I hope you are feeling better?
I would be very interested to know if any ARTHRITIS sufferers out there have experienced any benefit from following the diet as outlined by Doctor Steven R. Gundry in his book entitled "The Plant Paradox - the hidden dangers in "Healthy" foods that cause disease and weight gain".
I came over all flushed, goose-pimpled and excited when I delved into it, as one of his central threads is that some plants have evolved certain strategies to fend off insect and animal attackers (including us) by making us feel poorly or suffer if we are "ill"-advised enough to consume them.
According to some experts, apparently plants evolved seventy million years before insect predators joined in the party and would have been safer to eat before they needed to arm themselves with chemicals that essentially have the ability (amongst other things ) to 'worm' their way through the gut wall in the small intestine and wreak merry havoc inside our blood stream.
You are a reflection of your gut's health it would now seem to be the generally accepted wisdom, although Hippocrates (an ancient Greek fellow) knew this to be true a while ago!! Three cheers for him!
In one of my previous postings I questioned the latest trend to consume all the parts of a fruit, or seeds, or stones. However, I will be a tad unhappy if I have to give up my brown rice in favour of white rice: there's the rub / conundrum. As my elderly Aunt would say "I am on the horns of a dilemma"!
So, more Grist to the Mill as it were! Sorry about that one - never mind eh?
Cheers from Down Under,
This book, written by Dr Burt Berkson, is a must read for people who have serious liver problems, diabetes, neuropathies and heart problems. ALA is a super antioxidant that is both soluble in water or in fats so it has valuable antioxidant action in both these mediums. For instance Vitamin C is only water soluble and can only act in an aqeous medium. Similarly BHT is an anti-oxidant that is only soluble in fats -- so it only has antioxidant action in lipid mediums. ALA can act in both aqueous and lipid mediums.
Apart from Dr Berkson's research and wide use of ALA, the book is well worth reading just for his insights and honesty in describing how hospitals in America are run today. Dr Berkson was a Phd researcher who became a doctor. His first hospital job as an intern, was looking after poisoned patients in the hospital. His very first patients were a couple who had liver poisoning because of poison mushroom ingestion. This couple were told by the specialist doctors at the hospital that they were going to die. However, the young Dr Berkson rang a research friend and asked if there was anything that could help the people in his charge. ALA was advised and his research friend sent him some ALA. Dr Berkson's poisoned patients were healed within two weeks using the ALA protocol and discharged. The special doctors were extremely upset and embarassed because the young Dr Berkson had made them look stupid and proved them all wrong in their prognosis. Dr Berkson was further ordered that, in future, he must follow the recommended hospital protocols and just give the recommended minerals and saline to poison his patients in future
Another batch of mushroom poisoned victims arrived at the hospital. Dr Berkson then used the leftover ALA that he had to cure all these patients too. Dr Berkson then left that hospital and set up his own practice.
The healing properties of ALA -- particularly for the liver -- are fully described in the book. But ALA has much wider benficial action for diabetics, lowering blood sugar, as a super-anti-oxidant, recovering the liver and heart, repairing nerve problems and removing and neutralizing poisons in the blood.
Definitely worth a read.

I was full of praise for Dr. David Brownstein and his book on Iodine but guess what.... I decided to contact him through his site and the answer, through one of his assitants, was that I am not one of his patients so if I want to know what is the difference between iodine and kelp I should go to Belgium and see a doctor they have there! Nice..... So much for being helpful! He gives the idea in the book that he is a caring doctor but in the end maybe he is in it for the money, I don't know! Either you make an appointment, buy his products or else he doesn't care about you in the least! This was the second book by this doctor I bought but from now on I will look for other authors, sorry! I don't mind them making money, after all they work for it but leaving a simple question without an answer?

With Love and Light,
Francsca, and everyone else, I found this ebook yesterday... I have just started reading it. It is called "Mineral deficiency and illnesses!" by Dr. Hisatake Nojima, a Japanese Doctor. Everyone must read it. I have only just started it. I am going to print it out for myself to have.
He talks about how EVERY illness and disease is linked to a MINERAL DEFICIENCY and we could cure everything including cancer through minerals.
I think it also makes sense to find whole super foods because they have all the elements in them in the proper ratios. chlorella/spirulina.
Debbie, thank you very much for posting this link. I think we both seem to be heading down the same path regarding Minerals.
