Dissolve Kidney Stones

Updated: 07/03/2009

"Kidney stones, also called renal calculi, are solid concretions (crystal aggregations) of dissolved minerals in urine; calculi typically form inside the kidneys or bladder. The terms nephrolithiasis and urolithiasis refer to the presence of calculi in the kidneys and urinary tract, respectively.

Renal calculi can vary in size from as small as grains of sand to as large as a golf ball. Kidney stones typically leave the body by passage in the urine stream, and many stones are formed and passed without causing symptoms. If stones grow to sufficient size before passage - on the order of at least 2-3 millimeters - they can cause obstruction of the ureter. The resulting obstruction with dilation or stretching of the upper ureter and renal pelvis as well as spasm of muscle, trying to move the stone, can cause severe episodic pain, most commonly felt in the flank, lower abdomen and groin (a condition called renal colic). Renal colic can be associated with nausea and vomiting due to the embryological association of the kidneys with the intestinal tract. Hematuria (bloody urine) is commonly present due to damage to the lining of the urinary tract." (Wikipedia)

#1 REMEDY: LEMON JUICE AND OLIVE OIL

01/07/2006: Cyndi from Durham, NC writes, "I have suffered intermittently from kidney stones for nearly 9 years. One was so bad I had to have surgery to remove it. Later, my grandmother was hospitalized with a kidney stone and told me about a home remedy given to her by a nurse and believe me, this really works! Mix 2 oz of olive oil and 2 oz of lemon juice, drink it straight down and follow with a large glass of water at the first sign of stone pain. The stone(s) will pass within 24 hours. I have eliminated at least 8 stones with this remedy and have not gone back to the urologist since I started taking this."

ALFALFA TABLETS

1 YEA

[YEA]  11/15/2006: Kathy from West Salem, IL writes: "I took Shaklee's Alfalfa for my kidney stones. I had 3 large ones and Dr was set to blast them.Did a Cat Scan to locate them and was shocked to find them gone. He gave God the credit but I did drink lots of water and took 20 4 times a day of Alfalfa. Had read that someone else had done this and it worked for them. It worked for me too. For the bleeding I had in my first experience I have learned that Magnesium relieves that. I drank lots of water too. It cured 3 stones that the doctor described as bigger than a 50 cent piece. I really like the idea of the lemon juice and olive oil. But I tried that and like others it did not work for me. But appreciated knowing this to share with others that might find it works for them."

06/09/2008: Shazia from London, ENGLAND replies: "Are you sure you took 20 tablets 4 times a day as i have heard that alfalfa in excess cn lead to lupus (SLE). Also did it improve your skin?"

[YEA]  07/18/2008: David from Grapeland, Texas writes: "After two weeks of using calimine lotion for a severe posion ivy rash and found little to no releif, I used acv on the same rash that I had on my arms. I was reluctant thinking that it would burn but I was so desperate that I tried a topical application and I got almost instant releif from the itching. With continuous applications several times a day the rash dryed and healed. there wasn't any burning and I found it very soothing. I read somewhere that the Isralites practically lived off of vineger and garlic while in Egypt and where very healthy. David, East Texas

P.S. I just remembered that I also used acv for dissolving calcification of kidney stones. Suffering two weeks with birthing pains in my back from kidney stones I finally went to the doctor where after x-rays he determined that I did indeed have several small BB sized kidney stones. Of course he wanted to schedule me for surgery go up in me to retreive these stones in a basket type apporatise and $1500.00 later I would be ok. I told my mother and she said she removed hard water deposits from her coffee pot with vinegar. so I took a couple of table spoons of vinegar and within 30 min. to an hour the stones passed."

I noticed the color was different when I passed it. I get about one a week. The pain is just awful. I hope this helps."

After a trip to the hospital to confirm it, I was sent home with a screen funnel and some pain pills. They didn't work, but I remembered using apple cider vinegar the last time. So I took an 8 OZ cup and put two ounces of apple cider vinegar and 5 ounces of cold water. Stirred and chugged it down. The pain stopped within ten minutes and I passed the stone pain free within two hours. I was on the road eleven hours today totally pain free!"

