully shifted the lump to the side and the contents of the cyst poured out into the hot water. I think doing this in a hot bath really helped clear it. The release of pain was amazing and I was so relieved. I read another gal on here saying you should get the fluids flowing to keep it from clogging again, so I masterbated with clitoral stimulation only for 10 minutes. The gland filled up with fluid and I drew another bath to gently massage it out again. I cleaned up and dabbed on some antibiotic ointment and am currently wearing a pad to catch any drainage. I didn't have a fever, and the lump never got hot (an indicator of serious infection), so I just toughed it out. I didn't go to the doctor because we are in Covid19 lockdown and I was terrified of bringing the illness back to my young children and husband. THANK THE MAKER IT DRAINED!!! Thank you so much for everyone's advice on here!!!!

Alum

Alum for Bartholin's gland Cyst.

I get mucocele's in my mouth sometimes and found the alum cure here on this website. It works every time, and the mucocele goes away within a week. (a mucocele is a blocked saliva duct on the inside of your lip). So, when I got a bartholin's gland cyst, I thought it was pretty similar to a mucocele: blocked duct, similar environment of the body). So I tried the alum on the bartholin's gland cyst, and sure enough it healed it. I put the alum directly on the cyst for about 15 minutes every night. Then rinsed it off, making sure not to get the alum anywhere else.

After about a week, the cyst was about 80% gone, and I stopped using it, and now a month or so later, it is completely gone. Hope this can help someone else.

Epsom salt and bartholin cyst no good:

I've had an bartholin cyst at least 3 times. It used to go away with a simple bath 2 out of 3 of the times. I've gotton it drained ...most painful thing I've ever experienced. I'd rather go through childbirth lol ...I believe that my laundry detergent on my underwear are the cause the tightness and also the dyes. Anyway, I just got an incision maybe a month ago.

I am also pregnant I've tried regular baths ..no results! I then tried Epson salt baths that made it worse. it actually built up the puss in my cyst which were making my labia harder on the left side the doctor actually told me this. Now a month & some change later here I am again. I can barely walk & Tylenol is barely working ..I will try tea tree oil tomorrow & see how it works...wish me luck I am 35 weeks pregnant and can't bare another shot of lidocaine (how ever u spell it) going into my stuff ...wish me luck.

I have two Bartholin cysts which are now starting to become painful. But my gynaecologist doesn't want to operate on them as I suffer with Vulvodynia & the cysts are right where I get the burning pain from that, so he is worried if he operates & removes them that it will make the Vulvodynia worse. Can anyone suggest the best thing I can use to try & make them burst keeping in mind that I can't use anything that will make the burning worse.

Hi lovelies. I'm also suffering from this - I had a giant, painful infected Bartholin's cyst that needed to be lanced twice, plus 3 rounds of antibiotics, sitz and soaks, about 4 months ago.

Since then, it's been very small - about the size of a grape if you push in to find it, but nearly flat on the surface - and stayed that way, but about every other day or so it swells a bit and is slightly sore...and then drains some blood and pus.

It's literally been open and draining like that for 3 months - occasionally, it's bright red blood and more than usual.

Has anyone else experienced continual draining? Could my taking daily homeopathic silica be affecting it in that way? I still do a hot compress for about an hour every night, and some witch hazel and tea tree compresses, which seems to keep it from getting any worse.

Stay strong, ladies. We can do this.

I'm having my 4th bartholin cyst now after my 3rd one last year. When I thought it wouldn't come back, it really greeted me for new year! I soaked myself in sitz bath and sat down on a small pale of hot water, I use the steam. But then it grew in size during the process. After that I read about baking soda and salt and turmeric.. I put the mixture and just left it there last night. Earlier in the morning I see a burnt or thinning of the area where I left the cotton pad on. Is it normal?

Hey! I'm 34 and a wee ago I noticed a bult next to my vagina, I thought it was a lymph node but reading online it was a Bartholin gland cyst. tw days was small third day was huge, as big seed (you can see the swollen labia) got red but no pain at all, and barely bother me, read that can get infected so I started taking antibiotics inmediatly (i had a box of ab so I used those), I got scared and washed with warm water for 10 min, 4 times a day. Nothing happened, the same. Until I got here and I read about the vinager, so at night I washed the zone, got a cotton pad soked in vinager and put it on top on the swollen zone (i did not put the cotton pad inside my vagina, only outside) it was soaked so the vinager was going in anyway, and my underwear also got all vinager wet.

