I was diagnosed with mild Hypothyroidism in May 2006, studied the benefits of VCO and started to use it shortly after. For the first 6 manths I experienced an increased energy and a better digestion. However this effect did not last. The oil did not have any effect on the funtion of my Thyroid and my general wellbeing. I am still using the VCO internally(every heated meal is prepared with it) and I also use it externally (on some parts of my body). I do this, because I am convinced by the benefits of this oil. However it does have not any dramatic effect, as testified by others. Since about one week I am having digestion problems and feel congested in my liver and spleen area. I am still on my Thyroid medication (50 mcg of Euthyrox). Does anyone have a similar experience that they seem not to benefit so much from the oil? I am of the blood type O and according to the bloodype diet I should avoid coconut and also the oil from it. Has anybody experiences with the effect of VCO on blood type O people?

I'm type 0 (Rh-) and I use coconut oil! However, lately I have stopped drinking it(1 tbsp in orange juice) only because I saw no difference (so why bother?) after 3 months (3 months is a deadline in my book). However if the supplement is very right for you, you should know immediately!). But I still use it on my skin and it really does wonders! My eyes are very sensitive and CO is the only thing I can use around eyes!

I remember my mom telling me never to heat coconut oil to cook with because something happens to it so I haven't, but we used coconut oil for our hair which made it thick, shiny and healthy. We used it on our skin in place of lotion, also as dressing for salad. After 30 years of no EVCO I am back on it again and I can't rave enough about it. But I don't cook anything in coconut oil, my mom knew best I suppose. I know it's not scientific but everything she taught me is right on the money so far.

In the Caribbean, Philippines and in other regions, coconut oil is prepared by squeezing milk from coconut and then the butter is separated. This butter is heated and melted into coconut oil.

In India, a coconut is broken and sun dried, then the white flesh (solid endosperm) is ground and the oil is extracted. The traditional oil milling machine is made of wood, similar to pestle and mortar. The pestle will be moved by Bull in a very slow motion. So heat is not generated much, this is similar to COLD PRESSED OILS.

This is what we used to cook and apply in skin and in hair too. And it has wonderful fragrance and taste. It is predominantly used in KERALA state of India, which I mentioned in another post.

Industrially produced coconut oil uses steel machinery, which produces heat when extracting the oil.

Coconut oil is the best oil to cook with actually. I'm not sure why that person's mom told them not to cook with it? I only use virgin coconut oil in my baking and frying. Other oils are not healthy or stable at high heats. I also use EVOO in dressings but not for cooking. Anyhow, coconut oil is awesome - for both external and internal uses. You can use it with confidence! :)

Most of South India (Kerala particularly) uses coconut oil. As (in effect) do people in Thailand, because to do a proper coconut-milk-based Central-Thai style curry you have to "crack" the coconut cream to release the oil and cook it for a while with the wet curry paste before doing anything else. No one there has any problem with cooking with coconut.

I cook both styles of food, and use coconut oil when I do. This sounds like bogus advice.

When coconut oil is heated to a certain temp, the "good stuff" is killed essentially. The same happens with many foods. That is why so many of you are probably not seeing much benefit. It can be used in WARM liquids to drink, but not HOT. (Same goes for honey for the record.) If you aren't buying COLD PRESSED oil then you will not see the same results. Of course you CAN cook with it--it won't hurt. But it won't really HELP you much medicinally either. Might as well use olive oil to cook with since it's typically much cheaper. I put a mixture of coconut oil, honey, and cinnamon in my tea once it has cooled down to a nice warm temp. I also use the same mixture in hot chocolate (once it has cooled to warm of course) along with protein powder. Very yummy.

When using ANYTHING as "medicine" be sure to read as much about it as you can!!! For example, as I've read on here elsewhere, the potassium iodide (I think that's right) in Lugol's iodine is counteracted by vitamin C when both are ingested within an hour or two of one another (so take your iodine supps at least an hour before/after having any vitamin C intake). Such info is crucial if you want to get the most out of your supplements (and the money you paid for them). Earth Clinic is a treasure trove of info! Read everything on here that you can. AND then google your supplements, and also google combos of the supplements you take to see what info is out there about taking them together (many times things can counteract one another). You can't just cook with coconut oil and say "Coconut oil didn't cure me of ______ so it doesn't work" etc, etc. You have to know HOW to use natural remedies (especially when you're also on any pharmaceutical DRUGS).

