I did this and period SLOW'D down very fast... I was changing every 15-20 minutes with leaking too...before i got in the bath....so water helps me!!"
[YEA] Diana from New York NY: "I also found water helps. Laying in the bath (for 30 to 60 minutes or so depending on your situation) really seems to work well. A doctor I know also suggested showering might help as well. Another way I've found that works for me is rest. I've noticed that it seems to be heavier when I don't get enough sleep or if I'm stressed out. Try relaxing and making sure you get at least eight hours of sleep."

I had extremely heavy bleeding, terrible cramps, cold sweating, constant vommiting issues and really bad backpain due to my mestruation cycle. I used to miss work because I couldn't move due to the severe pain. I tried every tablet I knew of for menstrual cramps and pain. Been to the doctor several times and was put on iron tablets. I nearly died because of bad reaction to the different drugs. I was about to give up when I bounced up on this site. I decided to use the blackstrap molasses and the coconut oil recipes. I drank 1/2 tbsp blackstrap molasses in a glass of lemongrass tea once in the morn and once at night. During the day I took 2 tbsp pure coconut oil. I began 2 days before my menstrual cycle begun. When my menses came, I was so shocked, the pain was less, there was no heavy flow, I did not have to take any tablets and there was no vommitting. I was moving about freely! For all the womwn out there who are experiencing what I went through and worsen don't give up. Different things work in different ways for the human body. [NAY] 01/27/2013: Anon from Anon: "I tried the equal parts unsulfered organic BSM, unrefined organic coconut oil, and organic peanut butter to try to lighten my period. I started a few days before the period began. This is day two and it's very heavy. So it has not had any immediately noticible effect. It did not seem to affect my energy level either. But it does make a nice snack. And seems to help somewhat with constipation. I cannot tolerate carbohydrates or grains, so it may be related to that rather than iron deficiency. Or I have a reduced ability to absorb the iron. I did not try taking it with vitamin C."Replies
01/28/2013: Anon from Anon replies: "Hi, With Bsm it needs to be the non sulpher organic type and most of have to take atleast 1 large tablespoon atleast 3 times a day- drink lots of water too. Another remedy which could be easier for some people is a small glass of water with 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in it at least 3 times a day (drink through a straw). Honestly these work and it is amazing- I think if you are not seeing results then take more- both of these work for me- I prefer the ACV at the moment and sometimes as baking soda but it works without- good luck"

06/23/2012: Gen04 from Manila, Philippines: "I am 43 yrs old, diagnosed w/ adenomyosis since 2006. My OB Gyn scheduled me for gnrh shots starting my next period. A friend of mine recommended BSM, so I immediately bought one and taking it already. W/ the shots to temporarily stop my menstruation, would my daily use of BSM have an effect? Or should I stop taking BSM while undergoing the shots (it's once a month until I stop having my period)? Would be very thankful for opinions."
[NAY] 06/06/2012: Nia from Melbourne, Australia: "I tried BSM on the first day of my period last month and I didn't notice any different, I continued to take it every day 1 teaspoon with my coffee or green tea until I got it this month. The first 2 days was just brown spotting but I was happy until the third day I started to bleed and it is horrible and still going on till today. I actually think the BSM made it worse. It's heavier and there is more pain and nothing is working for the pain. And yes the BSM is unsulphured.
I'm so upset and I give up, BSM has helped so many people nearly everyone on this site says it helped them but it didn't help me. 11/14/2012: Wendy from Columbus, Oh/usa replies: "Tina said she had heavy periods. I have had them all my life. I read once on Dr. Wright's info that vitamin A helped. Take it for about three months then pull back or take a break. It has helped me greatly and one of my daughters. About 25000 iu 3 times daily. He does about taking it with some zinc and vitamin E to help absorption. You may want to try looking this up further."
[NAY] 05/11/2012: Nicole from Melbourne, Victoria Australia: "My story is I have been suffering with severe heavy bleeding and have a fear of leaving the house while on my period because of how hard it is to handle. I don't know what to do with my life. I constantly feel weak and tired and am afraid to apply for a job because I will need to stay at home 9 days a week while I have my period. I have seen many specialists but they all say that I am normal and this is just how my body is.
I tried Blackstrap molasses and it made me feel a lot calmer however it did not help with the bleeding. I live in Australia and the only one I found was Blue Label unsulphured blackstrap molasses. I used it on the first day of my period and it has been 5 days and I haven't noticed a difference at all except for me feeling a lot calmer.
I was so excited to try it but now I feel horrible, what if it doesn't work for me, what do I do then? I'm going to keep trying it maybe my body needs more time to adjust to it. I take it with one teaspoon in my green tea or coffee. Does anyone know why it's not working for me and if there are other brands to try that are in Australia?

