NETI POT, APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

1 YEA

[YEA]  10/11/2008: Marty from Nashville, Tennessee writes: "I have had seasonal outdoor allergies for most of my life due to living in Tennessee, which is known for high pollen counts. I have been able to manage this with over-the-counter medication until this past spring. I got deathly sick after painting a few rooms, pulling up old carpet, sanding some hardwood floors, and then trimming shrubs when the pollen count was high here. I've never had to seek medical attention until this event. I had all of the symptoms of allergic rhinitis, but was coughing my head off to the point of urinating on myself. The mucus was so bad that I was throwing up. With no health insurance or physician, I opted to go to a clinic inside Walgreens. I was placed on a Prednisone Dosepak and an Albuterol inhaler, and was told I had asthma due to allergies. After I took the prescription, I had one good month and then the symptoms returned. I went back to the clinic, and was given the same medication, but was also told to go to the emergency room because I was wheezing in all lobes of my lungs. With no insurance, I opted not to do this. I took the steroids again, but the symptoms came back. I was told I couldn't return to the clinic because asthma was out of their realm. I've been sick for over 5 months. The coughing has been so bad that my ribs feel broken.

I decided to take matters into my own hands. I purchased a Neti Pot (Sinu Cleanse) after seeing it demonstrated on Oprah. I highly recommend this to all! After a few days, it helped with breathing and sinus headache. I'm still doing this 3 times per day. I also found this website, and began the organic apple cider vinegar "cocktail." I use Bragg's, and have decided two tablespoons of ACV, 1/4 tsp. baking soda, and one tablespoon of raw honey in 6 ounces of water (3 times daily) works best for me. I heat this in the microwave for 40 seconds to melt the honey. I do this for 6 days on and one day off. I also eat a cracker with no salt on it while drinking this to help offset the taste. I'm on my 3rd week with the ACV, and I feel so much better. For someone who felt on the brink of death and that an ER hospital visit was next, I'm amazed at the results. I'm slowly weaning myself off of the inhaler, but still need it. I'm also taking Mucinex and Zyrtec with the hope of getting rid of it too. I highly validate this ACV remedy to allergy and asthma folks! I will keep it up as a maintenance regimen with hopes I don't get this bad again!"

10/13/2008: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hi Marty, Are you aware that magnesium deficiency is being connected to asthma? Getting your level up is said to decrease the incidence of asthma attacks. One site I was reading on recommended transdermal magnesium instead of oral because it was difficult to take enough magnesium orally without getting diarrhea which kept you from retaining the magnesium taken. You can just add a cup of epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) to your bath water several times a week."

OIL PULLING

3 YEA

05/16/2009: Sony from Sunnyvale, California writes: "hi,

[YEA]  08/19/2008: Michael from Los Angeles, CA writes: "Oil-Pulling (remedy) for allergies (ailment):

I started oil-pulling with Sesame oil about 3 months ago. It took a little while to get used to 1 whole Tablespoon of oil for 15-20 minutes, but I just did my normal morning routine while oil-pulling. I have not had to take any prescription allergy medications that I usually took at least a few times per month or when pollen counts were very high in my area. I oil-pull every morning when I wake up without fail and find that I have increased energy and no allergies."

[YEA]  12/29/2007: Gregory HOod from Washington, DC writes: "I started oil pulling 20 dec 07. have used olive, safflower, hemp, sesame, oils. also i have had others try the pull also. so far noticed from safflower are teeth got white, gums felt firmer, sinus's cleared, allergies diminished. from hemp i got sleepy. others that tried olive it immediately raised their mood levels and depression. gout pain eased with only one olive oil pull. i also add a couple of drops of peppermint in the tablespoon to kill the germs and open the sinus's too. sesame did not get any immediate results maybe because it is toasted . all in all everyone i have told that used it have been very happy with the results. only problem is trying to explain to them how it works. so i tell them that it works like oil in an auto engine that catches dirt and when you change the oil the dirt comes out. my nephew that is a plumber in oregon relayed that to me when i was trying to tell him to do the pull he automatically understood how the process could work. in his profession he stated that plumbers work with oil and water all of the time. smart nephew i have."

