REMEDIES NEEDED

10/14/2009: Yoon from Coram, Ny, Usa writes: "I dropped off one of my dogs at the vet this morning because of something I thought was some superficial wound on one of his paws. The vet just called and informed me that all four of his paws have the wounds that look like they were scraped on rough surfaces and since there hasn't been an opportunity for my dog to have done that, the vet highly suspects he has lupus. Does anybody know of any remedies for lupus in dogs?

Thanks.
-Yoon"

10/16/2009: Kim from Fullerton, Ca replies: "After trying and discarding the first solution which was prednisone, in combination with an expensive topical ointment to address the scaly patch on his nose, and the second less extreme approach which was twice daily doses of niacinamide, vitamin e gel caps in combination with doxycylline and that expensive ointment, we found that the best solution seems to be MSM and vitamin E caps added to his food (my 12 year old german shepherd mix eats once in the am and again in the pm). If we see any sign of scaling or flaking on the affected nostril we break open a vitamin E gel cap and squeeze the contents onto the spot. This has worked like a charm, with absolutely no recurrence of the lupus and no negative side effects. Good luck."

11/18/2009: Yvonne from Christchurch, New Zealand replies: "I would just like to know what the 'MSM' in 10/16/2009 Kim from Fullerton's reply to a query from someone about lupus in dogs refers to. Can you help. Thanks Yvonne."

EC: MSM is the acronym for Methyl Sulfonyl Methane. Read more about it here: http://www.earthclinic.com/Supplements/MSM.html