05/11/2012: Tina from Houston, Usa replies: "Nicole from Melbourne, Victoria Australia, HELLO! Sorry to hear about your issue. I have suffered tremendously with the same issue and below are few things that shifted this in me...
1. Standard Process Ovex-P (available on Amazon).
2. Fermented Cod Liver Oil several tablespoons upto 4 per day especially at beginning of period. Rest of the month you can do 1-2 tablespoons per day. Get the best quality because it makes a huge difference.
3. Eat raw foods during your period which will cut down the quantity of blood loss as well as reduce number of days. When I eat raw my period last 5 days about medium blood flow. On cooked foods, I will bleed upto 15 days with very heavy flow.
4. Additionally I use dandelion tea through the month 1 cup daily to keep liver clean.
5. Foods with probiotics like homemade kefir, kombucha, and sauerkraut (all with live bacteria) have helped tremendously. Please google how to make these cheaply at home.
6. ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) Raw with mother - 2 tablespoons in 1. 2 cup lukewarm water with raw honey 2-3 times during period (and you can continue rest of the month too) great in balancing PH levels of body and will reduce blood flow tremendously.

05/12/2012: Heather from Leicester replies: "Hi Nicole, if you are like me and have heavy mensturation then it is very important that you get your blood checked every couple of months for iron levels. We can deplete our stores very quickly and low iron can lead to continuous bleeding. Coffee, tea, wine, chocolate can all affect iron absorption too whereas vitamin c helps it. I am on iron tablets again but I can testify that unsulphered black strap molasses really works- I take a teaspoon of Bsm followed by a small glass of water then repeat this in the morning then again in the evening, I am sure you could take more, it really does slow down the bleeding. Bsm also contains iron but if you are very low as identified via a blood test take iron and b 50 with vit c as well. Other signs of iron deficiency are cracks in mouth and lips that dont heal and pica cravings headaches feeling exhausted, heart palpitations sometimes pale skin and pale eye lids. Good luck"

It helped me, I have no bleeding at all, but still seeing a little pinky colour when I whiping myself. I have started my period on May 3. Anybody knows why I still seeing it? Does it meant I still spotting? How to stop it completly?"
06/02/2012: Nicole from Melbourne, Australia replies: "I have had so many blood tests done and they all come back normal, my iron levels are fine however I am tired all the time and have no energy and I'm very pale but my doctors keep telling me I'm fine and that everything looks normal.
Since my iron levels are fine I don't want to take more than 1 teaspoon a day of BSM because I heard it's unsafe but I will take both your suggestions and try ACV with my BSM.

Azdevka that's probably happening to you because your period didn't come properly and the blood wasn't released. I don't know how to help you sorry but a similar thing is happening to me, I got my period 2 days ago but it's not red its brown and its very light, like spotting and it looks like it's about to finish. Is this a good thing? Is it safe? I don't mind having a period like this but I want to make sure it's safe and can be a good thing.

I decided to give Blackstrap Molasses a try after reading all the posts and researching BSM a bit.
My periods have changed over the last couple of years. I feel like they are heavier and cramping is more noticeable. However, they are still fairly regular. I'm 37 now.
Two days into my period and right before bed, I mixed one heaping spoonful of BSM with about a quarter cup of water. I downed it but I didn't care for the taste. I tend to try out these remedies right before bed because I like to think that I am letting my body heal itself while I sleep.
Anyway, I woke up and I could tell the cramping was less severe and my energy level was up. I also noticed the flow was less heavy.
I had a second glass when I woke up, but this time I mixed a heaping spoonful with some soy milk. This was very yummy! All my cramping is gone, my energy level is up and the flow has lessened significantly.
l'm not sure if I'll continue this as a daily regimen (I do have concerns about mineral and Calcium build-up), but I will definitely add this to my arsenal of health remedies.

I tried the molasses this go round and was shocked to find a normal period though it lasted 7 day on the nose. My question is does anyone know why this stuff works? But I want to know what happened to all the blood and clots, are they still in there or did the molasses cause it to be reabsorbed or what. [YEA] 06/24/2011: Annie from Ontario: "This remedy does really work for balancing hormones, headaches, cramping and heavy bleeding during menstruation especially when peri menopause, I am 48 yrs old. It does take a couple of months to get results. I take 2 tsp daily either on toast or on a cracker. Usually once in the morning and once in the afternoon. It's truly amazing how it has changed these symptoms. Be patient and do it every day.
