GMO
10/09/2011: Carly from Seattle, Wa - Usa: "Below is a post from another health related web site. I just went and signed the petition, and wanted to pass this on. I believe we should all have the choice as to buying GMO foods, and labeling them as such just seems like a really GOOD idea to me.
You do need to click on the link in the email they will send you before you can sign the petition, but it is a government site.-----------------------------------
Posted On Oct 04, 2011
A far better way to be heard is to check out whitehouse.gov and look on the front page for something called "We the People". Obama made a way for regular people like you and me to post a petition on the whitehouse web site and get signatures for the petition. Once it reaches 25, 000 signatures policy makers take notice and review it. It's potentially a direct route into Obama's office to bring something to his attention. It has to reach that many signatures before 4 weeks ends from the time of the creation of the petition.
Today I made a Whitehouse.gov petition about requiring all GMO foods to be labeled as such. Sign the petition before November 3 by copying and pasting the following URL into your web browser and clicking the link to "sign this petition". You will have to register with your name and email first:
Or if you could word it in a more convincing and thorough way make your own petition about it. I wish Dr. Mercola would create some petitions on the Whitehouse.gov website and then get us all to sign it. I don't have the time to word it perfectly and give quality research links backup in the petition for policy makers to review."

LIST OF AILMENTS AND VITAMINS NEEDED
06/22/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia: "Here is a great list of ailments and next to them is a list of vitamins that you may be lacking in. I saw quite a few symptoms I have that I need to supplement with. A good list to print out for reference.
Interesting warts and moles are said to be a deficiency of Vitamins C, A & E.

01/04/2012: Francisca from Zug, Zug, Switzerland: "Believe it or not things are changing here in Europe as far as diet recommendations go! A few days ago I came across an interesting article in a British newspaper, The Daily Mail where they were telling people to drink full fat milk instead of the processed skimmed alternatives. I didn't think that I would ever hear them say that..... And also, believe it or not, telling the readers that after all VCO is not bad for you. Now, you should know that VCO is hardly available anymore because of all the scary stories. In France a big supermarket even tried to get more costumers by telling them that they had banned palm oil from all their frozen and processed food. Once I had an interesting conversation with a lady who owned a franchise of that supermarket, asked her what she thought about all the war being waged against VCO and palm oil and she looked at me in shock because, although she owns the franchise, she had never come across all the publicity her own supermarket made against saturated fats. She told me that she was fully aware of how healthy they are!
Another article was about trans-fats and the fact that it is now knows that they are terrible for the heart but also for the brain and maybe one of the causes of the obesity epidemic as the brain doesn't know anymore when to tell you to stop eating. But.... Are they going to do anything to ban them? I don't think so! It seems that here in Switzerland trans-fats are now allowed, at least not in restaurants, no idea whether they are allowed in the food sold in supermarkets. But then MSM is not allowed here either, neither is Melatonin! Still... little by little things seem to be changing! Let's see......"

