Natural Parvo Treatment for Dogs

For Parvo give a few drops of MMS for about three days. See the info online.

I know dogs have been cured with this . Look up MMS website, Jim Humble. They have a section on pets. I use MMS myself. Quite affordable.

Also two of my old cats went off food, lost a lot of weight and I knew from experience this was it. However I tried MMS on them and they, being twenty years old , are doing fine three months later. I never give antibiotics as they cause fungal disease and low immune system where the gut never recovers from the depletion of good bacteria. Om

Activated Charcoal - How to Administer

I just have a quick question. My puppy is 6 months and has contracted parvo. I also cannot afford the treatments so I want to try the activated charcoal. How much would I give him. He's 26 pounds?

Activated Charcoal - How to Administer
Posted by Theresa (Mpls., Mn) on 11/16/2013

Hey Bianca!

You can find AC at your local drug store; aquariums stores have some in a pinch, but its granulated and you would need to use a coffee grinder or food processor to pulverize it into fine powder.

Activated Charcoal works especially well when used with electrolytes to combat the dehydration that occurs with the diarrhea. You can make this recipe at home:

Homemade Pedialyte
4 cups of water (boiled or bottled drinking water) 1/2 teaspoon Morton lite salt (because it has potassium in it as well as sodium chloride) Can use regular table salt if you have to. 2 Tablespoons sugar 1/2 teaspoon flavored jello or sodium free broth to add some flavor

Start with 1 cup of electrolyte solution in a small jar with a lid; add 2 heaping tablespoons of AC and then put the lid on and shke to blend. This goes into a syringe well and then can be placed into your dog's mouth; tip the head back and gently depress the plunger to allow him to drink it slowly.

If your dog has an appetite, you can mix the AC into canned dog food and make that a bit wetter and sloppier by adding the electrolyte solution to the wet food. The virus generally does not kill the dog - its the resulting dehydration that does the damage - so make sure you get those electrolytes down.

Give your dog the wet AC and electrolyte loaded food am and pm for 5 days and up to 7 days. If he is hungry between meals, give him extra AC and electrolyte feedings.

Please keep us posted!

I just found that my 5 week old Chihuahua puppy has parvo. At least I suspect it to be parvo because he was so playful and happy and all of a sudden he just became what looked like depressed. It started on Wednesday of this week so its only been three days, he was just sleeping a lot and it threw me off because it was just so weird. I also realized he didn't want to walk and it looked like he had trouble walking. He's only thrown up three times, once everyday since Wednesday but yesterday is when he officially stopped eating and that was dinner, he ate his lunch and breakfast. He hasn't had diarrhea or any strange things in his poop. Right now im just giving him Gatorade to hydrate him, but I have to use a syringe because he didn't want to do anything but sleep. Since this morning I thought It was really bad because he was so limp and seemed like he didn't want to wake up but after giving him the Gatorade he seems a lot better. I also cannot afford to take him to the vet anytime soon. But is there any suggestions to what else I can do for him?

Hey America!

You can support your puppy by keeping him warm.

Activated Charcoal has worked for folks, and also supplementing with electrolytes to combat the dehydration that occurs with the diarrhea. If you can mix and administer the AC with Lectade - an electrolyte formula for pets, or make this recipe at home:

Homemade Pedialyte

4 cups of water (boiled or bottled drinking water)
1/2 teaspoon Morton lite salt (because it has potassium in it as well as sodium chloride) Can use table salt if you have to.
2 Tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon flavored jello or a little juice (I used sodium free broth to add some flavor)

Dissolve the ingredients in the boiling water and cool before serving. You can also freeze it into cubes.

Mix one quarter teaspoon of the activated charcoal into one half cup of electrolyte solution and try to get your pup to drink it. Try dosing with the AC solution every 3 hours, and keep up with the plain electrolyte solution every half an hour.

Another contributer used Colloidal Silver [available online or even at your local drug store] to cure a litter of pups with Parvo:

The silver was 70 to 100 PPM [the drug store variety is usually 10 ppm - if its the only one you can, get it and use it]. Given twice a day for a week mixed into canned wet food.

Lastly, tell the breeder/owner of the litter and any other folks you know with littermates that your puppy has this virus; its likely the entire litter was exposed and all are sick.

We have a 55-60 yellow lab mix we are needing to treat for parvo. What is the dosage for the activated charcoal/pedialyte a dog her size?

Hey Jennie!

If your dog has good appetite, try 1/c cup into a large can of dog food - this for one meal, and I would feed at least 3x day spaced out and be sure to offer a bowl of electrolyte for her to drink as she wishes.

