Posted by Netsirk (Dallas, Texas, Usa) on 06/02/2013

I've had reoccurring BV for years. Was just given Clindamycin cream and finished a 7 day course of this. 2 days later got my period which is today. Now waiting to see what happens when I finish my cycle. I am currently taking 1600 milligrams of Folic Acid, 2 pills by mouth of 50 million active lactobacillus cultures. I have been doing this through the Clindamycin treatment. After I completely stop my period I will do the H2O2 douche just for preventative purposes. Will let y'all know if it comes back. Really hoping it won't!!!!! :)

Update: I got off my period and had sex same day. Next day have fishy smell and I feel really let down. Keep in mind this is after 1 week of Clindamycin inserted vaginally, probiotics and folic acid. So I have some probiotics and inserted 2 of them into my vagina today to try to help with this. Then I plan on using the hydrogen peroxide douche as soon as I get home to try to knock this out. I feel like I should be on more Probiotics. I might continue to take 2 50 million tabs a day and insert one vaginally at night. Will do that to tonight after H2O2 douche. Will keep you posted as to what is next.

If I'm still taking my antibiotics (I have 2 days left of them and they haven't helped AT ALL) should I stop and try this? Will it interfere with the antibiotics?

I have had a bacterial infection twice within the past 3-4 weeks. The first time I took flagyl and this time I was determined not to. Two days after I first noticed the symptoms, I inserted VSL#3 vaginally before bed. The next morning I inserted another then put in a tampon because I noticed the smell was slightly still there. I removed the tampon around 11am (do not put in a probiotic capsule followed by a tampon) and noticed the capsule was broken down on the tampon with some of the contents from the probiotic on it as well. I went the entire day at work with no smell and no discharge! That night before bed I inserted another VSL#3 capsule. There was no more odor and no discharge. Through the following day there was a clumpy white discharge with no odor, I am thinking this was the contents of the probiotic that was not totally absorbed. So last night I did a H2O2 douche to flush things out. I used 30ml of purified water and 30ml of H2O2 in a 60ml syringe. I inserted the syringe vaginally while in the shower; without anything attached to the opening, as far as I could get it to go and emptied the syringe. Today I just feel super dry down there which doesn't surprise me. End result is no BV!!!

Subject: Organic Women's Multivitamins with 800 mcg Folic Acid and Soy/Milk free probiotic acidophilus

I'm allergic to a lot of chemicals and foods (including sulfites and sulfates and milk/soy/eggs/nuts/shellfish/most antibiotics), but I finally found an organic women's multivitamin! It's also FREE of gluten/yeast/milk/soy/eggs/nuts/fish shellfish. It's called Rainbow Light Certified Organics Women's Multivitamin which has 800 mcg of folic acid. I'm hoping that finally being able to take a multivitamin will help me in my quest to be BV Free.

Searching for a probiotic wasn't easy either being allergic to milk and soy. But, I found a brand called Bluebonnet that has Milk-Free Probiotic Acidophilus Plus FOS. It is FREE of eggs/fish/shellfish/tree nuts/peanuts/wheat and soybeans! (It's in the refrigerated section. )

I tested positive for BV and am allergic to almost all antibiotics. I'm still suffering from the allergic reaction to the Metro pills. Thus, I am very grateful that I found this discussion group. Now that I have my organic Multivitamin with 800 mcg of Folic Acid and my milk/soy free probiotic acidophiolus I want to start the routine with the hydro/water douche, folic acid and probiotic acidophilus. I'll let you know how it goes. Thank you again for having this group. I didn't know what I would do being allergic to so many antibiotics.

Thanks so much for your post. Can you provide your dosage and frequency? (is there a different amount to 'cure' and then a different amount to maintain proper ph balance and vagina health?)

Douche: 1/2 peroxide and 1/2 water? How often to cure? How often to maintain?

acidophilis: 2 (mg?) morning and night?

Folic Acid: ?

Like many others, BV has been a recurring problem for years, since the birth of my first son who just turned 21. Many years in my 20's of embarrassment, awkwardness with my very patient husband, and ordor and worst of all PAIN. My Dr suggested acidopholis years ago, and I had a few years of clearing, (less sex/ph altering due to my husband being gone for work)and only a slight issue after periods. But then a year ago, he came back home. The recurrance of ordor isn't as bad, but there is pain, especially after sex. I can even feel it when I'm walking. My doctor is supportive of natural remedies, but most recently prescribed metro gel, which then brought a slight onset of yeast. I tested my PH at 5 yesterday, and I have recently discovered a white layer on my tongue.