12/25/2011: Steve from Hesperia, California, United States: "A wholesome and healthy diet is critically important in negating any disease and the following article I feel is tantamount in understanding the 'why' we are seeing an increase in the many diseases that are plaguing society today.
There is a previously unknown micro-fungal-like organism with an approximate size range equal to a medium size virus. It is able to reproduce and appears to be a micro-fungal-like organism. Laboratory tests have confirmed the presence of this organism in a wide variety of livestock that have experienced spontaneous abortions and infertility. It is found in high concentrations in Roundup Ready soybean meal and corn, distillers meal, fermentation feed products, pig stomach contents, and pig and cattle placentas. This is a threat 'not only' to crop animal production, but to human health as well.
In Argentina and Paraguay, doctors and residents living in GM soy producing areas have reported serious health effects from glyphosate spraying, including high rates of birth defects as well as infertility, stillbirths, miscarriages, and cancers.
It is urgent to examine whether the side-effects of glyphosate use may have facilitated the growth of this pathogen, or allowed it to cause greater harm to 'weakened' plant and animal hosts. It is well-documented that glyphosate promotes soil pathogens and is already implicated with the increase of more than 40 plant diseases.
NOTE: Glyphosate dismantles plant defenses by chelating vital nutrients; reducing the bioavailability of nutrients in feed; which in turn - weakens and causes animal disorders... Bringing to mind "you are what you eat."
It's also reported that Roundup adjuvants bond with DNA - linking it to outbreaks of plant disease and implicating it with animal reproductive failure, which may explain the escalating frequency of infertility and spontaneous abortions over the past few years in US cattle, dairy, swine, and horse operations. These include recent reports of infertility rates in dairy heifers of over 20%, and spontaneous abortions in cattle as high as 45%.
Dr. Don M Huber, Emeritus Professor Purdue University, APS Coordinator, USDA National Plant Disease Recovery System (NPDRS) had expressed dire warnings to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on January 27. But to no avail... Vilsack gave blanket approval to all genetically modified alfalfa. And following orders from President Obama, he also removed buffer zone requirements. This was seen as a deliberate move to contaminate natural crops and destroy the organic meat and dairy industry which relies on GM-free alfalfa. Such genetic contamination will give the biotech industry complete control over the nation's fourth largest crop.
Criminally immoral and irresponsible, Monsanto and other biotech firms vociferously block independent research. They coerce or bribe representatives, governments and regulatory agencies, even globally, with little or no regard to the environment or human life.
Tom Laskawy at Grist estimated that in 2008, nearly 200 million pounds of glyphosate was poured onto US soils. But notes that "exact figures are a closely guarded secret thanks to the USDA's refusal to update its pesticide-use database after 2007. "... a figure that more than doubles what the EPA estimates was used in 2000.

Hexavalent chromium dangers were highlighted in the true story which was made into a film -- "Erin Brockovich" which some of you might know. In the study 31 out of 35 American cities were found to have very dangerous levels of Hexavalent Chromium in their tap water.

04/05/2009: T from Maryland, USA: "Things That Make You Go Hmm
Department of Health and Human Services Approves Fictitious Medical Device Review Board Led by a Dead Dog
"(NaturalNews) Just how trustworthy are medical review boards that review and approve medical devices? In a Government Accountability Office (GAO) sting, investigators were able to invent and register a fictitious review board with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), complete with a fictitious panel of doctors and a canine president named "Truper Dawg" (named after a real pet dog that had long since passed away).
...
But that's not all: To check out the credibility of existing Independent Review Boards (IRBs), the GAO invented a fictitious medical product called Adhesiabloc -- an adhesive gel used as a kind of "stomach superglue" following surgery. A proposal to begin a clinical trial of this adhesive gel on humans was submitted to an FDA-recognized IRB company, and the company approved it! This, despite the fact that the clinical trial called for pouring one liter of this adhesive gel into the stomach of patients."

02/02/2009: Earth Clinic : "Traffic Noise Causes Heart Attacks:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/trafficnoisecausesheartattacks
"People living in residential areas with high levels of noise from road traffic appear to suffer more heart attacks than people living in quieter neighborhoods, according to a new study by researchers at the Swedish medical university Karolinska Institute in Stockholm.
Goran Pershagen, who led the study, said 1571 people from the Stockholm area who had suffered heart attacks between 1992 and 1994 were compared with a control group from the same area. The addresses of all the individuals were indentified and the level of noise estimated.
Exposure to air pollution and other heart attack risk factors were also gathered using questionnaires and interviews, the researchers said. Once people with impaired hearing or exposure to other sources of noise had been eliminated from the study, the researchers found that there was a 40 percent higher risk of a heart attack in people exposed to traffic noise exceeding 50 decibels - a relatively quiet level of noise; heavy traffic is usually measured at between 80 and 90 decibels.
"More research will be needed to establish a definite correlation between road traffic noise and [heart attacks], but our results are supported by other studies showing the cardiovascular effects of noise," Pershagen said.
The possible link between noise and heart attacks should be taking into account when planning new roads and residential areas, he added. The study was published in the journal Epidemiology.""