[YEA]  10/10/2007: Mark K from Ellensburg, WA writes: "I stumbled across this website looking for a cure for my allergies. I have missed weeks from work due to allergies in the last year. I used ACV and that helped with the allergies but I still had some problems. I started oil pulling and I could really see the toxins leaving my body thru mucas ect.. After two weeks my allergies have been cured and I feel great."

OREGANO OIL

1 YEA

[YEA]  07/10/2008: Jason H. from Phoenix, AZ writes: "About 2 weeks ago, I came down with some nasty allergies where my eyes were itching, watering, swelling, and just driving my crazy. My nose was also very runny. I take Oil of Oregano and Apple Cider Vinegar every day, but read about taking the Oil of Oregano sublingually. I started doing that twice day putting 3 drops under my tongue and holding it there for 60 seconds, then swallow with juice or water. Big difference! The allergies decreased by 80% within a couple hours. This stuff is awesome!"

PROBIOTICS

2 YEA

[YEA]  02/05/2009: Stephanie from Charlotte, NC writes: "Probiotics works for allergies. I am a lot better now. This is what I do. I take 3 cloves of garlic a day- diced up and eaten on sprouted wheat toast with cream cheese. Yummy! Really! I take 1 Kyodophilus probiotic and 2 fish oil pills and drink a small glass of strawberry kefir. I drink a lot of water throughout the day with a little of the kefir mixed in to give it flavor and get more good bacteria because kefir is full of beneficial bacteria. This works for me and also my teenage son takes 2 kyodophilus + 2 fish oils + a little kefir everyday and he is doing great!!! YEAH! p.s. we really try to stay away from sugary starchy foods. Also, we have tried many kinds of probiotics, but this is the best we've ever tried."

[YEA]  08/06/2008: Penny from Fresno, CA writes: "Thanks so much! I appreciate the osteoporosis info, esp today! [Edit note: Penny is referring to blurb in our latest newsletter]

By the way, you HAVE heard about boron for preventing and even reversing osteo-arthritis, haven't you?

Probiotics also rid me of sinus infections, but one needs to gradually work up to take them plentifully & regularly to be effective. A good idea, in my opinion, if one has allergies, IBS, sinus infections or otherwise compromised immunity. I read a scientific detailed report online stating that probiotics bond with carcenogens and "dance" them out of the body.

EC: We wrote Penny for more information:

8/6/2008: Penny replies, "http://www.glucosamine-arthritis.org/glucosamine/boron-arthritis.html

I think this might be a good link. I think there are others too.

Re; the probiotics, my nutrition guy said take 9mg preventatively. Said it is not fussy how it mixes with other stuff nor has to be TOP grade like MSM, but just not the Now brand, he said."

PSYLLIUM HUSK

2 YEA

[YEA]  05/21/2009: Wanda from Ubud, Bali, Indonesia writes: "I didn't notice enough written about allergies. My mother had a bad rash around her ankles and we made an appointment with the allergy doctor. He walked into the room and said, "Take psyllium husk!" It worked like magic. The rash was gone in days. She was always prone to food allergies but this easy solution was a big surprise and took care of her constipation problems as well.

I use 1 Tbl a day of it now for large intestine spasms and it has helped. These comments have been helpful because I see other ways it has helped me as well. I don't know if I'm addicted to it but sure don't want to be without it! Those spasms are pretty disabling as long as they last. If I combined it with ANYthing else, I'd blame the other thing before the psyllium husk, let alone any kind of CLAY! There is nothing natural about putting that into our bodies! And I've learned the importance of enough water as well!"

