Chronic Mucus Remedies

Dietary Changes
Posted by Jance (Ontario) on 08/28/2013

I am a 58 years young gluten-free female with digestive problems for about 7 years. I have since been diagnosed celiac and following that continued to lose weight. I am far below a healthy weight. I started a candida diet 8 weeks ago with some success. Here is a list of issues:

  • Difficulty swallowing
  • When food does go down, I often vomit large amounts of thick bubbly clear mucous
  • Shortness of breath
  • Mouth sores (bleeding) throughout my mouth
  • badly receding gums
  • Eye discharge in the mornings

These symptoms appeared gradually one at a time, with the shortness of breath being last. I have started inhaling H202 this week for my lungs. Would you know what is causing the mucous when I start a meal and how to remedy? Are the mouth sores connected? Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Janice

Try eliminating all dairy products for 2 weeks. Be sure to read labels on any processed foods as it is amazing where you will find lactose products.

The nutritionist told me that if you have inflammation in your gut your entire body is susceptible to infections, and host of other digestion issues so you have excessive mucous for protection. First get the inflammation under control then you can actually absorb 100% of the nutrients when you gut is inflammed you may only be absorbing 35-50% of you nutrients. First, she gave me an allergy test and we removed all the allergic foods and she put us on the GAPS diet and gave me turmeric pills to take and drinking fresh grated ginger tea . But could not drink any herb or caffeine teas or caffeine all of these are diruetic eliminate all sugar, wheat or dairy and soy.

Try a neti pot for your postnasal drip. Google it, it's pretty much rinsing you nasal passages with sea salt water. I use the neti pot with Himalyan salt. It's natural so worth the try! It works!!

Hi Christine, I have read the posts about your loss and want to express my condolences. Magnesium and the B-Complex vitamins are very important. St. John's Wort will also help but I have to open the capsules and take the contents with water.

I feel that when you keep listening to your husband's voice, now, it's going to prolong your healing. You have enough to remind you if you are still in the house you shared. We lost everything we owned in a fire and I was only able to save my nine-month old. I know our two-and-a-half year old went to be the Lord and that is what gave me comfort in the midst of so must pain. I could not look at her pictures for a very long time and I could not talk about her without going to pieces. Even now, writing this to you, I'm a little choked up. You never get over the death of someone you love but time will give you strength so at a later time you can start to listen to the tape again, if that is what you choose to do. We have the news briefs about the fire in 1987 but the memories are fresh when I look at the tape. Some things are better left alone. Our loved ones are not here anymore and we have to get on with life with the hopes we will be reunited. Today happens to be my birthday and my mother died three days before my birthday several years ago. Just to let you know you are not alone in your pain.

One of the most amazing probiotics is Bacillus Subtilis. This saved many men's lives during the war, it was once used as an antibiotic, and still may be in some areas of the world. I think it is best to take several strains of probiotics, I also buy lactose free kefir it is amazing.

Hi Christine, Sorry for your loss. My sympathy and condolences to you. When we lose someone, it feels like our life has become empty but that is not true. God loves us that's why he gave us life and he wants us to be happy. Do the things that make you happy --- hobbies, etc. Personally, I have a Teacher/Master who has shown me a way/technique to be in tune with that Peace within. So, even in times of turmoil I can tune within and be in Peace, then the things outside and around us becomes easier to handle. You can check it out at: wopg.org ---- that means Word of Peace Global. I know grief but not from loss of a person but of myself. There is a email system, sends a daily email of how to go through grief.... I got it for two years. Griefshare... you get an email everyday. They have mention of products but I didn't buy any. Learned a lot about grief. Get a lovely journal and write about each day as you go through it.... Love, JOY

Dear Christine - I would like to express my condolences along with all the others who did so from your Earth Clinic family. You are going through an incredibly difficult time. Crying is part of the healing process and helps release some of the sorrow. May you find peace with the audio recordings of your husband. That is such a beautiful thing to have done for each other. Take care and best wishes. Bess

At watercure.com you will love this information for overall improved health... A humidifier works miracles or a sauna steam room, drink water in the sauna. Potato chips and lots of water. Garlic tabs up to 6 a day with your chips and water. Vicks on q tip up the nose, spread it around and if needed above top lip to open airway. Get some sun if you can and read an uplifting book. Add extra pillow unders yours when sleeping. Steamy shower, cough stuff up and spit it out, blow nose and stay in as long as you can.

