Edema Cures
"Edema (American English), oedema or aedema (British English), formerly known as dropsy or hydropsy, is the increase of interstitial fluid in any organ -- swelling. Generally, the amount of interstitial fluid is determined by the balance of fluid homeostasis, and increased secretion of fluid into the interstitium or impaired removal of this fluid may cause edema.
Edema has five pathophysiologic causes. It can be due to increased hydrostatic pressure, reduced oncotic pressure, lymphatic obstruction, sodium retention, or inflammation." (Wikipedia)

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 09/08/2010: Yesterdaysecho_jen from Collinsville, Oklahoma: "After going on a two mile walk three nites ago my right leg from knee down to foot swelled, bad. I started taking the two teaspoons of vinegar yeasterday morning and hoping to start on the peroxide treatment as well, but I'm concerned about this swelling... Though it's down some, I'm concerned about the walking now and wondering if whatever's causing this swelling the vinegar will take care of... ? Any response would be so appreciated."
Replies09/25/2010: Glo from Woodbridge, Va replies: "Hi, I've tried ACV, and there is some reduction, but... Your first priority should be to determine the cause of your swelling. Get the appropriate diagnosis from your physician, which will lead you to the proper course of treatment. This could be muscular, and require something altogether different. Some also research their symptoms on the Internet. Either way, start there and then research treatment. I hope this helps. BTW, if you already have a diagnosis, plz include in ur description, and it should help."

Doc's just prescribe lasix or other dieuretics. Most of the time I have no success, just putting those drugs in my system. I take 2 tbsps of ACV twice a day, this does not reduce the edema. I have sincerely eliminated salt from my diet as much as possible, even before the edema I was not much of a salt fan. This is so frustrating. does anyone have home remedy suggestions for me?"
Replies08/21/2009: Maureen from Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada replies: "To Glo from Woodbridge, VA, I strongly advise you to try the Inclined Bed Therapy. It is just a matter of putting something like bricks, wooden blocks etc. under the head of your bed so it is elevated 6"-7" depending on the size of your bed. I started 14 nights ago and am seeing a slight reduction in fluid in my ankles. That is pretty amazing for having the problem over 40 years!!!Check Earth Clinic's Inclined Bed Therapy section for information from Andrew Fletcher http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/incline-bed-therapy.html.
That is how I started. I planned on reporting the results to Earth Clinic after I see significant results but since you asked I am reporting now.
My story is at the top of page 10 on Andrew's Naked Science website http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=9843.0

[YEA] 09/20/2008: Jodi from La Quinta, CA: "Edema, Poor Circulation:
I recently was told by my Naturopath to begin 1Tbsp of ACV before every meal. One of my health complaints has been very swollen ankles ( even legs sometimes) and cold pale feet. It has been a week and among other things, my ankles are very skinny, my feet now have color again and my overall circulation has improved. I also have dropped 5 pounds- but I'm also following the Elmination Diet to identify allergies so I can't completely credit that to the ACV. My whole body seems to have been de-bloated. I notice that after drinking the ACV my appetite wanes, so I do eat less and can definitely feel my food digesting.
One way to know if you are digesting food properly or not is to check your stools. Do you recognize your meals? If you can identify what's there- you are not digesting your food.
I'm thrilled with the results so far and am anxious to see what else happens from my new dosing."

[YEA] 09/24/2007: Carolyn from Winchester, VA: "I love this site. I stumbed upon this site about a week and a half ago and started the apple cider vinegar remedy last week. I love the taste, in water. I put 4 tablespoons of ACV in 20 fluid oz and sip it all morning at work. My appetite has decreased as has my taste for sweet things. I am terribly overweight and have had weight problems all my llife, had 4 knee surgeries and have arthritis and edema. My pain has lessened as my edema has and I really feel healthier. This is something I would recommend to everyone! Thank you for this website. My only problem is when I get home I feel suddenly a big decrease in energy, which is not so bad since I have been feeling so sluggish the new energixed feeling I have had is very welcome. I was just wondering if I should drink a tablespoon more of ACV when I get home in order to keep the energy level up. I did not want to over do the ACV as I am new to this. Thanks for any help! Sincerely grateful, Carolyn Wolfe"

One of my problems had been swelling of my ankles wrists, & lymph nodes. Since I have been oil pulling, and using ACV the swelling has decreased alot even when I sit long periods of time. One thing that happened while I was taking blkstrap molasses 1 tbs. a.m. and one before bedtime. I gained weight because of the rich vitamins so I cut down to just 1 tbs. before bed. Oh! and the spider veins are fading around my ankles and legs. Where do I get colorless iodine?"

