Remedies to Cure Menstrual Issues
"Menstruation is a condition of women in which the uterine lining (endometrium) is shed. Overt menstruation (where there is bleeding from the vagina) occurs primarily in humans and genetically similar animals such as chimpanzees. The females of other species of placental mammal have estrous cycles, in which the endometrium is reabsorbed by the animal (covert menstruation) at the end of its reproductive cycle.
Eumenorrhea denotes normal, regular menstruation that lasts for a few days (usually 3 to 5 days, but anywhere from 2 to 7 days is considered normal). The average blood loss during menstruation is 35 millilitres with 10-80 mL considered normal; many females also notice shedding of the endometrium lining that appears as tissue mixed with the blood. An enzyme called plasmin contained in the endometrium tends to inhibit the blood from clotting. Because of this blood loss, women have higher dietary requirements for iron to prevent iron deficiency. Many women experience uterine cramps, also referred to as dysmenorrhea, during this time." (Wikipedia)

Tried ACV remedy , helped abt. 25%.after 6-8 mths. Tried pure Aloe Vera gel (lily of the valley) 1 tsp every morn, then as needed during day. helped 80% in the first time try."
Replies08/08/2008: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hi Saab, A good magnesium supplement goes a long way in alleviating PMS/mentrual problems. Good old magnesium does a lot of different things in our bodies and many of us today are running deficits of it. Don't wait until PMS starts, to take it."
08/12/2010: Tehani from Los Angeles, California replies: "Mix 1 heaping size tablespoon of instant caffeinated coffee(any brand), using very little warm water to dissolve it, about (1/3 cup). The idea of this is to have a shot of coffee without being obligated to drinking a whole cup of it. I would recommend using a straw to drink your shot, so your teeth don't get stained. If your cramps are still there within 5-10 minutes later, by all means, drink another teaspoon of it using the same amount of water. When the effect fades off, repeat the same process as if your taking a cramp pill. Since I'm not a coffee drinker, I didn't feel any jitters or shaking at all, in fact it MAY encourage a bowel movement within a few minutes or so."

10/21/2011: Puja from Nagpur, Maharashtra, India writes: "Hello I am 28 years old married girl, my monthly cycle do not come by itself, when I take contraceptive pills then only my menses comes, otherwise not. For the first also I had taken medicine named LYNORAL to start my menses... Doctor were saying that after marriage this problem will be solved automatically but now it is 2.5 years since I got married but I am not getting my menses by itself... My Parents are so much worried for me since 10 years........ Doctors said your uterus is small in size and hormones are not automatically building up in your body...
Please suggest me some remedy, I will be very thankful to you please, please I beg."
Replies10/21/2011: T from Houston, Usa replies: "Puja,Please google 'pranic healing'. You can learn to do it yourself, or you can find many healers especially in India who can do this for you. Within a few sessions your condition can be shifted.
Good Luck, T"
10/21/2011: Maria from Gippsland, Australia replies: "Hi Puja, The Indian herb Shatavari is worth looking into, just search amenorrhea and shatavari, it is used with success for a lot of women. Also shilajit just to make sure you are getting your minerals. I believe iodine is very important but always start off on a low dose and build up the amount. Iodine is not just for the thyroid but some of its other benefits are for female hormones, fibrocystic breasts and ovary issues. You can use lugols iodine internally, I started with 1 drop a day for around a week then went to 1 drop twice a day for about a week. I also take some magnessium, selenium and vit c which help the iodine to be utilised. If you are having no cleansing reactions you can increase the dose. There is info here on EC about iodine. All the best."
12/22/2011: Shau from Manama, Manama, Bahrain replies: "Dear Puja... I was also dealing with same problem for 2 years but just last week I got my periods and I am so happy that my decision of not taking hormonal pills proves to be correct. Because once you supply hormones artificially to your body then the natural hormonal cycle will become more inactive. Now coming to the point that what I used as medicine is a natural herbal formula by Dr. Christopher. The medicine is available by the name-Dr. Christopher's Female Reproductive formula. My Naturopath has told me to take this for 3 months and then stop to see whether the cycle has normalized. This is my first month of treatment. Hope this will cure my problem of Amenorrhea."