If throat is full of mucus put a couple grains of salt on tongue. Too much orange juice will throw electrolytes out of balance and make histamine worse.

Christine, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Many thoughts and prayers are with you, and may our heartfelt sympathy surround and uplift you. You are not alone.

In regard to the mucous problem, I have recently come across some information about how the correct bacteria in the mouth can keep the mouth, throat, sinuses and ears healthy by taking up the space formerly occupied by bad bacteria. Some probiotic supplements containing the common L.Salivarius, also contain BLIS K12 and BLIS M18 that supposedly act like a natural antibiotic by replacing the bad bacteria. Supposedly also helps with bad breath. Makes sense, since many with these problems have excellent oral health routines and yet these problems persist. They come in lozenges and gum. It's a possibility for your problem. Best wishes and take good care.

You loved WELL. I'm sorry about your loss of love and friendship and the sorrow you went through as the illness progressed.

May your days bring a songbird and a ray of golden warmth from heaven with drips of holy rain upon your brow and only the fondest of every memory you have stored.... Let them come.... Let them come... Yes today and tomorrow and the next. Bless Her Lord with the fragrance of Your Love and the atmosphere of heaven let it come... Let it come.... bless her today and tomorrow and the next.

An arrow from the quiver of the Lord , may it pierce your Sorrow with His JOY.

Stress produces fight or flight hormones to prepare the body for action... Stops digestion and slows urination.... Steals water, minerals , hormones and nutrients.

So first make an effort to drink two cups of water in the morning when you awake. Wait half hour and eat something with some vitamins minerals and omegas and sea salt to rehydrate and get those mucus secretions thinned back out. Try to keep hydrating> as you can and getting healthy food in your body.

Set out in the sun and get some vitamin D in your body. Open the window and get some fresh air. Buy a candle and some epson salt and spray your favorite perfume in the air in the bathroom , light the candle , put salts in the tub , put on music that fills your cup and , drink some extra water, eat an apple or fruit or berries in the tub.... Keep tissue near by and let yourself CRY. You are an amazing woman ... who loved her husband... Pat yourself on the back for being there for him and now TAKE CARE OF YOU. Neti Pot

The neti pot is THE BEST invention for excess nasal mucus. I absolutely love mine! I have a horrid sore throat (very, very painful) and horrid cough which is heading into my ears and I imagine eventually my nose. I used my neti pot a few minutes ago and even though I didn't feel stuffy, just a slight bit of occassional runniness I rinsed out some real ugly goobers - ha. Grey/beige booggies the size of Dallas - YUCCK! My ears are presently stuffed up so I'm hoping the neti helps, if not then I will pour a bit of peroxide into them for 5 min and then drain. I've also been doing self lymphatic massage. You can find video's on YOUTUBE to learn how. I've been gargling with cayenne which didn't work for me and I used fresh hot stuff at 90 BTU's; 1/4 tsp in a few TBS of warm h20. Been drinking lemon water with honey and cayenne, or vinegar water with honey and cayenne. Made homemade chicken soup with lots of onions and garlic - I used Jin Shin Jyutsu on myself several times, but still got sick and have been so for three days now. I cough up putrid thick, dense grey/beige gunk in the morning for 20 minutes, and in the afternoon. I am losing my voice from the sore throat and coughing so hard. I haven't tried fresh garlic because I'm out, maybe I'll call a friend in a few minutes to see if she can drop some by. Oops I forgot my son dropped off some essential oils, not sure what they are. He said to wipe around my nose and mouth to breath easier- let's hope for good things QUICKLY!! Also I put a nice warm Castor oil pack on my chest last night and my spleen area this morning.