And all doctors could suggest is poor ciculation and one way valves in leg not working properly and would have to wear pressure socks for the rest of my life but I was not willing for this and kept earching and tryinng all sorts of natural things but when finally I went back to black strap molasses which I used to take for nose bleeding & cured that and after some time of use I ran out of it & forgot to replace it and got swlling problems but never connected it to molasses but after 2 yrs for some reason tried molasses again and after some time I noticed something , less swelling to happen and gradually dissapearednd not even swelled during the day anymore and so must be the molasses that played a part in circulation for me in my legs and so will continue taking it for this is a much better cure than wearing pressure socks whch did not go to fix the problem anyways. Thank You"

But I've had a swelling edema problem in my feet & ankles & legs for 5 yrs already & have worn compression socks which I hate and they don't solve the problem anyways. I have upped my molasses intake to at least 3 tblspns daily for aprox a wk now and don't see the results I hear people write about yet I'm very hopeful. BUTCHER'S BROOM

[YEA] 06/11/2009: Gabrielle from Pottsville, PA: "Butcher's Broom for ankle/feet swelling:
I've been suffering off and on with swollen feet/ankles for many years. Most of the time it has passed within a short amount of time with little effort (such as drinking more water and elevating my legs/feet on pillows). Recently the swelling came on after being laid off from work for a couple months - spending too much time at my computer! I tried the pillows several times to no avail. Every time I put on shoes and took a walk to help circulation, the swelling in my feet would simply move up worse into my ankles. I researched online and in the many books I have for herbal remedies and came to the conclusion that Butcher's Broom was the most recommended of anything. I went and got some at my local natural food store and took the regular dose (two 500 mg) and within just a couple of hours I realized I could once again see the veins on the tops of my feet and the swelling had reduced by at least half. I could feel a huge difference and the relief -both physical and mental- was immense."

FULVIC ACID COMPLEX
Ratings:
|
[YEA] 06/06/2011: Bill from San Fernando, San Fernando, Philippines: "Hi Everyone... A little while ago, an old Filipino family member whom we know well was reported to be suffering quite badly from leg edema as well as particularly bad skin problems all over her body. She is an 84 y o grandmother matriarch who lives alone(by choice) in the Balamban mountains on Cebu Island in the Philippines. It's very primitive there, no electricity or hospitals. You can only get to where she lives by motorbike-taxi because the roads are so very poor and its far from Cebu city.
Anyway, her family in Cebu city were worried about her and so they contacted us. The grandmother is also a vegetarian and still very healthy -- she used to hike the mountains regularly but, because of the edema, now has problems just walking. The family wanted her to go into the hospital in Cebu, but she flatly refused because she hates cities.
The gist of this was that I sent her a fulvic acid product, which also contained zeolite, concentrated ascorbate and all the major electrolyte minerals for the body. To be honest this was a shot in the dark by me -- the description of her problem given by her family was very sketchy and non-specific -- so there could have been many other things causing her problems and so I just sent her the Fulvic acid complex in the hopes that it would work for her and have particular beneficial effects on her kidneys, liver and blood. The product -- which is taken in drops and is only sold in the Philippines -- is called Quantumin Plus. The dose I recommended was 10 drops two or three times a day with water or Tea. I have seen similar fulvic acid complexes sold in the US online.
Today, we have just received word -- after a month -- that her skin problems are now healing rapidly and the edema in her legs has reduced significantly. She has been taking no other medicines(she hates hospitals too). She is now able to walk normally and apparently continues happily tending her pigs and chickens as well as tending the small coconut forest in her garden. I simply remain astonished at the power and usefulness of this fulvic acid drops mixture."

