Home remedies for vomiting soothe the stomach and absorb acids and fluids. There are many natural cures, but ginger, in any form, is the most widely-used vomiting cure. Charcoal tablets are an effective treatment, especially for food poisoning, and are used in ERs to absorb toxins. Vomiting is frequently caused by the flu or pregnancy, but there are many other possible explanations. Excessive vomiting results in dehydration, which can be dangerous especially for children.
What causes Vomiting?
Vomiting is often caused by viral gastroenteritis (stomach flu) or morning sickness during the first trimester of pregnancy. Other common causes of vomiting are food poisoning, over-eating, drinking too much alcohol and allergic reactions. Dehydration is a common problem associated with vomiting, particularly for children and older people. Try sipping water, sucking on ice or popsicles or drinks with essential salts. Vomiting seldom indicates a serious problem, but a diagnosis should be sought for the cause of chronic and continuous vomiting.
Natural Remedies for Vomiting
Ginger and mint teas are probably the most well-known and effective natural vomiting cures. Onion juice works very well to cure vomiting, but cannot be tolerated by everyone. Charcoal works as a vomiting cure by absorbing the stomach acids. Nibbling on burnt toast or eating dry crackers alleviates nausea. Cool, damp cloths on the forehead and back of the neck can also be soothing. It is important to replace lost fluids to avoid dehydration.
Ginger is a natural remedy that has been used in Asia, India and the Middle East for centuries. In any form, ginger is one of the most useful natural cures for vomiting and nausea; ginger tea, fresh or candied ginger slices, gingerbread or gingersnaps are all very good for calming an upset stomach and stopping vomiting. Ginger is a natural anti-emetic and excellent for digestion. Ginger ales may or may not contain real ginger; check the label.
Onion Juice and Mint Tea
Onion juice is a natural remedy for vomiting and other problems, including respiratory problems and allergies, and is naturally anti-inflammatory, anti-cholesterol, antioxidant and anti-carcinogenic. Onions boost the immune system with their natural antibiotic properties. Mint tea is a well-known home cure for soothing an upset stomach and improving digestion.
Charcoal tablets are a useful home cure for vomiting. If charcoal tablets are not available, eating a piece of burnt toast is an old-fashioned home treatment for nausea since the burnt toast combines charcoal and dry bread, absorbing acids and fluids. Because charcoal is used in ERs to absorb toxins, it might be a good choice if the vomiting is caused by food poisoning.
Vomiting is experienced by everyone and does not usually indicate a serious problem. Ginger is the most highly-ranked natural remedy for an upset stomach, but there are many home treatments that work. Severe vomiting will cause dehydration; replacing lost fluids is important. Home cures will normally stop the vomiting.

In our home it has been used for nausea/vomiting; diarrhea; upset stomach; belching; heart burn; gas; indigestion; poultices over painful areas on different parts of the body; pasty poultice over insect bites..over the stomach in a poultice for fevers.. As a nurse, I highly recommend it to all."Replies
[YEA] 04/02/2009: Crista from Pekin, IL replies: "I agree with this completely. My husband just had some serious stomach issues. He normally does not vomit in any way, but on the extreme rare occasion it is never good. So this time I had just bought Activated Charcoal just to get rid of toxins and I thought it might work for this. I looked it up on this website and saw that it would work, so I gave him two capsules of Activated Charcoal. He didn't vomit or have any more diarrea, he was doing both and feeling a lot of stomach pain before I gave it to him. He didn't feel purfect afterwards, but he did stop vomiting and diarrea. By the next day he was feeling fine."
[YEA] 12/14/2011: Cameron from Brisbane, Qld, Australia replies: "For Vomiting it works very fast, put a teasponn full in juice, let it sink to the bottom before mixing and drink. My daughter has various reactions to Chemo Drugs and Charcoal has been a life saver.
Also make sure you stay near the toilet or have your sick bag handy, Charcoal Vomit is terrible, it may take up to 3 doses of Charcoal before you can keep it down but it is very effective and will get rid of the Nausea at the same time."
