TOMATO TEA FEEDBACK

[YEA] 12/14/2010: Cd from Ny writes: "DEFINITE YEA!! I was sick with a respiratory infection all of last week. Because I am currently unemployed & without health insurance I decided to seek alternative remedies online. I made the "tomato tea" (with generic vegetable juice 2x daily and the results were immediate. I was fooled into thinking that I was better and stopped after 2 days (plus I was worried about stinking of garlic) and then my symptoms kicked into high gear. So I started back up with the tea 2x daily plus 8oz of room temp H2O with 2 tbsp of ACV. Also chugged a couple of glasses of veggie juice with lots of cayenne sprinkled on top to stop sore throat INSTANTLY!! I followed thru with this regimen (and a wee bit of red wine ; ) for 4 days and lots of spicy foods and now feel almost 100%. I used to get bronchitis 4-5x per year when I was a smoker. When the bronchitis turned into pneumonia I quit cold turkey 4.5 years ago. I'd take antobiotics every time with no relief (and all kinds of side-effects "down there" to add insult to injury). This was the first time I've been sick since quitting!
I think what is important with tomato tea remedy is that you must take it as you would a prescribed antibiotic ie: 2x per day for 5 days. Otherwise symptoms may return and end up sicker for many more days. Thanks EC!!"
Replies01/24/2011: Yogitha from Singapore, Singapore replies: "Any pregnant women out there that have benefited from this? I am pregnant and advised against tomatoes because of a kidney stone I recently and painfully passed. Also concerned about the heartburn but at this point, I will try anything. 1 month suffering from incessant cough, sleeplness nights, fatigue which led to this awful sinus congestion and pain for past 6 days..."
01/31/2012: Normajean from Round Mountain, Nevada replies: "I realize this post is a year late and you have found an answer not mention had your baby, but for future reference and other pregnant women with this same issue, you can skip the tomato if need be and just add hot water. It is effect as well though maybe not as tasty. For the heart burn it may cause you, brew a peppermint tea before you drink the spicy tea, then you can have sip of peppermint inbetween sips of spicy. And lots cool water helps to. I find heartburn is not an issue for me tho."

[YEA] 10/15/2010: Lori from Birmingham, Al writes: "Tomato Tea - Sounds Yucky...Tastes Great-Best Cure Ever!
I have been using this "tea" since 2006 and I think it works better than anything over the counter or prescription for that matter when I am sick with cold, flu, or sinus infection, especially viral infections, when nothing works. I make it for my entire family when they are ill. 3x a day. My testimony as to its effectiveness is this:
I was hospitalized with severe lung and sinus infection, nothing they gave me would help be breath, and even steroids would not clear it up. They even resorted to giving me nasal spray and mucenex (which had no effect).... I asked repeatedly for the staff to bring me my "tea" ingredients, they finally agreed after much doubt, with my relentless requests. They brought me a Styrofoam cup of garlic powder from the cafeteria, packets of lemon juice, packets of Louisiana hot sauce, and a six pack of tomato juice in the little cans. (Fresh is always best, but this worked just fine). They all watched as I mixed it, heavy on the garlic, (2 tsp) 3 pkgs lemon juice and 3 pkgs hot sauce. I microwaved it for a minute, stank the whole floor up... So everyone noticed what I was doing..... I breath the vapors, then sip... And within 5 minutes of finishing the cup of cure... I was breathing freely for the first time in days, and the mucus started to break up. When start getting pressure again, I drink another. All the nurses and even other patients were so impressed with my rapid results that they got the recipe from me. I have sworn by this recipe for years now.... And prefer the benefits over ANY MEDS OTC or prescription. It is especially helpful when I have complete sinus blockage and extreme pressure, it works better than ANYTHING. Thank you so much for your website and insight into natural cures! Lori"
01/10/2012: John from Cowdenbeath, Fife, Scotland. replies: "Here is a more enjoyable way to fight nasal congestion and it works:- Make a strong cup of coffee and have with one chocolate ginger sweet. If a little extra help is needed particulary before going to bed use a minimum of Vicks Sinex Soother nasal spray. Your breathing will be clear all night. This type of spray is not supposed to be used longer than 7 days but I have found that only one spray of Beconase nasal spray, once in seven days, can avoid this rebound. Microwave all uncooked fruit & acid drinks."

