Dissolve Kidney Stones

Updated: 02/03/2012

rss feed

"Kidney stones, also called renal calculi, are solid concretions (crystal aggregations) of dissolved minerals in urine; calculi typically form inside the kidneys or bladder. The terms nephrolithiasis and urolithiasis refer to the presence of calculi in the kidneys and urinary tract, respectively.

Renal calculi can vary in size from as small as grains of sand to as large as a golf ball. Kidney stones typically leave the body by passage in the urine stream, and many stones are formed and passed without causing symptoms. If stones grow to sufficient size before passage - on the order of at least 2-3 millimeters - they can cause obstruction of the ureter. The resulting obstruction with dilation or stretching of the upper ureter and renal pelvis as well as spasm of muscle, trying to move the stone, can cause severe episodic pain, most commonly felt in the flank, lower abdomen and groin (a condition called renal colic). Renal colic can be associated with nausea and vomiting due to the embryological association of the kidneys with the intestinal tract. Hematuria (bloody urine) is commonly present due to damage to the lining of the urinary tract." (Wikipedia)

01/07/2006: Cyndi from Durham, NC writes: "I have suffered intermittently from kidney stones for nearly 9 years. One was so bad I had to have surgery to remove it. Later, my grandmother was hospitalized with a kidney stone and told me about a home remedy given to her by a nurse and believe me, this really works! Mix 2 oz of olive oil and 2 oz of lemon juice, drink it straight down and follow with a large glass of water at the first sign of stone pain. The stone(s) will pass within 24 hours. I have eliminated at least 8 stones with this remedy and have not gone back to the urologist since I started taking this."

12/26/2010: Bfroehling from Sunnyvale, CA, USA replies: "I really appreciated this helpful information. I experienced a kidney stone on Christmas Eve and never had one before. (I have high tolerance for pain and this was high on the painOmeter!! ). By the next morning I searched and found the olive oil and lemon juice remedy. Within the hour I did experience some relief and was grateful. I started to thing about the Chemical implications and why the oil (to lubricate) and the lemon juice (to breakdown the stone) was a good combo. Then I saw the Apple cider vinegar which made perfect sense being a better acidic approach to breaking down the stone. I went and got a bottle and took a few swigs. By Christmas day I was much improved and in very little pain. Thanks again for the help!"

05/04/2011: Terra from Citrus Heights, CA replies: "My dad just had a spinal surgery done was released from the hospital after a few days feeling great. A day after being home he had severe left side pain, so we went back to ER and sure enough it is a kidney stone. I made him the lemon juice and olive oil remedy to drink and within the next 24 hours it came out. This was very helpful beings he just had the surgery and needed to recover from that as well. Definitely going to remember this one, Thank you so much!"

[YEA]  01/05/2012: Becca from Tucson, Az replies: "I am so happy I found this site! I have had numerous kidney stones over the years and always ended up in the hospital to pass them. I felt that old familiar pain yesterday and decided to try to find relief at home and I found this site. I tried the olive oil and lemon juice remedy, except I decided to just use four ozs of lemon juice instead and leave out the olive oil since I didn't have any. I slugged down the lemon juice and then followed it up with 2 more doses of 2 ozs of lemon juice in a cup of hot water with a small amount of sugar (hot lemonade!!! ) and within an hour my pain was down by half. I continued drinking hot lemonade and this morning I can't even tell I passed a kidney stone. It's just amazing. You saved me a lot of time, money and agony of going to the hospital. I hate hospitals! Thanks so much!"
01/05/2012: Emir from Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia replies: "Hi there from Malaysia. I am 33 male. I started experiencing lower left back pain one month ago. The pain occurs just above the buttocks and not higher up where the kidneys are. And the pain only occurs when I bend over to the front right. Earlier I brushed it off as muscle pain. But now after 1 month, the pain is still there and spreaded to both left and right kidney areas.

I went for a checkup, did blood test and urine, doc says both are fine. Done KUB X-ray and ultrasound found out my right kidney is a mild hydronephrosis (swelling due to backup or obstruction of urine in ureter). This worries me more since we cannot see a dilated right ureter in the X-ray. The left kidney seems ok and left ureter is dilated as normal. I'm due for a CT scan end of this month.

Meanwhile I found this website and tried both the ACV (2 oz 2 oz of wter), and the 2 oz lemon juice mixed with 2 oz of olive oil. Nothing seems to come out when peeing. But I do notice that 10 minutes after gulping the ACV, the pain on the left seems to be reduced by quite a lot. Does ACV has some kind of anaesthetic characteristics??

