Although PMS is supposed to happen the week before the period, i only get this way the day before and the first 2 days of my period. When I'm on the rag there is no terror as fierce as mine. I get terrible cramps, my mood changes rapidly, and i feel antsy all the time. The only thing that calms me down is drinking soy milk (hot or cold). It could be the B-vitamins, it could be something in soy, or it could be the protein. Another post on this topic said that women should avoid soy because of its phytoestrogens. For me, anyways, soy works wonders. It could be genetics. I grew up eating alot of soy (tofu, edamame, natto, bean juice, kinako...) and I come from a Japanese heritage. Maybe East Asians are less prone to soy-side effects?

Soy is not for everyone. There are wonderful benefits, however there are also some hidden dangers.....it causes anemia among other things and can also cause hypothyroidism.

Hello Mika,

Have you ever taken a magnesium supplement to get rid of the PMS symptoms? This mineral is one a lot of people are deficient on and it does a lot of different things in our bodies from blood pressure, heart rates to PMS symptoms decrease!

I have been taking ACV every morning for about a year now. My hair is wonderful and so thick, nice even skin tone, keeps my weight down and fights my seasonal allergies, also keeps me regular! I take it in warm water every morning with a spoon of honey and a spoon of Bee Pollen (Helps with Immunity!). I love the stuff! Also, I visited the doctor over the wked and my teeth are perfect! (His words). So I havent had an enamel issue. Though I have read that you should take it alone as it can burn your throat and other things on the way down due to its acidity?

Nay from Podgorica, Montenegro; ACV has same ph as a soda...... I think the worry is more scare tactic than anything. I do the ACV tonic every morning.

Oil Pulling

I've been oil pulling for a little over two months now. Here are some of the things that OP has helped me with:

1. PMS - my cramps are almost completely gone now! I used to live on ibuprofen but I didn't even take it this time.

2. Bloating - non-existant

3. Gas - nearly gone!

4. Extremely tired in the mornings - gone.

Oil pulling is one of the most amazing things. I wish everyone could learn about it!

I stopped and started using ACV again, I noticed that when my monthy cycle came, it was lighter than usual, no PMS either, I was pleasantly surprised, no cramping, nothing. I am hoping that since I have started back on the ACV my blood pressure will be regulated again, and my heart palpitations will disappear.

Hello, I suffer terrible PMS in the winter when there is no MELON available. BUT in the spring/summer I eat plenty of MELON and it really really works for PMS that usually puts me in bed for an entire week!!

Soy

My husband and I started to make smoothies about 2 weeks ago every day, adding soy/green protein powder to the fruit smoothie. Well, this month I had the worst PMS symptoms ever! My breast size increased by one cup size (at least), I was terribly bloated and the bottom left side of my left breast had a constant shooting pain. As the symptoms got worse as my period approached, I realized the soy powder was probably causing the side effects. I continued to have my daily smoothies, but substituted rice protein in place of the soy powder. 2 days later (but 4 days before my period) all the symptoms disappeared. I think women should be very careful with soy as there is clearly a hormonal response. The soy powder I used was Alive by Nature's Way with non GMO soy. If I kept it up, who knows about truly serious side effects like breast cancer? Perhaps organic soy wouldn't have produced the same side effects.

I actually think I went through something similar to you. I had used that same powder in the past and my PMS symptoms have just been seeming to get worse each month. After a food intolerance test revealed that I had a severe intolerance to SOY I cut it out and the pain I had under my left breast has gone away and my breasts are not swollen or tender like they usually are this time of month, so I'm hoping that next month some of my emotional symptoms will go away too from eliminating soy.

Evening Primrose Oil

I had killer menstrual cramps all my adult life. I am now 38 and was fed up with cramps that consumed my life for about 2 weeks each month. I would get cramps before my period and for about 5 to 6 days during. I dreaded the thought of getting my period. 1200 milligrams of prescription ibuprofen every 4 hours was not helping me anymore. My liver and stomach was overloaded from the drugs. I couldn't function at work or at home. I was high all the time from the ibuprofen. I would have to take days off from work just to get through my period. I came across an article about evening primrose oil and how it can dramatically ease cramps and pms. Well I decided to try it not really thinking it would work, after all I had tried every remedy I could find. Nothing helped. Because there is cancer in my family I would not take birth control pills to ease the cramps. I started taking evening primrose oil 2 weeks before my period. 1 with every meal. The day my period was supposed to start I upped it to 2 pills with every meal. Well my period came and I didn't even know it. NO cramps. I didn't get pms or painful breast either. I didn't even have to take ibuprofen. I am shocked!!! This is the first time in 26 years that I have no cramps. I don't know how it works, but for me it is a miracle worker. I wish I knew this years ago. I have lost so much time laying in bed or on the couch from cramps. I am so happy I found this remedy. It has changed my life.

i have to say that the most amazing experience i had with apple cider vinegar was when i used it on my swollen breast. sometimes my breasts swell a bit with pms, but this time my left breast swelled and continued to swell over the course of 3 months. it was weird and painful. after reading on the internet that acv helps with swelling, soaked a washcloth in diluted acv and secured it with a piece of plastic and a sports bra and slept with it on. the next morning the swelling was completely gone, it didn't hurt anymore, and never happened again since. horray!