Apple Cider Vinegar
[YEA] 04/05/2012: Morningsun from Hamersley, Perth: "THROWING UP for 5 hours our youngest daughter had this bug. Took 2 tbs of ACV and same amount of water and it has stopped for over an hour and I am unbelievably sitting up able to write this. Thanks to this community and the Lord of course. Even though it's a fallen world, God is gracious...thanks"

Stop Vomiting with Black Tea Natural Cure
Home Remedy Ingredients:
- Black Tea Bags - 2 of them
Brew a cup of black tea using two tea bags to create an extra strong cup of tea (add a teaspoon of honey, if you like). Within a few minutes of sipping the tea, your nausea should vanish.
[YEA] 02/18/2013: Autumn from Portland, Or: "Black Tea with Honey for Vomiting... This is the only thing that I could keep down and eventually stop vomiting. Still have the aches, chills, and fever, but the gut-twisting agony is over so I can finally rest. Thanks for posting this- it's a lifesaver!"
[YEA] 01/07/2013: Young Wife from Usa: "My husband has been throwing up about every 30 minutes for the past 5 hours. He asked for water - wouldn't stay down. I tried Gatorade - also wouldn't stay down. And that made me nervous because Gatorade has always worked! So I started browsing the web and came across this site. I found 1 bag of black tea in our pantry and made a small pot with it. I let it steep for a long while. I gave him a small mug and made him drink it in small sips. (I also had him slowly eat a tiny piece of crystallized ginger. ) He almost immediately threw up again. But! I think it was residual - from the Gatorade or something. The reaction was too quick. So I had him take just 1 more small sip and put a cold compress on his forhead. And he's finally asleep!! He's been alseep and quiet for just about 30 minutes now! Thank you!"
[YEA] 01/30/2012: Amy from Surrey, Bc / Canada: "I had the worst stomach flu for three days with incessant vomiting and dizziness and was sweating and feeling almost like I should be hospitalized. I also had severe diarrhea on and off. I looked up your "how to stop vomiting" website with the thought that probably nothing would actually stop it at the point it was quickly progressing too. I was wrong. I added a slice of ginger and honey to the black tea and it took several sips and probably half and hour but I have NEVER seen anything like it!!! Seriously even gravol couldn't touch it, or ginger tea by itself. Thanks!!!"Replies
[YEA] 02/17/2012: Catherine from Pdx, Oregon replies: "I was sick to my stomach I had headache and nausea for two days. Anyhow I read about black tea I ran to my pantry and brewed the wonder black tea in the tea pot for a five minutes let it cool and drank it I felt better within twenty minutes it was amazing Thanks for the tip helped me so much."
[YEA] 04/03/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia: "I had a bad migraine yesterday and was throwing and feeling very nauseas. I couldn't keep food or drink down (even water). I checked here to see what people recommended and tried honey by itself (did not work), also tried the ACV and baking soda (did not work). I finally tried the black tea suggestion. I put two tea bags of black tea in hot water and let it sit for a short while. I sipped it slowly and did not vomit again and the nausea seemed to go away as well. "Replies
[YEA] 05/25/2011: Berlie from Kcmo, Mo replies: "I agree with all the YEA's for the black tea. I have never heard of this. My mom told me to go get Emuterol to stop the cycle of vomiting, but I just couldn't get out of the house. I read these posts and looked in our cabinet and we just happened to have Lipton black tea flavored with vanilla. I honestly think it has been in there for 5 years. Anyway, I sipped down one coffee mug of it slowly and was able to calm my stomach a bit and keep from throwing up. Next step - trying to eat and I am starting with the BRAT diet ..."
[NAY] 10/17/2011: Lindsey from Sanger, Texas replies: "NEA Unfortunately this remedy did not work for me or my daughter. We both had been vomiting for about 5 hours when I decided to look up ways to stay hydrated and came across this site. I brewed two black tea bags in one cup of water for about 7 minutes till very dark. We each took a few sips for a little while then tried to rest. Both of us continued to have stomach cramps and while I have not vomited again I still feel like I may, and my daughter has continued to vomit."
