07/02/2009: Lynne from Belleview, Fl writes: "Can someone tell me what the correct doseage would be of asodopholus for a 4lb 9oz Yorkie?"
Replies01/20/2011: Lisa from Vancouver, Wa replies: "Not sure but I have 25 lb. Shih Tzu's & I give them 1/4 to 1/3 of a tablet of "1 Billion Organisms per caplet at time of manufacture" Acidophilus Dietary Supplement.I guesstimated the dosage based on other internet stuff I read on what people gave their dogs. It's good to help the healthy bacteria in the gut flourish & fight yeast infections... like my dog gets in his ear.
I was putting it in cheese, but I think I will switch to those "pill pockets" or peanut butter cuz of my dog's constant ear infection... I think from the dairy he gets now--I've been putting his meds in string cheese.
Hopefully it will help someone..."
02/21/2011: Heidi from Washburn, Wi replies: "Hello everyone,
There are a few general food companies I would recommend. First, cats and dogs should be eating wet food, not dry. The food should be holistic, human-grade and meat based too. I recommend Evo, Innova and Wellness. All lines have grain free, meat based and age related formulas.
If your cat has severe crystals or UTI problems, I recommend Wysong Uretic, which is specifically for urinary tract and crystal formation support."
05/19/2011: Kim from Atlanta, Ga replies: "My dog is a 4yr old husky and pit mix has a very bad scratching problem. He does not have fleas nor ticks. We pay good money to prevent that. But the thing with his scratching is that as soon as I let him outside to take care of business before he takes care of business he will drag his stomach all across the grass. Sometimes he does this from the front of the yard to the back of the yard. It can be a bit much for me to watch him go through this. He has scratched so much he does have a few abrasions and hot spots. So I hoping the ACV remedy will help. At one pet the vet gave me some meds to an extent they were helping but not enough in my eyes. I dont want him to be on meds the rest of his life either. Well I really do appreciate earth clinic for there chat boards. I hope this will help my dog."
05/31/2011: Misschris from Nolanville, Tx replies: "I don't know what you feed your beloved pet, but I venture to say that his diet is most likely the cause of his issues. The following links can provide some insight. At the first link, download the Rex Healthy foods happy dogs (or all of them as I have). Veeeery interesting. 08/30/2010: Kathy from Covington, Virginia writes: "I am having a terrible time with my cocker mixed. She is eleven yrs. old and has developed a skin problem in the last year. Her Vet. says it is allergies and skin infection from that. She has been given antibiotics and prednesone. This helped but it comes back. Heat makes it worse so she does not go outside for any length of time. She has lumps, black skin, sores, itching, scaling and panting. She also lost her hearing suddenly. She is my best friend and I need to help her. I have tried the ACV and now am shampooing with anti-fungal. Also changed her diet to grain free. I put cream on her skin to help with itching. I think she has yeast."
Replies09/06/2010: Gina from Iuka, Ms replies: "MY yorkie had the same thing I changed his diet which helped, but the thing that helped the most was one teaspoon of organic coconut oil once a day in his food. It got rid of yeast and bumps on his belly(pyroderma) the black skin is going away. You can also rub it on the skin. I also use dermagic lotion and shampoo."
11/03/2010: Mari from Los Gatos, Ca replies: "Gina my yorkie has the same problem shes very itchy and her skin is turning black from how bad it is I feel so bad for her what kind of food did you change your dog to and where can I get coconut oil?"
11/11/2010: Kerryann from Bogangar, Nsw replies: "Try some Conifer Green Needle Complex. Mix one capsule in 1 desert spoon of omega oil and apply to lesions, plus let you dog have about a teaspoon of the mixture to lick off your fingers. The Conifer Complex kills yeasts, bacteria of all kinds, including Staphlococcus Aureus, which causes the infection. It also builds the immune system and helps with allergies. I have used one capsule twice daily and found hot spots and infection clears in 2-3 days. Make sure you bathe the area in warm water and hibiclens or phisohex or detol, before each application. Also, pat dry the areas before applying the oil mix."
