10/30/2008: Princess78 from Crystal River, Florida writes: "I believe I have either Perioral Dermatitis or Contact Dermatitis it comes and goes for over a year now I want to try the Apple Cider Vinegar but no where does it say how much to put on my face do I mix it with anything? I don't wear make-up & wash my face with soap only I really want this to go away and can't afford a dermatologist right now. Can anyone tell me how much to put on my face do I mix the ACV with anything? I did put some on my face which made my face redder and burning not sure if that's a good sign or what lol. I don't have it bad kind of looks as if I have sunburn on my face I don't have pus bumps like many others talk about last year it started on my chin but now this time I have it on my chin my cheeks forehead and around my eyes. Please someone help me out with this thanks"

11/02/2008: Jessica from Duluth, MN replies: "To Princess78 re: perioral dermatitis...dip a cotton ball in ACV and swab it straight on your face twice per day. It will get red for several minutes after and may burn a bit, but that will go away. In addition you should drink two tablespoons of ACV in water or other beverage twice per day. You should see results in 1 to 6 weeks."

11/21/2008: Jenna from Philadelphia, PA replies: "I use the cotton ball to apply straight ACV on the affected areas. The first time it did sting for 10-20 seconds. But 50x less painful than having a bikini wax LOL I kept my blow dryer handy on cool to dry off my face after i applied the ACV. It was red for a few minutes then toned down dramatically. That night it did not sting as bad and the next day it did not sting at all. I am still uneasy about drinking it yet. I will have to read more about it."

[NAY]  10/30/2008: Maria from San Francisco, California writes: "After the dermatitis cleared up the ACV seemed to make it worse. I gave up all the doctor's medication and I also stopped all the self treatment because I was lookin really bad and it hurt by this point. After a lot of thinking I decided to find a really good dermatologist and see what happens. I did find a really well known doctor and the day I saw him I gave him a little resumee of my condition and symptoms for the last 6 yers. After taking a sample to the lab he said that it is actually an ATOPIC DERMATITIS meaning ECZEMA. He also said he found a type of bacteria that usualy lives on the human body anyway but it was more concentrated where my iritation and lesions were. He gave me low dose cortison creams and he said that in order to have a normal life I would have to use this as minimal as I can for a long time. He also said that for some people it goes away on it's own and for others it never cures. So I decided to have a normal life without living in a glass globe. I am better now then I was on the natural self treatment. I even did a liver cleanse and a Candida cleanse but no change. Now I am using the steroids and I have started to use make up again. I feel ok and if I put the creams on when I feel an out break I have no issues. My advice is that you must really find out what kind of condition you relly have without guessing on your own. If none of the natural treatments work do not give up and find a good doctor. I have not heard of people dieing because of some medicated creams. I was more stressed when I was trying to buy all the organic natural miracle cures. I am convinced that the natural plants have many good healthy uses and I am still buying some of them. I still use organic creams and cosmetics. Now that I have my eczema under controll I am not stressed out anymore. I hope my feed back helps. I think this site is extremly helpfull for many people. I will continue reading all the testemonies."

[YEA]  10/24/2008: Nan from Atlanta, GA writes: "ACV cured my dermatitis and is also healing my rosacea!

I'm amazed at how amazing this $6 bottle of organic acv is. I would have never believed it if I hadn't experienced it for myself. I've had rosacea now since May which was a result of a major stress factor in my life. I've been to the dermatalogist and have spent over a hundred dollars in topical creams and pills that just did not work. I then learned that the creams I was given for the rosacea was causing dermatitis so I was again given another cream to try and combat the dermatitis to no avail.

When the dermatologist failed to help me, I went to an esthetician. She put me on supplements stating that it was more likely an internal digestive problem. This actually made it worse. Whereas before the supplements I had the rosacea & dermatitis only on my cheeks, after taking the supplements it immediately spread to my whole face which freaked me out.

I then did a google and somehow found th Earth Clinic website with remedies and saw a few testimonials concerning dermatitis. I thought to myself, I'm desperate and what harm can it do in trying (as I've done about everything else short of doing laser treatments)to try and take care of this. I was even going out without makeup as the dermatitis caused my make up to look cakey and blothcy. On my way home from work on October 17th I stopped at a nutrition store and bought my $6 bottle of ACV. I washed my face and applied the ACV directly to my face with a cotton ball. Saturday it started looking better. I've applied it in the morning and at night after washing my face and follow with my moisturizer and a week later the dermatitis is completely gone and so is most of the rosacea. I also put 2 TBS in a 16 oz bottle of water each day.

I am now a firm believer in ACV!!"

10/29/2008: Susan from NY replies: "I'm a first timer here but this question is to Nan hopefully I'm doing this right....

