APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, ACIDOPHILUS

[YEA] 08/21/2008: Traci from New York, USA writes: "I had a horrible itch due to an allergy to latex and then I got my period right after having sex so it was so much worse. then...I woke up and realized I had been scratching in my sleep. The next morning, the lips and c litoral hood were swollen horribly and it burned and itched. I went to get monistat for seven days, it barely took away the itch. Then I went for acidopholus pills which helped then i started bathing and dabbing with vinegar. After four days of this, the internal itch is gone and the external itch is minimal. I decided to take a few teaspoons of ACV today and I feel good rightnow. I will write back tomorrow to let you all know how well its working. It's just this nagging external itch every so often that bugs me now...are there any other suggestions for this?"

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, COCONUT OIL

[YEA] 11/13/2008: Bri from Baltimore, MD writes: "Coconut oil softgels and acv tablets cured my yeast infection. Take a 200mg acv tablet at the beginning of each meal and again at bedtime. Insert a coconut oil softgel in the vagina at bedtime or when you can be comfortably laying down (lounging) and 1 tbsp VIRGIN coconut oil 3x daily. The coconut oil is an antifungal and eliminates dryness, and the acv creates a hostile environment for the yeast. Get the softgel and acv tablet @ swansonvitamins.com. Bathing in and douching with acv in addition to above treatment is great while symptoms are accute, as is consuming yogurt and/or probiotics 2x daily while doing the acv/coconut oil treatment."

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, H202, CASTOR OIL

[YEA] 09/25/2008: Eleny from Graham, WA writes: "My son recently had a horrible yeast infection on his bottom. I did not notice it right away because it was right on the outside of his anus. The reason I did not notice it right away is because he had not been passing regular bowel movements and I had no need to wipe him there. I was giving him his bath and wiping him when I first noticed it. At first I thought it was feces but it would not come off and when I looked he had what looked like a horrible case of acne that was about to pop. Initially I thought it was a diaper rash but soon realized it was not. I took him to the doctors office the following morning and the doctor said that he had a yeast infection and prescribed some ointment. I was honest and told the doctor that I would not try the ointment until I tried a natural alternative first. I then went home and applied diluted Bragg's Organic ACV on a cotton square and wiped him and also put some H202 on another cotton square and applied that to the infected area. I then decided to use Castor oil because of the many health benefits it has when applied to the skin onto the yeast and I kid you not within a 24 hour period the infection was COMPLETELY gone! And believe it or not since I have used the Castor Oil on his bottom he has been passing bowel movements regularly. Check out this great article on the wonderful benefits of Castor Oil when applied to the skin

[YEA] 12/30/2008: Shaye from Baldwyn, Mississippi writes: "I woke up in so much pain Sunday morning, i knew i had a full blown yeast infection. i got on your web site and found out about the apple cider vinager and salt and quickly did as several had stated how to use the viniger. it was wonderful!! i did the douch twice a day and the bath twice a day, i also took 2000 mg of Garlic softgel three times a day, i got better but it didnt go away, this morning, of Tuesday i got up with the itching and burning in three spots that have really been hard to heal, this time i put three or four tea spoons of the acv in the douch bottle and i poked a hole in two of the garlic softgels and put that in the bottle w/ the acv, added warm water and shook it well, the acv dries up the skin so much "down there' but the softgels have soybean oil in them, so that helps that problem. i soaked about 10 min. longer and dried off and poked a hole in two more garlic softgels, i use spring valley from wal mart, i rubbed this stuff into the area and there was instant relief. this is the first time in days i had no meds on my "area" and i have no pain! Thank You!! i will do this until this is gone!!"

AVOID SPERMICIDES

[YEA] 06/23/2008: Shelley from Los Angeles, California writes: "After years of crying in the doctor's office trying to figure out why I was getting recurring yeast infections, I read a small study done about the added spermicide in condoms. As soon as my boyfriend and I stopped using the condoms with spermicide I never had another yeast infection. It's been 4 years. When I asked my doctor about this, he made me think it was a crazy idea. I was tired of paying so much money on doctor visits and so much money on otc yeast infection remedies. A simple change solved everything."

