Menopause Remedies
"The word menopause literally means the permanent physiological, or natural, cessation of menstrual cycles, from the Greek roots 'meno' (month) and 'pausis' (a pause, a cessation). In other words, menopause means the natural and permanent stopping of the monthly female reproductive cycles, and in humans this is usually indicated by a permanent absence of monthly periods or menstruation.
The word is commonly used in regard to human females, where menopause happens more or less in midlife, signaling the end of the fertile phase of a woman's life. Menopause is perhaps most easily understood as the opposite process to menarche.
Menopause in women cannot however simply be defined as the permanent "stopping of the monthly periods", because in reality what is happening to the uterus is quite secondary to the process. For medical reasons, the uterus is sometimes surgically removed (hysterectomy) in a younger woman, and after this her periods will cease permanently and the woman will technically be infertile, but as long as at least one of her ovaries still functions, the woman will not have entered menopause. This is because even without the uterus, ovulation, and the release of the sequence of reproductive hormones that are an essential part of the reproductive cycles, will continue until the time of menopause is reached." [YEA] 03/04/2008: Sharon from Santa Fe, NM: "After menopause, I seemed to be bloated in my midsection most of the time. My lower stomach was puffy most of the time. I'm a thin person, and thought this was weight gain due to menopause & quitting smoking. Ond day I took 2 activated charcoal capsules for gas, and I ended up spending a lot of time in the bathroom that day. By that evening, I realized that my stomach was flat again! I figured that the charcoal had detoxified my system!! I will continue to take the charcoal once or twice weekly now. I am extremely happy with the results!!"

I don't sleep because of night sweats, so I get headaches its a vicious circle..... Until I started taking 2 tablespoons of ACV before bed and it's freaking amazing! The flashes are still there but have decreased by 95%. I wish I would have known about this 3 years ago. Thank you ACV you have given me back my life."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 07/10/2010: Ibiza from New York, NY: "I have been suffering from hormone disruption that I believe was caused by exposure to environmental toxins. I started having hot flashes 2 1/2 years ago. It took me a while to make the connection between toxins and my body because of my age (in 40's). Anyway, always an advocate of natural remedies, I tried maca. It worked like a dream and my hot flashes disappeared for a few months. Then they returned and the maca no longer worked. To make a long story short, I've tried many different herbs and natural formulas, nothing has worked. I found this site and eagerly tried drinking organic ACV twice daily. I can't remember the amount, I think 1 or 2 tablespoons in water. It worked for one day. What's worse is that it had a HORRIBLE effect on my teeth. Plaque and sensitivity increased. (I have now started oil pulling organic unrefined coconut oil and even after the first time, the plaque on the my teeth that I used to feel with my tongue, has disappeared. What a God-send! I thought that it was downhill all the way, concerning my teeth).
Anyway, after a week of still having hot flashes and feeling my teeth degrade (even after brushing my teeth after drinking the ACV AND also using a straw), I gave up on it. Maybe because the root of my issue is toxins and not a natural reproductive process, the ACV and other remedies are not working. What I have found is that some things work for one day. It's like my body would be curious about the new substance and take a break from producing hot flashes to spend time dealing with the new substance, then, once it figured it out, go back to making the hot flashes. In doing research, I've discovered that my liver has probably been overworked. I now eat a very plain cleaning diet of veggies, fruits, nuts and beans. I think I am overly yang and need to become more yin. I also plan to renew my yoga practice because I know that yoga is SUPER for the liver (especially any forward bend). I can't do a stronger cleanse because it over works my liver causes a greater hormonal imbalance. I also started drinking a quart of sage and milk thistle tea a day. After 2 months of this diet and tea, my hot flashes have been reduced. Now it just seems like I have "heat sensitivity" where if it's hot (and it's been over 90) I get a flash. But if I feel cool, I'm fine. Lastly, along with the hot flashes, the sweating odor was a nightmare. I learned here about using 1/2 of a fresh organic lime to rub over my body (where it was sweating), wait 10 minutes and shower. This has been FANTASTIC! I also use an all natural organic lemongrass soap or the popular peppermint castille soap. But even if I run out of the soap and use another, the lime has performed a miracle. Limes have antibacterial properties that prep my body so that the sweating doesn't create funk."