I have to disagree. VCO if used tor sauteeing and not deep frying can take more heat than other oils. Read Dr. Fyfe's book on coconut oil .

Olive oil is now 98% marketed to include gmo'ed cheap oils and it will be difficult to find pure olive oil since it will not show on the label. See other posts on that on EC. Namaste Om

Jess, you brought up an excellent point. Using the natural cures requires due diligence in researching how the natural cure should be optimally taken. Blindly gulping down something and going no further in the learning process can cause failure. There is a self education process that one must endure even if very sick. One must understand how things interact with other things. Vitamin C can nullify iodine supplementation if one is not careful.

Many supplements will direct person to take with food (probably to avoid nausea problems) when to be efficacious one should take without food. Reading what's on the manufactures label is not sufficient.

Many people who come to earth clinic are still under the trance of their conventional medical doctors. They will continue to blindly follow the advice without lifting a finger to realize the inefficacy of so many of their prescribed medications. I notice many people who have side effects from astaxanthin are using other prescription medications. Natural medicines and conventional medicines are most of the time in opposition to each other. It requires a higher level of expertise to combine the two also and this is something that most doctors just won't do. They will just say the natural medicine doesn't work.

Some people are so overwhelmed with mental and physical sickness that they are unable to make the mental effort. It may take them a couple years to implement some suggestion. I am very careful with what I suggest knowing that what may seem like little effort to the average person may require a monumental effort from them mentally and physically. If they still trust their doctors, the negative fate of their health is usually sealed. Nothing can be really done.

Most people just want to be told what to do since it psychologically seems to make their life easier. If one is relatively healthy and has no major problem, it will usually work. They are lulled into a sense of comfort. When something serious comes along, they will usually be in trouble and will never know that conventional medicine was the reason behind their death.

There is burn point for the oil. There is the point when the vital nutrients of the oil get destroyed. You may both be right but in differnt ways. If oil is cold pressed, I would assume it's sensitive to heat

I have to agree with Om here. I've been using VCO to cook with and medicinally for over 6 years now and I've never regretted doing this. Mind you, VCO is much cheaper in the Philippines than in the West. VCO helped to kill my candida, rapidly cured my constipation (I was going for poops once every 7 days -- and that's serious), I lost weight and the VCO also helped my skin by leaps and bounds. What's more, my BP is still at 110/70 -- been that value for the last 6 years -- ever since including VCO permanently in my diet (while excluding all processed veg oils).

So I am a little astonished when people say that saturated fat is bad for them. That's the Lipid Theory screaming at you in your brain and its like a knee-jerk or instinctive reaction for most people. We've all been taught or brainwashed by the drugs companies 40 years or so ago, when the FDA decided (together with the processed vegetable oil cartels in the US), that vegetable oils were all terribly good for the heart.

Strange though that even after the whole world population converted to processed veg oil 40 years ago and who are now all happily cooking everything imaginable in heavily processed (and oxidized) polyunsaturated vegetable oils -- that the heart disease statistics today in the West have gone logarithmic. Therefore, one must at least fairly conclude from this that the FDA's heart disease theory -- veg oils benefit the heart!! -- is absolute bunk and is just a stupid ruse to help aid sales for the US veg oil cartels.

In the 1970s-80s there was a trade war going on between the Asian coconut and palm oil cartels and the the aggressive US rapeseed cartels and farmers. The palm oil cartels were winning because their oil was cheaper. After some very bad heart research by Ancel Keys which was used to make saturated fats enemy number, people then started using more and more processed veg oils(more trans fats) in their diets and heart disease has blossomed to become the epidemic disease that it is today.

For those who want to know more about how they (and their parents) were duped/brainwashed by an ad campaign from the US veg oil cartels 40 years ago, then best to read this, which is pure common sense:

How a P.R. Campaign Led to Unhealthy Diets

The government has for many years advocated fish oil. I bump into so many people who climbed on board.

But they neglect to warn people - the oxidation in fish oil are known to cause aging and lower intelligence. I take the more stable and less rancid krill oil but I a;ways take it with enough antioxidants. An alternative is to take parent oils or non fish oils. There is a point of view which says that fish oils are not good for you based on the ratio of 18 and 20 chained molecules must be maintained which I haven't become convinced.

