I had bad breath from my teenage years. Spoiled my life. 5 years back, I found acidophilus is helpful. True. I don't have it any more.
You can't just take them after antibiotics. You must realize if you drink tap water you are killing your good bacteria via chlorine and fluoride. And don't forget all premade drinks are made with tap water! Also, if you are not eating 100% organic, you are eating GMOs and pesticides/herbicides. Guess what? Those also kill good bacteria!
Acidophilus Brand Recommendations
I have found a great product with 100% acidophilus in it with no additives all natural, I never heard of this product before so I assume it may be new on the market, I found it's only sold in whole food stores, It's odd that I didn't notice this product, how-ever some one gave a brand new big bottle of this called "Siggi's" it's 100% pure. I use it inside and out but of course it's just as good to drink. I am going to write more on this on the next page on bacterial vaginosis infections etc.
Homemade Probiotic Recipe
Ed2010 from Canada --- It sure is a good way to go. When I make Miso, I steam veggies daily and use water to soak sea weed overnight. Then I dessicate the miso paste and add it when I have taken the soup off the stove. Toasted sesame oil - a dash and some celtic salt with a few rings of leek and few slivers of fresh ginger. I agree with you and it also protects from the effects of radiation. Great.
Homemade Probiotic Recipe
This is not some special recipe to make. By far the best and Cheap Probiotic food.
Mix 7 teaspoons of Miso paste in 1.5 ltrs of warm water, throughly mix it well. And store in a Juice Can and keep in refrigerator. Drink 100 ml or 200 ml a day or whenever you get time take out of the refrigerator and drink couple of sips. Comes for 1 week.
This gives you Trillions of beneficial bacteria and yeast. The taste is bit salty but very good for health. For me it is delicious.
Remember, it should be a good organic miso.
I bought organic imported Japanese Miso in Big Carrot. For 7 dollars, just a small container. You can make 5 - 7 batches of juices.
So, if you calculate the price per serving it is damn cheap than a probiotic pill.
Just a couple of sips can provide whole lots of nutrition and probiotics.
I always buy Red Miso, coz it is made with Soya and Brown Rice. Brown Rice has the complete Amino Acid profile and bioavailable. Which means it is easily absorbed by the body. Amino acid is the basic building blocks of the body.
Miso, is a very complex fermented food, research are very less on it. As it is made with real sea salt, you can get Boron, Iodine which are necessary for the body. Boron and Iodine are what we are deficient in North America today.
Natural Sodium Chloride to promote stomach acid HCL secretion.
I respect and Salute Japanese Heritage.
I tried to make the 'Coconut milk yogurt' as the recipe listed, but it didn't thicken. It is still the consistency of milk. Could someone tell me what I did wrong? Thanks for your help.
Eat more Parsley, gargle with a good mouth wash, brush your tongue. Go to doctor to see if you have acid reflux. Do not eat late night. Food and acid can come up your esophagus. Take Probiotics. Refrigerated brands are key.
im from philippines and im planning to buy acidophilus to cure my bad breath but I found out that there's a lot of different acidophilus products.. Can u help me which one is the best?
Probiotics are amazing in there healing power, please be sure to be using the right one. I've done some research and there was a GI specialist that could not cure his patient who had serious stomach issues after using antibiotics. The GI doc finally found a probiotic that cured the person you can buy it over-the-counter Florastor. I hope this helps someone with issues.
I agree with Tina from Houston. I try to incorporate in my food the lacto-fermented veggies or homemade kefir or yogurt, so I don't have to depend on the "half-baked" probiotic like she calls them. If I do buy the capsules I usually test them first to see if they ale alive by opening a capsule and putting it in a glass of lukewarm milk (which I boiled first) and letting it sit at room temperature for 24-36 hours. (basically using it as a yogurt starter). Some will form the yogurt, some will not( the useless brands) - the milk will not thicken and just go bad. That tells me which ones are alive. Then I just continue to use the probiotic yogurt as a starter for the next batch. This will also make the probiotics go a long way.
Probiotics in your gut are highly dependent on other factors for example if one has more enzymes in their system, the probiotics could multiply in that environment and sustain themselves. However enzymes get depleted with age, and most cooked foods and packaged and processed foods are enzyme free, so either one can supplement with high quality enzymes, or have a daily veggie green juice (FRESH) not the pasturized ones sold in the stores without enzyme content.
Also, ingesting probiotic rich foods like kefir, yogurt, sauerkrauet, cortido (all made by lacto fermentation) are rich in probiotics, so if one consumes bits of these daily, there is no real need to supplement with Over the counter probiotics unless one is on an antiobiotic course.
Finally the quality of over the counter probiotic hugely varies according to how it was manufactured, transported and stored in the stores. Heated temps above 68 degrees kill probiotics, and very few brands mention that on their packaging. So best to eat lacto-fermented veggies and dairy mentioned above instead of relying on half baked probiotics.
Hope that answers your questions.
