[YEA]  10/26/2009: John from Glendale, California writes: "Wanting to cut back on my hard liquor consumption, I switched to red wine for about ten days. Just two glasses with my evening meal. Sure enough, it triggered my second gout attack. The first one required medication and took weeks to eliminate the agony. Thank God I found this site and thanks to all who wrote in about organic ACV. I went to the Whole Foods Market immediately and took about 3 ounces with 14 ounces of water. Whoeee that is stronger than straight 151 proof rum!! I did not add honey being diabetic. The pain in my right foot was reduced 80% by the next morning and completely eliminated within 48 hours. You have my complete and total gratitude."

[YEA]  11/28/2011: Henry from Lowell, Indiana replies: "Add me as another success story. After thanksgiving dinner, I woke up on Friday with a lot of pain on my right toe. I know I have a somewhat high level of uric acid but my doctor told me I only needed to reduce my red meat intake (which I've been doing for the last year). What the doctor didn't tell me is turkey meat is also associated with uric acid. I've been consuming a lot of turkey meat to make up for the lack of beef.

After reading this thread I decided to visit the grocery store and get the ACV. I drank about three glasses of a mix 10% ACV, 90% water and went to sleep. Next morning, no more limping. It's Monday and I can move my fingers no problem. I can even jump. I'll keep drinking ACV with water, orange juice, etc The taste is not too bad. I'm also adding it to my salads. I'll be ordering ACV capsules soon. Of course, I'll reduce my meat intake. It seems only fish is safe to eat.

Give it a shot even if you haven't had a gout attack."

[YEA]  12/11/2011: E.eddie from Detroit, Michigan replies: "just over a month ago I went to the ER with chest pains (I have an irregular hear heat) and what I thought was a painful blood clot in my right foot. Turns out I had a real high level of uric acid. I was told by my family doctor who I saw for a follow up to lay off all red meat, chicken, turkey. I only eat red meat once a week now and take ACV twice a day with 10 oz of cherry juice. I went back to the doctors office a month later and was retested for the uric acid level and was found to be in normal range. I use the (Braggs) brand. This has been wondeful. Arrhythmia

I also noticed that my acid reflux has almost gone away completely! I used to take pepsid ac two to three times a day. now I am lucky if I take it once to twice a week.

Since starting this diet my arrhythmia has almost gone away. I feel so much better then I have felt over the past year. I just need to lose some weight now."

12/26/2011: Gianelli from Atlanta, Ga replies: "Reading the posts here, a question pops out. ACV is supposed to REDUCE acidity (or keep body alkalinity high)? How does that work since the PH of any vinegar is acidic? I'm gonna give it a try anyway but it is certainly counter-intuitive."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  10/24/2009: Mel from New Harmony, Ut writes: "Wow, I spent several hours going through your site and others regarding gout and the causes and cures. I had already started to get hydrated by drinking a bunch of water. The pain that has be on and off for about two months and pretty bad the last couple days has subsided a bit. Well enough that I went to the Movies with my wife tonight. When we returned the pain was back to a higher level. BTW, I have not been diagnosed with Gout, but have all the symptoms. All the foods to avoid I love and have been trying to loose a little weight lately. We eat pretty healthy, mainly Bison and veggies. A couple days a week we eat vegan. So, finally after reading many comments on your site, I decided that since I had some ACV with "Mothers" in it on the shelf in the pantry, I would try 3 Tablespoons in a bit of water. I chugged it down about an hour and half ago. I sit here and can feel a tingle in my foot and the pain is going away as I sit here. I can wiggle my toe up and down with almost no pain, where before I could wiggle my toe, but there was pain. About a 7 on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most painful.

Wow, is all I have to say. I really didn't expect that. I expected to wake up and have no change and have to take more to feel anything. I will certainly continue this daily. I drive a tour bus and will make sure to take ACV with me on the road. I guess it is like an apple a day....thanks"

[YEA]  11/07/2011: Rn With Gout. from Chicago, Usa replies: "Well I spent the early hours of last night reading all of your opinions and feedback..... I had been awakened by an excruciating pain in my Rt big toe joint, with swelling, redness, hot to touch; I was sure I had injured it somehow. Then it hit me... Gout. I've treated many many patients with gout who were driven to the ER with the pain. They were always treated the same way, medications (Allopurinol, corticosteroids, ibuprofen), fluids and diet restrictions. It seems, as a 50 yo women going through menopause, my symptoms were spot on. I limped down the hall, took the Apple Cider Vinegar in hot water with tea. (Yes it was in the pantry) Shockingly, by morning I was 80% better and able to work. I will share this gem with my patients. It's truly the best response I've ever heard of, and experienced, and it's natural.