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, COCONUT OIL

03/23/2009: Lisa from Salt Lake, Utah writes: "I have had kidney problems for a while and there're liver issues in my family. So a while ago, I read that someone drink coconut milk to treat their diabetes/kidney problems and it worked.

So last week, I didn't have lemon or olive oil in the house, I tried 2 table spoons of ACV and 2 tbls of coconut oil in 16 oz of warm water. I felt fine...I have no scientific proof to back this up but I think it works just the same and it taste better than drinking olive oil, IMHO."

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, LEMON JUICE

1 NAY

05/12/2009: Thomas from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma writes: "APPLE CIDER VINEGAR and LEMON JUICE

I found myself on the site wanting help for kidney stones. I ended up in the ER 10 days ago with lower back pains, throwing up etc. The pain lasted for about 4 hours before making myself go the ER.

Upon seeing a Dr and having a cat scan it was found that I had a 2 mm Kidney Stone. Stayed in the ER several hours with the DR giving me Morphine, Demerol etc..

Since leaving the ER the pain has not been as bad but have been having on and off pains in the lower back. Like with most people I was given a strainer to catch the stone.

So, not wanting to go threw the above pain again I decided to try some home remedies.

After reading post on this site about how some people had results in a matter of mins or hours I decided to try it.

Approximately 3 hours ago I took 2 ounces of Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 ounces of Lemon Juice.
I must say it was the nastiest stuff I have ever tasted in my life. It took me approx one hour of fighting with myself not to throw up. "Would recommend keeping some type of mint candy around to get the taste out of your mouth.

No change with anything as of yet. I will update as time goes on and let everyone have a true insight into my results with this home remedy"

05/19/2009: Scott from San Pedro, California replies: "So how did things turn out? Did it work?"

[NAY]  06/01/2009: Thomas from Oklahoma City, OK replies: "OK, update on my first post. I still have not passed my stone. I went a couple of week with zero pain. This weekend it started up again. Just praying it will pass soon. I did talk with a Doctor about APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, LEMON JUICE. I was advised by the MD that there are numerous types of kidney stones and that APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, LEMON JUICE does one on one of the types of kidney stones. However, the bad news is the one type it does work on is the rarest type of kidney stones and very very very few people have that type. So, for me it does not work."

BANABA TEA

1 YEA

[YEA]  10/04/2008: Melissa from Pilot Grove, MO writes: "I wanted to add another remedy to your list for kidney stones. I'm still not sure why this one is not getting out there to the people as quick as it should, since it is such a fast and reliable fix. So, I would like to suggest Banaba Tea.(crepe myrtle) I buy mine from the overseas, though I have seen herbal shops online in the US carry it as well. Japan, the Phillipines, and others primarily use it for diabetes control. I guess that because that is such a big deal, they tend to forget what it originally was used for by people and that was kidney stone relief and other kidney ailments. It's fast thank goodness! Not only do I use it, but many friends and family also. It's much better than the regretfull look doctors give you as they hand you pain pills and pat you on the back to say good luck when they send you home to pass one the old fashion way!

Shockingly enough, not only does it dissolve the problem stone but anyone that was sent home with a strainer will be shocked at just how much other potential stone minerals they had in their kidneys as well, when they begin seeing what looks like clumps of wet sugar in their strainer!

One word though, some care does have to be taken on where you buy it from. I have tried to save some money before and ended up with tea that did nothing for me.

Thanks, Melissa"

"Banaba leaves have been traditionally used over thousands of years in Philippines and as folklore treatment by the native Indians and more recently used by the Japanese, mostly as tea preparation. Banaba leaves and their ability to reduce blood sugar, and its "insulin-like principle" made it popular herb to be used as herbal decoction and with others in many formulations for controlling blood sugar and weight loss." http://www.sssbiotic.com/product/banaba.asp

[YEA]  11/17/2008: Gustavo Garza from Laredo, Tx writes: "Well my friends I make more kidney stones than a brick factory, and I do think that all the remedies Ive read may have some true in them. I drink them 2 or 3 a day before bed time to let it work overnite. and woola. It works and they taste great."

01/30/2009: Ashley from Houston, TX replies: "That's dangerous advice for someone with oxolate stones. Beer contributes to the formation of stones."