So the powers that be try to screw people through the holistic health angle. Anything they recommend even if it seems healthy, one must keep on alert for the gotchas.

Most of those people who climbed on board with fish oils will get damaged over the long run without the antioxidants. Some manufacturers of fish oil do add antioxidants but usually not enough.

I too have to agree with Om. I purchased what I thought was quality OO, but I kept having to return it to the store because it went rancid. Then it was on quite a few news briefs about how companies were diluting the OO with cheaper oils to cut costs. You just don't know who you can trust anymore.

HI U PRIORIS, , , , , , , , , Our Anti-aging doctor put us on fish oil big time some 6 years ago. We buy ours from LEF because they are quality folks. We subscribe to a few medical news letters and one is edited by Dr Robert Rowen. He says that Omega 3's from fish oil is bad news Charlie and will cause you to age before your time. You have to believe somebody so we are swapping out about $ 400 of Omega 3 fish oil for 3, 6, 9 oil from vegetables. There are a lot of experts this day and time and you have to pick who you think is a winner.

The best two news letters we have found is Dr Rowen and Dr Frank Scellenberger. You dang sure can't go with your regular MD. He is 20 years behind the times and only listens to the Pharma rep in a tight skirt, and feeds his staff. I say that because our youngest daughter was a Big Pharma rep for a number of years.

The medical field has changed in my lifetime and most of you know this. It's a big house, a beach house and a European vacation. As the sayin goes, " DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS". Don't mess with the medical field unless you want confusion.

I began taking coconut oil about June 1st this summer, primarily for my long term hypothyroidism. Now not yet 3 months later I am completely off my synthroid and cytomel. I was on more than 300 mcg for about 7 years. It has changed my life. I feel so much better than I did on the thyroid meds. I am not cold, I am sleeping better. It made a herpes outbreak completely dissappear in 4 hours when applied topically. my periods which have been abnormal all my life are normalizing,(I am 45) and I am finding that I am eating smaller meals and more satisfied and not hungry. I swear I can hear the click in my head that says I have had enough to eat! Ive lost 10 lbs. I attribute it all to 4tbsp VCO a day(2w bfst/1w lunch/1w dinner) and also trace minerals, and fish oil. none or very little bread and refined carbs. I did have a day of scary high blood pressure symptoms, after which I reduced my meds by 1/3rd, and the symptoms went away. A wwk or so later when I began feeling the same things again, I reduced my meds again and again until I quit all together. the last step is to get my blood levels tested by my doc, just to confirm I am doing as great as I feel, tho I am starting to think it is not necessary, except to gloat to my dr.

My god I'm totally blown away by this website. It is without doubt the best website on the planet. For many years I have suffered with back pain, chronic fatigue and depression. I keep telling my doctor that all my symtoms point to a thyroid issue but she will not listen. I did have some thyroid tests done but they came back normal. Symtoms are hair loss on shins, calves, eybrows, cold hands, cold feet, zero sex drive, depression, chronic fatigue, unable to lose weight, lower back pain, knee pain, pain in wrists, pain in ankles, pain in all joints, constipation and yes even thoughts of suicide. I thought I was almost on to finding the solution when I started taking my Nascent iodine supplement last week. The reason why I thought I might be iodine deficient is after spraying a cut with iodine about an hour later I started to feel great, no brain fog and felt happy. I assumed wrongly or rightly that is must be an iodine defiency. Anyway I went out and purchased some Nascent iodine. According to the Nascent instructions you take 1 drop in 3 to 6 oz water or topically for the first, increasing 1 drop each day for 5 days. On the 5th day I took 5 drops and later felt very faint and light headed. Also it felt as though my heart was pumping faster and I must admit I was quite scared. I then read about Virgin Coconut oil and decided to give it a go. I took a tablespoon in the morning together within my muesli and with an hour I started to feel that a great weight had lifted from me. I couldn't believe it, I went out for a run and actually felt happy and motivated for the first time in many years. I am also losing weight, for some reason it seems to raise your metabolism. I take a tablespoon in the morning with breakfast, a tablespoon with my lunch and a tablespoon with my dinner. It is nothing short of amazing, thanks so much for all the wonderful people on earthclinic. Coconut oil may not work for everyone but it certainly works for me. Good luck to all.