11/15/2010: Gina from Iuka, Ms replies: "Mari, sorry it took me so long I dont read the site everyday. After the recall I started making my own food. I have two yorkies so you might not make as much. Boil four chicken thighs, take the meat and skin off the bone and chop it up. Boil white rice in broth from chicken. Mix this all together with two tablespoons of pumpkin(not pie mix). Put in fridg. Before I feed them I put 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil in each bowl with about two tablespoons of food. Microwave this for about 20 secs. I feed them twice a day the same way. The only other food they get is raw baby carrots and organic apples for treats. I give them a pettab once a day. I use Tree of Life Kosher organic expeller pressed coconut oil. I get it at the health food store but I looked it up and you can get it at amazon.com. I also use Mal-a-Kit shampoo at absolutelypets.com. You can rub the cocounut oil on the yeast and this will help till its gone you can also give your baby benedryl. Thats all I can think of right now if you have any more questions let me know I will try and check the site more often. Good luck"
12/20/2010: Leann from Lake Bluff, I, Usa replies: "Kerryann, Where did you get the Conifer Green Needle Complex from? I am interested in knowing a reputable source since my dog is suffering from repeated issues with allergies, skin issues and staph infections. We have tried multiple remedies and changing to grain-free diet and testing multiple protein sources to see if it is food related. We (the vet) now think it is a airborne or contact source (dust, etc. ) Thanks for your help!"
12/23/2010: Annette from New York, Ny replies: "I have awaken at 5 am, three hours before the time I need to get up, due to my Yorkie, Paris, scratching and crying. She itches her ears, nibbles her paws and has dryness around her nose. I was looking online at possible solutions when I came across a site that said its most likely her food, an allergic reaction to her food. It said most commercial foods have wheat, corn, soy by-products which cause a lot of problems in pets-namely the itching and scratching I've been witnessing. I went to look at the ingredients in her food and sure enough there was corn gluten meal and wheat gluten meal named within the first two lines. At the end of the post was a few sites on alternate pet food and allergy sites. I went to it I intend to purchase food for her and also some of the seagreens powder which is good for:
Scratching
Hot Spots
Ear Infections
Hypo-Thyroid
Lack of Energy
Paw Licking
Excessive Shedding
I think changing your pet's diet should produce some great results. Let me know if this proved correct. Happy holidays everyone!"
09/08/2011: Dj's Mama from Crystal Lake, Il replies: "I had this same problem with my dog. I had been to the vet again and again. Then, the vet clinic was sold. I saw the new guy, Dr. Jim Carlson, who specializes in Chinese medicine. He said DJ's diet was too "hot". He had me make his food... All "cool" foods. It worked great. I made a follow up appointment and accidentally got booked in with the old vet... I scrambled up out of the chair when he came in with steroids!!! I don't know how many vets work with Chinese medicine, but here's his email address. Maybe he can help you: drjimcarlson(at)aol.com. We are NW of Chicago in the suburbs about 60 miles."
09/17/2011: Blinkinbug from Mundelein, Il replies: "I go to Dr. Carlson as well. What diet did he recommend for your dog?"
10/21/2011: Lorik24 from New Castle, Virginia Usa replies: "We have an 11 yr old Silky Terrier. In the last 6 months he has developed 'something' that makes him itch and scratch. Kathy from Covington, VA said her dog 'suddenly' lost its hearing. Our terrier has had the same thing happen.. That was about 4 months ago. At first I thought the summer air conditioner dried out is hair/skin and made him itchy. (no idea about the sudden total loss of hearing... HELP??) So I came to EC and found the ACV bath. I tried to add some ACV to the drinking water, but he won't drink it.. I use store bought, as I can't afford Braggs. I've also been giving him benadryl 2x's day. It's helped some, but not enough. I've also changed to non grain food. No relief.I want to be able to help/cure him with out Rx's...
How do I know if it's a food allergy, or yeast issue? Anyone know what is up with the sudden loss of hearing?
I cannot afford holistic foods, but am willing to make foods for him if I have to.
Anyone that can provide any answers, I greatly appreciate it!! Also, should you provide your home cures, please, please make sure you give names of items used, portion or amounts used and how often and where to find the items... Thanks all!
Lorik24 for New Castle Va"
11/09/2011: Nova from New Delhi, India replies: "Using red, green (not brocoli as gas producing) and yellow vegetables only (ie not white veggies) and diced mutton, make a 'stew' in a saucepan and feed your dog twice a day. Feed this only for a couple of months You can also feed uncooked rib mutton bones once a day. Try this diet for two months then one by one, introduce treats. This way you will also know if any treats you give are the culprit ie scratching returns. If so, don't feed the treat. Hope this helps. It helped my Westie."