I have Perioral Dermatitis which first started about 7-years ago. My chin broke out in these huge lumps and they hurt and itched like crazy. They lasted about three months and then just disappeared. Two years later I started my first job in a very dirty factory and the bumps came back smaller and in a very exact rash pattern. After about a month it felt like someone had punched me in the face it hurt so bad. I couldn't sleep at night from the throbbing. So instead of sleeping, I spent hours online trying to figure out what it could be and finally I found pictures of PD and I instantly knew. I immediately switched to all natural products, everything. It went away for about a month. I just recently moved and it is back and worse. This time it's on my chin, up to my nose and spreading to my cheeks. I have been on lockdown since I look like a mutant.

I found this page last night and thought I have to get some ACV, however that requires leaving the house! Well I have it now! I just applied it for the first time a few moments ago, so far no itching which is a relief. I will update in a few weeks as to whether it worked for me.

Hmmmm...ok I see that you can't ask about product recommendations. So I'll ask do you think it's too much to use face wash, toner and moisturizer? I'm concerned about using too many products at once. I was also curious as to whether anyone here uses fluoride? I don't use any SLS, but I have been reading mixed reactions to fluoride. Another thing that I have noticed is that (I have been reading a lot of different boards online) PD sufferers seem to have sinus problems. Which I find coincidental because I have serious sinus problems, which started around the same time as the PD. Does anyone else here have sinus issues? If anyone else wants to answer these questions that would be lovely, I appreciate anyone's input."

11/03/2008: Marian from New York, NY replies: "Hey Nan & Susan, I have had perioral dermatitis for a month now - it started right after I had the first of a 6 series gycolic acid peel at my dermatologist's. The line of the rash is the nasolabial fold from nose to mouth. The doctor said that there is no connection to the peel but I think there is. I have had other peels previously but never had a reaction like this! I bought the ACV yesterday -it burns, but I will keep trying it for at least a week. After the ACV I use either Psoriflora Homeopathic ointment or Aloe Vera gel. Any more suggestions? Should I try plain yogurt on my face too? Regular or Nonfat?
Thanks!"

11/17/2008: Nan from Atlanta, GA replies: "Susan- I am not using my normal moisturizer or toner. The esthetician recommended and sold me a cleanser and a moisturizer which seems to be helping as well as the ACV. She did recommend a sunblock moisturizer which actually seemed to make it worse so I'm not using the sunblock. The moisturizer is a Neova product. I am also using a perfect finish toner from Neova that you spray on your face before the moisturizer to give added hydration. I spray this on throughout the day if I feel my face is getting dry."

11/26/2008: Susan from From New York, to Virginia replies: "Marian: Sorry for the delay in response. I just now came back to this site. I honestly believe that PD is a result of using harsh face products over the years. I had always been a product whore, you name it I've tried it. I had spent so much money buying and trying products not because I needed them at the time but because I loved trying new things that were on the market. At one time I actually got paid to try products and give my opinion. Now that's not me, my face can't handle it.

Keep in mind that everyone's skin is different even the one's with PD. My skin can't handle any SLS whether it's a shampoo or hand wash, it doesn't matter I can't use it. I'll tell you what I use but that doesn't mean it will work best for you. It took me 7-years to figure out what works for me. I use Dr. Bronner's Baby Mild Liquid Soap to wash my face with. I can't use toners because I have an adverse reaction. I use California Baby Calendula Cream on my face; you can use it all over it will not irritate the skin. On occasion if my PD is a little dry I use Karite Gold Shea Butter for PD, a little goes a long way, one tub will last two years (keep that in mind- good for dry skin). Balmex Diaper Cream is also nice on PD.

Apple Cider Vinegar organic undistilled works best for me because I have a lot of natural oils in my face, and ACV is more drying then the other options. I never put it on in excess or rub the skin vigorously. ACV is natural however it does have side effects. If it burns on your skin you should water it down. Anytime the skin is burning it's telling you it's too much. I only put it on in the morning and at night just a dab with a q-tip. If you plan on ingesting it remember there are side effects. ACV is known to wear enamel off of teeth and if ingested on a regular basis it is known to cause esophagus problems. I only ingest it if I'm having a serious outbreak of PD, one tabl. with apple juice and honey. Don't chug it, drink slowly, and use a straw to keep it off the teeth. Never sacrifice your overall health for your skin, be smart and don't let PD run your life!

If you have any questions let me know I will try and come back here regularly. In regards to yogurt and the other things you mentioned I have never used them so I can't give you an opinion. I can say that I know some people who use grapefruit seed extract (5-drops in water as well as on the face morning and night) and it has worked for them.

I just moved from NY if I was still there we could talk about this over tea :) Anyways Best of luck!"

07/29/2009: Jonna from Stuart, FL replies: "While reading comments, I came across a potential irritant. A few people have written that they can't use SLS, and I'm wondering what they are referring to."

EC: SLS = Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (an ingredient found in most shampoos, soaps, and toothpastes).

09/14/2009: Shaz from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia replies: "To Susan from NY- I suffer from POD and from sinus problems so I was very interested to hear that their may be a link between the two problems. I am going to try the ACV on my face first and then see if I can bear to drink it and see if it helps with the sinus problems too."