I have read a lot of the comments about the VCO and its problems. i have been taking VCO & ACV (Read my testimonial) for over 10 years. In addition to both of these natural cures I also take 1/2 lemon & 1 tbsp. of Sea Salt each day with 8 oz. of warm water. This lemon/sea salt drink is a natural cleanser for your liver & digestive tract. If anyone is scared of the VCO causing liver problems then this might benefit them. The VCO does give you a oily discharge and gas but the benefits far outweigh the negative. I have taken several body cleanses and the natural, cheap and easiest way to do a body cleanse is to take the VCO twice daily (I mix mine with vanilla yogurt) and you will dispel the parasites that cause illnesses and clean your intestinal tract that when old food is not dispelled causes diseases. I do the lemon drink first thing then my VCO with yogurt and then my ACV & water and I am ready with so much energy to start my day. I have my thyroid and weight under control due to this regimen.

I also use VCO instead of body lotion or hair conditioner. I had very dry hair, skin and cuticles due to a thyroid problem but once I started the VCO it went away. I also make a VCO & Sea Salt scrub that does double duty because it opens your pores of the skin to dispel toxins and softens your skin. I am a 48 year old red head grandmother that looks in her 30's because of this great oil. I have 3 incurable diseases that I take no medication for except for my thyroid medication and my dosage keeps getting smaller & smaller each time my blood work is done.

I have found many cures for illnesses that are natural and have not been to a doctor in 4 years except for my yearly Lupus physical.

There are some small spots that look like melanoma from the sun and I'm putting the oil directly on them. I'm hoping to see results from that. Will keep you posted. I'm so happy we came across this. I have been suffering with the symptoms describing hypothyroidism. Last week I started the EVCO and added the ACV, of course, decided to throw in the molasses. I will keep you all posted on my progress, trying to feel better and lose the 40 pounds I have picked up. Today I write because I have come up with a great drink. It kills two birds with one stone. Here goes: ONE LARGE MUG 2 BAGS OF LIPTON CARMEL TRUFFLE TEA ONE TBSP EVCO [Extra Virgin Coconut Oil] ONE TBPS BLACK STRAP MOLASSES ONE HALF TO ONE TBSP HONEY POUR BOILING WATER OVER THE INGREDIENTS IN MUG AND STIR GENTLY WHILE STEEPING TO MELT THE COCONUT OIL.

I could not stand the taste of the molasses, however it is so yummy in this tea. Hope you like it. I have noticed since the evco and acv that like most everyone else, my ENERGY has soared, skin soft, body temp up, hair and nails gowing, dry seriously cracking heels softer and healing (using oil dirrectly) no more claritin, sleeping better, brighter outlook. This is only my seventh day. At first I seemed to gain a little weight, but just today I noticed the scale is down 1 pound. I am keeping at it and will keep you posted.

Hi Carolyn, that is awesome! Congratulations and that is very encouraging! Thanks for sharing! Yesterday my doctor suggested stopping Tapazole for awhile since I had restarted last Friday and was getting heart racing, and thyroid pain, and have a physical assessment coming up re. a car accident, which I need to be healthy for. I have been hyperthyroid as well. I was off work for a year with it. Now much better, Thank God!

Now I was wondering what to substitute or try in place of the Tapazole. I have been taking motherwort tincture, and also a mixture of motherwort and three other herbs, in Genestra's Motherwort Combination #3. That has been quite helpful! But not helpful enough I guess, as my levels still went up when I was on it.

Yes, but now I would like to try coconut oil, which I had started a month ago, and stopped, although I liked the taste and it felt so good in my stomach. And my hair and skin felt softer.

So, could you tell me how much coconut oil you took, and at what level were your thyroid levels? My TSH was at .01 last I checked; .025 3 weeks before, when I went off the Tapazole. And my Free T4 at 28 last I checked, and at 20 the previous time. So I'd like to know how much you took, and how much it helped you so I can figure out how much I should take.

Thanks a lot! Rachel in Canada.