[YEA] 11/04/2011: Tami from Houston, Tx, Usa replies: "I give black tea a YEA for eliminating vomiting. Thank GOD I found this site and suggestion. I have food poisoning with vomiting and diarrhea for 12 hours now. It was so painful to vomit because there is NOTHING in my body and it was literally gut wrenching pain. Nothing over the counter worked so I asked my husband to go buy some black tea. Well he found 1 tea bag from a hotel or some odd place that I had stashed in the kitchen. I drank it plain and strong and it worked immediately. Now I only have diarrhea and much milder stomach cramps but the painful vomiting is over."
[YEA] 12/19/2008: Heather from APO, AE (Germany): "My daughter was throwing up and could not even keep water down. I made her some black tea and added a teaspoon on raw German honey to it. She has been sipping it and the vomiting has stopped. She was throwing up so bad that nothing was coming up at all. She is also telling me that she feels so much better. I am so glad that I found this site!!!!!"Replies
[YEA] 03/06/2009: Lynn from Gulfport, Florida replies: "Regarding the black tea for vomiting and nausea, I had a case of stomach flu that had me throwing up for four days. I couldn't stop and had the dry heaves. A friend told me to take regular tea bags (not black) and steep three of them in one cup of boiling water and sip it. It was very bitter, but it worked like a charm, and I didn't vomit after my first cup. Tea has a complicated chemistry, and some of the chemicals in tea relax the muscles and nerves."
[YEA] 10/25/2010: Robin from Kansas City, Mo replies: "When I start vomiting, it usually takes over 24 hours to go away. I have the dry heaves and then stomach bile that comes up and its a truly horrible experience. I tried the black tea with a spoonful of honey last night, and it worked!! It was pretty rough going down, but well worth it. I used 2 large tea bags in just a cup of water and a teaspoon of honey. This is the only thing that has ever stopped my vomiting other than phenegren."
[YEA] 01/17/2011: Maritza from Detroit, Michigan replies: "I'm so glad I found this site!! Woke up at 7:00 this morning with terrible stomach cramps and vomiting. The pharmacist recommended Cola Syrup to stop the nausea, but she didn't have anything for the vomiting. Once I found the website, I decided to settle on the black tea. I just brewed three bags of tea in a 12oz cup nice and strong and sipped it untill it was gone. The bitterness really didn't bother me at all. Shortly after finishing the tea, I fell asleep and woke up at noon feeling no stomach upset. It's wonderful! I recommend this to everyone."
[YEA] 02/11/2011: Amanda from Felton, Pennsylvania replies: "Ahah I woke up with the stomach flu at 2am that my sister, Mom, &nd niece all had earlier this week. I have a huge fear of throwing up, so I decided to look for remedies so I wouldn't, &nd I tried the Black tea thing. I was sipping at it for an hour, but it work AHMAZINGLY! I didn't throw up at all. Only bad thing was I couldn't sleep until after 7:30am, and then I only slept for an hour. Plus I couldn't sleep the night before, so that didn't help either. But the tea thing did workk, ((:"
12/16/2011: Katie from Ashville, North Carolina replies: "I have a question ok if you are to throw up then try this remedy how does it get rid of the virus???And will it come back in a couple days or not????"
[YEA] 12/31/2011: Donna from Beavercreek, Or replies: "YEA! I was so sick with vomiting and diarhea. I had dry heaves from 1:15 A. M. - 7 A. M. (which is when I found this site). I was worn out from the dry heaves - my biggest break between episodes had been 25 minutes. I obviously had nothing else to vomit, just froth. After I found this site, my husband placed 3 tea bags in hot water for me - I was anxious to try it and drank a sip - I vomited immediately, but then let it steep for a bit until it was strong - then I drank a sip. No vomiting. Then another sip. This COMPLETELY and IMMEDIATELY elimated my dry heaves. I layed down, drank one or two more sips - then slept. I am now telling everyone about this remedy. It would have been wonderful to know about this earlier. THANK YOU!"
[YEA] 01/18/2012: Audrey from Frederick, Md replies: "I have to say- this helped IMMEDIATELY. I know tea/honey makes a sore throat better- but I never thought to try it for vomitting/diarea... until today. Everyone at work, and at home has been fighting off a stomach bug/flu... today I stayed home cause I wasn't feeling good- and I was right. I coudn't stay out of the bathroom for 3 hours...