[YEA] 04/04/2009: Abby from San Francisco, Ca: "I'm so glad I found your website. I am 50 and going through SEVERE menopause. Hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, hair loss, loss of memory etc. etc. I started the ACV about 5 weeks ago. I used a splash of ACV in ice water and drink glasses of it all day. By the 3rd week no more hot flashes. Then in my 5th week they came back almost as strong as before I started using the ACV. I couldn't figure it out. What had I done wrong? Went back to your website and I realized that I had not exercised the 4th week (I always exercise at least 2x a week). Too busy. I added baking soda (1/4 tsp)to the ACV water today and I love it. The salt in baking soda improves the taste of the ACV water. I'm back on track with the exercise. I've increased the splashes of ACV (approx. 2-3 Tbsp) I am a little worried about the amount of sodium in baking soda. My BP is perfect thank goodness. I also suffer from Allergy induced Asthma. I have not used an inhaler or taken a pill for that in 5 weeks. It's spring time here and everyone around me is suffering with allergies, but not me. Little aches and pains that I had are gone. I think that just as exercise helped us with PMS, exercise will help us with Menopause. My body might be fighting 3 things, Allergies, Asthma and Menopause. So I need to increase my fight. Exerecise, yes. Increase ACV, yes. Baking soda, yes but in limited amounts. I will keep you posted. Abby"

[YEA] 08/14/2007: Lynette from Keller , TX: "I became aware of high blood pressure about a month ago and at that time realised it may have been running high for many months. I had had a high reading twice at the dentist but didn't realise it was of concern. My husband monitors his BP so I had him take mine and it was 132/95. That was exactly four weeks ago. I immediately cut salt out of my diet and probably get less than 500 mg of sodium all day. I cut out sugar in most all forms and began eating lots of veg and fruit, I try to swim and do yoga most days or workout at the gym. I started drinking 2 tsp ACV with honey and distilled water 2 - 3 times a day. Initially with the honey my BP spiked high again and I had a day of feeling really bad. I switched to sweetening the vinegar with stevia and after four weeks my bp reading today was 104/68 - it has been steadily decreasing since the first day of altering my lifestyle. It has read as low as 98 /64. The biggest reductions seem to come from the ACV and from hot yoga. I do feel wonderful, best I've felt in years . The ACV has cleared up an annoying allergy that I have had for at least two years now. I have been doing oil pulling too for the past couple weeks and it also seems to help. Not quite sure which is doing which but I know I have more energy , better focus in addition to the bp reduction. I am 51 and have fewer symptoms from menopause as well."

[YEA] 10/06/2007: Alice from Lincoln, CA: "I was feeling very bad in many different ways (mostly from anemia) when I found your site. The most pressing problem I was having was high blood pressure and water retention that had come on quite suddenly and was making me feel like I might explode. The DR gave me meds, of course, they really weren't working (avg BP 160/95 with meds)and I thought I should try other methods rather than have him raise the dosage, and besides, why was I suddenly having this problem?
I had tried ACV along with my mother many years ago when I was a teenager to help with winter athritis and sore throats, but I had forgotten about it. So after reading about it on your site, I immediately started by having 2tbls ACV +1/4tsp baking soda and a little agave nectar for sweetner in a mug of hot water. Within a couple hours of my first mug I was up and about feeling better. My grown son could not believe the transformation. He happened to come by for a visit right when I was drinking that first dose and I changed right before our eyes. I'm so glad he was here to see it so I know I'm not imagining things. I continued using it at least twice a day. The first night I felt so good in my skin, it was wonderful. It took several weeks to get off the BP meds, I had only been on them several weeks before starting ACV so I think I had not become dependent on them. Other people should be very careful about changing their BP meds, DR should monitor this. The water retention problem got better and better each day and finally disappeared after a couple weeks. Last BP check at DRs was 135/85, not bad.
Amazingly, and without me expecting it, my hot flashes that had appeared with a vengence at the same time as the high BP, completely disappeared at that first mugful. It took me a couple days to realize it, but I have not had one since, not ONE hot flash since, and they were rolling in just about one an hour, and believe me they were very thoroughly HOT.
I very patiently waited before writing in to you, and it is over 5 months later now, and I have my mug once a day or more, even while staying away from home (I have been sad to leave organic ACV behind in hotel rooms because I don't know of a good way to travel with it by air). I believe my digestion is better and elimination more regular though I would not have said before that I was particularly troubled in that area. It helps my overall sense of well-being. I can certainly tell if I haven't had some for a day-- I just feel off without it.
I have to add, though, sometimes my ACV doesn't sound good, it kind of hits my stomach funny, gives me a hollow feeling, and sometimes I feel like it heats me up, not quite a hot flash, but not desirable for someone who's had too many hot flashes. I don't know what this aversion is all about, but I manage to make myself have some, even if just a more diluted version of it and in cooler water. I am always glad that I did. After reading more, I think I will try the baking soda in water alone, or the lemon juice with baking soda in water next time the ACV just doesn't sound good.
Thank you so much for this site. I am determined to continue trying things until I feel like I remember I once felt--really well and useful."

