[YEA] 07/12/2008: JG from Los Angeles, California writes: "Dermatitis herpetiformis & ACV: i was struck by repeated bouts of what a dermatologist diagnosed as herpes zoster or shingles. went through a valtrex treatments each time the rashes appeared on my arms and legs. slowly emerging and very itchy bumps that would, over two weeks, become clear liquid-filled bumps. i suspected it had to do with infected scratches from dog toenails, as i was working with rescue dogs. lo and behold, it was - and my sister, a doctor across the country, had suspected dermatitis hep the whole time. it was much later that i stumbled upon ACV as an excellent cure that speeds up the cycle of the rash. i soak a gauze square with it and tape it to the affected area changing it in the morning and at night. such a relief to have a non-med cure! also, i have found that if i wash the scratched area immediately with anti-bacterial soap, it can prevent the rashes.:)"
Replies09/13/2008: Rho from Seattle, WA replies: "You can use glycerin which is cheap at the drug store. Mix with water 50% each. Apply thinly to face/neck as too much will make it feel sticky. Also I tried using Tom's of Maine Mint toothpaste, no fluoride. Cinnamon may cause flare ups or moisturizers for dry skin can actually make it worse. My 'expensive' department store moisturizer I just bought caused my last flare up. I am going back to the cheap stuff."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 05/15/2008: Joanna from Colorado Springs, Colorado writes: "My mom has had a bad rash on her face. Also, her skin is dry (not to the touch), but it is flakey and feels dry to her. At any rate, I found your website, and she tried Apple Cider Vinegar, and it is clearing up the bad rash. We are assuming it is dermatitis. No doctors have called "it" a name, and every cream they had her try just dried her face and more and usually did not clear up the red at all. So, the ACV is clearing up the red rash just fine but is not helping to make the skin less flakey. Every time it feels dry and tight, she is applying moisturizer from a good skin brand. She also does this as normal in the mornings and evenings. Any suggestions to help the dryness? Thank you!"
Replies05/29/2008: Sandy from Tampa, FL replies: "Hi, I think most people do experience dryness from apple cider vinegar and I use coconut oil for that. Also there are some good homeopathic creams- I also use a borage cream that helps to renew the skin cells instead of just covering up the dryness. Hope this helps!"

[YEA] 04/21/2008: Christine from Pasadena, CA writes: "I am just so delighted and amazed and I hope to have continued improvement. When I was sixteen I had PD and was put on prednisone and given the allergy tests. For months I had this embarrassing rash around my nose and mouth. At 43 I again started to get this rash that has not gone away despite all the normal medical recomendations. My life is very stressful and skin inflammation is one of the results of that. Praise God, because after putting the organic apple cider vinegar on my rash, it is starting to dissapear after 7 hours. I have spent so much money and time trying to get rid of this as it is such an awful rash. At first, it got itchy and red, but it is starting to feel better and I did not expect that the first day. Mine was an oozing, spreading rash that was starting to travel to my chin. I did the steroid route last time I had this, yes it helped short term, but perhaps that is why it came back 20 years later.
Thank you so much for helping me, all you friends you have suffered from PD. I will keep you informed about how this continues. Blessings, Chris"
Replies[NAY] 05/20/2008: Christine from Pasadena, CA replies: "Dermatitis and Apple Cider Vinegar: Hi, just report back after about a month since I tried ACV. Unfortunatly, after a week or so the rash began to return, and as I foolishly spent a day in the sun, it was quite red and the bumps were coming back. I tried a homeopathic cream from Walgreens called Prosacea; and after three weeks I am nearly healed.I was worried that my skin would become resistant to this product the way it did to ACV.Immediatly after applying the cream, the redness and itch began to cease. Blessings, Christine."

[YEA] 03/11/2008: June from Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin USA writes: "Hello Friends! I have used your site many times to look up remedies for common ailments, thank you for being here! Over the past 6 months, a rash has come and gone. It started after a nasty sinus infection and was limited to the areas just under my nostrils. I figured it was due to the sinus infection, but once the infection went away, the rash was still there. Then it added a few little spots at the end of my eyebrows. Slowly, it began to spread the the entire area around my nose and mouth, but not ever touching the lips. It would come and go and each time I would use a prescription steroid cream and it would seem to help a bit, but the rash keeps coming back more fierce than the last breakout. Finally, when this last flareup was so bad that I couldn't go out in public, I came here and read about ACV, have been using it topically and ingesting it, and it's working already. I have confidence that it will clear up in no time. This past weekend, my composite PH level was a shocking 6.0! My diet is 80-90% organic and I thought I was very healthy, I was surprised that I'm acidic. So HERE'S MY QUESTIONS: Is this perioral dermatitis? (I was basing the determination strictly on photos and descriptions I've found on the internet.) Is it related to my PH level? Is it possible it's the mites you write about? Will the ACV be enough? Should I add the Borax solution as well? Thanks again for being here, I refer to your website for every little thing that ails us! Keep up the great work!"