If your dog is not eating well, try 2 tablespoons into 1-2 cups of electrolyte solution and use a syringe to get him to drink - do this 6x day spaced out. Monitor to make sure your dog is staying hydrated.

I have found that giving Echinacea (antivirus) to all pets in the house works wonders. Used it when I had 20 rescued kittens/cats, couldn't affort to vaccinate all of them, they all stayed well. Putting colloidal silver in the water helps kill any bacteria or other things they might share.

I want to follow up on my first posted letter regarding MMS and Activated Charcoal Helped Dog with Parvo .

I had read on the Net while Joey was sick with Parvo, that adult dog will not get Parvo. That is not true, because while Joey was getting better, our Chow - Shusi, eight years old - started to vomit on Saturday morning. Immediately I gave Shusi her first dose of MMS and two hours later activated charcoal. At 16H00 I gave shusi her second dose of MMS and then at 20H00 again. Shusi had eat well sofar and didn't vomit again. Meantime I decided that I will continue gave Joey MMS to ensure that she stay well.

I make MMS which was five drops of Sodium Chlorite and 25 drops of Citric Acid and gave Shusi three shots of 2. 5 ml syringe on her first dose. Second and third dose was four drops of s/c and 20 drops of c/a and two shot of 2. 5 ml to Shusi and one shot to Joey. This morning, Sunday, I gave the both the same dose as the last one. Both dogs look really good and Joey is running all over our place, which is a good sign for me.

The message here is that adult dogs get Parvo and do not forget them while you are busy to doctor your puppies. Many great thanks to your website and also the contributions of the readers. Keep up the good work.

Hey Hennie!

I am so happy to hear of your dogs recovery!

I want to ask how your vet confirmed Parvo in Max, and how you confirmed Parvo in Joey. What tests were used, if any? It looks like you caught this right away, so important with this disease.

Thank you!

Hi Theresa

The vet did a fecal float test and the symptom of Joey was exactly the same as Max which made me to doctor Joey myself.

Thanks for your interest.

Hey Hennie!

Thanks for the info!

Like food grade hydrogen peroxide, sodium chlorite may not be everone's cup of tea, but in a life or death situation it's an option that merits consideration.

Perhaps rescue groups and shelters that see a high volume of sick critters might do well to have this remedy on hand.

Thanks again!

My new 4 month old puppy named Honey was lethargic, weak, vomiting, hardly drinking water, not playful, and so we took her to the vet and he diagnosed her with Parvo. He told us that she may not love until the next day and that we should let them keep her and giver her an IV and fluids. But we cant afford that, so we had to being her home. I saw your site and looked at the great ratings it had, and I decided to use the Miracle Mineral Supplement and the activated charcoal. But I wanted to know where I could find those two products. I'm giving her the Pedialyte to keep her hydrated tonight and getting the 2 products hopefully tomorrow. I really want good results from this, since I've seen that it has a 100% living rating so far. Also I was wondering since she's not eating should I just be giving her this Pedialyte until she decided to eat some food? Or should I like mix it into some canned food and give it to her through the syringe? One more thing if you have any tips you could give me that would be great, I really am hoping for a positive result with this rather than having the vet treat her.

Also she hasn't started having the diarrhea yet, so I'm trying to stop the virus before the diarrhea comes and she gets sicker.

Pleaseeee helpp. The more the merrier!

Hey Pupplover23!

I have no experience with MMS so cannot offer any advice except to google it and you should be able to find sources on where to purchase it.

I just got the activated charcoal today, but its in capsules and the bottle said it was for gas. Will it still do the same thing?

Ive been giving her the Pedialyte so far and she ate a tiny bit of food and has been drinking some of her water by herself in addition to the Pedialyte I give her every hour and a half. Will this activated charcoal get rid of the Parvovirus in my baby?

thank you so much for your help :)

MMS, Activated Charcoal
Posted by Theresa (Mpls., Mn) on 04/04/2014

Hey Puppylover23!

Yes, the AC for gas is the same thing. The AC works by absorbing the toxins in the GI tract. So follow the directions posted previously and open the capsules and make sure your girl gets some down. You don't say what kind of puppy she is- so use your judgement about how much to use. For a tiny toy breed you might use only one capsule at a time; for a pitbull you might need 10 capsules at a time. What counts is getting some AC down and keep dosing it along with the pedialyte and mix it into the wet food too. I wouldn't worry about her eating, I would get that AC/pedialyte down 3-4 times a day if you can.