Hypothyroid / Coconut Oil: I suffer from hypothyroid and have taken levoxyl for about 7 years. I also have suffered with fatigue for most of my 47 years for a wide variety of reasons (anemia, depression, hypothyroid, sleep apnea, RLS). It seems I have every condition that can rob one of sleep and energy. Anyway, I was looking for a natural form of thyroid support and came upon information about coconut oil being helpful (about two weeks ago). I just found this wonderful site this week, which I intend to frequent OFTEN, and I thought I'd contribute my experience with coconut oil. So far (2 weeks) I have a bit more energy. I have gained about 8 pounds since January (I tend to be slim), which I want to lose. I hope the energy helps the weight loss. I'll keep you posted.

I had a low functioning thyroid, very dry hair and skin. Since taking the Virgin Coconut Oil I no longer need my thyroid meds. My hair is soft and silky and my skin has dramatically improved. I cook with it and I also put it on my face 2x per day. What a miracle, I have also noticed an increase in energy. Other cure I found for it was diaper rash. My baby had a really bad rash while teething, her bottom would bleed and none of the creams at the store seemed to do anything at all, so I tried the coconut oil and with one application her bottom cleared up dramatically and the next day it was completely gone!

My good cholesterol was raised by 10 points, also. I am careful to take this everyday at the same time, with the same amount ingested (1 Tablespoon). I have never experienced any of the problems reported. It has made my skin so soft that my husband has to touch me all the time!! He can't believe the difference! I have always been very careful of eating right and exercising--this fits right in with my other regimes.

DMSO, Coconut Oil

DMSO in Coconut Oil Topically Applied to Swollen Thyroid - Walnut Oil Optional

I cannot find any precedent for topical DMSO on a slightly swollen thyroid gland. I have what I suspect is self-limiting, sub acute thyroiditis with some now visible swelling of the thyroid on one side, preceded by two months of a roller coaster ride from hell of rapid heart rater, insomnia, loss of appetite, tremors....all the "too much thyroid production is going on" and this high octane misery is running though you system, symptoms.

I have no insurance and have not been able to get to an endocrinologist at all.

No one will help me, so I'll have to help myself. First, I've taken all recommended supplements: selenium, rhodiola, motherwort, molybdenum, black seed oil, etc. Most things help somewhat or for a while, but the terrible hyper heart racing and all persist.

So I got to thinking...I am very familiar with DMSO. Basically, getting sulfur (the /S/ in DMSO) into the cells anywhere is like a tonic to them and with this help, they may well return to their optimal functioning. And coconut oil is recommended for hyperthyroid conditions, be they self-limiting as I hope this current thyroiditis is, or more long-standing such as Grave's Disease. Walnut oil, topically applied, is part of the traditional Ayurvedic treatment for thyroid.

I have had no pain and no visible swelling of the thyroid, but I can now feel the swollen area. I have been applying walnut oil, nightly since I suspected this was a hyper thyroid issue of some sort (two months + ago). Once I applied the DMSO and coconut today, I can feel the gland "tingling" ever so slightly - almost imperceptibly. Is this good? I have the feeling that it is. I'm going to continue with this experiment upon myself because, really, I have no access to modern healthcare approaches to my condition and they all seem to be subpar ones at best, anyway.

I will update this post with results. I am going to proceed with a single, daily application until symptoms (hopefully) improve. That will mean:

- no more "hyper" symptoms

- swelling has gone down to nothing

There is also a tradition of taking pure walnut oil, 1 teaspoon, 3x a day, an hour before meals. I may try this as well.

In before it's asked: "How much coconut oil and DMSO?" About 1/3 cup coconut oil and 10 drops of the purest, glass-bottled, food-grade DMSO

Hi Zander

I have extreme faith in Frankincense Oil, You should rub morning and night, also take a drop or 2 internally.

It has never let me down in killing tumors. It can fix what needs fixing..