09/09/2011: Vanessa from St Louis, Mo writes: "I was diagnosed at 17 with PCOS and have gone over a year at times with no period (amenorrhea). I am now in my 30's and have no children, although married over 5 years. I actually started taking a magnesium supplement after reading that it might help with restless leg syndrome. The second day after taking it, I began menstruating. It did not seem to help with the RLS, however, so I stopped taking it. After a while of again having no period, I decided to take magnesium and see if it would bring on menstruation again. It DID. I have continued to take magnesium for about a year in the same fashion when I haven't had a period in a couple of months and it brings one on EVERY TIME. I have found NOTHING written online about magnesium being a cure for amenorrhea and find it very hard to believe that nobody else has ever discovered this. Has anyone else ever heard about a connection there? (And I have only been taking the run of the mill drug store magnesium oxide! After reading on this site, I will be trying a more absorbable version and take it much more often and see if that helps with the RLS. ) Also, if magnesium can bring on menstruation; maybe it can help with fertility? Could it be possible that my problems have just been a magnesium deficiency this whole time?! What do you think?"
Replies10/15/2011: Katie M from Kentucky, Usa replies: "Vanessa, I also have amenorrhea to the point where I go for a year without menstruating. For awhile I was having maybe 1 light period a year, if that. This past April I changed my diet. I stopped eating dairy and all animal products (whole foods plant based diet, or vegan). In late May I was menstruating. And again in early July! I couldn't believe it. Not only to have it come on ONCE, but TWICE and seemingly in a "normal" time frame (the "28 day" cycle) was just amazing. I chalked it up to too many hormones in the animal products I had been eating causing an imbalance. I was due again in September but nothing happened. But, I started again in October. 3 periods within a short time frame is a HUGE deal for me.Anyway, I was reading recently about low estrogen and I DID read that low estrogen and a magnesium deficiency are linked. So, I am not surprised you had success with the magnesium supplements! I suspect that I have a similar issue. I am glad I found these posts! Earth Clinic should make an "ailment" page for Amenorrhea..."

[YEA] 12/01/2011: Krista from Sherman, Ny writes: "I just wanted to thank those of you that have posted their experience with using ACV for prolonged periods and earthclinic.com for providing this site. I missed my period for two months. When it came it lasted for nine weeks. It flowed through tampons and pads. I could not leave my home for fear I would leak through. I also had very large clots. My doctor did a sonogram and said nothing was wrong so she scheduled an appointment for a gyn. I was sick of bleeding so heavy. I was getting exausted and anemic from the blood loss.
So, I decided to find a home remedy for the problem. That's when I found this site. I thought I need to try this. I mixed one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with 8 oz. of water and drank it two times a day. My period completed stopped in a day and a half. I have cut back to once a day but the bleeding did not come back yet. I am very happy that I didn't have to spend lots of money and go through unnecessary medical procedures to stop it. I wish doctors would share this kind of information. Thanks again earthclinic."

I been having abnormal cycles all my life and at times none at all. I found a website which made reference to ACV by Bragg Organic Raw (unfiltered). I begin taking about six months ago and I tell you NO lie. I have had a cycle every month. I'm also type II diabetic and my numbers are AWESOME! I have always exercised (walking) on a regular. Sometimes the "Natural" elements work. I wished I had knew about this years ago but hopefully this information can be helpful to someone:)

[YEA] 01/11/2012: Kristen from Arcata, Ca replies: "I am so thankful that I found this site and saw all of the other women's experiences by using ACV. I am a 45 year old so I am in perimenopause and my symptoms have been horrific. For the past two years I have had excessive bleeding, flooding, clotting, anemia, and pain with my periods. I have missed many days of work and I have had to stay literally locked up at home for fear of having constant accidents out in public. My periods were every 3 weeks instead of 4 and they would last for say 10 days. Just recently I went to the doctor and she put me on birth control pills. Well I didn't have a period for 5 weeks.... Then midway in taking my birth control pills I started to flow again. It was light so I thought I was doing good. Then, I just continued to flow for days. Then on day 13 of light bleeding I started to flood and huge clots again only this time it was worse than ever before. Just to say this as of day 18, yesterday, I was about to go to the hospital thinking that I would need a blood transfusion. But I came across this website while I was looking for natural remedies for my heavy menses. I have Bragg's ACV and I put some in some water with honey and drank it three times yesterday and I am pleased to say that I am having a much lighter flow. I have used it today as well and it has made such a difference for me so far! I have found my saving grace!
Thank you so much for this site and all of the helpful comments from women like me. I am spreading the word so other woman will have to suffer like I have! So ladies reach for the ACV (organic, raw, unfiltered, with the "mother") for your period!"