I know what works for one person may not for another, but it's worth a try!

Take care all"

11/14/2011: Tonyccc from Limassol, Cyprus replies: "Here is my story. I had my first gout attack about 10 years ago. At the beginning I was having attacks every 6 months. Then gradually I was getting them every 3 months, then every month and eventually every week. It started at my big toe and then it was moving sometimes in my knees, and generally all around my joints, in my feet. And the pain was agonising.
I have tried all the cures you can imagine. I tried ACV, lemons, drinking a lot of water, but to no avail. I tried water fasting, juice fasting, baking soda, again without success. I almost gave up meat, limiting it to only once a week , gave up alcohol completely, again no success. I was living on vegetables, lots and lots of fresh fruit, milk , cheese beans and so on. My
eating habits could not be healthier , or so I thought. But my gout was worsening.

Then I decided to increase the amount of fruit I was consuming, thinking that if some fruit is healthy, more fruit will be more healthy. Some days I was eating fruit only , others over 10 portions a day. And alas my gout instead of improving it became chronic, it was there all the time. I was desperate I did not know what to do.

And then one day accidentally I read an article about fructose, which is contained in fruit in large quantities. It said that it increases uric acid, in a matter of minutes. Fructose is also present in table sugar, and in HFCS, which is used in soft drinks. I put two and two together and realised what I was doing wrong. I stopped eating fruit and all other sugars, for a period of 3 weeks, and by magic I saw a dramatic improvement. Pain was gone, swelling was gone, I was fine. I re introduced fruit again in my diet but reducing them to 1 or 2 a day, and my gout completely disappeared. I do eat more meat now, and occasionally have an alcoholic drink, and thank God everything seems to be fine. Fructose was my enemy."

She adamantly refuses to use it because she claims that acidic foods cause burning sensations when she urinates. I was disappointed since after reading the testimonies I thought it would be a great alternative to the meds she is currently taking for gout. Any thoughts/suggestions? She currently takes meds for her irregular heart beat as well. Thanks!"

[NAY]  07/23/2009: Crystal from KY, USA writes: "My husband has been suffering for gout for around fifteen years. Whenever he had an attack the medicine the docter gave him would make him very sick and he would lose weight and become very weak. It was awful to see him in so much pain,he could not even stand for the bed sheet to rub his foot. I decided to try to find a natural cure for gout that might help him so i went searching on the internet and came upon this site. I read all the post about AVC greatly relieving and even curing peoples gout,I got very excited and since we had some on hand I got my husband to take the recomended dose that same night and the next day.I had great hopes that the ACV would help him but my hopes where dashed the next morning when he woke up with his big toe very swollen and in pain. I felt awful! He had not even been having an attack when I got him to try the ACV and now here he was in lots of pain after taking the ACV.....Not only did he have an attack but where he usually only got it in his feet for the next six months its spread from his big toe to his knees and on up into his hand and then into his elbow. All in all the attacks came one after the other for six months. Half of the year he was in almost constant pain! Now he has a HUGE knot on his elbow because the attack there was the worst one.

I have never felt worse in my life watching him in so much pain and feeling that I caused it because it was my idea for him to try ACV. I was desperate to help him and started asking local pharmacies what to do for him and it just so happened that one of the owners happened to have gout himself and told me to get my husband some cherry concentrate, he said it helped him better then anything. I found some black cherry concentrate at a local _____ for twenty dollars and even though I was now weary of home remedies I figured it really couldnt hurt so I had my husband start drinking the cherry concentrate and i am so glad i did because after about a week his attack in his elbow receded and now two months later he hasnt had anymore attacks. He walks better then he has in a long time.
From what I have read on here it seems as if ACV has worked for many people but my advice to anyone that is thinking of trying it for gout is, Please be very careful and weigh all your options before trying ACV or at least start out in a very small dose.

Thank You"

07/24/2009: Michael from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "As you can see from my email below, the ACV helped me 90% but not completely. However, while ACV was helping, it's interesting to note that INITIALLY, my big toe swelled more for about 3 hours with throbbing and some pain before it finally subsided and got it 90% cured quite quickly.

I suspect that the increased throbbing (with some pain) was the ACV sorta "dissolving" the "hardened" uric acid crystals in my toe and later eliminating it from my system. Maybe in your husband's case (15 years) there was just so much uric acid deposits that the dissolving/throbbing/pain process was more intense and takes longer than the 2-3 hours it took for me.