[YEA] 02/20/2008: Don from Missoula, Montana writes: "Here is my 2 cents. I have had an ongoing rash on my cheeks on both sides of my nose for about a year off and on. I considered spices and alcohol as culprits but even stopping both completely did not solve the problem. I read about ACV here and had nothing to lose. 3 days of topical use and my face cleared right up. That was over a month ago. (I have added spice and alcohol back with no problems) And in case you are wondering about the drinking.. it is only maybe a bottle of vino per week. Also the ACV was not the mother" but regular store bought stuff that did leave a nice burn upon application. ONE MORE USE: 2 weeks ago bringing in wood for the fire. Something on the wood left an immediate skin rash on the left inner arm where I was carrying the wood. Red, bumps, itch..... ouch! I mixed up white vinegar with baking soda and applied and the itch left, the swelling went down and the rash was gone in 2 day.. 3 days later it reappeared and I reapplied just white vinegar and it is gone. Not sure what was on the wood."

My case of dermatitis is very severe and i've had it for 20 years, so dont give up out there. I'm sure it will help some. Meanwhile, those of us who are still fighting this awful disease will continue to search for relief.""

I have had dermatitis on my arms since I was a child, and have bought those nasty psoriasis/dermatitis tar treatments that smell terrible, are expensive - and don't work!! The label says dermatitis is incurable, and that is FALSE! I tried putting ACV on a cotton ball and applied it to my arms once a day - the dermatitis is gone! It works! Thank you so much."

[YEA] 11/24/2007: Kathy from San Jose, CA writes: "I feel so fortunate to have found this site. Though my skin is usually problem free, I had contacted a really bad case of some sort of dermititis. Flaky, scaley, red patched on my cheeks, chin, in my eyebrows. My family history has eczema and psoriosis and I was freaking out that suddenly my face was victim to my family history. The skin on my nose was peeling off like sheets of phylo dough. Being a believer in natural remedies, and one of the millions of uninsured persons in the US, I needed to find a natural solution. Plus I was on the job interview circuit and could not show up to an interview looking like a victim of a bad skin peel job. I read about others on this site using ACV and the success they had using this topically and drinking it. I immediately began applying it to my face 2x a day, and drinking about 2 TBS 2x a day. It did sting the raw/affected parts of my face at first. To calm the burning feeling I used a little bit of Eucerin Calming Cream 5 minutes after applying the ACV. The cream used for burns, so I figured it was worth a try. The cream was great, I only needed it for a few days. As my skin started to heal, the burning was less and less. It took me a few days to get used to smelling like a salad, but once the odor evaporated the benefits were so worth it. Within 3 days my skin wasa 80% better. After 5 days 90% better. It's been a little more than a week, and my skin is looking healthy, and cured, by 100%. The skin on my face is once again soft and smooth, no dry patches. I'm hesitant to stop using and drinking the ACV because my skin condition was so bad before. I'm getting ready to travel and am trying to figure out how to fly with ACV - it is a natural miracle for distressed skin!"

[YEA] 02/06/2007: Kim from Westport, MA writes: "My dermatitis skin rash disappeared in 24-48 hours using ACV. I read your site about using apple cider vinegar, the testimonials is what made me start to use it. So I purchased Heinz apple cider vinegar and began drinking 2 tbls in green tea 3 times a day for two days now, and applied topically the vinegar to the affected area and low and behold my skin is smooth to the touch no scales or chapped skin left. I am so amazed! I also notice a boost in energy and an overall sense of well being. I will purchase the _______s version from the health food store so that I receive the whole benefits, but in the short time I have been using this, it's just short of a miracle! If you live with something for years and have tried everything and I mean everything to no avail, and something simple and over the counter (Apple cider vinegar) comes along you try it at least once...and for me the taste isn't too strong, its so worth it! I will keep drinking it and I will also apply some of the other stuff I have read on her like the blackstrap molasses! Thanks Earth Clinic for being here!"