[YEA]  Ricardo from Palm Coast writes: "I started to suffer from allergies about 7 years ago. I took over the counter medication to help me with the allergies. Chlorotabs was the only medication to help throughout allergy season. Last year in November I did a colon cleansing using physillum husk for 3 months. I did not know or was it mention in the books I read that the colon cleansing would get rid of my allergies. This was the first year that I did not use any allergy pills because I no longer suffer from allergies."

QUERCETIN WITH BROMELAINE

2 YEA

[YEA]  05/23/2007: Kate from Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, UK writes: "Quercetin complex with bromelaine stopped an allergy attack dead in its tracks. After spending four hours sitting in a friend's garden, I succumbed to a really bad allergy attack - blocked sinuses, teary and mucousy eyes, and hot, prickly blood shot eyes, along with a thumping sinus headache. I took two quercetin complex tablets (also containing bromelaine) and within 15 minutes, my sinuses had cleared, the post nasal drip had stopped, and I could generally breathe! It took a while for the eyes to dry up - perhaps a few hours but ultimately it has stopped. I am continuing to take 2 capsules in the morning with breakfast for the next few days to keep things under control, but am confident that I can now control the summer hay fever."

04/06/2009: Rob from Manhattan, New York replies: "Thanks Kate...I would like to add to that Stinging Nettle. The three seem to be the most effective. The Stinging Nettle should be "freeze dried" in capsule form. These have worked well for me...It would be good to start now, a few weeks before blossom. I also take the Emergen C light with MSM (sorry for the brand name) as this reduces symptoms within 10 minutes."

EC: Read more about Emergen C ingredients and side effects here: http://www.earthclinic.com/Supplements/vitamin_c.html#SIDEEFFECTS

04/07/2009: Rob from Manhattan, New York replies: "thanks EC..I didn't know that about Emergen C. I take it occasionally & never had a side effect. Though I only take the "light" version which would mean less sweetener."

EC: The lite also contains aspartic acid, an excitotoxin. See "other ingredients" on this page: http://www.herbalremedies.com/emergen-c-lite-msm-supplement.html

[YEA]  06/30/2009: musicchick581 from By the Shore, NJ replies: "My (non food related ) allergies came on a couple years ago as a result of stress and poor eating, etc. They last all year long and would make me very tired, fatigued and congested/dizzy. I changed my diet and reduced dairy and wheat/gluten. There was a huge change in my digestion but not in my allergies.

I went to a new doctor (MD/DO) and asked for a natural method of combatting them. He told me to take Quercitin and Bromelain tablets once or twice a day on an empty stomach. I have been taking 2 of them, one in the morning and one at night and they have helped me TREMENDOUSLY with allergies. I can now walk around the block without feeling so sleepy when I come back. I blow my nose less often and haven't had a sinus infection this year. (Last year I had 2 or 3 for the first time in my life).

I've been on them for almost 4 months. They do take a little while to build up in your system I've read. Highly recommended!"

[YEA]  05/04/2009: Toni from Graham, NC writes: "I suffered from allergies for 27 years. One day I heard that Raspberries were good for allergies so I gave them a try. I will eat about four in the morning and 4 in the afternoon. I usually suffer from runny and itching nose, sneezing, watery eyes. It all disappeared, but you do have to eat them daily. Oh by the way I buy the frozen kind."

READER COMMENTS

01/31/2009: Catherine from Seattle, WA writes: "Every time I fly to California, I get an intense sinus reaction upon landing and walking outside of the airport. Within a day it usually turns into a hard to beat sinus infection. This is weird because it only happens when I go to CA. I fly plenty of other places all over the country and never have the same problem as I do in California. A friend of mine in San Francisco just told me told me that she started having terrible allergies the past 2 years -- never had any problems before that. She went to an allergist to treat the issues, who told her that he's seen a surge in people having allergy issues because (he believes) of global warming... Terrible, no?"

02/28/2009: Mary from Mukilteo, WA replies: "I have no allergies in coastal or desert California but have extremely bad allergies in Washington and Georgia (too much pollen and mold). I can hardly wait until I move back to California so my allergies will go away again! I also have no allergies in Laughlin Nevada when we go to visit or Las Vegas. The Southwest is the place to be if you have allergies. I think global warming is a "God-send" if it warms things up because it is frigging cold up here in the PNW. The dry heat is wonderful. Allergy sufferers should move to the southwest and drink some ACV!"