[YEA] 10/07/2010: Sme from Philadelphia, Pa writes: "OMG! This tomato tea worked so well for me! Yesterday I was SO congested, I had chills, body aches, sore throat... EVERYTHING. I did NOT have high hopes for this tea... But did it, thinking what do I have to lose by trying it? I imagine it was gross but sense my cold was so severe I cldnt taste n e thing. I made the tea last night and this morning I feel GREAT! Not 100% better but def better then yesterday! .... HOWEVER I DID take some other things WITH the tea... I did the following:
1. Gargled w/ sea salt water for about 2 minutes
2. Took apple cider vinger (I just took a shot of it and chased it w/ water... I can't mix it... It's too gross for me! )
3. Took vitamin c with msm.
4. I DID also take some over the counter drugs! BUT they have not worked for me the previous nights so I don't think this is what did it... THIS is the first night I slept ALL night! I cldn't believe it! (I've been sick for about 3 days now)....
TRY THE TEA! IT'S WORTH IT! Oh and BTW the results were not immediate... I stayed up for about an hour AFTER I took the tea and I started feeling worse! I thought the tea didnt work until I woke up this morning! It's REALLY a miracle! IDK what I'd do w/o this website! Thanks! "
Replies[NAY] 01/11/2012: Spike from Miami, Fla replies: "You guys should really put some of the " nea" responses up there where people see them instead of bury them way at the back. Some people just might have a horrible reaction like I did. This had a horrible affect on me.
I'm a very healthy 52 year old. I made this concoction and seriously was up all night, vomitting and had diarrhea all night. I even blacked out from vomitting at one point. I couldn`t go to work the next day. I was bed ridden.
I followed the instructions exactly. It was the first cold I've had in 2 years but, it was in my sinuses and my ears had been stuffed up for a week.
We eat a lot of garlic. I have no problem with cayenne pepper in general but this just tore my stomach up.
Please let people hear the flip side- a weaker person would have been hospitalized."
01/11/2012: Cecile from Cape Town, South Africa replies: "Spike, so sorry to hear about your ordeal with the tomato tea!Your reaction to the tomato tea could very well be linked to a Pantothenic acid (vitB5)deficiency you could also react similarly to other foods in the 'citrus allergy group' eg oranges, lemons, grapefruit, tangerines, pineapple, cantaloupe and tomatoes that can cause 'metabolic antagonism' or what is commonly called an allergy so be careful. A great source of Pantothenic acid is Royal jelly. Pantothenic acid is present in many of the multi B supplements in the form of Calcium Pantothenate, which is great- because the mineral antidote for this 'citrus' allergy is calcium, the amino acid used is Serine.
It is better to take a multiB than singling out a single B, as it can lead to deficiency in other B vitamins. These 'allergies' disappear once adequate co-factors added. It is important that one see the bigger picture, supplement when warning signs appear, before more serious problems raise their head.
It is also important to note that a sodium/potassium depletion can cause people to become 'allergic' to everything. Supplementing with Himalayan salt or other good mineral salt will keep a myriad of illnesses at bay, a good read is 'Salt your way to health' by David Brownstein MD."
01/11/2012: Jen from Bozeman, Mt, Us replies: "It seems very unlikely that you wouldn't have seen a problem sooner if you have an allergy or high acid stomach. I think you had some bad tomatoe juice, or garlic, or something. If you haven't had any reactions to tomatoes, garlic, or cayenne sooner then, I have to assume you had some bad food. It's a very simple and common recipe. It's also possible you just had the stomach flu along with the cold. I know I've had my share of one food or another getting blamed for my stomach bugs. I will never be able to eat bacon again after my stomach flu hit a few minutes after eating it."
01/11/2012: Carly from Seattle, Wa - Usa replies: "Hi. Sorry you had a bad reaction to the tomato tea. First things first, there was misinformation sent in earlier.Tomato is a member of the "nightshade" family.... It is not a citrus fruit. It is in the potato and pepper family of plants.
If the tomato did give you the reaction (and it was not just really bad timing and you had the flu or some other food poisoning type of thing).... then I would be very careful / watchful for symptoms the next time you eat peppers or potatoes.
Do a web search on nightshade plants for more info.... and best of luck to you.
Carly :)"
01/12/2012: Cecile from Cape Town, South Africa replies: "Carly, the post I sent in is NOT misinformation. I have studied the work of Dr Donald Lepore who is a nutritional pioneer with many excellent credentials...ND, DN AND NMD. HE HAS LINKED THE TOMATO IN THE CITRUS ALLERGY CATEGORY with many studies, patient experiences and successes in his clinic to back it up. Sure, it is in the nightshade family, I am not disputing that...it is important for many people to be aware of the work done in field of nutritional medicine and remedies that are usually based on mineral, amino acid and vitamin deficiencies that can be easily corrected. Many of the dis-ase around is a simple form of malnutrition that is easy to remedy. I have had personal experience with tomato tearing my stomach up, I thought I was dying.... In the SAME way as lemon juice did when I tried to do a liver cleanse. We all desire to feel healthy, there are pitfalls on the road, what works for one might cause serious distress in another. We don't investigate the same paths or read the same books or HAVE THE SAME EXPERIENCES. That is why a forum like Earth Clinic is so incredibly valuable. Thanks to the many contributors on Earth Clinic I have been able to put missing pieces in the puzzle of many of my ill health issues and am well on the way to being healthy.... I SALUTE YOU ALL!"