08/28/2009: Janet from Manchester, Lancashire, England writes: "I am the proud owner of four adorable cats. I have found this site a life saver as one of my cats; Bobby had continuous UTI's and since adding ACV to his food as well as Cantharis tablets he has improved incredibly. One of my cats; Ginger also has a problem with his skin. He is constantly biting and pulling his fur out, his back has bald, red and itchy patches and approx every six months I need to take him to the vets to have a steroid injection to stop it. This can be very costly and as I have four cats and I am not very well off I wondered if there is anything anyone can suggest? I decided to mix a little ACV with warm water and rubbed this solution on his itchy areas in the hope it might stop. He is practically eating himself alive at times and it is very distressing for both him and me. Since rubbing him with this stuff he is sleeping right now and I will carry on doing this. Has anyone else experienced problems with this kind of condition?"
Replies11/27/2009: Paula from Sedro Woolley, Wa, Usa replies: "To Janet in Manchester, my cat Baby had the same problem with going bald on his back, it was so bad that he stayed out in the rain to relieve the inflammation. He had multiple allergies to foods and the environment. $3000 dollars and two years later he is better because I changed his diet. Spend the money on organic cat food, it is people grade food without the fungicides and pesticides that they spray on regular pet food (scraping the slaughter house floor and selling it to pet owners in the guise of food.) It is more economical to buy the good pet food, my other cats also benefited from the changed diet. Their coats got glossy. I had raised Baby on canned cat food, a popular brand, it seems that that is what caused him the allergies. My other cats had been mousers and support from dry cat food. Many animals are allergic to corn and fleas."
07/12/2010: Annie from Fort Walton Beach, Fl, Usa replies: "I would first like to express my gratitude for this website. I don't have much faith in the medical profession, these days, and being old-fashion anyways, I prefer home remedies over prescription drugs or cures any day. With that said, I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I seem to be having with my 8 yr old Border Collie/Husky mix. QT weighs approx. 100lb and is a very lovable companion. I will do anything possible to make her better, she deserves that. When she was young, the vet diagnosed her as being allergic to fleas, which I have found to be their answer for anything that they can't really pinpoint. So we did the Prednisone and the allergy meds, which worked at first, but not a cure. Also, I use Advantage once a month for flea control. So she has no fleas, but she constantly scratches and bites herself. I came across you website and I have been trying Ted's Mange cure for Sarcoptic mites, but still not seeing a change in her. Since she has really thick fur and I wasn't sure that I was getting her soaked to the skin, since she repels water like a duck, I shaved her and what I found under all that hair appalled me. I believe I will be switching to the ACV and BSM treatments next, because her skin is in a terrible state. The other issue I found I have not seen any post about on this website. She has some lumps. One major one where her tail joins her body and another smaller one on her right hip. I know the one at her tail joint bothers her, because she walks with her tail swooped to the opposite side. It, also, itches. She wants me to rub it all the time, but I don't, because I don't know if this will just aggravate it. I will keep you all posted if the ACV and BSM help, but I could use some feedback on the lumps. Don't know if something has embedded itself inside her skin, or if its just part of her skin condition. Thanks for letting me vent. Have a blessed day."
07/14/2010: Annie from Fort Walton Beach, Fl, Usa replies: "Thank you, Racer, for your feedback. I, too, will start researching yeast infection. I have been trying some of the things here on the website. I tried the 1:1 ratio of the ACV and tried spraying her for the itching, but you would have thought I set her tail on fire, the way she went running through the house. Thank goodness it's a small house. I believe I will need to dilute this solution down a bit for her. I have, also, mixed up a concoction of 4T of ACV, 1/2 tsp of borax, 1 tsp of baking soda and 3T of honey in a gallon of water for her to drink. Only on day 2 of this regimen, will keep all updated. The newest thing I am trying is feeding her a raw diet. This, too, has only been going on for 2 days, so will keep all informed on the progress. Q is a finicky eater, so I have to hand feed her to get her to eat the concoction, but I'll do whatever it takes. At least, this way, I know what she is eating. EC, again, thanks for this wonderful website. Keep up the good work. It's nice to find and share info with people who truly love their animals."
07/14/2010: Racer from Hampton, Tn replies: "I had the same problem with our german shepherd, and it was yeast on the skin. Does your pet have dark spots on her legs, and inside of her ear flaps? This is a yeast problem. I have had my darling Dutchess to the vet. He gave her a bunch of anti yeast meds, and then also an anti yeast shampoo to do every week. I was told it couldnt really be attributed to the diet. I dont believe it at all. I am assuming she has a grain allergy, and also going to change her food. Yogurt is supposed to help with yeast and I am going to do a google search on how to get rid of yeast on the skin and in the body naturally. The vet visit cost me about three hundred dollars. . . But I am sure that now that I know what it is it would be less to just ask for the shampoo and pills. Blessings,
Robyn"
07/14/2010: Annie from Fort Walton Beach, Fl, Usa replies: "One thing I forgot to mention. Not just any yogurt will work. The best yogurt to get is the Greek plain yogurt. When you read the ingredients and if the package doesn't list all of the ingredients and the way it was processed, do not buy it. They are hiding things you don't want to feed your pet. Thanks."
08/02/2010: Sue from Tyler, Tx Usa replies: "Our RWIS had a large cyst at the junction of the tail and body. Our vet removed it and she was fine. No re-occurances. Using ACV on broken skin requires a large dilution, 2 tablespoons per quart of water. The main objective is to get the skin healed, so straight ACV can be used."
08/11/2010: R from Yonkers, Ny replies: "I was reading your posts and I thought I wanted to share what my dog and I went through. I also had a lot of vet visits that didn't really help. She smelled badly, lots of skin stuff going on, itching, black spots, biting, licking and did I mention the horrible smell even when I bathed her twice a week. Well, I had read enough about how to bring back the balance in a humans body with yeast infections or candida. So, I took all the remedies and did them all. I shaved her down to get to the skin, sprayed her down with the apple cider vinegar mix and then let it sit. I then poured Kefir on her skin and let that sit (its pretty cold) after ten minutes I bathed her. This helped with the smell and the raw skin. I noticed she kept licking the black spots so I after each bath I did Ted's Borax solution. This helped immensely. She no longer smells, no longer scratches all that is left are her paws. I am continuing to do Ted's Borax solution on her paws and letting her stand in the mix. I hope that helps!"
07/21/2011: Marlin from Red Oak, Iowa replies: "I have questions: What is Kefir where to buy?Recipe for both :
Ted's Borax Solution
Apple Cider Vinegar Mix"

