Music Healing: Complementary and Alternative Medicine

| Modified on Jun 12, 2012
Music healing and music therapy are increasingly well-regarded as natural paths to healing through activation of the body's own immune and self-regulatory potentials. Music therapy may be undertaken with a registered music therapist or on one's own with CDs, internet resources, or one's own musical abilities.

In its most basic sense, music is often used to relax the patient and activate the healing potential of the parasympathetic nervous system. Simply reducing the levels of stress hormones in a person's bloodstream has a substantially positive effect on short and long-term health. Additionally, music therapy and healing musical tones, harmonic frequencies, and therapeutic recordings are said to heal emotional turmoils and/or activate brain centers that can help address cognitive health issues such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's Disease, aphasia (loss of speech), dementia, mood disorders, etc.

Home Remedies: Music therapy and musical healing can have a substantial effect on pain control, stress reduction, and reduction of blood pressure. Music also stimulates the brain and can positively effect feelings of anxiety, depression, pain, and fatigue.

Hz Frequencies

While the international standard for tuning sets A4 at 440 Hz, the more "in tune" is 432 Hz. There is an incredible amount of mathematical/cosmological/historical signifigance of the 432 Hz frequency. A Google or YouTube search for this will bring many many results, although I suggest the following two websites as my favorite sources for information on this:

http://www.omega432.com/music.html

Music in 432 is more relaxing and allows me to think more clearly. Better yet would be Pythagorean tuning in 432, if you have an instrument which allows for using different temperments. So, if your guitar tuner can go down to 432, I say do it! I have yet to meet a person who prefers 440 over 432. Personally, as a musician, it has been one of the greatest findings of my life. Go ahead and listen to some of your favorite songs in 432 (many of which are on YouTube), and you'll love it. I could write about this forever but I'll let you all do your own research. If I may embed a video, I have a short clip demonstrating the difference between 440 and 432 Hz tunings that you can feel.

Please consider adding Music/Musical Healing as one of Earth Clinics many folk remedies. The power of musical healing has been carried out for many, many years, and is still practiced among many groups globally to this very day. One popular example are drumming circles.

Musical therapies are beneficial to the body and spirit, and are effective on all types of blockages, retention, and stagnation of bodily fluids. Music helps release tension and stress, and revives ones energetic flow. Music also aides in relieving aliments such as gallstones, kidney stones, a number of inflammations, arthritis and joint pain, as well as menstrual and convulsive cramps. Music can help with the easing of the bowels and purification of the urinary tract, and also assist in the moderation of pain.

People don't have to be sick to respond to music. It's relaxing, comforting and soothing.