10/18/2008: Elijah from Bay Shore, US writes: "Hi my name is Elijah and I have a question. I have dermatitis in my left hand for eleven years now. I have the apple cider vinegar for a different problem I am having with my appearance. My question is how do I apply it to my hand for best result, and being that I have had this disease this long can I expect to see results."

10/19/2008: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "To Elijah from Bay Shore: Hello Elijah, I just use my apple cider straight from the bottle for problems like this. Just sop a washcloth with it and make sure you get it all over the hand at least 3 or 4 times a day. If you don't notice a difference after a week or so you might add using it after every handwashing, as this washes the vinegar off each time. I would just let that hand air dry instead of wiping dry after applying the apple cider vinegar. You didn't mention whether this is a "weepy" rash or a dry one. If dry, use the vinegar alone. If it is a weepy rash you might want to make a saturated solution of vinegar and epsom salts. Apply this with a cotton ball several times a day and let it dry on the hand. It works well on weepy rashes."

10/23/2008: Elijah from Bay Shore, US replies: "To Joyce: I have a dry rash. I see what u said I should do. I will let you know how it works out for me."

[YEA]  10/14/2008: J from New York writes: "I am so grateful for this site. I was experiencing perioral dermatitis after taking antibiotics for a UTI two months ago. I tried what feels like everything to get rid of it-reducing sugars and alcohol, washing linens in hot water, sunlight, etc.

For the past five days I have been taking ACV, coconut oil and balmex topically and internally (ACV and Coconut 1 TBSP daily). I was ready to give up on ACV as my dermatitis got WORSE before it got better (Herx reaction?), but after 3-4 days of taking ACV my face looked much better. My theory is that the antibiotics created an acidic environment thus causing dermatitis/yeast to grow on my face. (Plus, I'm a sugar addict.) Other ailments have cleared up already too, such as a sinus infection and bladder irregularities.

I am so relieved and grateful...thank you to all who have written as your advice and testimonials have ultimately brought my smile back :)"

10/14/2008: Christine from Clearwater, Florida replies: "Thank you so much for your post! I am experiencing the same thing - I am on my second day of taking ACV and wasn't sure if I was getting worse or not (my face is kind of red, but at least it's scabbing and not oozing - so I figured that this was an "improvement").

This is reassuring and I'll keep on it! I found that the coconut oil made the symptoms a bit worse (more red and irritated), but I never thought about ingesting it. I can give that a shot too :)

Thanks again!"

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  10/13/2008: Christine from clearwater, florida writes: "Please help! If you want to skip the entire story, please just scroll to the bottom 5 or so paragraphs. However, if you can help, please do read the whole story.

I think I have had something fungal going on with my body for some time. All throughout my pregnancy (5 years ago), I had a few yeast infections all handled with acidopholis. My son was born with "cradle cap". He is 4 and still has it (I think it's fungal = sebboreac dermatitis)

I currently have very bad dermatitis on my hands and face. It started about 3 years ago in between my fingers - lightly red and inflamed on a few fingers. Never having taken a drug in my life (including natural births), I saw a nutritionist.

He is one of the new who knows how to PROPERLY muscle test, and can test the supplement for your body and the correct dosage. He handled many problems for me (including major back spasms preventing me from operating at all). He handled liver cancer on my father, I've witnessed him handling autistic kids - I can sum it up to say for the most part he knows what he's doing!

On the hands, he found that it was a parasite. Throughout the last few years, he's also found a fungus as well. Most recently he found a virus in the liver (which makes sense as liver dysfunction can cause skin problems) I have drastically changed my diet and eliminated ALL sugar over the past 3 months. I went strictly organic 3 years ago.

Despite doing his protocol, it would ebb and flow - each outbreak steadily getting worse and spreading onto my knuckles and front of hands.

After a year the redness then changed to red and small little pustules. (little clear "puss pockets" on my fingers and eventually moving into the palms of my hands). I am super hygienic - wash my hands about 8 times a day with mild natural hand soap - doesn't make sense.

Frustrated, I went and got topical fungal cream. It vanished after a few days - only to come back when I went off the cream.

Last year I had it licked for several months when I went onto NO sugar (no bread, legumes, honey, juice, etc.)... Then it came back after about 3 months.

Now three years later I've had all of my body products tested on me - I use 100% natural soap, shampoos, toothpaste, makeup, etc. I clean my house only with vinegar and peroxide. I eat like a hippie - it doesn't make sense!

3 months ago I went to a "natural spring" in Florida, The next day my entire tummy was broken out in hives. It spread up my chest, onto the neck and on the hands.

I decided to skip the nutritionist as I'd been struggling for three years. I went to a dermatologist who told me it was an allergy to whole food supplements! I didn't buy this, but decided to take the steroid and antihistamine.

I took both twice. I felt terrible and the condition got worse! I went back and the Doctor the next day who then told me to keep it up for two weeks as it could take that long !!!!!

Regretting taking the drugs I went to my nutritionist who handled it within a day - EXCEPT the hands (my struggle).

I then started soaking my hands in salt water. I'd do this about an hour a day. This would clear them up and instantly take away the itch (didn't hurt surprisingly) and chilled them out.

