[YEA] 12/22/2011: Vi from Nanaimo, British Columbia: "Just wanted to share this with anyone who may be suffering with hot flashes and can't seem to get relief.
I tried pretty much everything on the market for menopause/hot flashes, including Promensil and other herbal remedies, hormone creams, visits to mainstream doctors (who wanted to put me on the pill!! ), naturopaths, etc. without any help or relief.
It was getting so bad that I was having what felt like one lo-o-o-ng hot flash. It just wouldn't let up! (Anyone who deals with this knows just how incapacitating it is! )
I started taking 2000 mg omega 3s and added some B6 500 mg for arthritis. While I didn't see a big difference for the arthritis, I realized that my hot flashes had finally stopped. To find out if it really was the omega 3, I quit taking it for a few days, and sure enough, the hot flashes were back.
This has been a Godsend and I truly hope this info helps someone in the same hot boots!
Thanks for the great website too!"
Replies12/25/2011: Timh from Louisville, Usa replies: "Vi, from the Omega 3 plant oils, I have read that Evening Primrose Oil is the absolute best for menopausal problems. How they compare to fish oils I dunno. It is easy to get the fish in the diet, and suppliment with Flax, Sun & Safflower, Borage. Also, when one takes therapeutic doses of Omega 3's, it is advised to also increase Vit-E up to 800 or more iu's daily to protect the fragile unsaturated fats from free radical damage."

[YEA] 07/19/2009: Carol from Rockledge, Fl: "I started having hot flashes and for a couple of months did nothing. Then I read in our paper that pine bark helps with hot flashes. I took one pill each day and it started working for me right away. I had no hot flashes for at least six months. Then one week i didn't take it everyday because I forgot and now it doesn't seem to be helping any. I started taking black cohash and it doesn't help at all. Please try the pine bark because it worked fantastic on me with no side effects. They usually recommend one pill in the morning and one at night but I only did the one in the morning."
Replies[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 05/16/2011: Carol from Rockledge, Florida replies: "This is an update on the pine bark extract. It started working again and very well, but I noticed every three or four months that it would not work 100 %. The one really great think about pine bark extract is there are no known side effects and it is a strong antioxident. Anyways so every few months I would have about three weeks of mostly no hot flashes, just occasionly would get warm. After about a year I upped my intake to two pills per day. Worked wonderful for a good year at least. I am now going through actual menapause I believe, since I haven't had a period for about five months. Pine Bark still works amazingly well, but here and there I will get a hot flash. Decided to up it to three per day because I don't want to have them at all. I figure my body is going through the severe change right now. So three a day is working well, just having an occasional semi flash! Still swear by this stuff, since no side effects."
05/17/2011: Moi from Redmond, Wa replies: "Hi Carol,Did you notice if you were bloated with the pine bark? I have tried so many remedies and the ones that worked always caused me to be bloated which was just so depressing as I have already gained a ton of weight over the past few years. Thanks"

12/29/2010: Ruth from Minooka, Il: "I have had hot flashes for 18 years and have tried every home remedy out there! I have tried ACV with baking soda for a while but have to be careful of too much ACV. I can't say I had good results but maybe I need to do it longer. Do you have a thought on what would be best and the amount to use? Or does Earth clinic have any other ideas for hot flashes?"
Replies12/30/2010: Sheri from Sacramento, Ca Usa replies: "I have used lugol's iodine. As I recall, it helped within a week! Based upon my experience, I consider hotflashes a possible idodine deficency. Hope it works for you too."
12/30/2010: Lisa from Waynesboro, Virginia replies: "If you have had hot flashes for 18 years, you probably have a hormone imbalance. Have your hormones tested, via spit test; a naturopathic Dr. would have access to that. If you can't afford to do that, you can always try a progesterone cream and see if that brings some relief. I found that there are only so many things you can do to help symptoms, but you must get to the root of the problem."
12/30/2010: Ann from Houston, Texas replies: "Sheri, how do yu take the iodine for hot flashes?"
02/16/2011: Kaylord from Vancouver, Bc, Canada replies: "I've been taking extra virgin coconut oil for the past two weeks, always with food and slowly increasing the amount daily. I'm only up to to 1. 5 tsp and want to take at least 1 TBSP per day. I started it for general health and am THRILLED that it's virtually eliminated my hot flashes. I haven't had a proper sleep in two years because of the hot flashes. For anyone suffering from it, please try this. I did Apple Cider Vinegar, cut out all junk and refined food, meditate and exercise regularly, take Remifemin (it decreased the intensity and frequency somewhat) but nothing helped until the coconut oil."
03/19/2011: Robin from Westminster, Maryland replies: "I tried many things for the terrible hotflashes I was having. Progesterone cream worked but the weight gain was ridiculous... I am normally a very small, slim women, but gained about 15 pounds while using the cream! I studied the remedies, and after trial and error, this is what worked: 1 zinc pill per day, 4 drops of lugols iodine per day, 1 tablespoon of virgin coconut oil per day, 4 capsules of damiana, 1 capsule vitamin E (1000 IU), and 1 chewable vitamin C. I think all women are different because of their hormonal makeup, but with this combo, I have no more hotflashes!"
09/29/2011: Princess C from Lagos, Nigeria replies: "I have read all you wrote and I must ask, ''while you had this hot flashes, did your periods still come out regularly? I ask because I too have hot flashes but no period for 3 and a half yrs now. Have hormonal imbalance too but found no remedy yet. Any ideas for me?"