So I'm thinking this is a systemic PH problem, not just in the vagina. I'm looking for direct feedback about dietary changes - I've read to cut out dairy and suger (dairy always confuses me because isn't yogurt a dairy?) Also, any idea if the combo of peroxide, acidopholis and folic acid will affect the entire body or if the Apple Cider vinegar is a better solution for that (and that how does that play into the dosage for the other).

Any answers anyone can give will be appreciated.

Yes, yogurt is a dairy product, but it's cultured so it contains healthy bacteria, like taking a probiotic. However, yogurt you buy in the store doesn't count. It's full of sugar & not cultured properly/long enough.

I'm so glad to have found this site! Anyway I was reading all the suggestions provided and im almost ready to start my regimen. I started to take acidophillus every morning aside from having fruits and yogurt every morning. I'm aware of the fact that I still need to add the folic acid and the HP douche to my curing process, but there is one Question! I have read in some recommendations from the ladies that you are inserting acidophilus vaginally how you do that? You just use the same pill you are using orally and use it as a vaginal suppository?? AND if I was to use yogurt as an additional weapon to this horrible BV... How do I insert it? SORRY my ignorance but I'm actually new to all these and its also the first time I will use a douche!! I will keep you posted on how this BV battle goes but even now having Acidophillus every morning and yogurt the discomfort is much less than few weeks ago!!

please, please please someone reply back!!! :)

Its so good to see that I'm not alone. I've been trying to get my doctor to understand how frustrating this is. He gave me a Rx for boric acid to be used for 30 days. That got old very quickly. I tried the peroxide, water an tea tree oil douche.... So far so good. I really think I'm also going to decrease my sugar intake and try to eat healthier. For years I thought I was doomed b/c it would always come back. It made me desire sex less. Hopefully I can begin having a normal sex life again. I ran into a very elderly nurse who told me to use peroxide, she says that's what they used on the patients at a lower income hospital when they couldn't afford the expensive medicine. She swears that it works. Thank you to everyone who posted suggestions.

Hi ladies, My name is Rose. I have been having this problem for a year and a half. I thought I was all alone with this problem. I thought that my husband had given me a sexually transmitted disease, so I had a battery of std test and they all came back clear. I then thought I was goin thru the change or that I had some incurable disease. I came across a site that said taking Milk Thistle and Psyllium Husk and the probiotics will cure it. I just started yesterday but I will try the hydrogen perioxide and water douche and folic acid to see if they work.

Ok so I have been doing the combo of H2O2, Acidophils pills and vagina insert and Folic acid for 3 days now. The first I did the H202 douche the smell went away but I had slight spotting. The smell came back yesterday and today I did the douche again and put plain yogurt in my vagina last night. Well, the smell is still slightly there and I got some more spotting!! I'm so frustrated because it seems like so many women are getting good results from this!! Does anyone think that my non hormonal IUD could be affecting the treatment? OR am I not waiting long enough?

Hello, so far I have been trying the combinations I've read about so far. I didn't realize what I had til I did some research this site saved me a trip to the doctor. So far I find that for the most part 1600mcg of folic acid is the norm, but I'm still doing trial and error with the acidophilus because I'm afraid that I don't over do it and put too much good bacteria. Not quite sure I'm doing the douche correctly. I got a medicine dropper and have been putting it in my vagina that way, is that right? I keep reading about this bag-how do you do that? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

I just read the blog about BV and how it should be treated. I continue to have this ongoing BV and I take over-the-counter and medicine prescribed by doctor. It helps for about a week and then it returns. I was told that I couldn't douche anymore and to use unscented not sensitive dove soap. Also, I just was diagnosed with MRSA in 12/2009, and just wanted to know if the MRSA is why I keep having recurring BV?

I'm glad I found this site. I've been struggling with BV off and on for three years now. The first time I took an antibacterial medication which worked almost instantly. The second time (appx 1.5 yrs later) my doctor prescribed me with a gel that did nothing for me so I never went back. It's been over 6 months since I tried the gel and have just been getting frustrated with the odor and discharge! Taking tips from this site has really helped me develop my own regimen. This is what I used and it has worked so far. I douched with 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 cup water twice (two days in between). I also took a women's multivitamin along with 2 tablets of probiotic acidophilus (I take the multivitamin and probiotic daily now). So far, the discharge and odor are gone! Hallelujah! I'll wait to see if it's still okay next month (since I usually notice the odor after my cycle). Question: Does anyone know how prolonged BV affects those trying to conceive?