09/29/2010: Jonathan from Monroe City, Mo writes: "Below the updated recipe that Jean gives (tomato tea) for a cold there is info regarding capricin which it alleges is in peppers. That is incorrect. Capricin is another name for capryllic acid. What peppers have (active ingredient) is capsaicin, something totally different. Here is a link that explains it: http://www.cfspages.com/yeast.html
And a quote from the above link:
Capryllic Acid - AKA Capricin. It is a bullet point down the page a bit in the listed article."

[YEA] 09/23/2010: Rachel from Hartford, Connecticut, Usa writes: "I was ready to write a NAY for this remedy, but I'm happy to report that it worked. Yesterday evening I had a head cold so severe I thought my right eyeball was going to pop out of my head from the sinus pressure. I made up the tea per the recipe, substituting organic tomato juice for the V8 (which I think is gross) and bottled lemon juice for fresh (because I didn't have lemons). I also added a few dashes of cayenne. I didn't have high hopes for the flavor, since I don't love tomato soup, but it was quite tasty. I ate it like a soup and used the spoon the suck the brew to the back of my throat, which was sore. After drinking most of the tea, my sinuses alleviated somewhat, but were still very clogged. I went to bed miserable. When I woke up at 4 AM to use the bathroom, I was able to blow pretty much everything out of my nose, but I now had a raging sore throat. I managed to go back to sleep, and when I woke up at 8 AM my sore throat was gone. There's some residual mucous in my system, but my coughs are very productive and it's draining pretty easily now. This remedy's going to be a keeper, I think."

Then I turned to google and found this recipe and I have being feeling better since! In the begining I was having the tea every day, then I easd off when it gets better. When my sinuses get swollen I start having the tea again. I will never forget this recipe ever, its so easy to remeber! I pass it onto everyone who gets sick or whos in my boat, coz I know how annoying it is. Thank you soo much, I am forever greatful and will know what to to the next time I get sick overseas... It will not be antibiotics!"

By Wednesday I couldn't even use the netipot my nose was so clogged and my face hurt really bad. I came to Earth Clinic for a remedy and thought I would try the Tomato Tea. I prepared the tea as instructed using 5 cloves of crushed garlic and cayenne pepper (as much as I could stand) and drank two cups of the tea hot. I was hoping for some immediate relief but instead went to bed feeling miserable ready to post a NAY report the following day. When I woke up the next day I was so excited; my sinus congestion was gone! A big YAY for the Tomato Tea! "

I just couldn't breathe, it was worse lying down, and when I swallowed it felt like my throat might not again open... terrifying! The tomato tea worked within one cup (doctored with habanero as well as tabasco sauce and extra garlic). Amazing! Thank you. I might actually get some sleep tonight."