01/11/2009: Dr Edo McGowan from Santa Barbara, California: "A major thread that runs through these comments seems to be "how did I acquire this bug?" For the average consumer, much of the current food one buys and brings into the kitchen is coming from confined animal feeding operations where antibiotics are given for enhancement of weight gain or reduction of disease. The result is antibiotic resistance and thus the food is contaminated during slaughter. The process of cooking usually kills these resistant pathogens, but in the interim, kitchen surfaces are contaminated. Rusin and Gerba as well as Boone and Gerba have published on the transfer of pathogens from contaminated surfaces to fingers to mouth.
People innocently bring these pathogens home, but once there they can be spread all over the house. Cleaning surfaces with a solution of bleach is just one of the necessary preventative measures needed in this modern society.
Another source of spread is reclaimed water. Valerie Harwood, et al looked at sewer plants across the U.S. that were producing reclaimed water for use in municipal irrigation projects like parks and golf courses. This water is also permitted for irrigation of leafy greens consumed raw. Harwood noted pathogens in all samples tested and concluded that the standards under which this water was being produced were not protective of public health. Thus there are several processes that are presumed to be under the guidance of federal or state regulators that are failing to protect the public health.
My group looked at reclaimed water that met state standards and we ran tests on it from two different cities that use it for school playing fields. We found multi-antibiotic resistant pathogens. In one case to 11 of the 12 antibiotics in our Kirby Bauer suite, including resistance to vancomycin.

I urge everyone that wants to retain the privilege of having a site like EC and its helpful information, as well as the privilege of being able to read about and buy the safer alternatives of vitamins, minerals, supplements and herbals to voice their opinions there very quickly. The route the FDA is taking now could even conceivably be used to abolish internet sites like EC or the Cancertutor.com.Now is the time to arise and sing out & let your desires be known."

It's called the Citizen's Briefing Book, and it's an online forum where you can share your ideas, and rate or offer comments on the ideas of others.
The best-rated ones will rise to the top, and after the Inauguration, we'll print them out and gather them into a binder like the ones the President receives every day from experts and advisors. If you participate, your idea could be included in the Citizen's Briefing Book to be delivered to President Obama."

Subject: Huge Victory for Health Freedom in the Making!
Mouse Warriors On the March:
Our Actions Are Bearing Fruit!Change.org influences Change.gov: Health Freedom Moves from Unofficial Site to Obama's Official Site!
We are deeply grateful for the extraordinary response you made to our urgent appeal day before yesterday, when it appeared that Health Freedom was being intentionally pushed off the "Top Ten" on Change.org.
You responded so powerfully that instead of falling below 9th Place, we rose up, all the way to 4th Place! Thank you! Now we are within just a few votes of overtaking #3.
Your actions have created enough pressure at the unofficial site, www.Change.org/ideas/view/health_freedom to bring Health Freedom to 4th place!
But Wait! There's More!
With that upsurge in public support, the OFFICIAL Obama site, Change.gov, (http://citizensbriefingbook.change.gov/ideas/viewIdea.apexp?id=087800000004oSw&srPos=2&srKp=087) has listed Health Freedom as an idea for you to vote on there, too.
The top ranking ideas there will be compiled into a "Citizens Briefing Book" and presented to Obama.
You did it! You got us into the second round of voting in the unofficial Change.org poll in just over 24 hours and then, even before Inauguration Day, you got us onto the official Change.gov Obama site.
You ARE good at this! So good, in fact, that now we get to vote on the official Obama site even before the inauguration. Voting at Change.org ends 5 PM Eastern on January 15, 2009 - that's tomorrow - and right now we are just 7 votes shy of 3rd Place! It's still important to cast your vote there AND move on to change.gov.
Click here (http://www.healthfreedomusa.org/?p=1754) for instructions or here (http://citizensbriefingbook.change.gov/ideas/viewIdea.apexp?id=087800000004oSw&srPos=2&srKp=087) to go directly to Change.gov to vote if you have already voted on Change.org.
Folks, this is about public pressure. We know exactly how bought-and-sold public policy is. But we also know that in this arena there are two forces: money (them) and voice (us). They have the money, we have the voices. We are using our resources magnificently here. Let's keep going. If you haven't voted at www.Change.org/ideas/view/health_freedom, please do so NOW... if you have any email addresses that haven't been voted, please VOTE NOW! Please tell anyone you know to vote! Then take just a moment longer and vote at Change.gov, (http://citizensbriefingbook.change.gov/ideas/viewIdea.apexp?id=087800000004oSw&srPos=2&srKp=087)
Step 3: Viralize!
Now send this information to your entire email letting them know that they have helped to move Health Freedom up a notch in public perception and we are moving forward strongly together. Ask them to visit www.HealthFreedomUSA.org so they can sign up for free, secure Health Freedom Action eAlerts, too. And thanks!"
EC: FANTASTIC!!
Note: you need to create an account with change.gov in order to "Vote Up"