I was suffering symptoms that seemed to be BV for three months now. I had mucous discharge and smelled like old lady coochie. I came on earthclinic and tried the remedies but the h2o and acidophilus worked temporially. Thanks to Gia from Lancaster, tx bc mentioned mrsa... I had a single boil in Jan of this year was swabbed and it came back positive for mrsa, took the antibiotics that doctor prescribed after that I found earthclinic and started taking turmeric to prevent another boil. Took turmeric for about 2 weeks but I did feel a faster paced heart beat so I stopped taking it in February. Fast forward to now it's august and I'm feeling gross with this BV and I read GIA's comment on how she was just diagnosed with mrsa and her question if the mrsa and recurrent bv were connected. Well I believe they do and thanks Gia for reminding me of the mrsa bc I made the connection with my previous mrsa case and this recurrent bv( 3 awful months)!!!! So what I did is I immediately took 2 homemade capsules filled with turmeric extract. I took two in morning and two at night. I had a bad stomach pain I could feel the turmeric literally fighting off the bad bacteria in my woman parts! I was cramping and my stomach bloated the first day. Took another two in morning on second day.... I got even more bloated and felt more cramps and even was sleepy plus I felt like I had a fever!!! So by now I'm kinda scared like woah!!! Should I be taking this turmeric maybe I'm doing my body harm- but no I continued with another two at night and I felt like I had the flu and I had a light fever and bloating, etc. But now I was convinced that it must be the turmeric and my body fighting off this infection.... The next morning I feel much better. I take one capsule in the morning day three and u won't believe that the smell of the bv and the awful discharge are gone ALL of it I feel like a new woman I can go without panties if I want!! Instead of wearing a darn pantyliner full of nasty smelling discharge. So I'm going to continue with the turmeric probably one capsule twice a day for about a month. I believe that for me the mrsa was connects to the bv. I have never had bv in my life it showed up a couple of months after I became mrsa positive. Mrsa is a horrible "disease" to live with I thought it was gone bc my boil was gone....

BV is most caused due to a a build up of bad bacteria- your partners unclean hands, your own unclean hands, multiple partners, partners not clean body parts, not changing your sanitary products frequently enough, even getting a small piece of paper or something in your vagina, soaps anything that will cause a flora imbalance, the BIGGIE IS STRESS, < a biggie> because when you are stressed your immune system gets weak, and bad bacteria can invade more easily.

The bad thing about having MRSA which I had back in fourth for about a year KOw which I didnt get rid of until I stopped using the prescribed antibiotic soap because gets rid of both good and bad bacteria on your skin and allows the bad bacteria (MRSA) to flourish and causes an imbalance on your skin- MOST people who have MRSA have compromised immune systems, meaning after taking all those bacteria killing antibiotics you need to restore the balance with good bacteria- and rebalance the natural flora in your body- I do not know why doctors do not tell you this- imbalance can lead to gas, bloating, problems going number two, constant yeast infections & overgrowth, heartburn, lactose intolerance, fatigue the list goes on.

SO that is how MRSA is connected to BV. If you get MRSA you have to take those antibiotics to get rid of it. As far as the BV I would try some of these remedies these other ladies are trying for at least 7 days to 6 months or longer to get your balance back right, eat healthy drink lots of water and eat yogurts from trader Joes (health foods store) twice a day with live cultures, try to stay away from heavy sugars, then that will assist in getting your bodies flora back in shape- I know its easier said then done though. Oh and I forgot get exercise to boost your immune system, and remove yourself from stressful situations. "Also be careful when using acidophilus inserts and such they can irritate your skin down there, its already irritated make sure to apply sterile vaseline or something." Some people have a such a problem

And don't stop your regimen even if you have to take antibiotics again.

I have suffered from yeast/bv for decades, and have been prescribed everything. I always take probiotics, mega doses, and have researched all of this for years. Now, after hearing all of these testimonials, I'm trying the H2O2, and will get some folic acid, and more probiotics.

I suffered from endometriosis for years. Jonathan V. Wright is one of many that have an all natural "cocktail" of supplements, including black cohosh, Chasteberry, DHEA, etc. That will help with the symptoms of endometriosis. It helped me for four years until finally I did have to have a hysterectomy. But, I did get some relief, and was very grateful. The docs just do not feel comfortable re: anything alternative, unless they have gone back to workshops, etc. And are open to them.

The supplements suggested by Dr. Wright and a multitude of others are amazing.

I am hoping that I will get some relief finally from BV, after suffering, and I do mean SUFFERING for so many years. I was diagnosed and treated and it just keeps coming back. I am on no sugar, no meat, special bread, spelt is wonderful, and hopefully, after starting the H2O2 douches tonight, I will see some results.

I have always believed there was a better way. God bless all of you for sharing, and thank God for the internet!!!!