[YEA] 01/24/2009: Bev from Long Beach, CA/USA writes: "I had 2 bouts of vaginal yeast over 35 years ago. At that time there was no such thing as vaginal creams, etc. My doctor recommended a baking soda douche in the morning and at night (1 T per douche). That was the only thing that relieved the itching. I didn't continue long enough to cure the infection so it came back. This time I used it longer and it has never returned. I used the white vinegar douche years ago too just to stay clean. Never ACV. Hope this helps."

Well it really does. I've been using this remedy for many years now with no adverse reactions. If you do it gently, it should not cause problems, just wash out the vagina. BORIC ACID

01/19/2012: Fabygm from Houston, Tx writes: "I suffered from yeast infections for years due to my poor diet and the fact that I was young and clueless as to how to help myself rid of them. Thanks to a wonderful doctor who finally stopped the horrid cycle of Pain by prescribing me boric acid suppositories. I had to find a compounding pharmacy to make them for me then I inserted one vaginally before hoing to bed on a Tuesday and again one on Friday and they are gone forever! I wish I had saved myself all those years of pain and wasting money on that stupid ink pill! I actually had candidiasis which is when yeast literally uproots into your body and it is very hard to get rid of it, as I said I had this got at least 6 years about once or twice a week until the boric acid. It's been 10 years and I never had a yeast infection again, tell your doctor to give you a prescription."
Replies01/29/2012: Mechanoid Monster from San Diego, Ca replies: "That is so wonderful!! Congrats :)I've had a yeast infection at least once a month for the past six months. I've used Monistat and Diflucan to get rid of the infection but they ALWAYS come back. It seems they started when I began the Depo shot in combination with cycling more than usual. I've gone off the Depo and the yeast infections are less frequent BUT still once a month. I don't use scented soaps and get out of my cycling/workout clothes immediately after.
SOoo I just bought some boric acid, hoping it'll cure this stupid infection that's inside me. My doctor mentioned boric acid to me as well but didn't give me any specifics. So yours told you to do one boric acid suppository then another three days later? I'm definitely trying that as soon as I get the boric acid in the mail.
Thank you! "
02/02/2012: Mechanoid Monster from San Diego, California replies: "Ok so an update!I'm on my 2nd night of boric acid suppositories and I feel amazing. It's not harsh at all for me and my vagina looks and feels completely better. I'm only going to do 2 nights because I just got off 2 pills (with three days in between a pill) of Diflucan which cured the infection about halfway.
I'm so happy to notice a difference in just one night. Before my vagina was very dry and flaking (which I attributed to the end of the yeast infection and possibly to BV :/) now it is all normal! I'm also taking 800mg of Folic acid and 2 multi-strain probiotics.
Fingers crossed!!!!"
02/07/2012: Soraya from Oakland, Ca replies: "I am totally hoping this works. I have been going through this for such a long time and it actually depresses me. I no longer have a period and many say my hormones have alot to with it. [YEA] 10/16/2011: Shampoo from Los Angeles, Ca replies: "Hey. I have been struggling with yeast infection my entire life. Pretty much everytime I have sex, I get one, its so awful, and I have tried everything under the sun over the years to try to help me feel, normal, down there.Boric acid works! However, Boric acid is very strong, and very drying and traumatizing to the tissues even after 2 days of using it, so heres what I do, to get the effects while lessening the dryness, irritation, and sometimes bleeding factor of using the 00 empty gel cap boric acid inserted in the vagina everyday for a week issue. The first day of my yeast infection, I'll put one capsule up in there, and maybe even do it again, the second day. But by the third day, I open a capsule, wet my 2 fingers with water, and sprinkle the boric acid, on my fingers. Then lay down over a towel and insert, and I try to distribute evenly up in there, (I know, graphic and gross) but when your desperate to get rid of this thing, it wont matter. Then I wash my hands, dry them, the sprinkle tea tree oil on my fingers and do it again. It feels very cooling, and medicinal and your flowers will feel back to normal in about 4 to 5 days of doing this every night. You can even have sex during this treatment, because the tissues arent dried out, like if you were using the capsules.
You guys, Ive tried everything, EVERYTHING. I use to use these herbal suppositories, (cant say the name on here) but you can purchase them on amazon. Com, which contain Boric acid, and tea tree oil, as the main ingredients, and they worked. But them they changed the formula, and removed the boric acid, which was the main ingredient that really worked in there, and everyone started to complain. So, Im essentially recreating that suppository. I've tried tea tree oil on its own twice a day to cure and infection, and its a pain, and it doesnt always work. However, inserting a bit of tea tree oil in the vag rite after sex, is an awesome preventative. I also take a good expensive multi strain probiotic everyday, and that has prevented future UTI's aswell. Anyways, its all about Boric acid, but it is very strong, and harsh, but it does work"