Any other suggestions folks??? I'm going to Castor pack my spleen area again. And I don't eat sugar or wheat either, no cheese. A little cream with coffee or tea. Hugs, K

Wendy: The herbal combo sounds OK, but you should also rotate to an entirely different herbal combo and then monitor results; pathogen killers like Grapefruit seed, Oregano, Garlic, Neem, and Olive Leaf will surely help. Zinc/Vit-A is critical to the epithelial tissues that secrete mucus. Supplementing NAC helps clear excessive mucus from the body.

Thanks for your reply. I have tried both of these remedies without any success. Whenever I take ACV my blood pressure goes up and I feel quite ill. I don't know why I have this reaction as it is supposed to bring pressure down.

Hi, I found that cutting out dairy milk, using butter insead of margarine and no cheese made a huge difference.

I've also found that using the 2tsb of Apple cider vinegar (with or without the Bicarbonate Soda) give practically immediate relief to sinus problems and my general sense of well being. I drink it with a little hot water or add it to a cold drink for 5 days then take 2 days off and I use it on my salads.

Can't believe I suffered for years and the remedy is so simple. :)

I suffer badly from excess mucous, occasional palpitations and also candida in my body which I have been trying to rid for years. I have been taking a drink of 1 level teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric, and 1/3 teaspoon of cinnamon in half a glass of warm water. I take this after my lunch each day. My query is if this is too much to have mixed together and whether they are counteracting each other, ie due to blood thinning properties will this be harmful to me. I started this about 3 weeks ago and find that I have had a lot more mucous in my throat and also sinus problems. Is this my bodies way of getting rid of these problems? Any information will be helpful.

I've been reading the many posts about chronic mucus in the throat. I've been there - done that for many years. I've seen 4 different doctors without any positive results and tried MANY - MANY Rx's. I've been tested for allergies, asthma and GERD and I'm not a smoker. I not knocking the medical community but they seem to have tunnel vision when it comes to this condition. With the help of some on-line postings and some research, I've come upon some promising results.

Antibiotics seem to be a common denominator. When a doctor prescribes an antibiotic it kills all the bacteria [good and bad] in your system - this is good when you are ill since it eliminates what was making you ill. However the elimination of the good bacteria has consequences. [Please note that I'm not a medical professional so my descriptions/explanations may not be stated well but this is what I've pieced together with some research] There is a relationship in the body between mucus and good bacteria. If the good bacteria are not adequate, the body produces mucus as protection.

With my condition, I separated it to a mucus problem and a post-nasal drip problem. First the mucus - Probiotics are designed to replace the good bacteria. They are not new and have been around for a long time and there is a lot of information available on them - doing your own research is recommended. In my case, I've been prescribed antibiotics many times over the years but never replaced the good bacteria. So I started with a low dose of Probiotic and worked up. [I currently take 3 capsules 2X daily] This has reduced the mucus in my throat a lot - maybe 80% or more. [I'm reluctant to say that I'm cured]

Next the post-nasal drip. This is still a work in progress. Over-the-counter decongestants aren't a solution for me - Sudafed-like compounds mess with my blood pressure but I still use Flonase. So thanks to another on-line posting, I'm trying lemon water with cayenne pepper in it - not a lot of pepper but enough to give it a little warmth. [Yes, I know this sounds like a witch's brew but it's really not so bad] So far, so good! It seems to be working.

I hope this information works. Good luck.