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I posted this yesterday but couldn't find it. Hope it's more accessible here.

I was diagnosed with bv 3 years ago and since then I have taken multiple oral and topical antibiotics, all while abstaining from sex, eliminating sugar and refined carbs and taking probiotics and folic acid but my symptoms always returned.

I tried all of the regimines listed on EC for bacterial vaginosis but they all only worked temporarily.

Finally I decided to try oregano oil. I bought it at the health food store. It's also available online. There is an essential oil which should not be used. I used the kind that is blended with olive oil and fit for consumption. I took it orally (3 drops 4 times daily for 14 days) and applied it vaginally (1 drop 2 times a day for 7 days then 1 drop once a day for 7 days). I know that generally it is unadviseable to use this oil vaginally but it was the only thing that worked for me and it was uncomfortable for about 5 minutes a day but completely worth it. It's been 3 weeks now and none of my symptoms have returned. I apply 1 drop internally after sex and take 2 drops daily by mouth. I don't know if it's necessary to continue this treatment but I think I will for the time being just to make sure it's gone for good.

I also inserted a tampon with plain organic yogurt 4 hours after my second oregano oil application and left it for 2 hours daily. (I tried this with the other treatments too so I know this in and of its self wasn't the cure)

This condition has been terrible to try and deal with. Between visits to the DR, prescriptions and various treatments I spent over a thousand dollars trying to treat this without any success. I hope that sharing this remedy will help someone else out there who is still looking for help.

Note! Do not use this cure if you are using condoms as your main mode of contreception - the oil may break down the latex.

Best wishes for good health to all the ladies out there who are suffering with this condition.

I was just diagnosed with this BV crap. This is the second time I have had it. Both times I was unaware I had it because I have no symptoms. I have read over and over that this is the most common vaginal infection out there. Well if it is, then why don't they automatically test you for it during all pelvic exams? If untreated, it can lead to PID. These dr's need to get smart. I refuse to take flagyl for the simple fact that it completely destroys your stomach to pieces and then you are left diarrhea and a yeast infection. No thanks. I just have to say that I am going shopping tomorrow for a few items to try at home! Thanks to all the wonderful women out there that are posting such wonderful advice. And for once I would like a man to deal with this problem just once. They did give me an Rx for metragel. Has anyone tried this and if so did it work? I really don't know what to look for because I honesly don't have the discharge or odor...=/

To Nursemamaof2girls, metrogel is the generic form of Flagyl and is of course applied externally rather than the oral route. I have been on and off of metrogel for 11 years now. All I can say is it worked great at first but over the years I developed some resistance to it in addition to diflucan and monistat and then went on to develope VRE down there after a hysterectomy. Metrogel does work great if you have a good immune system then you prolly wont go on to develope any side effects or resistance. One thing to consider if you are on metrogel/flagyl frequently is that it has the potential to be carcinogenic.

I just wanted to let you all know how I've been since my last post on 1/21/2010. I tell you, i have been dealing with BV for a long time....months. I tried everything listed on this sight and then some. Sometimes things would work for a short time, but as soon as I stopped doing something or taking something the smell and discharge would be right back.
Well, i had almost given up until just recently. I decided to give up douching and taking pills. I begain a no sugar, no carb diet over a week ago. It's really amazing because that very day of givign up the carbs and sugar....my symptoms COMPLETELY went away!! No joke...no aweful smell, no discharge, no itching, no pain....NO NOTHING! I'm totoally back to normal.

I was wondering if anyone else has tried this and has it worked? It's just too much of a coincident. I guess i stopped feeding the bacteria sugar so my body was able to fight back on its own....go figure.

I am soooo happy!! I hope this will work for others and I'd love to hear about it!

I have been fighting yeast or BV for months. The diet was the start for me. The final clincher was when I figured out the importance of keeping the area dry. I use a hair dryer on air after every shower and once or twice a day with a mild wash with unscented soap and water. Dry, dry, dry. My spouse had been suffering with some itching so he also used the hair dryer. He was cured (no more creams) in two days. Hence we are both improving. The diet is a must if the source is in your gut. Hang in there and you will eventually be able to eat more of the old fun foods, but be aware, they are not as yummy as you remember!

Hi ladies, I tried the folic acid, acidophilus, H2o2 douche combo- and I an still very infected. I first tried it 2 or three months ago and i'm still using this combo daily. I was very disappointed. I am 40 yrs old and have had BV for almost 2 years!! this suxx. The most this combo does for me is keep my itchy burning symptoms at bay. I have no odor but I do have discharge. I have seen a great difference in switching to acidophilus from probiotics but nothing - not even drinking lots of water- keep it away.