11/30/2011: Fashionprincess from Los Angeles, Ca writes: "I have recently started taking the birth control pill Loestrin24. I have taken 21 days worth, but on say 19, I started bleeding. Now, I'm not sure if this is my period, or just breakthrough bleeding... What can I take to make it stop? I am going on vacation with my boyfriend, and I'm scared I will have breakthrough bleeding during my trip. Will ACV help? Any other suggestions?"
Replies12/01/2011: Jen from Bozeman, Mt, Us replies: "I don't think ACV will work but you never know. There are some amazing uses for it. It can't hurt to try it. You can also try taking cayenne capsules or drinking a tea with cayenne in it. I know it helps slow bleeding for women giving birth and other bleeding issues. When I got the DPT shot a while back I had non stop bleeding for like 2 months. Great birth control huh! I was told (by my doctor) to take Aleve which isn't natural but it did stop the bleeding. It worked for me almost immediately. I would go right back to bleeding if I got off it so I decided to forgo any sort of hormonal birth control at that point. Good luck!"
12/02/2011: G from Ny, Usa replies: "I don't believe that cayenne would help with this kind of bleeding... Used topically on cuts, yes. Cayenne is known to be a natural blood thinner. My mother had nose bleeds when she took it internally. From what I have read about break through bleeding while taking birth control is that you probably need a different dosage/prescription."
12/04/2011: Catherine from Colorado Springs, Co replies: "Cayenne does work internally as well as topically for different kinds of blood and cardiac conditions. I'm no expert on it by any means, but I remember reading that it can have different effects- both blood thinning and thickening. I for one used it to slow down bleeding after experiencing a miscarriage years ago; nothing else worked, or as fast! Although I really don't know anything further than that, like if it would work for breakthrough bleeding. It must be some kind of imbalance pertaining to hormones or maybe minerals, but that's all I can comment on!"
12/04/2011: Fashion Princess from Los, Ca replies: "Has anyone heard of yarrow? Someone recommended I use a yarrow tincture to help with the breakthrough... Anyone have any experience with this?"

Felt energetic. Very less bleeding as I used to have earliar. I am so happy to have found the remedy. I always searched for remedies for heavy bleeding but didnot know about acv. Thanks earth clinic.

[YEA] 11/07/2010: Michele from Coffeyville, Ks Us replies: "It helped so much with my problem of heavy bleeding, I am 53 and was having such a terrible time. I tried 2 tps ACV with a bottle of water and orange flavored drink mix. I drank it 3 times that day and it slowed down the flow so much, it made my period so much more easier to deal with. I recommend the ACV treatment each day of your period, you won't need any other medicine at all."
12/28/2010: Onemoretime from Indianapolis, In, Usa replies: "This is amazing. I was actually looking for validation to a claim that I am ready to scream to the top of my lungs and I found it here! After my last period, someone told me about drinking ACV for cleansing my digestive tract and relieving myself of excess water. Well, I think I was so focused on my increased number of bowel movements that I missed another wonderful discovery!Let's go back... For years, menstruation has been a nightmare for me. I was to the point where my doctor told me that if I wanted to have any more children, I needed to do it now because what she wanted to do about my ABNORMAL bleeding would prevent pregnancy. Well, I've since battled infertility issues (for which I am looking to resolve naturally before I go back to the fertility specialist), but I just came off my period and realized that I didn't have debilitating cramps, my monthly headache, nor those big monster clots that hit the comode water and splash back up at me! Could ACV be a part of my healing?! ?! ?! ? I mean, no one knows how depressed I would get knowing that my period was coming... Nights of miserable sleeping, nervous anxieties of messing up my clothes... I'm gonna do this for another month and if it still works, I'm telling everyone I know who deals with periods from HADES!"
01/10/2011: Angela from Omaha, Ne replies: "Its true... I did a colon cleanse and thereafter made sure I took lots of fiber and drank tons of water and as a result my periods were 100x better and I did not even get PMS anymore or migraine headaches. There is a correlation with unhealthy bowels and PMS/ Heavy painful periods. Thank you and happy periods! I still want to know how to make them SHORTER as in shortened days."

