Remedies to Cure Menstrual Issues

Updated: 09/04/2010

"Menstruation is a condition of women in which the uterine lining (endometrium) is shed. Overt menstruation (where there is bleeding from the vagina) occurs primarily in humans and genetically similar animals such as chimpanzees. The females of other species of placental mammal have estrous cycles, in which the endometrium is reabsorbed by the animal (covert menstruation) at the end of its reproductive cycle.

Eumenorrhea denotes normal, regular menstruation that lasts for a few days (usually 3 to 5 days, but anywhere from 2 to 7 days is considered normal). The average blood loss during menstruation is 35 millilitres with 10-80 mL considered normal; many females also notice shedding of the endometrium lining that appears as tissue mixed with the blood. An enzyme called plasmin ? contained in the endometrium ? tends to inhibit the blood from clotting. Because of this blood loss, women have higher dietary requirements for iron to prevent iron deficiency. Many women experience uterine cramps, also referred to as dysmenorrhea, during this time." [YEA]  08/07/2008: Saab from Vancouver, Canada writes: "re: pure aloe vera gel for severe Menstrual cramps (dysmenohrea)... I have had extremely severe cramps for 20+ yrs. Have taken many prescription medication ibuprofen, and others (25 mg codeine Tylenol, every 4 hrs) for 4-5 during my periods; every month of the last 20 years. Tried ACV remedy , helped abt. 25%.after 6-8 mths. Tried pure Aloe Vera gel (lily of the valley) 1 tsp every morn, then as needed during day. helped 80% in the first time try."

08/08/2008: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hi Saab, A good magnesium supplement goes a long way in alleviating PMS/mentrual problems. Good old magnesium does a lot of different things in our bodies and many of us today are running deficits of it. Don't wait until PMS starts, to take it."

08/12/2010: Tehani from Los Angeles, California replies: "Mix 1 heaping size tablespoon of instant caffeinated coffee(any brand), using very little warm water to dissolve it, about (1/3 cup). The idea of this is to have a shot of coffee without being obligated to drinking a whole cup of it. I would recommend using a straw to drink your shot, so your teeth don't get stained. If your cramps are still there within 5-10 minutes later, by all means, drink another teaspoon of it using the same amount of water. When the effect fades off, repeat the same process as if your taking a cramp pill. Since I'm not a coffee drinker, I didn't feel any jitters or shaking at all, in fact it MAY encourage a bowel movement within a few minutes or so."

[YEA]  10/27/2008: Crista from Pekin, Illinois writes: "Apple Cider Vinegar for Menstral Cramps

I actually was taking the ACV for my sinuses and it ended up helping me with my cramps. I was still very tired and used a heating pad cause my back was aching, but not to the point of needing to take main medicine like I always have had to before. Usually my cramps make it so hard to concentrate on anything, and I just lay around for a day. I am in college and i was able to do my homework without problems because the pain was hardly there. I don't take ACV 3 times a day. I just started two weeks ago using it and I just use about 3 tablespoons of ACV and 3 tablespoons of honey in a tall coffee mug so about a 16 ounce container. I bet it I used it more it would have helped even more, but my husband doesn't like the smell of the vinegar so much :-) It is also clearing my sinuses quite nicely. I think I may be stopping my nasacort for my Rhrinitis soon. The ACV seems to work better, and I am starting to really like the taste."

[YEA]  10/06/2008: Jill from Suburban Chicago, IL writes: "I would like to share my experince with Apple Cider VInegar (remedy):

I am 50 years old and had been experiencing flooding (term I was unaware of until my OB/GYN used this label for extremely excessive menstrual and mid-cycle bleeding) for about 6 months. I was bleeding 6 months STRAIGHT, without stop.... to the point where use of a maximum-flow tampon would not inhibit blood from running down to the floor, 5 or 6 times a day. It was just horrible. I was searching on-line for a solution to this demoralizing, debilitating problem, when I came upon references to ACV as a remedy for excessive bleeding.

I started the next morning: 2 T ACV mixed with 1/2 cup water or orange juice, quickly sipped down with a straw, then followed immediately by a full glass of water. I mention these practices specifically, because you'll want to drink the vinegar as quickly as possible, and then, be certain you have rinsed it all down your throat and diluted it in your tummy. (vinegar is so acidic that you need to protect your teeth, throat, and tummy).

I am sorry to frighten you with the preceeding warnings, but they're important precautions to take. However, it is worth drinking ACV, and being careful about it, too, because I found that it entirely stopped the flooding problem I had been experiencing. About a month ago, I became complacent, and missed an entire day of using the ACV, and I immediately had break-through bleeding the next day. So, I started faithfully right back on my routine of 3x a day, and NO MORE BLEEDING PROBLEMS FOR ME! That brief day when I got lazy and stopped using the AVC, and the immediate relief I found when I started using it again, are sufficient to keep me using ACV.
I have never been any sort of holistic/organic/folk person when it came to making decisions about medical care... but I certainly have changed my mind, now!

Good luck to anyone who tries this- I hope you have the success that I have had!"