Ken, if everyone lived in the pre-industrial or pre-agricultural eras, diminished gut flora wouldn't be a problem. In the presence of nutritionally deficient and/or toxic foods, any number of illnesses or compromised body systems (principally immune & detox systems), the variety & number of probiotics in the gut can become severely diminished; so for many folks it's necessary to supplement on a daily basis.
If you take probiotics for awhile, wouldn't it make sense that once the cultures are established inside of you they could replenish themselves? We know that they multiply, they are live cultures, after all. (At least until you had to take antibiotics again. )
Does anyone know why people are given the idea that they need to keep taking probiotics continuously and indefinitely? Is there a reason to continually take something that should be self-replenishing, other than the manufacturers want to keep selling as much as they can? Any ideas
jc from manila,
Are u using acidophilus? If you are, what's the brand? Can u attest to its effectiveness? I'm finding an effective acidophilus brand to combat my candida problems..
Hope you reply on this.
Try 6 billion live good bacteria in 1 capsule. It helps to colonize bad ones so you get rid of Halitosis.
Homemade Yogurt Recipe
Well, this is how I make cocnut milk yogurt and I'm sure it works the same with any type milk. Just remember that homeade yogurt is thinner than commercial. Coconut Milk Yogurt
3-14 ou, cans coconut milk (I use a brand called Bright, its thicker)
1/4 cup good quality commercial plain and unsweetened yogurt
1-2 tablespoons honey
Bring milk to 125 degreesands remove from heat. Cover and cool to 110 degrees. Its important to let the temp drop so you don't kill the bacteria you are going to introduce. Remove 1/2 cup cooled milk and make a paste w/the 1/4 cup commercial yogurt. You could use a starter but why waste the $$?You can use your homeade yogurt for a starter for your next batch. Mix the paste with the remainder of the cooled milk and add the honey and stir thoroughly. The honey feeds the bacteria. Pour milk in a shallow glass or enamel bowl, cover and let stand for 24 hrs. At a temp of 100-110 degrees. I do this by turning on my oven light and keeping the milk in the oven, let everyone know your making yogurt so no one turns off the oven light! Happened to me more than once! After 24 hrs. , move to the refrigerater. For cocnut milk yogurt the milk seperates from the water so I por off some of the water and its thicker. If you have never tried cocnut milk yoguet it is delicious! Great for vegans or vegetarians! Its just good! Let me know how it turns out! Lisa

Homemade Yogurt Recipe
YUM! Thank you for taking the time to write the recipe out! This makes the best tasting yogurt just like the really expensive greek yogurt at the store. I used zero fat organic milk and flavored it with cinnamon and stevia. Big time yum! Thank you :)
Homemade Yogurt Recipe
Thanks for the recipe, my husband use to do yougurth with a "special yougurth maker" in little glass cups, it was a lot of work to get the six glass cups. I always wandered if it could be done in a big bunch in the slow cooker. Now I know. I will follow your instructions. Thanks a lot.
Homemade Yogurt Recipe
Hello everyone. As you already know, yogurt with high levels of probiotics is very healthy. In my search for "affordable yogurt" I came across an EASY recipe for HOMEMADE yogurt. All you need is:
1)a crock pot
2)milk-any kind you wish, I started off with whole milk
3)yogurt starter- you can use the probiotic package kind from a health food store, or just go out and buy an 8 oz. PLAIN dannon for a starter (starters add probiotics to get the culture STARTED. ) save a cup at the end for the next batch. Prep time is approx. 10 min total
1)BOIL WATER TO SANITIZE CROCKPOT-OPTIONAL
2)put milk in crockpot and turn "ON":ANY KIND OF MILK- (1ST TIMERS USE WHOLE MILK)
a)high for 1-1/2 hrs. Or:
b)low for 2-1/2 hrs.
3)turn crockpot "OFF" for--- 3HRS. ----- and let cool to 170 degrees (the purpose thus far is to have killed ANY bad bacteria-personally I've never used the thermometer just strictly followed the recipe (cooling is imperative or your yogurt will not culture.
4)after the three hours take lid off of crockpot and add starter--stir with wisk to get starter thoroughly mixed in. 5)take a clean bathtowel and cover the whole crockpot and let sit for 8-9 hours to culture the probiotics. The longer the more sour the taste( some people prefer more sour)
Milk to starter ratio: 1Gal. milk=1cup starter
and so on.......
6)To refridgerate: take a collander and a bowl... (bowl preferably larger than the collander)flip a small salad bowl upside down to elevate the collander-line the colander with coffee filters, or cheese cloth (I used a new t-shirt washed and bleached). And let the whey protein (chock full of amino acids that are good for you)drain out into the big bowl-the longer drain= thicker yogurt (I like it thick like greek yogurt). The amino acid filled whey can be drunk, added to recipes requiring water(baking), boil pasta in it etc.. If you don't like plain, put honey or fruit on top yum! Once you do this a couple of times it is so simple. I wanted to share this recipe with earthclinic readers because of the health benefits to me personally and hopefully to others:
1)reduces acid reflux
2)probiotics loosen stool (not diarreah)like popular yogurt advertised on t. V. Haha!