MMS, Activated Charcoal
Posted by Puppylover23 (Summerville, South Carolina) on 04/04/2014

She's a mixed breed, but the pet store said based on her current size she would end up being a medium sized dog.

So what your saying is that rather than making her drink the 2 tablespoons of AC, only give her the AC out of about 5 capsules with the one cup of Pedialyte? I've been giving her 2 tablespoons with one cup of Pedialyte. And she's been throwing it up so far.

MMS, Activated Charcoal
Posted by Theresa (Mpls., Mn) on 04/04/2014

Hey Puppylover23!

If this were my dog I would not offer her any food; any food you can get her to eat will either come right back up or run right through her.

I would dilute the AC with the pedialyte and continue trying to get it down her. So if 2 tablespoons of AC into 1 cup of pedialyte isn't staying down, make it 1/2 teaspoon to 1 cup of pedialyte. Try to get *some* AC into her GI tract so it can start working. So try diluting it way down and see if that helps.

If she pulls through - and I am praying for you! - if you take her weight at 4 months and double it you get a ball park idea of how much she will weigh as an adult.

MMS, Activated Charcoal
Posted by Puppylover23 (Summerville, South Carolina) on 04/05/2014

She's started having diarrhea late last night, and I diluted the AC like you said to 1/2 a tablespoon. and she threw it up so I'm going to continue to dilute it to about 1/4 of a table spoon and see how that works.

MMS, Activated Charcoal
Posted by Theresa (Mpls., Mn) on 04/05/2014

Hey Puppylover23!

Consider adding an anti-diarrhea med such as Immodium. Dilute the activated charcoal into the pedialyte until she can keep it down. The most critical thing is to keep the electrolytes up and keep her from getting dehydrated. So if she can keep the pedialyte down when its NOT mixed with AC, try dosing plain pedialyte inbetween attempts to get the AC-pedialyte mixture down.

Make sure she is plenty warm; you don't want her to use up her vital energy trying to stay warm while she is fighting the parvo.

Saline Solution
Posted by Lucy (Fresno, CA) on 05/20/2014

The puppy is small is it the same dosage?

Saline Solution
Posted by Theresa (Mpls., Mn) on 05/20/2014

Hey Lucy!

You have replied to a post that has been inactive for 2 years, so I will offer some advice.

The amount you give varies by the results you obtain. In general:

Most dogs tolerate being given subcutaneous fluids. You can give about 10-20 ml per kg of body weight (5 -10 ml per pound) in one spot (e.g. 50 ml for a 10 pound dog) before you move to another location. It usually takes 6 to 8 hours for all the fluids to be absorbed. Check to see if the previously administered fluids have been absorbed before giving more fluids. Even though the fluids are given on the back, gravity will cause the fluids to accumulate on the belly, so check for residual fluids on the belly before you give more. Check with your veterinarian if the fluids are not being fully absorbed.

I have been giving my puppy 10 mL about every 45 minutes, how do you know it's working? He's still highly depressed and looks close to death and it's breaking my heart to see him suffering from parvo! Please tell me how I'll know, I don't want him to die! I'm giving him saline like you said to do and pepto with water and activated carbon with Gatorade and a little water; he's so sick and I don't know what else to do! Please help me.

Saline Solution
Posted by Theresa (Mpls., Mn) on 08/02/2014

Hey Lauren!

Are you injecting your dog with the saline solution? The advice for the saline was to administer it sub-Q - with a needle just under the skin, to help with deydration.

The other remedies - AC, pepto, gatorade - are to be dosed orally.

If this were my dog and no results yet I would increase the amount of saline administered sub-Q - 20cc's - this if I could not first visit a veterinarian.

Goat's Milk, Raw Eggs, Pedialite

Was the someone a grandma? (Old wives tales are often true.) When my year old daughter hadn't been able to keep anything down in days and our doctor should've been charged with neglect, my mother-in-law called from miles away. She told me to get the white of an egg, add a wee pinch of salt and to stir it (not beat) gently, then to give it to my daughter. It coats the stomach lining and was what probably saved my child. My son's life was saved with goat's milk yogurt so mixing the two together seems like pretty sound advice as we, and even our creatures, are all unique and sometimes respond to what doesn't work for others. Thanks for reminding me. I've got a small pup down with parvo and am getting the egg white now.

I for some reason don't understand the application here. How did you administer the DE?
What does it mean to hit on the palm of the hand?
And where did you Spritz? Sorry but I just don't understand the application of the remedy here. Picking up puppies today and want to be ahead of any problems. Thank you