CHANCY PIEDRA

2 YEA
1 BETTER BUT NOT CURED

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  04/21/2009: Aicha from Bedford, Beds UK writes: "I am a first time sufferer of kidney stones. My problem started at end of January. I was diagnosed with a kidney stone in my left kidney. My consultant after checking my scan again, then wrote to me to tell me i had in fact another stone also in my utherer. I have gone through hell to say the least the most pain of which semed to be coming from the "stent" and the continuous infections and always bleeding every time i passed urine. I have other medical conditions so used to dealing with pain and so have a very high pain threshold but this has truly been unbearable. I have been hospitalized 3 times so far! Recently someone mentioned chancy piedra so i rushed to order online and at the same time also saw this website for the first time.

This morning I have taken 3 cups of chancy piedra so far (and also the lemon juice and olive oil method for good measure). It is too soon to say whether i will pass the stones etc but i know one thing already..the excruciating pain i have suffered since end of January has actually gone for the first time!

My surgery is scheduled for tommorrow to remove the stone from my utherer and when i recover from the surgery i have been told i will need at least 2 lots of lithotripsy to remove the other stone as it is so big...

I wish i had seen this several weeks ago and i am 100% sure if i continue to take the piedra i will not need the lithotripsy...Have had so much time off work already and of course i will need another 4-6 weeks to recover from the op..There has been so much wasted time and all the hospital does is give you painkillers and antibiotics which in the end stopped working. I ended up having to take morphine as the pain was so bad!...I also suffered from acid reflux/reflux disease which developed into barratts esophegus so i will also be trying the aloe vera and also magnesium..Many thanks to all readers for their immensely helpful comments."

04/23/2009: Aicha from Bedford, Beds UK replies: "I have just had my surgery (yesterday) which was successful but the amazing thing is my consultant, during surgery, tried to locate my other extremely large stone in my kidney but couldnt find it.. I have a scan scheduled for 2 weeks time to make sure it has gone so needless to say, i will continue to take the piedra ...will keep readers posted as to the final outcome..."

[YEA]  03/06/2008: alicia (wezthagooftroop@yahoo.com) from Bella Vista, Arkansas writes: "Chanca Piedra extract is a must! My husband had kidney stones that were as large as his kidney. Twice he has went through a series of surgeries to break up and remove stones.  After the second time, the Doctors told him if he ever had a stone like this again, it would mean they would have to remove his kidney.  I began researching stones.  Then next time he got kidney stones we used the Chanca Piedra.  He painlessly resolved the stones by using 60 drops of chanca piedra in a glass of water twice a day until the tincture was used up.  He never has troubles with stones now as long as he stays away from Coca-Cola.  Chanca Piedra is carried in some healthfood stores, but if you cannot find it there, it's online.  herbs4usa.com is a great place to buy it.  You can also just type in the search bar chanca piedra extract, and it will lead you to many different carriers, but raintree is the best.  I hope this is helpfull to many.  It saved my husbands life."

CHECK FOR HYPERPARATHYROID

1 WARNING!

[WARNING!]  09/03/2008: Rick from Inaka, JAPAN writes: "This is to add a strong second to one notice I have seen on this site to chronic kidney stone sufferers. If you have suffered repeated episodes of renal calculi buildup and passing kidney stones, it is advisable that you have your doctor run a simple blood test for hyperparathyroidism, an until recently little known condition that causes high blood calcium and a myriad of other symptoms including, but not limited to, depression, hypertension, loss of energy and interest, short temper, and even emotional instability. Many people suffer from this condition and do not know it, and many doctors are still unaware of it."

06/24/2008: Elaine from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA writes: "I see many of the folks in the Kidney stones area are reocurring sufferers. Some of them should ask their doctors to check them for Hyperparathyroid. You have four to six small rice size glands that sit close to the thyroid. These glands regulate calcium in the blood. Primay hyperparathyroid is caused by a tumor. Secondary hyperparathyroid is caused by a lack of vitamin D. Ask your physician to check your PTH (parathyroid hormone) and blood calcium. Sometimes you have to have a tumor removed and sometims all you need is extra vitamin D."

COCA COLA

[YEA]  05/16/2007: Duane from Portland, Oregon writes: "I've had 2 (3mm) stones over the last few years. Drink six cans of warm Coke (Pepsi doesn't work) and hold it as long as you can. Latest CT-scan found 7 more stones in one kidney and 5 in the other, so I imagine I'm going to be drinking lots of Coke in the future. Looking for any other remedies that won't rot my teeth."

