I love what hydrogen peroxide does for me! I have a hard time with ear pain, I don't have that much ear wax but I do have ear pain, so I take a small dropper, (barbie doll baster, the kind that diabetics use for glucose checks) and fill it up and use it in my ears, it feels good and it's relaxing and gets rid of the pain. I also sometimes notice that I do have ear wax on the cotton ball. I have used this for about 5 years now, never had a bad experience.

You are correct, the key is to be patient and continue to put a few drops of the hydrogen peroxide in the ear twice a day for possibly up to 2-3 days (depending on how clogged the ear is). My right ear was TOTALLY blocked/clogged to the point where I could barely hear in it..... I used this procedure along with a few warm drops of olive oil, each time I let the liquids drain from my ear and then follow with flushing the ear out with some warm water using the bulb syringe..... Well, like others are saying, on the 3rd day that I did this I was flushing my ear with the warm water and 2-3 big blobs of earwax fell out of my ear (disgusting, I know) and now I can hear fine again! The key is to be consistent and I promise you this procedure will do the trick! I was planning to go to a ENT doctor to help me but now I know I don't need one! Thank GOD! I feel so much better because it was very frustrating walking around with my ear clogged!

Has anyone used hydrogen peroxide for ear wax recently? Was it effective? I have read many of the older EC posts on the subject and wonder if anyone has any suggestions to add. Just doesn't seem to work for me, but I'm hopeful that it still might. Thanks for your input and suggestions.

I had a blockage show up this morning and called my doctor. He suggested using H202 in a similar method as outlined above but also included using a warm water irrigation after every application of peroxide. Basically I put a few drops of peroxide in the ear and let it sit for 3 minutes. The ear was then irrigated with 2 bulbs of water from an infant nose cleaning bulb*. This was repeated 3 times with each time having a large amount of debris being washed out of the ear. On the third time a huge chunk of wax was washed out and my blockage was cleared. I was told by my doctor not to do more than 5 repetitions per ear a day and if I couldn't clear the blockage in 3 days that I would need to come in and have him extract the blockage. He did say that if I wanted I could use the warm wash as much as I wanted as that would eventually clear the blockage if it had been weakened enough by the H2O2, but it might take a long time. *He also suggested that a 50cc or larger syringe could be used and might be easier than a bulb.

I just tried the experiment you suggested regarding the dissolving of ear wax using hydrogen peroxide. I took a q-tip which I had used to clean wax out of my ears (it had a fair amount of wax on it). I filled a small glass with about two or three teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide and put the q-tip in the glass. Twenty minutes later the wax was still there, with no sign of dissolving at all. Needless to say, I'm not convinced this solution works.

EC: Sorry it didn't work for you -- the experiment works for us every time!

I used to work in a large hearing aid place and the only thing the audiologists would have people clean their ears out was with Hydrogen Peroxide. Ten minutes in each ear or put in at bedtime with a cottonball so that it won't get on your pillow and NEVER clean your ears out with a q-tip. It only pushes the wax in further.

Quick Hit: Spry xylitol gum cures chronic ear infection

Here is a totally NON-scary super-easy *too-good-to-be-true-but-it-works* cure for infection of ears, throat, or gums or for stuffy nose. It can even cure a strep throat. Could put lots of *specialist* doctors out of business. Cure: xylitol gum or candy, made by the company Spry in peppermint or spearmint, works like a miracle. I have tried some other brands of gum/candy containing Xylitol that do not seem to work as powerfully for me, but if you cannot find the Spry brand xylitol chewing gum and peppermints (available at the Vitamin Shoppe, Sprouts, and online) you might try other brands. I do not know if it is the added mint that makes this brand so much more effective for me or what, but it still blows my mind every time I use it, how effective it is and how time and how much money is wasted on our U.S. Health crisis sheerly because no one knows about/ uses the easy, simple remedies.

God bless everyone on this page and this site! Note: xylitol is not as creepy as it sounds - it is actually birch tree sugar with a Frankenstein kind of name, and was developed as a sugar substitue during WWII in Finland. It can cause stomach gas in some people if you eat or drink a lot of it in beverages or baked goods (using it as sugar substitute in the recipe), but for chewing gum/ peppermints to get rid of ear infection or sore throat it should not be a problem. I would try the gum to start with. In fact xylitol gum was initially brought to the U.S. as a cure for kids with chronic ear infections. If you buy it at the Vitamin Shoppe store, ask the clerk for the *online price* at check out and you get a huge % discount. It's very affordable; under $8 for a bottle of 60 or 100 pieces or so. Xylitol also has many other positive *side effects*! Google it and see!