Anyway, to describe my problem further, the pain that I have, is not as "giving birth". It is just a mild and dull but needle pricking sharp kind of pain. It seems to be worse when I am lying down esp when I go to sleep at night. I for sure will wake up 3-4 times each night because of the sharp pain, and I will try to adjust my sleeping position to ease it. I also experience numbness at both left and right pinky and ring fingers if I put my arms under the pillow (Ulnar?).

I am beginning to think that my problem is nerve related but due to the hydronephrosis I have I am pretty confused and depressed with all this, that I shed 4kg in the 1 month. I used to be 82kg 1 month ago and now I am 78kg. Does anyone have this kind of problem, do share.... Thanks."

[YEA]  01/07/2012: Jojmom from Southlake, Texas, Usa replies: "I am so grateful for this advise. I took a shot of the mixture yesterday and already this morning peices of the stone are coming out. I'm not in near as much pain as I was before. I also read the article about the "Jump and Bump". Worth trying too. It's not this OR that, it's this AND that! To our health!"
01/09/2012: Alina from Dacula, Georgia replies: "This question is for Emir from Malaysia; Emir, what did you find out about your mild hydronephrosis; my 15 yrs. old son was diagnosed with it last summer but the doctors didn't do anything for him; just sent him home from the hospital with tylenol for pain; he's not in pain now, but I wonder about the implications of this if left untreated???"
01/10/2012: Emir from Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia replies: "Alina from Dacula, Hi, I haven't found out anything about my mild hydronephrosis to my kidney yet till today. Tomorrow will be going for a CT-scan (first CT-scan). Ever since I was diagnosed with hydronephrosis, doc gave me Ural (urine alkalinizer) 1 sachet 3 times a day after meal because he fears for Uric Acid stones that are invisible in both Ultrasound and KUB X-Rays. I would suggest you take your son to do a normal CT-scan in case of stones. Not sure how expensive it is over there, but here it is about usd200 for a normal ctscan of the abdomen. For my case it is weird because I feel no pain at all if I am sitting down or in vertical position. Just when I lie down to sleep, for a long time (>1 hour), then the pain starts, and it is more of a dull pain, with occassional needle pricking pain at the flank area randomly. To be honest I am scared of what the outcome of tomorrow's ct scan.... Really stressed now.. And boy do I regret for not drinking more plain water everyday instead of just coffee and sugary water and sodas.... :("
01/18/2012: Emir from Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia replies: "Just to update on my case. CT scan came back normal. No stone was seen.

Doc said not to worry, everything's fine and suggests that it probably is my muscle/nerves.

Bah. I am taking it 50%, because I still have a dull bilateral flank pain.

So, I just need to relax and monitor how things are in the future.

This sucks really."

01/19/2012: Elaine from Dallas, Tx replies: "Thank you for posting the lemon olive oil remedy. Just took it and hope it will work for me. Praying for healing for all who suffer from kidney stones."
01/24/2012: Penguin from Akron, Ohio replies: "I am going to try this too. Not sure what is going on with me but for about 5 months, I have been having discomfort and a fullness sensation on/off just below and under my left ribs that radiates to my back around where my kidneys are. Sometimes the discomfort is sharp. It seems most uncomfortable when I wake up and does get better after I wake up. I have not had a fever, no vomiting, no diarrhea and no blood in the urine. All labs including BUN/creatinine have come back negative except I did test positive for mono. I do not have an enlarged spleen though which is usually classic for mono.

I also tested positive from an ultrasound for what my doctor describes to me as what they thought was a small stone on each kidney. She told me to wait 6-8 weeks and see if I feel better. I am halfway done with the wait and do not feel any better at all. My stomach has been upset on/off too and I feel pressure on my bladder on occasion with the urgency to urinate a significant amount in the morning when I wake up.

Does anyone else with kidney stones have any of these symptoms? I am trying the lemon juice tonight. However will pick up some olive oil tomorrow. (oh, and I have not been constipated at all but also did give myself a bowel regimen just in case and it did not take away my symptoms). Will let you know how the lemon juice works."