[YEA] 09/19/2009: Dalene from Johannesburg, South Africa: "Soy milk powder cured my hot flashes. I also tried everything under the sun, but the soy milk poweder was the only sure thing. If I miss one dose, they're back! I take a tablespoon in the morning, with tea or over cereal, doesn't matter. Take another dose in the evening if necessary, works like a charm!!"
Replies09/19/2009: Crystal from Salyersville, Ky, USA replies: "Thanks Dalene!! I will for sure get some soy milk powder today,,I pray that it works for me. I hope it taste good."

[YEA] 03/21/2006: Leanne from Conroe TX: "Hi, Thank you so much for your website, because my whole family is healthier and happier due to the natural remedies that I have found here. I am so very happy that I came across this particular remedy, as you can imagine. It was a bit by accident because I had bought my 16 yr old some protein drinks by Bolthouse Farms because, after reading the ingredients, I was impressed by how natural the product was and it also had added vitamins and minerals. My son is playing sports and growing really fast (6'5") now, so I wanted the best for his body. The drink has soy protein in it, and I had heard that soy was one of the best sources for protein. My husband & I also drink it off and on after working out, and the taste is great (believe me, I don't work for the company even though it may sound like I do!) But one night I decided I would warm a cup of it up and drink it before I went to bed.....so I did, and I have not slept this good in a long time. I have not had one hot flash since that first night of the warm drink, and I am sleeping in a more deep sleep than I have done in years! I then remembered that I had read a few months back that in countries where women do not suffer from hot flashes and other menopause problems, it is because they have a diet high in soy. Then it all made sense to me as to why the before bed soy drink had helped me so much. It did not really help my menopause symptoms till I did the warm drink at night. I don't know if it will help others like it did me, but I am going to keep drinking it! Thank you so much."
Replies[WARNING!] 05/23/2008: agnes from kamloops, canada replies: "One should always be careful when trying soy, that they do not have an allergy to it. I do and 1/4 oz of it can send me to the bathroom for hours, whether it be soy milk, tofu, miso, hydrolyzed soy protein, msg, etc. I also puff up like a blowfish... For a lot of skin problems I use extra virgin coconut oil, for upset stomachs, and dieting. I am just going to try ACV for hot flushes now. I will let you know how it turns out."

[YEA] 02/20/2006: Rose from New Mexico: "It was getting to the point where I could not enjoy going out to eat or spend any time with my friend due to the sweats that left me wet from from my head, neck, arms and under my breast. It was so uncomfortable that I felt as if I was going to combust from the heat. Only a women can explain the feeling and how awful it makes you feel. A glass of soy milk a day stopped them, and if I did get one it was very, very mild."

[YEA] 08/23/2009: Rena from Mineral Bluff, Georgia, Usa: "I am a 48 year old woman have recently started having hot flashes and night sweats. I had no idea how uncomfortable they would be, until it finally happened. I could not sleep because of the constant heat coming and going. During the day, I would have at least 5 episodes of them, but at night I would suffer at least 10 episodes, with constant interruption of sleep. I tried the raw apple cider vinegar with no success. So next I tried the vitamin E. All I had in the cabinet was 1000IU so that is what I took. I must say it worked on the first night, and the second night, so I feel safe in saying it really works. I take it at night about an hour before bed, Peace, Rena."