Here's a question: Has anyone tried Don Quai or St. Johns Wort - since BV may be caused by a hormonal imbalance?

Hydrogen Peroxide, Folic Acid, Acidophilus
Posted by H (Bixby, Ok) on 10/27/2009

It takes a little trial and error to get it right. I have not had BV recur since December. I used the folic acid and acidophilous tablets orally for about a month along with other vitamins but haven't taken them for several months. I do eat yogurt 4 times a week.

About twice a month I douche with half apple cider vinegar/half distilled water (in a small disposable douche bottle). The apple cider vinegar can sting a little so I try not to do the douche too often. Every day in the shower I do a little splash of the following mixture: half hydrogen peroxide/half distilled water/10 drops tea tree oil.

This regimen, combined with vitamins and decent diet, seems to keep the BV (and yeast) away. I really think the apple cider vinegar douche was key for me. The hydrogen peroxide is better for me as a wash. Boric acid didn't work at all.

I just got a cosmetic procedure called labiaplasty to cosmetically correct hypertrophic labia minora. It is a plastic surgery to correct what some may deem a physical problem. However, I think an added benefit will be less tissue to collect bacteria and odor. This is certainly a radical choice and the jury is still out on 'why' or 'if' a woman should make such a choice. I certainly wouldn't recommend it for everybody but for me personally, I think it will help alleviate the excessive moisture and odor that have plagued me for many years. But time will tell.

I'll continue to use my apple cider vinegar douche and H2O2 splash as well.

I have been suffering with BV since Febuary of this year. There was a long chain of events that caused it, and I've been on the Metronizdale (sp) antibiotic probably 5 or 6 times! And just like the storied I've read here, it would always come back within a couple weeks, sometimes worse than the time before! I was so happy when I found this site! I started out with the loading dose of 1600mg of Folic acid and 2 of the 1 billion acidopholis. I also did the H202 douche. I started this yesterday. I took 1200mg of the folic acid and 2 acidopholis last night and also inserted one of the acidpholis pill (not the capsule) into my vagina, and now I'm experiencing yellow discharge, and found much of the grit coming out with I douched this morning. I'm quite alarmed by it. I'm afraid I will get a urinary tract infection. Does anyone know if I can try to continue this remedy without this step? Or should I be using the capsule instead of the pill? Also, how long should it take for you to feel any results? I'm not quite sure if this working for me yet, so I'm going to continue the remedy without inserting acidpholis until I hear back from someone. Does anyone have any advise??

Jessea: I got the same reaction each time I inserted probiotics (capsules white powder). Always wondered how it triggered so much debris, and why it was yellow - but it seemed to help each time if I continued with it. Not much help I know - but at least the results are consistent :-)

Use Grapefruit Seed Extract instead. Take 10 drops (put in an empty capsule) or 8-10 drops in 16 oz. water (will be bitter -- that's why I use the capsules -- buy them in a health food store) 3x daily (space them out). Also douche with the GSE (5-6 drops in a douche bag) 2x daily. It will get rid of it -- but do NOT stop when you think it's gone. Continue a maintenance dose of 1-2x daily (orally) for several months to make sure. Also -- very important -- take a pro-biotic like Acidolphis (or I take a probiotic that has 3 different types in it -- more expensive, but MUCH better than the simple Acidolphis alone) Get one that is refrigerated, so that the bacteria are still very alive. You can take it along with the GSE -- just space it 2 hrs. after (and before) the GSE so the GSE will not kill the good bacteria) I have had this problem several times and, believe it, it works! I know it seems complicated -- but it's worth it! Good luck!

I've only had BV once in my life, thank God, but I cured myself of it by douching with Colloidal Silver. Luckily, I had access to a Colloidal Silver generator, so I douched with a quart of 10ppm solution 2 times per day (morning and before bed) for 1 week. After the week of douching, I inserted probiotic caps morning and evening for 1 week to re-establish the proper vaginal flora.

Thank you for describing your situation. I too am in my 30's and have cronic BV. I am new to this site and think that I will try some of the home remedies, but have a few clarifying questions:

I would like to know - what are the pills that individuals are inserting and taking orally? I have seen things life Folic Acid? I have never taken even one vitamin, but am assuming I can find this in the vitamin isle? Is this the fill that is taken both orally and inserted, or am I missing something?

I have been told by my OBGYN that I am missing acid - why wouldn't vinager and water douche work? I thought that vinigar was an acid? I will try the peroxide.

I am getting these things probably once every three months! It is killing me! I am sexually active, but with only one man - and he definately would not cheat! Do you think that getting older would have some sort of effect? I mean - is my body changing that much???