At the end of September it was my son's 4th birthday. I cheated on my no sugar and had a piece of cake (not all natural, organic and sugar free).

The next morning I wooke up and it broke out on my face!!!!!! Within a day of the breakout my chin was orange from the oozing. YUK. I can't go to work looking like this... I work in the financial industry!

I went to my nutritionist who couldn't handle it.

My hands were also worse than before - I could NOT stop from itching. I bought cortisone cream, tar, psoriasis cream, etc. and loaded it all on my hands. NOTHING stopped this terrible itch. The knuckles looked like I got into a fist fight and were bleeding and swollen. My fingers almost twice their size. The salt water was also not helping.

By the way, each breakout has been worse than previous - especially since these terrible drugs! I researched the drugs (prednisone, xyzol and another topical steroid) Turns out a side effect of these medical drugs is breaking out WORSE than before once you're off the drug!!!

The nutrition was ALSO not working and now I had an orange chin and bloody knuckles.

I finally broke down and went back to the MD again (I saw a different one). He said it was a staph infection (hands) and impetigo (face). I could think with this. I took the anti-biotic which totally cleared the skin. This made sense to me - nutrition not working with such a massive infection misdiagnosed for months.

I thought an anti-biotic is OK - I've never had a side effect from the 3-4 times I've taken them (no condition I've had ever came back).

Now I've been off a week. Within a day I could feel the skin heating up under the lips. The itch started the next day, along with chin getting red and the lips also have little bumps around the base. I also have white heads around my nose, which is slightly red.

I spoke to the MD, who wants to put me on more drugs. I truly don't think this is a solution - seeing the "side effects"!!!!

I took a BUNCH of oregano oil (3 days ago). The condition has continued to worsen.

Remember, I drink more than 1/2 my body weight in spring water a day and I ONLY eat organic veggies and chicken (I even clean and steam veggies in bottled spring water). No sugar of any kind (bread, fruit, refined, dairy, etc.) I don't even put dressing on my salad. The ONLY stray from this is one cup of coffee per day. This is definitely not some allergy from a crap diet or chemicals in my environment.

I found this site - T H A N K Y O U!!! I've been taking apple cider vinegar internally and externally since yesterday. The chin is definitely drying up but still quite red. It started bleeding today (I think it was so dry, that when I moved my mouth, it cracked a scab)

HOWEVER, the hands don't seem to be changing. The knuckles are redder today (with white flaky skin on top - I assume this is eczema) and continuing to get chubbier and spreading.

I've also been drinking water with 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda with lemon juice and two teaspoons of ACV. I've put the ACV on my face and hands three times a day.

The redness is not yet going away on the face, but it's crusting up (yuk - sorry if this is gross).

Last night I put yogurt on my face and hands (the thick Greek yogurt) and taken a bunch of acidopholis. The yogurt seems to draw some of the gunk out as a "white head" formed after I rinsed it off.

I considered the oil gargle - but am worried I'll detox too fast and the skin will get worse than it is now.

I am going to start with coconut oil tonight and see if that helps on the hands.

I need to know from other people out there - does it sound like I'm improving?? Anyone else go through these symptoms before (or as part of) healing??? My main concern is whether or not I am healing.

Any suggestions? Please help! I am 29 and refuse to let this spread on my body! I plan on it being gone :)

Thank you so much,
Christine

[YEA]  10/07/2008: Cali from Sioux Falls, SD writes: "Apple Cider Vinegar cured my Perioral Dermatitis. I had just developed the dermititis randomly, (no steriods or creams taken previously) and my Dr gave me a cream prescription. Before trying that I found this site and gave the ACV a try. I few days later it was gone. I now apply it topically daily with a cotton ball to my entire face. I am noticing a difference in my face all over! I think I am now going to start taking it internally as well."

09/13/2008: Michael from Red Oak, Iowa writes: "Well. I have had slowly worsening contact dermatitis & seborrhea on my face and scalp for 20 years. I have been using corizone lotion and cream to control it poorly for the last 6 years. I am not a health food freak, but I somehow found this site and decided, "What the hell!" I bought a bottle of Raw Apple Cider Vinegar and put it on my scalp and face for going on two weeks now. The scalp has gone from maybe 15 patches on my scalp to one, and the dozen or so patches which alternate on my face have just finished cycling out completely. So far so good. I am utterly amazed and hope that it continues to work. I don't think it is placebo because I've tried many things which were supposed to help which never did. Also, the quality of the commentaries on this remedy was very good, which helped a lot.

Also, I took a tablespoon in vegetable juice twice daily and within two days my appetite diminished by probably 50%, if not more. It was the damnest thing. I just didn't feel like eating, but otherwise felt fine maybe better. I ran low on vinegar and am waiting for supermarket to restock and have stopped ingesting ACV for perhaps 6 days now and my appetite has returned. I have had oral surgery during the last week, so perhaps the tooth infection may have influenced my appetite. But I hope the appetite supression returns when I get more vinegar. If it does I will regard all of this as a freaking miracle. At this point I would say to anyone, "Try it. What do you have to lose?""