[QUESTION] 12/16/2009: Gilbert from Orlando, Fl: "Swollen painful feet
I'm not sure what's going on. My feet have been so swollen and painful that I walk funny when taking the first few steps. I went to a specialist and all he did was offer me steroids. He said it may be related to plantar faciitis or for some reason the length of my toes. This has never happened before. Any ideas?"
Replies12/16/2009: John from Chicago, Il replies: "Swollen feet can indicate either gout or diabetes. If you can afford to, you should go to a regular doctor for diagnosis. I am surprised your podiatrist didn't tell you about gout or diabetes possibilities. Odd."
07/29/2011: Robyn from Melbourne, Australia replies: "I have the same problem - excruciating!! I also have very flat feet and saw an ad for that problem - plantar faciitis - the symptoms being when you hit the floor after a nights sleep extremely painful feet. The podiatrist sells you a kind of stirrup. Do you have flat feet? Do you wear orthotics? But it could also be as mentioned diabetes. For me, Im also wondering if all this excess calcium in my body is making my circulation so slow this is just another symptom. My whole body is in extreme pain in the morning until the morphine kicks in but if I could get rid of the feet pain it would stop me nearly puking in the morning."

At the same time I tried it for my chronic cold feet. Within 10 days things improved and she can now travel by plane without swollen feet! I was on 12 m of therapy for hypertension-Norvasc when its known side -effect of oedema became acute. In less than a week off N. but drinking green tea with ginger I was back to norma l(Green tea is also proven to ameliorate hypertension)."

Had a blood test and kidneys and blood sugar looked good. Regularly take Butchers Broom and ACV to no avail. Any help?"

03/02/2010: Mary from Regina, Saskchewan, Canada replies: "Hi: Regarding edema, have you checked your thyroid for hypothyroidism. Also be careful because blood tests only reveal a glandular problem not a peripheral problem. So if you make the hormones but your body is not accessing them at a cellular level you can still be hypothyroid. Home test for hypothyroidism is a body temperature test. Get a digital thermometer and measure yourself in the mouth 3 times a day and average it out. First measurement is 3 hours after waking then in 3 more hours and lastly 3 hours from that. Should Be 37 or 98.6."
02/27/2012: Elana from Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada replies: "This is good for edema... In a large stockpot place:2 potatoes with skins, 3 carrots, 1/2 head cabbage, handful of fresh parsley, 1/2 bunch broccoli. Add lots of water and bring to boil till tender and drink the juice. I make enough for 2 days and drink at least a quart a day or whatever you like. It tastes so good and the feet swelling goes down. I make soup from the vegetables and that is yummy too!"

I had an ankle fusion (fused at talus) on Right Foot/Ankle Only;11 months ago, and about 6 months ago started having terrible issues with foot pain/plantar faceitis/ect. But the real issue is that during the night my right foot (measured at mid foot and below toes) swells about 1 to 1.5 inches around. It feels not only painful upon rising but as if I am trying to walk on a water balloon. The swelling gradually lessens throughout the day. The left foot and ankle are normal. This really concerns me and the Doc's just shrug and shake their heads. Please note that I have arthritis in the right foot from a broken mid foot in 2003. The original damage that forced fusion was compound right tib-fib-ankle joint fractures in winter 84, right ankle has had multiple surgeries prior to fusion, but never anything like this odd swelling???

I am on 800 kcal diet with water in is 2 cups per day. My body temp is always low in morning 95.5 F and during day it's max 96 to 96.5. I read about Wilson syndrome but my doctor refused to give me any T3 because all my thyroid test is in normal range. I check my urine PH as well in morning which is in 5 acidic range normal litmus strip range 5to 9. I personally think that hyper adrenal is my problem even though my kcal intake is 800 diet a day from long time. My potassium intake is 800 to 900 while following the above 800 kcal diet
I cannot tolerate more potassium before it used to be 500 a day since I get sweaty hands but now that problem is solved since my adrenals are bit stronger. My 800 kcal diet include 4ounce chicken and 1/2cup alb ran and once cup skim milk. I am not taking any calcium support for long time since I have calcium deposit in my bones. My bone density T score is 2.5 which is very high.
My PTH hormone score is 1.45 range 1.6 - 6.9 & Cal 10.5 range 8.5- 10.5. I did hair analysis as well which showed calcium magnesium sodium and vanadium selenium plus strontium is high range. I cannot understand with all these years following 800 kcal diet why my body tissues deposit minerals?
These days I have turbinate swelling problem and my ESR is 40. I am looking forward for any suggestions and any clue with these health issue since my Dr said everything is fine with me. Once again thank you for your time and may god bless you. Thnks"
08/27/2011: Pamm from Alabaster, Al replies: "Hello I also have had these issues however looking at your labs your cortisol is way too high, you need to find a way to lower that. Make sure your seeing a Endocronologist for this that specializes in Adrenal Glands. Out of Balance Cortisol can cause the swollen (inferior) turbinates in your nose, this is what I have also. Are you on any medication from the doctor? Your Calcium is also too high & need to take Vitamin D3 to balance this out & stay away from calcium for now. Higher calcium levels can cause calcium deposits. Why are you on such a low calorie diet? That is very low, and if you don't get enough calories it can put stress on your adrenal glands. Sounds like your have Adrenal Fatigue. As far as your Ph levels being acidic follow Ted's protocol on here in morning on empty stomach squeeze fresh lemon or lime in a cup add a little baking soda & little water and drink it this will bring up your urine ph within a hour. Just look up Acidic Ph on here. I hope you figure out what is going on, and I hope anything I said helps. I have Low Cortisol but the symptoms are alot alike. Keep me updated please.. God Bless"