Just to clarify with the yogurt? You just insert a certain amount? How much and how frequent?

Thanks!!!!!

Also ladies for those who weren't aware keeping your vagina acidic is key for recovery. Apparently drinking 100% cranberry juice no sugar, sour and tart but delicious, can help your pee become acidic and encourage your vagina to do the same.

And I second the folic acid, lysine, multi Vite, probiotic rounds. Especially the PALEO DIET like recommendation. I think together that is an unstoppable combination. The raw diet I bet would work the best. It is used to treat major illnesses.

I am also exploring one garlic capsul in my vagina, punctured with a fork several times, instead of boric acid. I'm only one night in but I plan to use a probiotic and coconut oil during the day to provide moisture and replenish good bacteria.

I'm still in my experimental phases but I'm trying to avoid the antibiotics.

I also made a apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil spray that I spray onto toilet paper to cleanse with and I spray down in the shower instead of soap or anything.

I hope these small tips help. Definitely read articles..Oh I also came across a study where they used activated charcoal suppositories or activated charcoal tampons... must have been dosed by a professional but definitely worth looking into. I believe it restores the bodies PH balance.

We are all becoming so much more knowledgeable..it hasn't been fun but look at the bright side. We have new found home remedies, intellegence, strength and love for our bodies.

Thanks for your thoughts on the matter. I enjoy the encouragement and options!

I've been having problems with BV for almost a year now, I got pregnant back in January. I've never had problems with vaginal infections before last year, and I've been with the same man for 4-1/2 yrs. Is it possible he cheated and that's how I got this? I think it is possible, but what can I do without proof or confirmation. I'm nervous because I'm due in about 2 months and I'm still not rid of this nasty infection. All I really have is discharge. I've never had an odor with it, rarely get itchy, but keep testing positive, AAAAA! So after stumbling on to this website I'm hoping at least one of these regimens will work for me especially since I won't be douching, because I don't want any complications, whether I deliver naturally or if I have to have another C-section. if anyone knows of or has tried an alternative to douching, it would be much appreciated. Thanks to all you ladies for sharing your experiences, and giving the rest of us hope and courage to keep trying.

I came across this site after a sneaking suspicion I was dealing with BV again. I'd only had it once before after sex with a new partner years ago, and back then I was prescribed metro and was fine, plus I dumped the guy. No problems for 2 years after. I'm positive I got it from a new sex partner, again, and I dumped him fast. It wasn't to the point where I was smelling like a fish tank before my last period, but there was a distinct sour smell and alot of drainage and after my period was over... Yuck. My new insurance isn't effective yet so here I am.

Here is my own version of the treatment per the other ladies' suggestions:

800mg Folic Acid, twice daily.
A 3% peroxide-soaked tampon inserted every evening for about an hour while lying down.
Acidophillus (the refrigerated kind) - three 135mg tablets at least twice daily.

I've been doing this for a week and it seems to be working. Last night was the first time I didn't sound like a soda pop fizzing "down there" from all that gunk the peroxide soaked tampon was attacking. I took the tampon out and it was CLEAN. No gunk or anything stuck to it. I have some minimal drainage but no smell, and I feel comfortable most of the time. I'm going to ease off of the peroxide for the next few days but keep up the pills.

This website is really awesome - I'm so glad I found it. Y'all need to keep up the re-posting because I need to know if this works long term or if I need to tweak it. I'll definitely re-post if I come up with anything new. I thank God for all of you and for Earth Clinic!!!

Hey ladies, I just wanted to add that I had tons of sex with other guys in between these occurrences with no issues, so I'm CONVINCED the guys I contracted from were "carriers". From what I've read, they can "try" to treat the guy but it usually doesn't work. If you're married and getting it over and over, or suddenly get it and then keep getting it over and over after treatment, I'd look DIRECTLY at your man as the cause. Granted, he may not have done anything more than change soaps. Make sure he's not unwittingly causing your issue, or worse, MAKE SURE he's not messing around!!!! I know this post is long enough already, but here is my proof: One of my boyfriends I was with for about 2 years, no problems. We split up. My next boyfriend, no problems during a 7 month relationship. We break up. I stay celibate for a while. My ex dated around, a couple of years go by and we end up together again. BOOM, there goes the BV. I had it IMMEDIATELY. He got it from someone and guess what, nothing happens to HIM, just to ME. Needless to say, we are now "JUST FRIENDS" and I pray to God my next guy gives me no issues, and he's the last guy. A good man will make sure you stay healthy. I was pissed at my ex at first, but then I thought, dang, this could have been alot worse. We discussed it and he's looking into trying to get some treatment but Dr.s have basically told him "good luck, and that'll be 200.00". This was a wakeup call. Ladies, take a stand and tell your guy he's off limits if you keep having issues. Funny how a man's hearing gets better when he's cut off. Take care of yourself first, you deserve it.