[YEA] 08/25/2009: Rob from Myrtle Beach, Sc writes: "i think this site is greattt. our 8 yr old schnauser has been scratching so much the people downstairs could hear the thumps he made under the bed. his (un)favorite passtime is scratching and chewing himself raw, anywhere and everywhere on his body. if you were to talk to him, he would tell you that he is notttt a dog. he thinks hes a human. he hasnt touched anything hangin around on the floor since he was a puppy---the house could have no floor space with junk all over it(which it doesnt) but if it did, he wouldnt touch it. he only plays with or chews his stuff. but when our son talked nasty to him., he ferreted out our sons favorite toy, chewed it up, walked over to our son, got his attention, dropped the chewed toy, gave our son a look that said take that!, and walked slowly away while our son screamed and cryed because his favorite toy was soo chewed up beyond recognition. i told my son how sorry i was but that titan was telling him too: respect me! do not yell at me. people say dogs dont have a revenge streak--i say bull! yes they do. needless to say our son hasnt yelled at titan in 4yrs. this is a dog who will find a pill on the floor and come get me to pick it up(he wont touch it). this lil schnauser never sniffs people except for their feet, but when he sniffs you, then you better get to the doctors right away. he kept sniffing my chest(and like i said he never sniffs people) and less than a week later, i had pertussis. he started sniffing my sons groin area, the next night my son complained of pain in that area---he had a bladder infection. titan started sniffing my husband, and my husband had a kidney stone attack a couple days later. he is a veryyyy intellegent dog. if the cat gets out of the house, he comes and tells us. when my daughter was a teenager and tryed to sneak out of her bedroom window in the middle of the night way down the hall he told us. anyway, you can see hes a special lil part of family. anywayyy i tryed everything for his itching. you name it , i tryed it. nothing worked., but this afternoon after reading your site. i gave him a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar with the mother--the good stuff. and lo and behold--- after about 15 minutes----hes quiet and relaxed sitting there like he owns the place--as usual lol buttt with noooo scratching. i have to say, i cant believe it, acv actually worked when all the vitamins, minerals, drugs ,cremes etc didnt. nowww if someone can pleaseee tell me how to get him from running out the door when we open it, i wont have any problems with him. he got a lil certificate from a training school yrs ago, but when he got home, it was like---im home now so i can do what i want. hes veryyy well trained, but racing out of the house when the door is open has become a real problem--any suggestions for a frustrated owner and a schnauser who thinks hes a human???? againnnn thank you!!!! for this site"
RepliesEC: What an amazing dog! Thank for these great stories!
09/28/2009: Catrina from Norwich, Ct replies: "About getting your dog not to dart out the door. I know this isn't natural but it does work. I adopted a dog about 8 months ago and she is almost three years old. One of the biggest problems I had with her was darting out the door when it was opened. She could have been hit buy a car or attacked by another dog. There are a lot of bad things that could have happened so I decided enough was enough. I found a barrier collar on clearance. Yes it will shock your dog once but your dog will immediately associate the beep that comes before the shock and immediately back away from the door. My children and I tested the collar on our hands to be sure it wouldn't harm our dog and Its not nearly strong enough to harm a normal healthy dog. I'm sure the also have the same collar that only gives the dog a vibration and I think that would work because thats pretty much how the shock felt. It felt more like a vibrate. I must after first initial shock my dog has not darted out the door. She has not darted out the door for over six months. She doesn't even try anymore its such a relief."
[WORKED TEMPORARILY] 05/15/2011: Maryland from Los Angeles, Ca, Usa replies: "It worked! My 2 year old Mini Schnauzer started to scratch and there were no fleas or ticks in sight, and he soon was losing hair on his tummy, eating off his paws, flaky skin falling off when he scratched and redness on his tummy.I read here about spraying Apple Cider Vinegar on him but it didn't seen to work. Then I bathed him with a cup of Apple Cider Vinegar on I-don't-know-how-much-water and he seemed to be less itchy.
A week later I bathed him again on Apple Cider Vinegar and water and he was itching 90% less. THEN I started to spray him with a solution of 50% water 50% Apple Cider Vinegar everyday and he is cured!
Thank you so much people!!!"
[WORKED TEMPORARILY] 10/03/2011: Maryland from Los Angeles, Ca, Usa replies: "Earth Clinic, please change my positive feedback on this matter! The apple cider vinegar didn't actually work. A week or so after I posted the feedback above, my dog kept iching himself. I had to put the Elizabethan collar on him at night so he would not scratch his head, but he was still able to scratch his body. His tummy was getting red and he was chewing his paws. He didn't have ticks but I did see some fleas he got from my other dog.
I still had a shampoo that I bought at the vet last year, so I bathed him with it and his itching decreased. I am still bathing him but I see a big difference.
I wanted to treat him in a greener way, but didn't have luck this time."
01/09/2012: Maegan from Mocksville, Nc replies: "In regards to your "baby" darting out the door.... Read Tamar Gellers book "The Loved Dog Method" or watch her dvd it really works and quickly too!!!"
02/01/2012: Bob from Beijing, China replies: "Suggest "dog whisperer" Cesar Milan national geographic for the bolting out the door and other behavior issues.Suggest "give your dog a bone" "BARF" raw diet for overall wholesome health and to detox the skin.
Our two schnauzers have done great!"