3)can be used in female remedies
4) so satisfying it can be used in weight control by diabetics who eat small meals.
5)used by people w/ gastrointesinal issues
6)when using lower fat milk(have'nt tried skim yet), can be used as a delicious alternative in soups, casseroles, desserts etc. To lower total fat intake. Aside from being very healthy it is easier on the pocketbook. I make homemade yogurt for approx.. 60 cents a quart versus $6. 00 a quart at the grocery store. God Bless and have fun with it!
In regards to your question, I went to the local vitamin store and purchased the acidophillus in a live form. The bad bacteria had taken over my intestines and my breath smelled 10x worst than a garbage dump. Well I just took a couple of pills 2 hours ago and I can already feel it working.
I've been using hydrogen peroxide 3%, baking soda as a mouthwash for three days now and it's been working great. I've been dealing with bad breath for years now and I thank you for your help but I do think my breath can smell more better. Is there a certain kind of acidophilus I have to use to clear my bad breath up completely? Thank you please help.
Acidophilus is one of the more popular treatments for Bacterial Vaginosis.
Find the feedback here:
I've always had outbreaks of cold sores for more than ten years until a friend told me about Acidophilus. Whenever I feel the tingling on my mouth I crush two tablets of the (Probiotic) Acidophilus (preferrably the Schiff brand) with 1 tsp. of milk and take and repeat this three times a day.
The outbreaks of my cold sores usually happens after the intake of antibiotics which usually breaks down the friendly bacterias so the acidophilus regularises the friendly bacterias and it's a great digestive support.
Acidolpholis cured my cold sores and fever blisters. Had them all my life and saw a note about this bacteria in a magazine. I laughed, like everyone else. Later is desperation I tried some Bulgarian Buttermilk and within 24 hrs they were gone. Worked for years, then they took the buttermilk off the shelves. Replaced it with bulgarian style (no bacteria added). It's a fake and doesn't work anymore. Bought the pills over the counter. Also works great. Just take one or two ocasionaly when traveling and eating processed food.If takeing antibiotics or drinking clorinated water you will need to take a mega dose between antibiotic pills. You will be amazed. No thrush or hemorriods. Most every company has thier own kind of bacteria so I alternate and keep a couple on hand. Some now say that they contain Bulgariacus. That apears to be the best.
After being diagnosed with IBS and perioral dermatitis I knew I had to make a change. I did my research and talked to a few people at the health food stores and then added probiotic acidophilus to my diet. The first week I took 2 times the recommended amount, the second week I cut it down the recommended amount and then have stayed on that amount rather well the past 10 years. It has fixed all the problems with my skin as well as my digestinal tract. All the diseases of the body start in the stomach and colon, the acidophilus either in capsule form or yogurt help correct this imbalance. By fixing the imbalance, everything else falls in line. My skin is beautiful now. I would recommend this to any one suffering from any skin lesions and digestive problems.
I found acidophilus to be very helpful with insomnia.
I've had my fare share of sore throats, and I find that taking one capsule (1 billion count of organisms) of Acidophilus plus one 200mg of Ibuprofen every 4 hours helps with the pain.THIS IS JUST A SUGGESTION. This works for me, but may cause further health problems in others. Acidophilus is a probiotic, which means you shouldn't take it with antibiotics. Acidolphilus contains the same Lactobacillus (rod-shaped bacteria) found in milk or cheese. The breakdown of nutrients by Lactobacillus Acidophilus produces lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and other byproducts that make the environment hostile for undesired organisms. Acidolphilus is not recognized by the FDA to cure any disease. Ibuprofen helps in reducing the swelling. Ibuprofen is a blood thinner and shouldn't be used with other blood thinners. Ibuprofen has also been known to cause stomach pains and stomach bleeding. If stomach pains occur, drinking milk may help. READ THE DRUG FACTS LABEL.
My friend who sells herbs and vitamins noticed my bad breath and told me how to cure it. He said my small intestine was in need of good bacteria so he put me on Acidophilus (___, 8 billion) per day and now I not only never have bad breath, my gums no longer bleed and hurt and it is helping me with my fight with Candida. I won't go without the Acidophilus ever again!
If I feel a boil coming on, I take Acidophilus, one a day. The boil never fully comes out. I take it for a couple of days, or a week if I actually have one and it goes completely away. Acidophilus works wonders for boosting the immune system.
I am cured! Acidophilus!! It worked in only a day or so. I have been taking garlic supplements, eating raw veggies, and drinking organic juices...I felt healthier, but was still getting small boils - until my friend turned me on to Acidophilus. It is a natural supplement of probiotic bacteria ... basically bacteria that eat bad bacteria. I bought it at Whole Foods. My boils are gone & no new ones have popped up!