NORTH CAROLINA'S BILL TO CRIMINALIZE NATURAL MEDICINE
04/05/2011: Sasha from Asheville, Nc: "Is everyone aware of this bill that they just managed to delay today? This is unbelievable!! Please tell everyone you know in NC to oppose it.
http://www.naturalnews.com/031964_North_Carolina_practice_medicine.html
http://www.naturalnews.com/031953_medical_practice_licensing.html"
04/06/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "This is going on everywhere, the restriction on natural medicine and supplements started here in Europe on April 1st and.... Just it was not a joke! Not only a lot of supplements will be banned, others have to have such expensive licenses and trials that they will disappear anyway and the quantities of vitamin and minerals in supplements will be so small that it is no use taking them anyway! I don't know much about the restrictions on the treatments but they exist as well. I think that the goal is to get rid of anything natural."
04/06/2011: Jima from Ocean View, Delaware replies: "I hope you meant H. G. Wells"
04/07/2011: Lisa from Rabat, Morocco replies: "Actually it was George Orwell ;)"
04/09/2011: Susan from San Francisco, Ca - Usa replies: "Hello Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France. I was wondering if there are any protests going on in Europe regarding the Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive (TMPD)? Europe is so much older than America and I'm really shocked that the corporations have gotten away with this. Are the authorities talking about outlawing an individuals right to make their own traditional medicines for their own use or the giving away of it to freinds or neighbors? Thanks So Much"
04/11/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "Hi Susan, San Francisco, I was dreading the 1st of April but we have just come back from Holland where I went to a very good health food shop and they were still selling a lot of supplements. I have the feeling that a lot have disappeared as small firms were not in a state to pay for tests and registration but there are still enough supplements around. It seems that there were many protests when they wanted to do it years ago so it didn't happen, only when they died out the law was passed without people even knowing about it. A lot of laws are passed that way nowadays, unfortunately. When you hear about it it is too late to do anything. I know that people have been writing to their MEP (Members of the European Parliament), I did too but it didn't help, well, it hardly ever does. I think that protesting, at least peaceful protest doesn't help here anymore. Even violent ones don't help, they wait for them to die out, throw a number of people in prison to teach the other ones a lesson and that's it. People are too buy trying to live their lives and too afraid of the consequences.I think that you can make your own medicine and give it to someone else, they have no way of knowing but till a little while ago, here in France, it was forbidden to make nettle juice to treat your farm or your garden, which is cheap and very good, or to give the recipe to someone else. Now it is still forbidden to use it in a farm but you can use it in your garden. That smells like repression to me.... Only so that big corporations make more profits making stuff which hurts us and the environment! They also want to outlaw many health practitioners if they don't pay high registrations fees, let's see what happens. The few we have around here seem to be working so far....... The other day I advised a book here called The Trillion Dollar Conspiracy, I will post a little review in the book section soon. Maybe of interest to some of you...... I don't know where I would be without my supplements!"
04/11/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Francisca, what I am doing is learning about herbs, many of which are found growing near us in the garden or in parks or the side of the road (as weeds). Our ancestors went to nature for cures of illnesses. We need to do the same."
04/12/2011: Stacey from Greensboro, Nc replies: "Hi everyone,I'm a nonpracticing herbalist in North Carolina, and I wanted to give you an update on NC Senate Bill 31(AN ACT TO CLARIFY THE PENALTY FOR THE UNAUTHORIZED PRACTICE OF MEDICINE).
Because there has been such a protest, the bill has been amended to exempt alternative medicine practitioners. For the time being, we can still practice.
I do believe that the bill wan't meant to attack alternative practitioners, but rather to counter the unlicensed cosmetic surgery clinics that have caused a few deaths in NC. Basically, people were going to get what they thought were "botox" injections and ended up dying. Also, remember that NC is in the middle of the "Bible Belt, " and that bill would have made faith healers felons. Considering the "religiousity" of conservative NC culture, the bill would have harrassed the constituency of many government officials.
That being said, we still have to see how these bills are supported:
SB 467 Naturopathic Licensing Act
HB 522 Midwifery Licensing Act (currently in the House Health & Human Services Committee)
HB 847 Naturopathic Doctors Licensing Act"