[YEA] 10/27/2008: Crista from Pekin, Illinois writes: "Apple Cider Vinegar for Menstral Cramps
I actually was taking the ACV for my sinuses and it ended up helping me with my cramps. I was still very tired and used a heating pad cause my back was aching, but not to the point of needing to take main medicine like I always have had to before. Usually my cramps make it so hard to concentrate on anything, and I just lay around for a day. I am in college and i was able to do my homework without problems because the pain was hardly there. I don't take ACV 3 times a day. I just started two weeks ago using it and I just use about 3 tablespoons of ACV and 3 tablespoons of honey in a tall coffee mug so about a 16 ounce container. I bet it I used it more it would have helped even more, but my husband doesn't like the smell of the vinegar so much :-) It is also clearing my sinuses quite nicely. I think I may be stopping my nasacort for my Rhrinitis soon. The ACV seems to work better, and I am starting to really like the taste."

[YEA] 10/06/2008: Jill from Suburban Chicago, IL writes: "I would like to share my experince with Apple Cider VInegar (remedy):
I am 50 years old and had been experiencing flooding (term I was unaware of until my OB/GYN used this label for extremely excessive menstrual and mid-cycle bleeding) for about 6 months. I was bleeding 6 months STRAIGHT, without stop.... to the point where use of a maximum-flow tampon would not inhibit blood from running down to the floor, 5 or 6 times a day. It was just horrible. I was searching on-line for a solution to this demoralizing, debilitating problem, when I came upon references to ACV as a remedy for excessive bleeding.
I started the next morning: 2 T ACV mixed with 1/2 cup water or orange juice, quickly sipped down with a straw, then followed immediately by a full glass of water. I mention these practices specifically, because you'll want to drink the vinegar as quickly as possible, and then, be certain you have rinsed it all down your throat and diluted it in your tummy. (vinegar is so acidic that you need to protect your teeth, throat, and tummy).
I am sorry to frighten you with the preceeding warnings, but they're important precautions to take. However, it is worth drinking ACV, and being careful about it, too, because I found that it entirely stopped the flooding problem I had been experiencing. About a month ago, I became complacent, and missed an entire day of using the ACV, and I immediately had break-through bleeding the next day. So, I started faithfully right back on my routine of 3x a day, and NO MORE BLEEDING PROBLEMS FOR ME! That brief day when I got lazy and stopped using the AVC, and the immediate relief I found when I started using it again, are sufficient to keep me using ACV.
I have never been any sort of holistic/organic/folk person when it came to making decisions about medical care... but I certainly have changed my mind, now!
Good luck to anyone who tries this- I hope you have the success that I have had!"
03/08/2010: Susan from Taft, Ca, Usa replies: "I have been spotting for three months, and recently it has gotten way heavier. Lately, the weird thing is that it's the heaviest at night. After 5pm it starts to go out of control, then the daytime it goes back to light.
I have started using ACV pills and it has slowed my flow. After the first dose, it made my flow slow way down. It was at least 80% less bleeding. I am only on day one, I will keep you informed on the outcome of this treatment. This probably a temporary solution, until I can make it to the Dr's.I used 2 pills three times a day, with a small meal, such as bowl a cereal or bread and butter. I bought them at the drug store in the diet aisle."
[YEA] 06/02/2010: Christy from Mechanicsburg, Pa replies: "Thanks for the heads up about diluting the vinager. I never thought about that!
I want to add my voice to the chorus of "YAY ACV!!" I had horrible horrible cramps - once so bad I went to the ER worrying something was very wrong. They did an examination AND and ultrasound and found nothing. I bled so much that I couldn't go to work because I'd be useless there. It was really horrible.
I saw all these sites about supplements and things and I am not one for the holistic approach. I took my advil or muscle relaxers anything really just to stop the pain - but of course they made me bleed worse.
So when I tried ACV I was astounded! I have often said - short of a miraculous healing, I have never ever eveeeeeer seen something work so well!
My bleeding all but stopped. My cramps went AWAY!!! I can't even begin to tell you of the relief!
They suggested mixing ACV with apple juice - I also do it in iced tea and sometimes v8 fruit juice. It doesn't taste the greatest but man oh man....It's a more than fair compromise for how effective it is.
I've been using ACV for about 7 months now and everytime I use it - it works like a charm. I need to make sure to start drinking it before my period, or I do have a day of groaning while I wait for it to take effect.
I usually took 1 tablespoon with an 8oz glass of water, juice, tea etc - but lately I've been adding it to a full sized bottle of tea or juice and kinda eyeballing it. Still works though I'm thinking I should probably start measuring again just to control the amount of acid going into my stomach.
Also drinking it through a straw may be a good idea. I notice my lips get a little chapped during the time I take it - probably from the acid in the vinager.
But I can't stress enough - even with the minor annoyances ACV is AMAZING. If you have a really horrible period and think nothing will help you - try ACV!! It's less than $1 and a total life saver!"