I worked in cabinet shops from 1983 to 1998, and I used to get ear infections from sawdust. After I went to a doctor that used a water pick on my ear I heard about using Hydrogen peroxide. As soon as I felt an infection coming on, I would flush my ear with it. The pain would normally go away with in 24 hours.

I've used hydrogen peroxide for years to "bubble" my 5 sons' ears. One of my sons had deeply impacted wax so bad that an ear Dr. wanted to operate on him to remove it. I asked him if there was another alternative and he said we could try cleaning his ears with one of those over the counter kits.We opted for daily syringing of the ear with 3% hydrogen peroxide, and rinsing with a diluted apple cider vinegar solution afterwards to replace natural ph to the ear, after several days black rocks 1/8"in size began to come out of his ear! We worked on his ear daily for about 3 weeks. Upon returning to the Ear Dr. he gave him a clean bill of health. He was 3yrs. old then and is 20yrs. old now and has had no ear problems since!

I have used hydrogen peroxide successfully in the past to eliminate ear wax. Only recently did I begin to use it as a mouth wash. The cavity I had almost immediately ceased to hurt after I began using the hydrogen peroxide. Another form of oxygen therapy is biomagnets. Albert Roy Davis discovered that the North pole of a magnet has the opposite effect of the South pole. North pole energy increases the amount of oxygen in the body too.

I work with special needs teens, one of the clients kept playing with his ears. I took him to the doctor and his doctor told me about this technique. It worked wonderfully and my client actually ENJOYED it. He was giggling so much that another child wanted to do it too! (he also had build-up). He asks for "Tickles in my ear".

I have used hydrogen peroxide many times in the past 6 years to dissolve ear wax and had fabulous results! Last week, however, after doing my usual treatment of 10 minutes per ear, I awoke the next morning with pain in my left ear at the jaw bone. It was extremely sensitive to the touch! I thought I had an ear infection and called my doctor for a prescription. Took the ear drops and antibiotics and the ear pain did not go away. A few days later I actually went to my doctor's office for a visit and he saw no sign of infection! What he suspected was jaw pain from TMJ that was somehow triggered by the hydrogen peroxide treatment. I slept without a pillow for the next few nights and my jaw pain immediately went away. Thought your readers might like to know. Thanks.

I used the peroxide for ear wax. Which was causing me to have extremely intense headaches, I imagine the wax wasn't allowing the pressure any room to flow out. So I read here on the site to try to remove the wax by using the peroxide. My mother have taught us to use peroxide for cleaning the ears, for as long as I can remember. So when I read here that you need to allow the peroxide to not only dislodge the wax it needs enough time to dissolve as well. That was the key to my pain, i wasn't allowing it enough time. So I then went home and layed on my side for about 40 minutes continuing to add the liquid as it dissolved. This did the trick! I feel the lady who did not agree probably did not allow enough time. Because it will dislodge and leave the ear feeling really uncomfortable if it's not completely finished dissolving.

Hydrogen peroxide helped with my ear wax problem. I used a medicine dropper and place about 3 or 4 drops on the blocked ear while lying in bed sideways, with the infected ear facing up. The peroxide will cause fizzing, wait till it subsides then place more drops. Repeat the procedure for about 10 minutes. Then turn to the other side lying down to drain any excess liquid in your ear. The key to this procedure is patience. Mine takes about 2 days before I was able to hear properly again and the wax did not just drain in one go.I waited for about 8 hours before repeating the procedure. Also, I did have to use an improvised ear cleaner to get out some of the dissolved wax in the ear. Oh and you may try to use the hand palm trick like a sucking cup on your ear till the blockage clears. Again this treatment requires patience. It does feel good and ticklish when the peroxide bubbles in my ear.Hope this helps.

When I was a little girl, I remember my Mom using hydrogen peroxide to clean the excess wax from my Dad's ears. He would lie on one side and she would pour a capful or so into his ear. Once the "bubbling" subsided, she placed a folded hand towel over the ear and had him turn over to the other side. Once both ears were done, she would gently dry the ear with a tissue. We never used a QTip in the ear!

After having ear blockage for a week . Due to ear wax buildup, I had suffered enough . In the past I have sen a doctor and they irrigate my ear with H2O. I read all the positive comments on this site and thought why not try the Hydrogen peroxide method. IT WORKED and it only cost me a Loonie (1 dollar) I am now relieved of the pressure in my head also the loss of hearing. I would highly recommend this method. It was safe, inexpensive and it worked.