Just a guess; I'm no doctor.. but then again, doesn't seem like conventional doctors know about the true physical effects "earth medicines" either! lol"
09/06/2009: Lightfallonme from Brandon, MS replies: "Have been suffering from 1st onset of gout for months now, from knee down on both legs. Severe edema in both legs. Have not found a cure yet but will try some of the recipes found here. To the woman whose husband suffered from gout for 15 yrs, honey, you may have used the processed ACV. The vinegar you need to use is the organic apple cidar vinegar with the "stringy mother" in it. It's brown & gross looking but is the only one that works. It's loaded with potassium, vit c & nutrients you won't find in the processed junk. Doctors have been useless and I won't take the dangerous meds; however, the organic apple cidar vinegar provides relief & helps get rid of the fluid build-up that's so painful. Will try a combination of the treatments I see here & will let you know what works. ACV does provide enough relief for me to function but attack so severe, guess it's going to take a combination or longer length of time for cure & I'm not willing to wait longer."
09/21/2009: Roey from Somers, Ny replies: "Thank you for the info on ORGANIC apple cider vinegar. I totally agree it MUST be organic. My husband has suffered for gout for years, he was 60 when his first attack came. He was always very active but this horrible ailment stopped him in his tracks..literally. Conventional doctors are no help..they just prescribe meds with all kind of side effects and who knows what kind of problems they will cause down the road. It's a quick easy fix..which most people want. The real cure is possible but most people do not have the fortitude or ability to deprive themselves of all the unhealthy eating habits and mind altering substances that cause all the problems in the long run.

My husband went to a medical Doctor who trained in alternative healing with a famous MD and authority on Alternative healing. His prescripion was very simple..but also complex in other ways. He claimed that Gout is a sympton of clogged internal filters which need to be cleansed by detoxing. Basically the kidneys and lover are not functioning to capacity. He gave my husband a protocol which I did with him for support and why not optimize my own health.

For the first 2 weeks cut out everything acidic. Alcohol, caffine, animal fat (all red meat). Basically become a vegetarian. No white flour, refined sugar or gluten or wheat products. 64 oz of water and or herbal tea..no caffine. The next 7 days consists of 16oz of Green Juice from organic greens 4X per day. 8am 11am 2pm and 5pm in addition to 64 oz water/herbal tea. Enzymes and probotics are also recommended as well as other dietary supplements like a quality multivitamin.

Last but not least..get ready for this one..Daily Tap Water Retention Enema 1x per day. 1qt. water in bag with 4 drops lemon juice. Hold water in roll to left side hold 3 minutes if possible, come up to all 4's head slightly lower than your butt..hold 3 min..roll to right side hold 3 minutes..finally position self against wall and raise legs up wall..hold 3 minutes..after this release into toilet. If cramp deep breaths help. and messaging lower abs...This routine helps to relieve toxic substances and toxic effects from fast such as headaches and edginess. Rigourous exercise not recommended. Important to slow down.

The juice fast ingredients are: 1/2 cucumber, handful of parsley, 5 stalks of kale, 3 stalks fennel, 3 stalks of celery and 5 stems of dandelion, all organic. Add a small piece of ginger root. Coming off the fast is very important. Just some brown rice and steamed green vegitable, salads..no vinegar very acidic use lemon juice and olive oil. You cannot jump back into old eating pattern. Vegetarian life style works well for gouts sufferers or limit your animal protein. Rice pasta is a good alternative with olive oil and garlic. Light fish such as sole, flounder, snapper, cod..no shellfish..highly acidic. Try to substitute green tea for coffee which is also very acidic.

My husband has been gout free for 3 years. If it comes back he will just go through the protocol again. A small price to pay for good health and no more pain! Check out the work of Gabriel Cousens and the Tree of Life Rejuvination center. They are very radical and proponants of eating only raw vegetarian food but they have good tips on detoxing and how to do it safely. You can find them on line. Also retreat centers like Kripalu in Lenox Mass. and Omega in Rhinebeck NY offer supervised week long fasts. Good Luck!!! Oh yes..yoga and meditation are great ways to heal the body and the mind and learn to slow down."

09/22/2009: Julie from Ellwood City, Pa, Usa replies: "Cherries are another very successful home remedy to prevent gout. If you can eat fresh while in season, do so; otherwise, buying a can of cherry pie filling and eating the cherries will work also. It is up to you as to whether or not you want to rinse them off. Cherries are more successful than the RX medication Cholchicine for gout. Eat a can of cherries over a weeks time or so; eating just a few a day is all that is required. Simple and effective way to prevent gout "attacks" and faster at getting rid of gout if currently suffering."
10/31/2009: Charcoal from Hong Kong Sar, China replies: "I've got over 10 times of gout attack randomly around 7-8 years and now I'm having the 11th so I found this web site. I agree with Michael when the remedy works it dissolves the crystal so this happened to me is more painful to the joint(imagine the mountain of needles are breaking so you get more needles in the fluid), but after the overnight of deadly painful I will get better.