I found this sight three weeks ago and began taking 2 TBL spoons of ACV in 8oz of orange juice every morning. I really have had good results with my diastolic pressure but my systolic is actually higher. Another nice change has been more energy and my skin is nicer..."

[YEA] 08/21/2008: Catlin from Austin, TX: "8/21/08 Aging thru Menopause
People always thought my father was our brother because he was blessed with great genetics, looking 10 - 15 years younger than his age and for many years I was the same.
However, when I turned 50, all sorts of aging began to happen. Menopause brought 30 lbs of extra weight, dry, flaky rashy skin, under-active thyroid and bloated stomach, itchy-smelly-flaky scalp, weak tearing nails, diabetes, tinitis, skin rashes, weeping eyes, joint pain, gingivitis with 2 deep gum pockets, hair falling out and not growing, losing hair and eyebrows, lethargy, moodiness, unexplained anger, dark eye circles, insomnia, night sweats, smelly body and breath and the list goes on... Needless to say people were calling me MAAAM and treating me like I was an unattractive old lady. I'm not so vain that I want to be noticed all the time but I certainly did not want to be ignored. Looking for natural skin cleansing remedies, I found your site. Whoa, what a FIND. I have stayed up late almost every night just reading all the testimonials. I have so far tried: VCO, Oil Pulling, and ACV. The results are fantastic: Silky skin, stronger teeth, hair, nails. No joint pain, lessening of tinnitis, no skin rashes, increased energy, body and breath smells great, blood suger stabilizing, losing goiter/thyroid neck, stomach is going down (my husband says), dark spots and eye circles gone, no mood swings, feel happier, lost 3 pounds, teeth whiter and firmer with pink gums (still working on the 2 pockets), scalp itch is receding and my skin looks AMAZINGLY young!--- all of this has happened within these first 10 days! I asked my husband to check out my skin because he knows I constantly battle face rashes and he said, "It looks wonderful with that makeup you have on". I was not wearing any! And guess what? I feel attractive, never mind what others feel, I'm not ignoring ME! 10 days I tell you!
Even as things are getting better, my eyes still weeped and were glazy and itched like the dickins, I didn't want to put anything on them except eye drops which only brought relief for about 30 minutes. So, today I applied ACV onto a cotton ball and lightly swiped my closed eyelids. OH MY GOD! Instant relief! I could even see better; things were not so fuzzy and the constant redness started disappearing; so, this is a work in progress.
Here's what I do internally: I oil-pull 10-15 minutes every morning and evening. I drink 2 TABLSP of ACV in a mug (8oz) of water morning and evening (thru a straw). Around noon, when my energy usually lags, I take 1 tablspoon of VCO. Interestingly, it cuts my appetite and I find myself eating out of habit, not hunger.
Here's what I do externally: After shower, I spray ACV and water onto my skin, let dry, then apply coconut oil lightly all over, then use a light cologne. I apply ACV with a cotton ball onto my face, let it dry, then dab and rub VCO with water on it. I wear no makeup except filling in my eyebrows (until they grow back), and apply lipstick on top of VCO. Each morning I wake up expecting to see a change-back and I don't. Thanks a whole bunch!"
Replies07/26/2009: Biddy from Co Kerry Ireland, Ireland replies: "Can you tell me what VCO is short for? I saw it on some feedback in the Menopause section. She uses ACV Oil Pulling and VCO to help her symptoms. Thanks Biddy"

