HAMSTRING STRETCHES

YEA

[YEA]  02/03/2006: Penny writes: "I was handicapped and not able to walk much for 12 years until I found out that my hamstrings needed stretching. Doesn't matter how messed up the back is, it will not refer pain to back of knees or bottoms of feet or likely even to sciatica, if the hamstrings are super stretched. So now I dance! No more crutches and wheelchairs and pain meds! Yogis don't get strokes and high blood pressure and all this other nonsense, but then they also probably don't take in any partially hydrogenated oils (i.e. plastic sticking to arteries) or MSG (poison that makes you fat) or NutraSweet and sucralose (poisons) either..

One kind of hamstring stretch that should not harm the back is when you are on a curb outside and you hang off it from the front part of the foot, or when you lie on your back with a towel around your feet (these are lower back protective). I wake up and throw my leg on the back of the couch or a high bar stool or bathroom counter and begin stretching all kinds of ways from that position, but I have been doing it for a long time, and also stretch the inner thing that way. When I sit here at the desk, I throw one leg at a time up on the desk and reach for my feet, but people need to work up to what works for lower back support in each case. and YES yoga!!!

If we can merely stretch the back the six directions any way we can (rest always between the twist directions), then put some traction (I'm thinking of buying a swing to hang from the hips, but now I get traction from back of couch (breathing deeply) with palms on it after stretching, and if we go upside down regularly, even shoulder stand is enough, just think how many pains we will save ourselves! (One stretch is feet together, arms high and straight and hands touching like a steeple and a straight stretch to the side, hold for count of 10 (breathe). It's hard to do much stretching in the morning before movement has taken place or when it's very cold.

No artificial sweeteners (not even splenda) NO trans fats, and no MSG along with stretched hamstrings and lots of water, I doubt people would age badly or lose memory or get strokes, even doing the minimal amount of stretching. Yoga is enough even for osteoporosis, I heard. And it wouldn't hurt to question the calcium rule of thumb, as it appears Magnesium needs to be much higher. I can send the formula, if you like, though it's a matter of opinion. Stores now carry it both ways. I never did the huge calcium to half magnesium ration and my sisters got the arthritis by my age, not me, and I am not active enough, I admit. The extra calcium running around the body is a bad thing. This is something people can research for themselves.

Here's what I was told, 600 elemental magnesium, preferably, if possible, the citrate maleate, 450 elemental calcium citrate, and 400 units of D (not more D than this). Researching the occasional Vit. K once a week for bones might be good to do for oneself too. I take that, but one must research, as I think it thins the blood a little, but is supposed to help with osteoporosis.

One more..... memory is not lost if one does the shoulder stand to replenish the 180,000 miles or so of capillaries in the brain, nor does hair go grey. Some have had it grow back in brown or grow back period, and it's good for wrinkles, organ flushing (due to new positions of organs) and insomnia and constipation."

It hurt bad sometime and sometimes not as bad but the pain was still there, so i stopped lifting and it got worse, what is going on. I thought it would have gotten better but i was worse. Well for other reasons i inhalled hydrogen peroxide, Not thinking that my shoulder would heal up, it did. I now can twist it raise it, sleep on it and even do pushups again. I am amazed, it healed in alittle over a month. No more pain. From Ken"

[YEA]  02/19/2008: Ginny from NY, NY writes: "Hello. I wanted to give you an update for another hydrogen peroxide inhalation cure. I wrote in a couple of weeks ago about how it stopped my flu in its tracks after a few hours (yes, I never got sick). Well, last night while I was asleep, my left neck muscle and shoulder blade went into a spasm. It was very painful and even more so when I got up in the morning. I went around yelping like a dog every time I moved my head or left arm. Anyway, after a few hours of this, I suddenly remembered that Bill M had written about how he used his remedy to stop a muscle spasm. I got out my little sinus spray bottle filled with h202 and did 6 quick squirts into my mouth (I like to hold my breath as long as possible after I spray and then spit out the left over peroxide). The excruciating pain jolts went away almost immediately and my neck and shoulder were back to normal after a few hours. Actually I can't tell you how long it took because I forgot about it until tonight when I realized that not only did I have no pain, but I had full mobility of my neck! I have had this same spasm occur lots of times over the years and it usually takes a good 2-3 days to recover. I LOVE THIS REMEDY!"

