[WORKED TEMPORARILY]  11/09/2008: Paul from Uxbridge, MA: "Suffering from anal itch. For the past four months I have been suffering from this nagging itch that I can't get rid of no matter what I try. I have made significant changes in my diet (no more sugar, very little caffeine), tried every medication, it even got to the point where I used a suppository because my rectum was itching. I no longer wipe the area, instead I use alcohol free wipes and pat the area. Nothing has worked. I have been to my physician twice and he prescribed two different topical creams that haven't worked. I find myself going on the internet on a daily basis to get rid of this, and had to leave work early this week b/c of the itch. My doctor and I have ruled out pinworms, anal fissures and hemoroids. I personally think its just broken skin that has been irritated further from all the creams and medicine i have been putting on it. The past few days I have been applying refrigerated extra virgin olive oil to the area. It has a soothing feel to it and the itch goes away for a little while. The olive oil seems to absorb very quickly so it doesn't feel greasy. We shall see what happens, but I refuse to get back on medications for this because they only seemed to make it worse."

11/10/2008: Janis from Renton, US. replies: "I had an awful anal itch around the age of 50 and at that same age I found out that I had colon polps. After I had a colonoscopy and had 2 polyps removed, I never had another anal itch. It may be just a coincidence or the polyps may have caused the itch somehow. Anyway, if you have reached age 50 or over or if colon polyps run in your family, you may need to get a colonoscopy at a younger age, if you are younger than 50.When I had the anal itch it was constant and I didn't have hemrhoids either. Good luck. I hope you can get the cause of the itch figured out."

[YEA]  12/26/2012: Wisdom Ace from Port Huron, Michigan: "I have used ointment for this after showering. Just an amount the size of the end of your finger is all it takes. After drying real good with a towel I dry completly with a hair dryer then I apply a small amount of Ointment to the hemmoroid and anus area. Thats it. It's a very old remedy. I live in Michigan and can only find it at one Walgreen's store in town. Active ingredients: Camphor, 3.0%, anti itching. Phenol, 2.5%, anesthetic. Tannic acid, 6.6% astringent. Other ingredients: Petrolatum, Bees Wax, Lavender Oil The trademark is PBO and it's in a yellow container. could be in a tube or a small plastic jar of 3oz. My mother and Uncle used this preparation for years with success. Thats why I use it too."

[YEA]  06/22/2009: Lynne from Dayton, Ohio: "I suffer with anal itching usually around my menstral cycle. When I gave birth to my daughter years ago, the hospital gave me a personal hygiene bottle. You fill the bottle with water and wash your rear with it. Ever since then I use it every time I go to the bathroom. I have ordered several bottles off of hospital supply websites and keep at least one bottle in every bathroom. I even take them with me when I travel. You can't beat them for cleansing. You don't have to further irritate the area by wiping to get clean. For severe cases I put castor oil on a cotton ball and keep it on the area for a while and it brings me relief."

EC: personal hygiene bottle = enema bag/hot water bottle

Remedies Needed

11/01/2013: Marty from St Paul Mn: "I've come down with rectal itching or rectal dermititis and am trying to find something to help relieve the itching and burning. I'm hoping to find a natural remedy if I can."

Replies
11/02/2013: Liz from Boston, Massachusetts replies: "@Marty - Sitz baths with Witch Hazel are very helpful.

Add one cup of Witch Hazel to the basin, then fill it with very warm (but not hot) water and sit/soak for 20 minutes a couple of times a day."

01/07/2014: Gene from South Dakota replies: "Castor Oil worked after many other remedies had only temporary relief."

11/14/2011: Patricia from Hanover, Ontario Canada: "In response to Richard from Ls, Wa. I'm not sure what the original part of your post was but when I hear sugars and rectal itching in the same sentence I think of Candida. Sugars of any kind are the food for this yeast and rectal itching can be an indicatior of an overgrowth. We all have Candida in our systems, but it is kept in check by healthy intestinal flora. If an imbalance occurs the "bad yeast" starts to outnumber the "good yeast" and an overgrowth situation begins. The symptoms are vast and varied and can cause fairly serious problems in the long run if not checked. Something for you to check into anyway so hopefully that is helpful."