I didn't try the ACV but my handy remedy is mixing lemon juice with baking soda (half piece of lemon's juice mixing with baking soda until no more bubble developed, then dilute with glass full of water)

Also, I'm taking over the counter painful killer

However, I think any natural remedy is good for minor to moderate cases and I'm sure drinking water is the most natural one.

After first few attacks I never go to physician again because they don't understand your painful and they cannot monitor your situations at home."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  07/23/2009: Michael from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "Worse gout attack since first time and extremely painful (left big toe, or more like foot!), and cherries and medicines didn't cure it this time (worked before).

ACV 2 Tbsp 2x/day with juice worked very well, 90% improvement quite quickly (about 3-4 days) and removed the intense pain and swelling, and could walk 85% fine (kinda limp a bit) again...

However, it's been more than a week since that "big improvement" and I continue taking the ACV, yet there seems to be very little improvement since then, and it's still 5 to 10% painful/immobilized, and still cannot "fully" bend my toe (although before I couldn't bend it at all, couldn't even touch it).

Any comments? =0"

07/23/2009: alain from Ottawa, Canada replies: "Suggestions for gout.

You should get some pH paper and measure your urine pH. I read that 60%-80% of uric acid is eliminated with the urine. If the pH of the urine is for example 7 instead of 5 (very acidic) then 1000 times more uric acid is dissolved in the urine.

You can increase the pH (less acidic) if you take your ACV with baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). If you have water retention, half of the baking soda should be replaced with potassium bicarbonate or potassium citrate.

See http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/alkalizing_formulas.html

Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda Formula
Two tablespoon of ACV plus 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. Take this two to three times a day on an empty stomach. It is supposed to give you more energy. The pH of this formula is about 7.

For People with Sodium Issues and Want to Alkalize
1/8 teaspoon of baking soda 1/16 teaspoon of potassium bicarbonate 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid. Add water to 1/2 glass of water. Take this twice a day once in the morning and once in the evening on an empty stomach. This is done to avoid diarrhea problems, if taken along with food.

More formulas can be found.

Try to find more of my posts in EC for other alkalizing suggestions.

Also, search the internet for "Alkalizing foot baths".

Good Luck

It did rid me of gout over a few days, where before nothing was helping. I have been using them, or a mineral water drink to mask the taste of the vinegar, I just dont want to cancel out any of it's effectiveness, now that I am moving to the maintenance doses. I figured apple or grape juice would be fine, since you can make vinegar from the fruit. any thoughts are helpful."

[YEA]  07/07/2009: Dave from Lancashire, England writes: "I last had gout 8 years ago. It was a very bad attack and the doc gave me Naprosyn but unfortunately the attack lasted for weeks. Last week after too much cheese and wine, I felt another attack coming on. My big toe started swelling and was inflamed and red. The pain was building up and I prayed it wasn't going to be another fully-fledged attack. I found this site and sent for some organic acv. I took a couple of tablespoons in a glass of water 3 times a day and adapted my diet to include lots of water, celery, cherries, strawberries, salad, radish and other healthy stuff. I also took some turmeric, vit C, chelated magnesium and milk thistle.

I bought some comfrey oil and put some on the toe. (I once cured a badly frozen shoulder with a poultice of comfrey leaves from my garden). Within about 3 days, the pain lessened, the swelling went down and I could walk again. Boy was I relieved. It was like winning the lottery. I have had several attacks of gout over the years and I do not want that pain again. I refused to see a doctor after the tablets he prescribed last time had little or no effect - except possibly side-effects.

I will take a maintenance dose of ACV and I sincerely hope that anyone who has gout can control it with ACV and the right diet. Keep off those drugs."

[YEA]  07/07/2009: Debi from Norfolk, VA writes: "I couldn't understand the last few weeks why my feet were getting so bad again, when they have seemed practically cured for over six months. Then it occurred to me. I had run out of my jug of apple cider vinegar (with the mother in it) and with so much going on having summer guests and whatnot, I had forgotten to replace it.

It made perfect sense why my feet were getting so bad again and I was in misery - so I got another bottle yesterday and did my usual 6 oz of water with a tablespoon of the vinegar mixed in (no honey or anything else) and sipped it all morning until it was gone, then had another glass (same mixture) in the late afternoon.

My feet this morning are so improved, I can't believe it. Of course I am not skipping this little daily drink again (also using it in salad dressing and in any recipes that call for vinegar). It truly does work!"

EC: Hi Debi. Are you referring to gout or an arthritic condition? We're posting this on the gout page in the meantime...