I've never had sinus pain like this in my life - facial sinus pain, eye, ear, head; all ached for 8 days straight with NO relief but two hours when I popped ibprophen, which I didn't like doing. I drank hot water w/ACV, oil of oregano(1 dropper full), liquid garlic (9 drops) last night before bed. NO pain! THEN, I did the Tomato Tea all day today and tonight. STILL, NO PAIN! It's my miracle for the day and I'm grateful. I'm sharing it with everyone. Thank YOU!"

[YEA] 03/06/2010: Sarahbeardupa from Columbia, Missouri, Usa writes: "AMAZING. First of all, earth clinic as saved me so many trips to the doctor, and so much money. I try to avoid pharmaceuticals as much as possible. I have been battling this cold for a week, and finally broke down and bought some OTC decongestant. It did not help at all, just made me lethargic. I didn't have any tomato juice on hand, but i couldn't smell or taste anything anyway, so i put 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper and 1 tablespoon granulated garlic in water with about a tablespoon of lemon juice and popped it in the microwave for two minutes. After about fifteen minutes of sipping/inhaling the tea i could breath again! Fortunately/unfortunately my sense of taste started to return, so i'm going to have to go get some juice to continue. Thank you sooo much for this remedy! I don't know what i would do without this site."
Replies[YEA] 04/02/2010: Condie from Topeka, Ks replies: "YeaIt works immediately and, with a bit of persistance, for the long haul. I have terrible painful problems with ear pressure and hate the thought of a drive to the mountains or flying. If I have had even the slightest congestion before such a trip, I start weeks ahead with the Tomato Tea until every trace of the congestion is completely gone.
To the basic recipe, I add 1/2 tsp. horseradish. If planning to be sociable, I eliminate the garlic. I also use habanero sauce with great effectiveness. :-)"

Wow, incredible results in a manner of minutes. I cannot believe how well this works. I have had 6 weeks of allergies and sinus medications and an addiction to Afrin and rebound effect. Cut the afrin today and had 100% blockage on right side. Did the tea and was 90% clear before I was half done with tea. I am completely blown away at results, hope it lasts. How often do you need to drink tea?"

[YEA] 02/01/2010: Janna from London, Uk writes: "I have been sick with cold for 7 days now. By the 5th day it got much worse - with low grade fever and chills as a result of sinus infection. I found this website quite late in my malaise, when I was very congested, with strong headaches and pressure around my eyes and temples. So I decided to give a try to the Tomato tea. I used fresh chilly peppers (1), fresh garlic (2 cloves), as well as juice of 1/2 lemon for it. After the first cup the help wasn't immediate. But there were moments of my badly congested nostril to allow some air in and out. It was at 7 pm. But I was still of course worried about how I would sleep that night with no real help from the one cup of tea. So just before going to bed at 10.30 I made myself another cup. This time real hot (much more chillies, and of hotter temperature). I barely could swallow this so it was hot. I went to bed being as congested as before. But to my surprise the tea started acting while I was already in bed. Suddenly I could breath freely. That was so incredible. And I fell asleep happy and relieved and was able to breath throughout the night. By the early morning, however, the effect wore out and I again was clogged. But I nevertheless had a good 6 hours of sleep."

Replies02/25/2010: J from R replies: "how do you treat your graves disease? Is the sinus congestion from graves disease or cold or other. Just curious, im always looking for a cure for graves disease. Thanks J."
02/27/2010: Faithinhealing from Forest Park, Ohio, Usa replies: "Hello, I think the sinus problems is a result of inflammation. From what I've read recently, the inflammation causes graves disease in the first place. I'm hyperthyroid and recently was having problems with a sore throat and being hoarse, I'm sure it had something to do with my recent detox and perhaps my body was trying to heal. Anyway, I was trying to get more good bacteria into my body and purchased some Kombucha, instantly, my thyroid started to drain and the symptoms subsided. I would suggest trying to add more fermented foods to your diet, Kombucha is a great one, but so is organic kefir and apple cider vinegar, organic! In my search for information recently, they stressed the B vitamins as well, I use the liquid vitamins so find one that has everything in it. I love these because we can add it to juice or smoothies."
03/30/2010: Leslie from Sammamish, Wa replies: "HI - Would it be possible for you to tell me what kind of detox you did and where you got your liquid B vitamins?"
04/21/2010: Faithinhealing from Forest Park, Ohio replies: "The detox program that I am doing is personal but involves sea vegetables and fermented foods that have really helped my thyroid and energy, etc. The liquid vitamin is Nature's Way Alive Energy Vitamins and it has all the B's! A similiar program is the one that Donna Gates recommends in The Body Ecology Diet."