01/31/2012: Bruce from Ada, Oklahoma replies: "I will be 65 in August and had my first kidney stone when I was 25. I have had regular surgery once (100 stones removed from left kidney) and lithotripsy six times (3 times on each side). I have a half dozen stones in each kidney right now with the largest being about the size of a nickle in my right kidney. It is not coming out, in fact, all of them are too large to pass. I have been drinking about a gallon of distilled water daily and my wife cooks with distilled water. Kidney stone formation is down by 60% since we began this about ten years ago. My stones are calcium oxalate formed around uric acid molecules. I was totally off all calcium for 20 years until my doctor said to forget that because there was a study out that said diet makes no difference in people like me who have a hereditary issue. My father had them terribly bad, too.

I think I will try the lemon juice and olive oil thing for a while to see if it makes a difference. I am really tired of passing stones. Once after double lithotriply (both kidneys at the same time) I passed 143 stones during one urination episode and over 800 before they were all out from that one lithotrisy procedure. I have passed thousands of them and the largest was larger than a wooden kitchen match head. It was the largest stone my urologist had ever seen passed. Hopefully the lemon juice will help dissolve them. I honestly think the distilled water helps both because of the high ph and because there are no minerals in it."

Is there a dietary protocol along with this kidney cleanse? Should I be avoiding any particular foods while taking this olive oil-lemon juice mixture? Should I take it on an empty stomach? When you use a similar mixture for a liver cleanse, the fasting protocol is critical to the success of the cleanse. Staying away from any and ALL fat prior to the consumption of the olive oil mixture is also crucial."

01/10/2011: Yanosh from Tampa, Fl, Us replies: "Please if possible can we all share the size or approximate size of the stones if known. I am trying to pass a 12mm and an 8mm from my left kidney and most of the people are mentioning smaller sizes or no sizes at all. I am using the ACV method for a few days now and it does help me with the pain for sure, also noticed like the stone would have moved out of the kidney and getting close to my bladder. Are there anyone out there passed larger than 1mm stones or found that this remedy worked for them? I had uretheroscopy done a few weeks back for a 6mm stuck in my right ureter and have to tell you wasn't fun at all and now I am facing ELSW for my other two. Also is that possible that your stone just get dissolved and you never physically pass it?
Thank you"
01/10/2011: Brooke from Montgomery, Tx, Usa replies: "I would start immediately with Castor Oil packs right on top of the stone. The Castor oil helps them break down into smaller pieces so that you can pass them easily. I would keep them on for 2-4 hours every night until they pass - even longer if you are not working!! "
03/16/2011: Melissa Caldwell from Henderson, Nv. replies: "My daughter is having a kidney stone episode and I am going to try the Apple Cider Vinegar and was curious about the castor oil packs. How do I do that and should I place a heating pad over the pack? Thank you, Melissa"

04/09/2011: Cindy from Bundamba, Qld Aus. replies: "My Mum has had numerous stones over the years and yes pass all of them, being over 1mm. She knows she had a few sitting in one of her kidneys, with one being at least 10mm.This week she went to the urologist and after a course of baking soda tablets and she said " some other tablet that she hates", she didn't even know what it was, that she is stone free at the mo. but I am after a preventative for her with diabetics..... Can anyone help, because some cure the stones and upset the diabetes."
05/22/2011: Ouch from Nsw replies: "I'm a naturopathic student. I have calcium oxalate stones so I pay extra attention when they teach about those.

Uric acid stones can be dissolved. Calcium oxalate stones seem very difficult to dissolve. I'm trying to find out if its possible at all. Some websites say they can, but I have not read that in my textbooks yet, but I'll keep looking.

Nutrients to prevent formation of calcium oxalate stones. Magnesium and B6 together. Vitamin k. potassium."

07/12/2011: Mary from Temecula, California replies: "to del from NSW! Plz try black cherry juice (will help with uric acid) and a diet high in greens snd magnesium supplements. And stay very hydrated, try watermelon too , but it's a major diuretic, so be sure to drink more water than ever. Also, try asparagus juice (raw) with a few cans of coke (helps the oxolate stones emensly, but worth a try given asparagus diuretic properties). All of this is highly nutritious (except coke) and is well worth a try - please report back and I hope this helps your kidney!"
12/13/2011: Nicole from Minneapolis, Mn replies: "It's 8pm and at 6:45 pm I drank 4 oz. of fresh squeezed lemon juice followed by 4 oz. of extra virgin olive oil, followed by 1 liter of H2O.