EC: Each bottle of coke has 43g of sugar, so you're talking about 258g of sugar flooding the system -- dangerous!!!

06/24/2008: John from Chicago, IL replies: "Ya, that sounds smart ... Since many doctors think allot of use have stones from drinking way too much pop.

Drink water ... You shouldn't drink calories anyways ... And stay away from dairy! Think about it if nature wanted us to drink milk all our lives women would always lactate! PLUS heart attacks are usually caused from calcium build up in our systems.

I have noticed the apple cider vinegar trick works ... much like cleaning out your coffee maker at home."

[NAY]  07/09/2008: Rox from Weschester, Ohio replies: "This is so untrue, coca cola and all other pop is helping cause all those stones you have. maybe if you drink less you will have less. try lime or lemon juice from the fruit itself."

[YEA]  03/16/2007: Bob from Edmonton, Canada writes: "Really interesting remedies. I've had stones for 20 years and so far have been fortunate enough to pass them all, usually one every year. On a couple of occasions on the way to the hospital to get a pain killer, knowing what was ahead of me I was drinking water and then I discovered a can of coke in the car, it was fluid so down it went. Some one told me that the acid in the coke would help relax the kidney muscle and make it easier for the stone to pass. In this case the stone passed. A ct scan recently showed multiple stones so I finally took one in last week to get analyzed to see what type it is."

COKE, ASPARAGUS, WATER

1 YEA
1 WARNING!

[YEA]  01/30/2009: Mark from Atlanta, GA writes: "This is my experience with the Coke/Asparagus/Water Kidney Stone Treatment. I have been dealing with stones intermittently since my early 20s... I am painfully aware of the way my body feels right before an attack, which I experienced 5 days ago while at work. Once the sensations started, I went into the usual routine. Emergency room, extreme pain, IV painkillers, IVP/CT scan, pass the stone, get stuck with $1000s in ER bills. Well this time, I didn't pass the stone the same day... I dealt with it for the next 4 days, and even with the vicodin, I was pretty much at my wit's end. I decided to try the coke/asparagus treatment based on other's testimonials, and probably because in my delirious state of mind, it sounded so insane I thought it might work. So I doped myself up and went to the supermarket to buy some asparagus and a 12 pack of coke. I then followed the regimen. six 12oz cokes in two hours. Now, after the fifth soda, I thought I was going to explode... and I actually like Coke (which is probably part of the reason I was in this situation to begin with). However, I also felt something going on in my kidney. It wasn't painful, a bit uncomfortable, but I knew something was happening, almost like something back there was bubbling. After drinking the last can, I ate the asparagus puree (I blended about 1/2 pound of fresh boiled spears). Added a bit of salt to make it more palatable. And I kid you not...in less that 30 seconds I ran to the bathroom and passed the sesame seed sized stone that had been vexing me for the last 5 days. Needless to say, I was amazed. Now, also keep in mind, I did the olive oil/lemon juice trick about 2 hours before the asparagus/coke treatment, but the timing on the latter was pretty impeccable. So try 'em both, I guess. ANOTHER THING. Make sure you are near a bathroom for the next hour or so, 'cause all that fluid is gonna want to get out by any means possible. And don't plan on sleeping much that either because of all that caffeine/sugar. BOTTOM LINE. The treatment is not without it's mild side effects, but compared to the pain of passing a stone, I would say this treatment (or combination of treatments) definitely worked for me. I am going to see my urologist in a couple days and get the stone analyzed, so that might have some bearing on the effectiveness of this treatment."

[WARNING!]  07/01/2008: David writes: "Kidney Stones - WARNING!
Another valid reason for starting the COKE remedy early in the day is so you'll make it home from the ER in time to sleep in your own bed. I tried the remedy as discussed on MANY web sites (2 liters of coke over 2 hours, followed by asparagus puree, followed by 2 liters of water of 2 hours). Ended up throwing my electrolytes out of balance- and THAT is some VERY freaky bizness! (Look up hyponatremia!) Won't bore you with the details, but do be careful!!!
PS:- still have the stones"