I started taking the apple cider vinegar to lose weight. And accidentally discovered it cures PMS too! Usually I feel lousy the week before my period with bloating, acne break outs and a really bad mood. I used to count down the days to my period, becaus I knew then I would feel some relief. The past couple months my period has snuck up on me because I didn't have any of the usual symptoms. I feel like a normal person again. I wanted to share this info with other PMS sufferers. The formula that works for me is:

2 tbsp ACV
1/4 tsp baking soda
8 oz water
1 pack stevia

It's all natural, tastes good and won't mess with your blood sugar.

I read about Blackstrap Molasses and its ability to remedy female issues, and I was amazed. I have rather large fibroids, extreme bleeding and clots. My doctors have looked at a number of treatments from meds to surgery. I started taking 3 tablespoon of molasses a day about 2 months ago. I was schedule for surgery which had to be re-scheduled 3x due to other issues. But, it's my belief that all the re-scheduling was the universes way of protecting me from an un-needed surgery. I'm not bleeding as heavy, reduced blood clots and shorter cycle. I spoke to my natural pathetic doctor and she has no documented information about these types of benefits of molasses. Can anyone tell me why and how blackstrap molasses seems to reverse and reduce these female issues? This is my third month on the molasses, any suggestions as to how long to take the product? Thank you for your helpful information, this is a wonderful site.

Evening Primrose Oil has helped enormously with my PMS symptoms (irritability, moodiness). I was told to take one pill 3x/day with each meal, for ten days before my period was due to start. I usually only remember to take it in the morning, and it still works. A miracle.

This is the first time I've tried this for my monthly migraine, which I have had for several years. Nothing I tried seem to prevent this from happening, I could only medicate after it started. This is the first time I haven't had one after using the Molasses. I took a couple of spoonfuls in the morning and took it to work and used a couple of times during the day. I use an organic unsulphered brand. So glad I have found this, no more migraine this month. I really can't believe this, still waiting to see if one comes on.

I have heavy bleeding continously after I did a D&C to remove poly from my uterus and the doctor put me on Primolut N after several days the bleeding did not stop and I found this site stating about ACV and its benefits. I started having it with soda once a day am and had the tablet at pm after few days started bleeding again so stopped ACV and continued with the pill and my bleeding stopped. Can anybody advise me if it is okay to have ACV and primolut together or should I skip one?

I eat about 1 cup of raw Savoy Cabbage a day with a meal. It relieved my roller coaster episodes of diarrhea in one day...and constipation for the next week. Also it helped with PMS. I can think more clearly, I have a higher energy level, my mood is improved, and I feel really healthy.

Flax Seed Oil

I had very bad PMS cramps right before and the first couple of days of menstruation. i read somewhere that flax seed oil was good for the overall health of women and the reproductive system so i started taking it daily, a tablespoon or so with yogurt or kefir, and the cramps dramatically decreased the month later. i was always able to tell right about when i start because of the cramps, but the following month i didn't know at all and it just came without warning. i took it for a few a months religiously, but it's been about two months since taking it regularly. the cramping hasn't come back, but i will start taking it again for my overall health. highly recommend it for PMS!

Cranberry Powder Pills

I've had the worst time with cramps since I began my cycle at age 12. A couple years ago, I discovered, accidentally, that cranberry powder pills do everything drugs do and more, without side affects. The instant I feel a small bit of cramping, I take two cranberry pills. I wait twenty minutes, take two more. I wait another twenty minutes and take another two. That's it. No more pain, no bloating, no headache, no PMS.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Molasses
Posted by Elise (Sacramento, Ca, United States) on 01/24/2011

Hi everyone, I'd like to try ACV to reduce bad cramps, pms-related acne, and bowel bloating/diarrhea related to pms. However, I don't want to lose weight; I am naturally underweight as it is (about 115 lbs. At 5' 6.5". ) Why does Apple Cider Vinegar cause weight loss (according to what I've read in this thread) and is there any way to NOT lose weight while taking it? Also, does anyone know if Apple Cider Vinegar would interact negatively with the prescription meds Effexor and Lamictal? I take both daily. Thanks so much!

I use ACV - perhaps 3x or 4x a week. I am quite thin, but not as thin as you (115 lbs at 5'-3"). I have not noticed any change in weight whatsoever. I suspect that people who lose weight have some underlying metabolic problem that it is addressing. It does nothing in that regard for me (luckily).

Iodine

Hoping for relief of endometriosis and ovarian cysts, I've been supplementing with Lugol's Iodine the past 3.5 - 4 weeks and am FLOOOOOORED by the many positive results including increased energy. My last period arrived two days after I first started the iodine drops and it was it's usual self - a doozie, requiring high doses of Aleve around the clock for two days. But this second time around, I started 5 days early with ZERO pain and very minimal flow in comparison to the usual gushers. Last night I did take two Aleve, just in case, but in hindsight, I don't think they were necessary. As well, I've been taking approx 3/4 teaspoon of coconut oil every morning, though I've dabbled in coconut oil before & never experienced these results. Maybe it's a combo of the two potions?! Thrilled!