I have been fighting BV for about 2 years off and on, with no success. I am so thankful for this website. I have done the 1/2 h202 1/2 water douche and it seems to be working. I am experiencing dryness during intercourse, and wondered if there is something I could use naturally as lubrication. I'm afraid to do anything to upset the balance right now. Any input would be greatly appreciated. God Bless.

Try melting coconut oil and pouring about 1/4 inch deep into a silicone (or supported paper cupcake cup)--then refrigerate.

Break this resulting solid coin shape 1/2 or 1/4s. When you're ready to use it, you can insert a few minutes ahead of time...And ENJOY!

Do use care to protect your linens.

Do NOT use coconut oil if you intend to use the usual latex condoms. Oils break down latex. If you are using another form of birth control, or sheepskin condoms, then coconut oil is fine to use. So is olive oil, which may be cheaper.

Hello, thanks for the website. I like most women have suffered from Bacterial Vaginosis for the past 2-3 years. Nothing worked until I tried the Hydrogen Perixide Douche. It's been almost 4 weeks and I'm great.

After reading the stories I decided to give it a try. One night at about 7pm I emptied a summer's eve douch bottle, filled it with 50% H202 and 50% water. Inserted into my vagina and held for 30sec. I took 2 folic Acid pills (400mcg) along w/2 Acidophilus pills by mouth. By morning the smell was gone. I did this for three days straight. The smell stayed away for about 7 days and then it came back. So I repeated the steps, only this time I inserted 2 Acidophilus pills (pill form) into my vagina immediately after douching. I douched for 3 days straight. I stopped douching but continued to take pills by mouth. It's been about 4 weeks and I havent had a problem since. Hopefully I am cured. I continue to take the pills by mouth. I will give an update in 1 month.

I have been suffering for 5 years with BV. I started doing the H202 douche 1x/day plus 800 folic and 2 capsules of acidophilus. It is the first regimen that has worked and could not be happier. I am so petrified of the BV coming back that I have been doing this regimen for about 2 months never missing a day. I am now planning on getting pregnant. Does anyone know if the this is a safe regimen to continue while pregnant?

I would recommend that if you are trying to get pregnant to only continue the folic acid. Or start taking a prenatal vitamin since they contain 800 mcg of folic acid anyway. Good luck!

Hello everyone. I am glad to be posting this info on this website, since I thought I was the only one with this problem. I have suffered with this problem for amost 15 years, until I came across this website. I just wanted to say that I did the Peroxide Douche only once (50%water/50%Peroxide) and then inserted 1 Acidolphilis pill (not capsule) in to my vajayjay for 7 days. I bought Folic Acid pills (500 mg) and I take 2 daily--one at night and one in the morning. I do the acidolphils pills the same (by mouth). I have been doing this for a month now and I have not have one issue, no smell, no itching, no burning, no nothing. I want to thank whoever made this website. I also wanted to add that if you do decide to douche more often please make sure you insert an acidophilis pill ASAP. I think that is the problem with the girls who are mentioning there problem is getting worse because you flush the bad and the good out when you douche--but you need to replenish the good ASAP. Thank you all for your honesty and help. I will keep you posted (30 days from now) And to the girl who says it burns when she uses the monistate--that means you don't have a yeast infection. Its either BV or something else. But, following this procedure is supposed to help trichonomisis too.

WORKED TEMPORARILY

I too have been a suffer of BV for 3-4 years now off and on. I have been to the Doctor billons of times for the same thing its gotten to the point I dont have to go and get an exam just have the Doc call me in a presrciption of the metrogel. I can't take the metrodazole pills because they taste like poison if you get my drift and I'll eventually throw them back up. Well the metrogel would clump my discharge up like I had a yeast infection and it would take forever for that to drain out of my papya.

So desperately I googled Cure for BV and stumbled across this website.

I first did the hydrogen peroxide douche which only worked temp. for two days by itself, I then went and purchased the 2 billion live cell acidphilus and 800mg folic acid. I douched again by putting two opened capsules (freeze dried) acidphilus pills mixed with the peroxide, then took orally two more acidphilus capsules with 1 800mg folic acid pill. To much my surprise it works, but just as soon as you miss a dose the discharge is back and few days later here comes the smell. So I guess I better not ever stop taking the pills

Are there any women out there who feels the douching makes it worse after the second or third day. Or if there are any women who has not tried the douching method and only did the pills and got good results. Also, do I have to take these pills for the rest of my life for I am not a good pill taker. But being how sick and tired I am of this dredful BV I guess I will take the pills everyday (one of each) and douch every other three days. What is the right amount of times to douche per week?