Next day I washed everything out and changed underwear, my bult was the same and it bothered me a bit, maybe itchy, but during the day with the movement suddenly I felt my underwear wet, and when I checked it did burst, mostly liquid and a bit a blood, no infection, has passed like 3 hours and is half of the size, im not pressing it, just letting itself take out the liquid and washing frequently, I'l keep taking antibiotics for a couple of days just in case. I'm hoping it goes all out, other wise next week ill go to the doctor. Apple vinegar was my miracle solution :)

A little pain for the first 3 pr 4 days. But the size is still the same. I did not go to see my doctor coz I saw here about bartholin cyst and maybe give home remedy a try. I tried onion last night and felt no, pain anymore in the morning but the size is still the same I think. And tonight I tried the apple cider vinegar placed in a cotton ball and mix with a little fresh turmeric and honey.. I hope and pray that tomorrow the size will get smaller or burst..ive been having sleepless nights already thinking about this. Ive been so stressed lately ..will update all of you..

So, I just recently had my first abscess and I had no idea about anything so I had them put the catheter in :(

Would you advise that I should take the supplement additionally with my antibiotics? The way I see it is the duct is obstructed right? so by them opening it up and letting it leak out only means that I am clearing it up and not clearing up the base problem. I don't want to be like this for 2 weeks. The doctor referred me to a marsupialization specialist and I don't know if that is better for me at this point or if I should just stick to this balloon that is slowly ripping itself out of my body.

Have found all the blogs here very useful. The last time I had one, in November, I took the colloidal silver, iodine, vitamin D and rubber clove oil. It was at the final moment of excruciating pain. A few hours later it popped and I was dumb founded. I now have another one, this time became bigger in the space of a couple of days. Prevention is in your diet. Remove all processed foods, canned foods, fermemted, picked, pasteurized, plastic packaging. All mold must be removed all fungus must be removed from the diet. Basically it's gluten-free sugar-free and yeast free. No bread no cheese no pasta. No pork of any kind. No lunch meat - no leftovers that set out at all. I know it sounds harsh but It can save your life from the misery of the cysts.

Antibiotics are known to cause yeast infections.. Then you'll probably have to go on another round of antibiotics to get rid of the yeast infection if over the counter meds don't help. It's like an endless cycle. A cyst probably formed because of the yeast infection; somehow a blockage happened and fluid backed up.

"The Bartholin's gland is a tiny organ on each of the labia (vaginal lips), near the opening of the vagina. If the vagina were the face of a clock, these glands would be found at about 4 and 8 o'clock. Normally they are invisible. They make a small amount of fluid that lubricates the vaginal lips. If a flap of skin grows over the opening of one of the glands, the fluid backs up. It causes a round swelling called a cyst. The cyst can grow from the size of a penny to larger than an orange, although most don't get bigger than a golf ball. Cysts can be tender and hot to the touch."

I had similar incidences of this before but usually after a few days and some "set" baths it would clear up. Not so this time. When I was 7 months along Doctors did surgery to remove a golf ball piece of infection. A few months later when a similar incident happened. I was desparate to find something to clear this up. I tried everything I could think of. Finally I discovered zinc oxide ointment, which is the active white ingredient zinc diper rash ointments. Over the years I have cured many of these that could of gotten worse that the one I had surgery on. Having had that surgery left an area of scar tissue that is even more sensitive than before. I have never met a doctor that had any idea of how to treat these and I can't believe I am the only women to have this experence. Apply to the affected area when you go to bed.

Frequently it will be cleared up in the morning. The zine oxide stains everything though. The zinc needs to be applied liberally to the sore spot, keeping it completely covered. Then wear an under garment that you dont like, that isn't tight. I was twenty eight when I discovered this remedy. I am now in my 50's. Straight zinc oxide is the best. The diaper rash crean is usually about 40 % zinc.

Dear Kay from Hastings: Thank you so much for this valuable information!!

Could you please possibly list what brands of "straight" zinc oxide ointment you have used successfully and what percentage of zinc oxide is stated in the active ingredient listing on these products. My newly married daughter has been suffering from a Bartholin Cyst for several months now. The doctor prescribed antibiotics in case the cause was an infection but it did not help. They also said hot baths twice a day, that has not helped her either. The only zinc oxide ointments I have been able to find online contain only 20% as the active ingredient, the rest is petroleum jelly and stuff. You stated the diaper rash ones contain usually 40% so you suggested using "straight" zinc oxide which I thought meant it should have a higher percentage than 40%. If there is one out there, I have not been able to find it yet. I may have misunderstood though, have I? Kay, I would greatly appreciate a list of zinc oxide ointments you feel comfortable recommending. If you would like to email me directly with that information, my email is [email protected]

Thank you! Nina in California

As far as I've found, 40% zinc oxide cream is the highest available without a prescription. I have a cyst problem too, and I've started applying Desitin at night. It's been a few days, and I'm not sure I notice a difference. But the cyst is the size of a golf ball, and so I'm hoping that it will shrink after a few more days.