MAGNESIUM OIL

02/08/2012: Littlewing from Boston, Ma writes: "I have suffered from shoulder pain for quite a few months now. I don't know how I did it, but over time I've had less and less mobility in my shoulders, right far worse than the left (I'm a righty). They get stiff but the night time was the WORST. I'm sure some of it was from sleeping on it - but I would wake up in the middle of the night from the pain and I was always on my back and literally wouldn't be able to move my arm for a minute or two, then would have to support my right arm with my left hand so I could move it and loosen it up. The pain was horrible.

I've been reading lots of info on here and decided to try the magnesium oil as it seemed the easiest and wouldn't taste badly (I tried ACV, blech). Well, wouldn't you know a few hours after putting magnesium oil directly on my right shoulder the pain had subsided. I slept almost straight through the night that first night. That was just four days ago. I've been applying the magnesium oil in the morning and at night. My shoulder is still having discomfort but the pain lessening is awesome. I'm going to try h2o2 next, already have my food grade diluted down. I'm going to try the spray directly method first but will probably start drinking it in the morning as well. Here's hoping I have even better results! Health and happiness to all and thank you EC - I've told so many people about it looking for cures to acid reflux, migraines, reynauds, etc. You guys rock!"

After a few months of chronic pain I strapped on a magnet from a set I had gotten as a gift. After wearing it daily, the pain vanished after maybe a week never to return. I had a similar stubborn pain in my wrist for a few months. Applied the magnet and after a week or so it too vanished and never returned. I don't know what it does or how but I'm a believer."

[YEA]  06/14/2008: Kym from Niagara, Canada writes: "I have severe elbow pain from both tennis elbow and golfers elbow caused by trauma to my elbow and then repetitive use. What has helped make it bearable for me is massage and acupuncture. I also use Traumeel cream on the elbow and Traumeel tablets dissolved in mouth 3x daily for relief of pain and inflammation. If the pain is bad and elbow is very inflamed, such as after alot of use, try icing for 10mins or an ice massage (rub an ice cube over affected area for 3-5mins should feel cold, then burny, then achy, then numb be sure to stop when it starts feeling numb). I also wear an elbow brace to support the elbow this helps alot if you have to use your elbow alot."

Also husband has been having terrible stomach pains, I had him start taking the neutralizer liquid a dropper full underneath the tongue and his pain has went away. Also for about 2-3 months I was having a pain on the bottom of my foot that was especially noticable when walking. I applied the gel 2 times and the pain has completely went away."

Mace and nutmeg are also good at relieving pain but do not take too much of these because this two herbs can be hallucinogenic.
Bromelain present in pineapple is a great natural antinflammatory.
Arnica and bilberry are good for pain.
Carrot juice are effective for back (siatica),leg pain, and arthritis!
Capsaicin! This is actually a component in chili peppers and also works well for back pain, joint pain etc."

After 4 days, I noticed that a cronic pain that I had in my right side upper back and neck were diminished considerably and I could move my head from side to side without any pain.I originally tried it to relieve my nasal congestion which it does temporarly. I have also seen marked improvement in knee and other joint pain. I will continue to do it daily. Sufferers of rheumatism, arthritis, nerve damage, water retention, fevers, back pain, foot pain, numbness and tingling can all benefit from a herbal preparation containing Pimento. There is one on the market which they call "a complete medicine cabinet in a bottle", because it is an all round pain medication. Pimento oil, with lemongrass, nutmeg, cinnamon and peppermint stopped me getting cortisone shots in my shoulders every 3 months. QUESTION

01/04/2012: Sorrell from Brookline, Ma, Usa writes: "hi, I am experiencing horrific pain in my neck and shouders and also at the sides of my stomache. Under my skin it feels kind odd gravelly and stringy as well. The pain feels like shooting fire, its needling and does not go away. It is excruciating

I have arthritis, but this pain is under my skin where there are no bones.

altho it is worst in my neck and shoulders, it is also in my lower part of my torso on the sides. and I feel the same broken up gravelly feeling in my hands etc.