03/08/2010: Susan from Taft, Ca, Usa replies: "I have been spotting for three months, and recently it has gotten way heavier. Lately, the weird thing is that it's the heaviest at night. After 5pm it starts to go out of control, then the daytime it goes back to light.

I have started using ACV pills and it has slowed my flow. After the first dose, it made my flow slow way down. It was at least 80% less bleeding. I am only on day one, I will keep you informed on the outcome of this treatment. This probably a temporary solution, until I can make it to the Dr's.

I used 2 pills three times a day, with a small meal, such as bowl a cereal or bread and butter. I bought them at the drug store in the diet aisle."

[YEA]  06/02/2010: Christy from Mechanicsburg, Pa replies: "Thanks for the heads up about diluting the vinager. I never thought about that!

I want to add my voice to the chorus of "YAY ACV!!" I had horrible horrible cramps - once so bad I went to the ER worrying something was very wrong. They did an examination AND and ultrasound and found nothing. I bled so much that I couldn't go to work because I'd be useless there. It was really horrible.

I saw all these sites about supplements and things and I am not one for the holistic approach. I took my advil or muscle relaxers anything really just to stop the pain - but of course they made me bleed worse.

So when I tried ACV I was astounded! I have often said - short of a miraculous healing, I have never ever eveeeeeer seen something work so well!

My bleeding all but stopped. My cramps went AWAY!!! I can't even begin to tell you of the relief!

They suggested mixing ACV with apple juice - I also do it in iced tea and sometimes v8 fruit juice. It doesn't taste the greatest but man oh man....It's a more than fair compromise for how effective it is.

I've been using ACV for about 7 months now and everytime I use it - it works like a charm. I need to make sure to start drinking it before my period, or I do have a day of groaning while I wait for it to take effect.

I usually took 1 tablespoon with an 8oz glass of water, juice, tea etc - but lately I've been adding it to a full sized bottle of tea or juice and kinda eyeballing it. Still works though I'm thinking I should probably start measuring again just to control the amount of acid going into my stomach.

Also drinking it through a straw may be a good idea. I notice my lips get a little chapped during the time I take it - probably from the acid in the vinager.

But I can't stress enough - even with the minor annoyances ACV is AMAZING. If you have a really horrible period and think nothing will help you - try ACV!! It's less than $1 and a total life saver!"

[YEA]  09/27/2008: Amy from Marietta, Georgia writes: "I read on your site that ACV was great for bloating, PMS, and menstrual cramps. So, in the morning and at night I began drinking 1 tablespoon ACV in 8 oz. water with honey or agave nectar to sweeten. Bloating was gone within 1 day. A couple of weeks later, I had no cramps with my period, and the bleeding only lasted 3 days. Usually, I have to take ibuprofen for one day b/c of cramping and general pelvic pain.

The next month, I forgot to keep up with the ACV (it's not something I crave!), and it was one of the most painful 3 days of a period I've had in a very long time. So, I remembered the ACV treatment the next month. My period sneaked up on me again. No pain at all. I only use the natural ACV with the "Mother". It helps to mix up a couple of quarts at a time and keep it in the refrigerator."

[YEA]  08/18/2008: Angela from Tonasket, WA writes: "I have suffered from painful ovulation and also irregular periods and many misscarriages. I monthly chart and know what's been going on for years in my cycle. I have been taking ACV for a little over a week, and for the first time, my ovulatory pain was walkable and only an hour. . .as opposed to a day in bed. Plus, it was less than 1 week after my period, instead of 2 weeks plus. This is crazy! I also have taken molasses for period pain, but not for long and then I ran out after less than a week. I may have found it helped with my infertility as well, but I figured I needed to heal from my last misscarriage before attempting again. We will see next month, and what my next period will be like (usually another day in bed). . .will keep you posted."

[YEA]  09/29/2007: Kelly from Jacksonville, FL writes: "I found this website when looking for a home remedy for my prolonged menstrual bleeding. I was getting my period for 3 moths or more at a time. I have PCOS and before, I had to take progestrone to make me get my periods so I could get pregnant. Once my son was born, I had the opposite problem and couldn't stop bleeding. I bled very very heavily for months on end, feeling tired and weak. Also just feeling disgusting, and it was causing some feelings of dissappointment because my husband and I weren't able to share any intimate time because of my constant bleeding. So I read this website and thought to myself, I doubt this will work, but let's try it anyway. To my complete amazement within 1 week of trying this I stopped bleeding completely! It's been 1 week now with no period at all, not even spotting! (which is a miracle because I wa constantly spotting inbetween). I've been taking it for 2 weeks now. I am also surprised, the taste isn't bad at all. I expected it to taste disgusting, but it's really not bad.

Another amazing surprise, my sister said it looks like I've lost some weight, so I got on the scale today expecting little or no loss at all, but I was SHOCKED when I saw I'd lost 18 lbs! WOW! This product is fantastic and I'd reccomend it to anyone!"

The bleeding has stopped, but I am hoping that when I have been on the ACV it will help with my cycles. Can you please let me know if I can get off of the birth control and still use the ACV with baking soda.