12/12/2008: Michael McMath from Red Oak, Iowa replies: "Apple Cider Vinegar has cured my dermatitis/sebhorea by 95%. I posted in Sept., 08 about cider vinegar alleviating my dermatitis on scalp and face.

Now in December, 08 I have dermatitis of scalp alleviated by 95%. That on my face is somewhat different. After a month or so, I began to get rapidly cyling minor patches on my face even though I am applying to face every day--several times. The patches would generally show up as dry rough spots which would flake if you gently scratched them. I would remove flakes then apply vinegar, which would show red and generally alleviate in 2-3 days. Now I seem to have fewer patches lasting shorter time and healing faster. I wish it would go away completely, but this is so much better than before. I just hope it doesn't stop working at some point.

I haven't been using the organic raw vinegar because it wasnpt available for some time, and have only been applying the regular cider vinegar to skin. I got a bottle of raw vinegar two days ago and have started to take a couple of tablespoons in V-8 juice and hope this helps and maybe will also reduce appetite as it did before. The V-8 is a very good vehicle as it just seems to be more tangy with vinegar. I just couldn't take vinegar in water and not at all unpalatable. I don't know if using raw organic vinegar has any virtue at all. I am sort of conditioned to thinkl that it should because it is, well, ORGANIC. The Del Monte Cider Vinegar seems to work as well on my face and scalp as the raw. Perhaps just plain white vinegar would do the job. Really,I imagine the acetic acid is the active ingredient. Has anyone out there tried white vinegar?

I know of two fellows who work in stores I frequent who have bad dermatitis of face and scalp. I really want to tell them about this, but haven't had the nerve to do it. I guess I will screw up the courage and tell them as I wish that if anybody who had seen me knew about this that they would have told me and spared me years of embarassment, frustration, and misery."

[YEA]  02/23/2009: Michael from Red Oak, Iowa replies: "This is my third posting about using apple cider vinegar since September, 08. Pretty right off the bat my dermatitis got 95% better. Then I went through around 3 months where patches cylced in and out on my face and scalp, but continuing to diminish. Now, I would have to say that my improvement has reached 98%. It's not perfect, but very, very good. I am so grateful for the people who run this site as well as for the fine people who contribute. This is an extremely well vetted site, with intelligent and respectful input. None of the hysterical, profane, tell-you-a-miracle-for-a-fee shysterism. Thank you again. This is internet as it is supposed to be.

FYI, I use ZNP Bar (zinc pyrithione soap bar) from Steiffel Laboratories as shampoo and face cleanser. It does a really good job of loosening and removing patches of dry skin. I then apply apple cider vinegar generously to my scalp and then blow-dry my hair. I follow this with facial application of vinegar. I quit using organic vinegar because it was just hard to get and have been using regular good quality Del Monte Apple Cider Vinegar. It seems to work at least as good as the raw organic vinegar, if not better, plus it doesn't have the raw ingredients which seem to smell more and coat my hair with gunk. My hair is silky and shiny, looks healthy, which is all to the better. A lot of gain for little cost and effort.

I think I would avoid using store brands of cider vinegar because they say that they are made of "distilled vinegar with cider flavoring"--which seems to indicate to me that it is not actually Apple Cider Vinegar per se. There is not much of a difference in price for name brand which state "contains apple cider vinegar." The raw organic vinegar costs considerably more, although nothing compared to the various and sundry bogus salves, unguents, lotions, and cortisone, steroids which I used in the past. I would not be surprised to find out that it is the acetic acid in the vinegar which is the helpful element, and not the apple cider, but I haven't been brave enough to switch to white vinegar yet. If anyone has, I would be pleased to hear about it. Thank you."

[YEA]  09/13/2008: Teresa from London, London writes: "I had to write and leave feedback as another testimonial that ACV is a miracle cure. I have suffered with Dermatitis/ Rosacea (the doctors couldn't decide what it was) on my forehead for 6 years. I used steroid creams for years that controlled it but never cured it but even they stopped having an effect in the last year or so. I saw ACV testemonials on this website so I tried it. Within a day or 2 the ACV I applied had stopped the spots appearing, the the redness and swelling went down. I use it every night and i'm now free of all symptoms - it only took about a week to cure it all together! It's so so frustrating that doctors don't/ can't tell you about these things. Thank you so much to this website - It's changing a lot of people's lives."