05/31/2011: G. J from Dumfries, Va: "Does Ted have a remedy/cure for edema? I have suffered for 5 yrs. Both hands, wrists, ankles and feet are filled w/ fluid (non-pitting). Elevation helps for the time being, but I have a desk job, which makes matters worse. I consume the least amt of salt/sodium possible. Dr. 's cannot find the cause of it. Sometimes Vit-B helps, sometimes lasix(I don't like taking) helps, sometimes herbal tea (parsley) helps, but everything I've tried is so temporary. I know it's a lifelong fight, but would like to know if there's anything other than the above.
I cannot wear my shoes, and at times the fluid can get so bad that it travels up my thighs.

If you can do this 2ice a day until you are healed. At some stage blood may come out of your anus, do not panick it is a sign that your tumour is exposed & you are healing. I have seriously decreased my salt intake. I also believe my legs and arms are edemetous. Is there anyone who can help, this is annoying and embarrassing.
BTW, my thyroid has been checked and was normal."
Replies01/16/2011: Brooke from Montgomery, Tx, Usa replies: "Edema is usually caused by not having proper eliminations. Get on a good laxative - preferably with Fletchers Castoria (because of it being natural) - but any will do. At least one time a week give yourself a high enema - this is to help your colon clear out so that the toxins will not be reabsorbed into your system. You need to thoroughly masticate your food before swallowing it - that will help you with your digestion. After every meal you eat take a digestion enzyme. That will help your stomach with digestion also.Another remedy that I tried to get my client to do - which he did not do - was to get the seeded purple grapes and crush them and apply this over the abdomen. Keep this on until the grapes have been well heated by your body. What you are trying to do with the grapes is get all the juices into your abdomen area - it is called a Grape Poultice and done in the exact same way as a Castor Oil pack - you can look that up on the Earth Clinic site.
Also you need to watch your diet. If you have a sweet tooth, then cut out all sugar and just have a little bit of honey when you are craving sugar. And when you drink milk, put the malted milk into it. I did this and it changed a lot for me. I put malted milk into my Almond milk and it tastes great!! A lot of people can't digest milk properly, and the malted milk helps your stomach to digest it better. The diet should be more towards a South Beach diet or the Atkins diet.
I hope this helps you - I have suffered from this off an on and every time I get back on this was of eating and digesting I get better! I also rub my legs with peanut oil and olive oil 50/50 mixture - but I have been doing this for arthritis prevention for 20 years. So you can add that also -it sure won't hurt! A lot of times we are not properly combining our foods - that tends to lead to all the problems with edema among a lot of other problems as well. Here is a link for a good chart -www.docstoc.com/docs/41385573/Food-Combining-Chart
Hope this helps you as it has helped me!"