[YEA] 09/27/2008: Amy from Marietta, Georgia writes: "I read on your site that ACV was great for bloating, PMS, and menstrual cramps. So, in the morning and at night I began drinking 1 tablespoon ACV in 8 oz. water with honey or agave nectar to sweeten. Bloating was gone within 1 day. A couple of weeks later, I had no cramps with my period, and the bleeding only lasted 3 days. Usually, I have to take ibuprofen for one day b/c of cramping and general pelvic pain.
The next month, I forgot to keep up with the ACV (it's not something I crave!), and it was one of the most painful 3 days of a period I've had in a very long time. So, I remembered the ACV treatment the next month. My period sneaked up on me again. No pain at all. I only use the natural ACV with the "Mother". It helps to mix up a couple of quarts at a time and keep it in the refrigerator."

I monthly chart and know what's been going on for years in my cycle. I have been taking ACV for a little over a week, and for the first time, my ovulatory pain was walkable and only an hour. . .as opposed to a day in bed. Plus, it was less than 1 week after my period, instead of 2 weeks plus. This is crazy! I also have taken molasses for period pain, but not for long and then I ran out after less than a week. I may have found it helped with my infertility as well, but I figured I needed to heal from my last misscarriage before attempting again. We will see next month, and what my next period will be like (usually another day in bed). . .will keep you posted."

[YEA] 09/29/2007: Kelly from Jacksonville, FL writes: "I found this website when looking for a home remedy for my prolonged menstrual bleeding. I was getting my period for 3 moths or more at a time. I have PCOS and before, I had to take progestrone to make me get my periods so I could get pregnant. Once my son was born, I had the opposite problem and couldn't stop bleeding. I bled very very heavily for months on end, feeling tired and weak. Also just feeling disgusting, and it was causing some feelings of dissappointment because my husband and I weren't able to share any intimate time because of my constant bleeding. So I read this website and thought to myself, I doubt this will work, but let's try it anyway. To my complete amazement within 1 week of trying this I stopped bleeding completely! It's been 1 week now with no period at all, not even spotting! (which is a miracle because I wa constantly spotting inbetween). I've been taking it for 2 weeks now. I am also surprised, the taste isn't bad at all. I expected it to taste disgusting, but it's really not bad.
Another amazing surprise, my sister said it looks like I've lost some weight, so I got on the scale today expecting little or no loss at all, but I was SHOCKED when I saw I'd lost 18 lbs! WOW! This product is fantastic and I'd reccomend it to anyone!"

I am hoping that since I have started back on the ACV my blood pressure will be regulated again, and my heart palpitations will disappear."

I'm currently on my third day of menses, and noticed that my bleeding so much less. I've also have a slight fever with an on-going, but bearable headache. Took aspirin, but it didn't go away. Now i'm worried that my fever could be due to my menses slowing down due to the ACV? is this bad? please advise"

Dosage: 2 TBSP of Apple Cider Vinegar in 8 oz of water 3x a day. You must continue to drink it throughout the day if you want your flow to slow down. It will speed back up after a few hours if you don't!"