My kidney stone pain was at about a 5/10, now it's at a 2/10. This is my second bout with the pesky buggers and a nurse I spoke with on the phone refused to even make me an appointment, rather, she insisted that I come to the emergency room tonight. I can't afford to, so I was planning on coming home and drinking a few beers-which also helped me with my first go round. However, I didn't like the side effects (drunkeness for a light weight like me).

This remedy is AMAZING!! I'm going to have another lemon juice EVOO elixer before bed. Gracias a Dios!"

12/26/2011: Homeopath from Sedona, Az replies: "There is a story of a doc long ago who had many physical problems. He ended up going to a homeopath who cured all but his recurrent kidney stones. He himself became a homeopath and decided to make a remedy from his kidney stones, which not only cured him but made the tartar fall from his teeth! A classical homeopath would have access to both remedies- one for oxalates and one for calcium. Potency should be 6 or 12c. You can also contact me at info(at)healthrays.com."

ALCOHOL AND KIDNEY STONES

QUESTION

[QUESTION]  01/05/2010: Jandrew from Naples, Florida writes: "can anyone tell me if alcohol or wine helps produce kidney stones. i know draft beer does but dont know about the above. thanks. going to try the apple cider"

Replies
07/05/2010: Chris from Miami, Fl replies: "Beer and wine contains oxolates and will reduce your risk of kidney stones. My wife could not believe the Urologist actually prescribed me to drink as much beer as possible to pass the stone!

As prevention wine and beer along with plenty of water will reduce kidney stone formation."
09/01/2010: No-nonsense from Tucson, Arizona replies: "Alcohol is your enemy when it comes to kidney stone formation. I also had a urologist recommend beer to pass kidney stones. She, like many urologists, didn't have a clue about nutrition. Yes, beer, like coffee, is a diuretic. But it also dehydrates you and contains oxalates (acid constituent in calcium oxalate kidney stones). If you want to pass a kidney stone, drink A LOT of water (I have passed 8 of them, I know). Always stay hydrated. There is a reason why Arizona is considered the kidney stone capital of the US, namely dehydration. That in combination with consuming chocolate, coffee, alcohol, soy products and other bitter substances (rhubarb, spinach, etc. ). The other danger is sugar. Sugar and artificial sweeteners. They deplete your body's ability to absorb magnesium, which helps make calcium soluble to the body. If you are not absorbing the calcium, then your body eliminates it, which means it passes through your kidneys, thereby increasing the chance of kidney stone formation. Avoid sugars and artificial sweeteners. I had a hard time changing my diet (oh, avoid nuts too), but your long-term health is more important than being able to enjoy a chocolate ice cream with nuts on top."
12/08/2010: Howard from Sarasota, Fl replies: "Yes, alcohol should be avoided according to any urologist who's up-to-date on research. All alcohol has oxalates, and research has figured out that oxalates are what causes most people's stones. If you have a stone removed thru surgery, or if you pee it out and capture it in a screen (they give you at the hospital but you can probably buy them), they can find out if it's an oxalate stone or not. But most of them are, so you should avoid oxalates as much as reasonable. They are in a lot of foods, and in all alcohol, so best to avoid alcohol so you're free to eat some oxalate foods like chicken, beef, fish, most veggies, most fruits and many nuts. You can eat some of the above, but if you eat a lot, your risk goes way higher. Since you need to eat and most foods have oxalates, better to cut the alcohol so you can eat normal foods more often."

[YEA]  11/15/2006: Kathy from West Salem, IL writes: "I took Shaklee's Alfalfa for my kidney stones. I had 3 large ones and Dr was set to blast them.Did a Cat Scan to locate them and was shocked to find them gone. He gave God the credit but I did drink lots of water and took 20 4 times a day of Alfalfa. Had read that someone else had done this and it worked for them. It worked for me too. For the bleeding I had in my first experience I have learned that Magnesium relieves that. I drank lots of water too. It cured 3 stones that the doctor described as bigger than a 50 cent piece. I really like the idea of the lemon juice and olive oil. But I tried that and like others it did not work for me. But appreciated knowing this to share with others that might find it works for them."

Replies
06/09/2008: Shazia from London, ENGLAND replies: "Are you sure you took 20 tablets 4 times a day as i have heard that alfalfa in excess cn lead to lupus (SLE). Also did it improve your skin?"
10/08/2011: Foundations4health from Houston, Tx replies: "In response to alfalfa causing lupus. It was my understanding that an amino acid known as L-canavanine is known to cause lupus like symptoms in those who have not been diagnosed with lupus. It has also been known to cause flare ups in those who have been diganosed with lupus. Alfalfa seeds and sprouts have high levels of this amino acid but the leaves have far lower levels.