[YEA]  09/10/2008: Megan from Northern, MN writes: "I tried the apple cider vinegar for my Peri-oral dermatitis and I was shocked that it actually worked. I have had this on and off for the last ten years and have done the high potent antibiotics only to have it come back. Usually it would wipe out the good bacteria too and I would end up sicker than with just facial blemishes. I cautiously used the glass bottle of apple cider vinegar at the grocery store (we dont have a organic co-op really close) and just thought I would give it a try. The key was to BE PERSISTANT and STEADY with treating it. I was a litle discouraged after not seeing immediate results like some others did, but kept with it and now 6 days later my face is clearing up and my husband can barely tell I have ever had dermatitis. I am sooo pleased and am wondering if the organic version is probably what cured it faster for others. I also was beside myself with looking for a homeopathic cure because of being 8 months pregnant I could not go on my normal "regime" of antibiotics. I will never try those antibiotics again!! I am so thankful for this website of GOOD information and pleased to share it with my family and friends. All I did was use it twice a day with dipping a q-tip in the ACV and dabbing it on my face. It BURNED like crazy but I knew that something had to be working then. I did that twice a day (a few times i did it more) and the flakes I could peel off. I peeled a little too much and have a litle scab but I have found using a little lotion about 5 or ten minutes after applying it have helped with the dryness of the skin around the dermatitis. [YEA]  08/23/2008: Jessica from Duluth, MN writes: "Hooray for ACV! After suffering with perioral dermatitis for months without relief, I am finally cured. I had planned to see the dermatologist but the wait was two months, so in the meantime I did some research and stumbled across this website. After reading all the comments posted here, I decided to give ACV a try. I took 2T. daily with grapefruit juice (couldn't stand it with water) and also swabbed it on my face with a cotton ball twice daily. It burned at first but after several days that subsided. I went through several more flare ups over the next six weeks, but each subsequent flare up was smaller until finally it just seemed to cycle out of my system. I have now been free of the dermatitis for a week and couldn't be happier. THANK YOU so much for the awesome, cheap and easy cure! Now I can avoid a $45 copay at the doctor's office and months of antibiotics! Awesome!!!"

[YEA]  07/12/2008: JG from Los Angeles, California writes: "Dermatitis herpetiformis & ACV: i was struck by repeated bouts of what a dermatologist diagnosed as herpes zoster or shingles. went through a valtrex treatments each time the rashes appeared on my arms and legs. slowly emerging and very itchy bumps that would, over two weeks, become clear liquid-filled bumps. i suspected it had to do with infected scratches from dog toenails, as i was working with rescue dogs. lo and behold, it was - and my sister, a doctor across the country, had suspected dermatitis hep the whole time. it was much later that i stumbled upon ACV as an excellent cure that speeds up the cycle of the rash. i soak a gauze square with it and tape it to the affected area changing it in the morning and at night. such a relief to have a non-med cure! also, i have found that if i wash the scratched area immediately with anti-bacterial soap, it can prevent the rashes.:)"

09/13/2008: Rho from Seattle, WA replies: "You can use glycerin which is cheap at the drug store. Mix with water 50% each. Apply thinly to face/neck as too much will make it feel sticky. Also I tried using Tom's of Maine Mint toothpaste, no fluoride. Cinnamon may cause flare ups or moisturizers for dry skin can actually make it worse. My 'expensive' department store moisturizer I just bought caused my last flare up. I am going back to the cheap stuff."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  05/15/2008: Joanna from Colorado Springs, Colorado writes: "My mom has had a bad rash on her face. Also, her skin is dry (not to the touch), but it is flakey and feels dry to her. At any rate, I found your website, and she tried Apple Cider Vinegar, and it is clearing up the bad rash. We are assuming it is dermatitis. No doctors have called "it" a name, and every cream they had her try just dried her face and more and usually did not clear up the red at all. So, the ACV is clearing up the red rash just fine but is not helping to make the skin less flakey. Every time it feels dry and tight, she is applying moisturizer from a good skin brand. She also does this as normal in the mornings and evenings. Any suggestions to help the dryness? Thank you!"

05/29/2008: Sandy from Tampa, FL replies: "Hi, I think most people do experience dryness from apple cider vinegar and I use coconut oil for that. Also there are some good homeopathic creams- I also use a borage cream that helps to renew the skin cells instead of just covering up the dryness. Hope this helps!"

[YEA]  05/04/2008: Franny from Chicago, IL writes: "Apple Cider Vinegar helped my seborrheic dermatitis. Over six months ago I developed seborrheic dermatitis under my nostrils and the sides of my nose. The dermatologist prescribed a steroid cream which did not help and which lots of people have advised not to use long term. After finding this site I tried the ACV. I apply it on the affected area once a day with a cotton ball. After doing this a few days the scales dried up and I was able to pick them right off. But what I think has really helped is drinking the ACV. I drink it with boiling water and honey. About 2 tablespoons ACV. I use the boiling/hot water because the honey doesn't dissolve in cold water. And I drink it with a straw so it doesn't ruin my tooth enamel. The affected area is soft and smooth now!! It's still a bit red but the scales are gone. Much easier to conceal. I still drink and apply the ACV almost every day.

Thanks to this site for a natural remedy that works!"