I also have neuropathy in my legs and feet-numbness and tingling and in myleft foot under the skin it feels like small coils.

My body feels like it is shaking and my balance is off. My complexion is pasty white and also kind of yellowish, My digestion is terrible- bloating gas farting irritable colon, reflux, smelly grey brown stools bad breath.

I am totally exhasuted, and yet sleep terribly- I take trazadone and also deep sleep AN HERBAL REMEDY I usally wake around 3am.

Altho I feel somewhat better emotionally I am still angry and bitter and sad, and cant seem to shake it also depressed anxious and terrifed. MY memory is shot and I have bad ocd, and a feeling of ill will.

I am trying to clean up a mold problem in my apartment. I have totally given up sugar, flour and junk food, but still feel awful.

Massage seems to exacerbate and inflame the pain. I have not had sucess with reiki. I don't want to use pain killers because of side affects. I find vinegar makes me really sick, any ideas for what could help?

I am a poet singer artist but this pain is just unbearable please help if you hav esuggestions.

I take 125 mg of trazadone for sleep, 25 mg effexor for depression and 300 mg gabapentin for moods."

01/05/2012: Jen from Bozeman, Mt, Us replies: "You might have gallbladder disease. Have you been checked out for that? It also sounds like some adrenal fatigue. The 3 am wake up call is a dead give away for adrenal fatigue. Which also can cause the depression symptoms. The perscriptions you are on could also be causing your problems. I would talk to your doctor about weaning yourself off of them. Depression is often diagnosed when doctors don't know what is wrong with you or how to fix it. Alot of the time it is actually an imbalance in your body that is causing depression. Vitamin D is sometimes low in depression. So are B vitamins. Check out the Depression page on Earth Clinic if you haven't already. There are lots of people with similar issues there who have found help naturally.
http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/depression3.html

Whenever someone says they have a yellow tint to thier skin you have to worry that it is the liver. A liver cleanse might help. Milk thistle (also good for adrenals) is great for detoxing the liver. If you have gallbladder disease you can get pain in your back, neck, and especially shoulders. You can also get a yellow tint to your skin from the bile building up and spilling when there are stones causing a blockage. Chanca Piedra is great for getting rid of stones.

As far as the anger and bitterness you might try a yeast detox. It is strangly possible for yeast to change our moods. We can become angry and basically hateful towards the entire human race from just a little fungus. Crazy but true. In fact, yeast can also cause depression as well. I wish you the best."

01/05/2012: Timh from Louisville, Usa replies: "Sorrell, I will make a couple shot-gun approaches and hope that others here at E.C. will follow as your needs are many.

First, purchase some Pau-de-Arco tea for the fungal infection and have 2 strong cups daily; some Black Strap Molasses would go well with the tea as it is very bitter. Take hot baths w/ 1/4 cup baking soda 1/4 cup Epsom salt. Your liver seems in need of help so take Milk Thistle Seed, and N Acetyl Cysteine (NAC).

Hope this helps and good luck."

01/05/2012: Lisa from Jacksonville, Florida replies: "It might seem silly to ask, but have you gone to a doctor? There seem to be multiple issues here and at least a painkiller would help with immediate relief.

Also when you go off the sugar there is a detox that makes you very sick. But the pain is another issue. Possibly neurological.

I will be in prayer for you. My mother had a terrible case of the shingles and the pain was horrific like that, so that is why I was thinking it could be neurological."

01/05/2012: Tina from Houston, Usa replies: "Hello Sorrell from Brookline, Ma, Usa,

Please google and look into pranic healing. Find someone who can do this on you in person or long distance. Something as simple as shifting your energy in a few sessions could find you a world of relief.

Good luck,
T"

01/05/2012: Carolyn from Abilene, Tx replies: "Have you seen a gastroenterologist? The bloating gas farting irritable colon, reflux, smelly grey brown stools bad breath sound very much like an H. Pylori or similar organism infection. They found mine with endoscopy and a biopsy, but I understand there is a breath test that will also diagnose it."
01/06/2012: Maria from Gippsland, Australia replies: "Hi Sorrell, Your symptoms may be caused by the mold so its good your dealing with that as if it is the cause until it is gone your symptoms will remain and even get worse. Your colouring and anger are good indicators that your liver is struggling so give it some help, check out the liver ailments pages here.