[YEA]  05/13/2009: GEO from Hoyland Nether, South Yorkshire writes: "While doing some web research to help a friend find relief from gout, I discovered I was suffering with it after seeing photos and reading about the symptoms - swollen big toe, red spots, and of course, excruciating pain.

My sister is a vehement advocate of apple cider vinegar (ACV) and honey for anything that ails you; consequently, I checked it out on the Internet as a gout remedy, and the overwhelming response from people was that it worked wonders.

Being an ex-investigative environmental journalist, I wanted to find out why for my own satisfaction. From the preponderance of anecdotal testimonies alone, my research overwhelming indicated that ACV has helped people with a host of maladies, and has been used for thousands of years for everything from foot fungus to kidney ailments.

However, in spite all the positive personal testimonies as to ACV's effectiveness, I couldn't find any any substantive scientific research to back to back the glowing testimonials. In fact. When I finally found the analysis for trace minerals in ACV, the amount people take should have no impact whatsoever on any malady. Acetic acid is about the only active ingredient that would impact anything.

So eliminating myself from any placebo effect bias, I tried a few tablespoons of ACV in water. It alleviated the major symptoms shortly after the first dose. After two days, I only have some residual pain in the ball of my foot instead what felt like festering boil two days before."

And for the first time in my life (it started yesterday)... An excrutiating pain developed almost instantly in my right big toe. From what I've read, it's probably gout? So I'm trying the apple cider vinegar in water approach, just drank it at 9:45PM... I will report here again what kind of results (if any) I get. WISH ME LUCK!"
[NAY]  06/18/2011: Money from Chicago, Il replies: "Reporting back (as promised) with the apple cider vinegar & water approach: ZERO POSTIIVE EFFECT! FYI, I used a Kroger private label brand, not sure if that matters? It's nearly 11 hours later, can barely bend my big toe (pain seems to be sourcing from the first joint), still swollen. My toe was throbbing and banging so hard last night, I didn't get much sleep and damn near started crying. Any ideas out there folks?"
06/18/2011: Goutattack from Portland, Oregon, Us replies: "Uhg. I know that feeling all too well. You can try the 'ol massive NSAID like Ibuprofen for the inflammation. Or the doc will give you a stronger one like indomethacin. I take 2 to 3 times the recommended over-the-counter recommended dose of Ibuprofen (per doctors advice). Combine that with Tylenal (for the pain). Don't take Asperin. Tylenal and NSAID's can be taken together.

The downside to this approach are the side-affects of NSAID's. They can put a hurt on your stomach.

I've had gout for years and just started taking ACV last night. Jury is still out for me."

06/18/2011: Money from Chicago, Il replies: "Just read more information saying apple cider vinegar actually turns into alcohol in the body - exactly what you DON'T want for gout. Who knows? But I know this: It's nearly 16 hours since I started hammering down several doses of the vinegar & water mixture and... My toe is just as sore & swollen (maybe even more). Bummer."
[YEA]  06/18/2011: Kelly from Cambridge, Massachusetts replies: "If the ACV doesn't work, try dark cherry juice concentrate. It is the bomb-diggity for gout. :) It's thick like syrup, and you can buy it at GNC. Take one tablespoon 2-3 times per day and you'll be good to go in no time."
06/25/2011: Money from Chicago, Il replies: "June 25, 2011. Reporting again on my first-time "bout with gout" and what I've been doing to address it. It hit fast & hard on June 18, and it's still very bad (June 25). Although I realize this didn't manifest overnight, it may not be realistic to expect an instant cure (although I welcome that). Not sure if I'm just more used to the pain, or if there's improvement, or both. The toe is still swollen/throbbing/stiff & sore, plus some redness.

I have tried: No booze of any kind; ACV with "Mother" & water; Black Cherry Juice extract (tasty as hell no doubt); garlic tablets; Cherry fruit extract capsules; "Total Cleanse" Uric Acid capsules from Solaray; lots of water; ice pack. Just now, I tried mixing some baking soda with water & drank that down.

I will report back again if there's any progress to report (please GOD!!! ). This really sucks folks."

06/25/2011: Carly from Seattle, Wa - Usa replies: "Hi Money -

My husband has had gout a couple of times a year for the past decade. It doesn't seem to matter what he eats or doesn't eat. He has had it in his big toe, his ankle, and his knee. I therfor consider myself somewhat of a gout "wife-expert".

But - BIG BUT!!!! ~ his has never lasted as long as you have been suffering (and yes, I know the suffering.... I damned near want to kill him by the time he is on the mend.) ;-)

Questions / Suggestions: Have you been icing it? Apply ice - 20 mins on, 20 mins off. A bag of frozen peas or corn with a hand towel wrapped around it works really well. You will be amazed at what elevating the offending joint, and applying ice can do....