I have also read there is a pill form for the ACV. Is it as effective? Also, how long do you take the ACV? Is it everyday and is it okay to take for a long period of time? This website is very informative and I am very Thankful!!!

Thanks in advance!

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, MOLASSES, FLAXSEED OIL

1 YEA

[YEA]  05/20/2009: Nads from Toronto, Ontario writes: "I am very, very happy today because I prayed to God to help to find a cure to my promblem and he did. I suffer with fibriod and cyst since I was 25 years old. I had a myomectomy to remove them in 1997 and they grew back with a vengenace. I then had terrible periods with heavy clothing and excruciating pains. I had to be wearing pampers as pads were always causing my clothes to be messed up. I also had very irregular periods and infertility. After still having the same problem after my surgery I went to a Iredologist and Naturapathic doctor who gave me a 3 days fasting and cleansing along with her own medicines and instruction of what not to eat. My period regulated (I now had regular cycle which I never had since the age of 16)and the pain and heavy bleeding went away. Three years later I came off the vegetarian diet and two years after that the problem started again. I still was unable to conceive and worst my periods became very very irregular as the years progressed. In 2005 I saw my period and it never came again until middle 2006. Then once in 2007 then again three times April,May and June 2008 after I had used flaxseed oil recommed by my friend to simulate its arrival. I did not see my period after that and in 2009 I became very depress because the flaxseed oil was not working I then thought I was in menopause I then was led by God to this site and must say the ACV, Blackstrap Molasses and 2 Flaxseed oil tablet has now so far restore my period with no heavy bleeding nor pain. I hardly feel the bulky fibriods nor the symptoms of the fibriods or cyst. I however still have not gotten pregnant yet. I am still hoping and praying this will happen soon.

Can anyone tell me of something that can assist me in getting pregnant after having myomectomy surgery. Thank you all very much."

[YEA]  03/21/2010: Sarah from Milton Keynes, United Kingdom writes: "I really wanted to thank this site for sharing a herbal remedy to all health problems. I've been looking for an alternative remedy about abnormal menstruation and I end up in this site which is really amazing. I always have a normal period which lasted 3 days, but this last 2 years its getting longer that it even lasted for almost a month then just 2 or 3 days rest and here it goes again and with a very big clot as well. I end up anemic.. I tried so many herbal things like ACV but I cannot take it, maybe I am too acidic that when I took it I felt pain in my tummy...body can tell if it is not for you. Then I tried Blackstrap Molasses bought it for just £1.70 in a health shop in MK. At first I thought it will not work, though I like the taste bec. it is sweet. I took 1 tablespoon in the morning and again before bedtime..first 3 days nothing happen but I continued drinking it..little by little my period getting lesser and lesser..blood clot gone and at exactly one week my bleeding stopped!!! But of course it always comes with prayer. So why not try it, it really happened to me.. I thought people from this site is just exaggerating things. But I am a real and my experience is TRUE. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!"

[YEA]  08/19/2010: Rbell from Beaumont, Texas replies: "I had started to have irregular longer periods and shorter cycles; eg. 23 day cycle instead of 28 days and my periods were lasting a full week instead of the usual 4-5 days. I got on this site and read about the blackstrap molasses which I purchased from a health food store. By the end of the first month my period regulated itself back to a 28-29 days cycle and my periods last 3-5 days with much less bleeding then before. Not only did it put my cycle back to normal(I'm 38) but my hair grew 6 inches in the last year and my fingernails are beautiful and hard! I tell everyone about it! At first I took a tablespoon a day, first thing in the morning, then had my coffee, but now I take just a teaspoon a day for the same results!"

I continue to take it, though, as I was anemic in the past (haven't been tested recently) and it is rich in iron and other minerals. Would you please share the name of the brand you are using? My email is elsaeasterly @ yahoo.com (without spaces). Thanks in advance!"

[NAY]  05/06/2009: Liberty from Eden, NC writes: "I'm a 35-year-old female. I've been diagnosed with PCOS, other than that I have no diagnosed illnesses although I suspect a thyroid disorder even though the test comes back normal. I do not take any precription medication. Ever since I started my period at age 12, I've had horrible cramps that I have to treat with a lot of pain medication and a heating pad. The cramps have lasted a day or two and my period has lasted 3-4 days. I started taking 1 tbsp. a day of Plantation blackstrap molasses about 2 months ago after reading what great experiences other women have had in curing cramps. My experience has been terrible. Since I started on the molasses, my period has extended to 5 days with more severe cramping each day. I know that treatments don't work the same for each person, but I'm very curious as to why the molasses caused this reaction. Any ideas?"

06/12/2009: LaToya from Chicago, IL replies: "Hi Liberty, have you tried using an organic brand of Blackstrap Molasses. I don't think I can mention brand name here, but the kind I use is organic and also unsulphered. I purchase it from a health food store. I don't think the grocery store molasses has the same health benefits. I hope the organic brand works for you."

06/14/2009: Liberty from Eden, NC replies: "Hi LaToya. Thanks for responding! The brand that I used said it was organic. I truly am baffled why my reaction to it was bad; however, I haven't given up. I'm trying other remedies I've found on this site."