God Bless

Gary

HI, JUST WANTED TO SHARE MY STORY WHICH DEVELOPED A YEAR AGO. I WENT TO FLA FOR THE WINTER TO HELP MY AUNT AND UNCLE . THEY EAT TONS OF SOY PRODUCTS AND I BEGAN TO EAT WITH THEM. AFTER TWO MONTHS MY HEART BEGAN TO RACE , MY SKIN BECAME DRY, I WAS CONSTIPATED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE, MY HAIR STATED TO FALL OUT, I FELT LIKE I HAD A LUMP IN MY THROAT AND I HAD TO COUGH EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE TO CLEAR IT AND I HAD PAIN IN MY NECK AREA OFF AND ON ALL THE TIME. IN THE SUMMER I RETURN TO MICHIGAN BECAUSE MY FATHER WAS ILL. I WENT THROUGH TWO MONTHS OF RACING HEART BEATS ONE DAY THE NEXT DAY FEELING LIKE A MACK TRUCK RAN ME OVER AND THAN ABOUT A WEEK LATER MY HEART WOULD SKIP BEATS FOR 48 HOURS. I WOULD FEEL BETTER FOR A FEW DAYS AND THAN ANOTHER ATTACK OF RACING HEART BEATS....ETC.. THIS WENT ON BACK AND FORTH. WHEN MY HEART WAS RACING I FELT HYPER MY BASAL TEMPERATURE WAS 98.6. ON THE DAYS MY HEART WAS SKIPPING BEATS MY BASAL TEMPERATURE WAS 97 AND I COULD NOT GET WARM. I BECAME VERY SCARED AND WENT TO A DOCTOR BECAUSE I THOUGHT I HAD HEART PROBLEMS. I HAD A BLOOD TEST DONE EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL BUT IT SHOWED I HAD BOTH ANTIBODIES AND THE DOCTOR DIAGNOISED ME WITH HASHIMOTO'S AND SAID I SHOULD BEGIN THYROID IMMEDIATELY. I TOLD HER I WAS GOING TO TRY ALTERNATIVE FIRST. I ASKED HER WHAT WOULD HAPPEN ON THE DAYS MY IMMUNE SYSTEM ATTACK MY THYROID IF ON THAT MORNING I ALSO TOOK THYROID MED. I PICTURED MY HEART EXPLODING. SHE COULDN'T ANSWER THAT SO I WAITED AND BEGAN MY OWN RESEARCH.

FIRST I STOPPED ALL SOY PRODUCTS. I HAD TO BE REAL CAREFUL WITH THIS BECAUSE I QUICKLY REALIZED THAT TO INGEST EVEN A LITTLE SOY THAT MAY BE HIDDEN IN BREAD ETC GAVE ME A VIOLENT REACTION.I BEGAN TO READ LABELS VERY CAREFULLY. BY THE WAY OUR FOOD IS INVADED BY SOY. AFTER STOPPING SOY MY THYROGLOBULIN AB ANTIBODY BECAME NORMAL IN TWO MONTHS AND IS STIIL NORMAL 8 MONTHS LATER. I DECIDED TO STOPPED EATING ALL FOODS THAT DECREASE THYROID PRODUCTION KNOW AS GOITROGENS , TO GO ON A GLUTEN FREE DIET AND I ALSO STOPPED DAIRY PRODUCTS BECAUSE OF THE CASEINS. EVERY DAY I TAKE SELENIUM, AND BECAUSE I DRANK REVERSE OSMOSIS WATER ALL MY LIFE AND WANTED TO GET MORE MINERALS I BOUGHT A WATER FILTER FROM AQUASANA THAT DOES NOT REMOVE THE MINERALS. I HAD QUESTIONED HAULING AND STORING THE REVERSE OSMOSIS WATER IN PLASTIC CONTAINERS THAT I WAS FILLING AT THE HEATH FOOD STORE. PCBS CAN LEACH INTO THE WATER AND PCBS DAMAGE THE THYROID GLAND. I GOT RID OF ALL MY PLASTIC CONTAINERS IN MY HOUSE AND REPLACED THEN WITH HEALTHY GLASS CONTAINERS.I ALSO MADE SURE I GOT 150 MCG OF IODINE A DAY AND IF I TOOK MORE THAN THAT I FELT HEPER THAT DAY. I DON'T HAVE HEART RACING BUT IT MADE ME NERVOUS, SO I AM CAREFUL WITH THE IODINE. I KNOW PEOPLE IN JAPAN GET ABOUT 12.5 MG IODINE A DAY .... BUT THINK ABOUT THIS...... HASHIMOTO'S DISEASE WAS DISCOVERED IN JAPAN AND JAPANESE PEOPLE EAT LOTS OF GOITROGENS IN THEIR DIET INCLUDING SOY WHICH CAUSE THE THYROID NOT TO ABSORB IODINE SO THAT IS WHY THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH THE AMOUNT OF IODINE THEY GET FROM EATING LOTS OF SEAWEED.