Have you been to a doctor? Some other very bad things can look like gout. I remember one of the very first times my husband had it in his ankle, and they thought it might be cellulitis. If it is cellulitis, you need an IV of antibiotics, asap. If it is HOT and RED, and is not better after this many days, you NEED medical attention.

I am not a big fan of the standard medical field - have not had a prescription shoved down my throat in years.... And here this is my second post of the day suggesting someone see a doctor... Something is out of alignment in / with the universe. lol.

I hope you are feeling better by now, so this post is not necessary... but if you are not - please consider what I said.

:-) ~Carly"

Ps-i have been taking colchicine but the upset stomach side effects are disabling to put it mildly. I then was prescribed colcrys but it is doing nothing. I cant drink cherry juice because of the sugars it contains. Wondering if cherry capsules contain sugars??? If this works, it will be nothing short of a miracle."

[YEA]  05/01/2009: David from Midland, Tx writes: "I have had a swollen, painful big toe joint on my right foot for over two years. The left foot was becoming dotted with red spots as well as swelling in both ankles. Went to the Dr. in March, 2009 and he dignosed Gout and gave me 100mg of allopurinol daily. No improvement as of April 29. I looked up Gout cures on the internet that night and saw Apple Cider Vinegar being used with positive results. I remember family members who are all gone now, taking honey and apple cider vinegar for lots of ailments, so thought, what the heck. I took 3 tablespoons of cider yesterday a.m., last night and this morning I have no pain nor redness. This is unbelievable. I also stopped taking the meds which I know you aren't to do. These results in my case are amazing. My wife cannot believe all the redness disappeared overnight. I hope this keeps up."

[NAY]  04/15/2009: Chans from American Fork, UT writes: "I was very skeptical when trying ACV but then what do I have to lose? Well after 3 days I'm limping worse than when I started ACV. Before I can limp around but now it seems like it's spread to other joints in my foot that I'm not able to even move around at all. I was doing 2 tbs 1 cup of water for 3 times a day and taking Shark Cartlidge pills. I have a Disney World trip with my family the end of May. I hope to God it is gone then so I've not given up on ACV just yet."

01/01/2010: Erics from Elko, Nevada, Usa replies: "Hello Chans, my name is Eric and I live one state to the west of you. I have had gout on and off for 10 years. Have you been experiencing gout for a long time? I suspect the intensifying pain with your initial ACV treatment is due to the UA crystal build-up dissolving in your joints and becoming liberated. I took Allopurinol (wow, bad stuff) and the same thing happened to me for 3 months.. frequent attacks (although shorter) and in areas that I had never had gout before. The unfortunate nature of excess uric acid is that it leaves abundant deposits in your joints that you might not be aware of. It could be that continued ACV use will help rid you of those "hidden" deposits and your overall joint health will improve."

It seems they want more meds to help! Go figure. I am going to try the ACV 1 tablespoon, with 1 tablespoon of honey or less since she has type 2 diabeties, with 4 oz of water. Will post back. Also for Blood Pressure during menopause, the natural biodentical hormones help. Carol"

[YEA]  02/26/2009: Jay from Scottsdale, AZ writes: "Apple cider vinegar has helped with my latest gout attack. My first attack happened a year ago and I was clueless about a solution. It took a week to see a doctor and by then it was improving. I limped around for weeks.

My second attack happened two days ago and I immediately applied an aspirin cream to my toe. That was a huge mistake, the pain got worse. Later I started on apple cider vinegar with honey, grape juice, cherry juice, huge volumes of fluids and soaking my foot in epsom salts.

When the next night was also sleepless, I was despondant. I had suicidal thoughts. I could not imagine living with that kind of pain for the rest of my life. After reading all of the success stories I was ready to give up . . . but I didn't. I reduced the amount of meat and increased fruit and vegetables in my diet and continued the same therapy. By afternoon I was walking with significantly less pain.

Today, day three, there is a painful red spot on the side of my toe. I am able to bend the joint in both directions with little pain. I am walking with little discomfort. Next time I have a gout attack, I will get out of bed and begin the healing process immediately."

I stumbled across the Earth Clinic website. They recommended ACV with the "mother". I took two tablespoons in 6 oz. of warm water three times a day (morning, noon and night). I have not had a flare-up in two weeks. ACV seems to work well for my gout. I will continue to take ACV at least once a day for the near future."