Try music for going to sleep too. A gentle relaxing music CD you enjoy even with singing but no clapping. You may find you have to replay it a couple of times for the first few nights and when/if you wake start it again.

For the pain you could try magnesium oil applied to your skin. Epsom salts made into a spray can also be used. Alkalizing your body can also help with the pain. There is lots of info on it here, what I do is juice 1/2 large or 1 small lemon into a glass and add 1/4 teaspoon bi-carb soda stir and then add water and stir and take it 1/2 hour after breakfast or mid morning and again at mid afternoon.

Earth Clinics section on mold is worth looking into. http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/mold.html Please don't under estimate what mold can do to some of us. All the best."

08/03/2011: Connie from Slc, Ut writes: "Hi Jae and Robin ; Maybe this will help. Firstly, for pain of unknown cause , B-12. Deficiency or Malabsorption of it will present with pain, usually in feet and legs in the beginning, then it spreads. It has an uncanny way of normalizing appetite. (increase or decrease as needed) It is also involved with proper vascular function , capillary strength, and proper blood clotting. I recommend a sublingual lozenge of Methyl-B12, (methylcobalamin). It is an easy way to absorb this vitamin without having to hope that the body is having to make the numerous conversions that make it available. Also, for weight management, I recommend increasing Potassium foods. We tend to dismiss "water weight", but proper distribution of fluids is a part of weight balance. Potassium foods also have a way of normalizing appetite. Of course, they don't work alone, one needs to supply amino acids, fats , and some carbohydrates to be satisfied. I have personally found that when my B-12 is low, I have unusual cravings. Since you've "caught " this early, it is possible that a trial of B-12 will help quickly. Consider 500-1000 mcg. Daily of a Methyl-B12 lozenge. They come in 1000 and 5000 mcg. and can be divided."

09/25/2009: Crystal from Salyersville, Ky, USA writes: "Middle of back pain just at night...

Help! For the last week my back hurts really bad at night. It starts around 11 pm after I get settled down and gets worse up until I findly go to sleep,,but with alot of help per pain meds and muscle relaxers. In the morning it eases off as I move around some.

The pain is in the mid-section of my back going straight across. Could it be my kidneys? I will tell you my ailments and what treatments I am doing. I have systemic lupus, fibromalgia and all the problems that come with both. For about the last month I have been drinking a glass of filtered water with a pich of borax, 1 teas. of baking soda, 30 drops of hydrogen peroxide 3%, and a capful of ACV. I had been using regular ACV but the last 4 days I have used raw vinegar with the mother in it. I am taking d-3 2000 iu, b-12 bilingual, potassium, magnesium 250 and calcium 600. I am still taking some rx meds which include ultram and zanaflex.

I stopped taking nexium and prozac without any problems.

What would cause my back to hurt only at night? I thought I was going to have to go to the ER a couple times it was so bad. Nothing helps or aggravates the pain, like walking sitting, laying. I sit with a heating pad last night with no help."

I have read many stories of people being pain free after using warm castor oil soaked on a piece of flannel cloth and leaving it overnight. Keep doing it until the pain is gone. You can google it and see for yourself. Hope this helps you."

04/13/2009: Carol from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada writes: "Four years ago my left leg started hurting for no apparent reason. I had burning pain in the front thigh and down the shin. I also could not lift my knee more than a couple of inches, nor could I get up from a crouch. It was like the muscle in the front of my thigh had locked up and stopped working. Six months ago, after a sudden cramping in my right groin, my right leg started doing the same thing. Chiropractic and acupuncture relieve the pain for a few days but it doesn't fix anything. I have seen osteopaths and neurologists. I have had x-rays, a CT scan, an MRI and a few other tests. They found a long-standing spondylolysthesis that I know happened in a boating accident 25 years ago. While this explains a few of the issues, it doesn't explain them all - and nobody can tell me how to fix anything. I have been told that "sometimes we just have to live with things and there are no answers" - not acceptable in my book. The best they can come up with is naproxin (anti-inflammatory) and morphine for the pain so I can sleep. Still, a "good" night sleep is 3-4 hours at most and I can't put on shoes or socks without help (Thank God for my husband), nor can I use stairs without something to hold on to. After the latest waiting list (4 months)a specialist told my there is no hernia involved. Now I am on a 6 month list to see a spinal specialist but I was also told I should have another MRI as well (11 month waiting list). Please, any suggestions would be gratefully accepted."