IN ANY CASE WHEN I STOPPED ALL GOITROGENS AND BEGAN IODINE THE PAIN IN MY NECK AREA COMPLETELY STOPPED WITHIN 24 HOURS AND HAS NOT RETURNED.I HAD ALSO BEGAN TO FEEL PAIN IN MY BREAST WHICH ALSO DISAPPEARED. I FELT GREAT ON 150/MCG A DAY. DURING THIS TRANSITION SINCE I MADE ALL THESE CHANGES MY TEST RESULTS ARE ALL NORMAL EXCEPT MY TPO AB IS STILL A LITTLE HIGH BUT EVERY TWO MONTHS IT DROPS 20 POINTS. IT WAS 141 AND NOW IT IS 120. I AM SURE IT WILL CONTINUE TO DROP UNTIL IT IS NORMAL. I AM FEELING SOOO MUCH BETTER. MY BASAL TEMPERATURE IS 98.2 EVERY MORNING.

FINALLY AFTER 10 MONTHS OF THIS WHOLE PROGRESS AND CHANGES I FOUND AN ALTERNATIVE HEALER IN MY AREA. HE WAS AMAZED BY MY PROGRESS AND THE DECISIONS I HAD TAKEN. HE SUGGESTED I ADD A HOMEOPHATHIC REMEDY CALLED THYROIDINUM 30X 2 PILLS 3 TIMES A DAY. I AM DOING THIS AND REALLY FEEL I AM ALMOST 100% HEALED. WHEN I THINK BACK TO THOSE TIMES MY HEART WAS ACTING UP SO BADLY I KNOW MY METABOLISUM WAS REALLY IN BAD SHAPE. I FEEL THE MAJOR CAUSE WAS THE SOY. IT TURNS OUT I AM ALLERGIC TO SOY, BUT EVEN SO 1/4 CUP OF SOY MILK WILL CAUSE THE TYHROID IN AN NON-ALLERGIC INDIVIDUAL TO WORK 50% LESS FOR 24 HOURS. I ALSO THINK IF YOU EAT A GOTEIREN TYPE FOOD ON THOSE DAYS AND MAYBE A FEW DAYS AFTERWARDS IT WOULD BE WISE TO INCREASE IODINE BUT THAN GO BACK TO A STARDARD DOSAGE. EVERY NIGHT BEFORE I RETIRE I TAKE 1/2 TEASPOON OF MAGNISIUM CITRATE IN A GLASS OF WATER THIS HEALS ME SLEEP LIKE A BABY. I HOPE MY EXPERIENCE CAN HELP SOMEONE OUT THERE. IF YOU WANT MORE INFORMATION ON ANY CHANGE I MADE IN MY DIET JUST GO ON LINE AND LOOK..SOY AND THYROID ,GLUTEN ETC.... THIS IS A GREAT SIGHT TO READ ALL ABOUT IT AS WELL.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL .....JEANINE.

For more than 10 years now I have been drinking soybean almost everyday, and eating tofu now and then, and my heart ]is ok, so is my thyroid and blood pressure. Seems that everyone is different.... Are you sure it is because of soy?

Yes, maybe soy is not that healthy as soy industry tells us but maybe it is also not that bad as the competetive industries try to make us believe.

could be an individual allergy or ?? but societies who consume whole soy as a regular staple, (Japan) seem to reap many health benefits as a result...there isn't an epidemic of thyroid problems. I beleive many in this society would do much better to substitute meat for whole soy. Natto being my favorite, though an acquired taste, has numerous health benefits...especially for those concerned about osteoporosis... I would eliminate non-stick pans & plastics & other chemical exposures first.

With regard to the Japanese "consuming" soy, it is my understanding that they only consume soy products that have undergone fermentation to remove the toxins..eg tofu, tempeh, soy sauce..Apparently they do not consume the beans themselves. The same in China though I have read that in very poor parts of China where the beans are consumed there is a very high rate of cretinism.

The way soy is made in Japan is very different than here. I read that organic soy non-GMO soy that is made in the old world way is fine. But my integrative MD told me to lay off the soy because finding a good producer is too hard and that soy can cause women issues with hormones.