So, it is not that alfalfa causes lupus but that a protein in alfalfa has been know to cause lupus like symptoms. This amino acid can be found in other foods.

I would say that the health benefits of alfalfa are well documented and favorable when used in moderation. If you have been diagnosed with lupus, an alternative to alfalfa might be the best route for you."

[YEA]  07/08/2011: Katy from Mt Carmel, Il, Usa writes: "I had kidney stones and every 3 yrs they would develop... So I began drinking alot of water with baking soda in it.. Since that helps the water be more drinkable if you have hard water. Anyway the baking soda changes the pH of the body so that stones can disolve. Mine were the size of a 50 cent piece so I didn't think it would do any good.

I also took 10 alfalfa every 3 hrs.. As that also helps the pH. On Tues was told these stones needed to be blasted.. Was to be back on following Tues.. And cat scan did not show any stones at all. You can be sure I was very happy about that. Now I have the other kind of stones.... Calcium type.. And the others were Uric acid type. So am trying the olive oil and lemon for these. Am sure it will work... because of many examples on the site."

One year later, pain again with a 1cm kidney stone visable on xray and a smaller one forming too. The doctor told him that he would not be able to pass this one, but he refused to be put in hospital coz of the ordeal he thru before.

With no insurance available I got on internet and looked for natural remedies, I made a mixture of apple cider vinegar with water and honey and made a pitcher of lemonaid every day and the herb Chanca Piedra (one capsule a day) 3 weeks went along, then he was uncomfortable but not bad. One night he passed the small one first and then the 1 cm. It was the most ugliest thing I ever saw. I never seen a man so happy in my life. I am a firm believer of the herb Chanca Piedra, now he takes one a day. Hope this helps someone."

I'm not sure of the size of them, but the doctor gave me medicine that enlarged the size of my tubes to help release the stones easier and also medicine to shrink the stones. I did not feel anything after that for about a year and half then got slight pain in my lower back (kidney area) turned out to be nothing and just recently (a year after the second episode) I've been having pretty bad pain so I've been looking up this stuff and everyone else is older doing these things so do you guys think it would be okay if I tried it? C.V. is an anti dolor, but it make K.S. soft enough to be passed easily no matter if still in the kidneys or stuck in the bladder. What I can't understand up to today is why the complete silence from the official medicine, not one G.P. in any country. I been between Europe and Australia seeing me suffering atrocious pains ever suggested it, they couldn't administer any drug, only in hospital a few times they give me some morphine or other strong pain killer, why...

It's now at least 15 years (I am now 57y.o.) that I just smile when I feel that the beast is coming, I get my A.C.V. Bottle and water and down with the job, 20 minutes or half an hour and it come out at the first urination. If I mention it to a doctor they look at me funny or pretend they did not hear, hypocrites. I don't like doctors or the medical institution "business" specially knowing that humanity needs them so much, they don't like when our pains don't bring them gain and they hate if we manage to come out of it by ourself, interest overcome compassion. I wonder how many other little secret are there that they aware about but virtually free and they do not say and try all the time to squelch people that generously and enthusiastically try to share their knowing. thanks Dr.Riki"

The reason nobody told you about ACV is because they don't make any money off of it. It is truly a business, and they aim to keep it that way. The body and nutrients of the earth are incredible and do quite well on their own, when properly used. For preventative measures for kidney stones, you may want to try magnesium supplementation-- people need to have a 1:1 or 1:1.5 ratio of magnesium and calcium, which rarely happens. Natural Calm magnesium powder is good b/c it's taken as a liquid and highly absorbable. Good Luck!"

Hope it works for other as well."

PLEASE HELP! IS IT POSSIBLE TO BREAK IT AT THIS STAGE, PLS HELP ME URGENTLY. Thanks"
01/12/2012: Wiscogirl from Hood River, Oregon, Usa replies: "Adjusting your urinary pH to be more alkaline (higher pH), which is what ACV does, to about 6.5 can reduce the size of a stone up to 10mm over a month. You can check your urine pH with test strips to make sure your in this range. Too high, 7.0 or more may increase the chance of calcium based stone forming. So probably won't shrink a 23mm stone that fast, Good luck!"