I have just started taking ACV today. I am currently on Ogeterel birth control and I don't like the way it makes me feel. I was just put on this birth control a week ago to help with my heavy cycles. The bleeding has stopped, but I am hoping that when I have been on the ACV it will help with my cycles. Can you please let me know if I can get off of the birth control and still use the ACV with baking soda.
I have also read there is a pill form for the ACV. Is it as effective? Also, how long do you take the ACV? Is it everyday and is it okay to take for a long period of time? This website is very informative and I am very Thankful!!!
Thanks in advance!
Monica"

[YEA] 05/20/2009: Nads from Toronto, Ontario writes: "I am very, very happy today because I prayed to God to help to find a cure to my promblem and he did. I suffer with fibriod and cyst since I was 25 years old. I had a myomectomy to remove them in 1997 and they grew back with a vengenace. I then had terrible periods with heavy clothing and excruciating pains. I had to be wearing pampers as pads were always causing my clothes to be messed up. I also had very irregular periods and infertility. After still having the same problem after my surgery I went to a Iredologist and Naturapathic doctor who gave me a 3 days fasting and cleansing along with her own medicines and instruction of what not to eat. My period regulated (I now had regular cycle which I never had since the age of 16)and the pain and heavy bleeding went away. Three years later I came off the vegetarian diet and two years after that the problem started again. I still was unable to conceive and worst my periods became very very irregular as the years progressed. In 2005 I saw my period and it never came again until middle 2006. Then once in 2007 then again three times April,May and June 2008 after I had used flaxseed oil recommed by my friend to simulate its arrival. I did not see my period after that and in 2009 I became very depress because the flaxseed oil was not working I then thought I was in menopause I then was led by God to this site and must say the ACV, Blackstrap Molasses and 2 Flaxseed oil tablet has now so far restore my period with no heavy bleeding nor pain. I hardly feel the bulky fibriods nor the symptoms of the fibriods or cyst. I however still have not gotten pregnant yet. I am still hoping and praying this will happen soon.
Can anyone tell me of something that can assist me in getting pregnant after having myomectomy surgery. Thank you all very much."

In 2007 after I demanded an ultrasound (had a tummy as if i was 4mths pregnant)to figure out why my abdomen was getting bigger and not getting pregant. I was informed i had a fibroid. 6mths later after another ultrasound, was informed the fibroid grew 3x in size and now i had an additional small fibroid. immediately my period became out of control! could not go to work or go outside during my first 3days(it was almost as if someone shot me!)the dr said the only resolution was to have myomectomy which i had jan of 2008. as i was healing and getting ready to return back to work, all of sudden wasnt feeling well, went to the dr and SUPRISE I WAS PREGNANT only 2mths post surgery. I delivered my beautiful boy nov 2009 pregnancy and delivery went vry well. so dont loose hope i wish you well."
[SIDE EFFECTS] 01/11/2012: Barkha from Dubai, Uae replies: "Hi I have a fibroid 2.2 in my uterus as well as polyps and endo thick wall since last two years I was bleeding heavily for around 10 days five months back this worsened and my periods would not stop. The doctor did a D&C on me in August and there was no malignant issue after five weeks of D&C. I got my menses which did not stop I was again bleeding heavily and getting big clots. The doctor put me on primolut N to regulate. When I stopped after 20 days I got my menses and I was back again to heavy bleeding. Again the doctor asked me to take primolut. Two weeks back I came across this website and immediately went and bought ACV and soda bicarb and also unsulphured molasses and started having this along with primolut. When I stopped the pill and got my menses the first day was okay but the second day was the worst of my life I had HUGE clot of blood almost the length and breadth of my pad and when I went to the toilet it fell off on the potty I was scared seeing the size of that... But after that I felt as if my body has settled down I had no more clots but as always the bleeding did not stop until even the 6th day and I was told to take primolut again...Can Ted or anyone tell me why this happened? I have been religiously having ACV twice a day and molasses once or twice a day but still am bleeding, can ACV and primolut be taken together? Thanks so much in advance for any response- appreciate it.""