[YEA] 09/16/2010: Elusia from Boston, Ma writes: "I'm in my mid-30's and suddenly got a raging yeast infection about a month ago. Actually, it wasn't really suddenly - I think I'd had a low-lying infection for about 18 months because I was having terrible rectal itching at night (or itchy butt syndrome as folks here like to call it! ). Finally it turned into the real thing, and I was trying everything - oregano oil, coconut oil, the Monistat 7-day treatment. Nothing worked. So, I went off all carbs and have been eating only veggies and chicken/turkey and eggs. I also started taking high potency probiotics (50 billion/capsule, 2 capsules am and pm). And I added in the boric acid - 1 600 mg (00) pill that I fill myself with the powder I got from my compounding pharmacy. I've been doing it every night for 9 nights and plan to keep on doing it for 5 more. I also went out and bought all cotton panties. My goal has been to rid myself of this wretched thing before I get married next weekend and head to Hawaii for 2 weeks. I was determined to kick this thing before then - and so far it's worked. I'm not up all night because of the itching - in fact the itching is gone completely. I'm not ready to claw myself to pieces after intercourse. And no more discharge. I'm a happy gal after finding this site. Thanks to you all for giving me a happy honeymoon!"

[YEA] 09/21/2009: Dee from Charlotte, Nc writes: "I am a 27 year old female who has suffered from a raging yeast infection for the past six months. I tried everything, and I mean EVERYTHING to get rid of this infection and it would not go away. I took the one-dose diflucan pills three times and used a prescription cream once. These treatments used to help, but this time they did nothing. I then turned to alternative meds. At one time, I was taking oil of oregano drops, pau d'arco drops, garlic pills, capyrilic acid pills, doing apple cider vinegar douches, and following a low sugar/bread diet. This did not alleviate my symptoms at all. I had basically given up hope at this point and the yeast infection was seriously affecting my sexual relationship with my husband. I was sore and itchy all of the time and I had a serious amount of discharge. I tried the boric acid suppositories as a last resort. I had been afraid to use them before because of toxicity of the boric acid. After thoroughly researching, though, I realized that they were only toxic when taken internally and not intravaginally. Well, I bought the boric acid powder at the pharmacy (it was difficult to track down though, you might find it easier to order it from Amazon.com) and I actually used grapeseed extract capsules to fill. I just opened the capsules and dumped out the grapeseed extract and filled them with boric acid powder. This was MUCH cheaper than buying the empty capsules and just as effective. Now these capsules may be smaller than the OO empty ones and I also used half of the recommended dosage (one half-full pill every night for two weeks). I was still a little scared when I began the treatment, which is why I used less. I would recommend trying the lower dosage and then increasing the dosage if you respond well to avoid unecessary irritation. Well, within a week, my symptoms had drastically improved. After the two week treatment, my symptoms had disappeared. They later returned after my period and I had to continue treatment for another week (same low dosage). For me, the boric acid is more of a treatment than a cure (I often have to resume treatment when the infection returns), but it is the only thing that has given me relief from my symptoms. I am SO glad that I discovered this treatment. Just remember that you cannot take them orally, only as a vaginal suppository. I don't usually write testimonials, but I felt that I had to share this in case anyone found themselves in the same situation that I was in."
Replies11/24/2009: Betty from Salt Lake, Ut, us replies: "Boric Acid is so dangerous! You may be doing long term harm to yourself!!! Boric acid is the MAIN ingredient in many roach and rat killers!
Regardless of which way you take it... that is definitely taking your life into your own hands. You mention boric acid was difficult to track down... if you go to the grocery store or the hardware store and ask for Boric Acid, they will lead you to the pest control area. I'm not joking about this!
People could DIE from the results of reading this post if they try this!!! Good grief! You are essentially telling people to put ROACH POISION up their vagina!!!
This is so dangerous!!
Tell your Doctor you're taking boric acid and see what he or she has to say about that.
I'm all about homeopathic remedies.. but this one is absolutely ridiculous and dangerous.