Supposedly I only have one, but after two days of using the vinegar I've had three white crystals appear in my strainer so far. Very small though, but you can feel them. I'm assuming that the one stone is breaking apart now? The strange this is, for me, I hurt in my back in the right kidney area for about a half hour after drinkng the vinegar. Everyone else stated that the pain immediately stopped. I hope I'm not doing wrong by continuing. I'm going to try to save the crystals but they're so darned small. But thanks again for posting about the vinegar.

Oh, one more thing. Why is it that one day you're cramping badly in your left abdomen and the next day in your right kidney? Can a stone in one kidney cause pain in the opposite kidney and surrounding area?"

Another think is my urologist told me to drink lemonade. I was beginning to get sick of it so I tried tomato juice out for a few days and that seemed to help. I am praying that I do not get another one in the meantime."

Ashlee, If you want to avoid the pain of passing any more kidney stones you already have in your body, drink pure apple juice. Buy unsweetened pure apple juice and drink about 4 cups a day for at least a week. This will start to disolve the stones and they will become small enough to pass without pain. By the way, the tomato juice is good for your liver. Daily ACV or fresh squeezed lemon juice in water is a good prevention of larger (painful) stones."

[YEA]  02/01/2011: Megan from Belfast, Northern Ireland writes: "I have suffered with kidney stones for several years. I had a constant dull pain in my back, and passing the stones was terrible. I was diagnosed by our doctor, but was unable to go into surgery since I have 2 small children and no reliable babysitters. Intercourse with my husband was constantly painful due to the stones, and it was embarrassing when I experienced pain from them in public.

My friend came to visit and suggested apple cider vinegar as it had cured her stones. I took 2 shot glasses of apple cider vinegar that night (without any water) but was skeptical. But within hours the dull pain in my back was completely gone!

In the morning, I took about 2 shots of ACV and I passed several large stones without any pain.

Occasionally now, my stones come back as I am prone to them, but 2 shots of apple cider vinegar does the trick everytime. Completely amazing!"

[YEA]  04/15/2011: Hadidx from Oakwood, Ga, Usa replies: "YEA!

About 2 years ago I suffered from kidney stones (most likely caused from dehydration due to my foolish lack of drinking water and bad diet! )which had me keeled over on my living room floor in a fetal position multiple times. I drove myself to the ER when it got to the point where I worried about my life! The doctor told me I had kidney stones, and would probably need laser surgery to break them up and "heal". After a $5K consultation, I was released with some antibiotics and pain killers to think it over.

After hours of extensive research (mainly from earthclinic!), I came across ACV treatments for the first time in my life (I'm now 36). I drank 4 oz. Shots of Braggs ACV with 2-4 oz. Shots of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) every hour, and the next day (the day after I was in the ER), I urinated out the kidney stones as more of a dust rather than the massively painful stone. Felt on a scale of discomfort of 1-10, maybe a. 5. ACV and EVOO softened and dissolved the stones into powder within a day! 1 DAY! I never even took the pain killers.

After the first horrible tasting shot of ACV, the pain stopped! I can handle bad taste over fetal position pain any day. I haven't been to the doctor since, and I always keep 1 or 2 big bottles of Braggs ACV on hand for nothing but medicinal purposes, as everyone should!

Thanks for your site, and please pass on the Kidney Stone story for those who could use it! Obviously diet, water, and PURE 100% Cranberry juice should be added to help restore the kidneys, and lots of water and a true/real healthy diet will keep any illness away, but thank God for ACV!
Thanks again!

This last April, I found out I had a kidney stone that took up the entire inside of my left kidney. After 2 Percutaneous Lithotripsy's and a tube out my back for 5 weeks, I knew I had to do more. I looked on the Internet and found out that I should stay on a low oxalate diet. It's been 7 months and I started feeling that familiar pain in my side again. After 2 nights of feeling mildly uncomfortable, I was hit hard.

The following morning, a girlfriend was suggesting I take a shot of Apple Cider Vinegar. While I was in the ER she looked on this website and saw these testimonials. By the time, I got home from the ER, the Apple Cider Vinegar was on my kitchen counter. I took one shot of the Apple Cider Vinegar on Monday morning and Tuesday morning. Tuesday afternoon I had a CT scan. Tuesday evening my doctor wanted to schedule an emergency surgery but I'd had too much to eat or drink so we were going to have the surgery on Wednesday. Tuesday night I passed two very large stones. One was 11mm X 6mm and the other was 6mm X 6mm. All with NO PAIN! I was so excited! The Apple Cider Vinegar did the job. I'm home relaxing and not in surgery putting my body through more trauma! I'm still amazed!