The doctors took pictures and said it was one of the worst cases they had seen. They gave me an Rx for prednisone. Thank God I checked this site first. I applied ACV diluted in purified water to my face 3x per day and it completely cleared up within three days!! I cancelled the Rx. I LOVE ACV, and my skin looks better than when I used all of the expensive creams and lotions."

I have been reading so much about apple cider vinegar and decided to try it. Well, I was also diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and also came the slightly high blood pressure and cholesterol a tad high. I started to take the acv and low and behold, my next bloodwork was the best it has been in 5 yrs. If my next 2 check ups are like this last one I may go off my diabetic and blood pressure pills all together. WOW! Thank you GOD for having the acv at our disposal."

I wish that the dermatologists that I have consulted during the last 10 years would have told me about this wonder cure. But no, they rather sell you the expensive, useless and harmful steroid cremes. No wonder that our health system is so expensive and that the pharmaceutical industry is so profitable. Rotten to the bone!!! My positive feedback: I am cured!!!"

[YEA] 03/16/2006: Michelle from Chandler, AZ writes: "I remember suffering from eczema since I was five years old. Two years ago I found out that I had dermatitis. I went to the doctor and they prescribe me a cream to help it go away and it worked. However, the dermatitis came back six months ago and I have just been using hydrocortisone cream. I would go through a 1 ounce tube of hydrocortisone cream a week and if I didn't have any hydrocortisone cream I would freak out. I first started taking ACV in February after a friend told me that it supports weight loss. After a few days of use I notice that the dermatitis was clearing up and after a week or so it was gone. It would takes months for the dermatitis to clear up with just the hydrocortisone cream alone, but with drinking two tablespoons of ACV with water three times a day, still applying the hydrocortisone cream and eating the right food (like no salt or sodium) it has helped significantly clear up my skin. Not only that but my mom has noticed that my face has really cleared up, my scalp doesn't suffer from dandruff like it use to, I sleep better at nights, and I have a lot more energy. I have dropped bout 15 pounds and I am still losing. It is a great relief to know that this summer for the first time in a long time that I can finally feel comfortable wearing shorts and skirts."

[YEA] Anonymous writes: "Because of such a severe case of contact dermatitis from overuse of yeast medicines, I was left unable to walk or sit comfortably, and my skin was too sensitive for any topical medications, and oral cortisone only worked temporarily. My mother suggested using 4 tbs. of white vinegar with some juice to kill the taste. I'm glad to tell you that the vinegar, along with rest, has put me on the road to recovery in only 4 days after battling this illness for 4 months!"

[YEA] Amber from Salt Lake City, Utah writes: "When I turned 19, I started getting a rash on my legs in the heat. Then it gradually got worse in the cold. After I would get out of the shower my rash would get worse. Pretty soon my rash was there all of the time. I went to my Doctor and he gave me medicine -- it didn't work. He referred me to a dermatologist who gave me steroids and antibiotics, and cream. None of it helped my condition. Finally I started taking apple cider vinegar with 8 OZ. of water twice a day. In three days my rash was gone. I couldn't believe the results. I drank 2 TBS of ACV and @ TBS of Virgin Honey. It really worked for me. I have not had any bad effects with my teeth even though I have been taking it for three years."

[YEA] Felicia from Cincinnati, Ohio writes: "I had what I believed to be Poison sumac/ severe contact dermatitis. I soaked my arm in oatmeal bath, then applied ACV with a spray bottle. I did this 3 times a day. It has only been 4 days it is almost gone. My skin began to get very dry & itchy, so the last 2 days I've only applied the ACV once a day. The last time I had this. I had to get a steroid injection & was on oral steroids 3 weeks. It took 3 weeks for the dermatitis to go away. It took 2 months for my skin to return to it's original color. My skin in the healed spots is already my original color."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 07/06/2011: Earthgirl from Brisbane, Qld, Australia writes: "I have suffered with dermatitis in various places on an off for years. It seems to be more common in the cooler months for me. Currently I have an outbreak on my lower abdomen. I am using ACV dabbed on to the area, followed by Eczema & Psoriasis Cream by Moogoo (all natural ingredients). The cream feels soothing & cool, and keeps the skin from drying out. It has only been a couple of days but it's definitely improving."