[YEA] 08/19/2009: Deb from Harrisburg, Pa writes: "ACV is wonderful! My Shih Tzu was suffering with his allgeries this year. He lost all the hair off his ears. It must be the new area I am living in. A new hot spot was breaking out everyday. Well, I gave him a bath, then used 1 cup of ACV to a gallon of water.
He slept peacefully that night. Since then I have applied a half and half mixture of water and ACV using a spray bottle on his hot spots and around his ears. The areas of his skin are almost healed. I could not beleive how fast it took after the bath.
I tried using the spray mixture a day or two befor the bath, that did not have the same affect. Be sure to bath the dog first using the ACV mix last then rinse it off.
I am still spraying him every day. He doesn't really like it especially. But all the redness has left.
I am recommending this site to all my friends!
I also tried another remedy that worked for dog coughs, 1 tbl honey, 3 drops of peroxide and 1 cup of water. the cough vanished."
Replies10/18/2009: China from Hong Kong, China replies: "Does it have to be unpasturized ACV, the kind with the "mother"? Or can I use the cheap pasturized kind for food, to give my dog the bath rinse? My lab has a bad bacterial infestation that is taking a long time to heal because he keeps scratching/ biting off the scabs. I'm looking for something that can stop the itch while it heals, and I thought maybe I can give him an ACV rinse everyday, but it could get pricey if I need to use the pasturized kind. He wears a cone during the day, but I wish there's a skirt version of the cone to prevent the back legs from scratching!"
[YEA] 08/11/2011: Christy from Fair Oaks, Ca replies: "I just wanted to say that I have a shit-zu that I got when she was 1&1/2.she was surrenderd due to allergies. Thoughout the years I tried EVERYTHING... Every quality food and even things made with a novel protien source like kangaroo and bush baby. she would either have a reaction within a few hours or be ok for a couple days then really react bad. I have even made her food myself from things like goat. Like most others here docs always just said its allergies. So we do the whole protocal of meds. Allergies would always come back.I think she has been doing the yougert/probiotic and Apple Cider Vinegar spray on her coat for a week now and shes a different dog. Shes ALWAYS had hot spots and flaky skin with sores on it. And her skin was always red like a tomato and hot, now it alsmost as pale as mine!!! No flakes, no sores. I have her on nonstarchy veggies & olive oil right now with calcium added and in another week I will try a high quality single source food and see how she does. Its such a relief to see her enjoy her life and not just itch/scratch and chew herself raw. I AM SO ANGRY THAT NO VET EVER KNEW ABOUT YEAST!!!
I am going to print out the info here and take her to see her vet to get groomed in a few weeks and show them how great she looks. She has almost died twice from alleregy meds like atopica and ketochenazole(spelled phoneticly) and to think it was all needless. I aslo soak her feet in epsom salts and baking soda mix every other day for 10 min. I thought id do this since her feet were always the worst. Then I spray the acv/h2o mixture on her and just rub it in. Aslo im bathing her in tea tree shampoo since its anti fungal(once a week bath).
Oh and that site the great dane lady has a homemade remedy for ear that sounds great and I will be using that soon. Just google great dane lady and you will find her. She has a whole protocal for the yeast thing and tells you what veggies and meats are ok to use and which ones arent. She also says the thyroid need to be tested since they cant get over the yeast if their thyriod messed up. I am sooo greatful for this site. My molly has suffered all her life-shes 14 now, and now she can have some itch free years. She seems perkier and more spunky too after staring this protocal. Darn those vets who just take our money over and over, .... I mean if I was a vet and I had dogs who just were on this merrygoround, I would certinly spend time doing research to see what else I could offer my clients, wouldnt you?but I guess its like ppl docs, they only know what theyve been taught and who sponsers med schools? big pharma. So they only learn wha the drug pushers only want them to know. Thank goddess for the internet.... thank you earth clinic...."