I posted earlier a reference to a book by Marie-France Muller M. D. , N. D. , PH. D. ; called "Colloidal Minerals and Trace Elements --how to restore the body's natural vitality" and it too emphasized that we need almost all the minerals in nature in an ionic form for proper absorption and a colloidal suspension is the best delivery system for the human body.
The book makes particular reference to a natural source in the US which is sold that contains 84 minerals. Here is a quotr from the seller's website:
"Colloidal Mineral Formula Ingredients:Known Essential Minerals: Calcium, Chloride, Cobalt, Chromium, Magnesium, Boron, Manganese, Molybdenum, Selenium, Iron, Copper, Phosphorus, Sulphur, Potassium, Iodine and Zinc, aluminium, antimony, barium, boron, beryllium, bismuth, bromine, cadmium, carbon, cerium, caesium, cobalt, dysprosium, erbium, europium, fluorine, gadolinium, gallium, germanium, gold, hafnium, holmium, hydrogen, iridium, lanthanum, lithium, lutetium, neodymium, nickel, niobium, osmium, oxygen, palladium, platinum, praseodymium, rhenium, rhodium, rubidium, ruthenium, samarium, scandium, silicon, silver, strontium, thallium, tellurium, terbium, thallium, thorium, tin, titanium, tungsten, vanadium, ytterbium, yttrium, zirconium
Minerals listed are typical and do vary from batch to batch. Viewa typical analysis here.
Other ingredients: Purified Water. This product is 100% all-natural, free from preservatives, corn, gluten, sugar and dairy products. No artificial colours or flavours."
Hi Jay, yes I think we are both on the same track. I think foods that contact complete vitamins and minerals are much better than trying to fix one deficiency.
Wheatgrass juice is also great. It contains the most important vitamins and minerals our body needs. Ann Wigmore's book is wonderful. She also did experiments with wheatgrass juice in water and it totally displaced the flouride.
Vitamin supplements now have things added that are not good to take. They deplete the body of important minerals. I would rather take whole super foods than say a multivitamin.
It's all a learning experience. Thanks also for your posts. We are all learning together.
Debbie and Jay, although I agree fully with you I think that the world we live in doesn't allow for eating the food we should be eating, wholesome, healthy foods! In most cases food is completely depleted of everything, even when we think that we are buying the best we can! What I think is that we have no way of knowing. We try to eat good food, go to the butcher instead of the supermarket, try to by organic food whenever we find it, pay more for everything but do we really ever know what we are buying? Not really so I think that although I hate paying high prices for supplements I believe we need them in order to make sure we are not missing essential vitamins and minerals! Maybe the countries you live in are better in this regards, Europe surely is not!
Take France's example.... They hardly seem to grow food here! Everything comes from elsewhere. All they plant here is what gives a lot of money. Here in Alsace is corn, corn everywhere. In the South West where we hope to live in a while is sun flowers as far as the eye reaches. Real food? Well, the import that and you know what is the problem with imported food, first you have no idea how it was grown, then it has to be refrigerated, carried around.... No way you will reap all the benefits, sad but true! And, this is a big fruit region but know what? They let it all fall on the ground because it is too expensive to pick and import it at horrid prices from somewhere else, sometimes very far away!
Hi again Debbie, I will surely read the book you advise! I have added it to my long list of books to read.....
I agree Francisca!
Words to live by. I have been taking Fulvic Acid (per a post by Ted on here a while back). It seems to fill in any gaps in my minerals.... As I do not eat as well as I would like to, or at least like to think I do. ha ha.
Minerals are SO important. It amazes me how much I have learned in the past few years, but also how much more there is to learn.
God bless EC and the WWW!
Hi Carly, I have heard of Fulvic Acid but I have no idea what it is. Is it some kind of multi-vitamin for the mineral class?
CAN YOU RECOMMEND A BOOK? NO, I DO NOT HAVE ANY FINANCIAL INTEREST IN IT:
The Violet Light: The Power That Changes Everything BY PACO ALARCON
IT IS AN AMAZING BOOK !!!
EC: Yes, we post a few book recommendations. Here is the book (published in 2004) on Amazon if anyone is interested.
I want to suggest the book "Grandfather" by Tom Brown, Jr.
It tells the life of an Apache shaman, his travels on foot throughout the Americas, and the different Shamans and lessons in life he learns along the way. This book changed my life, and the author also has other spiritual books, as well as teaches a school where he does offer healing courses.