Hi, Sallie. Thank you for your tip. I'm not sure that I can get Allimax here but I'll certainly try out the ingredients that are in it. As for H2o2 I didn't find any negatives with it. I only used it in order to clear the backlog of mucous that weaved it's way onto my lung/chest area. I knew that if I didn't do that I would be looking at a different set of problems down the line. The H2o2 opened the airways enough for me to take a strong healthy cough to clear everything, which I had previously been unable to do. Now I will intermttantly use it if I haven't been able to 'spit or blow' my nasal drips. I have only found H2o2 to be a benefit. Thank you again for the tip.

Sallie, the active ingredient "Berberine" found in Goldenseal is known to inhibit B Vitamins, so it has long been suggested to not use it for extended periods; otherwise it's a great natural antibiotic.

I am hoping that Tricia reads this as she was suffering with mucous in her throat. I take Allimax capsules daily for healthy lungs & got some for my friend who suffered badly with postnasal drip & an irritating cough, she had suffered for years & had tried numerous medications & "remedies". @ Allimax capsules daily the first week & then 1 per day thereafter has fixed the lot!

Allimax contains fresh garlic bulb (but does not make you smell! ) & Golden seal. I was looking at this site for info on taking H2O2 as my son is taking it & bought me some.... Any negatives?

Have had this problen of excesive throat mucus, sore throat, frothing etc, for over two years. I was put on acid blockers, which made the problem worse. In my opinion the problem is caused by fermentation possibly caused by abnormal gut flora. I am now taking probiotics and betaine hcl with food. I am also drinking dandelion tea for its anti inflammatory properties.

In my experience high levels of histamine are possibly involved, which can cause irritation and inflammation. Abnormal gut flora can cause excessive histamine. If you goggle histamine you can see the disruption it can cause. Some foods block the enzyme that breaks it down and others can cause you to produce more. It is a very interesting subject. I am having some success at last. The foggy feeling is gone, as is the blurred vision. The mucus is clearing and my throat is no longer sore. It is early days. I hope this posting can help others, as the medical people are not interested. Good luck to your all and good health.

Joyce, I have recently found a hair remedy solution that has Iodine in it. I have been religiously taking it and my hair, skin and nails have been changed to the point that I am extremely excited! I am telling everyone about it! However, it has not helped the mucous situation. It has been a year that I have had this. I have tried Edgar Cayce remedies, which I am a HUGE believer in, and Chiropractic, to name a few! I am also a Body Alignment Technique practitioner and have used that to try and solve my problem with no luck! This has definitely been a problem for me for the past year. Is there any other remedy that you or Ted could suggest? I would try just about anything to rid myself of this condition!

Frankii - I had the same problems as you (I also read your previous post). What helped me with the mucus was drinking Kefir - but not the stuff you buy in the stores. You need to get the grains that you make at home. I am fortune to be able to use raw milk to make mine - however any milk will work - just make sure that its organic. Years ago, I went to a naturopathic doctor who diagnosed me with a BAD case of candida and parasites. I had ALL of the symptoms you did. People would step back from me when I talked - so I know my breath was BAD!!! I took Diflucan and Nystatin to initially knock out the candida. Then I tried a herbal formula for the parasites. I went thru some major detox sysmtoms but my horrible fecal breath went away for good. Using the homemade kefir has been wonderful for my entire digestive system!!! I cannot recommend it highly enough! I use it in smoothies in the AM or just plain (tastes like buttermilk). Good luck with this Frankii - I can relate to what you are going thru. Linde

Google "potassium iodide" and look through references until you find one mentioning Tahoma Clinic. Pull this one up to read Dr. Jonathan Wright's article about SSKI (saturated solution of potassium iodide).

Since it has many different uses (including one that Dr. Wright didn't mention of using 2 drops of SSKI or Lugol's solution daily to aid your stomach in producing hydrochloric acid to digest your food), I suggest that you print this article to keep on hand for ready reference. I found it to be quite useful in liquefying secretions in the lungs and head to aid in getting them out more easily.

Also, please remember to not dilute your Lugol's or SSKI in chlorinated water to avoid the chemical reaction converting your potassium iodide back into iodine!