I have bv caused by taking too many antibiotics and I haven't tried the douche. I learned when I was 16 douching is extremely bad for the ecosystem of the vagina and for that reason, I just can't seem to bring myself to do it. I am taking the folic acid and the probiotics. I am also taking epsom salt baths and cleaning out the area manually. I am also using the yogurt method (with a turkey baster lol). All of these things really seem to help! Diet is a big thing also. My bv gets worse if I stray from the diet I've been on. No sugar, candy, soda, artificial sweetener, bread, or wheat. Sorry I don't have any input on the douching method. Good luck :)

WORKED TEMPORARILY

I have been wondering the same thing... It seems that the pills work on and off, sometimes it keeps it at bay and others it doesn't seem to matter how diligent I am I still have the horrible odor return....

When I first did this I would do the douche 3 days in a row and then stop for a while but then it would come back a week or maybe 10 days later if I was lucky -sometimes worse, sometimes just the same. I felt that was too many times to do it in a row (I tried to listen to my body) so I only started doing the douche when I felt another round of stickyness come back and when I started to smell myself again.... But this time around it just doesn't seem to disappear?? I have done 3 douches so far (once a day) and I have been doing the pils for at least 10 days.. Is it possible that your body will also grow resistant to this method.... PLEASE if anyone knows what to do, I am desperate...

If it has not worked it is mostly likey due to too much sugar and carbs in your diet. It is recommended that you abstain from carbs, sugar and caffiene to stop feeding the bacteria. Thats why it might back a vengence.

I have been dealing with BV for years. I get it once a month no matter what and it is always right in the middle of my cycle. I have tried every medication under the sun. Flagyl has gotten to where it no longer works for me...my body has gotten immune to it I assume. The creams that you have to insert for days on end, make me feel terribe. I had reached my wits end and stumbled upon this website. I was skeptical at first and didn't get to excited. However I did go out and purchase the accidlophoulus, folic acid and Hydrogen Peroxide. Been taking the pills as well as doing the peroxide douche twice a day for 6 days. IT REALLY DOES WORK!!! I am just wondering if it will continue to work or if I can possibly get immune to this as well?? I urge any woman with BV to at least give this a try. I have also read that hydrogen peroxide can help cure yeast infections as well. Has anyone tried this and found it to be true?

I am so happy that I stumbled across this site. I am 24 and have been suffering with bv for 9 years. I have been to the doctors millions of times and given anti-biotics that only work temporarily. I was fed up and couldn't take it any more so I decided to find a home remedy. I came across this site and I have been using 800mg folic acid 2millionparts acidphilius, and the douche that was recommeded and it is working great. The smell is gone, no heavy discharge, and no itching. I would suggest any women tries this before running to the doctor.

I feel so happy that i stumbeled upon your webiste in a desperate search to find a cure for bv, i've been suffering with this curse for 2 yrs, and was embarrassed and afaid of going back and forth to the doctor. and taking antibiotics which work only for a few mths, i am about to get married in a few mths and god knows i think it would have ruined that chance and part of my life , so i read this website, went directly to shoppers drugmart and got 1000mcg folic acid, and a bottle of hydrogen peroxide 3%. i got home and immediately soaked a tampoon with the hydrogen peroxide, and inserted it for 2 hours, and took 2 folic acid tablets, and to my surprise in just two hrs the scent and white discharge has just disappeared. i keep going to the washroom every 5 minutes to see if its really true. i'm so overwhelmed, i can't wait for my fiance to come home, and for us to do a little romancing.and it least i will never have to hear from his mouth again that " your ex boyfriend sure left a bad smell on you" that's the most embarrassin thing someone could say to you

Read all about the tampon in HP, tried it ... question! How the hell do you get a tampon which has expanded in the 1/2 HP & 1/2 water up there? Maybe you guys used what we call tampax (which is in the cartons) and not tampons. Would love to know your secret ... then I could finally put an end to thic BV!

Hey Shonni!

To wear a HP saturated tampon........

You will need an enema kit or squeeze type bottle with small diameter tubing or large syringe with something akin to aquarium tubing would work well too.

You insert the dry tampon, and then use whichever appliator method you choose to suck up the solution, and then insert the hose into your vagina and release the solution. The tampon will absorb the fluid and expand - voila!

You may need to do a few test runs to determine just how much solution it takes to saturate the tampon without having it leak out if you intend to wear the saturated tampon during the day/walking/seating/standing.