THE PAINKILLER LINK

[YEA]  03/11/2007: Dianne from Seattle, WA writes: "I've had minor allergies for most of my life & progressive allergies for about 8yrs. Many of my symptoms are "sub clinical" & even the Allergists have dismissed me as a chronic complainer when I describe my symptoms. My most recent issue is that if I take pain Tylenol or Benedryl I get chills & a weird, creepy-crawling feeling inside of my lower back. I asked the Dr. to check my kidneys but an ultra-sound looked normal. I'm now going to look into liver stress thanks to your article. I can't believe the Dr.s didn't make the connection at the time of my visit!"

THEORIES

1 YEA

[YEA]  02/20/2007: RD from Calcutta, India writes: "I heard something really interesting from an Indian parent in the US the other day. She was saying that her child, with two biological Indian parents, had a host of allergies. This is apparently very common for children of Indian parents who are born in the US. It is surmised that these children inherit, through their birth, highly evolved immune systems that are used to battling a lot of germs. But in the US there are comparitively few diseases to combat with the result that these highly evolved immune systems have nothing to do. They then turn on themselves and create all sorts of allergies. Isn't that interesting?"

03/20/2009: Evimush from Phoenix, AZ replies: "Yes, that is fascinating. Populations differences can tell us so much. Finally I read in Forbes that mainstream scientists are studying friendly bacteria. Having the same bacteria even in the same country is only 30%"

TURMERIC

8 YEA

[YEA]  09/01/2009: Rebekah from Athens, Ga writes: "WOW. For about 3 weeks now I have been taking 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric every day. My allergies are GONE. It worked in a matter of days. It works so well that I can hardly remember how bad my allergies used to be. I know that I was miserable and I was trying all kinds of over-the-counter crap from the pharmacy that wasn't working or made me feel worse. But turmeric... ahhhhh what relief!!! I used to have to sleep with a roll of toilet paper next to my head because I would wake up and blow my nose 6 or 7 times in the night. None of that now!!! No symptoms at ALL now unless I forget to drink my turmeric tea for 2 days.

This is how I take it: dissolve 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder in hot water (I get the powder from the spice section in my natural food store). I add a tiny amount of coconut oil because I read that turmeric works better if you take it with a little fat. Then I add a spoonful of blackstrap molasses because I like the taste. Keep stirring as you drink it so that the spice doesn;t settle at the bottom. I drink this any time during the day, just once a day. I had allergy problems my whole life- allergic to everything. Now I never even sneeze!!!!! I am so thankful. Hope this helps someone else.
:-)
~Rebekah"

[YEA]  08/28/2009: Polly from Chania, Crete, Greece writes: "Hi everyone,

I'm another fan of turmeric! I started taking turmeric about two weeks ago for my acne, after I had tried strong antibiotics and salicylic acid in the past. I had large pimples on my face and back and often painful boils that lingered on for days. I'm delighted to say that my skin has cleared up completely- it's the first time I 've seen it like this in years!

I also read how turmeric cures allergies and hayfever and recommended it to my boyfriend and my housemate, who both suffer from hayfever. At first they didn't even want to hear about it, but now - guess what- they swear by it! It works for both of them and they've stopped taking their hayfever/ anti-histamine medicines.
It does taste horrible though and after trial and error, the three of us are using the following recipe:

1 teaspoon turmeric diluted in 2 teaspoons olive oil (or whatever oil you want) and some warm water. Mix well and top up the glass with any kind of fruit juice. Drink with a straw.

This recipe makes drinking it a lot easier; we tried water and warm milk but it just won't go down- do give this a try, it makes the taste bearable.