Whenever when I go out with friends, like drinking etc. I'll be sneaking in the toilet often just to (give it a rub) then you come back it starts to talk to you like "here I come body". I hated it so bad. I went to GP suggested some cream, he actually said to me can I have a look? I replied hang on can I go to the bathroom first. So I went to the bathroom and took a picture of my butt for him to show it. Useless. I have started reading about itching etc. It kinda give me hope. So today I went to chemist I bought some anti dandruf shampoo to apply under then, wash gently let it dry finally apply some calamine lotion. It feels great and better a little. I hope this is it. I'll keep you guys posted. If this wont work... I'll try the ACV or something the vinegar I know it's gonna burn I have to make sure no ones home. Oh boy cross finger huhu. P. S my GF does not know this also when she stays over in the middle of the night I wake up controling the itch.. Then she goes where u going.. I say I have to pee. lol It's efffing bullshit..."

06/03/2010: Sara from Sacramento, Ca, Usa: "Hello Everyone, I discovered this website last year and since then I am addicted to it.

My mom is 73 years old, and I am her care taker. She has a couple of health issues that her doctor could not find any treatment for any of it yet. She has canker sore and her anal is itching all the time. The doctor believes that her anal itching is because of her canker sore. I found Alum through this website and her canker sore is getting better, but she still has the problem with itching. There is also itching on outside of her ears. I would highly appreciate if you guys can help."

06/03/2010: Lucy from Santa Cruz, California, United States replies: "Sounds like your mother has too much acid in her system. She may need to change her pH. A lot of greens will alkaline and balance the system, sugars, meats, processed foods will produce more acid."
06/04/2010: Bessie from Calgary, Alberta, Canada replies: "Perhaps your mother has candida or some other fungal infection. I agree with Lucy (from Santa Cruz) - go for a more alkaline diet, keep her well hydrated and definitely get rid of the sugar. In the meantime, your mom might find some relief by swabbing her ear with olive oil or coconut oil. She could also use either of these oils on some toilet paper and gently wipe the anal region. Your mom is fortunate to have you as her caregiver. Good luck!"
06/05/2010: Kathryn from Brevard, Nc replies: "Itchy ears and anus? Parasites. Stop eating meat protein, eat NO sugar, not even fruit sugar, and eat lots of raw and lightly cooked veggies. May want to cut out wheat and other carbs for a while. Take 2 TBS. ground flax meal morning and night to help with elimination. Check out this site for more things to do. Good luck! I'm just getting rid of those that came back with me from Costa Rica last year."
11/13/2011: Richard from Ls, Wa replies: "I have a question about sugars. I know I am a sweetaholic. So I try to eat as natural ones as I can. So when you are talking about sugar is this the white refined stuff? I use honey, Xylitol, organic evaporated cane juice. I know this butt itch is related to diet in some way and I am getting desperate. I have tried the tea tree oil and sometimes it works and sometimes it is very temporary. That is why I think it has to do with what goes in as well and a topical remedy. I also wash with water and this helps as well."
11/16/2011: Jessica from Ridgecrest, Ca replies: "Your "butt itch" sounds like Candida overgrowth to me... And it is caused by ANY sugar feeding the little candida monsters in your gut. You can use probiotics to boost your own gut bugs to tame the candida, but unless you cut back on sugars, you'll have an itchy butt. If you do have an overgrowth of candida, they do not go away easily or willingly. You can find all sorts of cures for candida on this website. I used Biotin, which prevents candida from growing, and slippery elm to heal my gut from the abuse of the candida. I also went on a strict low carb diet. No itchy butt! =)"

[YEA]  06/11/2009: Ronson from Mountain City, TN: "itchy butt: I found your site while searching for alternative treatment for hbp. In only 3 days my results have been nothing short of miraculous. Thank you earth clinic and to all of the people who contribute to your website. I'd also like to contribute a remedy of my own to the itchy butt ailment category. My line of work requires that I am exposed to extreme heat both from the sun and 400 degree asphalt which irritates or chaps my and my co-workers butt regularly. The best and quickest cure for this is rubbing alcohol! Yes, it burns like heck for about 15 seconds, but as soon as the burning stops, healed! A fan blowing directly to the area helps alot. I've tried getting my girlfriend to blow until it stops burning, but she just laughs too hard to make any wind."