P.S. My doctor called tonight to follow up and find out my remedy so he could pass it on to another patient!"

Within 15 hours of taking the vinegar I passed an additional 3 fragments. I tried the Lemon and Oil that very next day. Although it made me feel relaxed, I had not seen any fragments pass in my urine. I have tried the ACV treatment again today to see if any more fragments pass. [YEA]  08/09/2010: Troy from Fayetteville, N Carolina writes: "Pass a stone in less than 6 hours. In Mar 2010, I had a 2mm stone found by the doctor at Womack Army Med Center. 4 days of pain and fluids and still nothing. My wife the "health fanatic" found a site where about 173 people swore by Raw Apple Cider Vinegar. After 4 days of waking up in the middle of the night in pain to take more meds. The dis-believer gave in and poured a Quarter Cup (2 Oz. ) of refrigerated Raw Apple Cider Vinegar at about 0130 hrs in the morning. I woke at 0600 with almost no pain. So I went to the bathroom with my strainer and when I was done there was a colorless, roundish blob with a couple specks of brown in it. I rinsed it off and pressed a Q-Tip against it. It was soft, but still solid enough to stay together. I set it aside and later went to get it to show the doctor. It had dried and was much firmer. The doc took one look at it said it was my stone, but he said he didn't understand why it was soft and smooth. I explained my vinegar treatment and he too was skeptical as I was, but would look into it more. August of 2010 my left side kidney decided to to get my attention and dropped a stone at about 0930 in the morning. By 1000 I was taking about 800mg of Motrin to stop the pain. I was visiting my father and they had "distilled" apple cider vinegar. It wasn't raw so I took a half cup (4 oz)and downed it in two separate swigs. WARM, Distilled Apple Cider Vinegar is a little tougher to swallow. The pain was increasing so I laid down and feel to sleep just as the pain killers were taking effect. I woke up at 2:30 PM with nearly no pain. "Did it work again?". I went and peed through the strainer and there it was in many grains smaller than sand. Most were colorless, but there were some brown specks and a red one. Probably blood or something. After a hour or so I realized I had passed a stone from start to finish in less than 5 hours. I was now a 90% believer that the vinegar breaks the stone down. Three days later, my right kidney decided to give me an opportunity to believe. It hit me at 0530 in the morning. I couldn't believe my lousy luck. However, I was home now and I limped into the kitchen for Motrin and "refrigerated" raw apple cider vinegar. 800mg Motrin and about 3 oz of the vinegar. The pain was on my entire right side from my kidney to just above my bladder. I was worried it was my appendix and not a stone. I was awake for the next 2 or so hours and the pain sucked. The Motrin was just dulling it and not stopping it. So around 0830 or 0900 I laid down and was able to fall asleep. I woke at 1230 with a little soreness on my side and the urge to finally urinate. At the end, I was looking into the bottom of the strainer where there were "three" 1-2mm size, colorless, but firm blobs. They looked like dried silicon caulking, but covered in a clear slim. In addition, there were many little clear particles like tiny grains of sand. I guess either I had "3" stone or I had a big 5mm stone and it was broken up initially by the treatment four days earlier which made it small enough to pass. 3 stones also explained why the pain was in several areas on my side. So, now I am a 100% believer in the Raw Apple Cider Vinegar remedy, which my wife discovered and will never let me forget. In addition to constant reminder to drink more water. Not all stones are the same, but I have hypercalcimia (excess calcium in the blood) which most likely means my stones are made of calcium oxalate. So it may not act the same on other stone types, but vinegar dissolves and fizzes on limestone, in baking soda and other base type materials. Higher acid is required to breakdown stone in a preventative manner as I understand it. So it makes sense as to why it turns my stones to goo and/or breaks them into small sand like particles. Try it. The most you have to lose is the pain and burping vinegar breathe for a couple hours."

After more than a month though of being in a state of constant discomfort and lacking medical insurance, I turned to the internet for home remedies. It was that or go crazy from constant physical (and mental/emotional) discomfort. I tried ACV and to my pleasant surprise noticed an almost immediate decrease in discomfort (after about 30 mins). I started the ACV and water treatment on Tuesday Feb 9, drinking about 4 tablespoons of ACV mixed with water in a coffee mug (filled to the brim with water). I did that once a day, and then on Feb 11 I did it twice because I noticed some more discomfort. I just passed the stone, which is about 5mm.