[YEA] 12/26/2009: Steve from Charlotte, Nc writes: "Jeannie,
I felt compelled to write to you and thank you for posting your wonderful tomato tea recipe.
I am an American vacationing in my wife's hometown of Punta del Este, Uruguay. For whatever reason I somehow started to get very congested over a period of three days to the point that my chest started to tighten up, my head clogged up and my ears backed up and shut down completely. I had tremendous pain in my ears as well as my head. Knowing that I would be travelling on an airplane in a few days was somewhat upsetting realizing that the plane would pressurize and depressurize several times during the flight and that my ears would not be able to compensate for the differences in air pressure. Being in this small South American country doesn't lend itself to modern American medicine so I started searching the Internet to find some remedies and came across your tomato tea.
Amazing is all I can say. Last night I made a batch and drank two cups one after another. Almost immediately my head started to drain and my right ear started to clear. I went to bed last night, slept great and when I awoke my head was 90 percent clear and my ears are draining. I have never been much into natural homeopathic remedies but your recipe has made me a total believer. The change in my condition is nothing short of a miracle and will allow me to fly back to the states in comfort.
Thank you so much for sharing this with the rest of us."

The Tomato Tea truly works!! Almost instantly! It is very yummy too. I followed the recipe almost exactly, I just added extra hot sauce, lime juice, and extra garlic (about a 1tsp and 1/2tsp). I can breathe again!"

[YEA] 11/16/2009: Aginto from Toronto, On writes: "AAAAAAMAZING!
My 2 year old caught a cold. Last night was rough, as he didn't sleep through the night - which means no one else did either. Today I found your Tomato Tea Recipe. I used Organic Jarred Tomatoe Puree (I read a list of the 7 foods you should never eat - and one of them was canned tomatoes as the acid in the tomatoes leeches the BPA out of the can's lining), 4 cloves of Smashed Organic Garlic, the juice of one organic lemon, and about 1/4 tspn of Organic Cayenne (IDK if it was African or not).
I gave him maybe 3 spoons of it and he immediately started hacking up phlegm. His nose started running like crazy, I'm assuming because his sinuses were draining. I had some too and right away felt my sinuses dry up and felt as though I could breathe more clearly.
The second time I gave it to him, he wasn't happy. He didn't want it - he was crying. But I made him have it, and he hacked up MORE phlegm. Poor baby... I know it's making him better though.
I also rubbed a combo of olive oil, peppermint essential oil and Eucalyptus essential oil on his feet and chest. I have a humidifier going in his room with Eucalyptus oil in the dispenser. I'm adding a little bit of Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar to his sippy cup of water with a bit of Organic Juice to mask the taste...
He's not eating much, but I'm loading him up on Organic Fruits and veggies. I'm making Chicken Soup from scratch using only Organic ingredients for dinner (what a mission).
He seems to be better today than he was last night, but the true measure will be how well he sleeps tonight.
Thank you all for your insight and input. I will report back tomorrow!"

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 11/11/2009: Em from Santa Ana, Ca writes: "My ailment: bad sinus cold that was turning into bronchitis with heavy chest congestion. I followed the Tomato Tea recipe exactly as stated with the following additions: I doubled the recipe, added an extra 2 cloves of garlic (I also smashed the garlic with a knife to release the allicin before adding to pot), added salt, and heated on the stove for about 20 mins on low. I drank more than 6 cups of the tea over a period of 2-3 days.
What I noticed:
After the 1st cup: I felt worse! Sinuses, which weren't plugged up before, got plugged up. My congestion seemed to increase slightly, etc.
The next morning: I felt slightly better and realized I slept all night which I hadn't before.
After the next few cups: Sinus drainage, then sinuses plugged, on and off. With each cup, I now noticed the chest congestion easing.
Results: Symptoms subsided within 4 days."