[YEA] 07/31/2009: Sandy from Belmont, North Carolina writes: "I've tried everything for my Yorkies, they scratch & bite all over all day, I've tried Tea tree oil with some help, but Now I Have Found the REMEDIE!!!!
Give you dog a bath with a good shampoo, put it on washcloth, thats makes it great for washing, face, belly, butts, they will love it. Then rinse, condition if needed, rinse again with clean warm water, make sure to rinse, belly, feet, and botton well, don't leave standing dirty water in bath on feet.let water run out of tub.
Then take a CUP & 1/2 of apple cider vinegar in a gallon of clean warm water, it might take more than a gallon, mix correct, rinse all areas, don't forget feet, try not to get in eyes, this will stop RED SPOTS, SCRATCHING & BITING FEET. Plus will make coat soft & shiney. Plus mix a spray bottle,1/2 ACV & 1/2 Water, to spray if itching between baths!!!!"

[QUESTION] 06/25/2009: Nancy from Rowlett, TX writes: "I need help! My little terrier mix is miserable when allergy season comes to Texas. He scratches, his ears get all thick & lumpy inside...with all that dark gook in them. His eyes are also kind of glazed looking. He chews his paws constantly. When I have taken him to the doc...he gives me 2 types of pills, gives him an antihistamine shot...then charges me 80.00. My husband was laid off last month, so I do not have the money to take him to the vet, but I know he is miserable. I read some of your comments that ACV should not be used if it is a yeast infection...which I think is what is in his ears....can I bathe him in the ACV solution & put a generic type of yeast infection cream in his ears? I am really trying to find some more natural & less expensive ideas. Thanks to all!"
Replies06/25/2009: afghanhound911 from San Francisco, CA replies: "We have had a horrible case of the itchy witchies this allergy season. Everyone of our guys has been itching, scratching and all have flakey skin and 2 have had chronic ear infections.
First I tried switching their diet to a high quality non grain food, no luck. I then found a site that recommended rinsing in a 50% water & 50% Raw Apple Cider Vinegar solution. I first bathed them with an Aloe and Tea Tree shampoo followed with the rinse (leaving on for approx 5 min) rinse well and apply an oatmeal conditioner (again, rinse well).
After the first bath we had some residual flaking but less itching. We repeated the proceedure 2 weeks later and I am happy to say that the flakiness is all gone and itching is minimal. In addition we are now feeding a white fish & sweet potatoe kibble supplemented with extra virgin olive oil.
For the first time in MONTHS, we are one big happy itch free family!"
07/25/2009: Susan from Kaneohe, HI replies: "the yeast infection in the ear is candida...the best natural way to completely eliminate it is with garlic. My son who is now 17, when he was a baby he had food allergies & constantly sick with ear infections. I went through the normal course of the pediatrician & ended up having him on different antibiotics for over a year. He developed a severe case of candida. I took him to an homeopathic doctor who tested him for the food allergies. I had read about candida & learned about the garlic which I gave to him everday in a pill form crushed up. Because of the severity it took nearly 6 months before it was completely gone. He has never had it again. This also works for your pets. I buy the already peeled whole garlic from Costco's & using a chopper add it to the dry Costco brand dog food along with olive oil for their coats & joints. It helps eliminate the fleas, they have no worms or intestinal parasites."
11/29/2009: Helen from Fort Macleod, Ab replies: "Be careful about giving your dogs garlic. I hear a lot of people doing this, but garlic is actually toxic to dogs. If you do this, please do so very sparingly. You can go on the internet and check out things toxic to dogs. Thank you"