Finally a dragged my laptop in with me and between bouts, I found this site. I had black tea and I had raw organic honey.... So I forced myself into the kitchen brewed a strong cup and added two tablespoons of raw organic honey- and instantly the vomiting stopped. It has been about 45 minutes since I finshed the tea, and besides a little bit of gurgling in My tummy- I'm feeling much better. Now I am going to try to take a nap! :)"
[YEA] 03/11/2012: Ashleyj430 from Chicago, Il replies: "Holy smokes! My 8 year old son has been vomiting and dry heaving for the last 7 hours. He started begging me to call our doctor but it is Sunday so then he asked me to "Google" what might help. Found this site and tried making him a big mug of black tea with two bags. He just told me that he has never felt better and no throwing up for the last hour and I hope that it lasts! *fingers crossed*"
01/18/2013: Leigha from Cornwall, Ontario replies: "When I found this I went to make some. Started to feel like I was going to throw up again by the time it was made, drank it so far it's worked and settled my stomach so far but its only been 10 minutes. Hopefully it keeps working. Can't stand this especially when I have to stay home from work cuz I also didn't sleep at all last night."
[YEA] 03/20/2007: Kristina from Waukesha, WI: "Hi, my grandma used to make us drink strong black tea each time we had the flu, as it would stop vomiting and help settle the stomach. I have tried it with green tea as well and it works the same, and usually you don't need more than a few sips before it starts working. Now I don't even wait for the vomiting to start--I go straight for the tea upon first symptoms of the flu.
I have also used this remedy for severe menstrual cramps and diahrrea and those times when painful gas gets in the way of elimination. One time I even tried it for a headache and it went away. Works wonders!"Replies
[YEA] 05/22/2009: Giuseppe from Sacramento, Ca replies: "That worked great! I am a single dad, with a 6 years old. He had been throwing up for 24 hrs, just sleep and throw up..., could not hold down anything. I was ready to take him to the doctor or emergency room when I found this site. I gave him a big spoon of raw honey that I bought a few months back from an independent honey maker, and gave him black tea. He went back to sleep, and after 1 hour he was up talking, back being himself... then I gave him another spoon and more tea. He has been playing nicely, very energetic. I can't believe that he has not had any real food for 1 day and 1/2, and just 2 spoons of raw honey got him back up and running! And I can't believe that he did not throw up, as he would vomit even a spoon of water! Thanks!!"
Black Tea With Honey
[YEA] 03/30/2010: Carin from St. Petersburg, Fl: "My roommate woke up at 4:30 in the morning and began vomiting, which lasted for hours. I bought her some raw honey and black tea. I don't know if it was the honey, the tea, or both together, but she hasn't thrown up since and her stomach feels much better. She still has horrible body aches and can't leave bed yet, but the honey and the tea definitely made her stomach feel better. Thanks for all of the posts!"

[YEA] 05/14/2008: Lana from Morris, New Jersey: "Diarrhea (ailment) and Cinnamon (cure): My boyfriend had a stomach virus and was in awful pain. He was throwing up and using the bathroom around every 5-10 minutes. It was to the point where he had nothing left to expell but water and bile. I finally convinced him to drink a tea mix I made. I used- 1 cinnamon stick, broken up with a scissor a big pinch of ground ginger pinch of ground mustard a pinch of ground cloves (or 2 whole) I let it steep from boiling to drinkable temperature. He started getting better almost instantaneously. It stopped not only the diarrhea, but also the throwing up and the incredible pain. I never saw anything work so fast!"Replies

[YEA] 04/17/2011: Molly from Hawaiian Gardens, California replies: "So far so good, My 9 yr wasn't feeling well, I can always tell that something just isn't right. She had fallen asleep early was the first sign, then came the tossing and turning. Next thing I saw she was sitting straight up crying saying she threw up. She threw up a couple more times before falling to sleep. At 5am she woke up to pain in her tummy but not throwing up anymore. Worried that she would start again I looked for some help on line. I saw tea would help. I have all kinds of different teas. I made her the cinnamon tea added a little brown sugar, and I'm glad to say she's asleep."
[YEA] 01/09/2007: Phillip from New Hampshire: "a slightly rounded tablespoon of citric acid dissolved in a tall glass of luke warm milk taken orally whilst head tilted back. Cures severe vomiting.