[YEA]  04/21/2008: Christine from Pasadena, CA writes: "I am just so delighted and amazed and I hope to have continued improvement. When I was sixteen I had PD and was put on prednisone and given the allergy tests. For months I had this embarrassing rash around my nose and mouth. At 43 I again started to get this rash that has not gone away despite all the normal medical recomendations. My life is very stressful and skin inflammation is one of the results of that. Praise God, because after putting the organic apple cider vinegar on my rash, it is starting to dissapear after 7 hours. I have spent so much money and time trying to get rid of this as it is such an awful rash. At first, it got itchy and red, but it is starting to feel better and I did not expect that the first day. Mine was an oozing, spreading rash that was starting to travel to my chin. I did the steroid route last time I had this, yes it helped short term, but perhaps that is why it came back 20 years later.

Thank you so much for helping me, all you friends you have suffered from PD. I will keep you informed about how this continues. Blessings, Chris"

[NAY]  05/20/2008: Christine from Pasadena, CA replies: "Dermatitis and Apple Cider Vinegar: Hi, just report back after about a month since I tried ACV. Unfortunatly, after a week or so the rash began to return, and as I foolishly spent a day in the sun, it was quite red and the bumps were coming back. I tried a homeopathic cream from Walgreens called Prosacea; and after three weeks I am nearly healed.I was worried that my skin would become resistant to this product the way it did to ACV.Immediatly after applying the cream, the redness and itch began to cease. Blessings, Christine."

[YEA]  03/24/2008: Jevon from Houston, TX writes: "I have been dealing with perioral dermatitis for the past 6 months. About 4 years ago I started to get patches of eczema on my face and the doctor prescribed me with a lotion which is a steroid. As a result of using this lotion frequently for 4 years my face got addicted. Once I stopped using the lotion my face resulted with perioral dermatitis. I have been to the doctor and they have prescribed me with bacterial lotions, non-steriod creams and a face wash. The products seem to calm my face down but the perioral dermatitis still remains. After months of walking around with pealing, red, embarrassing bumpy skin around my mouth and chin area I finally decided to do my own research and I came across this sight. I have tried the Apple Cider Vinegar and must say I am extremely happy! After one night of using ACV I saw a difference. One week later my face is practically free of perioral dermatitis. ACV definitely worked for me. Thank you all so much for your advice!"

01/18/2009: Monica from Atlanta, GA replies: "My POD has gotten better by not using liquid makeup. Liquid makeup contains isopropyl myristate. Stay away from it. Use mineral makeup. It gives better coverage and does not make you breakout. Stop using a foaming cleanser. Cleansers, hand soaps etc with Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (its what creates the suds) makes POD worse. Try using cleansers that claim that are milk cleansers. They don't create suds and they calm your skin. Stop using toothpaste that has high amounts of flouride. Switch to dry mouth toothpaste. Make sure when you wash your hair that NONE of the shampoo suds get on your face. Remember SUDS are bad. Only use ACV if it is organic. The regular stuff will inflame your skin especially if you have been put on an anitbiotic."

[YEA]  03/11/2008: June from Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin USA writes: "Hello Friends! I have used your site many times to look up remedies for common ailments, thank you for being here! Over the past 6 months, a rash has come and gone. It started after a nasty sinus infection and was limited to the areas just under my nostrils. I figured it was due to the sinus infection, but once the infection went away, the rash was still there. Then it added a few little spots at the end of my eyebrows. Slowly, it began to spread the the entire area around my nose and mouth, but not ever touching the lips. It would come and go and each time I would use a prescription steroid cream and it would seem to help a bit, but the rash keeps coming back more fierce than the last breakout. Finally, when this last flareup was so bad that I couldn't go out in public, I came here and read about ACV, have been using it topically and ingesting it, and it's working already. I have confidence that it will clear up in no time. This past weekend, my composite PH level was a shocking 6.0! My diet is 80-90% organic and I thought I was very healthy, I was surprised that I'm acidic. So HERE'S MY QUESTIONS: Is this perioral dermatitis? (I was basing the determination strictly on photos and descriptions I've found on the internet.) Is it related to my PH level? Is it possible it's the mites you write about? Will the ACV be enough? Should I add the Borax solution as well? Thanks again for being here, I refer to your website for every little thing that ails us! Keep up the great work!"

[YEA]  03/09/2008: Teresa from Statesville, NC writes: "A few months back I was having a problem with perioral dermatitis. It had been affecting the area around my mouth and chin for several months. I had spent alot of money on anything I thought might help. While doing a search for something else to try, I found this site. I read what it had to say about using Apple Cider Vinegar for this outbreak. I half-heartedly tryed it. The first night I applied some ACV with a cotton ball. The next morning I was shocked to find it was already fading. In 4 days it was gone. I applied it 2 times a day for 4 days and WOW what results. For the next week I applied it once a day. After that I have been appling it 1 or 2 times a week just to make sure it does not come back. I have been completely free of the perioral dermatitis ever since. Thank you all for sharing the ACV cure with me."

[NAY]  03/03/2008: Randi writes: "Apple Cider Vinegar I have Perioral Dermatitus around my mouth and chin. I have had it now for a few weeks and am on a prescription topical cream called Protopic that doesn't seem to be working at all. I found this site several days ago and was excited to read how many people ACV worked for. Much to my dismay, it isn't working for me at all and I am seeing my doctor tomorrow who will likely prescribe me an oral antibiotic. At this point I will use whatever works, but would prefer not to be on an oral antibiotic. I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions as to other remedies to try or maybe I was not using the ACV correctly. I was taking it orally twice a day as well as topically twice a day."