04/13/2009: Renate from Parrish, FL replies: "Dear Carol, I have had to deal with constant pain for almost 30 years. I do understand and I also understand the long waiting game. I have been rear ended 9 times (I have never had an at fault car accident) Prior to the car accidents I had constant pain for 14 months and saw 14 doctors. My symptoms did not match what was really happening. I finally discovered I had two large kidney stones (yet the doctor said this is not my problem and that we have not found the problem yet) in each ureter and had MAJOR surgery. I knew this was what my problem was and after the surgery I was finally pain free! A few months later was my 1st rear ending. With no stomach muscles to support my core (due to a 12 inch incision above the pubic hair) my back took the brunt of the force. I was flat on the floor because I couldn't sit. And again, I went from doctor to doctor to get out of pain and again they said nothing was wrong. I FORCED the neurosurgeon to perform the mylogram and he totally changed his tune when he saw the results. I had a huge ruptured disk. Had the surgery and was again pain free. Then I got rear ended again 3 months later. All in all I had 4 back surgeries. The surgeon who did the 3rd back surgery (spinal fusion) advised me to swim after 10 months of a steel brace. I wish he told me to swim BEFORE the surgery, perhaps it could have gotten me out of pain. My two sons colored in their coloring books while I swam at the gym every day. I got stronger and stronger and stronger. Somewhere along the way, my neck went bad, but swimming helped with that as well. It was a delayed whip lash, it didn't show up right away, but months later. Then I got thoracic outlet symdrom (after another car accident) and had surgery again after 1 year of PT. The PT helped, but had to have the surgery. This PT was different. She was an alternative PT. A PT that did MET, cranial sacral as well as other therapies. These techniques are done by a small number of PTs. I saw her for 7 years and she got me through those 7 years. Moved to Florida and yep got rear ended again 3 more times. (No, I was not the driver for all of them). I did accunpunture and massage therapy. Those two also helped a great deal. I also did chiropractic as well. I finally realized that chiropractic was not going to cure anything for me and quit. I did the arthritis swim classes at the Y. (I don't have arthritis) These classes got me pain free. It was unbelieveable, that's how much it helped. The problem was working and doing those classes was impossible. They don't have them at night. Continued acunpuncture and found an alternative therapist after my last rear ending. He then started me on strength training with a trainer. That was also extremely helpful. This all started when I was 27 and I will be 57 this year! Don't ever ever give up. My last car accident was 5 years ago and I'm still working at it. I am doing 20 minutes to fitness. They are nautilus machines but are different I think it's Med Ex. 20 minutes each week and I'm getting stronger. I workout at home on a recumbent bike and a stretching program. I also work out in the pool at home. I still cannot go up a stair higher than 5 inches. That happened after the 1989 car accident and no one can explain it. When I do, my back goes out and I'm in spasms and pain. Also, I cannot open many doors, (I can, but I'm in pain after sometimes for weeks). I cannot find answers to these problems, but hoping in getting stronger with the strength training, I will improve. I now see a non surgical orthopedic physician. He does what is called the Stillman Technique. I have been seeing him since October 08 and I think it's helping a lot. I still have problems with doors and stairs??? In 2005, I had to leave my job and for 7 months I did the water therapy. Got a new job and started at the Y. I swam and did strength training. I felt wonderful. After 9 months, one morning I tried to open the locker room door and it would not open. Because I pulled on a door that wouldn't open I got hurt bad. Here I go again on another roller coaster ride. So, the water is a great place for your back and whole body. Alternative therapies - accupunture, PT that does sacral cranial, MET etc. therapies. Yoga is something I will start soon as my orthopedist has suggested it. I think it will be very good. Also, he did say Yoga or Thi Chi. Anyway, sorry for being so lengthy and I wish you well."