I get the pills and smash them up and put them in chicken or wet dog food (natural and grain free). It got her off of all the meds from the vet! And she is a happy, drug free, little girl!"

Are you getting your Herbs through a vet? I know, as my vet told me, there are Herbs out there but one has to be careful what we get. I am glad you pet is doing well."

I have taken him to the vet several times, spent tons of money on shampoos, sprays, creams, special food and NOTHING has helped. I came across this website and it suggested using Apple Cider Vinegar for hot spots and allergies. I thought, "why not?" and tried it on Baxter. I used an old water bottle (12 oz) and filled it half with water and half with ACV. I took a few paper towels, soaked it and started wiping Baxter down. Within minutes, he stopped itching and he has been able to rest and not scratch all the time. Thank you SO much for this amazing advice! Baxter is no longer miserable and when he's happy, I'm happy, and so is my wallet!"

I was living in Northern California for a year, before that, we came from the Santa Clarita Valley(southern cali)-both drastic levels of heat and moisture. When we moved to san francisco, she was doing great. She loved the clean air, and i took her on hikes alot. i had to move back to the LA area for the last year and a half, and since ive been back, she not only hyperventalates alot more then usual (when she gets excited, like alot of small dogs, she'll do this when i get home), but her eyes are constantly watery. If i dont clean under her eyes every single day, by the 3rd day, there is quite a lot of hard dark goop. i feel its abnormal. shes 8 years old, and I really want to help her. Im going to try the ACV treatement, but I need exact measurements. can anyone help me?"

03/24/2009: Erin from Uniontown, OH, USA writes: "Hello! My 2 1/2 year old female cat has been over licking and chewing her skin. This has been going on for some time and she has now finally licked all of the hair off on one side of her body. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that she also had white, crusty "cradle cap" dandruff on her backside right above her tail. This morning the dandruff looking stuff had been licked or chewed off and now it is all irritated and red with pus and no hair. It is almost bleeding! Since money is tight, I decided to try some home remedies first before taking her to the vet. This site has been very helpfull!!! I had no idea what to do until I found it. So far I have put a little Apple Cider Vinegar in her water, wiped her side down with it and bought some grain free cat food. I also stupidly put some ACV on her fresh wounds on her backside... she yowled at me and ran away to hide. I felt bad cause it must have hurt, so I gently put some oil on the wounds, (just regular old cooking oil). I also fed her a small amount of tuna with the oil in it. Does anyone have any other suggestions??? How long will the new food and ACV take before I see any difference?? Thanks!"
Replies04/01/2009: Shea from Mobile, AL replies: "My dog has multiple allergies, and developed a horrible inflamed bald spot late last summer. I believe it was from either an insect bite or contact with a plant, as after much research it didn't seem to fit the descriptions of mange. I gently scrubbed the area with plain warm water (to remove the scales), then applied undiluted tea tree oil twice a day. Within a few days the redness and scaling were gone and the skin was smooth and healthy, and within about 10 days the hair started growing back. He seemed to love the gentle scrubbing :)
Best of luck"

Unfortunately I haven't seen any major improvement. I don't think his itch is any less than when we first started giving him the acv. I've read testimonials on this site swearing by the product's wonder medicine for their pet's allergy. My question is how long will it take before the acv actually works for him. I've been spraying it on his skinlike the article suggested-where he always scratches but to it doesn't seem to hhelp. I'm hopeful it will eventually heal his allergy however I need to know how much longer will it take. I put it in his food too.
Hope to hear from you soon regarding this matter.
From a desperate puppy mom,