04/12/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "Hi Debbie, that sounds great but I am always afraid to use any herbs or berries growing in the wild as many plants look like each others. Nowadays we eat quite a lot of dendelion, for example, but I wouldn't collect it from my garden. A friend of mine does but I am afraid. Silly maybe but you only need to make a mistake and it can kill you. A short while ago I pointed out to my husband what seemed like flat leaf parsley growing in the garden of our rented house. As I knew that they used to grow some vegetables because I found the lables I thought that it really was parsley but my husband pointed out that it is some other herb which is not edible so..... Be careful!I still hope the world will change and all this repression will one day end so that we can choose what we want to heal ourselves. For the time being a person like me, who mostly uses natural therapies and supplements will be insured, pay a lot of money but make little use of it while paying everything else on the side. My husband who goes mostly for main stream medicine doesn't use his natural allowance at all but he can't pass it on to me and as it is rather small most of what I take I have to pay myself! Not fair......"
04/12/2011: Susan from San Francisco, Ca - Usa replies: "Hi Francisca in Alsace - I read somewhere that the law went into effect April 1st but wouldn't be implemented until May 1st. Odd, that."
04/12/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Hi Francisca, yes you have to be very careful. But in the meantime you could buy herbs from reputable stores or online businesses. I am also buying seeds. I have some wonderful herb books. I read all the time. Many herbs can be used in a tea and you can get many benefits from them. If I read about herbs I don't really know about I google the name and click on "images" and it brings up all the photographs of the herb. Great for checking what they look like."
04/12/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Stacey, you may want to google "Codex Alimentaris Danger". They want to ban nutritional supplements and organic food. You won't be able to grow organic food in your own garden! Please research."
04/13/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "Susan, San Francisco, you know more than I do..... Let's wait for May 1st then.....Debbie from Melbourne, could you maybe add a few reviews of the books you have been reading to the book page? That could be very interesting for a lot of us! I will look up the Codex Alimentaris Danger. Could it really be true that they want to outlaw even organic farming in your own garden? I can hardly believe it...... But then, as I said before, they outlawed here making nettle juice even to use in your garden and giving the recipe to anybody. That has changed now for private use but is still prohibited in farms, maybe because it is efficient and cheap?"
04/13/2011: Stacey from Greensboro, Nc replies: "Hi Debbie-I'm aware of the Codex Alimentarius. It is scary--I've moved heavily into regional wildcrafting in case the worst happens. Luckly, I live in a richly biodiverse area. Let's see them try to eradicate poke weed, dandelion, and chickweed ;)"
04/13/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Stacey, yes I agree they can't eradicate weeds so we need to learn about weeds (even go seed collecting from weeds in the wild that haven't had pesticide on them). There are some good websites about "survival" Some weeds have amazing vitamins, health benefits. A good way to get vitamins from the "weeds" is to juice them, although I haven't done that yet."
04/14/2011: Lily from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia replies: "Hi Debbie, like Francisca also asked, could you please give us some of the title's of the best Herb books you have, like and recommend! Thanks Lily."
04/14/2011: Lisa from Thousand Oaks, Ca, Usa replies: "Hi Francisca and Lily, I just wanted to respond to your request about wild foods and herbs. Last year I did a lot of studying on it and went on a few wild food hikes in our area which were really awesome.I wanted to tell you that if you go on youtube, there's a really great guy who teaches you extensively about wild foods and even how to prepare them. His channel is called Eat The Weeds on youtube and you can watch tons of episodes. Also there's a guy name Markus Rothkranz and he did a dvd series called Free Food And Medicine which I think if you google it, you will find it. He's a very interesting guy and I had the opportunity to hear him speak here in LA. He was a very sickly child and adult that transformed himself w/ wild foods and raw foods.
Both of these suggestions will teach you a whole lot on wild foods. When I was on my road to restore my health, we juiced everyday and added in weeds from our yard. They are so powerfully restorative if you know what you're choosing! Best to you both!"
04/14/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "One book I would recommend is "How can I be prepared with Self-Sufficiency and Survival Foods, Isabell Shipard". There are 16 pages of edible weeds. Here is a good link to a survival website will some good books. These relate to Australia but I am sure some weeds are global. Excellent website.