During this time, I also drank a mixture of water and lemon juice from squeezed lemons. (2 whole lemons squeezed into a large glass of water about twice a day).

A warning though...ACV is terribly nasty stuff on your tongue, really bitter. Be ready for it!"

My doctor just told me that my kidney stones may be a result of a benign parathyroid gland. A simple blood test can determine if you have this and a simple surgery to remove the gland can give you your health back. If your doctor doesn't know about this get another doctor. I'm getting my blood tested next week."

07/31/2011: John from Columbus, Oh replies: "I was diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism a few years back. Apparantly one of my four parathyroid glands has been enlarged since I was a teenager (or earlier). The overactive gland instructed my body to pull excess calcium from my bones and put it into my blood stream, thus forming dozen calcium stones into both of my kidneys. At age 38, the doctor finally diagnosed it after years of passing stones. They removed the gland and my calcium levels are normal again; however, I have been passing the calcium stones ever since. My doctor said all the stones are 5mm or less, so they are passable. He said anything over 5mm is not typically passable.

I'm anxious to try one of these remedies, but I'm confused if ACV is the right remedy for calcium stones. I'll keep reading."

04/30/2011: Drew R from Fort Walton Beach, Fl replies: "I was diagnosed with a 5mm kidney stone back in early Feb. 2011 it is now April 30th and I have been in pain for 48hrs now. I am going back to the ER in a little while to see if they can blast the stone. I am gonna try some of these home remedies before I go. Hopefully something eases the pain. My sincerest sympathies go to everyone who has/had/or will have a kidney stone in the future."
12/15/2011: Bob from Cedartown, Ga replies: "For Drew from FWB., FL

I too had problems while living in FWB. My experience was when I was about 30 yrs. old. My doctor told me to drink lots of water. This was around 1980 before bottled water was popular. At Eglin AFB., the years of unexploded munitions may have polluted the ground water with phosphorus which should be balanced with calcium in your body. 50/50. I think age, life changes, stress, diet & environment all affect balance. My Dr.too mentioned about the hyperparathyroidism. I never had surgery for that. I am 58 now. Pay attention to your kidneys and not allow to get dehydrated. I was also taking strong vitamins which may have put my kidneys into overdrive and with a love for caffeine did not help the situation. Overworking your kidneys can cause pain like a stone but will subside with water. Infections will cause dark urine and you should watch for that and drink things that are good for you like good water and cranberry juice daily. I have had surgery which I would prevent, rather than go thru that again. When I moved back to Ala., I stopped having stones. It may have been the water but also making needed changes in my life may have also been a factor. (less stress). Good Luck!"

So last week, I didn't have lemon or olive oil in the house, I tried 2 table spoons of ACV and 2 tbls of coconut oil in 16 oz of warm water. I felt fine...I have no scientific proof to back this up but I think it works just the same and it taste better than drinking olive oil, IMHO."

The only way to get the benefits of, without sucking on a tit! Lol"

06/25/2011: Wizardt from Novi, Michigan replies: "My guess is that the oil is used to protect your mouth, esophagus and stomach. I assume the oil can "coat" the surface thus protect them from being harmed by the acid in either the undiluted lemon juice or apple cider vinegar. For example: people with ulcer. So coconut oil may be able to do as good a job as the olive oil. Just IMHO."
[YEA]  12/27/2011: John J. from New Hope, Pa replies: "Like thousands of others, I suffered from very severe pain with kidney stone. From the CT Scan, my doc requested that I should undergo surgery immediately, approx. 6.5mm.

Thanks to this online forum, I adopted all the recommendation from this page: lemon juices, apple cidar vinegar, olive oil, and distilled water. Keep drinking them in combinations all day long for 7 days, using oat meal and organic honey to help relieve bad taste and stomach discomfort.

Doc also prescibes me pain killer, uniary tract antibotics and flomax to help increase the urine flow. I have no fever all along!

Stone finally passed out on the 7th day morning! When I bring it in for analysis, my doc is amazed by the size and my ability to pass.

I cannot tell which remedy is the ultimate solution, but the price I paid from taking all these together are so small compared to having to go to the surgery room.

Since this forum has saved me this Christmas, I just want to share this with the rest! Sincere thanks to the previous posts!"