05/28/2011: Reagen from Hanahan, Sc replies: "I am soon going to be 34 yrs old. Last year, I had to have a complete hysterectomy because of adenomyosis and endometriosis. I've been trying to keep up with HRT (vivelle dot and prometrium) but it's expensive, even with insurance, and I just can't afford it right now. So I'm in full blown menopause right now and it really stinks... The hot flashes, overeating (I'm already obese as it is), mood swings, headaches, insomnia, worsening skin issues, etc, etc, etc... I will definitely be trying this out. I despise vinager but need to overcome that so my health can improve. Thanks!"
11/25/2011: Caitlin from Austin, Tx replies: "Reagen from Hanahan - I HAD endometriosis. How did I cure it? I eliminated WHEAT and high Carbs! History: I bled continuously for 2 months to where I was damaging chairs in pizza restaurants (right through my many pads and clothing) and continuously discharging a liver-like substance that went from quarter size to the size of 1/2 my palm. Within 2 weeks of eliminating WHEAT, the bleeding stopped and I went back into a normal 3.5 day monthly period. Now that I'm aging thru menopause, I don't get those hot flashes unless I eat WHEAT in any form &/or my carbs go over the 50 daily carbs I estimate I need to keep menopause symptoms (bleeding, flushing, confusion, "madness", hotness, fibroids, horrible skin.. ) at bay.
Also, I lose weight so well on THIS way of eating: 1 FRUIT, all VEGETABLES, SWT. POTATOES (no potatoes) & 10 oz MEAT daily. The key to it ALL, I've found, is don't give up, don't give in; be consistent; plan to be miserable when you are not! Read many health books such as wheat belly & make it paleo at your library. As earth clinic's existence proves, someone has your problem and has solved it. Don't get depressed - Get Busy! Keep reading and implementing safe knowledge & you WILL find what works for you. Sending Love & Peace your way - CAT"

[YEA] 07/29/2007: Cynthia from Henderson, NV: "Responding to the emails posted, I think Valentina is closer to the "answers." After a vaginal hysterectomy (kept my ovaries) I started realizing a lot more hot flashes (from 1 or 2 a day to 5-10 hotflashes per day). Took black cohosh which minimized all, but got tired of using it and wanted to help out my liver. I got mad and headed for the organic food section...did a liver cleanse, put myself on 75-90% organic and several weeks later I realized I hadn't had a hot flash for a week, they fluctuate now between 1 a week to none. Now I am seriously studying the ph aspect of my body chemistry. Valentina's email was reinforcement and I am sure I am on the right path. I am now adjusting my grocery list to include a lot more Alkaline forming foods and fewer acid forming foods. Wish me luck. I am 53."

I have always looked much younger than I am - Here is what I have always done: * Never take drugs of any kind - no aspirin, no antibiotics, no alcohol, no smoking, This is most important. * I eat raw salads daily and use generous quantities of Apple Cider Vinegar - Organic - and Organic Olive Oil. Most of the food I consume is raw and occasionally I add a little cottage cheese or organic cheese in small amounts and about one time per month, I eat organic kefir or yogurt - The only cooked food I have is vegetable soup that I make from organic vegetables. I do NOT eat any grains, rice, beans etc. Everyone asks me where I get my protein. Apparently I don't need it.
* Still have not gone through menopause, my hair has no gray, my teeth are just like when I was young - I do yoga daily and callanetics and am very active physically. Most people I know are sick with all kinds of things and they run for a prescription immediately - this, I believe, was the biggest factor for me. Oh one more thing - I also use lots of fresh garlic daily in salads. This may sound difficult, but I find it extremely easy to live like this and cook so minimally. No grease in the kitchen!"

[YEA] 07/04/2007: Patricia from Mooresville, IN: "Re Night Sweats: I changed to a vegan diet and am no longer having night sweats. Eliminate all meat, all milk products, eggs, and as much oil and butter from the diet as you possibly can.
Don't eat wheat products but change to rye bread, ezekiel bread or other good whole grain bread. You can have sugar in small quantities and use fruit spreads, jams and jellies on toast. You can have refried beans on tortillas or soft tacos with as many of the fixings as you like - just no cheese. Lose weight, stop having night sweats, and control diabetes too. There is information and a free booklet dowload at this website: http://www.pcrm.org/health/prevmed/diabetes_book/index.html.
After three days I lost several pounds, reduced blood pressure, had tons of energy and stopped all night sweats."

HEMP OIL AND HEADSTANDS
Ratings:

[YEA] 10/05/2007: Lilac from Fairfax, VA: "I am 52. In early Sep I was starting to have hot flashes. They lasted for only 3 minutes at a time, but I was concerned that they might get worse. I refuse to take HMT. ' I started standing on my head yoga-style. That seemed to rebalance my metabolism, as my weight normalized. (I looked on the web to find out how to do them. As long as the arms and hands are positioned right, yogic headstands are surprisingly easy to do. I had to start out with my knees bent, but after 2 weeks, I could straighten my legs and maintain the position for 2 minutes. It's now been a month, and I can do a headstand for 12 minutes.) I am now convinced that headstands are great for weight loss, as well as overall circulation. On 20 Sep I started oil pulling. That made my lips fuller and redder, and my eyes seemed less dry. Still I was having hot flashes. I tried one cold shower, but I just couldn't do it again. I stopped taking hot showers, adjusting the temperature to warm instead. In doing a web search on menopause, I realized that I probably was short of vitamin E in my diet. In searching the aisles of the health food section of the grocery store, I noticed that hemp oil was high in vitamin E. On 3 Oct I took a tablespoon of hemp oil. On 4 Oct I realized that I had not had a hot flash. On 5 Oct I realized that the sheets were dry all night and when I woke up. It seems that the nutrients found in hemp oil have cured me of hot flashes. I should mention that I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian, but I eat little dairy and am closer to a vegan. I avoid wheat. I take a capful of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water in the morning and at night. Sometimes I have more ACV and water throughout the day. Since I eat no fish, I take an iodine supplement. I also take a calcium supplement. I eat plenty of nuts a soynut butter. Apparently various things combine to help me through menopause, but the 2 most important things I've added seem to be hemp oil and headstands. Hope this info helps someone."