VEGETABLE OILS

[WARNING!] Bill from San Fernando, Luzon, Philippines: "Here is an extract from a long article laden with research data that runs through the history, corruption and propaganda that has been put out -- and is still being put out -- by sections of the US food vegetable oil industry as well as the FDA, concerning how healthy vegetable oils are for us in our diets. This extract, from a long article, is by Mrs Mary Enig, Phd, a famous researcher in nutrition. As Ted from Bangkok has already said, polyunsturated vegetable oils, whether chemically processed or not are simply not good for us. This extract also does not describe the effects of trans fats in margarine etc, but does describes the many other bad effects of especially rancid and oxidized vegetable oils:
Dangers of polyunsaturates(veg oils)
"The irony is that these trends have persisted concurrently with revelations about the dangers of polyunsaturates. Because polyunsaturates are highly subject to rancidity, they increase the bodyâTMs need for vitamin E and other antioxidants. Excess consumption of vegetable oils is especially damaging to the reproductive organs and the lungsâboth of which are sites for huge increases in cancer in the US. In test animals, diets high in polyunsaturates from vegetable oils inhibit the ability to learn, especially under conditions of stress; they are toxic to the liver; they compromise the integrity of the immune system; they depress the mental and physical growth of infants; they increase levels of uric acid in the blood; they cause abnormal fatty acid profiles in the adipose tissues; they have been linked to mental decline and chromosomal damage; they accelerate aging. Excess consumption of polyunsaturates is associated with increasing rates of cancer, heart disease and weight gain; excess use of commercial vegetable oils interferes with the production of prostaglandins leading to an array of complaints ranging from autoimmune disease to PMS. Disruption of prostaglandin production leads to an increased tendency to form blood clots, and hence myocardial infarction, which has reached epidemic levels in America.
Vegetable oils are more toxic when heated. One study reported that polyunsaturates turn to varnish in the intestines. A study by a plastic surgeon found that women who consumed mostly vegetable oils had far more wrinkles than those who used traditional animal fats. A 1994 study appearing in the Lancet showed that almost three quarters of the fat in artery clogs is unsaturated. The âartery cloggingâ fats are not animal fats but vegetable oils.
Those who have most actively promoted the use of polyunsaturated vegetable oils as part of a Prudent Diet are well aware of their dangers. In 1971, William B. Kannel, former director of the Framingham study, warned against including too many polyunsaturates in the diet. A year earlier, Dr. William Connor of the American Heart Association issued a similar warning, and Frederick Stare reviewed an article which reported that the use of polyunsaturated oils caused an increase in breast tumors. And Kritchevsky, way back in 1969, discovered that the use of corn oil caused an increase in atherosclerosis.
Benefits of saturated fats