[NAY] 08/03/2008: Nadia from Brooklyn, NY writes: "Apple cider vinegar should not be used if a yeast allergy is present! This is obvious in retrospect because yeast is used to ferment the apple cider.
I introduced this to my dog by adding 1/2 mL of organic apple cider vinegar to his food on the first day and 1 mL on the second day, and rather than relieving his mild allergy symptoms it induced a full allergy attack (head to toe hot, pink, itchy skin, severely itchy paws, ears, and muzzle)."

I've tried everything....medicinal sprays, ointments, special shampoos, socks, washing with and hairdryer on low, antibiotic, and the list goes on.
In desperation, I searched various website, but (they are mostly selling something) and found yours. Your suggestion (simple and safe) I thought so I tried it. It was 2:30 in the morning when I found your remedy, and wouldn't sleep anyway for the licking, licking he was doing only making it worse and throwing up from all the medication he licked off when he pulled the socks off. I had some APV in the pantry. I dissolved 1/4 cup in pint of water. I first washed and rinsed squeaky clean what was left on his feet from medication. I held his paws over the sink and poured the solution on his feet one-by-one. I could actually see the inflamation disappearing and the swelling going down. Could this be possible!? Am I seeing things I want to see and believe this will work! You bet it did!!!! I put some APV disolved in water in a spray bottle just in case he starts licking again.
He hasn't and slept through the night. Me, too.
I am very grateful and wish i found your site sooner. Needless to say, I'm happy and so is my Yorkie and I can't thank you enough!"

[YEA] 01/29/2008: Arif Jinha from Carleton Place, Canada writes: "Our cat was suffering from raw patches of skin and loss of fur, and one spot that likely started from scratches from the other two cats that she had licked raw to the point that it was a scarlet red wound, slightly crusted with a lot of hair loss. We used a few drops in the water, and sponged the affected areas with ACV. In less than two days, we are happy to say her skin is healing, her coat is healthier-looking and the bad scratch has begun to heal, no more brigh red. miraculous! I tried to find any journal articles from peer-reviewed veterinary medicine journals but could not! We were even advised by a pharmacist that using ACV was a silly idea. This has convinced me that we really have a problem in the way traditional science evaluates these remedies. So many anecdotes of success, but researchers ignore it! thanks!!"

[YEA] 01/01/2008: Colleen from Pinetown, South AFrica writes: "ACV CURED MY DOGS OF SCRATCHING THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for a wonderful site. I'm a Yorkie mom, who dreamed of having a Yorkie with a show coat. My two babies scratch so much that they have severly damaged their coats, and I'd all but given up on ever having long-haired Yorkies. That's till I doscovered this site. Last night, I bathed both my babies and used ACV in the final rinse water, and within 15 minutes I noticed a marked reduction in the scratching. Within the hour, the scratching had diminised by about 80%. Tonight I bathed they again, using ACV in the final rinse water, and the scratching has completely stopped. I was not sure what quantity to use, so I used 2 tot measures in about 2 litres of water. What a miracle find. By the way, the scratching was NOT as a result of fleas, as I spend a small fortune at the vet each month to keep the fleas under control, but if ACV helps with that too, then I'll be saving so much money. I've also read on your site that ACV promotes hair growth, so who knows, I may have a show-coat Yorkie after all. Furthermore, their coats are shining like mirrors!!! This truly is an amazing find, and I'm so grateful for your site and the information contained therrein. Thanks again for a wonderful site, and keep up the good work."

It has gotten to the point that he scratches all his hair off his neck and he has scabs all over the area. He does not have fleas. I have tried every pet spray, wipes, drops there is. I did not want to take him to the vets, only because to him, it is tramatic and I can't stand to see this cat act like he does at the vets, and I did not want him to be on any steroid treatment. So looking on the web one night hoping to find a "miracle" for this cats condition, I stumbled across something about apple cider vinegar. I decided I would try it, what could it hurt? I decided to put a few drops in his water and mark his water bowl to see if he drank any. I was never so excited when I came home from work and found out that not only did he drink some of his water, but the scratching and CONSTANT licking has stopped!!! I came home to a very playful, happy cat. I am thankful I read about apple cider vinegar. Don't be afraid to try it.....it really works and its very safe to use on animals!!!!"