Do a look up on wiki-pedia to see what they have to say.
I write this out of concern for your well being and the well being of others."
[WARNING!] 11/24/2009: Betty from Salt Lake City, Ut replies: "I did some research after seeing this posting about Boric Acid for yeast infections. There are laboratories that create supplements for yeast infections that contain boric acid, however, they are done in a lab.
I am VERY concerned about the posting on earth clinic by Dee from Charlotte, NC. She is telling her story about creating her own boric acid supplements.
This is NOT SAFE AT ALL. There is all the difference in the world between buying professional supplements and someone creating their own.
I did some research and found there are pro lab grade pills that people can purchase, however it is NOT RECOMMENDED that people create their own!
Boric Acid is extremely poisonous and can be lethal.
I think this is a case where someone was intending to pass on helpful information, however, is passing on the wrong information and this could be very hazardous to others."
02/16/2010: Fliffles from Brooklyn, Ny replies: "Betty - it is true that boric acid is toxic when ingested, but it is NOT when inserted vaginally. there is plenty of research out there, and many standard gynecologists do recommend this as a solution. i know you mean well by warning people about the toxicity of this compound, but your response is so alarmist it is more scary than helpful. you have to ingest a LOT of boric acid for a lethal dose, but ingesting any amount can definitely lead to sickness. as a vaginal suppository, however, the chemical re-balances the pH in there and makes sure to leave no room for the bad stuff (yeast infections, BV). read up on this a little more before scaring everyone away! this can help a LOT of people!
We all should research the things that we put into our bodies in general, and it is wise to do so."
[YEA] 06/27/2010: Pneumatikos from Carmel, Indiana replies: "Boric Acid has been recommended by doctors for years and has worked well for me. I bought the medical grade powder from a seller on Ebay and used a teaspoon in 8 ounces of water for douche. It does have a drying effect so I use virgin coconut oil to keep moist because it is antifungal.
Boric Acid kills roaches because it dehydrates them when they ingest it. Since I'm not eating or drinking it, I don't see a problem."
05/30/2011: Wisdom71274 from Springfield Gardens, New York, Usa replies: "Dear, Betty from Salt Lake, Ut,First off Wikipedia is a open access public database, which means anyone can post anything on there and it doesn't necessarily mean it is true. In other words it is not a scholarly source. College students are not allowed to use it in their research for that reason.
Second there is validity to what you're saying about the boric acid acid being dangerous but do the research before replying. It is safe to use for the purpose of yeast infections.
Lastly, you wrote that you are all for natural cures (homeopathic medicine). Homeopathy is based on similars. Therefore the treatments are like the problem or illness. One of the main ingredients in many homeopathic preperations is ARSENIC."
12/23/2011: Dee from Wixom, Michigan replies: "Sorry Betty. Dr. Jack Sobel, a leading BV specialist and an infectious disease specialist at Wayne State University, MI with a thriving personal practice of booked clinics prescribes 600 mg '00' boric acid gelatin capsules as a treatment for BV that doesn't respond to drug therapy and for chronic yeast infections (it kills both). Initial treatment involves two capsules, one morning and one night for one week. His clinical research is widely published and greatly respected. He is an authority on a subject that clearly needs greater attention in the medical community.Compounding pharmacies call this 'an oldie but goodie' remedy for vaginal bacterial infections and those who cannot take azole drugs for yeast infections. It's been used for some time and the medical contradictions are only for those who use it incorrectly (do not ingest it) which is far less than ALL the side effects associated with the current drug therapies. It is well documented in the drug accomanying literature that the most commonly prescribed anti-fungal fluconazole (brand name Diflucan) damages the liver at high enough concentrations from prolonged use and anyone who has taken the antibiotics for BV can attest to the long list of nasty side effects and recurrence.
You wouldn't drink a glass of pure bleach, but to make contaminated water safe to drink, it is added to kill bacteria. This is much the same. Take vaginally; do NOT ingest by mouth."