[YEA]  02/18/2009: Stu from Pleasanton, California writes: "I was diagnosed with gout 7 years ago after an excrutiating acute episode in my right toe. After several painful episodes, I went on allipurinol for years very successfully but wanted to get off not thinking that there were natural cures anywhere. After reading the ACV therapy I gave up the drugs cold turkey. I knew this was not wise as your body needs to ease off of it. Sure enough within five days I felt the right toe episode with which I had so long dealt with coming on. I immediatly tried the ACV approach. I did 1 - 3 tablespoons mixed with Cherry juice and after three doses in the same day I knew I would know by the next morning whether or not this would work. Sure enough it was subsiding during the day and gone by the morning. Definitly works so far! Thanks!!"

I could hardly walk at all and not walking just doesn't fit into my life as a restaurant owner I am on my feet 12-14 hours a day.The Dr. prescribed Celebrex but after she told me all the side effects I was too scared to take it. So Sunday nite I found this web site and thought Ill the apple cider vinegar approach. I had a near full bottle of a store brand. I mixed 3 tablespoons in a glass very cold water and a couple hours later mixed another 3 tablespoons in another glass of cold water. I thought it was hurting lesss and the swelling was going down after a couple hours but I could'nt be sure. When I woke the morning next it was way less swollen and did not hurt near as much. I took another dose before my am coffee and went to the medical supply store and purchased a velcro shoe. My foot was so swollen my shoe made it worse. 3 more doses and 24 hours later the swelling and pain is 90% gone! Thank you very much for this infomation!!!"

[YEA]  10/09/2008: Rebecca from Aberdeen, Washington writes: "Apple cider vinegar all but eliminated swelling and pain. I am 58 and have been in good shape most of my life but had a low back injury over 3 years ago and have had severe pain and stiffness which has sent me to doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, massage therapists and even a rolfer for 15 sessions! All of these helped but very temporarily. I have also been doing yoga and exercises from a book called Relaxercise (excellent by the way) which have also helped but only somewhat. I had been getting worse within the past few months and had develped knee, foot and hand pain along with swelling of these areas especially one ankle and foot which was twice the normal size. It hurt to walk or wear any type of shoe. My husband is an RN who looked at my swollen ankle and foot and told me it almost looked like gouty arthritis. This comment prompted me to research the subject and I found a blog of 100's of people all of who had been using ACV and all but 1 person rated the treatment 5 stars. I immediately went to a health food store and bought the organic, unfiltered ACV and started by taking 3 tablespoons in a large glass of water sweetened with organic raw honey. Following the first dose the night before, I woke to find the swelling reduced to about 1/4 of what it had been and the pain nearly gone. The stuff works like a miracle! I have continued to take it every day but have cut down the dose to 2 tablespoons 2-3 times per day in the same amount of water with honey. I have only a twinge of pain and 1 spot of swelling about the size of a quarter remaining on my ankle. Amazingly, my low back has less pain and more mobility than what I have ever had since the injury over 3 years ago. All this and I have only discovered this treatment less than 1 week ago! Amazing!!"

[YEA]  09/25/2008: Tim from Garland, Texas writes: "First a little history as Im not new(unfortunately) to gout attacks.I have been a gout sufferer for about 6 years .Normaly I would just bear the pain and wait it out. About a year ago my mother-in-law advised about black cherry juice for gout so I gave it a shot..It helped alot but took about 3-4 days of daily use to improve
I came down wih a FULL BLOWN PAINFUL gout attack in my right ankle on Sunday night. It had swollen twice its normal size. I suffered hoping it would go away on its own by this weekend due to a big athletic event I had committed to, well anyway by Tuesday I feared the worst it had not improved, in fact was getting worse- So on Wed morning I became desperate and began researching the net to avoid a last resort of a visit to the Doctor's office I came across this site on a google search..I saw the buzz over ACV..So I rushed to the grocery store and grabbed some..By late evening -nothing in fact it continued to worsen.. However, I wasnt ready to give up.. I remembered seeing a post about the unfiltered organic varity with the "Mother" in it. I went to Vitamin Shoppe and grabbed two bottles.. When I returned home in intense pain I might add, I put 3 tsp in 8 oz of watter and drank it down and hobbled to my recliner and watched tv..Within 2 hours the swelling and redness were going away . I took one more dose prior to bedtime at about 10:30 pm and the next morning it was 80% GONE!!! Another dose this morning prior to coming to work and I'm at 90% with normal walking!!!.. How this stuff can work like it did within 12 hours is beyond me but Im now a believer in ACV !! Whoever it was that discovered this God bless you.. Thanks again for being there and helping with this painful nasty ailment."