[YEA] 06/03/2007: Ed Davis writes: "Skin Care - Dry Scaly Patches: I had some dry scaly skin on my nose and about for an inch or so on either side of my nose. I have been using a mixture of ACV, Baking Soda, and Water for a about a week and a half. I use about 1/4 tablespoon of BS and ACV till the bubbling stops. then I add just enough water to complete filling a small cup About 3 inches high, 1/2 full. I wash my face with this and leave it on for about a minute and then rinse it off. My skin on my nose and by my nose is now very soft and is no longer dry. I also found that when shaving with a razor that this mixture lubricated my skin and I did not get any cuts. I pieced this mixture together from reading about several items from this site. I love www.earthclinic.com"

[YEA] 10/29/2011: Sally from Perth, Wa Australia writes: "I'm in my early 30's and always had clear skin, much to my shock after several months on lots of antibiotics(had a severe pneumonia), I broke out with a rash around my mouth, just under my bipap mask which I wear 24/7. Anyway went to dr, told it was dermatitis and was prescribed topical steroids which I took for 10 days like everyone else it made it worse. Thankfully I found this site stopped the steroids (however I am on a low dose orally which I need for my breathing), and started the apple cider, which did give me relief. I used it topically twice a day, drank it twice a day and I started taking a probiotic. Within 10 days it was better then what it was, but my face was still very red and dry, I tried coconut oil, then I tried paw paw ointment and both made me break out. So I had read on here that calendular ointment was really good as its antifungal, antiviral antibacterial and anti inflammatory. I decided to stop using the ACV topically and I bought the pure calendula ointment and to my surprise 24 hrs later I could see a improvement, 10 days later it is nearly all gone. I put it on very regularly(every 60-90 min if I remember)and it really soothes the skin etc
Things might have cleared up if I had used the mother ACV but I couldn't get any in stock at the time, also having a mask over my dermatitis did not help as I never got any fresh air on it.
However if you don't get perfect results with the ACV I recommend the calendula ointment, thank you to whoever posted that initially, it has really helped :)"

[YEA] 12/05/2007: JEROLYN from Lebanon, TN writes: "I am 43yo and have suffered for 20 YEARS with this dermatitis curse! Like all the others, the prescription meds were but a band-aid to a much larger problem. I was elated to find this page. In the past the only treatment the doctors and I could manage was phototherapy, but just another band-aid. I have tried the ACV which initially worked then, to no avail. Probiotics produced no change. My sort is very stubborn! SO... I tried peroxide alone b/c that was all I had here at the house. It works very well for me but I am going to add Borax to the mix as I still get some minor flair ups. THANKS to you all! At least I have some hope of help other than producing further wrinkling to my already aging skin!"

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 05/02/2011: Sheila from San Diego, Ca, Usa writes: "I was using ACV when I contracted contact dermatitis. The ACV dilution w/water helped soothe my skin rash, BUT I'm not sure if helped or maybe made my other symptoms worse since I could have too much potassium, or be salt deficient. It's been over a week now, and I'm not completely over the contact dermatitis. My extremely dry skin is almost gone, but the rash seems to have spread. I'm stopping consumption of diluted ACV, and will now consume the sea salt flush after reading a snippet of "The Water Cure" on allergies.
I started developing hives and painful swelling around both my eyes just a few minutes ago, so based on what I learned from here and the water cure about sea salt's benefits, I drank 1/2 tsp of sea salt in 1/2 cup of warm water, chased it down with 12 ozs of filtered water, and my eyes feel SO MUCH better and the swelling around them is almost gone.
My guess now is I'm abundant in potassium (ACV), and now need the sodium to cure the rash, swelling and any hives that develop."
Replies05/04/2011: Sheila from San Diego, Ca, Usa replies: "Update: I definitely need to get some tests done!I used the saltwater flush a few more times and the angioedema around my eyes was worse. Someone on another messageboard I'm on wrote to keep flushing although it was counterintuitive. Well, I didn't continue it since my eyes started to swell more and I didn't want to land myself in Urgent Care with anaphylactic shock. Ugh.
I gotta stop going back and forth, and just stick to what I know now for this bout of dermatitis: diluted ACV topically to alleviate the itchiness and dry skin caused by Benadryl; consume nettle tincture in water for itchiness; Benadryl to alleviate the swelling and the itchiness, primarily at bedtime; exercise to increase adrenaline; green tea in moderation to reduce the swelling; drink plenty of filtered water to hydrate, flush and balance. Doing the above has brought me closer to normal."