Replies
06/21/2009: Alma from Sparta, Ga replies: "The request by the boyfriend to have someone "blow on his butt" is not something you should do. If he has a pinworm infestation, the eggs are deposited by the females during the night on the exterior of the buttocks and will become airborne resulting in the person doing the "blowing" becoming infected. To see the pinworm go to Google and type into the search block "pinworm image" without the quotation marks."
08/13/2011: Itchy And Scratchy Show from Phoenix, Arizona replies: "Does anybody know how many times a day you can use rubbing alcohol to ease symptoms without creating issues? Burns like heck, but it seems to have worked the first time."

[YEA]  06/08/2009: Brad from New York, NY: "I suffered miserably for months with anal itch. I don't know how it came about, it wasn't poor hygeine or anything that can be explained. I went to my physician, a specialist and was prescibed several medications that only made the situation worse. They couldn't explain it either. They just said keep the area dry. The itch was insane, I would come home from work and literally sit in front of the computer researching for hours how to beat my pain. It started in August, it ended in recently this June. TEA TREE OIL. Don't dillute it. 3-5 drops on a cotton ball, hold to the area for 1 minute. Wait five minutes then apply some corn starch to the area. twice a day should work, or as many times as needed. Yes it will burn at first, BUT it is followed with a cooling sensation. In some instances the itch comes on for a few minutes because it is such a strong astringent that it may irritate the skin.

An example of how this works: I had gone on a horrible drinking binge this past thursday followed by 3 cups of coffee that friday. Alcohol and Coffee are horrible for my condition. Once I go to the bathroom, I'm itching all day. Anyway, I had a date that night and didn't want to break it. Half way through the date I couldn't even think straight and was clearly bothered by the itching. I was ready to call it a night, but we decided to go shopping at the mall. I couldn't take it anymore so I thought I would buy some tea tree oil (knowing that it worked previously) and run to the mens room to apply it. Luckily a local nutrition store had it. Thanks to the Tea Tree oil the date continued for another 3 hrs, my tush felt 100 percent better... God Bless this oil.

Highly Recommended."

Witch Hazel, Diaper Rash Cream

[YEA]  01/20/2009: Maria from Bethany, CT: "Itchy Butt: I also suffered from this. Two things worked. The first was witch hazel. Saturate a cotton ball and apply to the infected area. Slight sting but worth it. What many don't realize is that sometimes toilet paper alone doesn't do the job and that any amount of (stuff) left behind (pun intended) may cause a reaction to that sensitive area. I suggest using either flushable wipes, or wet the T.P. and wipe again. Also, good old baby diaper rash formula works wonders. If you are still having problems, consider the possibility of diet and/or parasite. Consider a
parasite/worm natural cleanse product that contains black walnut hull and extract. Good luck!"

08/05/2012: Heretohelp8 from London, Ontario, Canada replies: "I have had a problem with my anus being itchy for about two weeks now. I'm not completely sure as to the cause of this horrid and embarrassing problem but it does seem to occur when I have a loose, watery bowel movement. My mom believes it is due to the acidity in my diet, which burns the sensitive skin around the anus and causes irritation, but I can't be sure. I will work to actually curing my problem in the future, but for now, all I crave is a remedy. In the beginning my mother suggested icing the area. I agreed and felt relief soon enough. I lie on my back and wedge a half inch thick hard ice pack between my cheeks and it seems to do the trick within ten minutes. I make sure to keep a piece of clothing between ice and skin, and make sure not to ice for to long or you will get frostbitten. But who carries around a frozen icepack with them? So I needed something portable. And on top of that I am still horribly itchy for those ten minutes.

So I read online in multiple places about witch hazel, and asked my mom to pick me up some. She did and I began using it. It didn't work at first, but I don't believe I applied it properly. I just used it again, accompanied with an ice pack and it seemed to do the trick within five. When I applied it this time I soaked a thick piece of toilet paper in it, sat on the toilet and held it to the area. It did sting a tad in the beginning but it gets better. I still have doubts about witch hazel used on its own or as a cure, but it would certainly work in a pinch or coupled with ice. Hope this helped!"