[YEA] 06/22/2009: Leila from Lilburn, Georgia writes: "Boric acid suppositories cured my yeast infection. I've always had occasional minor infections on my skin, but shortly after I started having sex and got on birth control, I begin to get vaginal yeast infections. At first the cream worked, but the infection returned. Then then doctor prescribed a single fluconazole pill, which had the same effect. Then, I returned for a week long treatment of the high dose pills, also helping only to have it return later. Eating yogurt and using the yogurt douche as a preventative only temporarily helped. Soon I had a raging infection, including thrush and sore joints, that seemed incurable. The "spit test" confirmed it was a bad one (spit into a cup of water beside your bed first thing when you wake up. If "legs" or strings form down from the spit immediately then it's BAD. Floating debris can indicate an infection too. Look it up.) Going off birth control was my absolute last option and a no sugar or bread diet just wasn't working, but these doctors visits were expensive and ineffective so far. Instead, I decided to use the boric acid suppositories that a friend told me about. I used 600mg at night for 12 days (I meant to do 14) and so far it's worked well. I plan on doing it twice a week preventatively and I'm also taking an over-the-counter probiotic on top of yogurt to help with keeping the systemic yeast in check."

[YEA] 01/20/2009: Allie from New York, New York writes: "I used to take antibiotics orally for 3 years as part of an acne regimen. Now when I need antibiotics, they don't work for me. I came back from a 4 month trip to the carribean with a raging yeast infection that nothing would help. I also had a kidney infection at one point and everyone refused to see a connection. With the help of doctors who actually listen, I found a plan that WORKS.
First, birth control contributes to yeast. If you take it, get off of it, at least for a few months. Antibiotics will not work for yeast! Yeast is fungal, antibiotics kill bacteria, not fungi, and there is a huge difference. Maintaining a diet that is high in vegetables and low in or void of bread and sugar. Yeast survive on what you put into your body. They looove sugar and bread. This includes alcohol, too. Alcohol turns into sugar... Finally, BORIC ACID capsules saved my live! By maintaining a yeast free-sugar free diet and using boric acid vaginal suppositories for 2 months, I am 95% clear. Talk to a doctor about using boric acid. It is safe, natural, and won't affect the balance of your body's natural good bacteria.
Fixing this problem is about restoring a balance of healthy bacteria in your body, not killing all of them with antibiotics. I took 4 rounds of antibiotics for treatment and it only made my symptoms hide for months! If you are headstrong and willing to get rid of this forever, change your diet and use boric acid!"

[YEA] 07/06/2008: Laura from Sarasota, FLORIDA writes: "Many years ago, a gynecologist suggested that I use Boric Acid to end my yeast infection. At the time, Monistat, etc, creams were only available with a prescription. I followed her advice with immediate releief. I went to the drugstore and bought a small jar of Boric Acid, which was a white powder, plus I bought some empty glycerin capsules. These had to be special ordered by the pharmacist at the time, but I see them in the drug stores all the time now. I filled the capsules with the boric powder by pushing both ends of the capsule into the powder until it was crammed with the powder, then I pushed both ends of the capsule together to close it. The capsules were NOT injested orally, although it seems now that i may have been able to do this, but instead, they were inserted into my vagina at night, just as you would the Monostat cream. I never knew how many capsules to insert or for how long, and since the name of the product was boric ACID, I was afraid to use too much for fear of burning my interior skin. After that, I rarely got yeast infections, and when I did, this remedy always worked, and for far far less money than going to the doctor and getting a prescription.
I also learned that boric acid is used to get rid of insects and cockroaches ...sprinkle it around the perimeters of the base boards or window sills, ect, anywhere where you see the critters exiting or entering. It's worth a try and not toxic for humans."