I can't even remember how I came up with the recipe, it was so long ago, but making a hot bloody mary is a good possibility. :) Most people wouldn't have that handy, and also it may have coloring, preservatives, in it. But you're right... I should have just added that to the list. :) I'd add garlic, and more lemon juice and hot sauce though."

I used a bit different recipe: 1 can tomato soup, juice from 1 lime, 3 cloves crushed garlic, a couple sprinkles of cayenne, and some hot sauce...I also went ahead and added a half tsp of turmeric, figured it might help. Heat this in a saucepan and poured into a large coffee cup. Ahh relief!!"

09/13/2009: Laura from Orlando, Fl writes: "Tomato Tea for nasal congestion
I'm sorry to say the tomato tea has not worked for me. I caught my son's head cold and came straight to EC for a remedy as usual. I had been drinking ACV, which normally works, but this time it wasn't helping much. I was excited to try this recipe - I love garlic and hot sauce! Unfortunately, the tea didn't do anything for my stuffed up nose...not even clear one side. I drank it straight for two days to no avail. I will say that I love the taste of the tea. However, my husband wouldn't come near me for a few days...he said he could smell me from the other side of the room! Lol! Guess I put too much garlic in. Here's the recipe I used: 2 cups V8, 2 tbsp lemon juice, at least 6 dashes of hot sauce (Tabasco), and at least 4 cloves of garlic, heated in a sauce pan. I drank it hot, breathed in the vapors, etc.
I really wish I could say this one worked for me. I was really optimistic about it due to all the positive feedback. The only thing that has helped is hot showers and eucalyptus/peppermint/olive oils mixed and applied to the bottoms of my feet at night (covered with white cotton socks). I still have a stuffy nose, and now it seems to be draining into my throat. I can feel my glands are starting to swell, causing my throat to hurt a bit, and my ears are clogged up as well. But good luck to everyone else who tries it out there! Hope it works better for you than it did for me!"
Replies[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 09/19/2009: Laura from Orlando, Fl replies: "Just wanted to update my original response to the tomato tea remedy. Although I didn't get the immediate results that others had with this remedy, I will say that I was only "sick" for less than a week (about four days), which is much shorter than the normal 7-10 days. I'm not sure what to attribute this to, though, because I used a lot of different things to try to kick this cold. I drank the tomato tea for the first two days. I also applied eucalyptus/peppermint/olive oils mixed to the bottoms of my feet at night (covered with white cotton socks). I also took Juice Plus every hour (if EC won't print the brand name, it's just vitamins made from fruits and vegetables). I drank water like a fish, and I gargled hydrogen peroxide. I probably did other stuff, too that just seems normal for me, like drinking ACV, etc. So, maybe it was the combination of it all, or maybe it was the tea, but either way, I'll probably drink the tea next time I feel a cold coming on. I do believe garlic has antiviral properties, and helps out a lot. So the tea wasn't a total "nay." It just didn't give me the amazing immediate relief that I was so desperately looking forward to. Thanks for the recipe! I've added it to my remedy collection :)"
EC: Rating has been revised, thanks for the update!

I had just finished 3 rounds of anti-biotics, was taking mucilex, psuedupredrine, and saline solutions, but I couldn't get my sinuses to drain very well. I was experiencing major head pressure. I ran across the tomato tea, was desperate, and figured that I didn't have anything to lose. Well, I went to the store, got the items needed made it, and drank it. The first cup, gave me significant pressure release. So, over the next week, I continued to drink this at least once per day, usually when I felt the pressure returning. After being on it for 1 week, I am happy to say that my sinuses are clear and have been clear for about 3 weeks now. I waited to leave feedback, because I wanted to see if it really worked, and I can now say that it does! Thanks for the natural remedies!"

[YEA] 07/27/2009: Smos22 from New Haven, CT writes: "One morning I awoke with the symptoms of an allergy attack: runny nose, teary eyes, cough, fatigue, etc. I made the tomato tea remedy using one can of ____ [tomato] juice, 3 tsps chopped garlic, 2 Tbls lemon juice and 1 Tlbs honey and then I microwaved it for one minute. After 2-3 sips, I felt MUCH better. I'm amazed at how quickly it worked. Thank you so much for this site.