[YEA]  09/21/2008: Tammy from Vail, AZ writes: "I have always been a healthy woman with little ailments, but the past few months my uric acid levels have been extremely high. My mouth, armpits and privates had a metallic smell. My nuturionalist told me that my kidneys were not excreting the toxins in my body properly. He started me on a detox program with little results. I made an appointment with my primary care doctor who explained that he might have to put me on medication to reduce my acid levels to avoid getting gout. I told him I was in the middle of a holistic purge and would like to wait for the outcome before he prescribed medicine. Two days later I had my first case of gout in my right big toe (I initially thought my toe was broken as it was painful to walk on). Within a day, my top left foot began hurting and my knuckles on both index fingers were stiff and swollen. After searching the web for my symptoms, I realized I had gout that the doctor warned me about. I was determined to find a holistic approach and began searching the web for information. I found this site reading the testimonies of others that sounded a lot like mine story. I decided to try the ACV remedy that night. I took 2 TBLSP in 6 oz of water and within 1 hour the pain subsided, within 2 hours I saw a great improvement. About 3 hrs later, I took another dose before going to bed. When I woke in the morning, all pain and swelling were gone and my uric acid is reduced as my body is not excreting the metallic smell. I will definitely make ACV a part of my everyday life. "Thank you" to all those who shared their experiences with me and to this website for publishing them."

[YEA]  08/14/2008: Brian from Albany, New York writes: "I was starting to suffer from a gout attack, and have been really thinking of the side effects of my medicine. So I decided to search the web for a natural cure. I got to this site on the first try, and started reading. I thought, WOW, Apple cider vinegar, that would be easy. So I took the 3 tablespoons and by 2 hours later the pain was going away. By morning, I was completely pain free. I am so excited, and relieved, because the medicine I was on wasn't working great or fast. ACV taste really strong and bad, but it is a ton safer and better for you than medicines are. Also, my medicine is expensive, ACV cost about $1.39 for a gallon jug. Try it, it works!"

[YEA]  07/29/2008: Rich from London, UK writes: "Add me to the yeas. I've been suffering from gout for about a month - after the usual blood test - 10 days ago I was prescribed Allopurinol 100mg. But it didn't stop the serious pain or resolve the serious swelling in my left foot. By Sunday night 11pm I was unable to stand up as the pain throught my foot was so severe. This included the tendon and the big toe. That's when I searched the web and found this site. Usually a total sceptic, I tried the ACV suggestion - 4 tablespoons in a glass of water. Then I went to bed. By the time I woke up around 7am both the swelling and the pain had gone. Amazing. Today, Tuesday, 36 hours later, I was running down the road to catch a bus. I've now bought some Organic ACV and take a glass in the morning and another in the late afternoon which seems to be doing the job. Total cost of ACV solution, which has also reduced my stress level back to Zero. $1.35 or $2.70 for around 10 days supply. So if you know someone in gout pain get them to try ACV."

Does the ACV really keep Gout at bay..keep the swelling down? I have been doing ACV for two days, 1/4 cup to 1/4 cup of honey and I drink it all down twice a day, morning and night. Also, taking prescribed medication for my pain and swelling in my right foot. So far, been two days and no relief. I do not have the pain I had, but I still have swelling in my foot. Tingling and burning, but not the pain I had when I went to the ER for this. I also had this for over three weeks before I went to the doctor do you think this is the problem? I waited too long for help? I read your success story and now I want to know is it really successful, regular ACV compared to Organic ACV? Thanks so much for the help."
10/20/2009: Lisa from Thousand Oaks, Ca, usa replies: "I don't know if you've tried this or not but cherry juice will relieve gout. Years ago when my dad was first plagued by gout, I did research for him and found this remedy out. I would get cherry juice for him from the health food store. Over the years, he seems to have fewer bouts and he is now 76. He is very active but periodically, he'll have a bout. He now knows to immediately get cherry juice and that nips it in the bud. Do you have a Trader Joe's by you? They carry cherry juice I believe but am not absolutely certain. Anyway, his relief is usually within a day of drinking it. Hope this helps."
10/20/2009: Tricia from Ireland replies: "Cherries also helped a friend of mine. Just the ordinary glace cherries that you would use on a cake. He could'nt get the fresh ones as they were out of season. Also you are using way too much acv and honey. The remedies usually call for 2 tablespoons in 8 oz water 2 x day of either at the most. Because you should be trying to alkalise your gout you should probobly try 2 tbsp acv 1/4 teaspoon bread soda in 8 oz water."
10/20/2009: Dricci93 from Fairfield, Maine replies: "Thank you so much for the information on Cherry Juice, I am desperate enough to try anything. what I do not understand is: this site recommends Apple Cider Vinegar for the help of Gout, however, apple cider vinegar is full of acid...and gout is from too much acid. Maybe I should try to develop a taste for cherry juice, thanks again."