I tried boric acid suppositories after reading a rave about them in a diy health guide. I used 600 mg gel caplets and filled them with boric acid (cheap!) I obtained from an out of a way drug store. I used one every morning and evening for two weeks. I couldn't believe the difference. While creams and prescriptions took forever and sometimes made me feel worse, boric acid provided almost instantaneous relief and cleared things up right away. I highly recommend! "

I've had yeast infections that were never cured with otc medications. In desperation I tried boric acid capsules and it worked. Now it is all I use. Much cheaper than otc meds and it works much better! It's kind of a pain to put the capsules together every night, but it's worth it. You'll have to find the boric acid at the drug store and then 00 capsules at the health food store. Insert every night for two weeks. Do the full course otherwise your infection might come back. Just wanted to share because this is a natural cure that really really works!"

One night when she was red, irritatted and not wantting to urinate because of the burn, I remember and article I had read about boric acid. At seven she didn't like the cream monostat because it felt "yucky". I filled my old sitz bath wth warm water. I disolved two tsp boric acid in a cup of boiling water from the microwave. I dumped it in the water along with about a 1/3 cup withc hazel (for discomfort). Within about 3 minutes she was feeling relief and wanted to go to bed. I did this the next three nights and she is now 13 and has not been bothered with yeast there since, PTL.
For myself and boric acid I do something easier than capsule, I take a soda straw and and shuff it down in the boric acid and drop it in the end of an old applicator I keep along with a little cortizone for quick relief and easy application. Also, did you know that athlete's foot cure is also either miconsole or chlortiromozol as AF is a yeast infection. It's also cheaper to buy than the packaged vaginal yeast infection cure."

Went to the OBGYN and she suggested that when I feel the slightest burn or itch that I put 1/2 cup of boric acid into a tub of slightly hot water about 2 inches deep and sit for 15 to 20 minutes before bed. She said that this would neutralize the inbalance of PH in the vagina. She said do this every night until infection is gone. (for about a week)"

[YEA] 06/29/2007: Melissa from Madison, WI writes: "Boric Acid has been a great remedy for my vaginal yeast infections. If you have BV it is not as good for a long-term solution. You may want to take an antibiotic cure and then use boric acid as a later treatment to prevent a yeast infection.
One thing though, if you want to really rid yourself of yeast infections, just remember to use the boric acid the whole span of treatment or else the infection will come back. Also NEVER ingest boric acid because it is toxic if ingested!
I was recommended to use it straight as a suppository for a full week, then stagger it every other night, then after a week of that stagger it every two nights, etc; until you don't use it at all.
Boric acid is antibacterial, but it doesn't kill the strains as well as antibiotic medicines (like metronidazole).
I am very excited to try the folic acid tx for my BV. I'll let you know if it works for me!"

[YEA] 05/03/2007: Caren from New York, NY writes: "I had a yeast infection for a whole year, and took Monistat, which didn't work. Then was told by a girlfriend to go to DuaneReade and buy Boric Acid powder. Then go to a health food store or order online to try to find empty caplets. You put the powder in the individual capsules, which is tricky to do, but so worth it. Then I insert it with finger as far up as I can, and try to do this quickly, because if the capsule gets wet and soft, it's harder to do. Your vagina needs to be a certain ph level in order to be healthy. Using the boric acid restores it to normal levels again. Anytime I feel a yeast infection coming on, I put a capsule in. It's worked for me every single time. And if I still feel the yeast infection, I will use a capsule the next day as well. It's good to put it in at night time, so that it stays in there, doesn't fall out. Maybe you could also use vitamin C in the same way? I'm not sure, I will have to look into this. The last time I had a yeast infection though, I stupidly did a vinegar douche, and gave myself Bacterial Vaginosis. I forgot to do the boric acid. I probably forgot because it's been a whole year since I've had one! Anyhow, usually a vinegar douche does the trick, but they warn you right on the box that douching can bring on infections, and sure enough it happened to me. So be careful with douching. Better to insert an acidic capsule, because douching will remove all yeast, from your vagina, as well as remove all bad bacteria - and all beneficial bacteria as well! So it can set the stage for more infections! Another problem with douching is that it can push bacteria up into your uterus. This is bad."