Foods containing trans fat sell because the American public is afraid of the alternativeâsaturated fats found in tallow, lard, butter, palm and coconut oil, fats traditionally used for frying and baking. Yet the scientific literature delineates a number of vital roles for dietary saturated fatsâthey enhance the immune system, are necessary for healthy bones, provide energy and structural integrity to the cells, protect the liver and enhance the bodyâTMs use of essential fatty acids. Stearic acid, found in beef tallow and butter, has cholesterol lowering properties and is a preferred food for the heart. As saturated fats are stable, they do not become rancid easily, do not call upon the bodyâTMs reserves of antioxidants, do not initiate cancer, do not irritate the artery walls.
Your body makes saturated fats, and your body makes cholesterolâabout 2000 mg per day. In general, cholesterol that the average American absorbs from food amounts to about 100 mg per day. So, in theory, even reducing animal foods to zero will result in a mere 5% decrease in the total amount of cholesterol available to the blood and tissues. In practice, such a diet is likely to deprive the body of the substrates it needs to manufacture enough of this vital substance; for cholesterol, like saturated fats, stands unfairly accused. It acts as a precursor to vital corticosteroids, hormones that help us deal with stress and protect the body against heart disease and cancer; and to the sex hormones like androgen, testosterone, estrogen and progesterone; it is a precursor to vitamin D, a vital fat-soluble vitamin needed for healthy bones and nervous system, proper growth, mineral metabolism, muscle tone, insulin production, reproduction and immune system function; it is the precursor to bile salts, which are vital for digestion and assimilation of fats in the diet. Recent research shows that cholesterol acts as an antioxidant. This is the likely explanation for the fact that cholesterol levels go up with age. As an antioxidant, cholesterol protects us against free radical damage that leads to heart disease and cancer. Cholesterol is the bodyâTMs repair substance, manufactured in large amounts when the arteries are irritated or weak. Blaming heart disease on high serum cholesterol levels is like blaming firemen who have come to put out a fire for starting the blaze.
Cholesterol is needed for proper function of serotonin receptors in the brain. Serotonin is the body's natural "feel-good" chemical. This explains why low cholesterol levels have been linked to aggressive and violent behavior, depression and suicidal tendencies. MotherâTMs milk is especially rich in cholesterol and contains a special enzyme that helps the baby utilize this nutrient. Babies and children need cholesterol-rich foods throughout their growing years to ensure proper development of the brain and nervous system. Dietary cholesterol plays an important role in maintaining the health of the intestinal wall, which is why low-cholesterol vegetarian diets can lead to leaky gut syndrome and other intestinal disorders.
Animal foods containing saturated fat and cholesterol provide vital nutrients necessary for growth, energy and protection from degenerative disease. Like sex, animal fats are necessary for reproduction. Humans are drawn to both by powerful instincts. Suppression of natural appetites leads to weird nocturnal habits, fantasies, fetishes, bingeing and splurging.

My own take on saturated fat intake is that since it is now all but impossible to guarantee that animal fats or meat sources used in our western diets like pork, beef and chicken can no longer be guaranteed to be grass fed, in their natural habitat and that their food and water comes from pollution free, unleached soils etc as was the case in the 19th century -- I would always therefore prefer virgin coconut oil as my favourite saturated oil source."