[YEA] 09/26/2009: Meddy from Springfield, Oh, USA: "For the past year, I have been a wreck! I am post-menopausal and the hot flashes and emotional ups and downs were making me feel like I was losing it. I wanted to edure this and go all natural, figuring this was a natural part of my body's process...I could not take this one more second. I went to see my Dr. and begged her for HRT's...anything to give me relief. She is a huge pill pusher so I was rather shocked when she told me to dring soy milk. I asked her about bioidentical therapy and her reply was, "drinking soy milk is bioidentical"... I know there will be those who disagree, I can only speak for myself. I started drinking about 8 oz of soy milk right away. For me, it has been nothing short of a miracle. I feel like a human being againl. The depression is gone and so are the hot flashes. If I do feel one coming on, I run and get about 4 oz in me and they immediately subside. I cannot tell you what a blessing this has been. I have not experienced one negative side effect. If this helps just one person who is suffering like I was, please give it a try."

One medication that has done this to me is antidepressants (not all but some). I don't know about other medications. But I wonder if you have tried self stimulation, using a vibrator. If this works for you, you do not have to consider drugs or other factors. My experience with antidepressants was that there was sexual arousal but nothing could bring about climax."

04/23/2009: Marianne from Atlanta, USA replies: "Thank you to all of you who reply to my question.Yes, I use a vibrator some time, but this resolves my problem just on the surface and I do have a male
friend with who I meet once a week but again it does not resolve my problem to the core. I would say maybe is something related to my nerves and emotions or my chemistry. In my young age I was told that a women doesn't need a man,or a sexual pleasure, and the sex is a shamefull thing.Altho I thought that I replaced this wrong believe with a new and more positive one, it looks like it affects me in my intimacy with a partner. I will try Gotu- ola and see if I'll feel different.Thank you again to y'all.
Marianne"

MULTIPLE REMEDIES

10/29/2010: Melinda from Tucson, Arizona: "Hello everyone,
I am 38, I have posted on the site before, and it is a blessing. Here is some news I wanted to share, in hopes of helping others. I started feeling like I was having early menopause symptoms, because my monthly periods were all out of wack, I felt like I was going crazy on some sort of emotional roller coaster, I was moody, and had other early unpleasant menopause symptoms. Anyway, after some research I went to Wal-Mart and bought a bottle of Spring Valley brand Fish, Flaxseed, Borage Oil, Omega 3, 6, 9(that's exactly what the bottles states on the front too). I also bought a bottle of Natrol brand Menopause Formula(purple bottle with female symbol)This has a large array of ingredients such as calcium, magnesium, soy extract, red raspberry extract, and 11 other herbs. I take the first one(fish oil, etc. ) 2 pills a day when I wake up, and the second one at night before I go to bed(also 2 pills). I have not been taking them quite a week, and have already started feeling better. My mood has improved, I feel ALOT less emotional, and cranky, and I was even able able to stop taking my ant-depressant Zoloft! Also, I was feeling hungry all the time, and so I bought some slim fast as a between meal boost, and have been drinking two a day of those, at the very least I figured the vitamins in it would help, but I have been feeling less hungry. At night, before I go to bed, I also drink alot of water, it helps make me feel fuller, and may possibly be helping me sleep better."
04/22/2012: Jac from Agenda 21 Sector 2, Slabovia replies: "I do hate to tell you this, but slimfast is woodfiber. Read the ingredients. The garbage trashes your body. This may sound nuts, but healthy fat is what your body and brain thrive on... No hydrolyzed/hydrogenated crap, just because it's vegetable doesn't make it good. Unsalted butter, cheeses, brie. Homogenized milk is DISGUSTING. Everytime I intend to study up on it I get grossed out. And I study a LOT."