[YEA]  05/14/2008: Regina from Boulder, Colorado replies: "I, too, was diagnosed with perioral dermatitis. Mine was induced by topical steroids that I was using to clear it up, but in turn made it worse. Doctors 1st perscribed a topical anitbiotic "klaron", but it did not work by itself. Then they put me on a 30 day dose of Minocycline. After 10 days I was achy and had swollen glands, all the symptoms stopped after I quit taking the Minocycline. I went to my doctor who verified that this was a reaction to the minocycline, not a virus. I also tried taking it again after I felt better / symptons came back. After reading the information on this site, I decided to NOT take any more antibiotics and I tried the ACV. You wouldn't believe how well it is working! I take it internally 2 TBS w/ 8oz of water twice a day and I apply topically w/ a cotton ball twice a day. The dermitits hasn't looked better in months! It is drying up right before my eyes, no side effects. I swear it is because of the ACV, both inside and out. If you have the topical antibiotic cream, you could use that, too, along w/ the ACV I don't think it would hurt- but I would not go on oral anitbiotics. Give the ACV a good try - worked for me."

[YEA]  02/20/2008: Don from Missoula, Montana writes: "Here is my 2 cents. I have had an ongoing rash on my cheeks on both sides of my nose for about a year off and on. I considered spices and alcohol as culprits but even stopping both completely did not solve the problem. I read about ACV here and had nothing to lose. 3 days of topical use and my face cleared right up. That was over a month ago. (I have added spice and alcohol back with no problems) And in case you are wondering about the drinking.. it is only maybe a bottle of vino per week. Also the ACV was not the mother" but regular store bought stuff that did leave a nice burn upon application. ONE MORE USE: 2 weeks ago bringing in wood for the fire. Something on the wood left an immediate skin rash on the left inner arm where I was carrying the wood. Red, bumps, itch..... ouch! I mixed up white vinegar with baking soda and applied and the itch left, the swelling went down and the rash was gone in 2 day.. 3 days later it reappeared and I reapplied just white vinegar and it is gone. Not sure what was on the wood."

[YEA]  02/06/2008: Lisa from Charlotte , NC writes: "After finding this site during many hours of researching ways to combat perioral dermatitis naturally, I read the many testimonals that using Apple cider vinegar cures this terrible skin rash. I applied the ACV to my dermatitis and within a day it began to diminish. I am here to tell you that it works. I am also using Vitamin E oil that contains soybean and coconut oil in it as well. I have used Elidel cream (non-steriod) that helped but not like the ACV. All dermatitis is an reaction due to an allergy. I was diagnosed years ago with having several different food allergies. Wheat being one of them. I have not had any skin rash until October 2007. I am going back to the Allergist to be retested. I strongly advise that if you have dermatitis you find out exactly what is causing it so that you can avoid what triggers it. Take plenty of B-complex as well. Green Tea supplements is a great anti-oxidant and antinflamatory. One more note. After research I was stunned to find out that long term use of oral steroids for treating such illnesses as asthma can cause perioral dermatitis. I will also be asking the asthma specialist for different meds without steroids to help with my asthma. I truly hope that my findings and knowledge can be of some help to any one who suffers with dermatitis. It is a hard condition to live with. Love to all."

[YEA]  11/24/2007: Kathy from San Jose, CA writes: "I feel so fortunate to have found this site. Though my skin is usually problem free, I had contacted a really bad case of some sort of dermititis. Flaky, scaley, red patched on my cheeks, chin, in my eyebrows. My family history has eczema and psoriosis and I was freaking out that suddenly my face was victim to my family history. The skin on my nose was peeling off like sheets of phylo dough. Being a believer in natural remedies, and one of the millions of uninsured persons in the US, I needed to find a natural solution. Plus I was on the job interview circuit and could not show up to an interview looking like a victim of a bad skin peel job. I read about others on this site using ACV and the success they had using this topically and drinking it. I immediately began applying it to my face 2x a day, and drinking about 2 TBS 2x a day. It did sting the raw/affected parts of my face at first. To calm the burning feeling I used a little bit of Eucerin Calming Cream 5 minutes after applying the ACV. The cream used for burns, so I figured it was worth a try. The cream was great, I only needed it for a few days. As my skin started to heal, the burning was less and less. It took me a few days to get used to smelling like a salad, but once the odor evaporated the benefits were so worth it. Within 3 days my skin wasa 80% better. After 5 days 90% better. It's been a little more than a week, and my skin is looking healthy, and cured, by 100%. The skin on my face is once again soft and smooth, no dry patches. I'm hesitant to stop using and drinking the ACV because my skin condition was so bad before. I'm getting ready to travel and am trying to figure out how to fly with ACV - it is a natural miracle for distressed skin!"