Yoga

09/12/2011: Yeshwant from Mumbai, Maharashtra, India: "Anal itch may be the sign of low circulation in the area. Yogasana has prove useful in such cases. The name is Uddiana Bandha (Abdominal Lift). Google and you would know the technique.

Do not be alarmed if you experience pain. It is positive sign."

01/12/2012: Wintomd from Mount Pleasant, Tx: "Anal Itch finally gone. I am 46 and have had the miserable itch since I was 18 years old. I would be embarrassed to tell you everything I have tried but finally found a solution. DESITIN cream (used on baby butts to prevent rash). This is a thick cream that I use once each morning. All the other creams disolve throughout the day or when you wipe and the itch quickly returns. I have gone from feeling like I have poison ivy to forgetting there was ever an itch. I would have paid $1,000 dollars for a remedy but this really works. Good luck."

02/16/2011: Buttitch from Kelowna, Bc replies: "I have had an itchy butthole for as long as I can remember. Tried EVERYTHING, creams, vinagars, oils, cleaning etc, NOTHING works. Until one day I bought some over the counter allergy medicine, ya know? for like pollen and sneezing and stuff, well it also says stops itchy skin conditions. Now I'm convinced, it must have been an allergy or something all this time, once I started taking this stuff, (one small pill a day) gone! No more sticking my finger in my buttcrack all day, and I can sleep once again. Lovin' it!!"
[YEA]  04/13/2011: Paul from Christchurch, New Zealand replies: "But Itch, or Anul Puritus, I am concerned at the comments from someone about stopping probiotics. I have suffered from this condition for 30 years, doctors have no idea what causes it and go for the old "don't scratch, keep it clean, don't drink coffee ETC ETC. All Rubbish. My research has narrowed it down to a lack of good bacteria in part of the colon, the lack of these bacteria cause a higher alkaline excretions with stools and this causes the itch. This is why some people get help from the use of ACV because it is acid. But all of these treatments are like the stupid doctors only treat the symtom. To treat the problem we need to get the Bifidofolus back into the gut. One link I think it was springer link put me onto a research paper that had people use Malt Soup Extract and most of these people got great results in stopping the itch. But MSE is almost impossible to get so I use Malt Extract and probotics. The best thing to stop the itch is capsicum cream at about 25% stings like hell for a short period then the P factor cut the itch right out."
04/13/2011: Granny Laura from Waco, Tx Usa replies: "My husband had anal itching for years, and years. Finally I cracked down and told him he was taking acidophilis. He was amazed! He couldn't believe that I knew what he needed when he explained the problem well enough and I put him on a good probiotic. He found after that, just wiping w/tissue fixed the problem instead of his having to leave a wet washcloth in the floor for me to wash every day. But, he'd always had to wash well w/water to keep from itching terribly. Sure smoothed out a rough spot in our marriage! Lol"
05/23/2011: Paul from Hartford, Ct replies: "All the remedies, salves, and other solutions on this site for everything from itchy butt to racing stripes can be answered with one thing. Washing!! If you search "bidet bottle", you will find information. Read all about the centuries old culture of water and all the good things about water hygiene starting with being clean as can be and also to detect early signs of colorectal issues or digestive issues. See how it improves your life and your relationships. It is a great and environmentally good alternative to wiping with paper. Remember, colorectal cancer is the #1 killer among non smokers. No fanfair or pink ribbons for this cancer, spread the word."
05/26/2011: Itchman from Port Jefferson, Ny replies: "I'm sorry your bum is the cause of so much pain. I suffered for a year with your affliction, but I found the cure.

1. ) Use only Tucks Hemorrhoidal Medicated Pads, or better yet, a generic brand.

2. ) Take 1 Loratadine (10 mg) per day. (Or, if you want the name brand, buy Claritin and enrich the capitalists.)

This will help you. Your life will be better.

I used it for like a couple days and the itch never returned again I mean rarely like its been two years now. The doc gave me like four refills on this stuff but I barely used a few days of it, it comes in a 1lb jar 453. 6 grams all I know is the itch has never came back if it does just put a little cream on it and its gone instantly. anyways the cream was "Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP, 0. 1%" This stuff worked I think the stuff only costs me like 4 dollars at most so its cheap and it works. Good luck it cured my itch. GOOD LUCK ask you doc for this stuff as it worked for me after all the failed attempts prior"