10/05/2010: Luvmydaddy from Dallas, Oregon, Usa: "stage 4 colon cancer and now swollen legs
Oh please help me. My Father is in critical care. Just a couple days ago he got massive swelling in the right leg and now the right ankle and foot is beginning to swell too. This took away so much of his independence. His leg is huge and he cannot even pick it up himself. He was taken off his cumudin (blood thinner) because he began to bleed from the rectum do to the large tumor (10cm). He lost so much blood that now he undergoes blood transfusions. So they placed a filter as to not have any clots travel up to the lungs or anything. Deep inside he is strong willed and it breaks my heart to see him like this. His tumor is painful. Since he probably has lost his appetite, organic green drinks are probably best to get some nutrition into him. I would add to these AHCC (a mushroom complex developed in Japan and widely used in clinics). And a broad spectrum mushroom complex like "Host Defense". Vitamin D. 2000 . Astragalus, and Milk Thistle. His liver is most likely compromised. (the leg swelling). And please look into Low Dose Naltrexone. 4. 5 mg. Taken before bed will boost endorphins in turn boosting immunity... The testimonials and evidence are impressive... Here are some links...

There are astounding numbers and varieties of holistic and natural therapies out there for cancer (over 600), and obviously you don't have time to try more than 1 or 2 and hope to get results.
Here's just one partial list from one site:
http://www.mnwelldir.org/docs/cancer1/altthrpy2.htm#Essiac Formula
Since it sounds like your dad can't travel, this narrows down the possibilities to local remedies, either off the shelf directly or perhaps through a local naturopath. For something with a proven track record of 80 years, the Essiac Tea would be a good choice. It's on the page of the URL above, down a ways. But it has no detail, so I'll provide some for you. First, to scribd. com, where the reading is free (you can download and save a document only if you set up an account there):
35 page short summary of essiac, with home recipe PAGE 8!http://www.scribd.com/doc/7793094/The-Truth-About-Essiac
AND
Detailed 300 page book, 1988, on detailed story of essiac. NOTE Page 3 of book, paragraph about what Rene Casse herself said about the Essiac blend! http://www.scribd.com/doc/4442071/Calling-of-an-Angel-Plus-More-Info
Here is how the potent sheep sorrel supposedly works against the tumor:
http://www.healthfreedom.info/Essiac tea & cancerous tumors.htm
What does a dry package or bottle look like in the store? Here's the pictures:
DRY HERB mixture, MAKE AT HOME, MAKES 72 oz= 2 liters:
http://www.teaessiac.com/images/essiac herbal.jpg
PRE-MIXED/BREWED IN BOTTLE:
http://romwell.com/health/img/essiac.jpg
PRICE appears to be around $35 for either the bottle or the dry herbal mix box. But the bottle is only 10. 5 oz! Availability is good on the Net in USA, and may even be stocked in a local health food store. According to several sites, there was/is a conflict between "recipes" from Rene Casse, RN, and only the ESSIAC name has kept true, but not the FLOR-ESSENCE brand
http://comboweb.com/essiac/james.htm
So I've given you only the ESSIAC TEA pictures and prices. DOSAGE: 2-4 oz dose, twice daily.
So, using the high dose and making it at home, that $35 dry mix will last 9 days, or $4/day.
Remember to note that sorrel link there about the possibility that your dad could temporarily get massive tumor poisons in his system after several days of Essiac, a healing crisis, and that means to stop for a few days till the kidneys and liver catch up! Just please pick something else quickly out of that cancer site list if you don't think much of this!"

[QUESTION] 07/28/2009: David from Brisbane, Australia: "pulmonary edema: My 73year old neighbour has a constant build up of "fluids in the lungs", she doesn't know what her condition is actually, not sure if her doctor cared enough to explain to her clearly! She has extreme difficult breathing now and is generally on a home respiratory machine. She lives alone and has no care taker. From what I've read she might have Pulmonary Edema, fluid blocking the air-sacs within her lungs. Every month she has to go to the hospital to have the fluid drained, from what I've read pulmonary edema is often linked too heart problems but she has never had any heart trouble and eats a fairly healthy diet so I'm a bit confused to what caused this. What is her likely condition? What needs to be done for her to recover?"
Replies07/29/2009: Tavora from Brooklyn, NY replies: "Hi - if your neighbor's edema is possibly related to her heart - capsicum/cayenne is always an effective means to strengthen the heart. I found this very interesting article about pulmonary edema from the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMM). They recommend both conventional and alternative therapies. Granted - she should speak w/ her doctor but I would pay special attention to the natural remedies. I will keep her in my prayers....she is lucky to have a concerned neighbor like you.