I drink this every morning before breakfast for my skin and it works wonders! I see that there's no need for me to take more, so I just don't. However, with hayfever it's a different story. The other two people drink as much as they need throughout the day; my boyfriend is usually ok with 1-2 glasses per day, but my housemate needs more.

I think you just have to experiment until you find out what dosage works best for your particular needs. It definitely works though! Thank you so much Earth Clinic!!!"

[YEA]  09/08/2008: Carolyn from Northwest, Ohio writes: "I vote "yea" for Turmeric as a cure for allergies:

I suffered from hayfever type allergies seemingly constantly since we moved to our new house in Jan of '07. During that summer, my symptoms were so severe I couldn't be outside for 5 minutes without having a severe hayfever attack. I took OTC meds daily but they were getting harder to buy as they all got moved behind the pharmacy counter, plus they took hours to start working.

I sought out earth clinic and wrote down my top 5 cures for allergies, thinking I would start trying them in the spring of '08. But in the Winter of '07 I rescued a rabbit that needed to eat hay twice a day. Of course I was allergic! I decided to try Turmeric as it was the cheapest remedy. I started taking 2 capsules a day (720 mg caps) in February '08. Within 5 days I noticed a great improvement. After a few months with this regime, I started noticing my allergies getting less severe and less frequent. After 4 months, my husband told me, "You don't have allergies anymore!"

Now, 7 full months later (and past pollen season), I am down to 1 capsule per day as maintenance, and take an extra one if I have congestion. I am so thankful for this simple cure! The world is open to me again: I can go outside without bringing a snot rag. I can brush my cats daily with no symptoms. I can clean the cat litter without having a reaction to the dust. I can feed my rabbit and not suffer. I was able to bring my feather bed back out of storage and use it with confidence cause I'm not allergic to it anymore! I do still have problems with mold when it rains, but just clogged sinuses not the severe reaction I used to get. An extra turmeric capsule and I'm fine. Gotta love it!"

[YEA]  07/08/2008: Aster from Vancouver Island, Canada writes: "The infection is nearly gone!

I wanted to share, as well, that I have very bad seasonal allergies requiring daily anti-histamine treatment, plus eye drops and nasal spray. As a side effect of taking the turmeric capsules (I must assume as nothing else has changed), I do not have allergies today. It is very hot and dry and I was in the garden for hours today... it is the height of allergy season. I realized I had not taken anti-histamines for two days but have no allergies. I really didn't expect that!!!!"

[YEA]  10/25/2007: Dan from Cary, North Carolina writes: "Turmeric is one of the miracle spices in the world. Turmeric also builds your immune system. Since my Childhood I have always had sinus problems - runny nose - stuffed up when weather changes - I would be miserable for months - missing school – work when I came to USA.

Since last 4 yrs I have been taking less then ¼ teaspoon of turmeric pinch of black pepper mixed in milk ( 8 oz ) - warm it in microwave for 1 min 30 sec - stir it an drink that before going to bed ( you can take this in morning / afternoon – anytime you like )

I am a changed person – no runnier nose – no sneezing – when weather changes (especially during spring/fall) – I have no problem with pollens. During cold months I have no runny nose. My kids used to get sick during school months – now they also daily drink milk with turmeric – they are also free from cold and fall less sick during school time. Here are few ways you can take turmeric to help yourself.

1. Take less then ¼ teaspoon of powdered turmeric pinch of black pepper in 8oz of Cup – pour milk – place it in microwave warm it – ( Warm enough so that you can drink it ) - I usually warm it 1:30 min – remove stir it – enjoy your drink an your health.

2. You can also take ¼ teaspoon of turmeric in small cup – pour honey and warm it in microwave for 5 to 10 seconds – mix it well – using spoon eat it – 1 teaspoon – 3 times a day if you have cold / cough.

Have faith and continue drinking this – it may take 3 – 6 months before you start seeing results in your health. Need more information – mail me your question I will try to answer your question when time permits This site has great information – it has helped me with ACV – Oil Pulling – I am looking into H202 now. Good Luck to one and all."
